Beware Monthly Word LimitWhile this a good service and app, things could definitely be improved. My biggest qualm so far is that there is a monthly word limit at which point you are unable to use most of the voice options and are stuck with a robotic sounding woman’s name. I listen to a lot of audiobooks and podcasts while I work or multitask and so I was excited to use Speechify to listen to books that do not have Audiobook companions, pdfs, and online content. Within about two weeks I hit the monthly word limit and am now unable to really use the service because the non-enhanced/premium voice option is not very good. Secondly, while this service does have a broad range of voices in English some are better than others in terms of sounding less robotic or monotone when reading aloud and so there are really only four or five that I found myself using regularly. Some of the voices sound more natural and are good with pacing and understanding how to read a document and others not so much. For example, occasionally a word or two will be skipped by the voice or a part of a document will be read more literally than it is meant to. For example, when “….” is used to imply a pause the voices are likely to pronounce “dot dot dot” at the same speed and pacing as the rest of a document or e-book. I will wait and see what if any improvements are made to the service to determine if I will keep paying for it once the renewal date comes up..Version: 2.29.2

Absolutely Love ItI’m obsessed with this app. I never go into the App Store to rate apps, but this is such a game changer I had to. I initially got it to support my ADHD and heavy work schedule throughout my masters program, but there’s no way I’ll get rid of this as I move into my profession. The features in this app are incomparable, especially with the latest update. I was dying for the ability to highlight text and add notes and now we can. This has been the best purchase I’ve ever made and well worth the cost. I have to commute between clients for work and now each week I can download the required research articles, easily drop them in, and have AI summarize them for me. This enables me to listen to the full article while commuting and then utilize the AI summarization for review. Voice output and options are awesome - so many. I’ll stick with Gwenny P forever though it’s a great option. You can even quiz yourself on content and now have it structured as a podcast if that format of info holds your attention more. The app owners clearly take user feedback well and implement it. The only issue I have is that sometimes it glitches, but that’s been rare/temporary and honestly every technological advancement does that it comes with the territory. It’s never lasted long enough to impact my use of the app. Download this app immediately if you’re anxious about keeping up with readings while working full time or just to read books - it has a great bookstore/library as well. Thank you so much for this app I love it.Version: 5.0.1

Audible or Speechify?I spent hours comparing text to speech apps, and by far, Speechify has some of the best premium HD voices. I even considered dropping Audible, so that I could pay for an unlimited amount of HD voice listening time; however, while the HD voices are great, they’re not reliable enough for me to consider them as a replacement for Audible just yet. At times, they’re slow to load or glitchy. I wasted a good 200 or so words listening to Gwyneth lisp her way through sentences as if she was lapsing into a different language. I fiddled with her speech rate trying to remedy the problem, but it was to no avail. I had to switch to Michael. Michael read through everything perfectly, but he too had trouble staying on task. Even though I had plenty of of HD listening words left, he would intermittently cut out and be replaced by the British Male speaking voice. With all things considered, this is an app worthy of downloading. It does a respectable job transferring words from pictures—better than most. Sometimes, to my astonishment, it can read my handwriting. It hasn’t crashed, and apart from the HD voices, the standard voices seem quite reliable. I like that I can earn HD words the more I listen, and that there’s enough to stay entertained with in the free version. With a bit more perfecting, Audible might find itself facing the boot in favor of this nifty little app. For now, Audible is safe from the chopping block..Version: 2.18.5

