Ticket to Ride: The Board Game App Comments & Reviews

Ticket to Ride: The Board Game Positive Reviews

Updates have been really nice!I previously reviewed this at 2 stars when it first came out. From color issues, to screen display, to animation scenes, to periodic crashing… it needed a lot of improvement. The app just did not seem refined. However, I have given it a try again recently, and they have done a great job addressing nearly all the issues. I am seriously happy and impressed. Colors are a lot better to look at, they have added black outline to the edges of train tracks, and boards giving the app a more appealing look and the animation of zooming in and out has gone away which is kind of nice. My only critique would be I wish I could play with the expansions when playing with friends who don’t have the expansion. I think it would be an awesome way to advertise the new boards and get more people interested in purchasing the expansions. But all in all, the developers are doing a great job fixing the bugs and issues and I am looking forward to playing TTR more now!.Version: 1.1.3

Mostly good, with some frustrating bugsOverall good implementation of the board game. AI plays a reasonable though not great game. Two flustering bugs I’ve run into several times: first, when all the cards are in the players hands, the AI often hangs. This can be worked around by exiting and then restarting the game but after the fourth or fifth time of doing this, it definitely breaks up the flow and enjoyment of the game. Second, the stations are not always handled correctly and routes that rely on them credited. Sometimes you get the credit sometimes not. Seems to mostly happen when you put a station on a city that only has other players routes and not one of yours. My reading of the rules I should still be able to take one of the other players routes from a station out of the city to a city with one of my routes and complete my overall ticket route, but the computer does not credit me with these..Version: 1.0.13

Development build so willing to give it timeEDIT: After getting the regular build, things seem to be much better but I still run into this annoying bug where sometimes you drop a route but the game instead of using the route for your turn instead draws a card and the cards you are trying to drop as the route just keep hanging there. Your turn finishes and in the next turn the “flying” cards drop back down in your deck. Basically you lost a turn for no reason. This needs fixing as this keeps repeatedly happening and you have to quit the game. Lets be honest - the development build sold for $4.99 is terrible. The game is so buggy in its current state. Game hangs sometimes when it’s starting sometimes in the middle of games. The UI still works then but no progress on the game until you reload. The dropping of trains on to the mall sometimes just does nothing, it is very random and keeps wasting time so Blitz version is unplayable. I am willing to give it time and revise this review should they fix the bugs..Version: 1.1.1

Fun but buggyThis game is so addictive and has lots of potential. For this, I did buy the early bird pack to support updates to the play because it has some bugs that need to be fixed asap. Primarily, the issue with the game dealing incorrect cards or not letting you place train cars on the board. Marmalade, I have a screen recording if you want it. In my last game play, I tried several times to place 6 yellow train cars on the board, but it always dealt me cards from the deck when I hit the check, ark to place the cars. Another issue I had in that same game was it dealing incorrect cards. I would choose maybe a white card at the very top of the 5 face up card options, but instead it dealt from the deck. Other times I would choose a certain color card, say green, and was give a different color. Mind you, it didn’t matter the color I choose, it just didn’t deal the correct color. The wild thing was sometimes it dealt a color from the face up pile that wasn’t even a current face up colored card, so it’s not as if your finger may have tapped too high or too low and it dealt the neighboring card. No, it just dealt a random color card instead. Please fix these bugs asap. I lost several areas of the board simply because the game has these bugs. This game will be so awesome if/ when these issues are resolved..Version: 1.1.3

Fun Game but a Few Additions Would HelpOverall this is a great game that mimics the physical board game well. When I first bought the game, there were some serious issues with the game that have since been resolved. One feature that could be added is a notification when it is someone’s turn on the async mode. Having a notification pop up on my phone or on the app would help speed up async play. Another feature could be a history of wins or a way to track previous games. Maybe add in achievements to make playing the game more worth while. Overall a great game though..Version: 1.1.3

Too much colorAppreciated developers responding to me. Will encourage family and friends to buy the game so we can play together IF they get rid of all the confusing colors on the board and go back to a white background. As I said, their attempt to put in so much color ruins it. The colors bleed into one another and it’s hard distinguish the trains and routes from the background. After playing a game you’ll need to rest your eyes. All they need to do is give an option of using the ‘classic board’ (simple, basically white, without a bunch of coloration) and this gets 5 stars. The movement of trains onto the board is annoyingly slow but they think it’s somehow an improvement. OK- I can live with that. Changing from 2 stars I gave originally to 3 because I did get a response. Hope I can give it 5 someday when they get rid of all that color!.Version: 1.2.2

