ElevenReader: Read Books Aloud Positive Reviews

Good Choice! At first I was sad that such a wonderful and free app got locked behind a paywall. However, my sadness was short-lived as I understand noting is actually free and this company DESERVES compensation for their wonderful serviceS! …and then I saw the subscription prices and my short-lived sadness was replaced with anger. The prices were outrageous and made this app unaffordable for lower-income book lovers who like to read a lot. Then the app was suddenly free again while they reworked the plans and a few weeks later a new, much more affordable, subscription plan came out. I especially appreciate the unlimited monthly tier so you don’t have to worry about minutes and you only have to pay when you are on a book reading binge! Some months I’m in a slump or too busy and don’t read at all. Please keep the prices reasonable, always have an unlimited tier, and keep up the good work! This truly is the best book-to-speech app out there and does miracles for those who love to read but have challenging disabilities that make it difficult. In addition, so many books (especially indie and self-published books) don’t have an audiobook version so this not only helps those with disabilities but also helps indie and self-published authors as well. Thank you for listening to feedback and thank you for this wonderful app! <3.Version: 1.4.32

To Me — A Very Good Reader!I have had the ElevenReader app for a relatively short time, but I’ve used it quite a bit so far. I appreciate that it’s pretty user-friendly. I also like the options that a person can choose. For instance there’s a nice selection of voices to choose from. Even with that you can adjust the speed of the reader, faster or slower, to suit your own listening style. Additionally, I have used it to listen to articles about the Bible. It has been very rare to find a reader that will correctly read where some verses are drawn from. For example if referring to a verse such as Psalm 83:18 most readers I’ve used usually handle that without any issues. But if citing a verse such as 2 Chronicles 6:8, invariably all the others I’ve used will read that as “two Chronicles 6:8” instead of the correct rendering “second Chronicles 6:8.” I really appreciate this. It prevents my brain from doing a slight double-take each and every time the leading number is handled as a cardinal number instead of what it should be, an ordinal number. The correct rendering helps me focus on the information and not on narration mistakes. For me this is much appreciated. Thank you!.Version: 1.11.6

Reader by 11 labsThis app is beyond the best I've used in several years. I know this app was made not so long ago, but this is a game changer. For one thing, it's free. Another thing I like is that there are some really really good hypo voices. I mean just thinking about it not every app you find on the App Store can compare to this bad boy right here. I mean, no bugs, none of that also, there may be some errors when you generate your books, that's just a server side thing. I haven't had any network issues using this app, and I highly recommended you choose this app to read your books, news, stories, anything you want to read, this app is for you. I know some good apps that do Text to Speech reading, but the other apps I used doesn't compare to this one. Several apps I use, their voices are natural but not good enough for AI the iPhone voices can be useful for VoiceOver on your iPhone but not when you read text. It's robotic, and you need something that will knock you off to sleep within an hour or so. all I'm saying is, five star review all the way.Version: 1.3.5

An amazing app if issues get fixedAs others have said, the app is excellent when it works doing exactly what you want it to with a nice interface. You can have any article or file read to you at the speed of your choice in an AI generated voice of your choice. Eleven labs AI readers sounds completely natural and high quality. If you leave off midway through and article you can simply return later and pick up where you left off while reading along if you like. The problem is, it simply fails too often at present. I’ve used the app 7 times and it has not worked 3 of them. The text loads and the AI reader loads for the first 1-2 minutes then halts. Probably the server can’t handle the request, sometimes you get an error message sometimes you don’t but you’ll just have to try again in a few hours because it will not proceed. If this issue gets fixed I would absolutely love the app and use it all the time. As is, I can’t use it because the convenience of having the article read to me as opposed to reading it is outweighed by the inconvenience of the unreliability that it will work. I’ve stopped using for now but will try again in a few months to see if the issue is handled..Version: 1.1.7

A gift to humanity…Over the past few years I’ve tried app after app that would do something similar to this, they all fall short and each come with hefty subscription fees. Just last week, I decided to look up and see if anything new in the space has come out, to my surprise I found this magnificent app and have finished 3 books since. It’s been a lovely tool in order for me to get through my backlog of 150+ books from the PI authors like Mike Hockney, Adam Weishaupt, Michael Faust, Thomas Stark… etc. that don’t have audiobook companions. The voices are top notch and a pleasure to listen to. I love that the words are highlighted and you can follow along as it’s read to you. I hope this remains free for the foreseeable future, or at most a simple one time purchase. Subscription fatigue is becoming overwhelming nowadays. If there was one issue that I had to comment on it would be that the sync feature between devices could use a little work. I often switch from my iPad to my phone and noticed if I don’t shutdown the app on one device first that I won’t pickup from where I left off on the other device. Also, unless I missed it, a search feature in books would be a nice feature to have..Version: 1.2.10