A LIFE SAVER!My 1st time using my time to review an app ever! I’m in grad school and always have to read a lot of research papers and reading really isn’t my favorite! This has helped decrease the overwhelming feeling of reading a lot pages of assigned reading! I wish instead of paying about $12 every month, the app had a one time PERMANENT purchase option (not just yearly) for a reasonable price for broke college students especially! Something affordable where I’m only charged one time and that’s it! Because it’s too expensive for me to pay for it at the moment, I’m using the free version and I wish I could highlight w/the free version! Please make highlighting an option in the free version. Also cropping is a pain in the behind because as soon as I move one corner, the other corner shifts along with it. Also I don’t like how once I’ve moved a file in a folder, I can’t seem to move it back to being a file in the home/front page that’s no longer in a folder. As my classes are changing each semester, so are my folders and I would like to be able to keep certain files but delete folders! Also the other ways to important documents from google docs hasn’t worked for me. I’ve only been able to just take pictures of pdf documents, and that’s the only way that’s been working for me. And yes I’ve watched the ‘how to upload’ videos and followed them easily but it still didn’t work for me. I’m not sure if that’s because I’m using the feee option! Thank you for creating this app, it’s been helpful so far!!!.Version: 2.7

Good for people who read novels. This app means so much to me I am some one who reads really slowly and struggle with some words some times and this app helps me get by in life since I’m able to listen to my web novels stories that get me by in life in a sense of closure and peace it makes me feel like I’m in a whole different world when I focus on hearing the words instead of having to read it for some one like me who struggles a lot to read new words and so it let’s me be able to muti task while reading for example when I’m gaming or doing dishs or have a lot of loud and distracting noises near me that I normally would not be able to focus on if I read it by my self and it’s useful to me when I’m on the train and when I’m going out for walks it’s also helps getting a lot of chapters at once you can upload a web link of the chapters you trying to read and it can add 10 chapters at once for you making you be able to enjoy an hour of more of reading while doing such things as dishs where your hands get wet and you can even add books and pdfs such as Harry Potter and listen to it in 8 hours based on how fast you have the words read to you. You are also able to add pdfs and stuff which help with school, and work when you have to read things that would normally be very annoying and it even saves for you what you read for if you ever want to read it again I highly recommend this app to other people who love reading or need help with reading in your daily life it can even read things to you on computer for example if your on social media and want it to read to you a tweet or redit post..Version: 2.25.2

I love speechifyGonna be honest. I have only ever listened to fanfiction read to me off ao3. The amount of fanfiction I have listened to in the past two years with this app is staggering and probably not healthy. But I work a job where I have to wear a head set to protect my hearing and listening to music gets boring after listening to the same stuff for so long. So, yes, sometimes the AI lady pronounces something silly or wrong and sometimes formatting an author will do on a piece can screw with the AI but honestly nothing has bothered me enough to stop using it and I don’t exactly have a lot of patience with stuff that doesn’t work. If you have a link to a pdf of literally anything it’ll read it to you and you can even turn your phone off while it does. The ONLY and I mean ONLY issue I have with speechify is it drains your battery TERRIBLY. When I originally started using this app I had an older iPhone 12 and whewww it just did not last I had my phone constantly on charge. I have a new iPhone 15 now and though it still does drain the battery it’s not as quick but my phone still ends up on the charger before I leave work. Not to end this on a bad note, I recommend speechify to anyone I know who talks about how they don’t have time to read or has trouble with sitting and reading something. It’s genuinely exactly what I was looking for in a read-it-to-me app! I highly recommend!!.Version: 3.3.2

AwesomeI too have dyslexia. And I hated school for this reason. I couldn’t read stuff like my friends. I was always behind. I took so long to do homework because of it I couldn’t go out and play with my friends. I hated it. I cried and fought with my mom a lot. They put me in a special reading class to try to teach me how to turn the letters and words around. I even reverse numbers sometimes. When I was in first grade I had a teacher who would yell at me for not being able to read instead of trying to help me. So my parents held me back and put me in a different school. Where the teacher had seen it before and knew the signs for dyslexia. And I was tested and found out that’s what it was. I appreciate so much you creating this app. I do wish it didn’t cost so much. I understand you have to pay for the development and to keep it up to date. But that is a lot. I did teach myself to read and I do read books. But it does take me a lot longer than everyone else because of the dyslexia. But I do it anyway and even enjoy reading now. When I was a kid you would never see me read. But again thanks for creating an app that helps with that. I just wish the cost was lower I can’t afford that much a year at one time. Or if you had smaller monthly costs too that would be better for someone like me. Thanks again. I will use the free version for now. 👍🏻.Version: 2.10.0

