I thought about titling this ALL YE LIBRIVOX LISTENERS REJOICE! But this app has more than just librivox. Sweetness. It is also a very stable audiobook player which has some really important features. First it downloads the ENTIRE book not single chapters. That may not seem too important but just try listening to long books like War and Peace or The three Musketeers downloaded one chapter at a time. It'll drive you nuts. It also doesn't crash when you you turn your device off or open other apps with the book playing in the background. I can't tell you how many times other apps have done that to me. This doesn't lose it's place. That will save a ton of headaches. It has the full librivox catalog and podiobooks! Topping on the cake is the sleep timer which if you fall asleep to audiobooks like I do is really nice. I didn't think I was going to get this app because I got the free version to crash but that only seems to be for the free version.
Beautiful update ! The sleek new presentation feels like a completely new app. Visually appealing and easy to navigate. Kudos to the developers. Still keeping my previous review comments: "Why pay to listen to books when thousands of FREE classics are available in one app? I enjoy using this app every day. Wide selection and mostly good readers. So many ways to make a selection - by topic, author, date of release, genre, or reader. A must-have for everyone who likes a "good read"." Recently (July 2017) I had my first difficult with the app. True to the excellence of the app, I received a quick response to my questions and prompt follow up thereafter. With so many other apps no response is ever received. Audiobooks customer support is quick and reliable. My thanks to tech support staff !
I got this to keep me occupied while I was driving or otherwise busy with projects and other things that require a lot of time and solitude. I never expected to come across such a rich collection of incredibly diverse genres and collections of books I have loved over my lifetime. It has books that I couldn't find on some premium subscription apps or libraries. Apps are easy to download and very stable. I have yet to find a book had doesn't come through crystal clear. If you love listening to classic books that you may or may not find anywhere else, this is perfect.
Reading has always been one of my greatest pleasures, but I have limited free time to sit down with a book. I like history and recently I’ve been reading more classics. I’ve been able to download many free audiobooks here of good to excellent quality. If there are several versions of a book I recommend you listen to a preview of each version before choosing one to download. Some readers are more talented than others or one reader might be more to your taste than another. I appreciate the free books and recommend this app if you enjoy audiobooks.
I really like the app and am finding some great books. The only issue I have is that I upgraded to the “premium” version but there is absolutely NO difference in my choices. With the exception as follows- The icon is dark red and there are 4 performances titled Globe radio Repertory. There’s no more books included in the premium version so I’m really NOT sure what I paid for. The description is exactly the same other than what I mentioned and there is no available information telling me what is additionally added with the premium app. I still like it but it does bother me that I paid money for something that I already had in the un upgraded version.

I love history, and I use this app when I want to listen to older historical works. I love the fact that you can access old, obscure historical books through this app. Not just US history, but global history! I just finished listening to “Tales of the Blackfleet of Glacier, Montana”. Also enjoyed works by Edith Wharton and early works of Mark Twain. Plan to delve into some westerns, next. They also have old time radio I haven’t even gotten too, yet. Yes, they also have new titles. But why bother when you’ve already downloaded those other apps? Use THOSE for the new titles, instead.
I love all the free classics and Indy books, and don’t mind paying for premium books once in a while because of course you are supporting the authors, narrators and production companies. The format and search could use some updates, as well as adding the feature of letting us know the length of the recording and whether we’ve listened to the book yet. It also kills my phone battery but I carry a portable battery.
This app is amazing! There are so many items available for FREE! The sound quality is wonderful on almost everything I have listened to. I have been enjoying “Old Time Radio” in the horror/thriller section. The best part, you can download all the items instead of having to stream them online...FOR FREE! There are so many little gems hidden on this app! I have an Audible membership, and find this app is a wonderful “extra” for finding those old radio shows. I think this app even has much better sound quality too. I would highly recommend it to everyone. Especially those interested in the classics of yesteryear.
I only listen to the free Librivoz books on here, because even though audiobooks on here aren’t too bad compared to what I’ve seen, I still can’t really afford them. So my advice only applies to Librivox. Read the descriptions, and check all versions of the book you pick out! It’s really annoying when there’s 17 different people reading and can usually be avoided by finding another version. I do wish browsing were easier on here, but I’m willing to sacrifice because it is a LOT of free content. Definitely counting down some author death anniversaries for public domain.
