Dune: Imperium Positive Reviews

Fabulous Game, Excellent Gameplay and True to Dune UniverseI love this game and cannot stop playing! First though I have to admit off the top that at the start I had some real problems getting the hang of this game. It is complicated even for seasoned gamers, and the tutorials only teach you a fraction of the gameplay, and the instructions are only for the physical board game version. There is a *steep* learning curve. But despite that, I was drawn in by how the game captures so much of and immerses you so deeply in the Dune universe, and so I was compelled to play more. By the fifth time I played (losing *badly* each time even on easiest setting) things started to click and it made a lot more sense to me. And now I am 💯 a huge fan. It’s complex enough to allow varied gameplay and strategy without being just too overwhelmingly much to keep track of. The pacing is excellent. The balance of players and cards and abilities is just right. My only ask is that, when AI players make moves, it goes by so quickly and the cards flash by so fast that you can’t appreciate what they’ve done, so you don’t know what other cards do and more importantly you can’t give their moves enough attention to think about what their strategy might be. I would LOVE LOVE LOVE expansions for “Rise of Ix” and “Immortality,” and for “Imperium: Uprising”—PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE release more! I’ve loved Dune Imperium so much I’ve even gone out and bought the physical games. This is by far one of the best board-game-adapted-for-iOS I’ve ever played, and I’ve played a lot..Version: 1.5.1

Great Game, Great UI, Great Dev SupportPicked up Dune: Imperium for my phone a few weekends ago, having heard great things about the board game. And wow, does this game absolutely deserves the accolades it has received. First, the game itself is a perfect of a blend of tactics (adapt to your hand and the opponent’s worker placement), strategy (plan multiple turns ahead due to limited moves and resources), and luck mitigation (build your deck to accommodate your play style). Then, variable point system places all the elements of the game on even footing: you gain points from deck building, worker placement, and the conflict system. What seems like an easy-to-learn victory path blossoms into a complex web of options. The system is utterly brilliant. Then you throw in the static 26 (!) challenges that drastically modify the gameplay… the rotating skirmish gameplay features which do the same… and the promise to release Rise of Ix midsummer, which is believable after a short early access period… This game has dev supported variety coming out its ears! Finally if you’re worried about the UI on a phone, don’t be. I’ve played over 30 games on my phone at this point. The UI is seamless on a small screen. This app is completely worth your $12. It is mobile board gaming at its finest. Great mechanics, great variety, great UI, great support. I can’t wait for Rise of Ix..Version: 1.4.0

AI cheatsI love this game but whenever Helena Richese is one of my AI opponents suddenly cards in my hand don’t math like they are supposed to. For instance, “carryall” is supposed to give you *double* the base amount of spice but every time I play the card while she is one of the opponents I only get the base amount and sometimes not even that. This can completely screw up future turn strategies. On that same note, Helena has also been able to get multiple cards at a much bigger discount than her character ability states with currency she doesn’t have so by late game she is able to be far more overpowered than what anyone else can generate. I don’t have this issue when playing the physical game or against any other AI opponent so I just opt out if she is auto selected. Amazing game otherwise..Version: 3.3.1

No pass and play?I already own this on steam and I just spent $21 on this for my iPad so I could play with my wife only, there is no pass and play. Why?? I feel like it would be the easiest thing in the world to take your turn, hit done which would hide all your cards, hand it to the next person, who would tap a button to start their turn. Doesn’t seem like a hard implementation…. That said, I do love the game itself which is why I gave 3 stars, but I’m dumbfounded as to why they wouldn’t have this feature. For steam I can fully understand why they wouldn’t have it. But this is an iPad! Just as easy to hide a screen as a hand of cards!.Version: 2.1

Great Digital Version of a Modern Classic!Dune: Imperium is a modern classic in the world of board games and this digital implementation is excellent. There are a few bug issues that need ironing out but nothing game breaking or issues that can’t be fixed in the coming days or weeks. The UI is intuitive and the sound and visual effects really elevate the experience. Fun to play with friends online and really hits the board gaming itch in a pinch or right before bed. Dire Wold Digital continues to produce great digital board games and I hope they continue to in the future because so far I haven’t played a game produced by them that isn’t anything but amazing..Version: 1.3