Excellent Idea for dyslexicsIt is an excellent idea for dyslexics. The only problem: some words that are spelled identical are pronounced in America differently depending on their meaning. Even though you have a “Gwenith Paltrow reading it, the same problem exists. Might you think of asking retired teachers to donate a fully read book, or members of families with dyslexics—who are college grads, such as myself—to donate time to read for your library? It is embarrassing to a dyslexics to use out-of-content pronunciations as an adult. This is why I couldn’t give you 5 stars. My son who is dyslexic had a “reader” at Syracuse and graduated with Honors. He also has no short-term memory. All his schooling was based around those deficits and he is a success story. You may have more people than you could imagine willing to contribute to your effort to keep the cost of building a Library of Congress for dyslexics. By the way, the Library of Congress offers a free service for the blind and aged. You may consider asking for some of their prerecorded material for this effort to rapidly expand your offer and back build into your program grammar so that content determines pronunciation. These sources might improve the sound of the reading so it is less like a computer reading a book. Even MS Word has an improved read back of material. I think this is a great start to your program and wish you much success in your endeavor as English as spoken in America will be your greatest challenge..Version: 2.19.0

WOW!So helpful with ADHD. It tells you how many minutes it’ll take to read, taking away SO much of the intimidation I get from having to read anything. Pause at any time. It highlights the full sentence it’s on and follows along word-by-word “double highlighted.” It allows for dark mode. Love that for my light sensitivity! Tap the word you want it to start reading at if you’re skipping around. It’ll do exactly what you ask it to do. I wasn’t expecting it to be so good. I scanned two pages of my textbook. It even got the fine print and didn’t skip around to different paragraphs in a dumb way—even though the margins and pictures are designed in an awful way even for a human to read (thanks, dear engineers too cheap or stupid to hire real graphic designers with typography skills). It even read “g/mm^3” as “grams per cubic millimeter,” not “g slash m m carrot 3.” To top it off, the voice isn’t entirely annoying. The best automated voice imo, and believe me I’ve tried a ton. Maybe you can change the voice, but idk bc I just started playing with the app. Now I’m writing this review when I should be reading my textbook. Anyway, go ahead and download this app if you’re even on this page considering it—which ofc you are if you’re reading this rn. Good day. Edit—a few minutes later 🙃: Yes, you can change the voice. There are MANY to choose from! Excited to try them..Version: 2.18.5

No LIEThat’s the absolute truth I’ve had severe ADHD and as you get older… i’m a 55 year-old still teaching part-time teacher… And it’s very hard for me to read because I’m 25 steps ahead now I’m naturally 100% auditory/visual learner… I’ve been an artist since I was four years old prodigy… And I’m not bragging, but Dev this program you can process and I write now to professionally… Can you believe that I barely graduated high school because my reading comprehension was terrible… Actually, my high school as well as many other Towson like Raven high school very myopic in the administration in the upper levels extremely poor… Baltimore at that time had one of the worst reading scores, but as Einstein says books are a mass production to scheme…. He was terrible at math, but love physics and you think I’m to see three dimensions just like my Angelo… And many other great people who have studied in the 3D world…. of the mindset that all of us have the ability to leave our monkey mind sets behind completely once we hit about 20% of our brain usage. It’s like magic… The government in the military knows this and they are keeping us in a state of war and they are trying to keep the world and this is not just the US. This is everybody…. and entrance and vines these we don’t need in sleeves just sitting behind the desk all day long….. anyway check out Stephen Greer, Dr. Stephen Greer..Version: 3.0.2

