I love RokuI’ve been using Roku since they first hit the market and I love it. I highly recommend Roku to anyone who wants to enjoy great TV content. I’m using my Roku right now to watch football on Sling and along with a few streaming services I can watch football games that are not available in my area, which makes my wife happy because we can watch her Lions game today which is not available in our area. I can also record other games I want to see while watching her game. Happy wife, happy life. With one of my few steaming services I am able to watch and record motor racing from Europe that is not otherwise unavailable in America so I’m extremely pleased with all of the programming I can enjoy with Roku, Sling and the 4 streaming services, two of which I get free with my AT&T fiber internet access and my Walmart+ account. Most of all I love my Sling account that I have on my Roku which allows me to watch Fox News and other premium channels for a low price and I have unlimited recording so I can watch my favorite shows whenever I have time. Regular network news either lies to us, twists the truth into their socialist propaganda or simply do not report the news I want to know about. Use to be perfect. 5 stars so it can be seen.I use to absolutely love this app, it worked perfectly and there were very few problems I had with it. Now if i would like to listen through another device, I have to manually connect it, and that shows me an IP address that when i enter to manually connect, it is invalid. No amount of restarting fixes this. I have gone to the FAQ and did ALL of the things it showed that said it should help. It did not. Even if it did I would have to keep the app open because the moment I turn the screen off of the device that it is playing from, it will close the app ENTIRELY. Again I have gone to FAQ for this issue and nothing. I have no idea what is going on or why this is happening but it is genuinely so annoying and so frustrating. I thought it might be because I need to update the app or that I needed to reset my Roku. I checked for updates, none. So I just reset my Roku and only then did it “fix” things. This is also happening to the rest of my family who all use this app and listen through it instead of through the tv. I understand that resetting can seem very little to some but it is very frustrating that JUST TO CONNECT TO MY ROKU, I have to entirely RESET SAID ROKU. Best Handy App... Here’s why (Read All)Honestly, I love this app because it’s greatly convenient!!! Probably one of THE MOST convenient and simple apps for free. Like another reviewer said instead of searching for the remote as long as you have your phone (which is most likely all the time) you’re good. As a wheelchair bound disabled person, some people in my home can leave the remote in places I can’t really reach so that’s were this app come in handy, and really in this household the remote generally has the tendency to disappear. So if you have a remote that has hidden legs and likes to go into hiding then the app is great. On a funny and more truthful note, I originally got the app because my sister and I weren’t getting along at the time and she knows every morning I use the tv. For some reason the next morning I couldn’t find the remote and had a gut feeling she hid it on purpose so that I had no choice but to talk and ask her where it was (in which she probably still wouldn’t have helped to be petty). To avoid needing her help, I downloaded the app and she looked confused and shocked like “😳”. I felt like victory with my phone remote 😎😂. Frustrating at times. Even after update still doesn’t work.Biggest problem I have is that me nor my wife can connect to both of our TVs to access the remote in the app. I am connected to WiFi and it’s full signal in the living room and in the bedroom. My wife was having troubles a month ago for about 2 1/2 weeks and then it worked for me no problem. However about 4-5 days ago I can’t connect at all. I have WiFi connected to my phone and both TVs and the app is updated however the issue still persists. It’s a bit frustrating guess I will just go ahead an buy 2 new Roku remotes due to the app inconsistency we have had. I will say that when it’s worked for me, it was an amazing app however its not always easy to keep track of a physical remote when you have 2 kids that love to grab it a hide it, forget where they put it or it gets lost. So that’s why the app is always my go to to be able to quickly get the tv on without the 30 mins to all day search. Maybe others have had no issues like I’m having or maybe they have. Why I love the Roku appI recently got a 24 inch Roku TV, and I’ve already lost the remote. Since then, I realized I could download the Roku app and use that as the remote which has been super helpful. The Roku app is very helpful for my everyday use as I don’t have to keep track of a remote anymore and I keep my phone on me 24 seven so I always have it whenever I need it. I’ve still been able to watch TV without my remote and that has been wonderful. Now about my Roku TV. I bought a 24 inch TV for my birthday at Walmart, and it is so cool. It has backdrops and all the updated technology and I recently signed in all of the apps so I could use it. I’ve already watched so many good Christmas movies and I just really enjoy my Roku TV overall. For some advice, if you are looking to buy TV, there are some really good brands out there, but I would definitely recommend Roku first. It has updated features like backdrops and their remotes are super easy to replace. Don’t worry, I have a new remote on the way. I would definitely recommend a Roku app and a Roku TV if you were looking to buy an HTV. There are so many other benefits to Roku over other brands, so I would look those up yourself. It’s simply broken. It no longer worksEDIT: The app is working again, I can watch any episode I want on the iPad app after about a month of it not working. Plus they fixed the issue where it would start at the very end of each episode when