Stoic. journal & mental health Positive Reviews

The LightsThere was a period in my life where I felt stuck. Where no matter which direction I took, I was overcome with feelings of regret and skepticism, only to end up back at square one and repeat the cycle, over and over and over again. This period lasted for almost two years, and in that time, I was in the darkest place in my life. I was tired, but I didn't sleep. I was full, but I didn't fast. I was lonely, but I didn't seek. I was laughing, but I didn't smile. It truly felt like I was reaching the end of my rope and grasping to find nothing was there to begin with. To find that my life had amounted to nothing. This review isn't here to tell you the cliche "This app changed my life!", but once I started using Stoic, it did get me THINKING about my life. I realized I was so focused on trying to control aspects outside of my control and achieving the dreams that weren't even my own, I had lost sight of who should've been living my life: me. It sounds obvious at first, right? You are the only one that has the power to live your life, right? Yet, there are people who are obssesed with trying to fill a hole that was dug by others. It shouldn't have to be this way. It doesn't have to be this way. You are in control of your life, cause no one else is you. Thank you Stoic, for not only turning on the lights, but for teaching me how to keep them on..Version: 2023.7

A non judgmental guide to a better selfThis app just keeps getting better and better. While using stoicism as a framework, this app has really been a way for me to practice personal reflection and awareness, cultivating better emotional wellness. Easily accessible techniques for gratitude, journaling, meditation, and breathing exercises without the pressure of any one thing being a requirement. The app guides you to those tools through a pleasant sequence without any pressure to use specific techniques. It’s so gentle. If you want to journal, then journal. If you want to meditate, then do that. And if you don’t, that’s ok too. It’s totally up to you. I find tremendous value in the simple act of making these sequences a part of my daily morning and evening routine; from simply opening the app and assessing how I feel to what my priority for the day is to how productive I felt. The app now even guides personal reflection towards specific categories. If in the morning I say I’m going to focus on reading, in the evening the app will then guide me to reflect on recalling what I read that day. So simple, but so helpful. Excellent user experience, an essential part of my every day routine now..Version: 2020.9

Maybe I don't know how to use this app?I'm not really sure how I feel about this app. While it does ask you questions/give you prompts to get you talking about things, sometimes the questions are weird. I had one this morning, somewhere along the lines of "what are you then, a mere body? a ration being." And I'm staring at my screen like how do I even answer this if I don't understand the question? There's other ones that are similar and because I don't understand what it's asking me to write, sometimes I'll just put "lol" so I can move to the next page. Then when you're done with your questions it will ask if you feel better and mostly my answer has been no because the questions it gave me were weird. You can pick what questions you'd like to be asked everyday but none of them really jump out to me as something I'd want to answer daily besides the one sentence summary of your day but even that is whatever. I do like that it tracks your mood, would be cool to have another tracker for what is causing your mood instead of the sad to happy face scale. The quotes are cool too. I've been using the app for about 2 weeks now and I feel like maybe twice out of the 14 days, it's actually asked me something relevant. More often than not, I'm using the blank page entries instead but I could just write those in my actual journal. Perhaps this app isn't for me, but it seems to work for people..Version: 2021.15

A great app with only one downside.I have always wanted to journal my entire life. Looking at a blank piece of paper always inspired me to write down my own “life experiences.” But alas I never did such thing, until last year I downloaded Stoic. At first I didn’t write anything and nearly deleted this app, but then I did start writing, and I haven’t stopped. 230 app check-ins, 118 journal entries, and just under 7000 words. I love this app, the creators behind it actually care and give an effort to inspire you. I check in everyday, sometimes just to view my life progress. I had times I was up and down, others I was inspired, and some I was just filled with hate and a burning ego. But now I recognize that; I recognize how I was, how I am, and how I should be. All because of this app. The developers should be proud of this creation, for it has changed my life immensely. Now my only con: I am concerned I will lose my progress, all it would take would be one accident with my ever aging phone, and that’s it. All gone. I can’t afford to pay the price of subscription every month, but I wish there was a one time payment option that would allow you to save your progress. Having that would be a godsend, and would rightfully earn this app a full 5 stars. Thank you for reading..Version: 2022.59

Refreshing Concept.I was introduced to this platform, in the hopes of improving self-refelection. I think the intital reaction was excitement, because I had not considered such a concept. However, I will say, over time, I've come to realization that the effort is heavily dependent on personal determination and organization. I dont utilize it perfectly to a T, but it does provide clarity at moments when i can sit with myself. There is not an extensive array of prompts and exercises for the standard version, so I cannot speak upon what a premium, or paid version would further provide. That is an idividual decision for one to make. Overall, I do enjoy the platform and have recommended it to others. I only wish to utilize it more effectively. And while I understand the platform's resoning for not storing personal data or connecting something to a certain idvidual, I have found a slight displeasure in realizing the computer version I have and the mobile phone app version I have are NOT synchronized or connected in any way. That may be a personal misunderstanding, but ideally, I would like both version I have to be connected in some way. Would still encourage others to explore the app themselves, worth it..Version: 2021.27

Life Changer for People with Mental Health Issues!I have various mental health issues and nearly 2 decades of trauma that I’ve been desperately trying to cope with. I’ve been to so many mental health programs, rehabs, I've bought so many self development books and work books, tried other apps, taken all kinds of meds and have tried different types of therapies. Granted some of those things helped me tremendously(particularly long term outpatient therapy with a great therapist), it’s been consistently difficult for me to build healthy and healing habits into my everyday life. After only a few days of using this app, it has reduced my crippling anxiety and depression significantly. It has also helped me cope with my other mental health issues such as BPD, addiction, PTSD, Bipolar, and things such as chronic self image issues. My issues are still there obviously, but I don’t feel so helpless. I have such a long ways to go, but this app makes it so convenient to stick to those healthy and healing habits I wish to incorporate into my everyday life so I can make progress in creating a happy and fulfilled life for myself long term..Version: 2021.32