The Best App for Research Papers, Discussion Posts and LSAT Prep!!!I usually don’t leave app reviews, but this app is so incredible that it deserved one! As a Pre-Law student in my junior year with a non-verbal learning disability, focusing on articles for a long period of time is extremely hard for me as I tend to get distracted easily. Speechify has become my new secret weapon in order to boost my productivity while also writing my research papers and or discussion posts for class. This app allows me the benefits of having my articles read out loud to me in a realistic voice like an audio book which is something that I enjoy (my favorites so far are Kylie and Sydney from Australia) and in the speed that I want them to be read at (I usually go somewhere in between 1.3-1.5 depending on the articles length) all the while writing research papers and discussion posts that I can hear read back to me in order to check for any errors. This app is the only subscription based app that I would actually pay for as I feel like it’s a worthy investment to my education in the long run as I plan on going to Graduate school in the future. The student education discount Speechify offers of 50% off the annual premium subscription (that can be found on their website) makes speechify a much more accessible tool to college students. I would definitely recommend this app to anyone looking for a way to boost productivity. Thank you all so much for making an app that not only supports but helps those with learning disabilities have equal access to education. I definitely plan on using Speechify for my LSAT prep next semester!!!.Version: 2.27.7

Great idea, but buggy and overpricedI originally saw ads for Speechify absolutely everywhere and thought it looked interesting, but didn’t really download it until I realized that there was no way I could finish 100 pages in the span of three hours (as I am a slow reader). So, with hopes of being able to finish the two fifty-page chapters in less than two hours, I downloaded Speechify. The app is great in the sense that you get to choose what you read, how fast it is read to you, and what voice you want it to be read in. And for the first 1000 or so words, it is free. But as a broke college student with many essays, textbooks, emails, and overall assignments that require reading, the roughly $12/month charge is not very forgiving. It makes sense—for what the app is, it makes sense to charge a small fee for the service. But $12 seemed pricy to me. The reading can be a bit wild at times. At the end of some pages (read by the app), I get a stream of random numbers and letters that do not appear anywhere in my reading. I have also noticed that if the scanned pages are not perfectly lined up horizontally, the reading might skip the first word of the line, resulting in confusion if you are reading at 1.7x speed like I am. Overall, though, the app is very helpful, and I would recommend it to my friends that can afford to pay for a subscription as to continue using the app. It helps me to read faster, focus, or even multitask every so often. It’s a fantastic idea for an app, but some tweaks might be appreciated..Version: 2.19.3

Worlds greatest AppI just wish I had Speechify when I was a young girl I found out I was dyslexic when I was taking eighth grade over for the second time. They knew I couldn’t comprehend they knew I could read but the problem was I wasn’t retaining it and it was extremely difficult but their practice and wanted to show that I’m not stupid even though I was in special ed classes as well I started reading more and more and more two books at the same time then I got up to three books at the same time finishing them and just expanding my mind today because I was not in school and work you’re on a computer I’ve kind of gone backwards but I’m trying again I’m back in college and 53 years of age to get a bachelors degree not in my first choice and love but it nonetheless it is still business and I look forward to this the only problem I have is the price that needs to come down so that more people can use it because I’m doing the three day trial but I will not be able to afford the price of the whole program if I can get it together I will but anyone that reads this it’s a great app and it does work and for those children that need the help it’s worth of money and it’s worth the money for me I just cannot afford it on a fixed income thank you and God bless..Version: 2.19.6

