Scrolling dead zone created by story photosWhen you tap on a link and a story loads, there is almost always a line of photographs that you can side-swipe through. These photos are placed in the center of the screen, and it creates a dead zone for vertical scrolling. To scroll down and read the story, you have to swipe near the top or bottom of the screen instead of in the middle where the thumb naturally sits, because you can't scroll up or down where the photos are. Great reporting, but push notifications are brokenI really value the Associated Press for the news it delivers. In an era of heavy bias, this app remains a go-to for extensive, objective reporting. I rely on it daily to stay informed on what’s actually happening without the spin. The only reason I’m not giving this 5 stars is a persistent technical issue with push notifications. Every time I tap a notification to read a specific breaking story, the app simply opens to the general Home Screen instead of taking me to the actual article. It’s a frustrating extra step to have to go hunting for the story I just clicked on. Some articles in app for weeksI read AP news on an iPad each morning. I’ve noticed that some of the same articles have been there each day for weeks. My iPhone doesn’t seem to have the same problem. It is easier to read articles on the iPad but I am skipping over swaths of articles because they have been there for extended periods of time. Is this an AP updating issue? Or an iOs updating issue? Whenever I click on an individual notification, it immediately takes me to the article in the AP app. This is a grand thing! What happened?Update May 2026 —. I don’t know what changed but this app takes forever to load now. I even deleted and re-added thinking maybe cache was getting too big. When you launch the app it just sits there loading. I don’t know if this is due to the addition of adds and we are waiting on third party loads on top of the news feed load but I’m quickly losing patience after several weeks of this and a few app updates since it started with it not being fixed. And I have 2.5GB internet at my house so it’s not my connection. There is no way you aren’t aware of this issue so what’s taking so long to get performance back to acceptable levels??!!??!! App logs out every time it updatesEvery time the app updates, my account is automatically signed out, which means I stop receiving breaking news notifications. I attempt to log back in, and instead of accepting my login credentials, the app prompts me that my account doesn’t exist and I have to create a new account. Topics don't work to curate so it's all USA all the time.I want to love this app. It's simple, the news stories come up on my Apple Watch - readable and with breaking news - but is it relevant news? No. I was happy to spend time adding topics and sorting them so I'd see what was relevant to me. But the time was wasted as I tried, then retried. And tried again. The topics section does nothing, and even if you delete an irrelevant topic, it undeletes immediately and everything slides back into default order, and it'd all USA, all the time.
