Night Sky Customer Service

I’ve been recently comparing Astronomy viewing apps and Night Sky has now become my definitive go-to stargazing app. Immediately after downloading & installing the app I purchased a yearly subscription for only $9.99 because the “Night Sky Tonight” feature is a MUST have for anyone serious about nighttime gazing. Not only does it show an animation of what you’ll be able to see that night, it also lists the planets with their rises & sets, satellites, viewing conditions, pollution map & nearby dark sites. Their “Get Info” button for everything takes you to a page full of extensive details & additional photos of the object. The Apple Widget is perfect for letting me know current viewing conditions and with a graphical representation of when it will be optimum. Their notifications are also some of the best I’ve experienced, spanning, not only, news about objects to currently view, but viewing conditions as well. Then there’s basic, but very nice unique features, like the pseudo horizon cityscape and the ability to share objects you’re viewing. They also have a built-in photo app with special nighttime camera features not even found in Apple’s own camera app. I love my Apple Watch & some apps fail, but not Night Sky! Raise your wrist to identify objects, lower it & you’ll get a compass and an overview of the objects you can currently see. Then spin the crown forwards or backwards and watch as you can time travel the viewable objects around you. Overall it’s an absolutely incredible app for novices & serious amateur astronomers alike! You won’t be disappointed!

If u want an app that shows u what u can see in the sky, this is decent, but it also shows u so many other things u can’t see in the sky, that are way far away. Then they make those things just as bright on the map as the things u can see in the sky. So sometimes you are clicking from star to star, staring in the sky, really having to figure out what star you are looking at. Other times like with a planet it’s obviously simple. This app would be perfect for an astrology student or scientist. But for the average person, they need to make it so the closest and brightest objects in the sky are the brightest objects on the sky map to make it easier to figure out which star you are seeing. I really like how they show the constellations, tell you when something is rising and setting, and much more. It also gives you extremely detailed and scientific information that the average person won’t understand, so the information could be presented a littler simpler, and that’s coming from san intelligent person. Like I said, this app is heaven for a scientist. Overall, I use it and like it, but it could be a little easier to use, and planet and star descriptions could be written better. It’s almost like they take all the most detailed scientific jargon they can find and jam it into as many paragraphs as they can instead of presenting the information in a scientific yet digestible way. I’m not saying dumb the info down, but make it more fun to read. I love the planets, stars, and everything in the sky, so if I feel this way, I know others do too. Last thing is the sky map is always a few degrees off of the compass on your phone and you will need to adjust it. Otherwise when you point at something it’ll appear slightly to the left or right on your sky map.

This app truly humbles you, that moment when you open the app you can see everything! Stars galaxy’s,planets,the Milky Way, and even satellites. One of my favorite features is that your able to view most if not all objects in an interactive 3D space. It’s a beautiful app with stellar accuracy. A problem you will see is that it’s not 100% accurate when you look to the sky but that’s an easy fox just find the section to put in your current location and when you do I promise it gets much more accurate. I personally have a telescope and this app truly fascinates me, I use it to help find objects I use it to help see what objects are there’s just so much good in the app with or without the subscription. The app also has many other various features such as the news category which fills you in on all the latest new regarding astronomy. I personally love the app and am sure you will love it too!

I’ve been using Nightsky for a long little while now. I found it by going through Trial and Errors of trying to find the best app to look at the sky. I’ve sat i went though 5-6 apps before I was happy with my choice. It’s offers you so many features without even paying for it, as you would have to do for any other app. It’s crazy. Because it’s a free app that offers you AR experiences to blend with your night sky, real time constellations, stars, galaxies, Nebulas, satellites, and even major NASA things like, Hubble Telescope, International Space Station, Meteor Showers And so much more. It has tours of planets too. They also have media news updates everyday about anything going on in space like, The Mercury and Mars Conjunction and Major things that will be able to be seen with the Naked Eye. I’ve dragged this on for too long but, over all it’s the best app to use for everyone who likes Astronomy and for Astronomers. -Iyana

So, I’ve had this for a while. This is my first review however. It’s usually pretty solid. No complaints. I haven’t used it in a while and just did the update. There’s a My Views feature that I’m trying to use for an upcoming trip. The app crashes/shuts down every time I choose a date and time and press save. It doesn’t matter if it’s my location or a far flung one. Tonight or a month from now. Just crashes. It’s annoying. Also the Night Sky Views and Stargazing Event tabs don’t work. Says something about internet connection. My internet is working perfectly fine everywhere else (even the rest of the apps features). All in all I like the app. The latest upgrade does have some bugs/glitches. Or maybe it’s me. Could be. Don’t think so though. Just a note, I’ve used the free version until tonight. I just upgraded to the free trial. Not sure if or how that’s effecting it’s performance although I’d imagine it would normally be better.