rewatching. And the actual Roku device os is particularly nice and snappy. ORIGINAL NEGATIVE REVIEW The only thing use this app for is to watch the early seasons of The Great British Baking Show on my iPad. I am so grateful that they provide those seasons for free, to the point that I ended up buying a Roku device for my tv even though I have an Apple TV. However, I can no longer select which episode to watch. There used to be two different ways to watch a particular episode. When you clicked on the three dots next to the show logo under Continue Watching, you used to be able to click either Watch on Mobile to continue watching the most recent episode, or View Details which would take you to the main landing page for the show, where you would be able to select which season you wanted and then which episode. Now, Watch on Mobile does absolutely nothing when you click on it. It is a dead link. View Details now takes me to the screen for only the first episode of the final season. It is a broken link. Yesterday, I was able to click through to the show’s main landing page by searching for the show’s title and click on it in the search results. Now clicking on it in search results takes me to the same screen as View Details, the one that is specific to season 7 episode 1. Hence, season 7 episode 1 is now the only episode of this show I can watch. Ridiculously frustrating. I’d give the app under a star if I could. I really hope the developers respond, they are certainly losing more ad revenue from me than an average Roku viewer I would guess, given how much time I normally spend with this show on in the background..MktevVersion: 10.0.0

Don’t let the love reviews fool you they just lost their remote and want to watch tv.Their are so many problems with Roku, the remotes and this app you can’t list them all, 3 stars because their products are fine at best and Roku doesn’t care to have a product better than that and it’s glaringly obvious. Even with 1k upload and download and brand new devices (been using Roku for over 10 years because it’s affordable so I guess that means they don’t have to care or try right?) the app crashes all the time especially if you use the “play audio through the phone” they update the privacy policy more than their actual products. When the typing feature does work you’re fighting a heavy delay. The only reason people love the app is because they design their remotes to be the most easily lost thing on the planet. The app will try to connect to a tv you used once at a friends house before it even lets you consider using your own device. By that I mean a device that is on and connected to the same isp as your phone shiny register as on for up to 20 minutes. They make you pay twice for a subscriptionThey are very deceiving with how their subscriptions work! Say my bill is due on the first of the month and you pay it…that means that you’re paying for the whole month, the 1st through the 31st. Say next month, you don’t pay your bill on the 1st but you end up paying your bill on the 20th. They’re still going to cut your subscription off on the first and make you pay for another subscription even though it should’ve started over on the 20th because you paid for 30 days!! THE WHOLE MONTH From the 20th to the 20th of the next month. That’s nothing but greed!! these are subscriptions for crying out loud. It’s not like it’s the first months rent or a phone bill. It’s literally entertainment!! anything could’ve happened to where you couldn’t have paid your bill on that month. Great App, works perfectly.There’s one thing that must be said about Roku, and that’s that I feel like this app was made because they knew that their remotes would die very quickly. By that I mean, 6 months into having my tv, the batteries inside the remote actually corroded and ate away the battery contacts inside. I cleaned the inside and replaced the batteries only for it to happen again 4 months later. I was using Kirkland signature batteries the second time. After the third time of cleaning out the remote I noticed certain buttons stopped working consistently, and eventually I had to switch to using the app. The app itself is very useful though, I can do more on it that I could with the original remote. I love that I can just open the app on my phone and not worry about looking for the remote that fell behind my bed in my sleep again. However I have one complaint about the app itself, it doesn’t have a widget. I would absolutely love if I could put a widget on my home screen with 3 buttons, power on most recently used tv, open the remote buttons, and volume up + down. This remote has no mute button/option18 December 2023 We cut the cord with Comcast because it was ridiculously expensive, too many unwanted junk channels, and too many ads. With Roku every decent app is an additional charge if you don't want ads (which adds up very quickly) so you aren't really saving any money... and you lose your high-speed Internet. We just found out that apparently it is possible too run your iPad or iPhone through the Roku which means you should be able to use the Brave app already on your Apple device and view it on your tv. Still no mute button on this Roku app, but Brave would improve the quality of our viewing experience greatly. Still exploring that option. Might need to buy a HomePod??? 