A Request to Elf Studios (hope you can read this!)Before I start, I would like to say that I absolutely love this app. The fact that a mobile application is capable of doing 90% of what a 500$+ drum machine can do is absolutely unbelievable. I can tell that care and love was put into the development of this amazing app. I love the community surrounding the app, and most importantly, the things I have been able to achieve thanks to this app. Koala has truly become a daily routine to my everyday life as I continue to learn how to produce and finger drum, and even if one day I decide to get an actual drum machine, I will still remember that this is where I started. I have basically had no problems while using this app with a very smooth ui and a pretty nifty set of features. However, I only run into one problem, which is my request. I would love to see a bpm detection feature added to the Samurai Edition, a feature that is capable of detecting the bpm of any sample that is dragged into a project, similar to popular daws such as Ableton. In my opinion, this will be a game changer for the app and practically replace the use of a DAW almost fully, and if not, work perfectly hand and hand with one. Again, thank you (the developers) for making this amazing app that allows me to better myself in beatmaking and further mark myself in the drum machine culture. Packs a mean punch for the priceThis is the best multisampler app I’ve tried so far on iOS by far. The features here rival those of some of the best hardware samplers with only a couple of minor limitations. You can sequence full tracks within the app pretty easily, the entire workflow from getting and manipulating samples to sequencing and exporting the song is pretty straightforward and the stems extraction feature is only seen in one other sampler I know of so far which is only available on pc/Mac so this is cutting edge sampling capability for a mobile software. As a producer/engineer that started his journey early 90’s on an Ensoniq Eps16+ I miss having the ability to quickly chop samples and build kits, I use GarageBand iOS for recording on the go but the main features missing fom GarageBand iOS are available by using this apps Auv3 version as a plugin or dumping sequences thru IAA and both methods work pretty well I must say. There are 2 main features I’d like to see added that would make it a more comprehensive sampler, those being the ability to layer sounds nondestructively (currently you have to resample) and the ability to map key zones for sampled instruments. There are a few other tweaks if I were to nitpick but I rated it 5 stars anyway because this app is beyond awesome for what it does and I’m sure feature improvements will be equally dazzling..GrndmstrdialloVersion: 1.4073

BrilliantAmazingly designed app. Incredibly fun and inspiring to work with. And the extra (very reasonably priced) add-ons greatly increase functionality. I’ve only had this app for a couple days and I already have multiple projects going. That said, I have run into multiple bugs during the short time that I’ve been playing around with this app, including one in which the audio can suddenly become incredibly loud and distorted. No fun if you’re wearing headphones.. Also, I have to deduct one star because I feel the the app could benefit from a couple basic features. As someone who works with a lot of ambient, drone-type samples, I believe the sample editor desperately needs some sort of loop crossfade functionality. Also, simple LP/HP filters would go a long way. All in all, a very powerful and fun app. Would highly recommend to anyone. Will update my review when the bugs are inevitably ironed out. The Best I’ve seen on IOS so far!First of all I’d like to say I hope you [The Developer] never sell out like some of these other music apps have. I can tell a lot of thought was put into making this App and I sincerely hope you continue to be successful and genuine on you’re journey! As far as the app itself I’d say it’s quite literally what I’ve been looking for all day. I’ve bounced back from app to app, even GarageBand and I gotta say this app is well worth it and I highly favor it now over the last couple things i’ve downloaded. The premium price is well worth what your getting and it even comes in parts. So your not paying for more than what you need. I’m happy to find there is no subscription. And there isn’t a million add-ons I need to buy every time I want ONE more single feature. It’s fair and well worth what your paying. I’m able to take files straight out of my iPhone, throw it into the app on some Pads, chop it up and create patterns straight off my phone with ease! Among a plethora of other things I haven’t even discovered yet. I really just wanted something I could use while on the go when I’m out’n about feeling inspired. IncredibleLegitimately one of the best apps ever made. Not just out of all music apps but in general. Where do I even