I downloaded this app because my three-year old son and I like going outside at night just before his bedtime to play and look at the moon and stars, and I just wanted to be able to tell him which planets and constellations we were seeing. This app did that and so much more. I had no idea what was orbiting our planet! I also love the widget. My son also likes to use the AR feature in the house and sit the sun or the moon in our living room. I haven’t used even half of what the app offers yet and I decided to purchase the lifetime subscription. I wanted the full experience for when I was ready to use it, but mostly I felt that even the free features were worth the price. I did run into an issue where the app was not recognizing that I was Premium. Every time I opened it, it thought I was a free user and then I had to “restore purchase” to get it to work again. I emailed customer service for help and they were super responsive and worked with me to try to figure out what was wrong. The latest update fixed the issue. Overall, we’re thrilled with what this app has to offer - I’m learning so much! - and recommend to anyone looking for a great star gazing app.

I had this app on my prior phone and I loved it. I put it on my big screen and just let it play. The music was actually very nice. I’ve never written review before and can’t believe that I’m doing it now, but I saw some negative stuff and I don’t agree. I didn’t have a problem, I had a 7+ iPhone move up to the 13 Pro Max 512 memory really quick and I think I get unlimited service on Wi-Fi so cellular so at night time my spin around in my driveway and hope I see some UFO go by but that’s not written into the program that’s running so the colors are good. The owls are out I go for a 10 o’clock walk with my cane. And dog spray just in case I get attacked again yeah that’s the only thing I use on my phone I’m 75. OK bye now.

Hi! So I posted a review not too long about the entire app and with the update this app is the number 1 night sky app! So first off AR Sky Blending isn’t lagging anymore. It’s smooth and I can actually find the stars I want to see in the sky. Last review I said it was inaccurate, but now it’s pretty accurate. Next, I would like to tell just how much better this app is than the other night sky apps. So there’s an app called sky guide and sky guide costs $2.99 and it’s “The Best” night sky app. I decided to compare this app to that app. Holy. Night sky was better in every single way. It was easier to use, had more features, it showed the names, and had better detail. And I haven’t made any purchases on night sky. I could go on but I still have school work. I do have a couple of questions. How come Neptune is rotating so fast and spinning clockwise? If Neptune did actually rotate on its axis like that then this app should get 6 stars but it doesn’t. Second, what does the red/black button do? (The button that makes the app red and black) I have no clue what it’s suppose to be for. Overall massive improvements and I hope to give an even better review some time.

This app is incredible and it is very fun and educational! Every morning I leave for work before the sun rises and I see the same patterns of stars and constellations that I can recognize like any normal person. But then I started noticing the changes in stars as the seasons went by, so I became curious as to what stars were which, especially since some were so much brighter than others. Turns out I’ve been looking at Venus the whole time, and I never would have known this if not for this app. You can also tap on anything you see to learn more information, including satellites, Jupiter’s moons, far off nebula, etc. I even found the Hubble telescope way out there in the sky with the app! You can even locate the International Space Station with this app. Definitely worth 5 stars.

I built a house that I could sit on and watch my stars and in the process injured my eyes that I can’t see clear anymore. Tonight I downloaded this app and sat in the cold frigid lovely on the roof built with my broken body and I wept. Wept because I never lost faith that this roof would be my launching pad. I didn’t know it would take an app 5 years later to see my home star far from the nothingness I feel here in exile. But I bet the artists who made this tech Mona Lisa didn’t know that the worlds loneliest hermit would see redemption through this, such a work of art. Used to love this app and there are multiple settings that have been lost over time. The last nail in the coffin is this new “widget” design which informs me that URANUS is Going Down. It used to show me stargazing conditions and weather and more useful things. Super lame evolution of what could’ve been a useful tool. You used to be able to change visibility and now you can’t. You used to be able to change the date/time of the stars you’re looking at easily. Now I can’t figure out how to close the absurdly over informative pop ups that have tiny text. Again, super disappointed as a star lover that this app has succumbed to “look” instead of function. Sorry night sky.

This app brings together information that I otherwise would need to bounce between 3 or 4 apps and Wikipedia. Combining this info in one place increases both the efficiency at the telescope and the enjoyment of sky gazing. I don’t have a GoTo telescope mount so access to the dimmer magnitude stars (above 7) makes star-hopping to find faint nebulae and galaxies far easier. I am also very impressed with their support. My one “problem” was answered within 4 hours, and followup help even faster. It’s so nice to get help from people who both know their product and the challenges in the general field of its use. (They not only know where the buttons and menus are, but know astronomy and why you need the button as well)!

I purchased the app a long time ago and haven’t been enjoying it since unfortunately after the recent updates I have not been able to log back on and when I hit the button that says restore purchases it just continues to load and does not allow me access. I sent an email to support and I am waiting to see if they can help me resolve my issue being that I have already paid for the app and have not been able to access it for sometime otherwise the app is fantastic I love it and while I was deployed in the army many of my battle buddies were fascinated with how accurate and informative it is others wound up buying the app themselves

The more I go outside at night and watch what comes into view, the more I love looking at the Stars, Planets, Meteorites and everything else that makes it so special. Most people don’t know what they are missing . Most don’t realize that a star that doesn’t twinkle is not a star but is one of the planets in our solar system. I Love seeing Meteorites and writing down which Planet, Star it started burning up and which one it either broke up or slowed down enough so others can figure out what they see to be able to try and hope to help others to get an idea of where what area it landed in hopes to find it by triangulating where it might land and get something so precious and valuable.