Fantastic AppThis is a high quality TTS platform and app. I am so appreciative of the company for keeping it so accessible, especially considering how pricey the few on-par alternatives are. It has been a lifesaver for reading (listening) to my college textbooks. The fact that they provide free listening hours each month is very helpful and their pricing model is so fair that when I need more, I never hesitate to purchase. That says *a lot*, considering that I’m both poor & frugal to a fault… Additionally, one the one occasion I’ve needed to reach out to support about something, they were super responsive & helpful. Note to devs: If there’s any way you can make it a) not as easy to mistakenly click text (and therefore instantly jump to that point, losing one’s place) such as while scrolling or otherwise navigating during playback, and b) easier to revert to the last place, that would be helpful. Also, I wish the button to jump to current listening point was larger/easier to click..Version: 1.4.70

Best in its categoryLooking for a free, full featured, document to voice reader? This is the one! The amount of different voices and the quality of them is simply staggering. I wanted to be able to turn my epub book files into audiobooks that I can listen to in bed, on the go, or whenever the mood hits me. This app. does that with ease! There are probably a hundred or so voices you can select from and you can change them on the fly. Listen to it reading your document in bed and set an easy timer that will stop reading in a few minutes to an hour, or even when it reaches the end of the current chapter. Found the voice that fits your document perfectly? Then you can output the reading as an audio file that you can share with anybody. I’ve been racking my brain trying to think of additional features that might be added to the app. and haven’t been able to come up with a thing, it is so full featured in its current form. This is a 5 star app., all the way!.Version: 1.2.10

Good, Just Two Things MissingHey I really like this app - I think the voices are really natural and I like the community voices that allow for people to volunteer their own voices to the pool! Two things I'm having trouble with though: One, there's a glitch that seems to happen frequently, where the text screen goes black or completely white while the audio continues to play, and I can't get it to come back up unless I exit the app and open it again. Two, there doesn't seem to be any way that I can edit the pronunciation of names or words. This is especially surprising to me because its one of the features that many other popular AI reader apps have (i.e. NaturalReader, VoiceDream, etc) and so I'm assuming it wouldn't be difficult to add that feature in. This is really needed and sometimes makes it so that I have to forego listening to a book or piece of text in ElevenReader, since the voices will often use ridiculous pronunciations for names or places or what-have-you. Please add this feature in as soon as possible, I'm begging! Thanks!.Version: 1.4.52

Great app that does what it says on the tinI use this app several times a day as a kind of text to audio utility. If I just need to hear an email, quick copy and paste click a button and next thing you know it’s being spoken beautifully in my ear. If I need to hear something, I’m writing to get a sense of it quick copy and paste. No problem. Best of all, I create a lot of synthesized summaries of different research sources, and being able to hear them read aloud has been a game changer in terms of my absorption. The app supports all of my major workflow to get the text into it, and it displays nicely, crucially, letting me read along with Actively spoken at that moment. It has all the standard text to speech configuration, like speed, voice selection, etc. But they also do a nice job letting you save into collections. I do wish I could download the text I put in there, but other than that, it works very well. It’s a great app..Version: 1.4.49

I hope they read thisThis application has a lot of potential. It is one of the only reader apps where the text to speech feature takes center stage and I love that. There are a number of usability problems right now that make it subpar when compared to its competitors, though. To start, The iOS share functionality is not fast enough. I need to quickly store articles when I find them and this application does all loading in the foreground. Additionally, it assumes I want to read the article immediately, which is not how most reader apps work. The premise behind most reader apps is that you share an article to the app and read it later. The next problem this app faces is the lack of continuous play or auto play. This makes it extremely difficult to use the app while driving or exercising. Overall I am satisfied with the app and am cautiously optimistic that the developers will make it easier for users to provide feedback. Developer team-please reach out to me, I would love to provide more feedback but the website has not made it easy to get in contact..Version: 1.2.10

PhenomenalThis app has been life saver and Have helped me finish hundreds of titles from my 7000 book wishlist .I Hope this app still retains a free feature in future as it Allows young readers or people from countries without the option to become a Paid user to retain the services .The only complain I have is that it does not allow users to Download files Which is just a small price to pay for such as God saving service to humanity as there around more than 170 million books (According to some google digital Books Program ) but as Tolkein onece put it I wish life was not so short. Languages take such a time, and so do all the things one wants to know about. J. R. R. Tolkien "The Lost Road and Other Writings". Book by J. R. R. Tolkien. Chapter: "Alboin Errol", 1987. .(This app and website will certainly give more Tolkein and Ramanujan like figures to humankind and Tolkein certainly would’ve appreciate such services to Humanity).Version: 1.4.21

I use this app dailyI drive a lot for work, music and the news aren’t what I’m looking to listen to as I drive from one stop to the next. So I when I wanted to have my collection of e-books read to me I started looking for some way to make that happen. The “free” options I found were so robotic and stale that it made the stories unbearable to listen to. When I found this app I got 2 free hours and was really impressed by the range of voices I could choose from and the fluidity at which they read the book. It’s not perfect, sometimes “no.” Is read as “number” or the app loses connection and I have to refresh. Sometimes the reader seems to mangel a couple of words that make them sound like nothing. But really it’s the only quality reader I found that I could justify purchasing a subscription to each month. Being able to upload files is super easy and convenient!.Version: 1.4.35

