Designed for wildland firefighters, this app has something for newbies as well as seasoned professionals. This is a tool you will use for years, during the off season, at camp, and even on the fireline.

Wildland Toolkit provides a plethora of wildland fire reference material, including the actual IRPG, ICS forms, quizzes that cover NWCG courses, photos of tools and aircraft types, etc. Learn new things, and reinforce what you already know.

If you’ve had S290 or S390, you know how hard it is to calculate things like FDFM, PIG, rate of spread, flame length, etc. With this app, those numbers are spit out instantly as you take the weather! Now you can store all your weather logs for all your fires right on the app. The goal has always been to make recording the weather easier than paper.

Even better, you can share those weather logs from the field if you have network coverage, or wait until later and pull them up on your iPad or M1-based Mac, where all the data is synced, and do further analysis and sharing.

Just enter the fuel, weather, and topography information and Wildland Toolkit will generate:

--RH and Dewpoint
--Fine Dead Fuel Moisture
--Probability of Ignition
--Flamelength
--Rate of Spread
--Scorch height
--Direction of Max Spread
--Effective Windspeed

All 54 of the new fuel models are supported, with a guide to select the proper fuel model, complete with sample photos.

NOTE: There are no known calculation errors in this version. We will immediately fix any problems reported to us directly.

Wildland Toolkit is not a tutorial on wildland fire behavior, so if the terms above do not make any sense, then this application will not teach you. It is assumed that you know the same background information that is presented in an S290 or S390 class. The calculations done in the Wildland Toolkit are similar to what is done with the BEHAVE software, but you will find the user interface much easier to use.

--In addition, numerous safety checklists and reference guides are included, such as watchouts, fire orders, safety zones, watchouts, structure defense, sizeups, crew briefing, after action reviews, LCANS, and complexity analysis etc.

--Photos and diagrams are provided for cloud types, hand signals, common wildland tools, firefighting aircraft, and ICS org charts.

--Interactive practice quizzes are included for basic wildland fire, CPR, NIMS IS-700, S230 and S290.

--ICS reference guide with position descriptions, an index of forms, and incident typing

--Pack Test Timer guides you through your pack test and tells you your current pace and expected finish time ***

--Cool Slope Calculator uses your phone to tell you slope

--And if that's not all, the IRPG is provided in PDF form

*** Pack Test timer uses GPS. Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life. GPS is not used if the Pack Test is stopped.

Wildland Toolkit App Comments & Reviews

Wildland Toolkit Positive Reviews

Outstanding AppI have been using this software (in various formats) all the way back to my PalmPilot. It has always been top notch all the way. This most recent version for the Iphone is a much better app than the Palm version, and priced better. The only thing I hope for in the future updates, is the ability to use it in landscape mode when needed. Good job John Covele thanks for continuing to advance the product to the best platform ever..Version: 0

Great AppIt’s great to have a consolidated grouping of all the forms that I need, but the price is a little high in my opinion..Version: 4.2

Decent app, but lacks accuracy. This app is pretty good; useful is quickly calculating weather observations, fdfm, and PIG when precision isn't crucial (ie. to get a general idea). However, the calculations aren't as accurate as using an actual belt weather kit. Also, with the recent addition of the firefighting aircraft, there is at least one error. The Blackhawk's nomenclature is incorrect, and coming from a military veteran who fights fire now, that disturbs me. The correct nomenclature is UH-60, not UH-50. There has never been a UH-50 blackhawk. Errors as simple as that in this app make me question the accuracy of the rest of the app features..Version: 3.1

Great reference for firefighters!I wouldn't take my iPhone on the fire line, but this is a great way to reference all willand information. I like the study guides and calculators. It is like an interactive IRPG. The interface could use some development, but otherwise it is great!.Version: 0