This is seriously the most amazing app you can ever download into your iPhone. I can’t believe how amazing it is to see space live, see the satellites moving, and gives information like what date it was launched, where it launched, and show descriptions of different stars and planets. It uses all AR, and it is amazing to see planets and satellites so closely and detailed. I am in love with how this app is made, and for sure deserves more than 5 stars. Developers: You have done such an outstanding amazing job with this app. Highly recommended for anyone who loves space and is into science; or just curious about live space. Love this app, and will always recommend people to have it in their iPhones.

Nice app for my iPad. Good graphics. Most of all, I like its usefulness. As an amateur astronomer, I’d like to get the most out of least effort... I want to stargaze rather than play with the electronics. Setup makes that happen. I also like the notifications given before a noteworthy event occurs. Moving the iPad over the sky like a planetarium is sweet especially with an uncomplicated horizon. 2 criticisms. 1) I’d wish the app could overlay the equatorial and RA/Dec across the sky. The ecliptic is helpful but just not quite enough. 2) I’d like to be able to reduce/increase the number of stars, especially in lieu of light-pollution. The more obvious the target, the easier it is to match up map to sky. There’s a bit of a learning curve over my other device. Having said that, I really like this app and look forward to using it.

My stepmom’s family along with my 6 brothers, dad, and I have gone up to the upper peninsula of Michigan for a week in early October since I was really little. Last year we went and we usually hang out at my meema and papa’s RV that they keep up there at a campsite near the bridge until it’s really late and we need to go back to our cabin. Anyway, my dad brought these rocking folding chairs and when I leaned back, I saw a shooting star. We were pretty far north so it was easy to see the sky. I begged my dad to download an app so we could see the sky and even though it’s a bit off he downloaded this one and it was so cool. There was a mention shower happening right above us and we saw so many satellites. 9/10 app, only took one off because it’s a little bit off.

I was simply wasting away at home, when a bored search led me to this app. Intrigued, I downloaded it. It seemed rather well-made, so I continued. I fiddled around with some things after swiping through the tutorial, and I was astonished. There are so many great features to this app that fascinated me, for example— the augmented reality, where the app mapped out the heavens across my bedroom ceiling. The stargazing aides, that help you find a nice, quiet park on the right day and with the right conditions. Or the notifications that can literally alert you when the International Space Station is flying over your head— or when a Uranian dawn breaks. There’s so much to this app, and if you have any interest in astronomy-or astrology- try this app out.

I wanted to be an astronomer when I was younger because learning about the stars and planets and other extraterrestrial bodies was always so fascinating. I have never looked up to the sky and seen something other than magnificent beauty, and with this app I can bring back my childish wonder and appreciation for learning. Being able to identify the seemingly insignificant dots in the dark sky brings a sense of joy I honestly can’t describe. I really love how much information you can find on each and every speck in the universe. Maybe there are flaws in this app just like any other creation, but I believe that I’ll be able to look past any that I come across due to the purity I’ve found in this money-making scheme. So much fun. You get a lot of great ,real time stars in all directions. We went to a local observatory on a whim and my wife showed me this app. It is a fantastic guide to the other part of Mother Nature. We saw Jupiter and Saturn , along with the waxing moon through the telescopes and the app had us walking around in the dark filled with wonder, able to see with our naked eyes and identify cuz of the app. I literally love this app. The notifications give me relevant planet positions as they happen and keep me engaged in the heavens throughout my day, and that really makes the day better. Once you poke at it some you figure it out. It’s relatively intuitive as well as easy to understand instruction wise. Get the app.

I loved the app but did not love the “Glass Constellations” that kept blocking my view and for me it was a distraction for me personally. I looked in app but the options and menu choices are so many (a very detailed app with lots of options) I got lost and did not know how to disable these. This is where the great support came in. Quickly the developer replied to my question and showed me hoe to disable these in the preferences. If you have that same concern just follow their direction and go to preferences and there are 3 boxes or buttons you can tick off for glass constellations. I just ticked all 3 off so I can see the night sky clear and beautiful. This app is an awesome support for knowing what’s in space around us. Thank you!

I was born with hereditary condition that was passed down from my grandfather. Before it started affect on me at the age of 10. I would stay out side at my parents on te trampoline and look up at the stars and be amazed. Of how beautiful and amazing how much there is out there that most of us so no little about. So when that started and my vision started getting a little blurry I tried and tried so hard to look back up but i couldn’t. I down loaded this other app that was free at the time and it gave me the same feeling. But iv always loved astronomy and the way it never has changed. And it never has an ending. So with that being said thank you so much.