Passed a side-by-side testI listened to Burt Reynolds’ actual reading of Robert B. Parker’s Small Vices, the A.I. Burt reading the ebook. In some ways it was hard to tell, but when the man read the book he was more relaxed, and stretched out things like “leaned back in her chair” to be more like “leeeaned back in her chair.” The A.I. Burt still often accented the same words as the man. That sort of thing is to be expected. This is a voice, not a great actor. Now the bad. Clicking on the table of contents does not take you to the chapter you click. Also, there is no text search, so if you want to pick up from where you left off reading in a physical book or e-book, you just have to scroll until you find what you’re looking for. Last, I wanted to screen record the two readings I mentioned above, but while Audible allows audio recording, this app does not. How can I promote this to my family and friends without that? If these things change, I’ll go from four to five stars..Version: 1.4.5

Great app, but voices need refinementI really enjoy using this app, but a lot of the voices have strange quirks that make it kind of weird to listen to. It’s not so bad that I can’t use it. It’s pretty easy to use otherwise, I enjoy it, and it’s a good alternative to having to purchase or otherwise produce audiobooks either for e-books that I own, or material that I’ve typed out or written myself. The bonuses here are clear, being able to have a PDF, EPUB document, or word document read back to you is fantastic. If you’re a writer or author you can use this to have your material read back to you. There’s no need to buy a separate audiobook if you have purchased an EPUB file from somewhere. As a full 11 labs subscriber on their main app, I have access to custom voices I’ve created, but it would be nice to have access to voice customizations from within the 11 reader app. A lot of the voices here are very monotone and don’t have any way to adjust the variability of the voice. Another downside is that the voice seem to insert extra verbalization, noises, and other weird things that don’t quite fit. Occasionally it will actually Verbalize a period at the end of a sentence as the word dot. At other times it will insert weird verbalization, vocal noises, or the occasional laugh where it doesn’t fit. Overall I have thoroughly enjoyed this app will continue using it, and I know that they will continue working on it and improving it..Version: 1.4.41

“Game-Changing Genius: The Ultimate App for Curious Minds”I never write app reviews. Like, ever. But ElevenReader? Oh, this app deserves a standing ovation, a round of applause, and maybe a five-star Michelin review while we’re at it. Here’s the deal: truly amazing apps are like unicorns—rare, magical, and often not free. But ElevenReader? It’s here, it’s free (for now—knock on wood), and it’s nothing short of revolutionary. This is for the wanderers, the seekers, the insatiably curious minds who devour knowledge like it’s candy. If you’ve ever dreamed of turning mountains of content into bite-sized, manageable pieces, consider your wish granted. ElevenReader takes the chaos of podcasts, articles, books, audiobooks—basically any format you throw at it (PDFs, ePubs, MOBIs, even voice memos)—and transforms it into an effortless, seamless intake experience. Uploading? A total breeze. Whether it’s a video from your camera roll, a web link, or a dusty old PDF lurking in your iCloud, ElevenReader handles it with a single click. But the real chef’s kiss moment? The AI-powered podcast feature. This wizardry takes your content and distills it into the most concise, digestible snippets—perfect for anyone with a packed schedule or a short attention span. It’s not just an app; it’s a game-changer. A mind-reader. A miracle worker for the chronically curious. If you’re ready to say goodbye to overwhelm and hello to clarity, ElevenReader is the hero you’ve been waiting for..Version: 1.3.2

Best Reader, only one “complaint”This is by far the best pdf/article to text reader I’ve used. Including over speechify. It has very nice flow, I only wish it would not censor some words that have no issue in context. Example: “naked scarped cliffs” in Candide by Voltaire — censoring naked. And sometimes it cuts off before the end of a paragraph and makes unnatural pauses which can be a little jarring. A feature? Recommendation: allowing the user to specify things to skip over when reading. I read a lot of physics and chemistry books, and sometimes under figures they have an equation like v -> u+e++ or something to that effect. If I could specify the things to ignore and have it apply to the rest of the book that would be immaculate. In any case, my one “complaint” is that there aren’t more professional voices. I have been listening to everything in Sir Olivers voice, I love the transatlantic accent and the old fuzzy microphone. More voices that are as clear and sharp as the celebrity/radio icons and I’d be willing to pay for them if I’m being honest, so long as the quality is maintained. Great work! I will happily subscribe if it sticks to this kind of ease of use and quality. The blog reader is astounding too, I thought it was going to be a mess for sure. If you’re on the fence, just try this app!.Version: 1.2.1

An App With Fantastic PotentialThis app has been amazing at turning my digital books into audiobooks that are actually listenable. However, I have had some issues…while it dictates, the app will display the text much like a teleprompter but often the text will disappear and won’t return unless you restart the app, pause the dictation and exit book, and/or attempt to scroll the blank screen—and occasionally this will result in the entire app whiting out forcing you to restart. One other complaint is not being able to tweak the pronunciations for the “~” symbol. The book I’m listening to employs this symbol a lot to draw out spoken dialogue but rather than doing this (or even ignoring it), it will say “tilda”. For example, if a character says “Are you talkin’ to me~e?”, rather than saying dictating “me—e” it reads out “… mē(tilda)êh?” It can get really annoying really quick so having the ability to tweak this would be great. Otherwise the app is awesome!.Version: 1.4.13

