Finally!!I have been searching for a simple, audio file to text software that was accurate, actually worked (for some reason, of the 10 I tried, only one was able to upload my m4a files!). I was about to purchase an expensive online subscription service, though I may only need like 6 hours of transcription a month, but figured for 5 dollars, no free trial was totally worth it. MY GOD this is amazing. So simple, no fluff, but ACCURATE and FAST and OFFLINE! Wow! I’m a medical student using this to transcribe lectures to make AI gen concept maps/practice questions and this is perfect! It transcribes the fancy medical jargon perfectly. I’ve only done one lecture but it “plasmapheresis” and “IgG” were spelled correctly. My professor speaks clearly so time will tell if it continues to blow my mind, but thought I would share. For those looking for some fancy bulleted full sentence/punctuation easy to read file - this may not be it (but c’mon- you can figure that out given all the free AI tech out there), but for those wanting accurate text transcription from an audio file- please just stop wasting time like I did- literally downloaded 7 different apps with free trials, a few online versions - all expensive - cheapest with accuracy was 120/yr - or a disappointment). The rain noise clearly exceeded the auditory words“Added after transcription: the rain storm almost completely obliterated the last half of the auditory saves, so corrections were needed. I couldn’t quite make everything out but it is a tribute to the program’s author that any of this even exists.” I was driving in a rainstorm that could not be avoided and had started a verbal dictation before the rainstorm started. The phone was held on a magnetic mount and I pulled over till the worst passed. I continued dictating so as not to lose the flow. The rain noise in the “auditory saves” on listening clearly exceeds the words in volume but somehow the program got enough to allow me to correct the speech to text it transcribed. Doesn’t work on my iPhoneUpdate: I received a response from the developer, who seemed genuinely sorry that the app didn’t work for me and explained that it’s because it’s not compatible with older iPhones. They said that they have updated the app description to give adequate warning of this. Changing my rating to four stars for good ethics! ORIGINAL REVIEW: I like this concept, as I am off grid a lot and prefer to keep AI off my phone. However, I downloaded the app and it only worked the first time. On my second test, it’s been trying to transcribe a one minute recording for half an hour and it still not completed. In addition, the app keeps closing itself. I attempted to follow the refund request procedure as outlined in the app, only to find it is not eligible for a refund. Unfortunately, this has been a waste of money. I do have an older phone, a 2020 iPhone SE, but would expect at least some baseline level of functionality. Great App, Needs Bigger Whisper Models for Newer PhonesWhisper Notes is a solid app overall. I really like that it runs locally on-device, is fast, private, and does not require a subscription. The transcription is impressively quick, and the Whisper option does a good job with technical terms compared to a lot of built-in dictation tools. My main complaint is that on newer, more powerful iPhones, I wish there were higher-quality Whisper model options available. My phone can clearly handle the current models very quickly, so I would gladly trade speed for accuracy and let a larger model take longer if it meant better transcription. Right now the iOS model options feel limited compared to what newer hardware should be capable of. I am more than astounded and I am grateful.I have written few reviews previously. I have now downloaded and used Whisper Notes on my iPhone, iPad and MacBook. I have done trial dictations on all 3. Surely the day will come when it makes a mistake but that day has not come for me yet. I can see that I may one day say, “ I can’t imagine what I ever did without it.” I think this may change education in ways I wish I had seen, in my younger years. Nice iOS voice memo replacement that can also be used as a language learning toolThis app completely replaced iOS built in voice memo app. Transcription is fast and accurate, all done on-device. Also discovered that I can use this app as a tool for learning a new language. There are a few features that I would like implemented in the future. Copy to clipboard toggle: Right now the app automatically copies transcribed text to the clipboard. There should be a toggle to turn this off or make this action manual so it doesn’t accidentally override content already in the clipboard. Make text selectable in the transcribed text screen: Discovered I can use this app to quickly translate words when watching foreign language TV by using iOS built-in translate function. Right now I have to go to the edit screen to make a text selection to use the translate function. Can reduce a step if I can make text selection directly on the main transcribed text screen. Bug with shortcut: I’m using the latest iOS 18.5. This app shows up in the shortcut app and in the control center action as a timer. Clicking on the action doesn’t do anything. Very accurateWhile the accuracy of this app is impressive, it does not address my immediate needs. I use VoiceOver and voice control simultaneously and need live transcription to allow for immediate edits before copying the text to be used in other apps. The accuracy when using voice control is pretty pathetic often requiring words to be spelled out letter by letter to avoid capitalization errors and vulgarity from being inserted when it wasn't spoken even though I am in a very quiet place. I will let several of my friends know about this app. It is pretty rare these days to find an app without subscriptions which is greatly appreciated for those of us on a very limited disability income..WhiplashZamboniManVersion: 1.2.9

