Savvy Navvy Boating Navigation App Comments & Reviews
Savvy Navvy Boating Navigation Positive Reviews
Great AppThe first time I used this app was on a trip to key west and our first time boating there. The app was extremely accurate and provided great detail. It even showed some sunken boats in the area that were very small but great for snorkeling. When I showed the map to the man at the boat rental company and asked him what he could tell us about these boats He asked me what app that was as he had never seen one with such great detail and didn’t know of 4 of the 6 boats listed. We snorkeled 3 of them and reported back to him how great they were so he could recommend them to future customers. This summer I will be using the app in The Thousand Islands Region of NY. Great APP.Version: 1.1.76
Lake fidelityI recently rented a boat and was looking for digital charts to show me places to avoid. I didn’t want to take a chance at damaging the rental and having to pay for repairs. I found these charts to be lacking in the detail that I was looking for in the lake that I was using. I can’t speak for other lakes or offshore waterways. I tried the trail maps but quickly decided that the application didn’t fit my needs. I canceled the trial and deleted my account. I found that I was still charged for a subscription that I didn’t intend to start. I found a few dead ends while initially trying to resolve the issue of being charged. I was then contacted by Savvy Navvy’s customer support. The issue was quickly resolved and a refund was issued immediately. I have to say, I’m very happy with the customer support and communication. I was also informed that they are working to add more lakes to their database. When I purchase a boat, I will check back for updates..Version: 2.2.17579
What a great start! Obviously designed by sailorsThis is the first sailing app I’ve used that works to answer the most important questions I have as we sail: what is the current doing? Can I point to get there or will I have to tack? Well worth the price of subscription. And more importantly, it doesn’t show extraneous information and map features that clutter up other navigation apps. This adds to convenience, but most importantly SAFETY when a split-second decision is needed and your plotter is the key source of information. Finally it is a beautiful presentation. Our boat is beautiful, and Savvy Navvy fits right in. Other chart plotters look like the product manager’s kid chose the icons and colors. All the features I might want aren’t here yet, but I appreciate how the company is being careful about adding what is essential, vs. throwing the kitchen sink at the product..Version: 1.1.18
My goto app when on the oceanFew improvement requests that would help a lot: 1. Allow way to pause rerouting every time you move a waypoint. Often times, I move the waypoint a couple times or I want to tweak several waypoints at the same time. The auto rerouting feature slows the process and wastes cpu time. 2. Allow way to re-sequence waypoints within a route 3. Eliminate or allow feature selection to only add waypoints with click and hold instead of momentary taps. So many waypoints get erroneously added to a route simply because I’m panning around and it thinks I’m tapping. 4. Allow way to re-sequence saved routes and waypoints in their respective lists. 5. Allow way to click on a leg of a plotted route to get key info such as course, speed, and expected sea conditions including currents, wind speed and direction, and wave heights. Scrolling through route preview is almost useless on a long route. Thanks for considering..Version: 2.2.16047
A boater’s best friendI began planning a trip from Seattle to Ketchikan, Alaska when I discovered this app. In conjunction with an anthology of anchorage sites, I have preselected multiple anchorages, set the correct way points, and plotted the entire route. Charts are current and tide/weather conditions can be had as we drop lines and head north, allowing us to navigate safely. Saving routes and waypoints gives us flexibility to tailor our route as we go. Big high 5 for the developers..Version: 2.2.11779
Savy Navy ReviewOverall, this is a very good program, and I use it all the time. A few improvements that I would like to see are: Make the water depth markings darker, so I can easily see them For a long time the wind direction was so heavy. It hid all the navigation information. Fortunately, this was corrected. The tide information is not always accurate one time it was saying high tide is low tide. I will get with you to have this corrected next time I see it..Version: 2.2.9162
Love this ApWe do most of our boating in the Florida Keys in very shallow water. We have an excellent large screen Garmin - but Savy Naviy is our go-to! Plenty of cell sigma in the Keys so it’s easy. I love the point to point feature with the sectional navigation. And the distance rings. So easy to use. I’ve turned several captains in the area on to it too. We are very happy with it. Been boating for 37 years going back to LORAN navigation, Savy Navy is definitely our ‘go to’..Version: 1.1.113
Lake MichiganI have been using Savvy Navvy for 2 seasons now, and it has been a great tool while navigating Lake Michigan. Having completed 2 10-day trips on both the Wisconsin and Michigan sides of the lake, I have full confidence in Savvy Navvy. Very easy to navigate the site, and a great compliment to my onboard systems. Should anything go sideways with my onboard navigation system, I would be perfectly comfortable using Savvy Navvy to safely get me to port. Thanks, Bill C.Version: 2.2.8854
It is a wow!I am heading to the BVI and learned that iNAVX did not have BVI maps. I found Savvy Navvy…thank goodness. Very intuitive. Very powerful. It brings navigation, weather and routing together. I’m totally impressed. Their marketing line is something on the order of “Google Maps for marine navigation.” I would say that is accurate and a brilliant marketing description. And on top of everything else, great support from IVO..Version: 2.1.242