Years of waiting!I travel a lot and listen to a lot of podcast and audiobooks on my travels. There’s always been some books I remember reading back in junior high or high school that I really liked, but there is no audiobook for it and I’ve always been patient and even requesting it even considered paying somebody to read the book and record themselves. But never got to it, but with this you can import your book and have many different voices either fast or slower speeds or even create your own voice that fits the book. Another huge plus was the ambient sound. You can choose from plenty. If you’re reading a mystery or even a suspenseful book, you can put a background sound that fits the ambience, making the story even more immersive..Version: 1.11.16

Nice, but HAUNTED?!I wish I was over-exaggerating. The voices sound real which is a plus. But as I continue on my document, there’s times in the audio where the woman’s voice makes weird noises such as screams at the end of a paragraph. I brushed that off but then I ran into a long stretch of audio where there was loud churning (industrial? Mechanical? EERIE!) noises in the background of the audio. All the while, the usually calm and conversational tone of the woman’s voice became rushed, light and breathless, like if you made someone read something when they were scared and tried to hurry along with the dialogue. Her voice even turned into a man’s voice for a sentence. It’s literally the stuff you see in horror movies. Other than that, there is more buffering the further you get along. But the haunted voice creeps me out and is probably the main problem. It’s not even October yet 💀🙃. Other than that, the app is nice..Version: 1.1.18

Cautiously hopeful for improvementI’m updating this review as the developers have walked back their previous monetization plan and have been responsive to community feedback. I understand such a program needs some form of monetization to be viable and I’m hoping they commit to following through with setting up a fair rate for both price and usage while addressing some remaining functional issues with the app. The core service remains very solid, and I hope to be able to further increase my rating as improvements to both aspects are made. Previous Review: The sudden monetization was poorly communicated, doesn’t follow with how they outlined their plans for implementing it (a “generous free plan” is one hour a week?), and is expensive for a capped monthly service. On top of that, the app has become extremely unreliable and prone to breaking. I have no confidence in being able to receive any service I’d pay for..Version: 1.4.25

Almost perfect!I love this app so much. I am so glad I found it and I’m using it for hours every day using the upgraded version. The only thing I would love to see fixed is that when you want to pause the reading, you have to touch the screen to bring up the controls. And by doing that you often jump ahead to the text you haven’t read yet. Unless you can find a white space on the side that isn’t going to select a word. I also love the AI functionality to help explain something that you didn’t understand about the book. My suggestion to the developers would be swap out the AI icon with a pause icon, and then the AI icon could be within the rest of the controls. As a former software developer, I really applaud your work on this app..Version: 1.9.3

Brilliant App, Two Core Features MissingI’ve been using this app extensively. The range of voices are amazing and while I love audiobooks on their own, being able to follow the text in real time has helped me digest some harder reads by both seeing and hearing in tandem. Can’t recommend this app enough, and I only have two suggestions that would make this a 5 star. 1. Sleep timer! 2. Manual bookmarks. I know the app in theory saves where you left off, and that’s reflected and updated in the percentage complete in the list of files - however (maybe it’s due to weird formatted epubs? either way) a way to just manually set a bookmark for peace of mind would be great Apple Books and their infinite iCloud syncing wisdom offers this, and I use it extensively for the same reason. When the auto-spot-save works, it’s great. But when it fails once and you have to figure out where you were, you never trust it again. I’ve had a few epubs in Eleven Reader completely start from the top after being nearly 50% through a book. Don’t even mind if that happens, but if I could jump right back to where I manually left a bookmark, that would be soooo clutch. Anyway, keep up the amazing work..Version: 1.1.12

Crossing cultural boundariesThis is the first time I have ever written a review for an app. And it is worth more than five stars. When I first started the journey of writing “The Aurelda Chronicles” last year, a sacred remembering, it had always been my intention to share it locally with the people here in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, where I live–en español. Their rich culture, history, and “corazón grandes” were the heart and would of inspiration. When I discovered the ElevenReader app, I found a solution that crossed a great divide. My Spanish is not as fluent as I like, and because the readers can begin listening for free, barriers and boundaries have been eliminated (language and cultural). The ability to share my books in an engaging AI powered audiobook format not only makes it easy for me to cross the bridge and share with my friends who only speak Spanish, but it makes listening and enjoying to these stories in a way that even I couldn’t have imaginde. Not only that, but as a first time author, their support team have made the process so easy. Real humans offering their time, support, and encouragement refreshing!! Muchísimas gracias y Aho, Jason, Mo’an y todo la familia Aurelda.Version: 1.4.26

An overall great app with quality voices but…I absolutely love this app. There are no hidden fees, no ads, and no microtransactions, which is a refreshing change. The voices are also high-quality, as you’d expect from 11 Labs. However, a few minor issues prevent me from giving it a full five-star rating. One issue I’ve encountered is that when I try to quickly switch from one document to another while it’s reading, the app sometimes reverts back to the previous document mid-reading, which can be frustrating. Another problem is that the app tends to crash frequently. Recently, I’ve noticed it crashing even more often, though I’m unsure if it’s due to the number of documents I have or because of the version of iOS 18 I’m currently running. Despite these problems, which I believe can be fixed, the app has a lot of potential. I would love to see future updates that allow for sharing and saving readings, as well as a more straightforward way to clear the history. I haven’t figured out how to do that yet. Overall, this app is great, and I genuinely enjoy using it when it works properly. I hope the developers can address these minor issues soon, and once they do, I will happily update my review to five stars..Version: 1.1.19

