I’ve Always Been a Fan of Scribd

I loved the original Scribd, and yes it split into two separate companies, Scribd and Everand, very recently, which I’m sure was for a very good reason, at least enough for the company to make such a big decision. It seems that a lot of people are so far unhappy with the big change, but please read on. I hope my experience will inspire you to give the company a chance at least until it gets back on its feet. One MAJOR IMPROVEMENT I see on Everand (where the audiobooks and ebooks are now) is that I no longer seem to be dealing with errors when it comes to trying to listen to certain audiobooks that used to give me the persistent errors claiming that I’ve exceeded the number of devices I’ve been listening to the audiobook on. I would go through all the troubleshooting (i.e. check for the said devices on my account only to find nothing, delete and redownload the app, update the app, sign out and sign back into the app, contact support) all to no avail. It seemed that the problem WAS bigger as even the troubleshooting steps provided by Scribd’s GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE team didn’t work. For this, I’M THANKFUL ‘cause NOW, I can finally listen to my audiobooks without the dreading feeling of, “Is it gonna play this time? Or am I gonna have to troubleshoot again for the next 20+mins?” I’m guessing that this issue (as I wasn’t an isolated case here upon me looking into the issue) may be one of the key points in the decision-making process. As for now, since they’ve barely started with the 2 apps, I am genuinely excited and will look forward to more updates in the near future. Scribd has been my favorite audiobook/ebook service (in many ways I prefer it over Kindle/Audible) and I’ve been a customer for a couple of years so I’ve seen and experienced the changes and growth. I would like to see more of what they have in store for us.

Better than the rest

I am so glad to have stumbled upon this app! I have used Audible, kindle, Google/Apple books/podcast apps. Scribd/Everand outdoes them all. There is nothing that compares. It's a one-stop “shop” for Audiobooks, e-books, digital newsprints, magazines, podcasts, blogs, pdf documents (my favorite feature), and more. A person can upload a document, such as worksheets, study guides, or even sheet music, for others to access. Pretty much anything I have ever seen in print I have been able to find on this site. There are no credits or pay-per-book. You can save books to your library, customize and organize different folders, and download your reading for offline viewing. Hands down one of the best apps I have found. Well worth the subscription!!

What has happened ? “I’m not a robot”

I’ve been asked to sign back into my account from the app. I’ve tried several times, but I am unable to. From my iPhone, it’s hung up on the “I’m not a robot”. What is the fix or is there an update that will fix this

I was charged for the monthly subscription but after requesting refund, they fully refunded with an understanding attitude. Also I did enjoy using this app when I used it. I recommend.

Two problems

I don’t love the decision to separate the documents from official books, but I’m sure there’s a reason. However, with the stuff that now makes up all of the Scribd app, there are two problems that make it way more difficult to use than it should be. First, you still see the things you’ve saved in Everand. There’s no reason for this. If I want to see those, I will open Everand. Second, Scribd has always been bad about saving your place in documents. When you close a doc, you absolutely must make a bookmark. This seems like something they should have figured out by now. Otherwise, quite good.

JcnullVersion: 14.1
Where is My Stuff?

I’m trying to keep an open mind with this Everand x Scribd merger. Frankly, as a user, it is extremely inconvenient to browse content on two different apps, when it used to be on one app. Navigating my “saved” items has been a nightmare. Here are some examples: I look for a “document” on scribd, but can’t find it. Hop over to Everand, and find it there (turns out it was an “E-Book). Then I look for “sheet music’ on Everand, and again, can’t find it until I switch over to Scribd, and see that the “sheet music” was actually technically a “document”. Are you following my logic? Fellow users, can we relate? Also underscored is the inevitable feeling that these two services, currently covered under one subscription to Scribd, will eventually be two separate subscriptions (hopefully us founding users will be grandfathered into 1 sub). I would love to know the real reason for this change. My guess is either copyright issues (e-books being pirated as “documents” on scribd), or financial issues (joining forces with other companies to compete with Audible / Kindle). Because let’s be clear, the fact that the segregation of content actually makes it EASIER for users (as they claimed), is fundamentally untrue. I actually have empathy for whatever reason forced Scribd’s hand on this new direction. I proudly endorse this product as a superior alternative to Kindle and Audible. That being said, the execution and lack of transparency is disappointing.

I have canceled my subscription and they kept charging my account

This is not the first time I’ve experienced an issue with unauthorized charges on my account. Previously, I had to dispute a charge with my bank, which led to my card being re-issued. I’m finding it difficult to understand why I’m still being charged for a subscription I canceled months ago. This cancellation was confirmed by one of your customer service representatives. If needed, I can provide email correspondence to verify this. At this point, I’m concerned that my account will be charged again at the end of the month for a subscription I have not used. While I understand that investigations may be necessary, the inconvenience this has caused me over a $24 charge is frustrating, especially considering this is not the first time I’ve raised this issue with your company. I’ve already responded to your customer service team, who requested additional information such as screenshots of the charge and partial card details. However, I’d like to stress the urgency of resolving this issue promptly to avoid having to file another dispute with my bank. I do not wish to leave a negative review, but I will be forced to do so if the issue remains unresolved. I am willing to update my feedback once I see that the matter is properly handled and my account is fully refunded, with assurance that I won’t be charged again. I trust you will address this as soon as possible and provide a timely resolution. Sincerely,

KEEPS CHARGING MY ACCOUNT

I have never written a review for an app before but felt the need to share my experience with this app. I only downloaded the app and really never got a chance to use it so I deleted it off of my phone. But for weeks now it attempts to charge my account. Luckily I gave it an account that I use only to pay bills when I transfer money on to the account so it hasn’t been successful in withdrawing the money. But every few days I get the notification of it attempting to charge my account. I can only imagine on of these days if I have only exact money for rent or my car payment and the charge for this app goes through then it will cause my account to overdraft and I will get charged extra fees from the bank. It’s only a matter Of time till that happens. I have tried to redownload the app and delete it again but to avail. Honestly don’t know what to do at this point. I don’t make much money so I don’t have the luxury of going through that scenario which I feel at this point is inevitable.