Amazing game, convinced me to buy the tabletop versionI love when board games get released on iPad. I have bought as many as I see on here, and 25% of the time it leads to me buying the tabletop. After playing this a few times, buying the board game was a no-brainer. It’s excellent. I actually got Dune Imperium Uprising, since it is the same game but seems to have more features. I will be playing it tonight with family and friends for the first time, and thanks to this app, I am confident I can teach the rules and gameplay to them in no time!.Version: 1.5.1

My favorite boardgame implementation on the iPadI’m running this on an iPad Pro 11-inch. It is a pleasure to play and I love the way the interface works. I don’t win every game and that’s fine! I sometimes enjoy the cardboard version solo, but most of my solo play is with the app. If you’re into Dune, and you already know this game, it’s a no-brainer, grab it. In my opinion, this is the gold standard for how to implement a tabletop game into digital. It echoes the actual cardboard version just enough and takes advantage of the interface when it needs to. Bravo!.Version: 1.3.3

Barely scratching the surfaceFinally got my first win on EASY and I feel like I have so much more to learn. This game is fascinatingly complex and well-balanced and after every game I’m thinking about things that I probably should have done differently. I’m watching strategy videos on YT and figuring out how to be more efficient with my agents and reveal phase. Just an amazing strategy game and I’m so appreciative to have it digitally because the board game would likely take too long to play for my instant-gratification family. :).Version: 1.5.1

Best standalone boardgame implementation ever? Not only is Dune: Imperium physical version an incredibly deep and compelling game (even more so if you’re a fan of the Dune IP) but Dire Wolf Digital have outdone themselves by creating an incredibly deep metagame within the app. There are many challenges that create special rules, something that doesn’t exist in the base game. I also greatly appreciate that the achievements are thoughtful and not lazy throw away options like many board game apps. Finally, there is much appreciated cross-buy with the Steam version for the DLC. Great stuff..Version: 3.2.1

Wonderful gameI have played several games on the tabletop with my family and friends and on Steam for more than 70 hours. It’s a great game. It’s good enough to shell out my hard earned money to buy it on IOS also. If you like Dune and have played worker placement games, this game will be right up your alley. My gamer friends of course like it. My brother and my 15 year old niece even enjoyed the game and we are planning another game day. I guess that this is all just to say that several demographics will enjoy this game..Version: 1.4.0

Must have for Dune LoversThe quality of the licensed material from the movie is excellent especially the sound. It makes you feel like you’re in that world. The basic game is worth it and it becomes a training ground for the expansions that bring the whole universe to life in such thoughtful ways. I’m guessing Someone on the dev team really likes Dune. The challenges are well thought out and provide a huge amount of extra content. This has been my favorite game for months..Version: 3.3.1

Almost perfectGreat app so far, no crashing, doesn’t seem buggy UI looks great. Push notifications weren’t working for me at first, but they seem to be working now. My only issue: To invite someone on your friend’s list to a game, they have to be current online. Even for an asynchronous (turn based) game, which is strange. I wish you just send someone an invitation even if they were offline, and they could accept whenever they are online next. As of now, I have to text my friends to get online to accept my request. Otherwise, amazing app!.Version: 1.3.2

Incredible gameLong story short: buy this game now. Both the base game and expansion are incredible. Develop: After downloading the expansion I can’t zoom in on cards or game spaces anymore and see their abilities. This is a big problem during gameplay because I now have zero way to see the reveal abilities of cards in my hand. Edit: everything started working normally after I backed out and restarted. Could have been an iPad issue. Gals.Version: 2.1

Only thing missing is pass-and-playThis game is amazing! The reason I am giving it four stars instead of five is the lack of local multiplayer (aka hot seat or pass-and-play). This would be the perfect game to play with friends or family on a long plane flight otherwise. I am amazed at how well it works on the small screen of an iPhone. Two bugs: 1. Cards in hand sometimes obscure leftmost intrigue cards, making them unplayable 2. Hard AI sometimes goes all in on combats that are clearly not worth winning. (E.g., 4 solari).Version: 2.1.7

Fan of the Board Game? It’s a Must Have!If you have played the physical board game and like it, then you’re going to love the app! Even if you haven’t, Dune Imperium is THE prime example of deck builder/worker placement combination out there. The app takes the setup time out of the equation along with any rule clarifications you might have. It also features unique challenge modes if you wear yourself out against the AI in solo mode. One of the smoothest transitions from tabletop to virtual I’ve ever played..Version: 2.2.7