I've listened to many free audiobooks, via this App. I really like it! Such a wide range of choice. I wish the basic screen with Tracks, Sleep timer, etc. was in larger font. I shouldn't have to put glasses on just to set sleep timer. It's great to listen to an audiobook to fall asleep. I also listen when I'm doing tasks that require my eyes, but not much thinking. I highly recommend this App.
I don't know how I would get through a day without it. Wonderful for household jobs that occupy your hands but not your brain; the time just flies by. I've also enjoyed hearing lots of works I've wanted to read all my life but never could find sit-down time for. All the readers do a conscientious job, though the talent level does vary; some are really excellent for non-professionals.
I’ve read thousands of books over the decades. When I became ill with fibromyalgia I had to switch to audio books because I had difficulties trying to read. I have a few thousand of LibriVox books but I have the most enjoyment from my LibriVox stories. Robert Howard, Manly Wade Wellman, Algernon Blackwood, Seabury Quinn, et al. Just too much fun! And Audiobooks HQ+ is my favorite reader!
This is, without question, the very best app for locating and listening to audiobooks, podiobooks, and historic radio broadcasts. Nothing else I have tried even comes close. I recommend it without reservation. Inkstone also makes an app for locating free ebooks. Just as this is the finest audiobook app, the other is the ultimate app for finding and downloading ebooks. Every bibliophile should own both apps!
There are glitches, but I use this app almost all the time. I love listening to the great books and stories. The worst part for me is going thru the titles trying to remember if I have listened to the book or not. Wish there was a way to mark as read even if one has deleted the download. I heartily recommend this app!
This is a brief joint broadcast of CBS and NBC covering the Armistice in June of 1940 between Germany and France. In essence, it was a French surrender to Nazi Germany. Not a lot of the details were known until later, but this report gives one a sense of being there. I do hope that these contemporary reports of the war are being preserved, as they are a first draft of the history of humanity’s worse conflict.
I've been "reading" many old favorites and some I've always meant to try. Really appreciate this app! One thing, I wish it could access the library of the previous version so as to combine the two in one app. Or maybe this is already possible some way (other than re-downloading)...?
This is like 1 stop shopping. Whatever your tastes, you can find it here. That being said, and I know it is free, LibriVox can do better. Some of the readers are just terrible. Doesn’t anyone look at the comments? 5 stars, and a few more for the developers of this app. Ya’ll did great. Thank you.
This is a really great app to use for audiobooks, but there are a couple bugs that are really annoying. First, whenever your book is interrupted, you have to hit play twice. Second, whenever you download something, the download resets, it in-downloads a portion of it, and resets if you leave the app. Also, can you get more audiobooks? Specifically the Spy School series? Thanks
I challenge you to use this and save money on audible subscriptions which Limit you in so many ways. This has a wonderful selection and I prefer it to Libby because you just download and don’t have to borrow.
Oh thank you Lord for audio books. Two years ago I was an insomniac. Then I discovered audio books and every night since then I’ve listened to incredible novels, poems and tales that lull me to sleep. I’ve learned so much and always have wonderful dreams. Thank you, thank you so much!
I have listening to this for 2 years. Once in a while a read is not very good but you get over that real quick there's so much to listen to so much talent out there thank you
I like to listen to Old Time Radio mysteries and comedies. Audiobook HQ gives you access to near 80,000 radio shows on your tablet or smartphone. It functions well, never had a glitch. And, it's easy to use. You also get access to readings of classic literature and new offerings. All for free.
The current iteration of this app is a pleasure to use and allows excellent navigation through the innumerable books available. Readers on Librivox retain the capacity to make ordinary books exciting while sometimes making great books unbearable.
I have had Libavox for several years, I fully enjoy the selection and the stories. The narrators are very good and help to make the experience one of pleasure to listen to and feel you are a part of!
I just use this app for Librivox books. It’s outstanding for that, and that’s saying a lot: most of the other apps are terrible for this purpose. I would give the app five stars if it weren’t prone to lose one’s place, especially in conjunction with the Apple watch.
I have finally found an app that supplies my passion for reading/listening to books. I have trouble holding things up or in my hands for any time as I drop them. This is so wonderful. Thank you again.
I love this app It's great, accessible to use as a blind person, and you can download the books with no problems. Everyone should get this app to read a good book.
