Edit: After receiving the developers response, I now understand that they don’t actually publish any of the news stories, they just gather them from the (fake) news sources, so I’ve updated my review. And while I now have nothing against this app, the sheer number of liberal news outlets and articles, just goes to show that we do have a major problem with biased lefty news sources in the US, trying to push their agenda and propaganda. The left runs almost all media, news, and tech, in a very obvious effort to control the flow of (dis)information in their favor, towards their narrative. Then they try to beat the single news outlet that actually reports news that is closer to the truth, down, and into submission. It’s actually quite sickening, but is sadly working, considering all the left wing sheeple who, instead of thinking for themselves for once, have turned their back on the truth, and aid the left wing media in bullying the single right wing news source, and anyone who happens to also be right wing. We seriously need to do something about this. And the “woke” seriously needs to wake up. Fun app. Sometimes unique stories.Overall this app has improved tenfold since their debut. From the daily updates and the more often than not glitching, they’ve really come a long way (and I’m actually editing a previously posted poor review, unbeknownst until I just was reminded when I saw the existing one when I went to leave a review). It would be nice to have a little more control over what posts your entire friend feed receives and which one’s it doesn’t- for example, if someone has 50 followers, they may just want a casual, less thought out post that they don’t necessarily want everyone of their followers to get a text notification for should they have text notifications for NewsBreak app enabled, like I presume many like myself, do). It would be nice to be able to curtail which posts they receive in their feed, so that, I can be more selective with what gets sent out to everyone, so like followers don’t read the first 7 posts your made and 5 of them are like random one off observations not worth the time it takes to click them, and stop reading your posts. I can’t really find a better app so...So this app is pretty good for the most part. I've been using it for a while now and have a few gripes however. The application itself has a pretty user friendly interface but there's definitely room for improvement. I think a aesthetically it could use some updating. I really enjoy the fact that it provides news from varying resources but offers a platform in which you can create a dialogue. Another issue I have though is that it often doesn't provide breaking news at fast enough speeds per my preferences, or at least the notifications don't alert me of any of it until at least three hours after the app has it posted...not having the notification alert me of local news coverage in a timely manner sets me up for failure a lot because, for example, I live in an area very close to an accident prone part of the freeway and am alerted on this app of accidents in this area...when I don't receive the notifications of these situations at the correct time and I leave to run an errand I end up getting backed up and arrive late to my destination. I know there's other apps I can rely on for traffic information but I'm the kind of person who would rather rely on one app to do what I need it to rather than a series of them that essentially report on the same things. Now, for news that's local this app does offer a lot regardless of the timeliness of their notifications and I'm probably going to continue to use it, but yes there is room for improvement for sure. NewsBreak app is non-compliant with its own community guidelinesThis app show should receive ZERO stars because it does not adhere to its own community guidelines and bogus features within app are non-functional. Under “Content Preferences AI-summarized Content Control” there are three options of supposed choice: Allow (default); Limit; and Disable. I checked “disable” yet it remained on “Allow”. Within less than five minutes a random video of an obese, black woman is seen jumping into the trunk of her vehicle as a tiger sprints towards her in the U.S.A. Research on reputable news platforms noted that this is AI generated and not based upon facts. NewsBreaks guidelines under “False, Misleading or Fraudulent Content” & “Hateful Behavior” says in part: “ we do not allow creators to publish altered media intended to confuse, harm, and mislead.” Why is this fake news app targeting black women & the obese promoting hateful, dehumanizing stereotypes that are reminiscent of the Jim Crow Era? I want to love itIt's a useful app, I'm not saying it isn't. However, there are some really frustrating flaws. 1.Any time you comment a photo, the quality is dropped drastically. This means that for many photos, if there's text in them, it'll be pointless once it's smaller than a certain size. 2.It only allows you to attach one photo per comment. This is combined with the first issue makes it really frustrating when you're trying to show someone information. 3.You can't comment links. 4.If you swear in a comment, other people will not be able to see the comment. This in itself is flawed as it also blocks other words that aren't even swear words, and groups them together. 5.The notifications tab is unable to be sorted, which is frustrating as it has a limit to how many notifications are able to be on the tab at once. This leads to many being unseen. 