Becoming a large part of my daily routineI really enjoy this app. I can open it in the morning to start off my day well. I am finding that taking 30 minutes to myself to incorporate a couple apps has really helped me to be able to have a better and more productive day. I use stoic first, pick a focus for the day and the prompts help me to think it through much better and break things down. I have also used it during the day with the breathing exercises to help me to focus, or calm down and it’s been a huge help. To look back on the day after it’s completed is nice as well as those moments my mind won’t shut off during the night I can combine journaling and breathing or meditation. I combine my coffee, stoic, look up my horoscope and then use my Saged app. It’s helping my mental health, my physical health and self esteem as I have had brain surgery and been left with cognitive difficulties as well as seizures. It’s gives me that sense of control that I’m caring for myself and I’m able to handle the different things that come up during the day much better than the days I don’t use it..Version: 2022.9

This is an amazing appI typically do not like journaling on my phone however, I stumbled upon this app and gave it a try and I absolutely love it. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to buy a membership but I did because I wanted to have full access to the entire app to be able to really see if it was worth it. So far, I have used the app in the morning and evening. I wanted to be able to track my mood to get a good sense of what really bothers me and be able to journal. I find that it really helps me find peace and be able to find happy moments in my day when it is hard to find sometimes. I love being able to find ways to be grateful and this really helps me find those moments in the day when you’ve been so stressed and all you can think of is the negative parts and then turning it around to find those moments that stand out that are positive. Even during times of stress I have been able to see the positive. I’ve been able to take a step back and really look at each situation as a learning experience and sometimes it is hard to do when you are battling depression, anxiety and PTSD. Definitely recommend this app!!.Version: 2020.31

YuhhhhhhI downloaded this app last week and it’s been on my home page since then. I’ve only started using this app a few days ago and OMG😳 This app is so beautiful. I’m only writing a review just so I can ask if you guys can put a password for the journal part because my mom looks through my phone and I don’t want her to read the things I write in there💀 Anyways, I do actually really love this app and its perfect from the bottom of those codes and to the top of the icon. It’s iconic honestly. Not to forget the fact that it’s been lifting burdens and weights off of my back when I type everything in details. It’s like a friend that I’ve always wanted, which is sad because none of my real (alive) friends are there for me and asks me how I am like how stoic is🥲 Ever since the app asked me the first question, I’ve poured allllll of the things I wanted to say and in details too. I- this app is like that one friend that you have that’s always there for you no matter what and genuinely cares for you so deeply and that you’re comfortable being around them even though you’ve only met last week. yknow? this app is my twin flame..Version: 2021.14

Try This AppAs a philosophy student and a productivity nerd, I’ve probably tried somewhere over 20 different journaling apps over the years and nothing has ever felt complete enough to make it worth the time. Within my first sit down with this app however, I actually found myself crying in some moments and smiling at others, ultimately feeling like I had done something truly productive. This app is incredibly in-depth and really delivers a guided experience that is tailored for your personal goals. It is structured enough to feel like you know what to do in order to benefit from it, and it is open-ended enough to feel like you don’t need any other app to accompany it, which makes it feel very complete and satisfying to have everything in one place. The customizable options, philosophical quotes and questions, and the array of mental exercises to choose from make this app an excellent tool to heal and grow. I have no doubt that this will continue to be a valued part of my daily routine, and I urge anyone reading this to try this for yourself!.Version: 5.8

Stoic.Personally I love this app. You can pay for the subscription but I didn't and it does well with the limited exercises. For someone who likes to plan stuff out and write things down this app really helps with that and it's honestly so cool to look back and see what struggles you encountered and how you got throught that. I always hated the advice of "try journaling" because in reality why would I write something down that I already know in my head? Does that make sense??? But I do have to say i've come to realize guided journaling has so many mental and physical benefits. I feel more connected with myself and emotions. The guided questions help me challenge my thoughts in ways I would'nt have thought to do myself. And at the end of the day you can only complain so much about how you feel until you fianlly start trying new things to help yourself. That's what this app is for, to help make that next step to happiness, recovery or any other thing your struggling with that much easier..Version: 2022.44

This app is revolutionaryI struggled to journal. FOR YEARS, I tried to journal over but I could never keep the habit. Maybe I wasn't asking the right questions or maybe I was just not introspecting enough. This app changed everything for me. I have been journaling deeper and more consistently ever since I downloaded the app. The prompts are so clear, and force you to really stop and think about your life. I find this guided journaling way more useful than anything. I also really enjoy how well made the app and the UI are. The app puts you in the driver seat of how you want to reflect but has neat bells and whistles for additional content. Overall, this is an amazing app and I would recommend it to anyone who is feeling stuck, or wants to reflect more. I would ask for one thing from the developers. The reflection quotes that are part of the prompts can be so nice, but sometimes I wish that there were a way to save them within the reflection. Please provide support for this feature..Version: 2023.15

Making a differenceI’ve been struggling with depression and anxiety all my life. I don’t feel comfortable w personal counseling, which I have tried. I’ve read multiple self help books ranging from CBT to The Power of now, all incrementally helped and gave me short term motivation but I lacked discipline. I also have and continue to use Youper for on demand emotional assist. Mornings are the worst for me. At times I am woken by anxiety. When it’s bad I force myself to cry before leaving the house because I don’t know what’s wrong but I know crying helps. This app has made the most difference so far- I’ve only used it for 2 weeks. It’s the first thing I do when I wake up. I don’t check mail or social, I brew my coffee and start w Stoic. The daily quotes are great weather I chose to reflect on them or not. Having to write/pause/set goals puts me in a whole different head space before my day actually starts. Today I woke up not anxious and looking forward to Stoic asking me -do you feel prepared for the day? So far the Answer has been Yes.Version: 2020.7

Amazing work. Few additionsThis app is great. It has really allowed me to journal as a beginner -> intermediate. It has prompts, free pages, and so much more including exercises. The only thing that I would love, is to be able to use my iPad as paper and have it be in the page instead of as a attachment. For example, if I’m reflecting on a quote in the app I would love to be able to write with the Apple Pencil where it says to start writing instead of having to click around and essentially write on a separate page/attachment that does not even show the quote(you know what I mean?) But other than that very tiny tiny idea of mine this is a great app, has everything you can think of, and for a lifetime subscription of 90ish the environmental benefit of not having to keep paper journals is great(as long as I can emulate the concept of writing with the Apple Pencil) 10/10! Should try it for a week at least! Journaling can really help, I have been a skeptic but now look!.Version: 2021.48