Best reading app I’ve ever downloaded. Period.I’ve tried so many AI reading apps, and this is the only one that didn’t cut me off after five minutes or throw a paywall in my face. The voice sounds real, smooth, and super easy to listen to for long stretches not robotic or choppy like the others. It let me upload my own books, start reading instantly, and actually enjoy my time without stress. No ads, no chaos, no “upgrade now” pop-ups. It just works and it helped me finally get back into reading after struggling for a while. I genuinely can’t believe it’s free. I’d give this 10 stars if I could. Thank you to whoever made this please never change it. 💛.Version: 1.4.29

If Only They Would Fix…This is an app who’s AI voices are so magnificent I want them to be embodied people so I can actually pay them to read to me, buy them groceries, whatever. However, the more you attempt to speed up the reading on an iOS device, the worse they sound. It just doesn’t have to be that way. Other apps allow you to speed voices up to as high as 3X without any artifacts, echoes, growling sounds, or anything else. Whatever they’re using to allow you to speed the voice up sounds like something from the late 1990s. Otherwise, I love the app. It just does what needs to be done. And it does it with such charm with these ever-so-human voices that I can’t help but keep coming back. I really, desperately need to have the ability to listen to those voices at higher speeds more clearly..Version: 1.9.3

I really like this app, but…Hey, I just wanted to come on here and say, I get it, software like this is expensive to upkeep and you guys need money, but making the app completely free at first and then switching to a premium sub system without much of a notice was absolutely devastating for me. I had gotten so used to just listening everyday and suddenly running out of hours within the first week of use was really jarring. I’d love to see more communication on the app between the developers and consumers because this genuinely is one of the best apps out there for pdf to speech processing that I’ve found, and I know a lot of people that have the money to support this would and will with proper transparency. I would even be chill if the free tier had ads and I just had to watch some ads to get more reading time, stuff like that, because I know ad revenue can be helpful along with the premium subscription. But yeah, wonderful app, very well made but please, be more transparent with the direction you’re taking the app, I find more people will be willing to support if you’re upfront about what the money is going to and advance notice. The bait and switch was really startling and caught me off guard.Version: 1.4.32

Keeping up with Security NewsHave been looking for a way to easily consume reports and news around security and ElevenReader is my solution. Just find the articles I need to run through, or reports geared towards the solutions in my environment, or maybe a topic I have been trying to just get more familiar with, and share it with the app. From there I can continue my day to day tasks/chores and listen like I would for a podcast. Suddenly I am more current on the happenings relevant to my company and still getting all of my daily home needs completed. 5 star all around for anyone just trying to make the most out of their time really..Version: 1.4.70

Skips After Pausing and Doesn’t Pause when during NotificationsI really love the app especially Jessica’s voice. But recently every time I hit pause, get a notification the app skips forward like a minute (more or less). I have to manually search where I was and that’s hard to do if I can’t get to my phone all the time. Also, can the app please pause automatically and start to play once a notification comes through? It also needs to pause when the gps is giving directions and replay when it’s done. I tried to contact CS about the skipping issue but the CS chat was AI who told me to call in to create a ticket or something. I’m not going to call anyone thus this review hopefully y’all will notice and help cause then it’ll be a 5 star app imo..Version: 1.11.16

Love it, but need more sharing options!I wish I could screen record or at least have a share button for the content I create. It seems counterintuitive to have to stop using the app and use the API in order to share something. This app is awesome. You can upload a story , an article, anything you want to hear read to you with a professional narrator’s voice, and then listen, even have one on one conversations with a chatbot about the story. There’s also a podcast feature that creates a whole podcast talking about the work. I just wish I could screen record or record the audio at least. 💯.Version: 1.4.75

Scan books feature not greatI love it when it works. When I scan physical books the text is very glitchy. Not sure if I’m doing something wrong but I’ve been trying for weeks to get clear scans. There are always words that get garbled. It’s fine for a free app but I won’t spend money on and app that doesn’t work for the feature I use the most. Other than that I enjoy the choice of voices and the natural sound. I will look forward to a day when this is improved. I have 100s of books and don’t have the patience to sit and read. I love to listen while doing other things, taking a walk etc. If the developers have any tips to get good scans please share. Thanks!.Version: 1.6.7

Best text to speech epub reader in spring 2025Used to use speech central with openai and google ai voices. Speech central is extremely buggy and even these advanced voices - that require being a software engineer to setup and cost extra - are low quality compared to the free voices from eleven labs. Natural reader is a terrible experience because it converts epubs to pdf first (nonsensical to force reading a pdf on an iPhone which is the whole point of epubs). Other than that there are a few good epub reader apps but they use apple voices which are extremely low quality at best. Voice dream reader voices are not better than apple. So, I don’t see any other options at this time..Version: 1.4.13