I have enjoyed this app many times over and I can't express enough how great it is. The new updated format is easier to use to boot!
Wonderful to explore fine literature, high- and low-brow. A huge range from which to choose, for free! Makes me wish often that I had more storage room/memory on my phone. LOL. You can't go wrong, something for everyone.
Listening to the old radio show and seeing how advertising took it over “Roma wines”. Hearing old movie stars when they were young. Try to listen to one a night. No TV...just listening.
I love listening to the autobiographies, the non-fiction works, and the travel logs. I’m convinced since I hit 53, that this app is the reason I don’t need anything else to sleep! 😴
I’ve been using this app for a long time. Two thumbs up always. Great choices and great functioning platform. Always happy with this one.
I have been listening to OTR shows for several months and just love going back into time when radio shows were popular. I'm so happy I found these shows on Audiobooks!
As a fan of old time radio, I am delighted to find an app with just about all available radio shows from the 1940s and beyond. Easy to navigate with superb sound quality. Well done.
Audiobooks are a great asset. I am able to enjoy books while doing work on the farm. I am grateful for a technical advance that allows me to study whenever I wish. Thanks so much.
Simply awesome old time radio. You also get the classics in audio format. and the whole thing doesn’t cost you a dime. Good stuff.
I’ve always been an avid reader, but since I drive for a living this app makes it easy to enjoy new books on the road.
This app is excellent. I drive a lot for work and listening to audio books make the time pass quickly! Thank you Audiobooks!
If you want to take in some librevox listening, this is how you want to do it. Get this app. Pay the dollar or so to get rid of the ads and enjoy your free audiobooks.
Very rewarding! I listen to mostly inspirational books, this has truly been a wonderful find for me. I cannot recommend it enough.
I can’t edit my previous review with 4 stars saying there’s no speed control. Found it! Very pleased with this app.
Two bucks for an audio library. The price of a pack of gum nowadays. Good for long car rides or relaxing.
Sometimes the readers have present voices but they read too fast so I have to abort please as them to slow down aa tad, so much one has to enjoy the words not have them run in to one another !
This format is free which makes it 5 starts to start but then maintains that with the energy and enthusiasm of the readers!
So many available choices and new titles added frequently. Love it!
No subscription, tnx for the love 💕
I am one of those who feel guilty at the end of the day for not listening to their audiobooks. I have tried tones of other apps, both free and paid ones. But no free or relatively free audiobook bits this one. You can’t regret having it. I wish however, that the accumulation of listening time be incorporated. With that, you will have my fifth star.
I am a new user of this app, and so far cannot think of anything to complain about. Everything works has you you would expect, and so so many free audiobooks to choose from, what more could we ask for? I did upgrade to the paid version for a small fee. Blessings. GeorgeCharles68
I like listening to old time radio while driving
So easy to use. No subscription. Love this app!
Sweet free books. Most are on the old school scale but some solid classics. Top rated section finds the best narrators.
I was heading out walking and decided to try this App. Excellent quality of the presentation and loved the explanation. Super easy to use. Thanks
Public domain books available free, creative recordings, some better than others. Decent amount of content.
As a fan of novels and audiobooks, you genuinely can’t go wrong with the impressive library of free audiobooks. The UI is a bit tricky to navigate, but once you figure it out, you’ll definitely find it’s worth downloading.
I’m really enjoying this app. Well done!
32 yrs. police officer in Canada.... helps with PTSD .... thanks It puts me to sleep,.... I don’t know why, but it does. Thanks
I listened to many free books in the public domain and the app is wonderful; most recently I listened to stories by Chekhov. But So much depends on the person who reads the book for you. Most of the readers are very good though a few speakers were a bit hard to understand at times speaking vary fast or accents that were harder to follow. Still this is my favourite app for audiobooks
I have listened to various books and love all the selection!!
Toujours quelque chose de nouveau à trouver et beaucoup gratuit. Voix agréable. Plaisir garanti!
Bon
I love listening to old radio shows and also listening to books. This is a great app. Thank you for creating an awesome app.
As a life long Fantasy/SciFi junky I loved this book!
This was a excellent performance. I’m waiting for more!
Intéressant et très distrayant, merci
I love all of Jane Austin books and since I have trouble with my eyes the audiobooks are a God sent, so thank you.