Unwanted Charges That Won’t Stop

Cancelled my Scribd subscription back in November of 2022 through Apple. Received confirmation from Apple that it wouldn’t charge me any further. However, unbeknownst to me, Scribd somehow acquired my credit card info, and restarted charging me every month. It was on a credit card I rarely use and had set to auto-pay, and only noticed recently. It has been a nightmare going back and forth from Apple to Scribd, as both say the other one is at fault. I’m going to have to work through my credit card company and just do a charge back and stop payment. Both Apple and Scribd dropped the ball, and both are making it very difficult to get any refund or at the very least, the charges stopped. Buyers beware!

SarcasmIsNiceVersion: 14.7
What type of SCAM!?

I downloaded “Scribd” , yes it does give you a bunch of books / audios you can read. When I signed up for the trial, I made sure to sign up and cancel right away so I wouldn’t forget. This was in September. It even showed up in my subscriptions as expired. Then I had two charges made, one in October and one in November. I decide to go into the app to contact the company for refunds and I couldn’t find the app… because it had turned into “Everand” !?! But then there’s also this new “Scribd” that looks just like the old one??? This is sketchy. Be ware that that free trial, isn’t going to be free. I wish apple would let me show pictures of both these accounts + the expired trial notification & charges.

Yaira333Version: 13.17
Cost me $

Before the change with Everand I needed certain pieces of music at a moment’s notice and most every piece of sheet music wouldn’t load. Even though I was paying for the use of music through this app, I had to purchase the music from another source to use. This in the end cost me over $100. I had to delete the app, re-install it, and start all over downloading every bit of my sheet music again. I messaged back and forth for months and they couldn’t figure out the problem. When I made it known that their issues cost me lots of money, they couldn’t care any less. They offered no compensation for my troubles. Customer care was useless.

The Douglas PVersion: 14.3.4
Won’t let you delete your account

First they make you subscribe just to get the one document you need. Then they bank on you forgetting about it. Then you cancel your subscription but won’t let you delete your account for a month. Screw you you snakes. I almost deleted my one star review until your “customer support” emailed me back with deletion request and it was a garbage ai email telling me how to cancel my subscription. Again screw you you snakes. Taking advantage of busy people so they sneak our dollars out the back door when we’re not looking and won’t let you leave once you’re stuck.

My subscription ended early!

My subscription is not set to expire until tomorrow. That means I should have access to it today. But yet early this morning I got a notification that my subscription has ended. That’s right! My subscription ended a day early. I’m owed an extra day. This better get fixed. I am not happy at all. it said I would have access to my subscription until it canceled out. I just wanted to let it cancel out because I wanted to see if the annual plan would be available. This is very frustrating.

Scam

I have cancelled over a year ago. I kept getting billed even though I reported my card if fraud through my bank and they issued me a new one with a new number. I emailed support because they don’t have a phone number (convenient) and they said my account has been cancelled way back in 2024. I just got charged again on the 30th. I am beyond frustrated. I am reaching out to a lawyer because this is insanity and I’m not the only one this is happening too. Class action lawsuit …get ready scribd or whatever you want to call yourselves these days

Keep Charging me even after I cancel subscription.

This company is a joke, non of the resource is even worth the subscription, I ended my subscription but still got charged every month, even after their customer service said that they going to cancel all auto payment under my account but they sill charging me, and guess what the phone number listed on their company website is non-working number. Don't do the mistake I did, not worth it. They have not even resolving my issues until now.

Bona PurbaVersion: 15.1.2
Disable Captcha, please

For whatever reason, and I see this from time to time with app developers that don’t ever seem to use their own apps, there are obvious bugs that everyone should catch immediately. With this app, when I go to login, it wants you to login with a browser built-in into the app. However, the login page has a captcha on it, but their browser that is built into the app doesn’t work with that. So there is no way to actually log into the app, no matter how many times you try.

Membership Changes are Awful

I used to subscribe to Everand and Scribd. Last week I was sent a 30 day free trial membership. After I signed up, I realized that most of the books were locked. After I unlocked one book and read it, I started looking for the next read. MOST OF THE BOOKS WERE LOCKED—EVEN OLDER BOOKS THAT HAD BEEN FREE BEFORE. I CANCELLED THE TRIAL MEMBERSHIP IMMEDIATELY. Everand/Scribd made it difficult to cancel. I couldn’t cancel through the app. Did some private equity company buy Scribd and Everand?

DON’T DOWNLOAD THIS APP

Don’t sign up for the free trial. It says you won’t be charged anything for a free month, but when I canceled, a $1 transaction appeared. It was refunded within a minute, showing that I had received a refund. However, later I was charged twice for $1.50. I hope they don’t take money from my account again without my consent, because this time it was $3, but they could take more from someone else.

Complete Scam

Bought a car manual that didn’t include any of the stated information - wasn’t model and engine specific with accurate and relevant specs for vehicle as described. After canceling subscription and obtaining a refund through PayPal’s dispute process, the company had the gall to then attempt to charge my Apple Card multiple times. Buyer beware - do not trust this company’s word. Their business model is without ethics.

Scribd was an amazing app when i joined; a wide selection, easy-to-use interface, and the promise of “unlimited” reading made it one of my go to platforms.