6.Due to issue 5, you may rely on going through your own reactions to go check and see if people replied to them manually. This is an issue if you comment the same thing more than once on one post, as only one will show in the reactions tab. 7.Log in issues. Questionable if this is “content” or just someone asking Ai to summarize a real article.I am leaning on this app just summarizes actual articles by running them through Ai and posting the literal ChatGPT response. Not exactly sure when that happened but it did. For a minute this app was getting kind of cool. I noticed I could have a following and that I had a lot more options in the app. Not sure what a mini drama is but they have tons in this app if you like that. I do not like that I have limited control over privacy and targeted ads. I shut the option off but trust me when I say they are targeting me. Covering the whole page. Also, I asked for no ai content and that is all there is. Rarely does this app have any links to real articles like Apple News. It looks like people are trying to monetize with ai summaries. Also, just scrolling will redirect you to some weird content or the App Store. This is consistent and happens all the time. Fake NewsI absolutely love this app because it’s proof that there actually is such thing as fake news. It’s almost as fake as…..well you know. Everything on tv and social media but there’s actually no such thing as fake which is why there’s no such thing as “artificial” intelligence it has been renamed “all” so A.I. = all intelligence and is created entirely by you. MY OPINIONHello I will take a minute to share my opinion of NewsBreak. One of the primary things I enjoy about this site is that they allow you to write you opinions on articles and stories. Most of the other news sites could care less about their readers opinion which is obvious if they don’t allow comments. Other news sites will allow you to comment if you subscribe to their rag. I personally do not like to be coerced into paying for subscriptions to sites that are not good to begin with. There are a few sites that post articles with a significant amount of misspelled words and grammar errors. You start to wonder who are these people writing the articles, do they not have spell check or they just don’t care about what they write. It makes me think that what ever they are trying to write about isn’t reliable. Good for a fast read.I started out loving this app. It was great for my local news. It gave stories sometimes first, sometimes those I couldn’t get elsewhere. I started using this app in February. By April it started having so many bugs it was barely useable. If you actually get linked to a story shown, and then want to follow on to another shown below, it won’t follow the link. So then you think ok, I’ll open it in Safari, but then you get the first story and can’t find the one you wanted to read on the homepage of that news outlet to which have been directed. It is terribly frustrating. This app has the potential to be one of the best news apps for local news and has done a great job of keeping readers up to date on the corona virus and its ramifications in my area. But it is not quite at being fully integrated. I end up loving and hating it at the same time. I admit to being a news junkie so I always want to read MORE. The Best App Right NowEverything about this app has been what I should have expected expect only one tiny thing. I’ve been using this application lately because of Coronavirus news, and to be honest, I don’t complain, but as I just noted earlier, if you guys can just add this one feature, it will be helpful for not only me, but maybe for many others out there. I think you should add a search field especially for countries and/or cities, so people can search for specific locations/country to get the news they want to know first. Many among us are separated from our families. Therefore, for those who are concerned, their first intentions when they open your application, they intend to look for news about the countries where they came from for their loved ones if covid-19 has worsened or not. DecentI do like getting notifications throughout the day and that I can control how many notifications I get and when. I wish the comment sections weren’t so toxic, but free speech *is* good to have. It’d just be nice to see more respectful discord and less trolling happening, but alas. I thought there was a search function, but I can’t find it for the life of me. It’d also be nice to search for stories you are looking for especially when you open the app & it displays a story just to disappear a second later. That’s frustrating. It would be nice to see less depressing stories. I like keeping up with world, national, local and events, but don’t necessarily want to be inundated with depressing information all day long. I also like that it attempts to stay non-partisan. I prefer my news to be non-partisan so I can make my own decision, but also like seeing opinions from the left and right to better understand people’s positions. Practical, stupid, sadIt works as intended, I get my local obscure news and national headlines. Only ever seem to get notifications for the worst most heinous stories, I don’t care for that. If I want to read that stuff I’ll see it when I open the app. Happy notifications would be nice here and there. People in the comments are overwhelmingly stupid regardless of political affiliation. I know it’s not the apps fault but just so you know it’s actually crazy how dumb everyone in the comments are, it’s legit at least 90% of