Charterstone: Digital Edition Positive Reviews

Solid digital adaptationReally nice digital version of a solid worker placement legacy game. would be 5 stars if you had the option to create your own map from scratch for single games, but the campaign was fun to play through.Version: 1.2.8

Still buggy and unclear rulesOverall the game is fun, and is well designed. However there are still some serious gameplay bugs, such as when picking which minions to keep from the previous game it lets me pick from all players' minions instead of just my own. Also when determining which player had the most influence at the end of the game to decide on a new rule it has sometimes picked an AI player with lower influence than I had. The new rule introductions are also not always clear. For example, the rules don't really tell you what the sky islands do or what happens when you place one. This makes the game kind of frustrating at times..Version: 1.0.5

LOVE THIS GAME!For those unfamiliar, this game is BEST played as a 12 game campaign. It can certainly play as a stand-alone single game, but the full enjoyment (to me) comes from the campaign mode. More on this later... As far as the app, I’ve seen a lot of people complaining about it being buggy and crashing.. I bought this 4th of July weekend and haven’t encountered any bugs or crashing yet. I’ve played a full campaign (12 games) on my iPad mini and was delighted at how smooth it ran. There is a LOT of interactive info on your screen. As mentioned, I’ve been playing on a small tablet but would imagine it’s a bit cramped on a phone screen. Everything on the screen is interactive, but it will be a bit daunting if you’re a new player. They have a tutorial but there is a lot of nuance so I’d recommend reading the rulebook online somewhere. Reviewing the game itself, you can find tons of reviews on Amazon/BGG for the Charterstone Board game that will give you lots of info as to why this is such a great worker placement game. Fun little twists and rule additions throughout the campaign keeps things fresh and fun. The app is particularly great because, unlike playing IRL, the app takes care of all your bonuses. No more “aw man I forgot when I use the green charter I get an extra coin.” The app handles all bonuses and glory/capacity for you; it’s amazing!!!.Version: 1.1.0

No More Forever-Offerings to the Forever King! One of the qualms people have with legacy games, particularly Charterstone, is that you permanently alter the board and components. Even though there are Recharge Packs, it still doesn’t sit right with everyone. Luckily, the digital version is here! No more writing on cards or bending them permanently while you try to peel that sticker off. Get that legacy feel without making Forever-Markings for the Forever King. I haven’t experienced any bugs yet, although I’m only a few games into my first campaign. I highly recommend taking this route to start; jumping into a full map takes away the joy and discovery provided by Charterstone. It’s a great rendition of the physical game, presented in a clean batch of unabashed whimsy. Highly recommended over at Nerds on Earth..Version: 1.0.0

The Makings of Greatne— [Bug Report]Overall, great port of a game I really enjoy. It’s got some odd things about the UI but I’ve enjoyed it enough to play 11 games of a solo campaign in the 1.5 weeks since release. BUT it has a lot of bugs and feels like it needed to be much more thoroughly beta tested. My campaign is frozen because I maxed out all Glory on Game 11. I’ve had a one-off game freeze too. The patch lists show the devs are hard at work to fix it, but this game was not ready for a full launch. I’ve helped out with several beta tests, these things should have been caught and weren’t. I’ll gladly revise my review once they get the kinks worked out. There’s a lot of potential that is being wasted due to inadequate testing. I look forward to playing the finished product with friends. Hopefully they release multiplayer campaign mode too..Version: 1.0.3

Great game but some glaring rules problemsThis is a fantastic game. It is beautiful and the interface is very intuitive. The AI appears well done also. I would give it five stars but the campaign mode doesn’t follow the rules. Between game all of the players are keeping all their resources, cards, and minions. It is supposed to be a limited number that you can bring from game to game. I am currently starting my tenth game with 23 resources, 17 gold, 4 minions, and 8 cards. This makes the game way too easy. Also my persona should give me one point per type of resource I have but I am getting one point for every resource I have. These two things make a win very easy. Please fix these bugs and I would be happy to give this app the 5 it deserves..Version: 1.0.1

Nice port, but still some bugsOverall, I love the game and the digital edition. But there are a few niggling bugs. [SPOILER] I just finished the game where you roll the Charterstone when using a building in another player area and if either you or the owner of the building is rolled you each get a point. That definitely did not work correctly, as grey and I (red) got points when I rolled yellow, and at least three times I missed points when I did roll one of the correct colors. Would have been very confusing for a new player..Version: 1.0.4

