• Easy to use — No buttons to press or modes to select, just point to the sky to start exploring.

• Designed specifically for efficient outdoor use.

• Touch free identification — No need to keep touching the screen to identify what you see in the sky. Great for those cold nights with gloves on!

GoSkyWatch Planetarium iPad Positive Reviews

Monday June 3, 2024Wanted to see the solar alignment of the planets this morning, but the heavy fog prevented it. So, I pulled out my I-Pad and opened this app. Aimed the pad to the East and walla…there they were all lined up in the sky that I could not see due to the fog. I couldn’t even see the moon, but the app showed me where it was. Great app I’ve had for years and use whenever something unusual is occurring..Version: 9.4.0

Star light star brightThe first star I see tonite. With this app/program you have the whole infinite universe to gaze.....amazing program. The things that we can see...and have defined...for centuries humans have looked deep into the dark twinkles of the great unknown ...love thus app...the universe just got a little closer..really enjoy it thanks.Version: 9.0.0

Wonderful AppI used this so many times driving around the country and being able to find the stars as seasons changed. Using one night with my grandchildren made them star watchers..Version: 9.4.0

ImaginationI live in the city and don’t get to see the star at night with all the light contamination, but with this app, me and my daughter we get to travel the Milky Way. The app is simple fun and great for the more demanding skywatcher or just the newer ones..Version: 9.3.0

Auto Direction IncorrectMy location and time is correct, but when pointing to the east the app says that is south. It is off by 90 degrees. Also, i had paid for the upgrade on my previous ipad so that I could get rid of the ads. How do i get that version back?.Version: 9.2.0

FantasticAbsolutely fantastic for anyone interested in astronomy or with an inquisitive mind. For the advanced or novice who wants a great star-finder. But, this is more than just a star-finder. It's a handheld planetarium and more..Version: 9.0.0

Love itGreat app. Love it!.Version: 9.4.0

I am VERY impressedThis is perhaps the greatest single app I have ever used. One hour with this app last night, answered decades worth of simple questions I'd probably thought about for a few moments, but never bothered to even put into words. For example, I never knew that the sun and the planets were (more or less) following the same trajectory in my visual plane, but now that I can see it, it makes perfect sense. I always wondered why they sometimes appeared close together in the sky (when you can see them). They're all rotating the sun roughly around it's equator, so it would make sense that from Earth, we can see their position along a predictable path. This app grants the viewer a newfound visual perspective of their surroundings. You'll get a better sense of where you are and how things are moving. This app is fantastic!.Version: 6.2.1

Great to haveThis app really came in handy when I went to South Africa. Last year I didn't have it in Australia and was in a remote area where the stars were so plentiful. I had to find a place with WiFi and had to go back and forth and repeatedly check star maps which interferes with viewing big time! I used GSW in Cape Town from my hotel room and was immediately able to identify the Southern Cross so that I could go out on the balcony and pinpoint it right away! No WiFi needed! Even with city lights obstructing viewing ! I think this is the biggest advantage. Since it runs by GPS you can go anywhere to see the night sky and no Internet connection needed. I am not sure if the app includes explanations for the various phenomena but since I am not an astronomer, the more the better. Thanks and keep up the good work!.Version: 5.2.0

Great app!Very intuitive, zero learning curve, and actually very informative, (if not downright cool!) to use such a wonderful tool as an amateur astronomy fan. A wealth of knowledge is available, but this app doesn't overload the user with excessive information. A great bridge between the amateur astronomy fan and more advanced, academically disciplined, professional astronomers. Interface is well thought out, the app is stable, (even on a first gen iPad,) and an extensive amount of options and settings make it very cool to motion track the night sky...as well being able to "see" the heavens during the daylight hours. Obviously, if hooking up a laptop and telescope and data tracking are more your level of interest, you can PAY for apps like that which are far more advanced and extensible. This is a good educational tool at a great (read: free!) price!.Version: 5.1.0