Very good, but some things I wish it had.So overall it’s a very good app. I have been using it for almost a month, and I haven’t found anything to dislike, except two things. I think it’s a good idea for when using a “blank page” how you can set a goal for a certain amount of words and a certain amount of time. But, I find that if I’m typing then go off to do something for a couple of minutes, then when I come back the timer was running still. Therefore I was not typing for 10 minutes. To fix this, my solution would to only count time if the user is typing. The second thing l wish was different is very simple. A week on the app is Sunday-Saturday, but I use a Monday-Sunday week. I really wish there was a way for me to switch to a Monday-Sunday week, that way it alines with my outside life. Like I said, I really love this app, but if these two things I listed were improved, then I would really love the app even more..Version: 2022.3

I was skeptical at first.I’m trying to be a bit more aware the tone I’m thinking in. documenting my thought process throughout a time period helps me be more self aware. I tried physically writing but I can’t stand my handwriting and how inconsistent it is and then I’d accidentally switch notebooks and dates would be out of order- bleh. I tried social media but, this is rather private. yk? then I decided one day to just download this. I looked through the reviews, figured whatever let’s try it. the first two days, I wasn’t crazy about the app although once I became adjusted to the app’s algorithm and was it’s formatted: I enjoy it. I do, I would love a bit more personalization but that’s just me. it’s just a bonus I’d like. (although I love the app’s dark / soft theme. not all the options within the app (moods, activities, quotes) are particularly my style but the range this app gives you? with the different preset moods and activities and so on - awesome work guys. definitely download. plus it’s free!.Version: 2020.4

One flawI love this app, I really do. The journal prompts are great. They really have you think and answer questions that you may not have thought about to get to the bottom of your feelings. I love the simplicity of the app, as someone with ADD the black and white seems to really help me not be all over the place and it’s not distracting I love the walk prompts and audio clips. The layout and order in which the activities are presented are very productive and well thought out. The ONLY thing that drives me a little crazy about this app is the widget. I have the affirmation widget on my home page and most times a preview of a great affirmation will come up on the widget being that it has somewhat of an automation that shows your random affirmations from your Home Screen. Well, I would like to add it as my affirmation for the day by clicking the plus botton and or clicking the widget to open the app and save the affirmation and/or read further into it but when I do it just disappears on me. I can’t find it, have no clue where to find it because I struggle to find them in the affirmations section and it’s just a good affirmation gone to waste. Please fix this: If an affirmation is suggested on the Home Screen. When you click it, because you evidently have interest in it, you should be able to see it, read it, save it upon the app opening. Other than that, this is a beautiful app. I would HIGHLY suggest this app to those that suffer from ADD like myself..Version: 2021.35

FantasticI’ve always strived to set my goals and intentions for the day and reflect on them in the evening but have always struggled to keep up with it. There is something about Stoic that makes me feel a sense of peace and motivation when I open it. Every aspect of it is incredible, from the daily quotes from Stoic philosophers and the Buddha (my philosophies of choice) to answering the questions I set each morning & night, doing a visualization or meditation within the exercises, and even to the minimalistic UI and animations. Everything fits and everything makes me want to use the app more and more, which in this case is actually a good thing. Stoic is as far from pseudo-psychology as you can get. It’s pretty simple: If you setup your daily questions and just do what the app was built for. Twice a day. If you use it and apply it it will change your life. No question. The app is perfect, so it’s up to you if you want to follow it. If you do, good luck! I’ll be right there with you..Version: 3.8

Stoic convinced me to try journalingTLDR: Great app. Get it. Developers (for Mac): please add the option to add photos in more places (journal entries especially) I have never been in the habit of writing in a journal. but in the past week i have been researching apps to help with my productivity system. i didn't expect to include it, but it has been a great way to start and end my day. i have always been a list guy. but the prompted questions help me frame my day, which directly influences how i pupulate my to do list. Stoic also creates space for me to ramble, before i hone my todo list in the Reminders app. The one thing i wish is that the devs create more opportunities to add photos to the journal. i would love to pull my daily photos out of my iphoto/photostream to create context around the shot so i can reflect back on my week/day etc. it brings more meaning than just looking at photos in iphoto. I did notice that some questions allowed for photos. "list three amazing things that happened today." but i need more control over when i want to share photos. i'm shocked i cant just add them to wherever i want. I'll stop here. i think the app is great. it really helps me focus on what is important and be mindful, rather than opening a social media or news stream app by reflex. when i do that it tends to subliminally direct focus toward whatever that algorithm thought was important that day..Version: 2021.47

Organized, straightforward reflectionI have journaled for many years, and many times due to not having proper questions set up, I go around in circles or there is no continuity to gleam insight from in my notes. With this app asking you the same questions with variability mixed in, it provides structure with challenges to make sure you dont repeat your entries. I have been able to gleam insight about my goals and whether or not i pursue them out of fear of rejection or ego, that i havent spent enough time with my family, that i have had much anger i hadnt dealt with, etc. This app also has great practices such as fear setting to guide you along complicated thought processes you have. Imagine having a great and caring interviewer ask you about yourself in depth every morning and evening. That is what this app is. It boosts your faith in yourself, allows you to see your own fallacies in your thoughts, and probably gives you the power of flight though i havent reached that badge yet.Version: 5.5

Absolutely Incredible - Better than OthersAbsolutely incredible. The focus breathing, the journaling, and the adaptability to each user. I have never seen such an app before. I have downloaded over 20 journaling apps, but I eventually always delete the app because I forget to journal because the app doesn’t help me. Now, this journaling app is incredible. I write 3-5 times a day and use its focus breathing exercises so much. This is the only app I want to actually support with money even though I am a stingy person. —— Update: I do dislike the new feature where it asks you to think negatively to become grateful without being able to decline like last update. For those who are suffering depression, anxiety, and other mental issues, this is a big black hole that one can go into. I plead the developers to lock this feature away by being able to decline before the app asks you that question..Version: 2021.6