Never Reading An Article On My Own Again....This was my first time using the app, it can be hard for me to read because of my neuro-divergence and this app worked wonderfully for me. I tried to read an article that I was really interested in by myself three times and could not get through it. So I search text to speech apps, found this and I just finished the article. I am so thrilled to have read it and I retained the information. Now I am formulating my thoughts on the article and I figured I would come over and rate the app because it was really wonderful for me!! The narration (or text to speech) was very realistic, it was not super choppy or very “AI- ish”. It pronounced everything very well even things I thought it would mess up ... this article I just read would be a doozy for most text to speech apps and this one BREEZED right through. I LOVE the MULTIPLE playback speeds, as I could change it for an article that I want to pay closer attention too, I can slow it down even more. I also really appreciated the sentence being highlighted and the current word being double highlighted, it really helped me focus!! Cliff really put tremendous thought into this app and it shows. I think I might even pay for the premium sub to get the narrators voice ...I really liked him LOL..Version: 2.4.6

Awesome Creation! This is most definitely one of the most effective and productive process assisting programs ever created! It’s absolutely incredible! You can increase your ability and triple or quadruple your productivity in a matter of hours and get leaps and bounds ahead of your goals, expectations and colleagues with amazing results and accomplish your tasks in fractions of the time! It’s creators like this that make programs like this out of shear desperation and necessity that are absolutely required by so many that just need that one tiny bit of encouragement that really just doesn’t exist until it’s created like this so that they/we can become successful and surpass even our own wishes, ambitions and dreams which we thought impossible! Thank you for all your pain and suffering! All your hard work and misery! All your ambition and frustration! All your aggravation and accomplishments! All of your failures and triumphs! All your pain and dedication! You are: “ONE IN A MILLION”! This will help so many that have hidden in the dark on the sidelines for so long for fear of discovery! They will now come running out of the shadows to enlighten the world with their light and knowledge to show everyone their strength, ability and capabilities because of you and because of this! Thank you!.Version: 2.18.4

Studying Efficiency DoubledFor a long time I’ve been actively looking for a better way to study. Among my strategies is a time consuming, “actually reading aloud” important notes and sometimes whole passages into a handheld voice recorder. Many times, I have to review and replay small sections. I either have to record in small bits to select small sections or rewind and scan through large whole passages guess-timating more or less what I want to review. It can become a tedious process and makes for inefficient study but with this app I simply select the section I want to replay by touching the screen, along with the playback speed and tone and accent of voice choice. At $12 a month and as an active duty military member, a part time student, and a law abiding citizen trying to keep up with world news the premium for the app was contemplated for all of 20 seconds. I didn’t want to do it but I’ve made way worst financial decisions in the past. WHY NOT! If you don’t get the app you will be making a tiny mistake in your life. Also I must mention that there are free aloud readers out there but everything needs an active internet connection. Having the freedom to carry my smartphone and headphones around without being attached to a laptop is worth its weight in gold..Version: 2.18.1

I’ve never been diagnosedBut with all I’ve been through my whole entire life I know it’s true I have always admired people who love to read and wish that would happen to me because those people always seem to be so much smarter then me & I know I’m not dumb, I just can’t convince myself or others of that. I’m old now and in my day you are just not called the nicest names by your peers & your family. When it comes to retaining things and remembering things I just can’t do it. My parents always told me I had selective hearing and only remembered what I wanted to hear. Then explain this to me at the age of 10 my parents told me to be home by a certain time because the family was going to Disneyland, I was over at my friends house and never made it home on time I guess @ 4 or 5 they came over to my friends house to rub it in that they had just got back from Disneyland and I just missed out. My Grandparents and my little brother told me so I was devastated tell me what kid would rather play at their friends house which they did almost on a daily basis rather then go to Disneyland? One thing I felt was very strange though was they came home and it was not even evening yet usually when you go to an amusement park of that magnitude and price you would think you’d get your moneys worth and stay later in the night, We lived in West Covina, which was about an hour and a half to and from. Years later when I asked my brother again if they had gone to Disneyland or not he couldn’t remember I felt all along it wasn’t true but I couldn’t believe my grandparents would go along with a lie just to teach me a lesson, to this day I have no idea what the lesson was. LIFE CHANGINGOkay I know that title is super hyperbolic, but as a filmmaker and YouTuber this app has truly made my workflow much more seamless and fun. First off I never was a good reader growing up and even as an adult. I have to read to scripts for my work and honestly I have a hard time focusing on each script, but with Speechify it helps me stay focused on the script and allows my eyes and fingers to follow along the scripts. It really feels like a table read to me and give me the mental capacity to follow along and get into the script. Now as a YouTuber Speechify has allowed me to no longer have to rely on recording my own audio and having to study lines and fumble of the sometimes lengthy scripts for my videos. And how Speechify does this is I have recorded my personal voice with the AI feature and honestly the AI voice even fools me at times listening to it read the scripts I write out. I don’t ever have to fumble over lines or feel the pressure of recording myself in front of the camera and deliver a perfect performance, but now I focus more on the edit and the creation of my videos and leave the talking parts to AI. If any of this sounds like it could help you, then I would urge you to spend the money and make your life much more productive and entertaining..Version: 3.2.4

