Game of the year but needs big fixingI love this game I’ve been waiting for it to come out on mobile and I’ve logged over 600 hours on steam not to mention the time I’ve played on PS5, but there are some bugs that are really frustrating, 1. I play on multiple devices (2 iPads and my phone) they’re all linked to the same Game Center account but one of my iPads didn’t track any of my progress on the other devices. 2. There’s a bug where I’ll beat a stake on a deck and it won’t track my progress at all. For example I just beat white stake on black deck which should’ve unlocked checkered deck, but when I went to play a new game right after, checkered deck was still locked and red stake on black deck wasn’t unlocked either. I also reached a new high score on that run and it didn’t track that either. That’s just one example but it’s happened many times on all my devices. If they fixed the progress issues between devices I think this would be the perfect game..GARR1SAUROUSVersion: 1.4.6

Bug with game not registering progressSUPER fun game! I’ve been absolutely sucked into it but it’s started not logging some of my progress. I beat a run twice with the magic deck and it still registered that I hadn’t yet. Sometimes a Joker or a Blind will not get added to the collection even though I bought the Joker or beat the Blind. It’s frustrating. I’ve seen people online suggest to uninstall and reinstall the app so I did that, lost all my progress, played the game up to the same point and it started not saving again at the magic deck. Some people recommended switching off allowing Balatro to use cellular data in settings, but that also has not fixed it. I just beat magic deck on base difficulty (again) on my 2nd playthrough and was excited because it was the first time I got up to Ante 12, but it showed me that I unlocked the associated voucher card then it was still locked in my collection and still showing I hadn’t beat magic deck. Imagine really enjoying a game and wanting to play it but the only reason not to is it just won’t save. Incredibly frustrating. Christmas has come early!The sneaky game of the year (imho) that’s insanely addictive, is finally here for Apple! Thank you to the developer, you deserve all the money you WILL earn from this game. For those that have not played Balatro yet…now is your opportunity. I describe it as solitaire poker with benefits and pitfalls. It has a small basic learning curve but loads of strategy to learn. It is supremely addictive once you start playing. The thrill of choosing the best build for a run, or getting the joker/card you have been waiting for, or finishing a run and then challenging your build in endless mode. To the absolute disgust of not getting the card/joker/tarot/planet you need, or crashing out in Ante 8. No run is the same!!! This is the perfect game to play while killing time. If you like card games, poker, or solitaire I would think you would love this game. If you are having strategic issues there is much to be learned watching some you tube players. Incredible game, but palm rejection needs serious workBalatro is an incredibly well-made game—it’s fun, addictive, and has that “just one more round” factor that keeps you coming back. The graphics and sound effects are cute, the gameplay mechanics are smooth, and the progression system feels rewarding without being overly grindy. If there’s a grind it’s worth it just because of how fun it is. It’s honestly one of the best mobile games I’ve played in a while if not ever. However, there’s one major flaw that dampens the experience: the lack of proper palm rejection. I don’t know if it’s because I’m fat-fingering the screen or what, but if any part of your hand besides your pointer finger touches the screen, it becomes completely unresponsive. It’s frustrating when the game just won’t register because your palm barely brushed the edge of the screen. Fixing this would make the game perfect. That said, the issue isn’t enough to stop me from playing, but it does detract from the overall experience. Mobile Balatro = Goodbye LifeWhat is there to say? It’s Balatro, but now it’s always with me on my phone. Might as well quit my job now and just get it over with. In all seriousness, it’s an amazing game, and it’s just as good on iOS as it is on other platforms. The revised touch interface is easy to use and intuitive. My moonshot hope was that they would’ve figured out portrait-orientation and let us swap between them at will, but I’m not going pick nits here when I have BALATRO ON MY FREAKING PHONE! For the devs, one potential minor bug… when I had my phone plugged into CarPlay (I was parked while playing I swear), I got a text, and clearing the notification froze the game. This happened twice, so I was able to repeat it. It didn’t happen when I did the same while not plugged into CarPlay. A new standard for roguelikesFor context, I bought this game on PC about 4 months ago and genuinely it has become one of my favorite games ever. Such a simple gameplay loop and a presentation on par with the most advanced inbuilt solitaire games but man, this game just does not get old. Incredibly well designed and engaging, with just enough randomness for it to not get stale. I’ve only played a handful of games so far in the mobile port, but this is clearly a fully fledged version of the game that seems to work well on mobile. Only real gripes I have is the readability isn’t the best, I find its likely not a big issue because I already know what these do but it may be an issue for a first timer and especially for the Arcade version this may have quite a lot of hoops but I would love Steam crosssaves. 