About Wx For IPhone (Craig Hunter)
Wx also lets you receive current conditions data from nearby NWS observation sites (over 1700 available in the U.S. and its territories), get radar data from nearby NEXRAD radar sites, and receive warnings from nearby city- and county-based alert zones.
Wx lets you bookmark and setup weather maps for quick reference. Choose from some default NWS maps and images, or provide the URL for any map of your choice and load it right in the app! If you have preferred weather providers, you can load your favorite maps and images right in Wx and keep them handy.
Wx is crafted with attention to detail by a professional software developer with 29 years of experience, 15 years focused on developing weather software for OS X and 12 years writing apps for iOS devices. Wx has multiple levels of redundancy to handle severe weather events that can strain NWS servers, and even offers network settings for both Wi-Fi and cellular operation so that you can fine tune the app’s performance and bandwidth needs.
Wx is also available for the iPad and OS X. See hrtapps.com for more info.

It’s great that you can add custom map links, as this allows me to access ‘latest’ images for a lot of different less mainstream maps like GMU, SSEC, or NCAR upper air maps. However, we can only link jpegs, and it would be amazing to add functionality for animated GIFs and PDFs as well, which would open up a lot of additional options for providers that only use those formats, like many of the NOAA products like GOES, and others use. Right now when I try to use an animated GIF or PDF it just says “download error.” Nonetheless, great app, customizability is an awesome feature that the other apps don’t provide.
As a long time Dark Sky user I began looking for a new weather app when I heard Dark Sky was being shut down. I tried many weather apps and rejected them all due to inaccurate weather predictions, monthly subscriptions, poor app layout, etc. I then found Wx and it is one of the best apps I have ever purchased. Wx is nicely laid out without being cluttered, provides accurate weather data for my area, and is quick to load while being easy on battery life. My thanks to the developer for a reasonably priced app that is well laid out and works great. Job well done!
I have 3 favorite weather apps. Wx is the one I refer to first, and use the most. The text information and alerts are accurate and very informative. It's a beautifully designed and intuitive, easy-to-use app. I like how easy it is to save favorite locations, so you can see the weather forecast for your favorites, for family and friends, or places where you'll be traveling. I like that you can send weather and alert information via email or texts to family who might unknowingly be traveling into bad weather conditions. It's a great, reliable app, with no ads! :)
Now in saying that in the title I have had the app for about a year about a month ago I went to open it and its just shuts off. I tried again and it did the same. It works great wit my ipad but still cant get it to work with my iphone. I bought the bundle and th rest works flawlesly Im sure Ill get it working 2 months ago I would havegiven it a 5 star
This app is excellent! A huge Thank You to the developer for maintaining this app over the years. If you’re a visual person like me, the graphs are indispensable (especially dew-point), and I love that the source is straight from the NWS. The app is small but mighty, and doesn’t rely on gimmicks. 11/10 I use it all year long!

WX is the best weather app of all time. I’ve seen dozens of apps come and go over the years and I always return to the first app I installed on my iPod all those years age: WX. Always works, easy to use, and never a request to pay for updates. (I am hoping the developer releases an update to support the new NWS radar format. I’d gladly pay 4.99 just for that)
Hunter Research & Technology makes truly Fine applications. I’m still disappointed with the loss of the neon digital display which was eliminated many updates ago… The neon LED type display was what made this app stand out from the others for me. I guess I’ll just have to get over it.
I like the flow of the prof, but it seems you cannot use complex urls, or possibly just https. Please include that. Thanks
Had the AccuWeather App for quite a few years, (even endured their money grab barraging me with advertising to purchase their monthly subscription), but this WX App is much better! Love it! Don’t change it!
There are other apps out there with more funding and a slicker UI, but this one consistently delivers the best information.
Gives me just what I need in weather. Simple layout. Beautiful.
Needs a Celsius option.
I'm a sucker for weather maps and, at last, there's an app where I can add my own weather maps that are easily accessed. I also love that there are thumbnail images of each map in the list. As for the features within the local weather currents and forecasts, the pro tab is quite nifty. Love those graphs. Also, I really appreciate the ability to choose from more than just the official reporting stations, which are typically the major airport of a given locale. That helps to tailor the data to that most similar to where I live. The animated radar map is easily accessible via a tab, which is nice. There are a couple suggestions that I'd like to see implemented in future updates: the ability to organize the maps into folders and the ability to swish from one map to the next and avoid having to go back to the list to go to the next map. Also, I would like to be able to edit each map listing to change its URL and name. Right now, I have to delete a listing for a map and add a new one each time the URL for that map changes, which is an hassle.