This has helped me SO much!As a dyslexic college student, drowning in the required readings and endless emails thrust upon pupils I have found myself trying anything and everything to increase my comprehension and reading speed. I simply don’t have time to reread a medical review 500 times as my brain unyieldingly demands! This app has been a savior to my grades, comprehension, confidence, and has boosted my craving for reading and knowledge! I would recommend this to anyone and everyone! Also, you can put books, yes real actual books you read for entertainment, into the app and create your own audiobooks! This app hasn’t only helped me in my college life, it has gotten me back to reading again! Love it!! The only negative thing I would say about this app is the premium version is EXPENSIVE. I tried it out to get a voice more personable and engaging but I found the cost more than I could justify. I love the premium voices (especially Harry!!) but as a broke college kid I just can’t afford it. Would you maybe consider making a free voice that is a little less monotonous? Maybe y’all could make Harry free? Yes, the latter request is a bit far reaching but it was worth a shot😅. Anyway - love the app and would recommend time and time again!!.Version: 2.18.4

My #1 App with a big requestSpeechify is undoubtedly the best AI reading app available. Well worth the price and it continues to improve with greater and greater accuracy. The skip features have greatly improved and this app has helped me to both meet and exceed my reading goals. That being said, there is one feature that I hope will be available at some point. I use speechify to read many pdf documents. I have many books in pdf format that I annotate and highlight quite a bit in speechify. The nature of these notes and highlights are for research purposes. It would be amazing if I was able to export my pdf documents with my highlights and notes. Regarding the notes (annotations), a simple way I see this being done is by appending pages to the document with the annotations having a reference number + page number they appear on. Another option is doing a quote reply format where the quoted section the annotation was added to was placed with the annotation in the appended pages (including the page number as well). How ever this works, it would turn what is mostly a reading app into a fuller research and study tool. Please consider this Speechify team. You’re doing great and keep up the good work..Version: 5.0.17

I’m loving it!I always read really slow compared to others and I always tend to read better with someone/something reading it out loud. On this app though I can just easily take a picture of my book pages and it loads within a minute which is really fast and amazing and I just listen to it. It does mess up on some of the words which is understandable that’s why I’m glad I can just edit the text from what ever it messes up. I love how you can just add folders because I’m separating my book by chapters because that’s easier and to make it a whole lot easier I just add it in a folder with the book title as the folder name. It’s easy to add series also because I can add folders within a folder and I find that absolutely amazing. I’m glad I found this app so I can actually read better and read more of what I love! I already been suggesting this app to a lot of people and I only got it yesterday. I love this app already! I’ve been listening to my book all day while doing some work without buying things like some ebook apps even though they're some things you can buy like translation and voices which I might actually buy soon! ❤️❤️❤️Thank you so much! You’re such a life saver! I’m glad this app exists!❤️❤️❤️.Version: 2.3.3