10/10 with a few bugsI’ve been playing this game for a bit, and I have been enjoying it, but I have encountered a few bugs recently. I had beaten a black stake with the checkered deck, and unlocked the next deck, but when I went to play the checkered deck on blue stake, it wouldn’t show up and wouldn’t let me, yet I still have the next deck unlocked. (I also have the achievement for beating a deck on black stake). I also had the same issue playing on white stake on the double tag deck, I won but it won’t let me move to the next stake. It also said I unlocked a voucher for buying 10 vouchers in one run, but when I went to look at it in the collection, it says it’s still locked.i also experienced the same thing with a legendary joker, it says I never got it. An Amazing & High Quality GameI got into Balatro a few months ago one of my favorite Youtubers played it, and I’m SO glad that I tried it out for myself. It’s quickly become one of my favorite games and I regularly spend countless hours playing it because it’s so addictive. However, a good game doesn’t come without a few flaws, and Balatro is no exception. The main issue I have is that it’s extremely difficult to win, even on the easiest difficulty, and it’s preventing me from unlocking more content. I mean, I’ve done hours of research at this point on the best strategies, hand types and jokers but I still struggle with winning. I also wish some of the mods that the Balatro community has made were integrated into the base game for us IOS users, since we don’t have the ability to mod anything. But I also know that copyright is probably an issue in that case, and it might be difficult to integrate mods into the base game, so I’m not too upset about it. Overall though, Balatro is a wonderful game that completely lives up to all the hype it’s been getting, and I don’t hold any of my personal issues against the game or the developers, so I still feel like giving it 5 stars is only right since the pros heavily outweigh the cons. A Clever Poker Strategy VariationThis is basically classic Draw Poker but with Jokers and other special cards added where you try to make as high scoring hands as possible, it takes a couple games to learn but isn't too difficult once you understand how to play. A couple things I don't like-it can get too difficult too fast (it's completely random from game to game) and it devalues the best possible poker hand as Royal Flish is lumped in with Straight Flush (technically that's accurate but Royal Flish is the best Straight Flush), also figuring out how to use Tarot cards when inmediately used to enjance regular cards is too difficult at first. I also greatly appreciate there being an Apple TV version although sometimes it doesn't sync in-progress games between TV and my iPhone. Overall it's a unique addition to the card genre and for card/poker fans it's definitely worth trying. It can get quickly addicting though!.DCRageVersion: 1.4.3

Very Creative Spin on Poker!What a wonderful spin on poker! I applaud the creativity of the developer. Definitely worth the time. With that said, there are a few issues with the game that new users will encounter: 1) Steep learning curve. It will take several loses to understand how the game works. I’d say after an hour or so, you will understand the concept. 2) The graphics are too blocky/chunky. On an iPhone 12 Pro Max, I experienced great difficulty trying to tell the difference between a club/spade and heart/diamond. This difficulty has caused me to lose many hands. SUGGESTIONS (for the developer): 1) Define “Run” - To unlock challenges, players must complete a “run”. I must of missed it, but I had to search the internet to define what Balatro defines as a “run”. I couldn’t find anything. Eventually, I made it past “Ante 8” to realize this was considered a “run”. I wish there was a better explanation of this. 2) Clubs/Spades and Hearts/Diamonds - I love the options to customize player decks (especially Dave the Diver!), but none offer a color/scheme with larger suit symbols. Since the graphics are lo-fi/retro, this would greatly improve the mobile user experience. I would like to see a deck with larger symbols or distinct four colors for each suit. BEST GAME EVER!I found