I'm a long-time user of Wx for the Mac, and I was happy to see this app become available. So far, I'm very happy with it. The layout is very clean and easy to use. The developer has outlined some of the improvements in an upcoming update. Also, he is always quick to respond to questions or issues.
I have used a previous version of this app on my Mac computer and now this new version (6). I like the way all the information is presented, especially the full text of the forecasts. The "pro" forecast graphs are pretty neat too. The ability to select different maps is a plus. I like to be able to see the "Feels Like" temperature too. I also like and use The Weather by Clink Apps and My-Cast Weather Radar by Digital Cyclone.
I've been a longtime user, and lover, of the desktop app. The recent upgrade while I liked it, seemed a slight step back, until now. The iPhone app behaves, and looks exactly like the desktop app. I got used to the new interface on the desktop, and after 5 mins on the iPhone I had everything just the way I wanted it. Great job, and fantastically useful app(s)
This is a sweet little app that went straight to my dock. It gives me the simple summary that I want for most days, and radar and bulletins are just a tap away when weather's coming. The information is incredibly precise, because it's pulled from the nearest sources. A really smart app with understated robustness that's there when you need it.
IPhone version on my 6s Plus crashed every time on launch. iPad version works fine on my iPad Pro.I deleted the iPhone version from my iPhone and App library and re-down;oaded the Wx for iPhone app and reinstalled it. That fixed the problem. Works great now.
My first concern is that there isn't a lot of observation areas. My last concern is that it doesn't update that well, it updates every hour. If these concerns change, 5 stars. But great app and its worth to get.
I think this is the second review I've written since owning an iPhone (circa 2010). I have to write this one. My absolute favorite weather app of all time stopped working with iOS10. I thought that was it. But NO!! You did it!! Thank You!! Great app and so glad to have it back.
Nice weather program, support web site is rather dismal. This version started crashing today, July 2, 2012, on my iphone 4s, latest OS, and it's also crashing on my new ipad. :(
Worked great until this evening. Now it insists I am using the expired beta!?!? I assume the developer forgot to remove the expiration code from his beta before getting it onto app store. Shame on Apple for not catching this!
Nothing fancy, just the latest weather conditions, forecast, and radar/maps from the NWS in a clear and concise format.
I just got this app two days ago and like it very much. It has all the info I need and I really like the radar map!!! Very good job!!
This is my preferred iOS and Mac weather app. It does everything I need, no more and no less. Essentially perfect.
This app brings everything i need in one place. Extemely well designed and easy to use.
I do a lot of work on remoter communication towers on mountains. When we need to know the weather forecast and wind speeds this is super awesome.
In my opinion, the best of class. developer is prompt and professional.
I have two airport locations on my iPhone that are 15 miles from each other, I live 7. 5 miles from each. I checked each this morning 1/9/17@0600. The northern location info taken at 0453 the southern taken at 0455. Somebody's radioing the findings! 44* and 63* wind from the West 270* @ 7 mph and Northeast 050* @ 23 mph with identical barometers @ 30.46 and dew points/ RH @ 41F / 89% the other @ 48F / 60%. This APP is only as good as the operator. In this case -- the northern airport it's 44*.
Wx For IPhone Negative Reviews and Ratings
I love weather apps that decide to get their info directly from the source (NWS). Great app for any weather enthusiast but minus a few stars because it appears as though it has been abandoned. Would love to see an update for larger screens.
Just crashes on launch. Bought with package.
Yep
I'm a long time user of this app on iphone and ipad and I hoped the update would bring improvements, but I was wrong. The current page digits are too big in this new version making it necessary to scroll down to view all of the current data. The ability to customize light or dark is now gone. I prefer the dark blue. The settings page has a very cluttered and disorganized look. The rest of this app looks and functions like it did before.
Don't waste your time or money. Stations are so far away as to be completely useless. This app pulls information from weather stations that are not only many miles away but are in completely different climate zones that may be a 30 degree temperature difference from where I am, or may be in a full blown rain storm while I'm in full sun. Sorry I got suckered.
This app has potential but as of today the attempt to load it fails because a pop up states 'Beta version has expired' ......HELP
Had good reviews, but upon installation it would be nice if it worked after paying for an app. Keeps displaying error loading messages.
Does not let me add locations. When I try it crashes.