I absolutely LOVE this star app. I like how you can tap on an object and look more closely at it. The only thing is, I don’t know if it’s my phone or the app, but I tapped on a space station and it went to my photos like it should, but then it went black and went off of the app. It happened like 5 times. Again, I don’t know if it’s just my phone or not though. But other than that I think that this app is really cool. I use it for my telescope to look at planets. Thanks for reading! It seems to work alright,but I live outside of town an with the light pollution I cannot see that many stars. Well I can’t see the hundreds of stars they show.......I had written about how with the light pollution that I could not make out the stars that I could see compared with the Hundreds of stars that are shown on the screen. So I gave the APP 3 Stars but I was contacted by email by the company. I had no idea that if you place 2 fingers on the screen an swipe down all of the stars are removed,except for the ones that I can see. WOW what a difference! Thanks again for your email and help or I would have never been able to enjoy the night sky like I can now.

I really love this app, especially the 3D models, but I have a problem- every once in awhile it crashes and I have to go back in. How do I fix that? I have iPad 7th generation. Thanks. Updated response: hi I have two other issues: 1. Can there be a button instead for the premium offer because whenever I zoom out really far to look at the galaxy it pops up, and it’s kind of annoying. 2. There’s this glitch or something where when I search for “Earth” in the search bar and click the button for the 3-d model, all I see is empty space. Could that be fixed? Over all, this is a great app! 😀

Except no other. Yes you may find others on the App Store. Yes you might find it cheaper. But you won’t get a super detailed super advanced app like this. What a great way to share those insomnia nights with the kids. Maybe not the younger younger ones but pre teens on up I think it’s a kool way to bond if your kid is into this. It’s awesome it’s informative it’s mind blowing. I haven’t used the display on ceiling yet.(not sure what it’s called) but I’m excited. If you like to enjoy a little can a bliss then check out the awesome sky above then this app is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥Enjoy it. Yes you will just be careful if ya hung out with indica ya might wake up on the blanket a little later. Lol. Great app.

So cool to see so many sculptures, satellites and planets! It's very beautiful!

Never knew my way around the biggest parts of my own neighborhood. Now I have a roadmap and I’m finding my way around a little. Jupiter is a real thing now. My world is so much bigger. I now know what I’m looking at in a way I never saw before. Very cool. Very empowering. The kids love it so much too.

Astounded me

Excellent App that should be on the perquisite list in every school system in the country. A very creative learning tool that initiates interest in science and space and provides a platform for young learners to broaden their interests in these areas.

Gives you a clear picture of the constipations and easy to use. Would defiantly recommend this.

So cool! I love just looking at the stars and being able to see their names. I also love tapping on them to read about them. Great app!

I maybe open it a few times a year mostly when I’m drunk outside but it’s my favourite app and I’m wowed every time. The music just adds that extra touch. You can see the name of everything in the sky including starlink satellites and at night you can look through the earth and see the sun on the other side. Awesome

Just learning how to use this app but it has been so informative so far. With gos location and a summary of what is happening in the sky at that location is extremely helpful!

It's a delight to use this app! It's super intuitive, very well made and extremely helpful app. Being an amateur astronomer and the owner of an dobsonian, it saves so much time in finding the right object to look at! The best part is the aurora tracking, just because of this app I was able to chase and see the aurora for the first time and it was mind blowing!

I love this app but lately it’s not picking up everything. There is a bright object to the top left of the moon right now, in close relation visually, and it’s not registering on the app. I gave it the benefit of the doubt that the bodies showing up a little further out were it but none of them lined up with position in the sky in relation and visual proximity to the moon. The app used to be spot on. Second time in 2 months I’ve been disappointed with as many times using it. Last time it wouldn’t show me where the moon was at all when I was trying to brag about the app to friends. Next night: It was Mars. Why wouldn’t it be superimposed over one another and have something that says what it is? And when you try to zoom in to a local body you get visually flooded with our local cluster of galaxies (honestly, that’s annoying. I know it’s a combination of our galaxy with other galaxies mingled in, but help me learn from local bodies! At least give a staged zoom prompt where you can zoom to the inner planets, then the outer planets, then the galaxy, followed by the super clusters if you wanna take it deep lol. Also, this used to have a super easy to use function where you type in a local body and arrows guide you to its location in the sky. Why would you get rid of that?! 🤷‍♂️

Update. I started using sky guide and it is must easier to use. If you just want an app to show you what is in the sky that is a good app. Night sky is too complicated. I think I like this app but it is a little confusing to use. First it doesn't seem to reflect the actual sky. For instance, when I point it at Ursa Major it doesn’t show it exactly where it is in the sky. So, I am never sure what I am looking at when I look at the actual sky. It is like it just shows a map of the sky and isn’t really showing me the actual sky. I tried to use the sky blending but I can’t figure out how it works. The tutorial is lacking. I would like to see more explanation of each feature in the help section. Also in the preferences, there is no explanation of what each option is. For example, what does it mean if I enable the “moon” preference? I saw in one of the reviews the developers said to use the compass align to fix the view of the sky. I tried that but how does it work? What does the + or - degrees mean? More explanation is needed. I want to just point it at the sky and see exactly what I am pointing at be reflected in the view. I have had this app for years but just picked it up again. The older version was much simpler and more accurate.