Good productIt is a great App for any management personnell. Has all the checklists and does your weather calculations quickly and easily. My only complaint is that in AK we have different elevation ranges for use with the RH charts. When support for determining the RH on Alaska fires is added I will give it 5 stars. UPDATE: Great improvements in the 1.2 update. The addition of the cloud pictures and descriptions is very useful along with the Organization Charts. Still no Alaska RH tables. Need to add this so it can be used on Alaska fires. Also missing is information about the CFFDRS (Canadian Forest Fire Danger Rating System) which is used in Canada and Alaska. This would be helpful to a large part of the fire community. Getting better but 5 stars is for a perfect product. You'll get it when there is support for the northern half of North America..Version: 0

A solid productThis program is very useful for quick calculations in the field. I use it to spot check some of the other software programs I use for fire behavior modeling. The most important thing is that its accurate and mobile. I look forward to subsequent releases with more improvements. One recommendation would be to link the GPS function so it gets the altitude and lat, long and puts it in automatically..Version: 0

So helpfullThis app is so easy to use and has a lot to offer I use it a lot to brush up on fire facts the only thing I think it could use would be some sawyer and other handbooks but other than that I love it I show this to all my other crew members.Version: 3.0

Not disappointed anymoreThe latest revision Feb/Mar 2011 seems to have fixed the issue with the RH transfer. PI's and FDFM appear to be calculating correctly again and are yielding similar results to appendix B. Thank you. I look forward to using this app again on future VMPs and I will definitely point it out to my S290 students However, please make sure to test the integrity of these important functionalities when making future revisions. I love the app and am happy to have a working version again, but I am just a little gun-shy. Thanks again for contacting me to resolve this issue..Version: 0

Great productUsed this a couple of times on Rx burns and some resource benefit fires this year. The user interface is excellent. Would give it five stars if it had reference pics to go with the fuel model help. Other than that it is a great tool for FEMO's or for anybody who wants a quick field reference for fire bahavior..Version: 0

Easy to useFinally it's easy to do those fire behavior calculations. No more nomograms. I may actually make use of that stuff now..Version: 0

Awesome!Love it!! Easy to use and so handy. Can't wait to see the other apps this company produces- hope there are many more!.Version: 0

Super usefulChecklists and references are handy for briefing and safety reviews with coworkers. Lots to review during downtime. Weather calculation tools are handy and offer more precision than charts..Version: 2.0.2

Useful AppI've been using the calculator for the last 2 seasons Saves time, is dead accurate, and makes my job just a little easier.Version: 2.0.2

A must haveGreat field resource. Accurate fire calculation tools, quick and easy to use..Version: 3.2

Great app!!It's an IRPG and more for your iPhone! What more could a wildland firefighter ask for?.Version: 0

MrGreat app saves time and you can get rid of all the charts in the weather kit! Makes figuring pig and fdfm a snap. Would like to see the old fuel models included..Version: 0

Awesome app!!Awesome app!!.Version: 2.0

AwesomeI have used this app for several years 1:Great for expanding knowledge 2:Great for keeping knowledge 3:Great for rainy days 4:Great for quizzing and training Rookies, experienced Crew members 5: Easily identifying resources, fuel types, weather patterns 6: Refreshing during Preseason 7: I always recommend this app to anyone with an iPhone above all others( but wish my android guys could have it too) 8: Irpg backup All in all, very useful, accurate app, hope to see expansions (task books, more class quizzes, 10 and 18 quiz (for memorizing), Pump/Saw troubleshooting, Hose lay calculations)etc. If this app keeps growing, could be no.1 app for fire guys, keep it up and thank you! -Jason Pendleton(Ict5,FFt1).Version: 4.2

Not badApp is okay for $5. You do get a lot of helpful stuff and is perfect for rookies and those that need extra guides to help with retention. Could use more pictures in some areas. Biggest problem for me was how the pack test timer was such a disappointment. I compared the pack test timer accuracy with almost every other app and it fails. I ran the app concurrently with others and the only thing that stayed correct was the time and almost the speed but the distance was off. I’ve completed the pack test many times with multiple apps and with the pack test timer always said I’ve only completed .03-.30 miles in 45 minutes..Version: 4.3.1