GoSkyWatch 4.6.0Fantastic!!! Best program of its kind that I have found. The more I use it the more I discover things that it is capable of doing. (Like tracing out the sun Analemma as a function of time.) I input my own location with a high degree of accuracy and find extremely good accuracy in everything else that it calculates. I find the accuracy of the program to be Impressive. The display is very realistic as to the relative brightness of the stars and constellations, just the way you see them. You are to be congratulated for creating such a versatile program. Being able to choose between ordinary time, the mean solar day or sidereal days is very useful. In fact, that is what allows you to see the Analemma traced out over the course of a year choosing the time for displaying the result by a simple flick of your finger..Version: 8.1.0

Amazing app!I can't believe this app is free!! It's one of the coolest iPad apps I've seen so far and I love it! I never take the time to write reviews on here, but this deserves it! It's fun for any age and it's neat to learn about all the stars, plants, and constellations. I like that you can adjust how many stars you want visible on the iPad screen, ranging from only seeing major planets and stars, to seeing every star and planet in the sky. It's hard to imagine any other features to add because it's free and it should be $50, but if they wanted to add something they could make it sink up with the weather and visibility for where you are and the app would know how many stars to show on the screen based on your area's weather conditions. It's definitely 5 stars and one of my favorite apps!!!!.Version: 4.7.0

Pretty AwesomeI have not tried any of the other astronomy apps yet but this one is really quite good and the kids can just about figure it out too. There are some really nifty features such as being able to set how dark your sky is so that it only shows objects you are likely to be able to see. You can also make it show how the sky would look at different times. My only complaint is some of the user interface could be a bit more intuitive - eg touch an object to get its information instead of having to drag it to the center or rotate the ipad towards it. It would also be nice to have it show the sky map inverted i.e. If the iPad is laying flat on the table (instead of being held up towards the sky) east and west should point in their respective directions..Version: 5.2.0

A joy to use and learn fromI have a few star watching apps but this is the best to use. Easy and intuitive and I use it every night to try to learn more about the night sky. Los Angeles doesn't have a lot of the sky visible because of the air and light pollution but I'm lucky that I live a distance from some of it. I love the options and scan the sky looking for planets, major stars and constellations. Took me a while to notice there was an option to limit visible only and explained why I couldn't find some stars that I knew by name but didn't show up. Highly recommend this to anyone, even if it just whet your appetite for something with a little more sophistication , but I'm not there yet and from what this has to offer, it will be quite a while..Version: 8.1.0

So far it's greatI just got this last night so that we could take our new Orion Starblast 4.5 telescope put for a spin. At first I was disappointed with the app because it was not stable meaning the display would drift around. I experienced interference at first and occasionally afyer start up, and no matter what I did it wouldn't go away. But then I thought maybe the Ipad cover (just got a cover with what I realize now is a magnetic latch) was the problem and lo and behold the interface went away and the app display stabilized. We were able to then ID many stars and even locate Jupiter. We used the app to help guide us, as beginner astronomers, around the sky. I think this app will be great fun for a long time.Version: 4.7.0

Speechless after using this app!I don't know what to say. I've never been one who concerned myself with constellations and astronomy. But after using this app I'm completely blown away by what is above me each day. I got this app after my wife asked me about constellations. I could point out the Big Dipper (I'm from Alaska) and Orion, but that was it. I downloaded and tried out this app after seeing the great reviews and I'm just floored with how easy and awesome it is. ANYONE can use it. And it's got a wealth of information there that'll keep me busy for months. More importantly, my mind is opened up and I am now completely fascinated by the stars. Wonderful App! I hope more people like me end up trying it..Version: 4.7.0

Billions and billions!Incredible application! Ever wanted to find the nearest galaxy, nearest star, or just what that flickering light just might be? Now you can stargaze from the comfort of your own home, day or night. Have a telescope? ... The app gives all the technical data. New to astronomy? ... Just point at a highlighted object in the display and a window opens with a description. There's a nighttime setting if you want to take your iPad outside on a clear night and not sacrifice your night vision looking at a bright screen. Constellations are imposed on the star map, so you'll be able to find the king of planets when your horoscope says "Jupiter is in Taurus." You'll also see the majesty of the Milky Way, and better understand our place in it..Version: 4.7.0