16 October 2023. They ask for a review within an hour of setup, that provoked a one star rating. I'm sure my first impressions will improve. I know people who love their Roku. However, if things don't improve within a week we're going back to cable. What I've seen so far is movies and miscellaneous garbage fiction, I have no interest in either. Wonderful idea, glitchy executionI have Roku on both of my TV’s, one with a plug in and one with it built into the tv. Having two extra remotes is definitely a challenge at times because I am notorious for taking them on walks or losing them. Friends told me about the Roku app and I LOVE the convenience of it, especially when I can’t find my remote. I will say however, even with both TV’s and Roku mechanisms turned on, my app continuously has a hard time “waking the devices” even though they are on and connected. I have tried deleting and reinstalling the app, I have closed out and restarted, even restarting the TVs when it happens. There is truly no rhyme or reason (I’ve done lots of troubleshooting) and sometimes it works just fine with no problems! It’s very very frustrating and I wish I could figure out why this happens so frequently. All in all, minus the connectivity issues, the app is very navigable and is has a simple and easy interface. APP functions stupidlyWhy bother to have a mobile app that you can’t use unless you connect with a fixed wireless? I tried to go into update my payment information for my new credit card. I can’t accomplish this because it will not connect and less it has Wi-Fi. We only use fixed secure Wi-Fi because of data security issues. I certainly don’t want to break this rule in order to go on this app to update my credit card information. This is a stupid design that they need to fix. Most of us have unlimited data and are not concerned about whether we have Wi-Fi. Also if I were using this app on a road trip with my kids I would want them to be able to look on their iPad whether or not we had access to reliable Wi-Fi. Stupid stupid stupid design. Any app to sign her that is this out of touch with the purpose of its application needs to be replaced. Very useful overall, still issuesApp is super, super useful don’t get me wrong when it’s able to connect properly. I’m definitely the type to lose my remote every five seconds and opt rather to use this app. That being said I have one specific device that it will, no matter doing every troubleshooting step sometimes just not connect, or recognize the device. Everyday multiple times a day I have to completely delete app and redownload for it to recognize the roku TV i have, just think it’s super irritating and wish there was a way to reset the app recognition bcs it’s simply just the apps issue. I connect to my IP I turn on the tv and it just says to wake up the device and i press that and wait forever and it never works says it can’t connect every time until I redownload as I see it a rest and then it magically appears but it never last long. Where is the remote, no moreMy husband carries the remote from room to room in his hand, in his pocket or the remotes just follow him . We have 7 daily use televisions-in a large home. At first I began adding Roku to the televisions we had then I began purchasing televisions with Roku installed. One day I discovered I could download the Roku app. I have not looked for any television remotes in years! Years I said! My grandkids never would look for remotes to the televisions when they came over why? That’s how I learned about the app! My mother is 89 years old legally blind, legally deaf and has Alzheimer’s. I can’t make this stuff up. I can use the house camera on my ROKU TV see what she is doing and place a program on her TV while I am relaxing in the tub. If she does not see interested in that program I can change it. I can see my mom from the ROKU televisions in all the rooms in my home which gives her more freedom to roam the entire house and I can see she is safe real time. Remote and download problems.I’ve been using this Roku remote for some time now, and lately it has been acting up. It doesn’t want to connect when I clearly have service, it picks up everyone else tv but mines so which had me thinking it was my television at first, but that’s not the case! So I decided to delete the remote and reinstall it, that’s where the problem comes in now with these new iPhones and such. So now I can’t download it without uploading a card or because I have other subscriptions on my phone that has nothing to do with my remote that needs to be paid. Now am I wrong? Because last time I checked my finances has nothing to do with Roku Remote. Now I have to download generic versions of this remote that comes with a million and 1 ads. I was watching an incredible live sports event and paused my ROKU device with the physical remote; as I needed to make an emergent visit to the idea factory. When I returned from my sojourn it was discovered, to my great dismay, that the batteries of my physical ROKU remote had lost their electric vigor. I had no remedy to the electric impotence. Best appBest app for someone that is visually impaired because I can browse the channels and I can also use voice search so I love that idea and I have no issues whatsoever? I love the contact here on the Roku channel but I would love to see more genres added I am a huge horror movie fan so maybe add some movies and more channels for free here on the Roku channel I love the 70s horror grind house exploitation films but I love other shows and movies here I would love to see more documentaries and I would love to see some shock Demetris and Mondo flicks! And I’m also a fan of underground horror movies I would also love to have that added to here on the Roku channel so I would say keep adding more contact and keep going and also maybe add some movies and TV shows that can be narrated for people with visual impairments! Vastly Becoming Default Watch AppI enjoy all TV, all types of shows and movies. We are a watch family and always have been. We have been with DIRECTV for over 20 years. We stayed with the because of the Christian programming which to this date is still the best out there. That said, I am a surfer and the most frustrating thing about all these apps is the inability to just sit-back-and-surf. The Roku team must have gotten wind of this and the past few months they have added some sensational items to their iPhone app. I can now just use other apps as channels. The function that was recently added to be able to scroll through all applications at the bottom of the iPhone controller was screen GENIUS!!!! It’s nearly like surfing on TV “ROKU HAS MADE SO I CAN SURF THROUGH ALL YOUR APPLICATIONS!!!! Without