One improvementI love this app, but would make one improvement. I would like to see available routes four boats with no motor power. If there is weak wind the app says no route available, but it would be great to see a course, No matter how inefficient. For example if staying at anchor for 18 hours until the wind changes is the only possibility, it would be nice for the app to say that.Version: 1.0.104
Best route planner out there!!If you want an all sailing in passage, wind and tide planner Savvy Navvy does a great job putting it all together!! Its easy to use, intuitive and works great on my iPhone. Depending on the route, it can take awhile to process a course but the results makes this worthwhile. Its features include useful information on on marinas which can be added as a way point!.Version: 2.2.11474
Good for what it doesCharts are good. However, it would be really useful to have more chart options (safety depth, show/hide soundings, etc.). Would be handy to have more helpful routing features like only daytime sailing (find anchorage at night), being able to save routes and possibly reroute based on current weather. NMEA interface would be great also. This is a great start but needs more features before it could rank as my main navigation app..Version: 1.1.73
Quick And EasyAlthough I use the standard array of trawler navigation gear, it is comfortable to have this software in my iPad for referencing location, currents encountered and tides. While one is at the helm, it is super easy to do research on running conditions at a glance. Good product, not intended for full navigation purposes though, with deep draft boats. The trusty charts make a very good partnership..Version: 1.1.118
Perfect ComplimentWe’re on Lake Michigan, Wisconsin side. We’re newer to sailing the Great Lakes so I was interested in trying several different navigation apps. We decided on Savvy Navvy for several reasons. The SN team is responsive ! In the handful of times I’ve communicated with them, particularly Ivo, he dove right in and addressed my questions while treating me as an equal. I’ve compared SN app results with other apps and other sailors apps. SN is on point. Lastly, I just simply like the look and feel of the screen. Especially Preview mode: it is a very nice perspective to you position. 2024 we’ll be living aboard in season. Savvy Navvy will be our go to navigation..Version: 2.2.7741
Thumbs up Savvy NavvyI used Savvy Navvy as a 2 week free trial during a recent power boating trip covering about 300 miles. I have since made this trial permanent because it provided so much valuable information related to safe routes, course mileage, fuel needs as well as weather conditions. Savvy Navvy is also a great as a secondary chart plotter. 5 stars from Boston MA.Version: 2.2.13118
Close to perfect!I stumbled upon this when another app i was using was waaay off base with our arrival time and i lost all confidence in it’s accuracy. Hasn’t happened with Savvy Navvy. I love that it’s easy to use, and even gives wave height predictions at different segments. We connect it to our garmin and have it displayed while underway. Love, love, love it. Lori P..Version: 2.2.6371
Saavy NavySaavy Navy is a great navigation tool. We live on the Caloosahatchee River and often take day trips on the Intercoastal waterway. This app makes it easy to navigate to precise destinations and find loc’s to gas up on the water. This app makes this Captain looks like an expert! I would highly recommend this app to boaters of any experience level 5 Stars!.Version: 2.2.9385
Looks beautifulIt looks like a beautiful app. Excited to try it since Navionics is so buggy. However, it doesn’t have depths for a LOTTT of places, which is the main reason I want the app. Really only seems to have depths for coastal areas so far. I think the interface is very nice, but for me it was unhelpful at this point in the game. I’ll try again in a year or so. Hopefully yall are updated a little more by then..Version: 2.2.12436
Excellent App for navigatingIts like google maps but for boats. Very reliable for weather and depth. I always use it to plan far trips. Tells you approximate time to get there and how much gas needed (based on your boat engine data in your account and your cruising speed. Overall great application.Version: 2.2.9008
Savvy navvyI have only had the app for a couple of weeks but so far it has been very user friendly. It seems to be much easier to use than other apps I have and gives me all the information I need..Version: 1.1.101
Best Boating Chart AppGreat app for a back up chart navigation. Very easy to use. Love that it has both a desktop and Mobil versions that are compatible with each other. Would give it 5 stars if the routes could be downloaded to my Simrad on my boat. Also would like to see longer weather and wave hight projections for trip planning..Version: 2.2.12028
Great UI, but requires re-login too frequentlyAnd always when out of cell service. This is an annoying and potentially dangerous quirk. There were a few times testing out this free trial that I had to jump to Navionix which I thankfully kept as a backup just because I didn’t have service and I was stuck on a login screen I couldn’t get past..Version: 1.1.27
PotentialI like the layout of the app and I would certainly become a subscriber. It needs to have Storm Thurmond lake information added and I would like to see a cheaper membership alternative. Paying $100yr for all the charts ill never use because i just want to sail my local lakes seems excessive..Version: 2.2.12169
Use it every dayAmazing planning app like no other. We use instead of Navionics app as it has so much more for so much less. Just wish we could more easily import routes to our plotter (Wi-Fi vs email plus thumb drive)..Version: 2.2.7279