the people. I like this app but...I like the news, I like being able to track the virus cases in my city and I like being able to track the protests. Of course there are some repetitive articles, but this app doesn’t report the news it compiles it in an easy place for us all to see. What I really hate about this app is the community, doesn’t matter what article you go to you’ll find terrible terrible bigots in the comment section. These comments really need to be moderated, and a lot of those people really should be put on a watch list. They think because they’re just sitting behind a phone screen they can say what they want, but that’s not how it is. Everyone needs to learn that the comments they leave effect people, it’s not what you meant to say it’s how other people perceive what you say that matters. It’s great but….It’s a good app, that I unfortunately had to delete because every breaking news moment sent to my phone or watch was about one particular ex president. Every. Single. Notification. Click bait, bad editing, old news & repetitiveI found this app just as soon as I moved to Colorado in August 2019 (two years ago) and I thought it was more of a local feature! Then, we (my mom got the app, too) started noticing how it would post articles of a story that broke 3,4 even 5 days before. Such a nuisance, I don’t want days old stories jamming up my feed taking the place of current events and breaking news! 🤷🏽‍♀️ Then, as I would read these articles, I would notice there was such bad editing done to them. Like, there was no submission to an editor - NewsBreak takes on any contract from someone who sends them a picture of their laptop open to a blank page in documents as verification and credentials they’re a writer. The writing in some posts is hideous. 🤷🏽‍♀️ Then, once you see one story on NewsBreak you will see it one hundred times more, guaranteed! Yes, they will say they have over 10,000 plus media to filter thru but that’s what their job is. To whittle it down. News for the Woke and VacuousThis app will alert you to breaking local news sometimes, which is useful. Precisely because that news is breaking, this feed cannot, of course, be fairly faulted for its lack of detailed coverage in those situations. What I find downright annoying, though, is the so-called "progressive" spin of so much of the news coverage, much along the same nauseating lines as Yahoo! News and MSNBC. A secondary drawback is its over-emphasis, IMHO, on some of the basest elements of mass culture. If you prefer your daily dose of saccharine blue pill mental analgesic, then perhaps this is the echo chamber for you. You'll also be among the first to learn when soap opera stars marry or when sports stars re-sign with their teams. Great idea but needs improvementI’ve only recently downloaded this app and totally enjoyed being able to interact with other readers on different articles. Unfortunately it is too difficult if not impossible to return to a specific article and comment when someone replies to something you post on an article. I will probably end up deleting this app because it’s too much to deal with some of the harassing responses to my comments and not be able to go back to it and defend myself. I have tried sending the articles to myself vis messenger so I can keep track of them but the articles are not received even though it says the share was successful. Uncertain About The App….I saw multiple advertisements about Newsbreak and decided to finally download it. I looked at the reviews and saw most of them was negative, and I was DISGUSTED and disappointed of what people saw in the app, wether it was racist, and “all -ist” comments on reports. I immediately downloaded the app to check and didn’t find any, but I wanted to try the crime map. I looked through it and saw absolutely 0 crime in all 0-14 days and Low to Extreme crime. I even looked on a few states and found nothing. I wasn’t sure because there should’ve been crime since I knew a lot of states commonly have. And I read that the crime is updated every once in a while. I already signed in, before you ask, but I wouldn’t want to download this if I wanted to. What I’m trying to say is that it needs a ton of improvement to the racist comments, (Which I know you don’t support.) and the updates of maps. Local NewsI love reading local news when I am not at work. Bigger papers do not cover important news in my community and I need to be informed to feel comfortable living in Islip. I grew up in Islip at the time when the only local news was the Islip Bulletin which we had a subscription for at home. With the internet and great reporting, your “newspaper” has improved my quality of life because I feel less isolated from my community. This is very important during the COVID outbreak and for the aging population of Long Island who may not get out of the house as often as they did when younger. Not a Real News SourceI downloaded this app because news stories from local sources often linked to articles here, usually articles by the local newspaper where they are not available to read online unless you have an subscription. At first I thought it was a pretty good source for a variety of news articles but have quickly seen that the entire app is like one big radio morning show with odd pieces of trivia and other off-beat news stories. Many of the articles come off as legit, but when you look closely, it’s clear that it’s all made up. Another issue is the rapid fire ads that are blasted in your face. One article I tried to read opened with some radio station’s banner across the top of page, a video ad adjacent to the banner and another on the lower part of the page. While trying to read the headline to see if I clicked on the right article, a screen filling ad for the same radio station that already had taken up almost half the page with banner and video ads shockingly popped up. I tried to close the pop up ad but it opened another full screen ad first so I had to close it then the other ad. Frankly, it’s just a constant visual assault that is frustrating. So if you like mostly fake (unverified) news, radio station morning show approach, and constant sensory assault from an app, this is the app for you..Arl410Version: 23.30.0