Stars are fascinatingThis is incredible. Finally technology meets imagination and here I am in my late forties pointing my iPad to the sky with my kids. As a kid, looking at the sky with a blurry telescope, and a flashlight to barely figure out a chart, and not ever being sure what we were looking at....it kinda sucked. My father who knew nothing but pretended, ultimately was unable to back up our collective fascination with the sky with any technology that worked. I was around 6 and fascinated by the Apollo missions. I question the Apollo missions today as propaganda rather than reality....but the stars around us are amazing, and it's awesome to know what you're looking at! Thanks iPad and Stargazer for making it easy!.Version: 4.7.0

Great as a free appThis is a great app. The night mode comes in handy as you are looking at the stars. There are a couple of things I would change. Using the digital compass as a control works great, until you zoom in. When zoomed in, the compass is overly sensitive and I find myself jumping around the chart while I am trying to focus on a single star. It would be nice if there was a quick toggle in one of the corners, or touch and drag would override the compass control until a large movement was made away. All over I think this is a great app for the casual astronomer or the person thinking "Hmmm, I wonder what that star is?" but not for a precision astronomer like myself. With a few improvements, I'm sure I could give this five stars..Version: 0

Really we'll doneI am an amateur astronomer in the suburbs and after some testing have come to favor this app for my needs. One of its best features (for me at least) is the ability to dial in the limiting magnitude for viewing in your area. It also adjusts the brightness of the objects on the screen, too. For example, a magnitude 3 object is very dim if you have dialed in that as the level of your seeing, but if you have magnitude 5 set as your threshold that same object will appear brighter on the screen. This helps make the sky on the iPad look a lot more realistic when you look out at your own sky and try to find things. Just one of my favorite features of this app..Version: 6.2.1

Good stuff!I teach earth/space science in middle schools and am an avid skywatcher. Really, it doesn't get any easier than this app. This really comes in handy to show my students that the stars and planets are there during the day, we just can't see them. Also, being able to see "through" the Earth and explain that people on the other side of the world are experiencing night and show my kids what the sky looks like to them. The fact that it's free is very nice. Too bad the iPhone version isn't also. But hey, this version free in the classroom and pay for a personal version on my phone... That's ok, I understand it..Version: 4.7.0

Incredible!!!I usually don't write reviews but after getting this for my ipad, but I felt compelled to share my thoughts. This is probably the best, most informative app I've ever seen. I literally just had my 5 year old son outside (up past his bedtime!) looking up at the stars, planets, constellations or whatever else we could discover. I even had to stop him from looking out his window tonight by promising to show him the app tomorrow night! This is truly an unbelievable learning experience which I will be sure to share with my family for years to come. Great job!!.Version: 4.7.0

You will not be disappointedI am still new to iPad/anything Apple. I have been somewhat disappointed by many of the software offerings. This is one of the very few that lives up to the potential of the the iPad platform. Excellent for finding that celestial body you've been trying to locate, or even looking ahead to a future date to see when your favorite planet will be visible at night again. This is an outstanding offering; I am surprised it is free. Thanks for a beautiful and entertaining and useful program! Now, if Apple would allow print to PDF over AirPrint, and add NumLock.......Version: 5.0.0

GreatReally clever. I'd like to be able to see better images of planets etc. To be able to double click them to see them larger, and also have a choice to read up More about them..Version: 0

So much potentialI haven’t been able to use the ap for some time as the compass and calibrations just won’t work. I used to love this program. I’ve tried everything to get it to work.Version: 9.4.0

