The best scanner app I have found.I have used this scanner app for years now. A few times I tried out other apps that did not come close to this one. I check out what is happening locally most of the time. I hear sirens in the town I live in, turn on the scanner app and quickly I am able to hear what is happening. It also has a list of what the codes stand for that I really appreciate. To be honest sometimes I listen to the scanner and I hear of car accidents and emergencies and get my mind wondering if it involves someone I know. I feel I need to contact my kids to make sure they are safe. They are adults. When that happens it is time to stop listening because I am getting a little too overboard. I also enjoy listening to the scanner in large cities. It is quite entertaining to me. There are only a few adds that really are not a bother. Years of using this app has not cost anything. It is one of the best apps I have on my phone. My only complaint is the channel for the county I live in at times has a lot of talking from a different county in my state and is a bit confusing and sometimes annoying. But I don’t know if that has anything to do with this app. It probably does not but I am not knowledgeable about how it works. GREAT APPI am and have always been NOSY🫣😲 there are so many channels to listen to! Full page ads are the worstI love that this app can access publicly available scanner feeds, in areas around the world that are completely out of radio range from my old fashioned RF scanner hardware. Having been a shortwave, aviation, train, and emergency services listener for over 50 years, I’ve toned down my listening to just a few minutes on rare occasions, and with over 500 apps, I stick with the free versions when I can. Apple has a perfectly acceptable ad-banner methodology that works well, to make us aware of the ad, and give us a way to learn more, if we’re interested, and earn the software developer a little (sometimes a lot of) money for their effort. I find the full-page ads to be a reprehensible way to put these ads, usually for things we’re not interested in, in our face, and block access to the app controls. Disgusting. Everyone should have thisI am so thankful for this app. It has helped me to become more aware of the calls our local police and other emergency services take. A lot more happens than the news reports and there is a lot of good work those folks do. I live in a smaller city and our police were called to 3 different situations at practically the same time: one was domestic abuse, another a peeping Tom and another reported suicidal person. The team worked together and took them all seriously and being the first responders. This was all at 3 am. And this was in the midst of many riots in other cities and many people telling the news that police are not doing there job. Seriously? Love This AppI've been using this app for years. Ever since my iPod gen 2 was new. It has the ability to access emergency services radio from all over the world. But for me, I primarily use it to find out what's going on in my home town. When the fire whistle goes off it's nice to be able to listen in and find out what's going on and where. It can help to alleviate some anxiety for people like me, who can be a bit paranoid about their loved ones safety. It's pretty impressive, it even has my small towns emergency services radio on there and it's just a small town with a population of around 2000. There's no draw back to having this app. It doesn't take up much storage space on your data drive and even the free versions adverts are barely noticeable. Waaaaaaaaaaaaay more ads than previous versions!Been using this app for years & the most recent version will play an ad in the middle of dispatch or officer response. Disappointed but great way to get people to spend the $5 to go ad-free I suppose. Either that or test other scanners apps to see if there is a better value for $5. Maybe just make it so the ads don’t interrupt the use of the app, say perhaps only play ads when changing stations? Just disappointing after using the app all these years. One of the best apps in the storeI've used this app for several years and gladly paid for the upgrade. I'm in public safety, and this app is my backup to my portable and pager. Here are a few notes on getting the most out of the app... The audio is a data stream (like listening to an Internet radio station). Therefore, it uses both battery/adapter power. Unless you have either unlimited data or a wifi connection, you might go over your limit. Also, it's a good idea to use a power adapter and not batteries. The audio typically comes from local scanners connected to the Internet. Therefore the quality may vary. Also, there may be a lag from the time a station transmits, until you actually hear it. Been disappointed.....stillThere’s no sense in complaining it never really improves a great deal. Various problems sometimes it sounds like you’re in a tunnel sometimes it sounds like a bubble machine sometimes you can barely understand anybody. Y am I having to wait through ads when I paid for this app?Update: Somehow when I changed devices I ended up back here on the free version. Great appOne thing to understand with this app is that there is a delay and transmission. I use it to listen to the Fire Station my son is a Explorer at and he often text me concerning calls he is on when I’ve not even heard the call on the scanner. My best guess is that it is roughly a 13 to 15 minute delay but as long as you understand that it’s fantastic. I would have to pay roughly $400 for a high quality scanner to get real time dispatches and I would have to remain in the transmission coverage area to hear the call. This app allows me to hear the calls from anywhere I have a connection to cellular or the web. Well worth the upgrade to pro to get rid of the ads and I think the Pro version stays in the background better then the free app does..FcpliVersion: 40.0