begin explaining the genius of this app? It is an all-in-one solution allowing for unparalleled creativity and fun while making music. Koala sampler is intuitive, easy to use and wildly fun. Record and edit your own sounds, import samples, chop and mix them, apply effects and arrange them. I think the greatest strength of Koala is that it doesn’t overwhelm the user. It is more limited than a true DAW but that is a good thing. You won’t feel overwhelmed or unsure where to start. Creativity just flows. The final piece of the puzzle was recently added to truly set Koala apart from the bunch recently - the mixer. With the addition of the mixer and all of the effects, Koala Sampler is everything you need to make amazing music in one inexpensive, value package. Great app with one little fix neededI love using this app! It is very easy to use and use it on a good bit of my music projects. The one thing that I hope gets fixed is under the sequence part of the app. After you double tap one of your sequences to expand it to view each individual clip being used in the track you can move to anywhere in the track to listen align your clips up for smooth transition from one clip to another, buuuut when you do that the current clip that is playing you will lose sound on and then when the next clip kicks in the sound comes back and this makes it very tricky to get your transitions to align seamlessly and if your clips are long then you have to keep going back to the beginning and listen to almost the entire track again to hear if you aligned your clips correctly. Hope I explained that w/o it sounding tooo confusing haha. Again Love this app but please fix this if possible. Thanks again for developing a fun app!.?&)@Version: 1.4091

Sound Playground & Lots of potentialIt’s pretty fun to play with, I bought the premium upgrades and really like the many possibilities you can do in this sampler playground. I hope the developer will continue to work on it because it’s one of my favorite apps! :) Oh and hey developer, I think it would be cool if you could make it so we can color individual pads for organization sake; I think it would be awesome and would also make the app more personalize-able for the user! ;) also another thing that would be handy would be the ability to record midi without triggering pads. Also it would be awesome to make the app more friendly to audio interfaces, because I’ve tried to use my Focusrite Scarlett Solo to connect my guitar and microphone and it kinda works but it sounds wack. My favorite music making App hands down!Koala is so good for me because of two factors, being fun and being simple. I was hesitant and first to buy this app because over the years I have collected a large amount of computer software, instruments, and hardware samplers to make beats with. So for me I was like “why would I need this? I already have everything!” But my favorite beat maker posted a video using it so I gave it a try and wow. I loved it. koala was designed to be intuitive and easy to use but still very powerful. In a age of complicated, extremely powerful beat making computer programs and Phone apps. A lot of my time is spent just tweaking on small details to make my song “perfect” which takes away from the natural fun flow of making music. Koala gives that back to me. Is it worth the few $$$? My New SP-404 (and more)This app is incredible. It’s maybe my single favorite app ever (not just music). If you are proficient with an SP-404 you will love this app. It makes sample chopping such a pleasure. Beautiful, smooth, stable, precise - everything you could ever ask. So artfully laid out. The whole thing really is a work of art because of its beautiful simplicity and power. It embraces why people love the 404 despite its limitations and also embraces the iPad as an instrument. Thanks so much to the developer for this. The one thing it kills compared to the 404 is the sequences. Bravo on that. It’s such a fast workflow. I can’t even explain how efficient it is. You just have to get in there and use it. The effects are great on here but totally different than the 404. Good call on that too. You cannot do the 404 fx on an iPad. It wouldn’t work. This was a much smarter direction. (But if you nailed that vinyl sim, oh boy😳). The effects are really more like the pocket operator’s fx but more robust. The one thing I would ask (to speed up my personal workflow significantly) would be to have an “export current sample” option just like you can export the current loop only. I do so much sample chopping in here and sometimes have a whole mess of things all in one file and would love to be able to just export one sample at a time. Like a better, more fun PO-33 or SP-404This is far and away my favorite music app for iOS. I always keep coming back to it, paying for the Samurai update was a no-brainer. If you've ever used a teenage engineering PO-33 or a Roland SP-404 the workflow is very similar. That being