I’ve been using this app for years and in the last year, this app has become bloated and near non-functional. As an amateur stargazer, searching for satellites, constellations, or stars is neither intuitive nor helpful. This is particularly sad considering the extremely steep pricing system for the additional (non-helpful) AI. The amount of times in the last year that I have been attempting to locate a fleeting satellite and opened the app only for it to have multiple pop ups and animations that slow me down, causing me to lose the satellite is crazy-making. Last night alone, I was attempting to locate a very basic satellite and was routinely offered the upgrade with the AI version. I upgraded multiple times and it failed to upgrade. I was then stuck in a loop where I would attempt to continue to locate the satellite and the pop-up would then interrupt my search as if I didn’t already enroll. I lost the satellite AND had the pleasure of upgrading for nothing. While traveling in Australia, I wanted to locate the Southern Cross and it took me a solid 30 minutes of attempting to navigate the app to find one constellation. I work in tech and am exceedingly familiar with app screen design and the UI of this app has fallen off.

I had downloaded the free “Night Sky” app quite a while ago and I liked it. Out of the blue I get this email thanking me for downloading the new “Night Sky” and how just deleting the app would not cancel any subscription and links were provided in the email to cancel any subscription. Being that I was extremely confused by the email I notified iCandi customer support. Hoping to confirm that the email was legit and check on the subscription. They sent me the exact same email back! I explained to them in another email that I did in fact contact Apple to verify any subscription information but that I wanted to just confirm they (iCandi)were the actual senders of the email and that it wasn’t a scam because I had endured such before. They came back without confirming or denying sending any emails to me and told me to contact Apple regarding any subscription and that they would no longer be responding to my emails! I will admit my response to them at this point was less than pleasant as I felt they refused to step up and take responsibility for anything and simply took the stance it wasn’t “their job” more or less! I simply wanted confirmation that they in fact sent the email nothing about the subscription but they couldn’t be bothered assisting me with this matter. I have been in contact with Apple regarding the rude, dismissive attitude of the iCandi customer service and have deleted all iCandi apps I may have had! I like the app but the customer service stinks! I wanted to add...in reading other reviews, I noticed the same exact responses to others reviewers as were in the emails I was sent meaning they obviously they just have a form letter type response. Real nice!

I downloaded this app, and was very surprised! I had gone through trial and error, but this app was overall the best. Okay, now to the things that can improve: 1. When you click on the place that shows what the weather condition is, the temperature, and when the sun and moon will go up or down, the app automatically sets the time to when the sun goes down. I would love if the app automatically set to the current time. 2. When I search for a faint object (Proxima Centauri for example), the app shows me the location, but no pointers or anything tell me where the object is. It is impossible to find some objects 😢. 3. Please show moons of other planets in our solar system, or some planets from different stars. I would love to see solar systems of other stars. Finally, please do not send me the link to your help website, just read the review and try to improve. In no way do I think this is a bad app, quite frankly...I love it! Just please listen to me and try to make this the best stargazing app out there.

We have used this app religiously since finding it. My entire family loves to star gaze. This app was originally so useful and interesting. Informative. Besides the obnoxious and impossible pop ups...demanding a rating for the lovie awards, it also has turned to junk. The satellite and rocket bodies ALL used to be accompanied by an information option that lead to an informative drop down. Since the update, all rocket bodies have zero Information. Also, it seems half the satellite count is just missing. The satellites rarely have accompanied info now. Everytime you open the app it blares LOUD music no matter what volume your phone is set to. Also, the screen that pops up, you have to slide down with you finger now and will rarely slide down when trying. So you miss the action going on on the screen behind it if you’re trying to track a satellite. It’s just trash. Speaking of trash, it would be cool if this app had space trash available to view also. Anyways, Sadly. This was our most favorite app EVER of any kind. Moving on to others now. UPDATE: To reference the developers response. This simply is not true about previous versions never having info on rocket bodies. As my husband and I take screen shots and log every single object we see if it has info, and 95% of what we saw when we hit the “I” was a rocket body with full info available. Such an example would be Ariane 40+r/b which we logged at 7:55 pm on sept 15th. Among many others I have logged that are rocket bodies. That now do not have a “I” available for viewing. Unless a newer update has again been released fixing this issue. I stopped using the app when I posted my review, so that I wouldn’t know. But saying the info on rocket bodies was never available, is false.

