THE PREMIER IPAD ATLAS - with RETINA VECTOR MAPS

The World HD is unique in the app store because it includes both a complete set of country maps AND the largest world fact book. These enable it to answer questions which Atlases and fact books cannot: Atlases show you where countries are located, but have very little information about them; fact books tell you about each country, but their maps leave you guessing about where places are located.

___________ HOW IT WORKS ___________

The interface is animated and interactive. Touch a country on the world map and the Retina vector country map opens while the factbook slides onto the screen, each topic neatly organized as tiles along the edge of the map. Touch a factbook tile and it zooms out to reveal detailed information about that topic. Not sure where a country is located? Select it on the drop-down list and The World HD zooms in on it then opens the map and factbook.

The zoomable world map is not just the fastest way to select a country it also enables you to visualize and understand entire regions. It is so intuitive and easy to explore that once you get started it's hard to stop!

___________ FEATURES ___________

RETINA VECTOR MAPS
** Includes high-resolution Retina vector maps for EVERY COUNTRY built-in! Unlike the other atlases, these maps remain in focus at all magnifications so you can easily see even the smallest detail. These aren't the CIA maps found in the factbooks, they are used in printed atlases.

MORE INFORMATION
** Contains geopolitical and demographic information on 300 countries and regions.

NO INTERNET CONNECTION is required
** Except for live Wikipedia content, all data and maps are built-in

INNOVATIVE FACT BOOK PANEL
** Presents each section of the fact book as tiles enabling you to quickly find what you need, while keeping the country map in view.

HIGHLY ANIMATED INTERFACE
** Responds to your touches and gestures so you can quickly find the information you are looking for.

CIA WORLD FACTBOOK
** This trusted source of current country information is built-in for every country, including sections on: introduction, geography, people, economy, communications, transportation, military, and transnational issues.

WIKIPEDIA
** View the live, community-written Wikipedia content for each country, island, and remote region within the app.

SHOWS YOU where countries are located
** Not sure where a country is located? Select it on the country list and The World zooms to it on the world map and opens the Fact Book Panel

DESIGNED FOR YOUR IPAD & IPHONE
** Thoughtfully uses the whole screen to present maps and data

The World HD App Comments & Reviews

The World HD Positive Reviews

LanguageI wish that we could switch to have commonly used English names for the cities. I use this to increase my knowledge but it is often hard to find the cities, rivers or even small countries as they are only given in the native language..Version: 4.5

It’s okay. The least bad iPad Atlas available. With the demise of the National Geographic World Atlas, this seems to be the best available. The world map is actually quite decent. Unfortunately if you want to look at regional maps, you are restricted to looking at one country at a time, without a way to relate it to the detail maps of other countries, and often presented in a way where part of the country of interest is cut off and can’t be seen in any way. The country maps are tolerable but not great, and to make things worth, much of the screen is wasted with generic information from the CIA Fact Book. When I’m looking for a map, every pixel not dedicated to the map is a pixel wasted! :( I have no objection to the CIA info being put in the app, but the app would be VASTLY improved if the public record CIA stuff was removed and the system for viewing the country maps (and the amount of detail in them) is improved..Version: 3.6.6

Map needs updatingThe app is relatively good at what it does, and more convenient on the iPad than some alternatives. The rendering of the maps seems generally rather good, however there seem to be some inconsistencies especially with the political maps. (For instance, the states of Mexico are sharply demarcated but not the states of Australia or Germany or the provinces of Canada.) In addition, the map presently seems to have some outdated information, for instance “Mount McKinley” in Alaska instead of the correct and official name, Denali; also, it draws the International Date Line through, rather than around, the nation of Kiribati..Version: 4.5

What I was looking for...If you're looking for a flat globe type image that shows all world locations connected, then this will work just fine. I found other maps, but most were sectioned off by continents. This app provides a full connected world view that can be expanded, scrolled across as well as up and down to view how all locations are connected without having to stop and go to a different set of maps to locate an adjoining area..Version: 4.0

Good atlas, clear displayI was looking for a replacement for another world atlas app I’ve been using. It had become dumbed down over the past year or so and I found this. It works well. Easy to quickly find countries and to get more detail about them with a tap on the screen. Maps are displayed very clearly when you zoom in. Happy to have found this app. Hope it’s updated often to reflect global changes. The link to Wikipedia works well too..Version: 3.6.6

Good App- Worth the $This app is a nice alternative to the CIA World Fact Book. It has much of the same info and delivers it in a highly comprehensible, easy to navigate interface. Still has room for improvement and the developers seem dedicated to enhancing their app whenever possible. I've been using the app for a few weeks now and I'm still exploring much of its content..Version: 3.6.6

Outstanding AppThis app is what I’ve been searching for & it doesn’t disappoint. A fantastic general atlas. I can’t tell you how much I’ve used this as a reference source to news stories, novels etc. AND it utilizes a stable interface across the iPad and iPhone. I should point out I’ve used this for close to 2 years prior to writing this review. Outstanding..Version: 4.0