loading the app selection screen on the TV. If you are not using the iPhone/Android app to control you ROKU do it now. Dear ROKU Team What you just added to the app was awesome. The more you get things to flow like natural television watching the more folks you will bring over. The person that had the idea to add the app scrolling function to the app deserves a raise. Suggestion Figure out a way to group apps in the scroller by categories. This way if I want only apps with live TV in my scroller I can have that. That will add to the natural TV watching flow. Remote with benefitsI have an older remote that doesn’t have a mute button and doesn’t have an option to listen on headphones. This app is a favorite of mine since I now have both of those features available to me. Like everyone else, I lose the remote from time to time and don’t have the motivation to spend 5-10 minutes looking for it, so when that happens I just pull out my phone and turn on the tv and start streaming. Before you let others know about the app, be sure you lay down some good pranks that’ll make them think that their tv has been overtaken by supernatural beings. You know how hard it is to type with ⬆️⬇️⬅️➡️? No need for that, type from your phone and get to your shows sooner. Ever want to convince someone that there’s something better to watch but don’t have the remote? Now you do, with access to everything. I could keep typing about how awesome this is but I need to go watch something. Great app when it decides to workI mainly use this for when I lose my physical remote or private listening when I want to watch TV, but not wake up housemates. It seems quite frequently it has stopped connecting to my TV saying that my TV may be in “eco mode” and asks me to “wake it up.” My TV is never in “eco mode” and I’m usually in the middle of a show when this happens. The only way I’ve figured out how to get it to recognize my TV again is to completely unplug my TV for about 20 seconds and plug it back in to completely reboot it. Then it usually works, but will often disconnect during the same watching session. It’s very random, too. Sometimes I can go a whole day without this problem. Sometimes I give up and just watch stuff from my phone because I can’t get it to private listen for more than 5 minutes. I have a strong WiFi connection and my bed where I try to private listen from isn’t far from my Roku TV. I don’t think I’ve ever reviewed an app before, but this needs to be fixed. I am experiencing issues. But still the best.Version 8.1.0.6 has caused the app to crash when clicking on the device select screen. This may be due to my phone also being enrolled in the iPhone beta updates. Both updates ( iOS and app) happened at around the same time. I have since removed the phone from being enrolled in beta and reverted iOS to its non beta version. However the crash still exists. I have followed normal troubleshooting of removing and installing the app, rebooting, etc. This has given me the opportunity to check out the other Roku apps. While those other apps are at least able to let me hobble along and use the system, I hate that they have ads. I stand by that this app is the better of all the other apps. I just hope that this crash is a known issue and will get fixed in the next version. Update: I have updated to 8.1.1 and the issue has been resolved. WhyWhen have this app start charging ?? One month it charges me $2.99 && another month it charged me $5.34 . Not sure why it’s charging me but I rather not download an remote app that I would have to pay for . Rather not do && the fact that it’s charging my card that I see no records of on Roku that I filled or even made a purchase on the app is ridiculous. Yes it was a great app before it start charging me. The fact this app still charging me but I have NO ACCOUNT with them but yet they charging my card (unauthorized) . Not Roku’s faultLike MANY others here and on website, my phone keeps disconnecting during private listening. No one could figure it out… except my kid. Notice that your phone is disconnected from the device when this happens (the dot beside the device name goes gray instead of green). Most routers have two channels. Devices can switch seamlessly between them to give you the best service (think your phone switching cell towers). Problem is, unless the Roku device and your phone are on the same channel, they won’t talk. You have to be a wizard and separate the channels and force every device in your house to only communicate on one of the channels then make sure every Roku device AND your phone are assigned to the same channel. Roku could design devices to connect to your phone with Bluetooth but then you couldn’t connect wireless headphones. You can get a Roku remote that uses wired headphones. Would like to see the Roku devices be able to connect via Bluetooth to headphones but that has nothing to do with the app..FlybabyaprilVersion: 9.9.1

Just another review….I know, I know. People who say “I don’t usually do this but I had to write a review because it’s so fantabulous” (Fantastic + Fabulous) are slightly annoying. Having said that, I don’t usually do this but…. ROKU is awesome. Not only can you watch free shows but they also group all of your favorite streaming services in one place. My most favorite thing about ROKU is the app on my iPhone! Both my teenage son and my husband and I have ROKU TV’s in our bedrooms and when I get up in the morning and I’m sitting in the living room drinking my tea, the tvs sound so loud. So I just pull out my phone, go to the app and connect to each TV, from there I can turn it down or turn it off if I want to. And sure, I could easily get up and go turn them down myself and believe me, before ROKU, I have. Love it!I love this feature. We have a remote, but it’s constantly being lost or my spouse will put it in his pocket and walk downstairs or worse, have it in his hand and set it some unknown place in our home, usually on the other floor of our house. We didn’t have WiFi for