This is the app I needed. This is the app I needed. I’ve been looking for this for a long time. What I’m here to treat: Bipolar Disorder 1, ADD, Anxiety and Relationship problems. Why I have failed with past apps and what this one gets right 1) Clutter/Non-optimal design Due to my extreme sensitivity and need for minimalism, other apps with their colors and complex menus were usually too much. This one is white one black. Perfect. Journal history view is scroll-only with effective use of emoji to efficiently encode the information. Perfect. 2) Need multiple apps By way of illustration, prior to finding this app, I was using and paying for multiple apps featuring breathing exercises and CBT, to name a couple. A dedicated breathing exercise app may still be desirable for you, but if you’re easily overwhelmed such that the prospect of needing multiple apps will increase your chances of failure, know that this app contains breathing exercises and guided meditations alongside the best-in-class CBT, in my opinion. Perfect. 3) Daily commitment feels to complicated or involved. Many apps make me dizzy with what they want me to do to get better. This one asks me to select a minimal drawing of a mouth to indicate my mood, quotes a stoic philosopher to inspire me and then gives me the option of what I want to do from there, while first gently encouraging me to journal by prompting a conversation. Perfect..Version: 2021.15

Best journaling appI’ve tried loads, this one takes the cake. The only thing I have an issue with is it asks the same questions over and over and over again. I’ve gotten “what traits would you like to see in your ideal boss” too many times. Please add in questions that have answers that change everyday. Like “what work are you focusing on today” or “how can you improve your work atmosphere today” or questions like that. My ideal boss usually stays the same and answering the same question with the same answer gets annoying and boring. However, all that said, this app has helped me build the habit of journaling my day and provides me options on why I’d like to include. I can add pictures and detail what I focused on, then track my patterns throughout the weeks or months. It’s lovely going back to see what I’ve felt and accomplished. Plus it does all this with stoicism in mind. Just please, change the questions for the love of god.Version: 2023.9

Theraphy and great for everyday.Man do I love this app. Using it every morning to start my day helps get the ball rolling. I pay for it and use all the features from Journaling, breathing guides and the Daily questions. You do these questions everyday in the beginning and end of the day. It asks you what your plans are for the day and goes deeper into those plans so you plan it better and think about it. At the end of the day it asks you specific questions about how you did. Its like a person keeping you in check. I need to do better using the Journal. It has all kind of questions to start your writing and its great to get even more thoughts out. There are a lot of features and things to do on here. You just need to go through all the Exercises. If you do subscribe, make sure to go through your settings and customize your questions you would like. I think they only have a few set up when you sign up but they have 100's of questions that guide your day. Only thing I would say is The Meditation and Read are not the greatest. Reading is just quotes. It would be great to read more long form. As for meditation it would be great to have guided meditation. I use another app for my meditation because I just like the guided format. Other than that I love the Daily questions, Breathing and Journals!.Version: 2022.19

Lovely... but personal info red flag? The concept for this app is really wonderful, and it has good writing prompts, thought-provoking quotes, and asks it’s users questions that facilitate insight. And, it also asks yes/no questions that - it seems the only possible thing that Stoic could do with user answers would be to collect and sell data sets about their users. These questions have included things mostly related to lifestyle, like “Do you drink alcohol?” or “Do you exercise?”, specific questions are not related to the app’s functionality, and are very market-driven questions. I’m well aware that most apps collet user data and sell it - that is our current context of targeted advertising and capitalism - but for an app about mental health, this phenomenon might be addressed with a little more transparency? As in, I’m ok with you collecting my info and selling it, but I feel a little conned when it under the auspices of therapeutic support :). I’ve decided to stop using it for that reason, but with more transparency would consider it again... But, kudos on the rest of the app!.Version: 4.3

Solid way to mobilizeSometimes it’s good to make time to really see what it is you’re doing and why you’re doing it and what you’d like to do differently. A lot of the time though it’s difficult to take a good look at it all and find a way to ask the right questions and be impartial in helping ourselves to feel resolved and capable to take on whatever it is that we are presented with. This app is a tool to ask yourself good questions about what’s important to you to and hear what it is you have to say about how and why you live the way you do. This app makes it easy to record and review your answers to the challenges you face and what your answers to them were. A lot of people would like to journal and find it difficult to make time for and I enjoy that this app provides the benefits of journaling in a way that is easy and effective. It also is pleasant visually and easy to interact with. Good stuff..Version: 4.8

Life Changing App, Love It.I rarely write reviews for apps, but when I do so it’s either because I hate it and had to express that, or love it (which is the option here). I’m extremely impressed. Like seriously. I’ve been going through a lot mentally and emotionally the past several weeks, and this is like having a personal journal to jot down your ideas, thoughts, and to help silence your mind from those scrambling thoughts floating around in your head. Everything was well thought out, I love the minimalistic yet elegant approach in terms of the UI and how helpful it is to help pull any and/or every thought out of your head to help guide you to being more present and self aware of what you’re feeling, how you’re feeling, etc. I loved it so much I subscribed for the yearly plan (with the free trial of course so I can see what additional benefits I’ll get). The mantras are amazing and they help set the tone of the day! Much love, I’m a fan..Version: 2020.11

High Recommend!!I’ve written a couple app reviews for this app before, but I just want to put in that after using it for about three months now, I must say that stoic is quite a wonderful app! It gives you all sorts of options for things to do that really help my everyday mentality, like breathing excersize, meditations, and fear settings/thought excersize. A high recommend! I’d say my only issue with this app is probably that the morning routines are SO long. Honestly I don’t mind doing them, but I just wish there were options to choose the amount of questions asked. People are busy, not everyone has 30 minutes each morning to answer like 10 questions. Perhaps five or six? Also I like the meditation options they have, I only wish they had a few guided ones. That’s only a request, not a complaint though! My first point was a complaint..Version: 2021.9

Fantastic App for Journaling!A lot of other people have already done an excellent job at highlighting the great uses of this app, so I’m not going to spend many words addressing the amazing qualities of this app. I will say, however, that this app has dramatically changed my life by making me more introspective, open to growth, and willing to change to the way in which I interact with the world. It has helped me curb my worst habits and improve my virtuous qualities, and I’m greatly appreciative of that. I just have some suggestions for the developers that I would love to see implemented into the app. 1. Writing your own questions: Don’t get me wrong, the reflection questions that Stoic provides are wonderful, but they’re also very broad. Obviously, the default questions must be broad to be accessible for people of all demographics, but I would like to have questions that are more tailored to my own specific experiences. I think the best way to do this is by letting users create their own custom questions that they can respond to each day. In my case, at least, this change would make the questions even more meaningful and effective. 2. Darkmode: The evening time reflection page is great, but I wish there was an option to make black the dominant color for all the other screen options (even the morning reflection page). 3. Naming morning and evening reflection pages.Version: 3.6