Course cuts BouysIm new at this software, my boats draft is 5 feet, but after forty three years of boating, I don’t cut bouys , following proper navigation , keeps you out of trouble. It seems this program, ignores Right Red Returning, etc. that’s what gets boater in trouble , especially when your in new areas. If your company has a way to correct this , please tell me..Version: 2.2.13379
Works with GapsWas very handy when cruising up the ICW when the older plotter lost the ICW track. Only problem was that it seemed that the track would disappear for miles through sections of Georgia and South Carolina, usually when the guidance was most needed. That was quite frustrating!.Version: 2.2.11779
Used it for trip to Catalina IslandMy nav on the boat was malfunctioning and I had a trip the next day to Catalina Island from Newport Beach. I downloaded the app and used it the next day. It was perfect. Saved me from buying a new nav system. Highly recommend..Version: 1.1.101
Almost perfectThis app would have everything I need out on the water if it had a radar overlay and a way to save past waypoints that show on the map. Also, the app fails to load even with full cell service sometimes..Version: 1.1.136
Gold Coast mapsOnly been using it for a few months and it is very accurate, easy to program. Highly recommend it..Version: 2.2.9563
Must have for sailorI’m new at this so don’t think I can do justice to the value but it looks like prog tells everything one may need to know. Especially like mooring locations with comments..Version: 2.2.12554
Savvy navvy was perfect for my summer boatingSavvy navvy was perfect for my summer boating, easy to use, reasonable cost. I wish i'd had it on an iPad/tablet instead of my phone -- hard to see on my phone while bouncing across the waves.Version: 2.2.13192
Marine navigation made easyThis is my go-to navigation app when on the water. The program is intuitive and well designed. Easy to learn..Version: 1.1.118
RAD NAV APPI use Savvy Navvy daily for all my inshore fishing here in south Texas. Great for current conditions, including tides and wind direction. It’s like Google maps for boaters. Plan routes, mark your fishing spots and return to the dock in one piece. Every time! Great App 5 stars..Version: 2.1.242
Some nice features but very basic nav infoBased of Navionics this doesn’t compare. Navionics has updating soundings, colored sonar deaths, does have an auto piloting system, very detailed chart info with active captain and many more options. Mainly the only cool thing is the description for each waypoint and the easy of plotting..Version: 1.1.80
Great NavWe have a jet ski and have had great luck using this app for navigation. Excellent graphics showing channel markers, depth, and much more. Enjoy the reverse route feature, have not gotten lost yet!.Version: 2.1.242
New boaterI am a new boater in Tampa Bay. The app has been very helpful in navigating the bay. With the weather information, wind speeds, direction, etc, and the added tide charts, I feel pretty informed and safe about my trip on the water..Version: 1.1.133
Very good toolWe are back to boating after many years away. We found this app and it has been amazingly helpful..Version: 2.1.224
Version: 2.2.15135
In progressI signed up for the free 2 week trial, loved the interface and useability. For a power boater the explore plan is nice and comparable to navionics. I upgraded the trial to the elite hoping the addition of currents would provide better time calculations. Once up graded the app told me the route was too long and couldn’t calculate (42 NM). Also the currents were not available in my area. No point upgrading to elite in the Pacific Northwest. The explore package is nice that the wind data is overplayed on the chart and weather updated at each point on the route. For now I think I will stick with Navionics because it is cheaper and look at Windy too. I will continue watch this app, if the can incorporate currents into the route calculations I think it would be worth every penny!.Version: 1.1.80
Trial without purchaseI was hoping to trail the app before actually signing up but it seems I need to sign up first in order to get a free trail. That’s a bit irritating. It would be nice to see the maps and functionality before I give my personal information..Version: 1.1.76
Great app…when it worksThe app is easy to use and I love it…when it works. I wouldn’t pay for the app because it crashes constantly (I have an iPhone 15) so not reliable. I can’t trust the app will stay on! Thus morning I have been 35 min trying to get app to stay on without crashing. Frustrating, good thing I am not relying on this app to navigate!.Version: 2.2.21790
Bravo!.Version: 2.2.9008
Fishing contoursI fish But never see detailed for fishing.Version: 2.2.12931
Seems okay so far , just needs more dataNeeds more data , for lakes in Ontario , especially lake Simcoe which is one of the biggest lakes in Ontario with many boaters and one of the most beautiful marinas ( Friday harbour ), would love to use the app in lake simcoe , so currently I am unable , currently deciding between this app and Wavve app. I like the features more on savvy but I feel like Wavve has more maps currently in Ontario , so please savvy, step up your game in Ontario !.Version: 1.1.162
Terrific supportThey are wonderful todeal with.Version: 2.2.9008
Waypoint points of interest and tracksHappy so far with the app. Cheaper than buying a chart plotter for the expected time I might have a boat. I was wondering if you can add waypoints for points of interest vs just to plot a route? And why don’t my saved tracks stay on my screen so I can easily follow a previous route?.Version: 2.2.7916
Looks pretty good so far, the true test will be when i get on the water with it.So far so good!.Version: 1.1.136
ReviewGood app.Version: 1.1.84