QExcellent app. Has atlas information without needing to be online. Could be improved by having links to move from one country map to the next without needing to redraw the map of the world..Version: 3.6

Solid App at the Right PriceQuick to load and access, lots of detail, and no online access required. Definitely going to be my go-to world map from now on..Version: 4.5

Great appThis is a good set of maps for learning geography & great for following along while watching international news. Don't give them a bad rating. If you want details, just click in the nation. If you want street details, then buy a garmin or city/state map..Version: 3.6

My Go To App for Travel or Just Good InformationBeen using this app for years. All good current information; I don't know what the complaints are about. Sure, more details are available, but for a quick update, this app is best..Version: 3.6

One of the best for off line viewingLove the details even in offline mode and has lots of interesting information about countries. Keep up the good work and make it even better perhaps..Version: 3.6

Where’s the rest? The maps are fairly detailed in terms of countries and cities, but that’s it. Provinces, counties and many bodies of water are not identified. Those that are, aren’t always clear. Yet another map app that leaves me wanting..Version: 4.5

Needs moreNeeds to have counties in the states. At least. This could be easily added in an update..Version: 4.0

Greatest App for World Politics FanI've used this app for several years as a reference while reading the newspaper and books. It is excellent and always accurate. Henry.Version: 3.6

Where is National Geographic? This app is just ok, nothing compared to National Geographic world atlas app that’s no longer available it seems. Out of the available options as of today, this seems to be the best one. But, I keep looking for something better..Version: 4.0

Great AtlasExcellent vector map w a fine level of detail when zooming in. Need explanation of what the colors signify in terms of topography. A Legend would be helpful. Otherwise very pleased w app..Version: 3.6

Very UsefulVery useful. I don’t care, personally, for the typestyle, but I use the app just about every day for world events..Version: 4.5

Excellent for the newsIf you are looking for maps to follow the world news, this works great..Version: 3.6

Missing KeyThere doesn’t seem to be a key as to what various symbols mean..Version: 4.5

Fantastic appThis is a really great atlas and probably the best there is for international pilots since we want the big picture..Version: 4.0

Has always worked wellGreat job..Version: 4.0

Nice little programWorks like I wanted, just like an Alta's! Nice having the info bar..Version: 3.6

Almost perfect. This is a really useful atlas and world fact book. I find myself using it both for specific travel planning purposes as well as helping obtain background on breaking world events. I particularly enjoy the ability to use it when not connected to the internet. The huge download is worth it from that perspective. I would give it the full five stars but for one niggling problem. Almost every time I launch the app it misfires and returns to the iPad home screen. Second attempt to launch always works and it recovers nicely. I really enjoy this program and highly recommend it. Keep up the good work!.Version: 2.2

Ridiculous review writingI am 70 years old, thank you fellow- reviewer, and have several degrees and I LOVE THIS!.Version: 3.6

FinallyThe atlas I have been waiting for..Version: 4.5

The Best Atlas on the App Store!I use this app constantly in my political science class as a teaching tool. When we are discussing a foreign country it helps to bring this up to give the students a frame of reference. The maps and data are the best I've seen and I've tried them all. The maps are atlas quality (I'm sure I've seen them before, but not sure which printed atlas) and they work better than Google maps which have more detail but are really hard to use as a reference since large cities and small cities just mix together with the same small text. I see some negative reviews here about the maps, but I can't imagine what they are expecting. These maps are very good! The CIA factbook and Wikipedia let us drill down into the details and are up to date. Since our textbook is a couple years old, I often go here to check information. I really like the data cards interface - very quick and easy to use. I was surprised when I accidentally touched on the Canary Islands, which isn't a country, and up came the info on it too! It's very comprehensive. Overall just an outstanding ap!!!.Version: 2.3

School Super Tool!I use this app extensively while teaching geography and world affairs. I wish we had more tools like this in the school. Being able to hold a map of this quality and then zoom into it, seeing the countries which border each other, then facts about them while still viewing the map, is pure teaching magic! The interactive map engages the students to explore the globe and draws them in to learning more. I have never seen a teaching tool as good as this. Geography and world affairs is now their favorite part of the day (it was challenging) and their knowledge level has jumped forward..Version: 3.2

Professional MapsAs a USAF pilot I love maps and am always on the lookout for good ones. This app contains the BEST MAPS on the iPad. Period. The maps were drawn by GeoAtlas and are beautiful and professional-quality. They are up-to-date (including South Sudan) and they show all the geographic features and all but the smallest hamlets in every country and island. Also, they are all built-in. In addition to the maps, the World Fact Book is built-in as well as Wikipedia for each country. These are great sources of info, possibly the best, for understanding the history and current situation in a country. The interface is my favorite part of the app. You just touch a country to view it. The fact book is like a deck of cards, making it easy to find a section. Overall, this app is built to be used and I can tell a lot of care went into the design..Version: 3.2