The perfect app for my daily journaling needsI feel a deep debt of gratitude to the makers of this app. I feel as if I’ve been searching for just the right journaling app and this one feels like coming home to the one made just for me. I am remembering back to the time around eleven years ago when I was jumping around between different Buddhist groups trying to find where I fit in before finally feeling at home with a Zen/Ch’an Buddhist group in Colorado. Anyways, to get back on the toping of Journaling. As I’ve been exploring my inner self through meditative practices, I’ve found journaling more and more useful. I’ve also discovered practices such as Stoicism that have been very helpful too. This app seems to combine meditative breathing exercises, with Zen and Stoic philosophy and also to be great at guiding the individual to emotional well being. Thanks for making such a great app!.Version: 2021.9

Self-Guided Path to StoicismAn incredible app. The customization allotted to you for everyday morning and night questions allows one to use the app for whatever they are trying to improve on. This app is what helped me get started and enforce a healthy routine. Being in college, I always struggled to manage my own time, and nothing really worked - not planning apps, other journaling apps, etc. But this one really helped me find true motivation during my days and acceptance at night. I really think the app lives up to its title! I have two constructive criticisms of the app though, which I hope the developers could add in the future: 1. I wish the tab to view past journals, breathing, etc. allowed us to view our past entries in a more visually appealing way. The Year, Month and even Week views are fine, but the daily tab seems too congested. I kinda wish I could view my entries in a grid or make my entries smaller so I can see more at a time. 2. I wish I could pin or “star” some of what I think are my most important entries. That way I can go back to them quickly without having to search for them each time (the search is a great feature btw). Besides those two, incredible app. Huge thanks to the developers for the clear passion and care taken to create Stoic..Version: 2021.51

Love the app. Small piece of feedbackThis app is incredible. So much to love. And that’s why even given the following feedback, I’m still giving this app 5 stars. I have a gripe. It’s almost a dealbreaker. 😩When writing an entry, the little toolbar at the bottom of the editor (camera, photo, drawing options) begins covering the very text I’m trying to write, after I’ve written anything more than about 4 sentences. Additionally, I can’t scroll past it to reveal the text. The editor won’t let me scroll past the end of the view. It’s maddening. It makes it extremely hard for me to see what I’m writing. Frankly I’m surprised there isn’t more negative feedback over this. It may be because I’m using a new Apple device (iPhone 14 Pro Max). I don’t know. Regardless, if this doesn’t get cleared up soon, I will probably end up using a different app. 🥺.Version: 2022.54

This app helps a lot! This app offers many different breathing exercises for many different situations. Some exercises help with clearing your head and have you feeling very refreshed while other can increase your sleep quality and take off some stress. You can also choose to do guided or unguided meditation sessions with many different ambient sound and background noises. When you are put into stressful situations it triggers your bodies fight or flight response which is what makes your heart pound really fast or make your breath race in said situations. These breathing and meditation exercises however directly counteract that by bringing forth your parasympathetic nervous system aka your rest-and-digest system which helps bring relaxation to your body. More oxygen intake equals slowing your heart rate and your mind which results in you being more calm..Version: 2022.21

Game ChangerI’ve been using this app consistently for a month and my mood has overall all improved. Writing is very therapeutic. There’s plenty of prompts so it doesn’t get boring. I love that it only takes about 10 minutes out of your day to make such an improvement. It tracks your moods overtime. There’s a ton of cool data tracking features to nerd out about 🤓📈 If you can’t sleep there’s scientifically proven techniques to help you sleep and they work. Muscle meditation and sleep breathing exercises are helpful. You can draw you can add photos you took from the day. But my favorite part is the “stoic shield” where the app blocks you from using some of your other apps. As a college student who needs to get my homework done but would rather scroll through reels on Instagram or tik tok; this has helped TREMENDOUSLY..Version: 2023.50

So good I bought lifetime accessFirst app store review because this app is awesome! Simple, yet elegant UI that is easy to navigate. Acts as morning and evening journal, allowing me to align on my goals for the day and recap on how my day went afterwards. Helps me track my mindset, and what is affecting how I’m feeling each day. Also provides great quotes and affirmations that make me think deeply and reconsider how I look at things. There are two breathing meditation features I have just begun using that I also like, this app just does it all! I can do a guided or unguided meditation, or breathing exercises with a specific focus. I also like how all of my journals are private to my devices as it gives me more peace of mind. As I said in the title, I purchased the lifetime premium access as I can see myself using this resource in my daily routine forever!.Version: 2023.15

Amazingly intuitive! Wish I’d have found this a year ago!I can’t find a therapist due to having Medicare. None want to take new patients since the ACA was gutted, and they don’t have to anymore. Unfortunately for me, I went through some devastating events right at the time that I couldn’t get a therapist to see me. I really wish I had found this app 2 years ago. It’s incredibly intuitive, and it is really helping me to get my mental health and physical health back in check. I’ve tried about 10 other mental health apps, and none of them come close to what this app does. To whoever developed this amazing tool, thank you! I was honestly giving up before I found this app. I couldn’t keep just existing in the deep depression that I was in. I really think this app helped to save my life..Version: 2023.14

Calming, educational, and beautifulHighly recommend this application to anyone looking for solid morning and evening routine. Everyone knows what’s good to do right when you wake up or before you go to bed, but making it a habit can be hard. This app guide you through the process with thoughtful props, wisdom-based questions, and topics based on your day. Not only has it made me more efficient and productive, but it has made me more thoughtful and present simultaneously. From a guy who has tried to pick up the journaling habit consistently for years, and from the guy who always stop meditating would be cool but I just don’t have the time, I strongly recommend this app. I’ve had the premium version for about two weeks, and I think I’ll probably have it for the rest of my life..Version: 2022.29

Excellent, with Some Minor ThingsI’ve tried a lot of apps like Stoic. and it’s unquestionably the best, and the only one I’ve consistently stuck with. It’s simple but comprehensive and powerful. I love it, and use the iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch versions daily to very positive effect. My only critique is that sometimes the morning and evening question prompts will include questions that are very similar (“how do you plan to spend the rest of today?”, “what do you plan to do today?” in the morning) and/or outright repeat questions (often “what made you smile today?” in the evening). I suspect that I could avoid this by selecting/customizing my questions, but I like the sometimes unique questions that pop up and worry that if I don’t let the app decide, my experience with that feature of the app will stagnate. However, it is sometimes disruptive to the flow to have the same or similar question come up again..Version: 2021.4