Overall Great Implementation of CharterstoneOverall, great. Charterstone is a fun game and it can be hard to get real people together for a legacy campaign (especially now). The game is good but has a few faults. It can be hard to see exactly what buildings do (you can view from individual charters but this doesn’t seem intuitive). Also, game continually crashes at start of game 9 when I try to choose Coach persona (I am grey charter if this matters). Edit: Chose a different persona and the game loaded fine. Finished the local campaign and am now playing an online multiplayer campaign. At game 3 and going well so far..Version: 1.0.4

Great implementation of a great gameThis is a gorgeously realized version of the cardboard game, with nice UI, plenty of cute animations, and pretty seamless online multiplayer. There’s definitely a learning curve, but once you start to dig in there’s a very deep strategy game here, with lots of twists and turns as the campaign plays out. Nicely done. The digital format is great because it allows you to try the different charters to learn how they play out. Async is a great way to pass a long quarantine with friends, as long as people are patient. Definitely not a quick game.Version: 1.1.6

Excellent, a few bugsEnjoying the port so far but occasionally run into a freeze when computer plays some more complex actions. Hasn’t been to much of a problem, just restart and usually get past any problems. At least until this most recent one. I’m on the last game of campaign and the game is freezing on one of the computer players activation of technomage. Can’t get past this freeze up. I’m sure these bugs will be fixed, will be a perfect game after that. Also, is potion master supposed to award VP every turn?.Version: 1.0.0

Good game...some issuesQuality board game and made with panache, but sadly it was stuck midcampaign, where the same game is being played over and over again (where you have to clear perils for the king). Not sure why it stopped advancing but i did manage through repeated plays to advance so perhaps it was a temporary bug or due to some edge case in the outcome of my first attempts to play. I did finish the campaign. Enjoyed it a good deal. I would recommend wholeheartedly except for the concern of bugs that can halt progress inexplicably..Version: 1.1.2

Shows potentialI keep getting soft locks in single player campaign. The game stops on an ai turn and won't continue, and start over doesn't even work. When it does work new game mechanics seem to have no explanation available. I eventually figured out how peril worked, but I couldn't find it in the help. But I see a lot of potential once the bugs are ironed out..Version: 1.0.2

Great Game some work neededOverall love this digital version. The look and feel of the game is spot on with what I would want. I especially like the sounds and music. Graphics are simple with just enough motion to look like a living village. The game still has some issues, may need to restart from time to time but nothing terrible. Just needs a little more polish to be perfect..Version: 1.0.7

Will rate 5 stars when bugs fixedThis app is true to the board game and almost everything you could want from a digital version--Little animations, smooth transitions, satisfying die rolls etc. It also has the negative things you might expect from an app--bugs! I was able to finish a local game but am stuck on the first turn of an online game... I entered my charter name then a day later it said it was my turn but i cant do anything. I tried naming again and it crashed.Version: 1.0.4

Edge caseAdvancement pile and mat are empty and it wants me to choose a card (another player triggered a robot in my charter) and won’t let me finish my turn until I pick a card, which I can’t. iPad version now makes it to 100% instead of hanging at 1%, but then crashes. Love this game and look forward to it being polished more. Great music and animation..Version: 1.0.1

All the fun of the originalI am a massive fan of the original and feel this scratches the itch perfectly. It is only slightly less satisfying to beat the computer by a point than to beat real life friends in the same way...and equally frustrating to lose close. Four local rounds in, no bugs or issues..Version: 1.0.0

Enjoyable solo play, very cute graphicsI’ve really enjoyed playing Charterstone. The tutorial does an okay job but I do feel like some things get left out of the explanations. I’m not one for playing online much and I found the AI to be a fun opponent. I’m looking forward to starting a new campaign and seeing what new strategies pop up..Version: 1.1.0

Bugs < QualityYeah, there are a few bugs but there’s been a lot of updates recently which shows their dedication to getting it right. This is probably my favorite digital game, the graphics, sound, and animations are perfect IMO. Keep up the hard work!.Version: 1.0.8

A Really Good implementationBug fixes have been discovered since release and many have been fixed. As a small indie developer, Acram does really great work and Charterstone is no exception. I’m sure additional updates will come, but as is the app is a pretty darn good implementation of the physical edition..Version: 1.0.8

Excellent Recreation!Been excited for this one and am just starting out after enjoying the board game. So far it looks like a very faithful recreation with the exact feel I expected from this game, down to the music. Looking forward to more games locally - and online!.Version: 1.0.0

Enjoy the journeyI had never played the physical game, so this was all new to me. I enjoy the developing story and the on going game with my game night bro’s. I learn by watching and my experience has been so fun. I learn every turn and genuinely enjoy coming back for my turns. Thanks!.Version: 1.1.2