awhile there as we live in a more rural area and were waiting for a new company to come to down , but we have WiFi now (!! Thank God !!), so I downloaded this on my phone, my spouses phone, iPad and my daughters phone. Life saver. It’s truly a life saver and sooo convenient. Another plus, is even if you have your phone set to “time out” or “go to sleep”, the remote stays on all the time - you can hit the side button on your phone and the remote goes away, and then when you open your phone back up the remote is right there. The reason I gave this four stars instead of five is because it does lag sometimes. Not for long, but it still does it. It’s not that frustrating because like I said it only does it for a brief period of time, but still that is a flaw. Still a million percent worth the download of the app. Another benefit is if you’re watching specific shows on certain networks/streaming apps, you can save them as a “favorite” and just open the remote app, and click on the show and it’ll pop up on your television right where you left off and you don’t need to open the app on your tv and search for the show and episode you want. I have had a couple times where it didn’t start me off where I had left off watching something on my phone, but started the show from the beginning - not worth removing a star. Overall, excellent app, and in case I didn’t mention it before - ITS FREE! 100% FREE! Can’t prevent phone from auto lock?One glaring omission from this app is that there is no option to prevent the screen from auto-locking. That seems like such an oversight of something so essential in a remote app. Imagine you have a physical remote that sleeps and may or may not reload when you want to use it. Behold Roku app. Turning off auto-lock for the entire device just to keep the remote open is really a bad and unsafe alternative. Unfortunately with all the great features this app provides (especially the swipe controls and keyboard) this app becomes completely useless because eventually you will find yourself taking the path of least resistance and just reach for the physical remote. Please please add an auto-lock prevention option. IOS has this capability and from experience it’s relatively minimal effort to implement this functionality. Also Roku doesn’t seem to have an email to suggest missing features, so I’m going to be pessimistic here and assume Roku probably won’t read this and this app will never get this option. Roku channel TV bugsHello, have something to report, Roku channel crashes on the streaming stick after a few minutes of a movie, do not believe me, launch some thing and then wait a few minutes, your Channel will just stop working, and go all the way back to the menu where he would select your channel, it is very annoying, I hope this can be fixed in the next update on the streaming stick and, the following work just fine, main site, Apple app. These are solid, but the TV side needs to be tweaked just a little. I remember being able to watch a full movie on the thing, please fix it when you can thank you very much. Any update, I figured out something, this is all fine if you connect it all into the TV, but if you put it into the power stick I mean the plug, it goes back and does that thing I described. Why I love this appI love this app because I don’t have to move when I wake up lookin for my control I just grab my phone and there is my control then I find it when I’m awake and I love not having to move out of my bed it’s like having your tv on your phone and don’t start me on that I can watch my. BEST ROKU APP!!!I have downloaded several of these ROKU apps and none even compare to this one!! The layout is so easy and sleek. You can also put this app on your phone or your tablet and they work great! When you’re looking for a show/movie you can speak into it AND can listen they your phone or connect your headphones to your phones (Bluetooth or whatever) and listen to your movies/shows once you switch to one of your other channels like if you have HBOMax or Netflix etc. That’s the only thing about this app I wish they’d make a bit better Wish they’d fix it where we could listen through our headphones even when just hooked up to our cable but regardless I am so grateful for this app bcz i am able to download it on all our Devices and my kids are always losing the actual Remote lol!! I love Roku, however!I've been using Roku for as long as I can remember, I used to be able to get a hold of them by telephone and speak to somebody on the telephone if there's ever been an issue come up or I need help with something. Now I keep getting charged for things such as "CBS ", which I never ordered or use and I can't cancel it but I keep getting charged 1399 a month. I can't call them anymore there's no phone number located. For the past four months I've been charged and there's no way for me to figure out because I'm not computer so, had to cancel and get my money back as a refund because I never ordered CVS. I would typically give a five star however I contemplated giving only one star because of the fact Roku took their phone number off and there's no way for me to get a hold of them to cancel and get all my money back for the past several months of the service I never ordered or even watch. This app is a lifesaverWish I started using this app years ago!!! I have a 2017 Roku tv so my remote doesn’t have the microphone option and my tv is starting to go on its last leg and the physical remote takes a while to work - the microphone on this app has been the best thing since sliced bread. I have always hated typing on TVs and now I can use phone keyboard or microphone making everything so much smoother. Also if I’m not directly in front of the tv it’s nice I don’t need to aim it at the tv. Little things about this app that really make my life easier. Also I like the option how you can pick your streaming service from the app without having to go back to the Roku Home Screen and then opening up - sounds small but these little things help me get to my