The most customizable journaling appThis app is very customizable (mood, check-ins, quotes, prompts). With the recent update, you can even put in your own prompts and set up a series of questions/prompts for your morning and evening reflection. I love this app. It really makes you think about the things you do and I really love that. The creator asks the users what they want and really does a phenomenal job incorporating suggestions into updates. I'll forever be faithful to this app just for that reason alone. My biggest struggle with journaling is that I found it overwhelming, and this deterred me from actually sitting down and journaling. But the fact that this app is so customizable helps you remove your own personal barriers, so that you can journal easily (hope that makes sense lol).Version: 2023.14

More than happy to payThe subtleties of the app in a sense that it only brings up what’s needed for now/today is something I appreciate a lot. Mindfulness and philosophy in a digital era simplified. It doesn’t always make my mood better but it makes me aware. Being able to use the app on the iPad with the magic keyboard is also a pleasure that I’m appreciating. I couldn’t ask for anything more. Nothing to criticize…. If I’m to be pick I can say I would love pdf export option for when I want o print out reflections. I’m now on trial for the yearly subscription, but wanted to buy the full lifetime. I choosing not to buy the full year because because it’s a steal of a price and I want to keep using and paying for years to come so this app can exist. Thank you to the stoic. team..Version: 2022.21

StoicThis app is very helpful, I enjoy the reminders & try to apply the quotes & questions to everyday life. I am 46 year old MWF & consider myself on the path to becoming a “stoic” myself, I hope & pray that my life, & the way I live it,even though I know I am far from perfect, will encourage others or help others overcome their fears, anxieties, & insecurities & realize that we do make our own destiny because we have options & the abilities to choose them. Life can be difficult, if we think it is & if we change our own thoughts we change our own world. The key word is believe & our small minds sometimes don’t understand the depth of that word. Again, I hope my “beliefs”& “philosophies” help & encourage in the least my family & friends, how great it must be to be remembered & still helping people 500+/- years after life lived!!.Version: 4.1

Wonderful app for self careI have been truly grateful to have found this app, for journaling and reflection as well as education. They don’t pester you to be a premium member and most if not all (I am not sure) of the features are available to you. Please take the time for yourself, you won’t regret it. I waited far too long to begin my journey of self discovery, I was blinded by my obsession for the truth, and the need to go to any length to find that truth. I have known my entire life I had a purpose beyond my understanding, and it too shall be for me to only find when the time is right and God extends his aim and shows me the way. Praise to the most high, and the most low, to the balance of light and darkness, we cannot presume the existence of something is for nothing..Version: 2024.5

By far the best mental health appI am not one to leave reviews for apps but this is most definitely the best app you could download for yourself. It is a quick check in at morning, night time, and even throughout the day that allows you to look inward at how you feel in that moment and at certain occurrences throughout the day. There are guided journals and medidations as well as free writing journals that offer a judge free place to vent if need be. This app offers countless ways to ease anxiety and prepare you for obstacles thrown at you. This is a beautiful app that has given me such an appreciation for each day. It gives me a moment to stop and think about what has happened that day which is something I usually wouldn’t do. It truly is such a wonderful app..Version: 2022.1

Has truly helped with my mental healthThis app is the best app for mental health. It’s very relaxing and truly makes me feel calm and at ease. I love how the morning questions map out your day and how the evening questions help you reflect on the good and bad that happened during your day. As for the exercises themselves, they have helped with gratefulness, fears, and stress, and have really helped with my problems. The only problem I have is with the affirmation widget. I click on the add affirmation button on the widget and it just opens the app to the main screen. I really hope you guys can fix this as I really like the affirmation widget. Overall, I would totally recommend this app. I have recommended it to a couple of family members, and they all enjoy it as well. I just hope the affirmation widget gets fixed..Version: 2020.33

Helpful for apathy and feeling stuckI’m feeling a general lack of motivation and low-key depression, but wasn’t sure what to do about it. I was looking at some of the virtual therapist apps at first glance they looked pretty I structured. Instead I got this app on a recommendation from a friend and I’m glad I did. It encourages me to reflect on what my priorities are daily and make a better plan for how to meet them. I find it gentle and non-judgemental but is still increasing my focus and sense of accomplishment because I set priorities and meet them, even if they’re very small. It also helps me celebrate days where my explicit focus is to relax. Or see friends. Or just clean the house a bit. This app helps me see that as a valid goal I met rather than “wasting time”. Would recommend for people who like a structured reflective approach..Version: 2020.13

Worth it.All in all, this Stoic Journal has been very helpful for me. It’s helped me to control my anger - with the breathing and the thought exercises. I’ve been teaching these to my daughter who has seen anger modeled by me. It’s helped me to spot unhealthy thought patterns and shut them down. It’s given me the space to think about how my mind and body work together. I’ve also gained insight into myself with the trends. I’ve spotted patterns in my mood and fulfillment levels. I’ve been able to course correct. I’ve begun to build a ritual of starting and ending the day with this app. It’s honestly made my life better. Of course it is just a tool. It’s not magic. It’s just helped me to focus on my mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. It’s worth $40 a year. I paid $120 an hour to talk to a therapist..Version: 2020.8

IncredibleI downloaded this app because I was feeling especially down one day, and I didn’t even take it seriously. I just thought I’d use it for a few days to journal and then forget about it like the other apps. But then I actually opened it and used it and I kid you not, from that very next day there was a change in the way I thought about things and a change in me! It was crazy too because those questions that it asked me made me think so deeply, that the next day when I was about to go right back to that terrible habit of thinking everyone hates me, I stopped myself. I’ve been using it every day since and I love it. I’m so so glad I gave it a real chance too because the amount that you put into this is exactly the amount you get back..Version: 2020.22