Not there yetI actually use this quite a bit and would love it to work better. I’m paying for the premium and you should expect to as well because the free version hits you with a lot of ads and they interrupt the reading in a bad way. The other perk to the paid version is the nice voices. That steps up your experience in a big way and sets it apart from just highlighting text and having your phone read it. Problem is, the better voices only work some of the time and that seems to glitch everything up. For example, if I’m not in my house or office using Wi-Fi, I always have to switch it back to the robot voice or it will have too much trouble loading. I’ve only ever used this app to read websites or blog entries and really can’t see myself taking pictures of books ever but guess that could be useful for someone with a reading problem. I typically been using this app to dictate articles while I am multitasking but wish it would expand into my work day a bit better and I could use it to easily read emails to me without having to leave my inbox. The native iPhone dictation does this all right but I was hoping that this app would replace that. I still use the native iPhone dictation most of the time because it integrates into my workflow much better. I use the native iPhone dictation features to proofread my own emails before sending them and also to speak out things (such as this review right now) instead of typing everything. I really wish that was something this app could do as well -at least the reading emails/proofreading parts. I don’t know how long I will continue to pay for it if those upgrades don’t happen and I can’t integrate it into me texts/emails. For now I’ll keep paying in hopes that this will be heard..Version: 2.17.2

Deleted filesUpdate: adding back some stars because customer service eventually got my files restored. I never write reviews, but I’m making an exception because of the absolutely awful experience I have had. When I signed up for a premium subscription I had unlimited access to AI voices and I used the app heavily for months. At some point, Speechify introduced a word limit on AI voices without notifying Premium customers. I was not happy about this but I still didn’t think it warranted a negative review. What got me here was the fact that I messaged customer service about an issue I was having with the app freezing while reading epub files. A chatbot responded telling me to uninstall and reinstall the app. I did this then signed back in and restored my Premium subscription. Bafflingly, doing this resulted in all of my files being deleted and my listening history being reset to 0 minutes and 0 words. I had listened to over 5.4M words and was in the middle of a long document. Contacting customer service resulted in another message from a chatbot telling me my history should be backed up with iCloud and the restore would happen automatically. Well I’m backing up the app with iCloud and my history isn’t restored. I also wasn’t warned that doing this could result in all of my files being deleted. $160 headache..Version: 3.2.4

Convenient when it worksIt’s a convenient way to listen to epub and pdf files…when it works. It tends to get stuck(pause) and not read any longer after a certain amount of time or (this is just a guess) if the file is too large. Though with the most recent update this has somewhat decreased. I had to adjust the voice I use because of the premium word limit. Which is pretty much garbage considering how much a yearly subscription is. That should be unlimited. **One of the most recent updates makes it so you can’t change the font on epubs. Not a huge problem but annoying. Something that I’m not a fan of AT ALL is I can’t drag my finger across the time bar to change where I’m at, I can only use the chapter index and scroll. This most recent update is my least favorite so far. The pausing is happening more often and the app will just stop playing and restart. Then when you open it sometimes it just keeps loading but won’t play. The continue listening section is only showing up sometimes. Epubs are having issues following the text; it’ll show what it’s reading in a tiny bubble but won’t bring the document visual down so you can see it in real time. I’ll update the review dependent on future updates..Version: 4.3.26

Why I chose not to subscribe after 3 day trial.I really wanted to like Speechify. When it works, its very nice to have for reading articles while I am commuting. It is also helpful for for learning a foreign language. I am trying to teach myself French and having Paris Match read to me in French is great. The problem is when it doesn’t work properly translate its very frustrating. I spent some time during the 3 day trial to see if was worth the $139 cost. For that price, it does need to work consistently which it didn’t - at least for me. Using the web extensions on Safari in general worked both on free and via paywalls once permission was granted. I also tried using it on PDF but not the desktop. I really like the Premium voices and believe they make a difference when they work. The problem is that for the few that I used in English the spoken words went from clear pronunciation to gibberish that I could not understand. Wait a few sentences and then it would frequently become understandable again only shift back to something I couldn’t listen to. I found this to be the case for both the latest iPhone Pro and iPad Air. Waiting for the speech translation to become available made no difference over time. Also not making sense is the wide range of subscription options offered via the App Store. There are a wide range of premium pricing models (per year) when the only one that appears to be valid is $ 139 per year model - assume you subscribe for the year. To team Speechify, if you fix your problems and give me a short new try to confirm I will consider purchasing however the bugs need to be addressed otherwise the pricing is too expensive for what you get..Version: 2.19.0