Great gamePlayed a full campaign with zero bugs on my iPhone 11. It *seems* if you have an older iOS device you may run into problems. I suspect this may have something to do with certain SDK elements not present in older iOS systems..Version: 1.1.3

Very good digital optionPlayed the hard copy years ago (which made playing this game a lot easier). Picked this up as a good way to play again. Haven’t had crashing issues so far. *touch wood*.Version: 1.0.7

GlitchyI was halfway through a campaign with 5 AI opponents but it’s now pausing on actions. It will not let the AI continue their turn. I’ve tried to restart the app a few times but have had no luck. Up until this happened I was enjoying the app. It’s a decent game and a smooth port for it. Would love some help to continue the campaign!.Version: 1.0.0

BugsMy campaign is locked because I can’t pay for an action. Basically i am halfway through paying to build a building, but cannot finish action or restart turn. Restarting does not help..Version: 1.0.3

Great game, too buggySo I enjoy the game a lot, but the bugs are bad. I ended up losing an online game I was playing (as in we couldn’t move from a spot at the end so we just deleted and did a new game), and right now one of my local games isn’t loading. It’s fun, but the bugs need to be worked out.Version: 1.0.3

Game 9 won’t startHaven’t had any problems until starting game 9 I am stuck on the load screen. Was excited to see the patch but it still won’t load my game 9. Only problem I have had so far. Love this game..Version: 1.0.4

Tutorial is pretty poorIf you’re a new player you’re going to need to watch some videos. There’s a pastiche tutorial that explains how to use various functions, but no guide for why you might do it, any sense of strategy or any easy way to go back without just reading the rules..Version: 1.0.1

Great gameGreat game thanks for bringing this digital as I loved the board game!! You have also been fast to respond on FB to what’s going on and getting bugs fixed!! Thank you!!!.Version: 1.0.1

Feels just like the board game! They did a great job. The animations are great. AI even on easy is quite challenging if you’re new to the game. Opening crates is so satisfying.Version: 1.0.0

FantasticThis game is very fun. Up there with Through the Ages and Terraforming Mars. The campaign bugs have been solved so it works perfectly now. Very enjoyable..Version: 1.1.2

Game-breaking bugI enjoyed the game but I’m seven games into a twelve-game campaign and encountered a game-breaking bug - specifically, the game told me I could place my robot minion on an objective scoring space, which I did, thinking the placement of the robot would let me take the Friend card I needed for the objective - no dice. So I tried “Undo” - no dice - keeps telling me to select the objective I want to score - there is no such possible objective. So I consider that several hours of game play down the drain (winners aren’t determined until after the twelfth game) and am reluctant to start again in case I encounter another game-breaking bug. Can’t believe how many are listed on the Version History and clearly they haven’t caught them all..Version: 1.0.6

Great!Game is fantastic and works perfectly..Version: 1.1.0

Single player works greatI won't claim that the bugs have all been squashed as I didn't play online, though the single player campaign worked well. Some cards and actions weren't as obvious as they could have been, though that's livable. The AI was also a bit weak. Mostly, I'm just unimpressed with the campaign itself and would rather had a port of Euphoria. Not an issue with this port, but with the IP and the choice to use it..Version: 1.1.2

All fixed! Great game!Excellent job by the creators! In less than one week they improved the game and now this is one of the best board game digital version out there! Highly recommended!.Version: 1.0.3

No problem whatsover on my IPad Pro 1rst genEverything works flawlessly, very high quality, a must buy even more for board game owner, very expandable... I tied only the campaign mode and works great all along until end of the first game of 12. Thanks so much... now if only Pandemic Legacy could do the same... in fact all legacy board game must have an twin electropic version of the game and give the key with the real game... it is a perfect marketing match..Version: 1.0.0

Great version of a great game, still has stability issues**Update** For me the game breaks down on the 6th game of the campaign. Twice in a row now. I’m playing alone with 5 AIs. At some point, one of them just stops playing and there’s nothing I can do to continue... please fix. Original: I’ve been playing on iPhone, the game works great. It is identical to the boardgame. There are still some stability issues and bugs to be resolved..Version: 1.0.0

Will be good once stability fixedCrashes not infrequently..Version: 1.0.0

Can’t wait to play...Looks amazing. Not having crash issues but... I have no idea what I’m doing. The tutorial needs a lot of work. Put a guy on the board, gain a wood! Now play. No idea why I need wood, what the symbols mean, how to get points, how the game ends... I’m gonna go watch Rodney, cuz this tutorial gave me nothing..Version: 1.0.0