Day BoostingI heard about Stoic when someone recommended the app to me. At first I was hesitant because a lot of these kinds of apps declare that they can do this or that and make your life magical again. But despite my reservations I downloaded it anyway. To my surprise, this app has been nothing but helpful and inspiring. I use it every morning and every evening reflecting on my day and starting my morning off with positive energy. In a time like ours, it is so easy to be pessimistic about...well everything! But when I use this app first thing in the morning it reminds me to remember the small things and focus on what we DO have, rather than what we DON’T. I would 100% recommend this to anyone who needed clarity and tranquility. Thank you for being such an amazing app!.Version: 2020.20

No more excuses.. The App you’ll actually use!Thoughtful features that encourage true reflection and connection with yourself in a multitude of ways. Beautifully designed, simple clean app without ads that allows me to fully engage and use the features without distractions. Excellent daily tool with the added convenience of always being at your finger tips on a device that follows you everywhere. Thank you for making this app!.Version: 3.8

Very good but flawedBeen using it for a few days now. I like the journaling, the daily quote, the whole feel of the app. However there is one HUGE flaw. The free version has a good deal of functionality. The pay version adds more, like being able to export your journal. I would be willing to pay for the full version. $5 or something like that. However this is rental software. You have to pay $5/month forever for that ability. Not an ongoing service. Not for more content. No, just for the same functions. And no they won't be improving the App. It is what it is. Is the 2.0 version going to be 50% more enlightened? No, it will be the same as the one I have now. THIS is the poster child for what is wrong with the rental software model. Pay forever, to keep what you have but get nothing new. I would have paid $5 for the app. But this attempted extortion might make me delete it instead..Version: 3.3

Great appGreat little app that does exactly what it sets out to do. Beautifully designed as well..Version: 3.3

Love the idea, don't love the priceI absolutely love the way this app is made. For people that like things very simple, minimial, aesthetic but also a bit detail orientated- this is exactly it. I 10/10 loved the app and highly considered purchasing it; however seeing how much the app costs compared to most, i decided against it. The things you can do on this app you can definitely do on others for much cheaper or even free, just without the appeal of the beauty and minimialism of this app. If they ever considered to lower hte cost yearly, even by a bit, I would without a doubt purchase it..Version: 2023.14

ObsessedI'm the sort of person that needs to journal, but I hate the stress of journalling in a physical notebook because what if I make a mistake or want to add another idea in? I love Stoic because I can now take my journal everywhere with me, the writing prompts encourage me to be more introspective, plus I can edit my entries! This has been the most consistent I've ever been when it comes to journalling, and I use it for everything from sorting out my feelings to planning out my day. My only complaints are that the "streak" is only counted if you engage with the daily prompts (I use the "blank page" feature the most) and that there are some issues with the Macbook version (breathing exercises frequently don't load, icons when creating new activities won't load, etc.).Version: 2023.37

Good, but…Good app. Really enjoying it but disappointed that the parts I’d really benefit from are not free. I don’t understand why apps list for free but then try to get you to pay once you e downloaded and try to actually use it..Version: 2022.9

I’m Impressed.I can’t afford therapy. So when i say i’ve tried every self help app, i mean, i’ve tried EVERY self help app. Nothing has made me actually feel truly better until i started using Stoic. It makes you work with yourself, by asking questions that make you really think. I’ve been using the app for a short period of time and i look forward to using it more..Version: 2022.2

This app is my favouriteI love the morning guided journal as well as the night time reflection, it has everything from Helping me with my adhd and so much more.Version: 2024.8

Love itGreat way to remind you to engage in regular stoic practice.Version: 1.7

Good company to CBT practicesStoic. has a user-friendly interface and takes you through Stoic philosophy at a comfortable pace, throwing in some CBT goodness along the way. With engaging exercises and progress tracking, it's like having a friend in your pocket, nudging you towards a more balanced mindset. The check-in reminders are helpful and provide me with an opportunity to take a break in my day and reframe my mindset. The library of jornal presets are very good and guide you through different ways of thinking. Some may see the cost as too high, but honestly this is not the most expensive subscription amongst other apps. Keep in mind this app is not a replacement for therapy, but it is a very good companion..Version: 2024.7

Good job guys. perfect topics.I love these new headlines that prepare you to write about something about your day. they work excellent and guide you proper.thanks guys..Version: 2024.7

This is the oneI've been through a lot for a 20 year old and this really helps and makes me feel good to use, i honestly love it.Version: 2024.6

Game ChangerStoic is fantastic - I can't reccomend it enough. The suggestions, guides, and tools are helping to form better habits, and keep track of everything. Plus it looks great, and there's plenty of widgets too..Version: 2024.4

Lifechanging in the most beautiful way. After being diagnosed with ADHD, I searched for the best apps to try and control my mind. Stoic. is clean, beautifully designed and just works. I have struggled to journal all my life, and I'm glad to have found Stoic. to be my journaling and mental health home, and help me build better habits..Version: 2024.4

Best appThis is the best journaling app with minimal design. Built in privacy settings and app lock. Does have th option to purchasee the app for liofetime, apart from subscribing. Sync works perfectly. There are some suggestions if you would consider them..Version: 2024.4

AmazingThis app is so amazing. I love it. As someone who overthinks but also loves to write, this is the perfect app for me. This is one of the most important apps on my phone. I would love if there were more interesting prompts to write about though there are still so many great ones. I recommend this for anyone and everyone..Version: 2024.4

GreatI have been wanting to journal. This app syncs to all my devices so I do not need to find a book to write in. The trend data is very helpful.Version: 2024.2

I love this app - make windows compatible pleaseI love this app and would love to be able to run it on my windows laptop so I can type and really get into the journaling from my laptop..Version: 2024.1

Organizational treatI love the prompts and i loved the end of year review and goal setting for the new year.Version: 2023.55

Possibly add sign ins?I accidentally deleted the app and lost all my journal entries. If there was a way to get them all back it would be great. Having sign ins would be very helpful with that. I love this app, it helps with my writing so much..Version: 2023.55

Best free version I could findI love the available free features. Very comprehensive and so nice! This is the first meditation app/journal that allows me to do pictures, offers so many free prompts and allows full basic functionality with minimal limitations. Additionally, their feature suggestion page lets you vote on requested features and tells you their status (considering, planning, in progress) which allows you to see if features you want are coming soon or vote on suggestions you would like. Love this way of doing things. The premium features look like they are amazing additions. Definitely going to upgrade and support when I can afford it..Version: 2023.50