I can finally “share” text directly to the app!!!!!ElevenLabs has the best voices. Everyone knows that. But the cost for 11Labs is just too high for people who want to use it for TTS occasionally or other random stuff which is a bummer (it’s designed for people producing videos or audiobooks). I had it configured to be the voice of my smart home for one glorious day, but after my free credits ran out, it would have have been like $50/mo to keep it running. Not happening obvs. But now that they’ve released ElevenReader, it’s definitely closer to a good value for regular people! I got the super duper early bird special, something around $200 for one year. That’s worthwhile to me, won’t be to everyone. Unfortunately I can’t use it as the voice of my smart home or any API usage. Big bummer. And it doesn’t have nearly the voice selection, particularly it’s lacking any deep voiced older British men (my home butler was a jaunty mid 60s British pirate intellectual). So ya it’s definitely not a substitute for 11Labs. It’s also way cheaper so I get it. And initially it was just super annoying to use. You had to take your text, copy it, paste it into the app, click a button that saved it to a file in their app, then navigate to the file, load it, then hit play. Bordering on unusable imo. No Apple Shortcut integration, which is really what I’m hoping to see. But now, at long last, I can do “select all” on the app, then go to “share”, then choose eleven labs, then click “listen”!!! That’s like 4 taps, down from about 40 (it felt like). I’m over the moon. Now I feel like I’ll actually use the app! If they let me use it with home assistant somehow, I might even keep paying for it once my year is up! Of course I’m hoping that by then Apple gets its skite together and updates its built in TTS functionality beyond the 1980s-level speech they have now. It’s so so terrible it’s almost funny. Almost..Version: 1.4.64

Nice app, but volume fluctuating isssues and internet requirement annoyingMay 9th update: another update… okay it no longer stops frequently but did they change the word highlight feature??? Now the text that had already read is colored while unread text is a light very. It’s so hard to follow along now so I hope this isn’t a permanent change. Go back to traditional highlighting please!!! May first week: this update is really awful. I have to refresh the app multiple times just to get it working again. 4 stars only because the volume keeps changing randomly as it switches between voices by itself so I need to turn it louder and then quickly turn it back down as it changes by itself. (Male voice, female voice, Irish accent, it’s all over the place). It does that trying to account for other characters talking directly which which is cool but the can’t hear then my ears are bleeding combo is super annoying. Also download but for some reason, can’t play, even when going from library, when not online.. so what’s the point of downloading?.Version: 1.11.15

Good but a problem as at the current business model it will be bankrupt.I think it would be better to keep an free version and make it optional for premium version as it would attract more wider audiences resulting from the phenomenonal quality of the product and at the same time considering how uniquell well made the whole system it it would attract people to get premium for more features .The current model of only 2 hours every week is just an unsustainable as it will be not attract new customers rather it would result in an economic backlash and bankruptcy as the prices for credits are way too expensive . It’s sad to see such a great app sink into oblivion. Hello engineers I'd like to request a feature. Sent from my iPhone The free plan should have more listening hours than just couple every week which will increase reach among most audiences who can not pay for subscriptions and there should be extra perks to separate them from the regular free listeners . The current limitations of hours at free version will not really particularly help you guys gain new customers . It is much more beneficial to focus on expanding the business at the moment via having a free version that is usable vai including more free hours and having premium version separately . The way thing are going the company will face bankruptcy if it doesn’t continue growing via expansion within the populist market by expanding into the regular audiences and there’s an huge audience for audiobooks as the success of Amazon’s Audioble shows . There should be an monthly and yearly paid version instead of having more credit which doesn’t even allow one to even finish a book in whole months worth of credit in a whole month subscription.a lot of money paid at once for the yearly seems a lot but when it’s monthly the human brain plays a trick whereas it is much more bearable even if the yearly costs are larger so basically not being able to finish a book in whole months worth of credit will just discipline users to hate the brand if the free versions do not having a whole lot more listening hours. At the current rate the company will go under water so as someone who enjoys audiobooks it’s said to see such an great product going down the drain as result of lack of restructuring (English is my 4th language so pls forgive my messy use of grammar, punctuations and other mistakes ).Version: 1.4.38

If you are looking for an app that reads aloud, this one is the best. This app has helped me so much! My favorite voice is Jessica, and she has read so many things to me! I do World Scholar’s Cup, and you have to read and study A LOT to do well in the competition. Part of the curriculum was kind of boring (but interesting don’t get me wrong), so I got this app to read a little bit to me. After 2-3 hours, the app tells you that you have to purchase more hours. I got 15 hours ($10) and am still going strong! Thx for reading this and for anyone competing in WSC, this app is amazing for studying (especially pocketpwaa)!.Version: 1.4.36

Huge accessibility winAs a legally blind user this is a dream come true. Elevenlabs has by far the most natural sounding computer voices and to be able to paste in any text and have it read by my favorite voices is beyond compare. I interpret the phrase “any length of text” and “import epubs” as “be able to read books you couldn’t before.” I’m still half in disbelief that this is some sort of bug and my usage limit will update in a few more hours but right now it seems like elevenlabs are going in on the side of valuing accessibility and I am in the target audience for that so I really really appreciate it ❤️.Version: 1.1.7