Amazing game but Chinese font is not correct. This is an amazing board game. The resources and characters are so abundant that I can play the game all day. BUT it seems the Chinese fonts are not always correctly shown on the panel on almost every platform. Sometimes it shows the traditional Chinese fonts and sometimes it is just a blank box. I guess this problem originates from Unity. I hope you can fix it in later updates..Version: 1.5.1

Flawless ImplementationThis game not only plays smoothly with intuitive manipulation of the components, but I love that its layout is almost exactly like the actual table top game. Some digital implementations of board games lean more towards graphics and visuals; and while those games play well and are aesthetically pleasing, I personally love it when the digital version follows the table top layout. This game is spot on with great layout and controls. Beautiful!.Version: 1.5.1

Best game in the App StoreJust like the board game this is based on. It just keeps getting better and i find myself keep coming back. I own all the expansions and i can certainly say that playing the expansions in the app is much better, immortality is so much fun in the app. When i first started playing the app I wasn’t completely convinced, but they tweaked it and fixed it to perfection, that now its so awesome and fun..Version: 3.3.6

Best digital board game adaptation I’ve played.I own Dune Uprising but not imperium. Uprising was so good that I wanted the ability to play it whenever I felt like it. My only concern was that the base game would not be as good as uprising. After playing a dozen times, I can say that I’ve thoroughly enjoyed each game. I’ve also learned a lot about strategy by facing the AI opponents. If I could only pick one digital board game, this would be the one..Version: 3.3.1

Well worth the price of entry! This is a very well done digital adaptation of the board game. Really fun to play, and I was quickly able to get used to the UI. I appreciate the fact that they included an undo button. AI has proved to be challenging in my first few plays. I’m glad the developers have already announced one expansion and that this will receive future support. One of the better board game apps I own..Version: 1.3.2

Good overallThe app is good. we did find one bug where the card reverent mother ask opponents to discard two cards. I discarded 1 card. then it said I can’t discard that card and then asked to discard two more cards. I ended up discarding 3 cards with it. It costed me to lose the conflict fight. I couldn’t even redo the choices. I wouldn’t have this problem playing the tabletop game. But i like the fact that the game only takes 1 hour instead of 4 hours with AIs..Version: 1.5.0

Great adaptation of a great gameThis is exactly the kind of board game that benefits from a digital adaptation: lots of moving parts, lots of numbers and restrictions to keep track of, all taken care of for you in this game. Plus, a full game can take as little as 20 - 30 minutes, at least against the ai, so even though it can be very “one more turn” addictive it doesn’t steal too much of your time..Version: 1.5.1

Long Live the Gamers!!!Dune Imperium has been on my top 5 list and has stayed at # 1 for the last two years, especially with Uprising releasing last year. Dune Imperium Digital has become a great way of playing the game with friends near and far! I believe it will continue to be a blast along with Rise of Ix and Immortality joining in the fun hopefully soon! Great game, highly recommend to Dune and board game fans everywhere!.Version: 1.4.0

Great game, minor gameplay differencesVery fun adaptation of the board game. Some minor differences like not being able to choose the order of operations like using the power on a card before choosing a game space (e.g. a ducal signet giving you one water allowing you to go to a space that spends one water). Edit: I’ve been playing it wrong this whole time now I know.Version: 3.3.0

Cry havoc! And let slip the chairdogs of war! This is the premier digital board game right now. Do you love Dune? Do you love board games? Then look no further. I should probably just get A.I. to write a review–"Dune Imperium masterfully blends deck-building and worker placement into a strategic, thematic, and highly engaging board game experience.–Um, yeah, that's basically what I said. And I used an em dash, so you know that A.I. wrote this review. lolz. Modern times–What a trip, eh?.Version: 3.2.1

Can’t see Reveal part of cardCan’t see Reveal part of card until reveal phase very frustrating other than this fantastic game. If this can be fixed or explain how to see it or pull entire hand up will quickly become Five star review Holding cards still kind of annoying but I can at least see reveal section.Version: 2.2.7

May thy screen chip and shatterVery well made. Obviously not ideal to play on a mobile screen but they’ve done a great job making it as easy and intuitive as possible. Would definitely recommend for anyone who’s played the board games and if you haven’t there’s a pretty detailed tutorial. 🤞🏼Uprising is on the way..Version: 2.1.6