Works, but needs editing to work well!I often listen along while reading to provide multi sensory input to improve my reading comprehension and memory, but the long time while editing can be counterproductive at times. Most of the documents I need to read, such as academic papers and textbooks, have multiple columns, text boxes, charts, etc. per page. For this to work correctly on Speechify, I find I must go through each page to edit the columns and mark each text area. This isn’t too bad, but the editing feature can be finicky and hard to line up if you don’t have neat columns for the entire page. There is only one “template” for up to 4 columns, but this doesn’t always align well with whats on the page. Columns and text boxes are doable, but charts not so much yet (but those are usually for visual studying, anyway). Additionally, it will miss spaces frequently and so bunches several words together, causing speechify to spell out the block of text letter by letter instead of interpreting the words. For this reason I often have to edit the text while reading/listening, too, to add the spaces or correct the punctuation. I find this app helpful for my needs (I have ADHD and autism and am in grad school with tons of heavy duty reading), but it requires a bit too much extra work for the high cost of the app!.Version: 2.16.1

This Is A Total Game Changer!!!🙏🙏🙏This is really good, like really really good. I’ll be able to get through a text book a week if not a day! With this app. It’s just so breath taking. When I watched the creators YouTube videos about the app it seemed too good to be true and I thought it was a scam, but low and behold it’s a freaking gold mine! A major arbitrage opportunity! This has just become my new secret weapon, straight A’s here I come..Version: 1.9.30

SpeechifyI’m dyslexic and this is help me very much throughout school and just in general it is not only help me and improved my reading but I also recommended it to my family members and that is very well speak if I had also taught me words I didn’t know that honestly existed so thank you speechify for helping me😊.Version: 2.4.8

Not good not badThis app is on such a roll with where it’s going, but it needs a lot of work. I thought I was all set with my chrome extension but the app just seems to really lag and struggle too many times. One thing that is a major issue is that with online school there are a lot of powerpoints with information. If you open the PowerPoint online, it will not read it. Highlighting the text also does not work. This will likely be the reason I do not stick with this application as it can’t truly read everything on a web page. I have put way too much effort into trying to get it to work when it’s supposed to help save time and be efficient. I look forward to where this technology goes but for now it’s just not really that helpful..Version: 2.16.3

Unreal, best experience so farThis Text-to-Speech software is worth your time. Try it free, on different platforms. I am currently using the "Narrator" (beta) voice and starting at 160 WPM speed for better retention. My school notes now have the same vibe as a BBC documentary and it's a vibe. The price for premium is steep for one year but honestly time is money and the amount of time you'll save once you train yourself to use this program efficiently outways the price. I am currently restructuring my school notes formatting so that it can be read smoothly with this app. I think that I have it figured out and the time learning to work with this program already seems worth it. Check it out..Version: 2.16.0

Latest update is awfulSo the latest update (im writing this in late November ‘24) is terrible. Speechify now inexplicably skips words and mispronounces numbers constantly. It will occasionally skip entire sections of text for no discernible reason. This occurs even when going into text editing mode and ensuring there are no formatting errors. I like speechify, its highly useful to me as a student. However, I have to say that the service is ripe for competition. If anyone from speechify ever sees this, if you want to stay relevant, focus less on fancy Ai bells and whistles and more on ironing out your core functionality issues..Version: 4.0.3