Super AtlasOne of the "check this out!" apps I show people who haven't used an iPad. It's a first rate atlas, just like the one in our bookshelf, but with even better maps. Plus it has the CIA fact book for every country. The interface is cool (touch a country to see its map) and is easy to pick up and use, in fact I often open it while watching TV. You can't navigate a car or an airplane with the maps, but their authentic atlas look is the best for seeing where places are located. Highly recommended!.Version: 3.2

One of my favorite iPad apps.Of all the iterations of the CIA World Factbook I like this one the best. Maps and layout look good on the iPad. Update 12 Jun 12.......still one of my favorite iPad apps. Yes, maps are high resolution and render a little slow on the new iPad, that's a lot of pixels. Of course there's not enough map detail to go driving...that's not what it's for. It's perfect for the presentation of basic maps and CIA World Factbook data. 6 stars if I could. Update Oct 14......still love it. Hope it continues to be updated......Version: 3.5

Great for traveling!!This app is an essential part of my travel kit. I am a frequent flyer (finally hit 1M miles in January!) and I LOVE my iPad. This app and the WSJ are my two favorites on it. It's a great reference and I really enjoy reviewing where I've been on the maps and learning about places I'm traveling to. It simply has a TON of information and maps which make those long legs and layovers go by quickly. If you're looking for a travel companion, you really can't go wrong with this one. Just buy it!.Version: 3.2

This is the bestThis is the best world atlas that I have found. The major plusses are 1) best quality maps - better resolution than the National Geographic Atlas, and 2) the maps are resident on your I-pad which is great for world travelers not always in touch with the Internet. But there is one thing lacking: inability to show your present position as reported by an attached GPS receiver. I suggested this to the developer - we will see what happens..Version: 3.2

Great app for world info junkies! Its for sure the best app of its kind in the App Store. Far better than the world factbook for iPad. The ability to pan through the map and to select a specific country is great. You dont have to know the name of the country. You just look at the map, recognize the country and after you tap it, you get all CIA based info. Its great!!! Highly recommended! And it's just 99 cents!.Version: 0

A wonderful atlasI have been using this atlas for a couple years of college. It's good and I have no problems with the speed or details like some other reviewers. You really can't compare it to other atlases for the iPad since NONE of them have vector maps. These are in a class by themselves. If you are a geographer, you know what I mean. If you are looking for a good atlas, this one will not disappoint..Version: 3.3

Nice maps!I've been looking for an app with useful maps that did not require an internet connection....this has been a long time coming. Finally, maps that have a level of detail that makes them useful! I have one suggestion: It would be lovely to expand search so I could look up a city, lake, river etc and be directed to the right country. I imagine this would be a significant undertaking in terms of compiling and indexing the data...but it would be quite handy. Thanks for doing a nice job. I'm sorry to hear that people have been submitting inappropriate reviews..Version: 2.2

Nice maps, poor usabilityI use this software while reading history books. When I go to the internet to look something up while I'm reading, and then go back to this app, it is back on the opening map of the world. You have to hit search and retype the area of interest and wait for it to load again and recenter it to where you had it. VERY ANNOYING. It is true that the maps are pretty..Version: 3.2

Perfection!!!!Perfect app and complements my other geographic apps perfectly. Beautiful job!!! Exactly what I wanted and needed in a map and geographic information!! Runs so smoothly!!! I LOVE this app. I don't have room for many of my apps, but no matter how little space I have, I will not give up this app. I am learning a ton, and the maps are GORGEOUS!!!!.Version: 3.3

Great MapI love this app & I use it quite often. When I am reading about a region I like to go and take a closer look at it. This works perfect for that. It gives so much good information about each area too. I have & continue to recommend this to other users..Version: 3.3

Simple mais peut-être trop simple.Le passionné de géographie restera sur sa faim mais le néophyte appréciera la simplicité. Application en langue anglaise seulement..Version: 4.5

Decent appNothing fancy. Nice and crisp country maps. Can’t complain..Version: 4.5

Simple mais efficaceBonne application qui fait ce pourquoi elle a été développée. Rien de fancy mais efficace et robuste comme application..Version: 4.5

World hdExcellent Quick référence tool..Version: 4.5

World HDPretty Good App. I use it frequently. Colours are nice, detail about right for overview. Text boxes are not very useful, could be improved..Version: 3.3

The world at your finger tips!My wife and I are lucky enough to have visited close to 125 countries. This atlas allows me to relive travel memories from over 50 years, but always also to plot new adventures. Clear, informative and easy to use. Clive Jackson, Vancouver, Canada..Version: 3.6.6

Best Atlas Available for iOSThis truly is the bst Atlas available on iOS. Stunning visuals, great details and love the fact that you can switch between terrain maps and political maps. Also, CIA/Wikipedia facts are a great addition. If you’re into Atlases, this one is a must!.Version: 3.6.6

ExceptionalExceptional tool as an international traveller wondering about the land below in flight..Version: 3.6

Very GoodThis app is very well made and can be very useful in history and geography school classes.Version: 3.1

GreatI love this im a student in sec 1 very easy to use love it ! :).Version: 3.3

Kinda GoodIts good but laggy.Version: 3.2