Love the App, but have a suggestion...Other fellow firefighters and myself use this app on the job all the time to listen in on our surrounding areas to see if we could be heading their direction if the need more units. What I am suggesting, is separating frequencies so we don't have to listen to 6 different fire and police frequencies on the same app channel. It makes it hard to concentrate on what a fire channel is saying when police channels start to talk and cut off when fire is saying. Another item that I would wish the developers could change is the amount of ads (playing at full volume). If I’m listening to a fire, an ad jumps on louder than the radio traffic that is heard. Great app, works for my curiosities.When I hear the fire whistle go off in my town, I can turn on the app and usually catch what the call is about. Unfortunately my county selection no longer works so I have to use the one for Central PA which gives me a lot of areas I don’t want but I can usually hear my local report through it. Once I saw several fire trucks, from many companies, (in a different county) head to a huge plume of smoke we saw in the sky, which ended up being a barn fire. And it’s for free!I downloaded this app with skepticism because I was always under the impression that you had to have a police scanner. I remember my father and I listening to the scanner when I was a young boy hearing the fire department and other public agencies. There is really nothing bad about the app and the scanner functions. Upon load up there’s a brief 5 second..if that ad, and also sometimes throughout the usage of the app, but you can still hear what’s going on and you can usually fast forward through the ads. TimingBeen using this app for a few months give or take. I work for my local Sheriff’s Office, and decided I would get this as it would be an alternative to a handheld portable scanner since they can cost upwards of $500. Only recently did I notice that the radio traffic is not in real time. It’s a recording of past transmissions. (My colleagues and I tested this hypothesis.) We would sit in different stations of the facility and listen to the facility radio, and the 5-0 Scanner app. The transmissions in the app are days or even weeks after they’ve been made over local traffic. While I understand the concerns of listening to radio traffic in real time, the app developers could at least put a small warning that the transmissions are not from the same day, let alone in sync. Overall, I’ll rate this app 3 stars as it is handy to give to the new recruits to test their knowledge on the 10-codes. [We’ll sit there and listen to the local traffic through the 5-0 scanner app as we don’t have the time to try and quiz newbies on the traffic with the facility radios. The crime in my neighborhoodIs almost constant so when sirens screech by and or the police helicopter Is hovering overhead it was not uncommon to see me gathered around with neighbors wondering WHAT JUSY HAPPENED?? Had this app for years now.So let's begin with it works most of the time, but not the times some people would really need it to. For instance to help save some lives of the people the were unconscious after a roll over which had landed them in the river just putting their unconscious heads out of reach of rising waters. Sure I might have made it if I wasn't fiddling with getting my iPad app to give me a mile marker point through the pending ads that restrict you from listening or if it simply just does not want you to hear so the man at the other end pushes the stop button as you press play over and over. Good app annoying adsI like this app for the most part. I use it daily. I realize that I don’t buy the premium version so I must deal with the ads. That used to be okay, but now they pop up and cover the screen. Yesterday I had one pop up that had audio so it cancelled out what I was listening to. I know the ads are important revenue for you, but if they are at the bottom of the screen anyway, why do they have to pop up as well? I for one would never buy anything they advertise because they are annoying. I can’t get those suckers closed fast enough. Plus there are political ads as well. This app is great but there's one thing..that I can't stand and it started about two weeks after I downloaded the app. I can listen fire & EMS in my county and I could listen to the sheriffs office also but now the sheriffs office won't play and the blue power button beside it only favorites isn't lite up like the other ones. Is there a reason for this or a way to turn it on. That is who my husband works through and I love being able to listen to this scanner while he is at work. Great app but sometimes I wonderI love this app when it’s working! There’s been a few times I’ve got on it and it’s like everything was wiped off it ..... dead silence! Good app however...It tends to crash a lot, and it's usually right after an Ad comes up, which is often. Sometimes it closes on me 3 times in 10 minutes. Also, an improvement suggestion would be to show the time in the time zone of the radio station that is selected, so if it is in pacific time the clock could adjust to that