said the speed with which you can do things in this app and the amount you can do blows me away. You can just use it as a sequenced sample player or, with the samurai update, you can now start turning your samples into proper synths in their own right (set em to loop and shorten the length a lot). The developer has done a really amazing job of keeping a good balance between quick music creation in the moment, while also providing enough detailed and smart additional tools so that you can tweak your sounds and beats to your heart's content - all without cluttering up the UI. Awesome and suggested updateThere isn’t a match for what this app does. Not gone bore you with details, just get it. Love everything it does already with the updates. Now what I would like to see as an update? Well I hate using outboard apps to consolidate other apps to run together on the same platform. I could imagine being on the Sequencer page of Koala and when pressing and holding an empty pad, a popup list with compatible AUV3 apps would be displayed for choosing and it would occupy that particular block with all the routings that a normal sample would do. So if your on the Sampler page, it would possess the eq’s and other routes that the sampler pads do. This would be monumental to me. Just putting it out there. Fantastic App and it keeps getting betterThis app is genius and could easily be priced at 10x the cost, so definitely buy it before they realize that and raise the price. It takes the workflow of a traditional sampler (SPs and MPCs) and mixes it with amazing UI to make an even better production workflow. Elf audio is continually making updates and improvements so it has only gotten better over time. There is a very active user community forming, only a matter of time before this app truly blows up. The simplicity of this app is what makes it so good and effective, if you are looking for a full featured DAW you will be disappointed. Deep but intuitive and funBrilliant app. Easy to pick up immediately- my 7 year old gets it. But has so many features and possibilities. Can’t wait to see what’s in store with further updates. What I hear when holding down note repeat on some samples vs what I hear when playing back the recorded sequence is different. I love the polyrhythms you can get when holding down two note repeats at once, but the recording doesn’t sound the same. Playback through CarPlay is really muffled sounding. The GAS cure!Thank you to the developer for creating this app. I have had it for a few years now and I truly am thankful because I don’t have all the money in the world. I have already purchased this phone. Being able to have a drum sampler (WITH STEMS) and sequencer for approximately $12 is mind blowing. If you are new to production, and you are thinking about getting a $400+ drum machine…consider this first. You can do EVERYTHING you need to start out and learn. You are also able to get Ableton Lite with this to mix down your tracks - if you need to mix on the computer. I cannot say it enough…get this app! It has cured my GAS! Amazing appHands down my favorite sampling app on any platform. I have hardware samplers that don’t have as many features and capabilities, and don’t get the level of support and updates from the developer as Koala Sample. The developer has thought everything through, making this app a great centerpiece for a sampler based workflow. The only thing that I would like to see is an option to record from USB when a compatible USB interface is connected. The app sees my interface and has USB options but the sample record feature does not list USB in the options, only mic, Re sample from app and import . It might be an oversight but hopefully they can add the option to record samples from USB in a future update..Chuckle.oneVersion: 1.4071

I’m obsessed with this appI’m relatively new to music production, but I’ve found this app to be very intuitive and useful. I’ve always wanted to get into sampling in a more serious way, and this app really scratches that itch. I own a PO-33 and, while I love it, this has essentially replaced it. The price is fantastic as well. While the app is incredible, the only real feature I would wish could be added is some kind of way to edit the timing of different samples in the loops that you have already recorded (in the same way midi can be edited after the fact). However, I understand that this may be a difficult (or impossible) feature to implement. I can see why this is the best Sampler outJust getting into iPad music production and this tool has been nothing but good to me , no matter what Daw I’m in ,and it functions so well with my Midi Keyboard .The only things I could hope come in an update someday is a auto detect / display for tempo of sample , makes it so much easier when working in a daw, and maybe just maybe if possible using Keys on the midi to adjust pitch wether that be octave or semitone for the selected pad / sample