The app worked great at home but when I drove a few miles away to look for Neowise and there was no WiFi, I connected my iPad to my iPhone hotspot, which worked well for everything on the internet EXCEPT Night Sky, even when I connected my iPad to the USB port in my car. The app didn’t respond as I moved my iPad—I could spin the display in any direction so North could be South, e.g.—so essentially it was no help at all with locating anything. Given that the user is likely to enter areas with no WiFi, there should be some way of addressing this scenario. Which leads me to my other complaint. The tutorial is so bare boned it’s difficult to figure out how to use some features. I don’t mind exploring on my own; in fact it’s rather fun. But sometimes I’d discover how to do something and later couldn’t remember how I did it, and there’s no guide to help, so I’d have to figure it out all over again. There were a couple of features I couldn’t get at all, like the Siri voice command to find an object. So, overall, while the app offers great feature, it doesn’t provide a very good means of helping you use them. Disappointing.

Edit: really surprised, pleasantly, by the developer response. Improvements came quickly, though more fine tuning is needed. I’m still very impressed by their passion to put out a quality product and customer service! Original review: Received an alert on my watch that the ISS would be flying over and offered to take me to it. I thought, why not... hazy, but might get lucky. So, the display on the watch showed a pretty high path (as opposed to those low on the horizon). So, keep checking my watch face arrow pointing up/down to pinpoint location. I grab my phone and open the app, met with a sales pitch 8 pages long! (Longer than most ISS passes). Find the end, close it and look for the ISS icon to appear where the arrows on the watch are pointing. Nothing. Turn to go back inside, and there it is much further north gliding across the sky NOT where the arrows/flight path were pointing! I didn’t even bother to check the app on the phone as it couldn’t even sync with it’s counterpart on the watch. Super frustrating!

A great app with significant detail and great graphics, but I am going to delete it and look for something else. There are two problems. First, if you live in an area with moderate light pollution, the app is too detailed but not accurate enough when aiming your phone skyward to determine anything not identifiable by being in a constellation. For instance, I can see Vega but not the surrounding stars because their magnitude is less and don’t come through the pollution; but they show up on the app. I think the app is identifying it as Vega, despite the fact I am not pointed directly at it and there are no surrounding stars for reference. The second problem is just annoying. Any time you zoom in on anything the app pops up a screen advertising the “premium” annual subscription- which is costly. This pops up so frequently the app is essentially unusable. Great app if you want to subscribe and don’t live in a light polluted area. Otherwise… just an annoying gimmick to get you into an expensive subscription.

I really love the app. I use it at least once a week. My one and only complaint is that the app asks me every time I start it up if I want to upgrade. No. I do not want to f’ing pay for the upgrade. *edit* What kind of response is that from the developer? I am well aware the paid services offered. My issue is that the app offers these paid services too often. I would love to turn the app on without having to decline the paid services. When I’m outside using it, I usually have my telescope with me. I’ll find what I want to look at with the app, then put my phone on my pocket. When I want to move on to a different object, I open phone, and am asked if I want to pay for an upgrade. Every single time. I understand you have to advertise the paid services but it is a bit much. It’s as if you did not read my initial review and did the exact thing that I have a problem with... advertise the paid services.

After years of frustration with this app I've finally decided to delete it. Its inaccuracies are appalling (besides what I said in my original review below). The last straw was when it showed me the moon and the sun as in the sky well above the horizon, when they absolutely were not. I hope to find something better, but even if I don't I'll at least be saving myself from this frustration. --original review: The app is amazing ... but y'all still haven't fixed the bug where it doesn't show the satellites overhead! I point the phone downward - into the ground - it shows all the satellites (and other orbiting bodies) in the part of sky I CAN'T see... Point it upward -- no freaking satellites! except maybe a few just above the horizon. Why are you doing this??? Why not just show all the satellites? We don't need no special logic to decide which satellites shouldn't be shown! Show them all! Please!

However, I downloaded it 4 times and I it was ok when I first opened it ( after the download), but then it kept crashing and freezing up. Even when I pick “Always” on the location settings( which I never do for any app), and turn the ISS and Iridium notifications off it still crashes and freezes. Does it want me to pick the premium thing? I don’t want to though!!! I don’t want to do the FREE trial!!!! That means I don’t want to do the premium thing if I don’t want to try the FREE trial!!!! I’m supposed to have a choice in this, right?!?! Developers, if you fix this, then I WILL give this a five star review. The one thing I haven’t tried is to “Use Night Sky Recommended” notifications settings. I might try that. If you have any other suggestions please share. Edit: I have now tried “Use Night Sky Recommended”. It froze up. I do need to update my phone, so I’ll try that. Second edit: Same circumstances as above, except my phone was updated.