One of the best strategic thinking gamesIt is a deck building game and many cards are in the master deck, available to be added to your deck in the game. You won’t get through the master deck in a single game of Dune, which means the replay value is very high, because the cards in the master deck that you have available to add to your deck, determine how the game proceeds..Version: 3.3.1

Best Online Board Game with bugsHave truly enjoyed this game and would love to play future dune games. Only downside is that the bugs in cards : likely not fulfilling the action of intrigue plays. Other issues bugs in notifications of turn and making games. I would highly recommend buying this game and I believe these bugs will be fixed in the near future..Version: 1.4.0

Wow, What a Great Game!I’d never played this game before, but I’m a big Dune fan. This game does not disappoint. It’s a perfect mix of worker placement and deck building in a way that enhances both aspects. It’s a little confusing at first, but has an excellent tutorial. It’s also one of the few board games that plays almost as comfortably on the iPhone 15 Pro Max as it does on the iPad Pro..Version: 1.3.2

This game. WOW.I'm a magic the gathering and league of legends player. I'm old and frozen in my ways, I didn't think I'd find a game I'd like, especially a board game, yet here I am, staying up late to play a couple games. I watched the second film four times in the theater and would have given a fifth watch if it didn't leave theaters..Version: 1.5.1

Good so farNot really my type of game but giving it a shot. Only bought it and trying it out because I want to support the team that brought me the game I’ve loved and played more than any other game: Eternal. Still learning this game in the tutorial but wanted to give a big thanks to DWD! Love you guys!.Version: 3.3.6

What are the best digital board games on the market?I’m a complete board game nerd. I can play them every day, and in fact I catch myself playing this 3 to 4 times a week multiple games at a time. If you like the Dune boarding game, you will love the efficiency of the digital version..Version: 3.3.6

Great Port to MobileDune Imperium is one of my favorite boardgames to solo. I am so happy to have the digital version on my pc and phone! Now I can play anywhere I want! I encourage any fans of Dune or deckbuilding/worker placement games to give it a shot. If you like the base game I also recommend the expansion. I do not play without it!.Version: 2.2.7

Great Digital AdaptationSo far things seem to be super user friendly. Only complaint is that on my iPad the game is larger than the display area which means I’m not able to properly see the bottom of my cards and sometimes words are off screen. 9/10..Version: 1.3

Just like board gameIt plays just like the board game, it’s very efficient and very detailed, and easy to play 10 out of 10 would recommend.. I bought two copies just to have it on different devices, if that tells you anything!.Version: 2.1

Slick UIAlong with Direwolf’s other games this has the same great UI. I was nervous to spend on a complex game like this to play on my iPhone. My eyes are not what they once were. Thankfully the UI is well made and I have had no issues learning and enjoying this great game..Version: 2.1

Good game, no pass and playThe game is good, if a bit of a bland presentation compared to Root, Through the Ages and other board game adaptations. The AI is a bit too easy but is being improved. The real bummer for me is no pass and play. I love board game apps for playin on long car trips or plane flights, and was in fact the entire reason I bought the game. I hope they have something planned..Version: 1.4.0

Allow for app backgroundingThis is the best board game app I’ve seen so far. However, it would be amazing if we can update for allowing backgrounding of the app. It is frustrating for everything to reload for 30 to 50 seconds even if you minimize the app for a second.Version: 3.3.6

Uses every bit of available CPU on M2On my M2 MacBook Pro Dune eats up a ridiculous amount of processor for what is mostly a 2d non FPS game. Using 'AppPolice' and reducing the alloted cpu percentage to 4% keeps the background annimation and effects running smoothly and keeps the computer from ramping up fans to full speed and getting hot. It's fun, great, lovely game. It needs changes made to the way it uses system resources..Version: 1.5.1

Solid, but could use a little improvementHitting the “close” icon (when you look at your tech, etc) is a bugger on this game. It’s down at he bottom of the screen, and it seems like to hit it 5-6 times before it will actually close.Version: 3.3.6

No Pass and Play OptionThis is really a fantastic implementation of one of the best board games of all time. But there’s no excuse as to why pass and play isn’t available on this one, especially since it’s something that Dire Wolf Digital offers on their other (great) board game apps. If you only want to play solo or online, then you’ll love this game..Version: 2.2.7

Same as the board gameSame as the board game, but the online community is dead so it’s hard to match in games with real players.Version: 3.3.6