Works flawless
Lots of nice audiobooks.
Lots of choice, works well never an issue. Use it all the time, only way I would get to hear some classic books I would never read in print form.
If you are interested in listening to classic novels, this is the app for you! Lots of choice for FREE!!!
Merci
Excellent book. Well written. Compelling storyline and heroic characters. Superb reading by Karen Savage with flawless British and French accents.
When I'm tired, it is so relaxing to close ones eyes and just enjoy the silence of your mind. Taking me away momentarily focusing on another world other than your own. The storyline may interest me and I'll enjoy the escape, if not, sleep soon relieves the now.
Very solid app.
Love having so much content available
So much content , I absolutely love it !!!
This Ap is pretty easy to navigate. A large choice of audiobooks are available.
Having audiobooks on my iPhone allows me to while away the hours while I drive to and from work on my long daily commutes. Instead of being frustrated with traffic and drivers I laugh and get excited and cry at all the wonderful stories of the places I'm being taken to by the writers available on audiobooks
I love this app, but if I use the "sleep" function on my iPhone my alarm doesn't go off in the morning. As long as the app is open, no alarm. Which makes the "sleep" function far less useful.
The best so far.
Great app easy to find books. Podcasts are fantastic. I use the app at school with my students to help them enjoy books above there current reading level. Audiobooks is a awesome calming strategy I suggest for students in all my classrooms.
Great app. Good search engine Easy to download Lets you listen to a bit before downloading Easy to find books by categories My favourite is "by reader" (if I can't understand the reader the book is worthless.) Also a good category is "Solo reader audiobooks " Thank you, developers and readers!
I enjoy listening to these classic works of literature, read by articulate and avid readers.
I think it's good
Good content stories little lawn needs to get more to the point sometimes but overall will read well received and will be enjoying more of his work in the future
Well read...great insights for today!
We'll worth the investment ant so many options to choose from
Although this is a less than desirable book the reader does a very good job at presentation.
Best audio app out there!!!
Great app, love the librivox books!
Good
Audiobooks HQ + Negative Reviews and Ratings
The player is a nice player. Good UI. And has the features you’d expect. The problem though is that it loses its place every time I unlock my phone. Seems the Lock Screen ui is not synced to the full player or something. Even not using the Lock Screen ui when I unlock my phone the player stops and seems to go a prior location. I’ve missed so much of the book I’m listening to because I have to kind of find my position to pick up where I left off. This is one of the most basic functions you would expect to work. I’m using an iPhone 12 pro and iOS 14.2.
The biggest flaw in the app is its inconsistency in keeping ones place in the book. I usually listen on my phone while working out, and if I move to another app while listening to a book it usually loses its place and starts from my original place that day when I return to the app interface. Very annoying to constantly have to search for you place in the Audiobook. Also, the sections should have more divisions like the chapters in the actual book. I usually read the book simultaneously as I listen and have to search extensively in the audio to find coinciding place from the book.
I was just woken up in the middle of the night by this app suggesting that I download & listen to some audiobooks now. My phone was in airplane mode. I don't expect such things to happen while it's in airplane mode. I checked the settings for this app only to find that there is no way for me to select what kind of notifications I want to receive, if any. So now I will go to the Settings app to turn off notifications so that this doesn't happen again. However, I wonder what I might miss out on if I do. Very poor execution IMO.
Ive had this app for about 10 hours now. I have no data issues, other apps are downloading things just fine. This app? Not one track has loaded yet. I contacted customer service and was told sometimes the books can a long time…books maybe but not a single track.
I really want to love this app but I am finding it more and more difficult to use it. The app is unresponsive when I click on any button. It takes at least 15-30 seconds for it to recognize I touched a button. This is especially frustrating when it stops after each chapter and you have to hit next.
Search function not working and the developer not responding to question and problem reporting.
Not worth the money. Barely any free books and most are older. Cost per book is also way too high.
The story itself is tremendous !! It is a classic that everyone should read ... The narration of this version is hard to understand at times due to the poor quality of recording in some cases and the dictation in others. None the less I listened to all 128 chapters as the story was captivating and the writing ingenious ...
The app is not intuitively clear, hard to use, I regret I paid for the pro version
I paid $3 just to know the price of books on iTunes. Complete BS