It’s ok. Needs a few improvements.First off I do enjoy playing it on my down time and it is a good time filler. My two issues are differentiating the trains from the placement on the board. The colors of the trains make it hard to distinguish the routes taken. My other complaint is that the ticket cards have been tapped on accident a couple of times resulting in the current tickets to be cancelled out. There should be a back button or something to cancel out this problem. Many times I have been working on a route, hit the ticket button on accident and the game forcing me to pick new routes. This is very infuriating when I’m working on a route and then foregoing all my hard work and having to restart the game. There needs to be something to prevent this from happening..Version: 1.0.13

Great graphics, smooth gameplay, well doneThe game looks great. People complaining about the grapics just need glasses, or just zoom in. At a glance i can still see clearly where the pieces lie despite the board busy busy. It is a busy game with a lot of moving pieces and parts, thats the nature of the game Wasnt a waste of money, plays so smoothly. Devs did a great job with the ui to account for all of these moving pieces without sacrificing number of clicks. Things are sized apportiately and pushed to the sites out of the eay of the board. On tinier screens you need more precision to click on what you intend to, but it is doable and i had no struggle with the gameplay. Well done!.Version: 1.0.12

Great New Implementation!A lot of the negative reviews on here have to do with the fact that the old version has been retired due to a change in developer. This is a review of the ACTUAL game. I have to say, the look and feel of he new TTR is just better and more professional. The screen information is clear, the pop up hints and tutorials are great, and they have been working hard to clean up any bugs. Great start! I’ve also been really impressed with the speed and competence of their support when their has been an issue. All around, a really nice job by both publisher and developer!.Version: 1.2.1

Needs to fix online games asap! This game is great except for online games. The shortest option for turn times is 7 minutes, no one has the patience to wait around staring at an unmoving screen for 7 minutes while someone goes inactive, and then the game is ruined. There needs to be an option for rapid turns and people who miss their turn being replaced by a bot same as every other similar game. And people should not be able to host games and then leave while people are joining. Games should start immediately when players join, no one should have to wait an extensive amount of time for anyone. Games like this are not made for leave and come back at your leisure turns, please fix this asap..Version: 1.0.12

Needs ImprovementFirst off, the app performs well. It looks great and runs well. The art is updated when compared to old version; it takes less inspiration from the original board game. The addition customization of trains and characters is cute. Two major things I miss from the old version is the Pass-and-Play. In order to play with someone else, you both need the app on your mutual devices. You cannot pass a device back and forth. The other thing it lacks is variety. It only has a single map for Europe, Scandinavian countries, and the North America. The old version had a lot more options. I hope they add features and maps over time..Version: 1.2.2

New updates difficult with dexterity issuesI find the new updates (with being able to zoom in and out & no more double tapping) is very difficult to work for individuals with dexterity issues and limited finger control. It's much more difficult to choose the correct track and reach confirmation buttons when tracks are at the bottom of the map. Please add an alternate way of zooming in that is not solely the pinch motion. The new updates are making the game that I used to love to play, inaccessible. How do I return to the previous version?.Version: 1.1.0

Promising but incompleteThe game is as fun to play in the app as it is on a table. However, it’s missing several features the older/other digital app version had: namely, the ability to play offline (pass and play), and the ability to play without crashing. There is promise, in terms of new expansion packs to come (I pre-ordered these which should have given me access to Europe- I have access on one device but not the other). There are glitches when inviting a friend to play- if you invite them more than once, they’re told the game no longer exists when they click accept. I still love playing, but will enjoy it more when it’s seamless..Version: 1.0.12

Great game, app needs improvementsI love this game, and the app is an easy way to play. However I have frustrations: 1. Not an easy way to close out of the app mid-game. If you have train cards in your deck it’s right where the ship up bar goes so instead of exiting the app, it’s easy to accidentally play those train cards in an errant place. 2. Game DRAINS battery even with effects turned off. Also, it hides the battery indicator so you can’t easily see where battery life is or whether it’s charging 3. Needs more route cards. Only a fraction of the actual board game are in the app 4. It’s very easy to accidentally play trains on an unintended track.Version: 1.2.2

CrashApp keeps crashing mid game… kind of frustrating, and can’t go back to the game!.Version: 1.0.12

Disappointed. Not as good as previous version.I was very upset when the previous version of this game which I had paid for was discontinued. Even still, I went ahead and bought this version. I must admit I am disappointed. There is no ongoing cumulative score, which is very disappointing - I hope that’s coming. You can’t see the timer for the games (even though you decide how many minutes you are going to give each player when you set up the game). The game glitched and froze twice when I was selecting new route cards. It’s a shame, I used to really love playing this game. At the moment, I wish I had saved my money. Hopefully they will continue to improve it..Version: 1.0.18