instead of having to always use a dial or setting up the same sample multiple times to get a different sound . but yea this is my go to sampler for the long haul hands down ! So great but there’s one bugI love this app so much. I’ve been using it for almost 2 years. I’ve created so many beats on, it’s so smooth and you can work anywhere at anytime it’s crazy. The only huge bug that really bothers me is sometimes when switching through your different saved projects or cropping a sample, it suddenly kicks me out the app. And when I go and open the app again, the project I was last working on is missing some or all the samples. Or even just completely deletes the whole project. But other than that it’s such a great sampler, it deserves its 5 stars regardless of the bug. InspiringThis app is unreal. Workflow is intuitive and effortless which leads naturally to inspiration and creativity. Works perfectly with other audio apps and mapping midi to a controller (especially a velocity sensitive one) makes this possibly the best sampler available on the market right now, hardware or software. When you compare prices as well then it makes it even more mind blowing. I’ve been chopping samples on lunch break, uploading them to google drive, coming home and importing them as a drum rack into Ableton like nothing. This is a giftBlown away. I got the iPad pro and paid for Beatmaker 3, Cubasis, Blocs wave… all looking for the perfect iPad music experience spending nearly $70…. And the whole time the answer was in a $5 app (+$4 for a totally worth it feature) The tutorials given by the developer Marek and I can he really is passionate and wants this to be an easy lite yet essential instrument mixing in old school to the new tech. There’s a lot of easy features to dive into and you can really take this thing far. Sort of like Pocket Operator but 10x better. I’m saying this only after 10 hours of purchasing this. LOVE THE APP BUT………I want to start off by saying.. I LOVE this App!! But… A list of things I would like to make this app even better. 1.) this one gets all caps MAKE THE RECORD/PLAY BUTTON BIGGER PLEASEEE!! ( I gotta try and use the tip of my pinky and it’s still to big for this button) lol and put it in every section meaning: Mixing area, including effects area of the mixer. Sample area etc. 2.) Allow a hold button for note repeat while in the grid or keyboard section. 3.) This one is not that big of a deal but.., It would be nice for send availability for any sound; of already made effects. Meaning: Let’s say Bus ABCD have effects, I could create a send for any sound and use those effects as well, without putting them on the bus. In closing.. Koala is ALMOST perfect.I love this app so much; the simplicity is the key to its success for sure. That being said, I am having a hard time coping with the fact that eventhough Koala is amazing it lacks MIDI out. I know many people use Koala as their “main engine”, but for me it’s like a sketch pad (from which I extract stems but mostly MIDI). I would love if one could “select” a midi channel for each pad (so that the midi from such pad is “exposed” to the user). Naturally, having 48 pads would mean you would have to share channels in between pads, but if one is allowed to “decide” what to export perhaps this wouldn’t be a big deal (to me it wouldn’t since although sometimes I do use more than 16 pads, generally this workflow I suggest would still save me a ton of time that I would otherwise spend exporting and importing files onto piano roll and stuff like that. Please do consider adding MIDI out functionality. It is seriously Koala’s biggest limitation. Creatively awesome!The amount of potential here is incredible, a well deserved 5 stars. My one bug critique is… when playing each sample to see how your sample sounds, there’s maybe a 3 second delay after the sample is played you hear a soft noise. I’ve tried to cut the tail off the samples thinking it was something I did during sampling, nope… it’s a glitch in the pads. It’s very strange. It’s about 10DB lower and occurs 3 or 4 seconds after the sample has played no matter the pad… it’s like a delay effect that’s buried very low with one repeat. Crazy Game Changer!!!This app is so dope! My workflow for making beats has gone through the roof with Koala. I love not only sampling and making beats but I get lost in the joy of sound design with the resampling and effects. The one thing I would like to see is being able to export full song arrangement stems after you record a song instead of just sequence loop stems. Plenty of ways to work around that with other apps but it would be nice to do it within the app. That’s not even a minus though just a wish list item. I truly love making music on this app!!! Happiness is Koala SamplerI’m in deep agreement with so many of the other reviews about the overall genius and fun of this app. Its design allows for such a fluid creative experience. Every time Marek adds