Suggestion for improvementImagine bringing the immersion of journaling by hand into the app itself. I am a heavy user of the apple pencil, and I believe adding an option to write journals by hand (using a stylus like the apple pencil or samsung note pens) would enhance the immersion into stoicism. It would give us, the users, a chance to feel like we are writing on a piece of paper, allowing all the benefits of self improvement to be in one full app - including the medication guides. I can see this app’s potential, and I wish for it to remain as a tool to help fellow people to improve themselves..Version: 2023.51

10/10This app has been helping me practice reflecting on events, positive and negative, with the morning/night journey feature. Highly recommend if you are interested in working on your self awareness :).Version: 2023.48

You need this app!I’ve recently been trying to work on myself and keep myself accountable for things i need to complete and this app has helped me so much. you can customize it like no other app to fit your needs for example, you want to focus on productivity, well you can receive questions asking how productive you were that day. it gives you a bunch of options for things to work on, journal prompts, quotes, things to think about, etc. it’s honestly such a great app, it even has built in breathing exercises to follow, meditation guides, etc. i only used the free version for five days and bought the premium subscription as they also offer a student discount!!! what is not to love about this app!!!.Version: 2023.47

Amazing!I love this app! It’s really great to just write about what you are feeling. It also lets you keep track of your mood and stress levels. So far the best app that I’ve used. But one thing I would change is, I think there should be a feature where you can set a lock password for privacy..Version: 2023.45

Go to daily journal appLove the layout and variety Very useful and soothing Would recommend Free features satisfactory but able to upgrade too for even more.Version: 2023.38

This app is pretty good.I found this app 30 days ago. I was apprehensive at first but with time I eased into things. Before I knew it I found myself journaling everyday..Version: 2023.38

This is the journal you’re looking forThis journaling app is beautiful, minimalist and brilliantly designed. It provides simple, subtle and powerful prompts that help make journaling easy and accessible..Version: 2023.32

Excellent Journaling App!This is incredible! It is so aesthetic and functional and has great journal prompts. I use the free version and it is still incredible. 100% recommend to everybody..Version: 2023.31

Love this appNo cap this app is so great. So much to do and so much of it is free, it really is worth it.Version: 2023.31

Overpriced beyond all reasonThis is an amazing app, but why does it cost over $100 to keep for a lifetime? Seriously, that is completely insane and unreasonable..Version: 2023.31

Great AppWonderful journal with a lot of free options. I always feel great when I’m using it and I would heavily recommend it if you like to journal or even to document cute pictures of your day..Version: 2023.30

Genuinely wonderfulVery impressed with this app, you get a happy amount of activities and features on the free version so you can actually see the quality of the content. The UI/UX is also wonderful, very easy to use, it works with Apple Watch, it has a host of Home Screen widgets and Lock Screen widgets. Big fan, thank you developers <3.Version: 2023.26

Life changing app!I’ve been using Stoic for a while now and it’s been transformative for me. I got diagnosed with an Anxiety Disorder some months ago and Stoic helped me get back on track and helped me change my thought patterns (With the help of therapy of course). I’d recommend using the breathing exercises if you are experiencing stress and anxiety, it has helped me a lot! Thanks to the devs and long live Stoic!.Version: 2023.26

LOVE this appI NEVER write reviews for apps, but this is literally the self care app I have been searching for. I have tried a lot of self care apps, but none of them have really stuck. But I love this app. Other apps either have way too much, or not quite enough. But stoic is great! It’s simple and thought provoking prompts are amazing. I love that there are breathing exercises and journaling options. As well as a mood tracker! I like the morning and night prompts also. My only change would be to have more colour options😛 it’s worth getting the premium as the cost is quite reasonable compared to other monthly plans on other apps!.Version: 2023.22

Finally Found It!This is the app I had been trying to find in the App Store without knowing it actually existed, I am so glad to be able to record and understand myself better through patterns studied by Stoic. Thank you so very much for this amazing app and frequent updates..Version: 2023.22

LOOOOOVEeeBest app ever FOR REAL.Version: 2023.19

Decent for Millennials…I dislike the habit it creates of looking at my phone so much. But- For people who look to apps for validation, and are tethered to their devices? 👉🏻 Good questions/prompts - get repetitive. Many options to explore - journal prompts, (prefer pen on paper!)Mood check in, breathing exercises, quotes, meditations and mindfulness timer all included. *Would like the ability to add exercise manually. 💪🏻 Feels a bit discouraging seeing “zero fitness” time in the summary, when you workout, swim, cycle - and even meditate - UNplugged from Apple “Health”. Cancelled sub..Version: 2023.21

Nice I guessIt’s actually nice to write about your day and pick what influenced it. But I feel like a bit less should be a part of your membership. This is an app where people go to express themselves privately, not to be limited and forced to pay for things. Other than that, great app!.Version: 2023.19

It’s right up wit my calmLove it but needs to be easiyfor eve reflection when some go to bed daytime.Version: 2023.7

Initial impressions are good but…The set up is nice and seems well thought out, enough is not blocked behind subscription model to be a hindrance. However, it’s a bit telling that a feature like “SOS” for helping someone calm down in something extreme *is* locked behind a paywall. And the fact it also has a approximate death date counter that will hang around in the widgets and can’t be disabled or something. For some something like that is nice and comforting, for people like me it’s panic and anxiety inducing :(..Version: 2023.17

💖Journaling 💚It’s a really expensive way to journal but it’s a good way to journal as well I hope that I could make an app that would help people with their problems, and it be for free just because I worked on it doesn’t mean it should cost so much to help one another. Example Facebook doesn’t charge you a freakin dime to use their stuff and their coming out with new things for it everyday and updating it every single day while okay maybe not every single day but most times they are trying or doing something to make it easier for people who don’t have the resources for that stuff. 💜💜🖤💜🚨🚨🚨.Version: 2023.3

Love the design and overall features of the appI’ve journaled more consistently since I have had this app and it has been overall great. I don’t use many of the features but I appreciate that I have them and I can see myself using them at different points in my life. Thanks Stoic!.Version: 2023.2

Great app! This was the only app that actually got me into journaling. The mimalist interface is so nice. The propts and guidance for writing really help to get inspired and know how to start writing. Definitely a good thing for first timers too, like myself, who aren't sure where to start from. Very creative!.Version: 2022.70