Amaziing appThis shows the whole night sky and with the built in compass it moves with you as you point your iPad at different parts of the sky it shows you what you pointing at. History of all the stars and constellations through wikipedia. Will find planets, stars constellations, galaxies if it's in the sky this app knows where it is and will point you in the right direction. Get it if you've always wondered what was happening in the night sky..Version: 0

Simply FantasticI'm not sure what the difference is between this and the $5.99 version for iPad. I got this free version and it's simply amazing. Me and the kids were outside last night identifying all the stars and planets which we were never good at before. Highly recommended..Version: 0

Awesome night watch with GoSkyWatchThis app makes it super easy to answer the question "Is that a star or a planet?" or "What star is that?" when looking up at the night sky. The app locates your position on earth and shows all planets, main stars, constellations and near galaxies in real time. Fantastic!.Version: 8.1.0

Great AppLove it. It gives tons of information, helpful and easy to use..Version: 8.1.0

👏Great but can you add some of the things the full version has or just lower the price to like $1.24 instead of what it is now like over 5bucks otherwise pretty good..Version: 8.1.0

Still amazed how this worksNo matter I am...inside or outside... it always works. It's quite fantastic how much info this app has and how accurate it is. It makes me happy when I can find stars and planets just by using it. Yay!.Version: 8.1.0

Excellente applicationRemplace les cartes du ciel, cherche-étoiles, etc. Utile et facile..Version: 8.1.0

Armature astronomerGreat App when I am stargazing. This App let's me know what planets I am looking at..Version: 8.1.0

Exactly what you are looking forThis is the night sky app I was looking for. It knows in which direction you are looking at and will call out the planets for you. No more will you wonder what is this? Is this a planet, a star, a distant constellation? Just point the target on that spot and you will know. The only small critic that I have is that the fonts are not always perfectly readable. I you were glasses, you will sometimes have to twist your head a little bit to get the good reading angle. Just installed this app and and add a good look at the sky from my balcony. Yes, that is Saturn and Mars in the sky. I can't wait to go the country and spend the night looking at all the stars. A must have on all iOS devices!.Version: 8.1.0

Best I've SeenEveryone who has spent a late summer evening in the backyard lying down stargazing (wondering which one is that? How far away are those little points of light? Which planet is visible right now?) should have this app. It's easy to use, gives an amazing amount of information. We love it!.Version: 8.1.0

Hours of Awe.This app is wonderful. My appreciation is as boundless as the sky..Version: 8.1.0

Very good !Super.Version: 7.1.1

A must have appThis simple to use app is wonderful for identifying any major night sky items. Very accurate and helpful for all ages.Version: 8.1.0

Toich the skyI love this app and the fact that it works everywhere. The mysteries of the universe are at your fingertips. It is very interesting and informative..Version: 8.1.0

Useful but imperfectAds make it difficult to use at night. In addition, not as useful for historical use (ie. for writers) because it doesn't take the Gregorian calendar shift into consideration, rendering all historical dates in the Gregorian calendar no matter how far back. For example, Nov 20, 1510 is said to be Sunday and not Wednesday, as it clearly was..Version: 7.1.1

Cardinal pointsI really really like this app. But can you fixe it please? :) It would be great. The cardinal points are not at the right place :(.Version: 7.1.1

Great App, Has Ads, Small FontsGreat app. Not a fan of ads though. The font is a bit small for reading planet and constellation names; would be nice to set a font size..Version: 7.1.1

GoSkyWatchP reviewI like this app very detailed and easy to use as well.Version: 7.1.1

GoodBest app cool but adds should be gone.Version: 7.1.1

Best appFunctions even without wifi! We were on the beach and was a blast..Version: 7.1.1

NiceIt is very useful and easy to use.Version: 7.1.1

Ruined :(It was a 5... now 3. I wish I could get the old version back... Or pay to remove the ads? It used to be one of my favourite apps!.Version: 7.0.0

I deleted this app when they introduced adsIt kind of defeats the purpose of having night-mode when bright ads pop up along the bottom of the map. So disappointing, I really liked this app..Version: 7.0.0