What you’re really gettingA feed of article headlines and pictures ranging from what Kim kardashian wore to bed (and you’re not gonna believe the reaction) to more serious presidential news. All taken from a diverse spectrum of prestigious news organizations to rinky-dink news outlets I am unfamiliar with that with the click of a story, you are instantly redirected to their news page. The reason for my rating, is that I wanted a more selective group of stories by which I mean I have no interest in knowing “Pregnant Katy Perry looks stunning in no-makeup selfie amid quarantine” or any “no cover” topics in my mind and have no way of weeding out of my feed. Nor do I enjoy when I (admittedly) don’t check first and am redirected from the app to the website of a news source most would find unsuitable for a work setting . Furthermore on the rare occasion I find a story I wish to look into, I click the link, the page nearly loads, crashes, automatically begins reloading, crashes a second time, when I am then left with a dimly lit, gray, blank page, and yet again no interesting story. Meh propaganda cannonSo yea it’s “news” but it’s like you go on facebooks shorts and take out all the stuff but the news. Then 6 articles about the same thing all spun left/right/rainbow/straight etc all obviously slanted one way or the other but ya get all the slants pretty much and you can try to block ones you know ya don’t need to see but the block doesn’t work. Comes back a day later like they don’t think ya will notice. So instead of reading news and chuckling at the ai news slop; my unblocked block gets me here. I’m so disappointedAt first, I liked your news app a lot I really did, but then with this whole political circus going on I was hoping that news app would actually be somebody that was biased and gave both sides of the news fairly so that people could make more informed decisions, but I’m seeing from you is the one sided, and clearly you are on the left side. Misinformation, Racism, Bigotry, etc.There’s constant fighting in every comment section from the fine folks who use this app, and many, many inflammatory headlines meant to upset people on both sides of the spectrum. This app is okay for providing information and daily breaking news, however, comments should not be allowed on this app. There are racist, xenophobic, transphobic, homophobic, misogynistic bigots who spew hate daily on this app. Individuals must be monitored due to the vial hate comments. I have seen horrific individuals call black individuals the N word. People of color are seen as a dog or worse. Has potential, but hostile comment sections are causing me to delete the app.This app has potential. I like being able to quickly get news without going to Twitter or somewhere else. It’s a quick click. For the most part articles sent to notifications have been relevant (although the frequent click bait stimulus articles have been annoying). However, the comment sections are horrible. For some reason racist, anti-mask Trump supporters have flooded this app. They leave awful, aggressive comments and harass anyone who has a differing opinion. I have attempted to have civil conversations in the comment sections (and have seen others attempt to do the same) and we have only been met with aggressive hostility. Preys on people’s fearsThe app itself isn’t bad, but the advertising is faked to exploit people who are vulnerable. There was an ad for this app I saw where an elderly woman claimed there was an active shooter on the loose, while hiding under the blankets. Malware ads started showing recently.This is a decent news app, and the ads have always kinda been annoying, but have typically been somewhat manageable. However, recently, I have started seeing ads that are connected to malware. I keep getting the type of ads that say “Your iPhone has been hacked!” Or “your iPhone’s connection has been hacked by hackers!” This would likely be terrifying to older people, or non-tech-savvy people. Once a good siteI started using app to see the POVs of people getting and responding to news outside of what I regularly read and to get local news. I also appreciate being able to have more privacy by using Apple to log in. Some believe this is a tracking measure, but I see it as a identity protection layer. Since so many comments are negative, nasty, and threatening, I feel it’s very important to be able to protect my identity. Problems: no comment moderation or reporting function. Comments have become racist, intolerant screeds, and mostly dangerous misinformation. Calm responses illicit name calling and nastiness; some are threatening. Hate speech cesspool.This app has a lot of concerns and I will start with the most concerning to least. The comments in the articles about any marginalized community, people of color, Hispanic populations, queer people, women, etc, are