WisperStarted using Whisper Notes during my morning commute to capture random ideas before I forgot them, and it’s been surprisingly accurate even when I’m speaking quickly. I tested it with both short reminders and longer brainstorming sessions, and the transcription was cleaner than I expected with very little editing afterward. I also like that the interface stays simple instead of burying basic features under too many menus. Great for meetingsI like the app, I have been using it for several months now. Enhancements I would like (1) option to show the date/time of recording start. The existing date displayed is not useful. (2) ability to set recording duration. If my meeting is 30 minutes, it would be great to have it automatically stop at 35 or 40 minutes if i don’t manually stop it. I sometimes forget to stop the recording and then i am either capturing 2 meetings on one recording or I have also forgotten about it for hours because there is nothing to remind me that i am still recording. It’s buggy, but great when it worksI can't say too much bad about the app when it works, but unfortunately, about one out of every five times, it gives you the record sound, but it doesn't transcribe, and then sometimes it'll transcribe, and when you go to paste, it has your text over and over again copied in different areas of the transcription. Fantastic mp3 transcription!I’m a student and use this mainly for audio files I’m assigned to listen to and write essays on. I have a difficult time paying attention to audio lectures and prefer to read. This app solved my dilemma at a one time cost of $7. Totally worth it, especially when compared to the pricey cloud-based AI transcription services that seem to average $100 or more annually. The Best On-Device Transcription Available. Period.I spent a while researching the various apps that utilize real Whisper for transcriptions. I know the developer cannot control this limitation, but the app would be 50 times more useful to me if it could identify speakers within a conversation. I still have to pay for Otter to do this and I’d love to switch to an all-local option. Amazing appI often think of story ideas late at night, but find it difficult to actually sit at a computer and type, or even type on my phone. This app has changed that and helped me easily get down 100s of pages of writing and concepts. Transcription ok, basic features missingThe transcription works pretty well. It is easy to record a meeting. The recordings are listed in order but the date/time displayed is not the date/time the recording began. It is the date/time the transcription completed which is not helpful. There is no option to name the recording, label or archive them. Also, in the view that lets you listen to snippets of the recording and see the transcribed text you can’t edit the transcription. Great app!This is a wonderful speech-to-text app -- so much more accurate than Appl'e Siri voice transcription. Maybe 3% as many errors. Will it ever support Metal or the neural engine to improve performance? I have to say that Yeonni has done a really great job at making this app. In fact, I'm writing this review by talking to the app. It's affordable, slick, fast, functions really well, and has all the features that I could imagine you'd want in such an app. Yeonni, I have three feature suggestions for you, if you’re interested: The first one is to let us edit the text of a recorded “chat” by again talking to the app. I thought this was already implemented because when I choose to edit the text of a recorded chat, I see a waveform-like icon on the right side of the top bar (on the left of the green check mark icon), but clicking on that waveform icon does nothing. The second one is to allow us to download other AI models offline and choose between them. DisappointedIm so sad. I was so excited to find this app as a way of writing a book through voice memos and exploration. most other transcription apps punctuate poorly or record in note taking styles/bullet points. I recorded close to thirty minutes of audio yesterday and when I completed it, it began transceibing. The app warns that it starts slowly and learns to get faster, so after a couple of monutes and it only having transcribed 2% of my recording, I switched to another app to focus on in the meantime. I then went to bed forgetting to check it back on my recording. Today I opened whisper to see no record of the recording, as if it never happened; not even a blank audio or failure message. This literally made me cry, as I can never repeat or fully remember the narration of the ideas I recorded. I am so disappointed, this app has lost my trust..NeninanineVersion: 1.3.5

Transcription issues make reliableI’ve been using Whisper Notes for extended recordings and keep running into major problems. In 10+ recordings the transcript is one sentence followed by [Inaudible] [Inaudible] [Inaudible] for the pages and pages . Start of recordings get randomly cut off ( 2 minutes, 5 minutes, 10 minutes) with no error message or notification. No settings changes fixed it, and this happens even with the built-in mic, Bluetooth off, skip-silence disabled, and language set correctly. Bugs make the app unreliable for serious note-taking. If the raw audio is intact, the transcription engine is failing badly; if the audio is missing, the recording feature itself is broken. Why use this over notes app?Bought this thinking it would be better than just using the voice recording in the notes app. It’s not. The actual transcription doesn’t seem any better than the built in Apple one - in fact, it seems worse. There is no speaker diarization, so all speakers get merged into one and there is no distinction between who said what. Has a hard time with accents and non-American names. Definitely should not be a paid app…Was able to transcribe some files, but the app is inconsistent in its ability to identify speakers, regularly crashes over and over, and I was also never able to download the larger language model despite having enough RAM and storage space on my device. Crashes when importing larger filesThis feels like a work in progress. It seems to a good job transcribing voice to text when recording live, or from audio files that had been previously recorded, IF they were small. However, when a longer file was loaded (eg, a 30-minute MP3) it immediately crashes and closes. When reopened, the file is loaded, but says only “Transcription error”. NonfunctionalI’ve tried several files, none have processed—I get the counter at the top, up to 100%, and then it looks like it’s still thinking for hours, without producing any transcription. I’ve tried this on an iPad Pro and an iPhone XS using iOS18.6.x, using both mp3s and m4as. I notice the developer mentioned file size/length in another reply—but what is this file-size/length limitation and where is it specified?