favorite shows quicker after a long day. Great app, but it annoys me so muchWhen I first got this app it worked really well for me since I lost my actual remote I used it for the first couple of nights but then I went on vacation and when I tried to get back into the app, I wasn’t connected to my TV anymore which was fine. I was just going to connect it right back but when I tried to do that, it says that I wasn’t connected to the Internet when I had full bars, I kept trying to connect my TV and going back to my settings and going back-and-forth and back-and-forth but it just wouldn’t let me connect again. Great app - can now use Headset!I purchased the Roku TV last year. I wanted to use a Bluetooth headset and was told by BestBuy that the TV was not compatible with Bluetooth. Through the magic of the internet I found this App. Sure enough it has a headset button on it. I connected my Bluetooth headset to work on my iPhone then pressed the Headset button on this app. Voila works like a charm! By the way BestBuy tried to sell me a corded headset for $269. This app saved me over $300. Thank you! Also the rewind/fast-forward setting works better through this app than the actual remote that came with the TV. The Roku App (Official) Negative Reviews

Need Improvements, Especially on The Rich Eisen Show ChannelI got the Roku app for one reason, and one reason only, The Rich Eisen Show. Despite the app not being user friendly and being able to find the live version of the show difficult at best, I enjoyed being able to live stream the show, so I put up with the issues. For example, despite their being an icon with The Rich Eisen Show logo on the hoescreen, I could not watch the show directly from there on the mobile app. I have to search “The Rich Eisen Show”, then go to that link where I could actually watch the live show. But the functionality of the app has gotten worse over time, especially with the most recent updates. Not only is the app constantly freezing, but the recent changes to where the live version of The Rich Eisen Show is NOT on the Rich Eisen Channel, but you have to go to the Roku Sports Channel is not a good improvement. I enjoyed being able to go right from the live show from 9AM-Noon EST, and into the replay of the same show directly afterwards. That way, if I missed anything from the live show that I wanted to see/hear, I can watch though the replay right away. Now, the only show being replayed on The Rich Eisen Show channel is from the previous day, not the current day like it used to be, AND there is no more immediate replay of the current day’s show. Used to love RokuBut they’ve been pretty disappointing recently. My current issue is trying to figure out how to cancel subscriptions, and being unable to get into contact with anyone from Roku Anyone at all, is impossible. If I go to the site of what I’m subscribing to, it says I need to do it through Roku. When I go to Roku’s website, it says I need to do it through the Roku. I don’t see the option anywhere on the ruku, it’s not on the faq, their online “help” system is worthless and just puts me through circles. And their customer service line that they hide the number to (bet you can’t find it on their website) just saying to go online for help. Which isn’t helpful at all. So I’m about to just call my credit card company and file a fraud claim, I don’t know how else to get the payments to stop. Another annoying issue from about a year ago. I bought the top model of Roku since my old rule stopped being serviced. The most expensive, fastest model. Within 2 months it’s telling me I need to buy a memory card since the Roku is full, and until I do, it uninstalls apps to make room for the ones I use. All I use is 5 streaming channels. That’s literally the only apps downloaded on it besides what comes in it, which shouldn’t be a lotl. If I’m buying the most expensive, top end model of a product, I shouldn’t have to buy additional add ones to make it functional. Good features, but frequently disconnects from devices and becomes non-responsiveI would have given this app a far better review — it has many very useful features for an app like this — but the one I use the most, "headphone mode", very frequently does not work correctly. It will more often than mot work for an entire move/episode of a show, but whenever the program ends, it will almost invariably stop working. Switching back to the Roku app will yield only a completely non-responsive remote screen. All other components of the app will be nonfunctional in this state, too. Force-quitting the app and restarting it will *sometimes* fix the issue; more often than not, though, it won't, because the app says it can't find the device it was literally just connected to. This leaves the TV/streaming stick without audio as well, and trying to quit whatever app I am using with the physical Roku remote will result in a black screen, and apparently freezing the system. As Roku is a closed platform, debugging/diagnostic tools are not available, so this necessitates a TV/stick reboot. Obviously, this is not desirable behavior. In fact, it is annoying enough that I actually wrote an app review: as a beta tester for many, many products, I usually don't, because I can privately submit a bug report. UselessGot the smart tv in late February early March. At this time I was sharing the tv with my sister and she always lost the remote so I got this app and it came in handy. After awhile I didn’t have to share the tv with her anymore more and it was just mine so I removed the app because I was able to keep up with it. Fast forward a few months later.... my original remote is being used by my parents because there volume button doesn’t work so they take mine all the time so today I decided to use the app so I can turn down the volume on my tv (I like to keep the volume at 30 max but someone turned it up to 40 so it’s too loud in my opinion) so when I tried to connect my phone to the phone tv it wouldn’t even pop on the list to devices I can connect