a new feature I think “Wait, it can’t actually get better, can it?” And it does. Again and again. My latest euphoria is over the mixer effects with their unique graphics, something I’ve never seen anywhere else. The variety and playful inventiveness of visual patterns that emerge from tweaking some of these effects, patterns which are not only cool to look at but actually make complete sense as visual analogs to the sonic effects, are at once delightful and mesmerizing. And they sound awesome. The ability now to open old projects and move to the mixer to further develop and enrich the sounds is very exciting. Can’t say enough about the awesome music-creating environment Marek has given us all. If you don’t use it yet, you’re in for a super wonderful surprise. Love it!Fixed! Stereo recording! But now it doesn’t record st unity gain? Seems to be 6db down. Still clicks on recording start and now seems to have a slight gap at end. feature requests - !! Please oh please can there be a toggle for select on “play/ midi note”. It would be nice to be able to edit one sample at a time without having to stop playback. - snap to zero crossing. I have some samples that start with a click and or end with a click. - please allow for recording to snap to quantize? This could be a samarai feature. For recording loops especially. Love This Thing! One feature request! Okay, Two...I ❤️ Koala Sampler’s layout, features, and ease of use. My request is for landscape mode be made available for iPad. I use a Focusrite iPad dock and portrait mode isn’t practical in terms of workflow going from App to app. The second request is to be able to easily transfer songs & sample set-ups from iPhone to iPad. Maybe via iCloud? That way the iPhone can be used as a Field Sampler, & the iPad can be used, with it’s more ergonomically friendly size, for further song & soundscape production. For lo-fi headsI love this app. It’s like a nod to the SP-303 and PO-33 and I’m a big fan of both. It almost checks off all my wishes I had for a portable sampler. The workflow is smooth making it easy to use and bang out ideas quickly. I picked up an iRig 2 that works perfectly for sampling from any line out and it takes this app to the next level. It even has a 3.5 mm headphone jack that allows you to monitor your sample source and the Koala app while it’s plugged in. I feel like I underpaid for this app and I would gladly pay for extra features like a one shot option for samples, sample load and a simple step sequencer, but that doesn’t take away from how dope this app already is. I’d also like to see the ability to load tracks into the performance section to be able to do 303 style beat sets. Looking forward to future updates to this slick app. Edit: I’d like to see an update that allows copying a pattern or sample between one page/bank to the next. Awesome samplerI have only used it for about an hour but it’s very easy to get started and has a lot of power for an affordable app. I was looking for something like the old days. I could play a sound into the Emulator II where I worked and have a beat looped in seconds. I have a full on software sampler but you have to record in one program and drag files to it, assign a key range etc. which is precise but not creative. It records from the iPad mic but I was able to use a Rocksmith guitar cable into a Camera kit adapter to record line level samples with ease. Greatest Of All TimeThis is the easiest and most user-friendly beat making experience ever created in software form. Other platforms may offer similar features but fail to deliver them in an effective manner. Proper user-interface design is what makes Koala Sampler the greatest and most fun of all time, drawing in beat makers from the woodworks who needed something easy and affordable to get going. The Mac version is also great. Skinning your Koala Sampler is the icing on the cake as it animates your image of choice in the background. Goated Beat Making ToolI’ve been using Koala sampler for about 4 months or so and had quickly become my main tool for making beats and writing songs. Combined with my MC-101 and Novation Circuit and few samples, I can put together a sets worth material to perform in a matter of an hour. Outstanding developerThis guy rules. The developer shows a deep commitment to quality and a kind of dignity uncommon in the field. He cares, clearly, about doing as good a job as, within reason, he can. Improvements and corrections have come at a steady pace since release, and the product was very good on release. This while the price of this lovely sampling system remains within reach for beginners. You can’t ask for much more from a software developer. This one is among the elite on the platform. You should support this work and any other developer doing similar work if you care about things like user support, standing behind products, high quality at whatever the asking price may be, and success for developers who