So excitedI’m so happy I found this app, it was sponsored on facebook. I’ve been looking for months and months for a not expensive app to use for school to read my textbooks or files my professors want us to read over. I can upload files or scan my textbook from my phone! This is a gam changer for me! This will making boring content more interesting and I can understand it better! Another great part is I logged in with my student account and got a year free!! So so happy and blessed I found this! Thank you thank you for making this app. Don’t change anything about it!.Version: 1.4.74

A lot of pricing options, models are expensiveThe app is great, they still give a lot of options. You get 10 hrs free each month. You can pay as you go for hours or do the monthly/yearly subscription. Students and Educators can get a year free. For how much models cost they are very flexible with giving people options. Lot’s of services I won’t pay for because cost doesn’t justify the utility for the app/service. This is one I will pay for. If it isn’t for you don’t leave a bad review just because they aren’t giving you more than 10 hrs a month for free..Version: 1.4.70

Terrific app, highly useful. This application has been highly useful to me, it can read various documents, pages, and PDFs. I would not value the other reviews for this application, it was rather buggy in the beginning but they have significantly improved it. A big thanks to 11 labs. Please continue to do what you do and keep this app free for all. If there's anywhere for us to donate please let us know..Version: 1.1.22

Great read and AI Voice! The one, the professional or another. I have to say the one I hearing the reading of my fanfiction book. I would say higher recommend of this app. Five out of five. I had two words for haters, SUCK IT!.Version: 1.11.15

It’s great I love itIt was very good as voices.Version: 1.11.16

Great app and hoursWith it had analytics.Version: 1.9.0

Thankful for the new pricing structureI’ll be honest that it’s been a rough ride with this company. The pricing was so absurd, going from free to very expensive. The cheapest plan had very low limitations and the next level up plan was unbelievably expensive. Plus in order to use a custom voice in the reader app you needed another subscription to the regular voice app (which is still true). I’m happy they shifted their pricing to something that is a little more fair and reasonable l, but I’d still like to be able to use a few custom voices without needing a second subscription, especially on their higher tier plan..Version: 1.11.2

Limited editing and correctingWorks great, except when it doesn’t ? We need a way to edit and correct errors created by the app in uploaded files. Happens too often , with no way to quickly fix ourselves. Support also seems unable to fix them. Seemingly no way to make prononciation suggestions in languages other than English. And the ones suggested in English do not work either, the prononciation stays the same..Version: 1.9.3

Book readingI like the app I just find it annoying that you can’t get the book itself for free and you need to take a picture of each individual page.Version: 1.9.0

New way to consume textLove it for epubs - no other audiobook app can show you your spot in the text easily so you can quickly resume with the text elsewhere and vice versa. This also makes it really easy to listen to articles on the road. 10 free hours per month is awesome..Version: 1.6.7

Excellent voicesThe voices are excellent. My only complaint is the interface is a little clunky..Version: 1.8.0

Simple but EffectiveI enjoy this app because it doesn’t constantly hit you with unnecessary payment offers. It has a solid selection of voices to choose from and a decent audiobook library. The app itself is simple but still offers some variety. The only real drawback is that if you’re reading a physical book, you have to take photos of each individual page for the app to read it out loud, which can be time consuming. All in all, this app is a great tool to use.Version: 1.4.74

Good until it’s notThe app worked great and I used it all the time for my audio books, but it had a lot of issues loading the text when I would put down my phone and reopen it. It would show a white screen and not the text. That wasn’t a big deal cause I could reload it without having to pause the player but now there’s a new issue. My audio book keeps pausing. Every 10-60 seconds is pauses to load the next segment rather than load it in advance. I’m gonna try to reupload the file but if it doesn’t work I’m ending my subscription and changing to a different app. Update: I ended up re-uploading the file and the new one didn’t have the same problem. It still occasionally does the white screen but the interruptions stopped and that all I really cared about..Version: 1.4.74

My Favourite AppThis is the app I think of when I think “actually productive use of AI.” ElevenLabs/Reader has made TTS that sounds absolutely natural (especially with certain voices) and miles ahead of other consumer apps for that purpose. The app was free for a long time but I was always happy to pay for it: I use it all the time. (Just want to mention to people complaining about the paid tiers: do you have any idea how expensive this is to run?) Anyways. Great tech for anyone who reads heavily and alternates between reading and listening, as well as being priceless assistive technology for accessibility..Version: 1.4.68

Not workingI love the web version but the app has a bug. The voices don’t work on the audio books..Version: 1.4.70

Almost perfectDos not Read as I Wish but still better than Reading myself ….Version: 1.4.70

Unable to Play Longer BooksAll epubs or Pdfs that are longer (20hrs+) reads have trouble loading for me & they don’t play at all unfortunately..Version: 1.4.70

Excellent appI use this to listen to Deep Research reports I run on ChatGPT because it’s more stable than the platform’s own options. Plus you can choose various voices. I really like it. I just wish there was more options in terms of the voices..Version: 1.4.68

Great App - CarPlay Support? This is an excellent app. Please make it work in CarPlay so I can listen to books in the car..Version: 1.4.68

IdkHelped me with my littérature exam thanks.Version: 1.4.65

Great appI have been reading bible with this. It’s so amazing to hear the bible with background music and amazing speech to text..Version: 1.4.65