So as SOON as I wrote the favorable review ... still true... the jerks in the sales department began FLOODING the app with ad after ad totally blocking my screen with obnoxious pressure to UPGRADE!!! Totally ruined my night and repeatedly angering me at the arrogant , rude way they tried to bully me into buying up ... which I would gladly done had they not been such manipulative jerks ... now I’m going to a different site and will justifiably badmouth their sales dept should anyone ask... very low class!! So then I got a lame, sarcastic, nerdy reply from a “site developer “ who chided me for being upset with the tricky , repeated ads , that rudely interrupted the site over and over while I tried to actually USE the site... Long story short it’s a good site but use while they hammer you with ads ... so either give the site free and allow users to CHOOSE to upgrade or stop acting like good guys and just charge folks upfront and honestly...... you lying jerks... ( sales guys ) 👍

I downloaded this app this evening and gave it a try and finished installing it on my phone. There’s one small problem with it though. While installing, it asks if you want to subscribe to the family plan. Shouldn’t that be a choice? I tried to use this app with voiceover and I noticed that when using it voiceover could not interact with the app at all. I don’t know when the last update was so I’m trying to be fair in this review. I am giving it three out of five stars because of its easy to install the app. I’m hoping that I can speak to someone from the developer or to the developer directly and hope to get more voiceover accessibility. I’m currently running this or was running this on an iPhone SE three. I had to uninstall it because VoiceOver would not interact with this properly.

I’ve been a happy customer with night sky for the most part it is good for identifying stars and constellations. But the bad part is planet tracking, I used to put total trust in this app for planets, galaxies, stars etc. when I was using night sky for tracking planets I always finished my stargazing disappointed because this app said Saturn was in an area in the sky but that area has a tree line where I live. Then one night I pointed my telescope at a star and it was Saturn than I looked on my Night Sky app and I found that this app was totally inaccurate to where Saturn actually was. Thankfully this app has accurate star, and constellation tracking, but never use this app to track planets, just use your eyes to find strange looking stars. Update: This is not just bad for planets it is also bad for stars 😐

I went into this app thinking, “Hey, this looks really cool,” and I then saw all of its features and downloaded it. At first glance, this app was quite the spectacle. You could zoom in and see countless stars, view satellites, and view distant constellations. But then, I saw the first problem, it very poorly lined up with the actual night sky. In other terms, it was very inaccurate. I then became very interested in the premium, so I bought a yearly subscription. I was very excited to use the new features that were unlocked such as a AR solar system and an AR planetary portal. But then, I realized both of these features were poorly implemented. The portals glitched and the solar system was very glitchy as well. At the end of the day, I think this app desperately needs improvement in order to match the expectations you set for me in the preview. So please, developers, please try to implement the features promised better.

This app is 100% pay to enjoy. The “free” price tag on the store front I just that, a front. One you open the app you are forced to sign up for a monthly service of $1.99 per month before you can use it. Sure the first month is free but this is absolutely insane... Apple revolutionized the media works with the invention of the $0.99 song, the $0.99 download, and the former $0.99 movie rental. And now this app that hopes to secure a blind $20 per year for intermittent use! The most infuriating part of this experience has been that it’s in fact an Editor’s Pick. Sure the content is probably amazing and the functionality highlights everything Apple does well or at least wants us to appreciate/focus on. BUT the promise of consumer experience + value + entertainment should factor into these designations as well. If you’re not going to call this a paid app, you’re failing on the first promises are broken.

I got this app to help identify and locate objects in the sky to be viewed through a telescope. The accuracy of the image on screen vs. the actual star placement is mediocre at best. EXAMPLE: Using Night Sky with an iPhone 15 pro max the phone was pointed at a star about 2 degrees lower than Saturn and identified the star as Saturn. This same result was repeated with Jupiter. After several nights of use with this app it’s clear that this is intended more for entertainment purposes rather than any actual use. The lack of accuracy in locating objects, the obnoxious amount information constantly pumped to the screen, the soundtrack, default setting, clumsy interface, and myriad of other useless features that are geared towards entertainment, make it clear this is not an actual tool.

Two things are making this app too frustrating to use for me. Every time I open the app a huge add appears (for the Grand Orrery) that requires a long scroll to dismiss. That’s very frustrating. When the app finally opens, and I’m looking at a part of the sky that usually contains objects I’m interested in, the Milky Way, as represented in the app, makes seeing objects almost impossible. For some reason the way this app represents the Milky Way looks like an acid trip, Loaded with bright colors and a very complex. I haven’t been able to find anything in the preferences to turn this off, or to make it look more naturalistic. Strangely if I select “real sky representation“, it makes all the planets pin sized, but the Milky Way remains Day-Glo red and purple. This essentially makes it even harder to see objects against the app representation of the Milky Way.

Unfortunately I am not getting the enjoyment I had hoped. I am not clear on how to use it for example does the camera part of the I phone face the sky while you look up at the display? If the screen of phone is held up facing the sky how does one view it? I didn't even see the moon on the ap on the night of full moon. Maybe I am slow but I just don't see the sky on the ap resembling actual sky at all I would ask for more explicit instructions. Further I can no longer use it without subscribing. I see they offer a 30 day trial cancel any time but we know how that works you can never reach someone to cancel if the app falls short. I only use it rarely anyway. An app without instructions isn’t what I need right now.