absolutely disgusting and are so racist, homophobic and transphobic. Annoying false advertisementI’ve downloaded and removed this app multiple times because it promises to keep me “alerted about local news and crime”. Except— it doesn’t do that. It doesn’t do that at all. Instead, it notifies me every single hour about “breaking news” despite having EVERY option in the notification setting turned OFF. I was promised alerts and notifications about crime in my local area— but there’s not even an option for “local crime”, only “local alerts”, which does NOT notify me of crime happening near by at all. Used to be goodThis used to be a great app for up to date news stories. The news part has become like Facebook with all the untrue stories. There are clickbait headlines, it’s very irritating when you read a captivating headline and click on it just to realize the story has nothing to do with what the headline states. Worst “News” App on the PlanetI have no idea how this thing allegedly has received so many 5-star reviews. All it does is serve up “stories” obviously written by AI, that ALWAYS have a ridiculously sensationalistic headline that doesn’t match anything in the actual story. The pattern that every story follows is this: A DEFCON 1-level sensationalized headline, followed by a story that meanders for several pages through mundane info that has nothing to do with the insane headline, with maybe, if you’re lucky, a final incredibly thin connection between the headline and some completely innocuous fact. Most stories irrelevant or misleading.I receive emails from NewsBreak for articles that are supposed to be national news. However, a lot of the articles are international. Not only that, but what should be front and center national news stories are nowhere to be found. The remaining articles are typically very politically biased, in either direction. Several of the headlines turn out to be misleading because they are historical articles being passed off as current based on the headline. The local articles are not really all that local either. As a matter of fact, the only ones that seem to be local are ads. Tweak your algorithm or whatever you guys need to do. If you want to send out international news then do so under an international subject line. Don’t lump it in with the national stuff. Repetitive postsI like this app for the fact that I can can pretty current local news. The biggest down side is that there is a repetitive almost and onslaught to just make a news break about the stimulus check. The post are over and over saying when you will get your stimulus or how much you will receive them but when you pay attention there really is no update at all. It seems like it is just making people who have the app anxious or aggravated that we don’t have the stimulus check yet. If there is not a real actual and factual update then don’t post a news break stating the same speculation reworded. Your only making your users more and more impatient for the stimulus. Great when it worksI love the fact that I can see all the news stories in one place instead of trying to look all over the web for them. However, I also deleted this app due to the many glitches I have encountered which cause frustration when there’s a story your really interested in reading. I’ll receive a notification for a news story, and after clicking it, the app will open up. Then 9 times out of 10 I’ll click to open the story and nothing will happen. I have to close the app and then reopen it, then try and search through the articles to find the one I received a notification for. Since I tapped the notification, I’m not able to tap it again. I usually just give up and go search google. The same thing tends to happen with the stories I might be interested in that show when scrolling to the bottom. The first link might work, but the rest won’t work at all. Local News cam be found elsewhere without the dubious articlesAt first it seemed convenient. I live in NYC and sometimes just the sheer density of it all can drown out some truly local news. And it was sometimes handy that covid info was readily available in the app. But whether it’s just by circumstance or design, the feed shows a pattern of peppering real news with dubious reports and some outright disinformation. I’m not talking about the NY Post that’s a highly opinionated, politically charged tabloid-it’s always been a part of NYC’s landscape and their inclusion in the local coverage is understandable. I’m talking about truly blatant misinformation about covid, vaccines and politics, and from “news” sites no one’s ever heard of. It’s not clogging the feed, but their occasional appearances make it almost more insidious. Extremely bigoted commentsI just deleted this app but when I first downloaded it, I actually liked it at first as it sent news from a variety of sources. What I did not enjoy was that there were no anti-racist, anti-lgbt, or anti-xenophobic (and literally anything else alike) comments. Deleting this appThis app has changed a lot in recent months and you’ll notice most of the happy reviews are older. I’ve tried multiple times to block contributors I don’t like, or product ads that are misleading, but that block only lasts a few days, and they’re back. I’ve gotten so tired of opening articles only to find they’re some sort of AI summary and not the actual article. I’m tired of clicking on “Watch til the end” videos that have no purpose… even if you watch to the end. Short videos posted by users that make absolutely no sense yet are still allowed.