forgo greed, laziness, and deception. Best music tool I’ve ever usedThis is a special app. Not because it’s a capable sampler with resampling features (and a new synthesizer built in!). Not because it has very good sounding performance effects and a 4 track mixer. The reason this app is special is because the developers have put a LOT of time and thought into the workflow and user experience. Working in Koala is a very a very tight intuitive musical feedback loop and instantaneously you can hear the results of what you are doing. Amazing, please remove the subtle quantization when quantization is turned off.I love this app. I’ve been using it for a good while and I LOVE that you added a recording count-in and the piano roll over the last few updates. Keeps getting better! One thing I noticed recently is that even when quantization is turned off, there is still a bit of quantizing that goes on. Almost great (for iPhone)This review is for the iPhone version only. The GUI needs to be redesigned for the iPhone. Modifying the size of the interface while in the auto chop editing section to make it easier for editing. The GUI feels a bit cramped and leads to unwanted edits. Using some of the extra space to make the window a bit larger would be extremely useful. A small nitpick that could be implemented in future versions, allowing for sample import by default in the settings. Having to change that every time the app is opened isn’t a huge issue but would be welcomed. A big feature request is changing the pattern input to something similar as Garage Band’s step editor. That would make it easier to edit and create patterns than the current method. It’s a very good app and I’ll be happy to change my rating with a tweak or implementation of some of the features I requested. Get this app! PowerfulI love this app it has given me so much for so little. I have to be honest I sold some of my gear cuz money was low. Amazingly robust and accessibleKoala is such an amazing tool! Been using it for several months and it continues to improve. Good app but flawedI love the app. To me it’s one of the better Samplers out there. But I have some complaints.. or suggestions. We should have the ability to edit/fine tune our sequences to make sure everything is on time. There should also be a count down to record. Best musical app for iOSThis is the most user friendly sampler I’ve probably ever used. I’ve sampled lots of hits from my drum kit and some of my favorite synths from OP1 into this app and basically have a Pocket Operator on my phone now. Very pumped for these new effects! I haven’t tried it yet, but the ability to send data to Ableton live is pretty incredible for mobile composers or any musician who become easily inspired on the go. Really amazing workMy two favorite samplers have always been the Korg Electribe and the SP 404. Grooverider GR-16 nailed the electribe workflow but the App Store was lacking in a true SP inspired app until Koala showed up. It feels like really getting your hands dirty with audio in a way that few other apps do. It’s as simple as building collages with magazines and scissors but the depth is completely up to your imagination, and like the SP, you’re not shoehorned into any one way of working. Current Sequence MidiWhen I noticed the addition of “Current Sequence MIDI” as an export option I was ecstatic. This is the final piece of the puzzle. I haven’t been able to get the ableton drum rack to play back my sequences I made in the app. This is important to me because I like to resample individual sounds through an Akai 3000 XL. Koala Sampler Negative Reviews

Like a mini sp-404This is a very flexible app that allows you to chop samples and make songs. The controls are easy to learn. This would be a 5 star app if they improved the effects section. There isn’t really much ability to EQ the sounds so that’s a limitation. Recently the app has deleted four songs that were saved. The song name is saved but all the individual sounds deleted themselves. The app has also crashed quite a bit. However the app is less than $10. It lets you do way more than you’d expect. A positive thing is this app helped me learn how to sample, chop breaks, assemble my own breaks, make fun little songs. I’ve taught myself a lot with the help of this app and it’s increased my want to make music. I’m now saving up to buy an SP-404 so I can continue doing what I did with the app but with the real thing. Tried very hard with this appI’ve had koala and it worked amazingly for a long time. It chopped and meshed samples perfectly and I loved the intuitiveness of it all. Easily the best feature is the capability of using recorded videos from your camera roll to use as samples as well. Sadly, this app has been crashing like crazy. When I get a notification regarding full iCloud storage, or even trying to open a wav file using the app (for some reason it defaulted to koala) it would crash and clear my samples.