too, me thinking it was my tv I tried to connect it to my parents smart tv and it didn’t pop up on the connect screen as well. I signed into my Roku account and see if that would help but once again neither TVs didn’t pop up on the screen again. I tried connecting it manually by typing in the IP address but it said it couldn’t find any tv with the address which is crazy (I typed it in multiple times and still didn’t work) idk what happened to this app but it’s a waste of time, don’t advertise on the app that you can connect your smart phone to the tv when you clearly can’t. No connectionSo I have had this app for over a year and this issue I’m having has been happening since day 1. I am notorious for misplacing my remote. I love that this app has the remote feature so I can still change the tv if I need to. However, I absolutely can not get it to connect to either TV on the account. Both TV’s are on the same WIFI as my phone and I know they’re plugged in cause they’re on. If the tv is on it seems like the only way the app will connect with the tv is if I literally spend 10-20 minutes trying to get it to connect. After one failed attempt I usually use my daughters remote but still spend the time trying to get it to connect because of the principle of the matter 😂 It isn’t the tv cause I’m on my 3rd and 4th Roku tvs linked to my account and every single tv has had this issue. Doesn't work for meThis app just seems to fight me all the time. Today, I couldn't find my physical Roku remote, so I opened up the app. When I get into the app, there's no volume control buttons, and the volume is up at 50. I actually found the physical remote, turned down the blasting volume on the TV with it, and then VOILA! The buttons appeared on the app. Go figure. My main reason for wanting to use this app was that whenI sleep, my phone is generally on the charger across the room. I can never find the remote, because the kids always lose it. So my thought was: when I wake up, I can merely use the Apple Watch on my arm to turn on the TV. NOPE! Every single time I try to use the Watch app, I HAVE to open up the app on my phone first, because the watch cannot connect to connect to the TV until I open the app. What a waste of my time and energy! For a "smart TV", no less. I have only one TV that has built-in Roku. I was thinking about buying a couple of Roku sticks for my "dumb tv's", but forget it. If this is going to be the problem I'm having with ONE Roku device, I can only imagine the issues I'm gonna have with multiple ones. MidIt’s a great app in theory if everything worked. It’s user friendly, and offers personal streaming where you can connect and listen on your headphones through your phone. My issue is the connectivity issues that I consistently experience. The app itself connects to my tv, however the private listening has a lot of room to grow. I’ve tried with my AirPods and it’s maybe 50% successful, where I am trying to connect to my Roku tv then redirected to the homepage over and over. I updated my app, my phone, and did what I could with my AirPods. So then I tried my old plug in apple headphones - and the same issue popped up. The app will say it’s connected and then reboot itself over and over. I see how the app has room to grow, but for now the remote (which in my experience doesn’t have great connectivity in and of itself) seems to be the best way to go about things. I look forward to the improvement of this app. As of right now, the connectivity between phone/TV/Bluetooth headphones just isn’t comparable to other smart TVS. All that being said, when it works, it works well. So I don’t want to take that away. They ruined the app to rip us off.The new update is awful. The app barely works anymore as well as the changes just being completely unnecessary and buggy. Also, love (this is extreme sarcasm) how you went from no ads on the Roku Channel to now every 5 minutes there’s three ads. There was never a single ad before, now I’m harassed by them. Roku remote in the app almost NEVER worksThe main reason why I downloaded this app was to have the remote on my phone if the physical remote is out of reach or I can’t find it. Well, it’s pretty useless when 9 times out of 10 the app won’t connect to my TV. My router is in the same room as the TV so it should be no problem. I don’t know if it’s because it’s the Roku TV (which we have had so many problems with so far that I regret not just buying a regular TV and getting a Roku stick instead) or what, but it’s pretty annoying and inconvenient. You can search specific media in the Roku app too, but when I try to select anything that way I get an error message… so I can’t play from the app, can’t use the remote in the app. What is this thing even good for?? Reached out to Roku support regarding my hands-free remote and spoke with someone named Neil. When I say “Hey Roku”, the whole TV freezes and restarts twice. Every time. It was obvious that Neil had no idea how to fix this as he said the ROKU hands free remote is not compatible with my ROKU TV (despite the website specifically saying that my remote is compatible with my TV), and he suggested I contact the TV manufacturer. Annoying connection issuesI don’t know if this is ever going to get fixed but regardless how lazy it is, I’m getting tired of literally every single day having to get back up and pretty much power cycle restart my TV in order to use the app for anything on it. Changing volume, changing installed tv applications, powering on/off, anything. The connection lasts about maybe an hour if I’m lucky before I have to reset the TV again or the app is just useless because it won’t connect. I’ve had this issue for years and nothings changed except for the problem becoming more and more recurring and persistent. I lost the pill sized remote that comes with the tv when I was moving a while back so I just relied on the app but it’s been as described above. Usually I do everything I have to do before I chill and relax and then have to get right back up if I