Just as the title service. I’ve used this app for years, but I haven’t used it in a couple years. I opened it up and it’s just bloated and I can’t even find the settings to turn the music off and change some other things. This app might be OK for someone who is used to it and is using it, but it’s not worth it for new people more frustration it’s worth if you’re just trying to find out what that star is in the sky real quick. I searched for simple star maps, unfortunately there’s this and another one that comes up and neither one are simple. They both are bloated. For the developer, my suggestion would be to have it open, relatively clean, and let people turn on all the bells and whistles, if and when they want to.

I used the premium version for over two years and for nine of those months, the portals did not work, I’d open it up and it would either crash or freeze on where I was creating the portal. I downgraded to the free version but then saw there was an update so again I paid for the full version. Still, all it does is crash. I’m using an iPhone XR with the latest iOS. I have absolutely no problems with any other app. I have installed and reinstalled, I’ve gone from premium to free and doctor premium. Nothing helps. It is the single most important feature in why are use this. Why am I paying for something that I literally can access. I just don’t understand can somebody please help me? I see others have the same issues but, there’s no solution

When I first purchased Night Sky, it worked really well, but since then, there are several "Premium" features and adverts for them. In addition, the app is clunky now and difficult to calibrate because I need to do so every time I use the app.

Did not authorize being charged for this app. When i cancelled the subscription, i was charged anyway. Total scam.

Do not buy this app, I payed for it around 5 years ago. It was a one time purchase. Now they started charging me 2.79 a month for it out of left field, not even sure how they are even doing this because I didn’t agree to anything. They should be sued.

It’s a fun enough app but I didn’t like it enough to pay the monthly fee after trying it for a week. Trying to cancel my subscription wasn’t simple or easy. That’s what my experience has been anyway. The app isn’t listed in my subscriptions on my iPhone nor could I find instructions for cancelling that were accurate. I’m still trying to find someone to help me with this. I wouldn’t recommend just for this reason alone.

This app purchased a year subscription on its own when I didn’t even have possession of my phone for 3 months and the company are very rude on the phone and hung up on me . DO NOT DOWNLOAD ITS A SCAM

From one of the greatest apps I have ever owned, now it is version "X" and tries to trick me into spending $36.xx for an annual subscription with no explanation of any change, upgrade in service or any improvement whatsoeverr! WYF

Simply can’t use the app. Had the app as a sky reference. I can’t spot a comet or constellation and try to align that the app shuts off. Pointless.

Excited to learn that there was an app available and once I downloaded it wanted money and now I am going to delete. Too complicated.

I really like to see the cosmos but when ever I touch something it makes it show me where you have to pay, and I just want to play not pay ok ☹️☹️☹️

Liked the old version. Place your iPad in the sky and everything is labeled. Now there is so much to decipher I would rather not use the app

Great app but in the last 5 days it’s used 9.7 mb of cellular data when I’ve not even opened the app. I’ve obviously turned the cellular access off for the app but why is it even doing that? I also do not agree with a monthly/annual subscription model for nothing extra, price gouging customers shows greed and lack of respect. You’d also be advised to read icandy privacy and data use policy, available below.

I haven’t had this app downloaded to my device or utilized its functions in ages but still receive emails that I’m being charged for its services. How can I unsubscribe or be reimbursed (which I’m guessing isn’t going to happen)?

I got the « free trial » after 2 days I deleted the app but after a month it doesn’t stop sending me notifications to pay BUT I DONT USE IT AND I DONT HAVE IT!! Someone can do something for it thanksss

I use it about once or twice a year, and it’s just sad to see the cr*pification it’s undergone. No, I don’t wanna follow you on Social Media. No, I’m not paying $80 to use your AI chatbot. The pinch zoom stopped working, the mapping is WAY off as far as alignment between phone and angle at which we see the stars, and when I finally find the planet I was looking for way to the side, it all gets interrupted to remind me about that AI chatbot. What happened? Were the ads not enough? Did some VC buy and ruin you?

This app used to be great but now most features are blocked by a subscription paywall. The search function has most recently fallen victim to this.

I was subscribed to this app for many years, but their decision to rebrand as an "AI powered" astronomy app has officially ruined it for me. It was already a little weird of them to preferentially give notices about Starlink, something which most astrophotographers hate these days, which should have been my first clue something was off. And all this when the "artificially intelligent" are just going to open up their favourite "AI" app to ask those questions (and get subtly wrong answers) anyways. Do yourself a favour and buy a paper astronomy book written before the year 2022. At least that way the author can't retroactively shove slop in your face after years of loyalty!

Too many stars. Too confusing. I have two bright objects in my site and I can’t tell what they are. Just mixed in with a whole cacophony of stars etc…

First of all, the whole app has random lag spikes even on a iPhone 13 which shouldn’t be a problem with this app. then the subscription page pops up completely randomly when browsing the stars. the worst thing is that there’s a giant compass right on top of where you are, so don’t you dare install this app & try to feel immersed, this app won’t provide you that.