Gorgeous voices of all kinds. The on-text navigation of this app and easy-to-use quality are bar none. The rendition is crisp, expressive and natural. I personally love vibrant youthful and teen sounding voices. This app offers a vast selection of those. I tried every last text-to-speech’s: this one is my favorite. Also: it doesn’t skip parts here and there like some others do..Version: 1.4.64

Love itIt’s is a great app and I love it the only complaint I have is that it’s 15 dollars for unlimited listening unless you’re fine with 10 hours a month. If you change it to like 10 hours a week or even 5 hours it would be amazing.Version: 1.4.64

A pittance of free useOnly 10h barely enough to do one ebook. Instapaper reads unlimited articles & webpages for free, save this apps minimal free use for short ebooks only. Combined with Instapapers actually good free model, this app can be sorta useful.Version: 1.4.52

Amazing appAmazing app but I am really confused as an author, after writing some stuff, I exited the page, but now I can’t edit it again how do I go back to edit it again?.Version: 1.4.60

Super helpful!I much prefer to read books but this makes it super easy to still get some “reading” when I’m out on walks with my kid.Version: 1.4.26

All good things come to an end (eventually)Purpose: 5/5 Usability: 5/5 Functions: 4/5 Discounted Price for value compared to other similar apps: 4/5 (I find it’s the cheapest ATM but would be 3/5 with its normal pricing) I’ve been wondering when this app would put a price on itself and it finally has after a year that I’ve been using it. I don’t mind paying as something this good and useful can’t be expected to be free forever (app developers gotta eat too), but compared to other TTS apps there are some cons in its pros. The Good: ✅ Two free hours (with natural voices) that reset weekly on its free plan (this is pretty good in comparison to listening to just 5 min free of a premium voice somewhere else or free unlimited robotic voices 🪦 ) ✅ Unlimited listening to a decent selection of books and classics already available in the app’s library on all plans. ✅ Natural, intuitive sounding voices on all plans (it’s not always perfect as it’s still AI, but still pretty impressive and consistent and NOT monotone) ✅ Many languages available to speak from (some voices can even read multiple languages fairly well without you having to manually look for a specific speaker in that language) ✅ AI generated summary of docs (good for learning or studying or getting the gist of an article) ✅ Pasting links are easy, typing, and importing files are easy too (no limit that I’m aware of on the paid plans) ✅ Bookmarking functions ✅ Reading speed available ✅ MP3 download for offline reading (on paid plans but listening is restricted on the app for obvious copyright/sharing abuse reasons) ✅ One-time/non-subscription pay option for more listening hours beyond the free 2 hours. The extra unused hours, not including the free ones, roll-over within a 12 month period (but will expire after the anniversary of the paid date). This option does not include premium features like offline listening ✅ Referring/inviting gives you 5 hours of listening each to yourself and the referred person Needs some work: ❌ On the free plan, you need to keep the app open in order to keep listening, so no multitasking on your phone ❌ Can’t mass delete files. Each file has to be accessed individually and deleted. This is fairly time consuming if you haven’t deleted files as soon as you’re done listening to them. ❌ There are irregular pauses at the page ends when listening from PDFs ❌ No function to skip headers or footers or urls ❌ Can’t transition between device to device like other TTS apps. There is no web version of Eleven Reader. It seems to be exclusively an app for now on mobile devices ❌ No function to correct the way a word is meant to be pronounced ❌ Paid plans only offer 10 or less downloads with a max of 8 hours long each vs other apps that offer ie. 50 hours total worth of downloads. (May work for those who need 80 hours of listening if their files are worth 8 hours each) *Note* Eleven Reader and Eleven Labs are SEPARATE apps so don’t confuse the two if you want to purchase the subscription! Eleven Labs is web-based, unlike Eleven Reader, but it’s more for content creation and audiobook creating than listening to books. If you want to listen to books on the go and have no interest in creating anything, Eleven Reader is for you. Overall: Pretty good but I’d personally wait for the app to get better in features I’d like before purchasing a subscription. Otherwise, 2 hours free and the pay per use is good enough for me for now..Version: 1.4.32

ChargesI absolutely adored this app because I could listen to my audiobooks while at work but now they are charging for hours. I don’t have a credit card and can’t make payments online plus cannot afford their charges. It was great before I started having to pay.Version: 1.4.30

Great Application overallI have been using it for two months and it surprising the quality that is provided from a free app. Uploading pdf or epub files is easy and quick for me. Also the selection of voices have good variety, I enjoy Dr Maya Angelou. The features are also simple but effective like chapter, bookmark and sleep timer. One slugjt bug if ok d though is that sometimes the voice reading will go quiet and then jump back to normal volume. Another issue I found with certain files is that it will mess up the order of the chapters. Another then those two the app is seemless and the selection of free books is also nice. Thank you.Version: 1.4.24

IncroyableEn tant qu’étudiant cette application me sauve la vie et m’aide grandement à étudier plus rapidement et en restant attentif plutôt que de lire mes fichiers pdf par moi même! Merci beaucoup.Version: 1.4.15

PlaylistsI love this site a lot and find it useful but I wish that I could share and use other peoples playlists.Version: 1.4.23