time instead of staying local time. Sometimes it buffers a lot which is frustrating because it's usually right around when something good is happening, and sometimes crashes or skips parts. Seems to be the better app for this sort of thingAds aren’t as invasive as the one I was using prior. It seems to work great overall. The ONLY issue I ran in to was the scanner goes inactive, I think, is when switching between networks… WiFi to cellular, or cellular to WiFi. The app must lost a brief connection and causes the stream to cease. It would be really cool for the connection switch to live between network switching through “buffer magic”. I will continue to use it on vacations and times when it’s interesting to listen to areas I visit through work and leisure. Very Good Scanner AppI like this scanner app a great deal. It does everything expected of a scanner, and its search function to find viable channels keep one from having to enter a bunch of frequency numbers (though you can do so if for some reason it doesn't find the channel you are looking for). It has a nice little timer that you can turn on in order to keep track of arrival time of units and total length of time the incident lasts. All in all a nice app though there are some units, like The Alaska State Troopers, do to their use of a "trunk dispatching and communication" system. Better than other apps!I have had this free version of this app for more than 10 years I usually listen during weather events (snow, ice, tornados) in Oklahoma. I recently downloaded a competitor app only to find out it’s the identical stream that comes from the same source, so don’t waste your money!! You have ads, of course, on this free app but just close them it doesn’t interrupt your stream. Good Choice in Scanners5-0 Radio is a very good choice for scanner apps. I have had it on multiple devices for over 4 years and have never been disappointed. There are a lot of options to get vital information from all around the world, however I mainly use the scanner to find out what happened when my local fire whistle blows. Please make this Apple Car Play compatible like some others!!!I’ve been using Scanner Radio (orange icon with grey radio) because that app shows up for Apple Car Play, but this app has so many more feeds! Good App... Not Good When Traveling.....I enjoy using this app. However, it is not so good like when you are traveling. For example when I am traveling I try to tap the option "Local Scanner" and it does not work very good when you are traveling and you are trying to get the local police scanners. Quality and Informative for freeI will admit I hunted through play store for awhile till I found this one and it actually works! I live in A really high Crime low Police city that has an insane amount of murder shootings stabbings fire the whole 9yrds. 5-0 RadioI'm siting here tonight while in the mist of a tornado warning in North Texas...this is a common occurrence during the spring each year. This scanner app allows me to listen to all the active chatter from the local amateur radio operators in the area and it's much more informative than the local news channels... Everyone please readMany of the emergency broadband channels are converting to encrypted frequencies meaning you need equipment that provides a special key integrated on the device to listen. so you may not be able to listen to your local emergency channel because it’s Encrypted. Somebody actually showed me an actual channel for emergency services through an older device, there was nothing but static when a transmission was broadcast. Most Accurate App5-0 Radio Police Scanner is definitely the best police radio app I've used. Even on Thursday, when it was pretty quiet, I was able to listen for reports from downtown with very little lag time. I was able to put on my suit and climb on top of the Sykes building in time to see his car drive down Ashley St. I had planned for a lot of wind resistance, as my other apps are usually about three seconds behind, but I was able to fly to the Sykes roof and wait for the thief with two seconds to spare, perfect for diving onto the hood of his car. Can’t Close AdsIt seems like an ad starts playing (with music) every time I open the app. And, sometimes I am unable to close the ad (after it’s finished), so I have to re-boot my phone to get out of the ad. Not reliableSo to start is off none of the codes match up not even close. Most are missing and the ones up there have nothing to do with %60 of what is talked about. Ads won’t closeI have had this app for years and always liked it. I haven’t used it in a while until today. It didn’t save my favorites from before so I went to browse to add then again. I could add one or two and then an ad would pop up which is expected in the free edition. But as I was going back and forth adding favorites, each ad would run a little longer every time I went back to browse. They were running for up to 5 minutes before allowing me to close them. Then the next time I went to browse some Super Cleaner ad popped up and it would not close at all. I waited for more than 10 minutes. I closed 5 0 Radio and opened it a minute later and the same ad was still there and there was no way to go back to 5 0 Radio. At hey point I came here to write this review. It’s obvious the developer is trying to force users to buy the paid version by these tactics. I tried the app on my other phone and it the ads started getting longer and longer. I’m going to file a complaint with Apple and see if that helps. GarbageI downloaded this app