Fantastic implementationOne of the best adaptations of a physical board game, rivalling Carcassonne. This is a fantastic must-have for those who love deck building and worker placement..Version: 3.3.6

好玩整点才能排位,可惜.Version: 3.3.1

No reel ranking systemVery nice, the game is smooth. The ranking system should have various mode. We should be able to play ranked game in the base game..Version: 3.3.6

Great adaption of my favourite board gameDune: Imperium has been one of my favourite games of the past few years and this adaption is perfect. You can tell they took time on it to make the gameplay and interface smooth..Version: 3.3.1

Incredible as the board gameMy favorite board game perfectly translated to an app. Can’t wait for Dune Uprising to become available also!.Version: 3.3.1

Superb game, captures Herbert's universeThis digital adaptation of the board game elegantly captures the feel of both the Dune novels and Villeneuve's movie adaptations. Smooth solo and online play options. The challenges are indeed challenging..Version: 3.2.1

Superb translation of the board gameI can’t think of a single thing that they could’ve done better in digitizing Dune Imperium. Lots of replay value without ever having to play online..Version: 2.2.10

Brilliant PortA little small on my 13 mini, but that’s more my fault than anything. This is a great port of my favourite board game. I hope they’re able to bring more expansions in! Maybe even Uprising someday!.Version: 2.2.10

Most played iOS gameThe learning curve can be a little steep, but once you get the basics it’s a long lasting game. When I first started out I ran through the tutorial three times. Took about a week to really sink in. Money well worth spent..Version: 2.2.7

PerfectLoads of fun!!!.Version: 2.1.6

Not optimized for iPad miniTranslates the board game to digital beautifully however on iPad mini I have experienced several instances where parts of the UI cover other parts, or overlays that don’t line up with what they are trying to highlight. Hope they can fix those issues..Version: 2.1.7

Great gameBeautiful implementation!.Version: 2.1

Excellent gameFantastic game! Love the ui, animations and the sound. Top notch. If you enjoyed the movies and/or strategy board games I highly recommend. Note: I’ve noticed I cannot retreat troops when using the “master tactician” intrigue card anymore. I bought the Ix expansion and have only been playing that so I’m not sure if it’s a bug that only appears with the expansion turned on. I’m on iOS if it helps. Anyway, love the expansion and I eagerly await the release of the immortality expansion (with managed expectations regarding if and when it’ll be released since ix just dropped.) Cheers.Version: 2.1

👏👏👏Well done. I'm not a big app game guy but having got into the physical board game first and looking for a mobile way to play with friends at the cottage (if the board isn't available) this is an excellent option. Only for us 50+ i reco bringing your iPad lol..Version: 1.5.1

Best. Game. Ever.Best app adaptation of the best board game means this is an easy 5 star and a must play for any board game or dune enthusiast..Version: 1.5.1

BestAs good as the real thing.Version: 1.5.0

AmazingIncredibly fun game!.Version: 1.4.2

Nice! Spicey!Superb game Dire Wolf. Well done! Not much you could do to improve this one - except expansions! Bravo Zulu!.Version: 1.4.0

One of the best games of all time now at your fingertipsTitle says if all, if you like board games, strategy or Dune this is for you..Version: 1.4.0

By far my favourite board gameGot it because I watched dune 2 in theatres right before the release and figured 15 was cheap enough to try it. Favourite board game by far never know who will win. For example I just from 6 to 11 points to steal a win last round.Version: 1.4.0

Never review but have to throw 5/5 down on this puppySee above.Version: 1.3.3

Great digital conversion for the board game, the spice must flow!Ever since I got the board game a few months ago, I’ve been wanting a digital version. This does not disappoint. Best part is it helped me understand the game better. My friends and I have been playing the game wrong where we each played all our agents at once instead of one at a time. Would love to see the expansions added..Version: 1.3.3

Pass and play?Absolutely fantastic implementation of the board game. And I love that progress has carried over from the Steam open access version. Only thing missing for me is pass and play..Version: 1.3

Pass and play modeI love this game. But the local play only has AI mode. Is it possible to add pass and play feature in the future?.Version: 1.3

Great strategy gameSo many different avenues to pursue to win. Spring for the Uprising expansion. Worth it..Version: 4.0.7

GreatThey have done a great job of shrinking a large board onto a smaller screen. Game plays very well, AI puts up a good challenge. It feels like Dune Imperium..Version: 1.3