want to use my TV or I have to add power cycling the TV to my daily routine. I would’ve got another brand if I knew this would be such a persistent issue honestly. The other smart TVs in the house don’t have this problem with other remote apps and they’re a bit older than the one in question. PLEASE fix this issue Roku like I said it isn’t world ending catastrophe level problems but it’s getting pretty aggravating at this point because it’s literally every day and if it won’t connect to my phone it won’t connect to any. Not worth the aggravationMy review will say what many others have said, this app is subpar. I don’t know how or why it has a 4.7 star rating because it doesn’t deserve it. I imagine positive reviews are coming from people that are only using this app as a remote because they want to and not because they have to. For those of us we have lost the remote and are trying to use this app as an alternative won’t have much good to say about it. There are MAJOR connectivity issues. When it works, it works very well. The problem is that it almost never works. It can’t find the device on the network, it can’t connect even when it sees it, it disconnects, etc. There doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason to it. I have tried many different scenarios like maybe if I do this and then this it’ll work, blah blah blah. Good luck trying to figure out any logical explanation for it. I’ve concluded that the main purpose of this app for people that are trying to use that as a replacement remote is simply to get us to buy a new Roku remote control, which unfortunately cost almost as much as a streaming device. Never worksHate this app, never works. This app is a chore to use because you can’t ever get it to work properly. Phone and tv on the same WiFi network? Too bad, no devices available. Turned your data off? Too bad, no devices available. Even if you previously connected to it before it never works. If you try to connect to one you’ve already connected to it will not work. It will say something like “make sure it’s turned on” or “make sure it’s on the same network” even when it 100% of the time without a doubt is always on the same network otherwise I wouldn’t be able to use it, and it would say on the tv not connected. What ends up happening is I try any way I can to connect my phone to my tv in the first place, like forgetting the device, disconnecting and reconnecting my phone WiFi, closing and restarting the app, restarting my phone. Which I end up having to do a combination of multiple to all of these options for a hope of it working, which even then most of the time these options don’t help. Then if you are lucky enough to manage to connect your phone to the tv, you have to hope that it stays connected from that point, because more often than not it will disconnect on it’s own for seemingly no reason. The worst of all of this is that these flaws in the app seem intentional by the roku company as a way to generate more money in their pockets by selling remotes, because you can’t make money off of giving people a free remote app that works. I would hope that roku would care enough about the satisfaction of their customers above profits, and try to fix this app into a working product. This app never works properlyThis app is constantly having issues. My Wi-Fi connection is strong. It doesn’t matter how close my phone is to the Roku tv. I’ve tried restarting my tv and deleting the app and redownloading the app multiple times. It still has the same problems. Nothing helps. I downloaded this app because my tv remote is broken. This seemed like an easy solution. Nope. It doesn’t power on my tv like it’s supposed to so I always have to find some other way to do. Then if I get the tv on, the app won’t connect no matter what. I HATE THIS APP😐I got this app at first when I broke my remote and it was working so great and was connecting to my tv very easily. I’ve had it for a few months now and I hate it. After a while it started taking a while to connect to my tv but it eventually got there. One thing about me is I am very impatient but this app was the only thing I had to turn on my tv and go to apps so I put up with it anyways.I put up with this for a good while until it got to the point where it wouldn’t connect to my tv AT ALL. Was Great. But now I’m annoyed.I’ve used this app for a while to manage multiple devices. My experience until recently was mostly positive. It seemed lightweight, easy to use, and everything was organized intuitively. Then, some changes were made. For instance, volume and “channel select” buttons were added as a “bracket” on either side of the control pad. Then that change was reverted. There used to be an unobtrusive button at the bottom of the control screen that would bring up a list of recent apps. That’s been replaced by an obtrusive “My Roku” tab at the bottom of the control page that has to be raised (swipe up), mostly obscuring the remote interface with ad content just to access the recent apps list. Then closed (swipe down. swipe down again.) before the actual remote can be used. Since I spend most of my time in the app on this control screen, controlling devices remotely, because it IS a remote control app, this new tab that obscures the controls is super irritating. If I were in any way confident that this review would stay up should I give my unfiltered thoughts, you may rest assured they would be admissible in court. It isn't even the fact that this is a remote you buy for your phone to pretend the app does something---it's the principle of the thing that is so infuriating. Removing the accessibility of watching streaming services through your phone removes all but one purpose of the app, and this purpose is accomplished with ease by using the attached remote that comes with the Roku. This is an incredibly lazy product (shocker, I know), and disappointing on a scale I hadn't ever even expected, considering that virtually every streaming service allows you to stream video through your phone.