years and years ago. It used to be great...fast, responsive, reliable, and minimal ads. Now? The app is absolute garbage. Every single time you open a feed, a totally irrelevant, loud, useless ad takes up the whole screen. Often, you can’t find the exit button to close the ad, and frequently this causes you to miss important audio. Want to switch feeds? More ads! Listening to an event or a feed for an extended period of time? Watch and wait as it silently pauses the feed every 8 minutes and 52 seconds on the dot. I, along with many other first responders, use this app to get vital radio traffic, and it just isn’t reliable enough for that anymore. This ad merely pulls audio feeds from Broadcastify, if you’re going to pay for a premium source, why pay this developer who has sold out when you could just pay the source? Doesn’t work like it used toThis app has gone to crap. It used to work fine. You’d open the app and choose the scanner you want and watch a quick ad and then move onto the scanner you’ve chosen. It would play the radio traffic you’ve chosen. Now you do all the same, but you have to watch multiple ads and if you are lucky the scanner will work. It usually doesn’t. You usually have to fiddle with it and you are forced to watch a couple ads, then fiddle with it more, then watch more ads, then fiddle with it more, then watch more ads. Then after a few times of doing that, if you are lucky, the scanner works. But by then, you’ve been screwing around so long, you’ve missed the info that was broadcast that you were tuning in to hear. Ads are out of controlI completely understand that there are going to be ads in any free version of an app, but this scanner has the longest ads, that interfere with the use of the app in the first place. I often open this app because there’s sirens nearby, and I want to see what is going on, but the fact that the ads pop up almost immediately, after opening the app, and then run anywhere from one to three minutes, by the time the ad finally closes, whatever radio chatter was going on you have now missed. Is $3.99 in-app purchase ACTUALLY available??The prices for purchase are inconsistent. In the App Store, the free- version lists the in-app purchase of 5-0 Radio Pro Police Scanner as $3.99. In the app itself, the upgrade for ‘More Features/Feeds/No Ads’ took me to the 5-0 Radio Pro Police Scanner app in the App Store and wanted $4.99. Of note: the free and pro versions are listed as separate apps. Since the app doesn’t offer a way to contact the developer, I’m leaving a review here. I was considering purchasing because the ads are a huge drawback and discourage me from using the free version. For example, the ads don’t pop up consistently, sometimes they display when opening the app before selecting a feed or changing to a different feed and sometimes they don’t. Great, but THE ADS ARE KILLING ME!!The app functionality does what it’s expected to do, but when launching the app, every time, ads pop up over the screen and aren’t dismissible until they time out. The most recent ad was 15 seconds long before the cancel button was enabled! The problem is that the ads have audio, which takes over so I can’t hear the scanner audio. USED to be the best police scanner app……but the ads have gotten ridiculous. They are not only irrelevant (usually advertising stupid games), but they are LOUD and they actually blare over the scanner so you cannot hear what is being reported. Just tonight after hearing sirens nearby, I turned on the app to see if I could hear what was going on and could only hear three words before an obnoxious ad came blaring on over what I was trying to listen to and I couldn’t hear a word. I Like The Idea Of This AppI wish I could leave a better review. As it is , I may at some point either upgrade to the paid version, or find another app. The ads on the free version are horrible. Absolutely oppressive. It’s like being back in 1998 when pop ups were everywhere. It’s really hard most of the time to figure out how to close them before being taken to some full page mess. The main reason I switched is that the other app would blast you with a full page unskippable ad that was full volume. No Longer FeasibleWhen first downloaded years ago it worked ok, with only one channel available for three different entities in my area. You could only hear one of them at a time, obviously, but it gave no option to prioritize which one you would like on top. That hindered the ability to follow a major important event going on because of interruptions from the other entities not involved or related to it. Now it is pretty much useless as all the entities have switched over to a different more secure radio system. This app is up to date and it does not pick up any traffic. Garbage ad proxyNot enough toilet paper in the world to wipe this mess of an ad server hiding as an app. To be clear, this like all other “scanner” apps are just rebroadcasting web feeds of scanners that other people maintain for free. These volunteers maintain their own radio scanners and broadcast them onto the web. This app simply compiles them all into a nice easy to use interface. Fine. That’s actually useful. But the non stop ads that are so irrelevant and impossible to close. Ads for casinos and for other games that appear to be meant for pre teen girls to learn how to “make boys like them”. Learn your target market and stop forcing middle aged men and women who want to listen to train and ambulance frequencies to click on ads for apps that are morally corrupt just to earn some money.