this game in the App Store by accident a few weeks ago, I don’t even remember what I was originally looking for & I have played EVERY👏SINGLE👏DAY👏 since! And now when I’m not playing Balatro, all I’m thinking of is when I can play Balatro again. There’s so many possibilities that it’s a different game every time, but fun fact, if you want to try & play the same game again if you had a successful run or even a bad run that you want to try over & make better choices, you can copy the seed & paste it into your next run which will give you the same cards & power-ups. Best game everI bought Balatro on Steam some months ago. I got it with another game that the developer made and figured that I’d give it a shot at some point in the future. I got Apple Arcade for the Sudoku game that I play every single day and saw that Balatro was on here. I downloaded it and started playing it on my phone… yeah, my life is changed for good. I thought the game was cool and it winning some awards this past year made sense but I completely see the vision now, times 10. Wow, this game is so fun. I got it installed on my PC and started running it earlier today after it was unfortunately collecting dust in my library (Marvel Rivals took over for a good while)… went on a crazy 24-round run for the books. Amazing game, but…This game is fantastic and deserves all the awards and accolades it’s received. I don’t feel the need to harp on those further, beyond acknowledging it and giving the game 5 stars. Rather, I want to point out that the game desperately needs a restart option in the menu screen. On PC you can apparently use the R-key to restart, but that’s not possible on mobile. As a result, performing certain challenges and unlocks can become frustrating not because of actual gameplay, but because of the amount of navigation needed to restart. It’s not enough to make the game unplayable, but it is extremely frustrating the amount of time and number of clicks necessary if you need to frequently restart. Definitely the best game ive played on mobileIf you havent played this game yet ITS WORTH PLAYING and its much more fun not knowing how the game works when you first play it and learning the crazy high score builds later on This game is incredible, it doesnt really get old either like as you understand and learn all the different mechanics you get crazier ideas of how to get a really good high score It is incredibly fun to learn at the beginning and its fun to try and get the highest score possible after youve learned the game some (probably play tbe game before reading this) I managed to get a build with baron blueprint and mime and fixed my deck to mostly be steel kings and got a score of 3.306e19 and ante 16 and like i know of ways i could’ve gotten a higher score too (backtrack, red seals, invis, showman) and the mistakes i made (i took a early ecto that landed on a joker that wasnt good late in the run) and i wanna go back and try and get that build again so i can get a higher score Other than getting high score runs there are also stakes (which are like different difficulties) and challenges and you can start with different decks for slight variation in strategy.AshManCanVersion: 1.4.8

Game is amazing, but my save corruptedIf you have not, I would 1000% recommend playing this game. Everything about it is extremely engaging and addictive. That being said, somehow my save corrupted and I am completely unable to play the game even after deleting and redownloading. It may have something to do with me skipping the tutorials and closing the app before I finished my first run. I then did a few more runs and the compendium had a bunch of bugs. Jokers and cards I’ve used wouldn’t appear and the joker unlock message for “oops all 6s” would re appear for every hand that I played. I then went on to win the run before closing the app. When I tried to reopen it it gave me an error message saying it couldn’t load my save. AMAZING GAMEI now own this on mobile, PS5, and steam. This is the greatest time waster I’ve ever stumbled across. It will seem impossible at first, so make sure to look up tips for beginners. Cash is king in the early rounds, so save up. Also, make sure to move your jokers into the right order. You’ll want ones that add chips all the way to the left, followed by +multiplier, then Xmultiplier. Also move the cards in your hand around if you have, say, retrigger first card. If you put a bonus card there(to the left) it will retrigger the bonus. TONS of strategy involved that I wasn’t picking up on when I first started playing. Now, I almost always make it to at least ante 6 or 7 with no problem..CityofcharlotteVersion: 1.4.7

Awesome game - issuesAwesome, completely engrossing and addictive game. I’ll leave the details to others. Issues: I have a ‘21 (I think) iPad Pro 11”. Plays like a dream. I also have an iPhone 15 Pro 256 GB running iOS 17.6.1. The Apple Arcade + version freezes constantly. Swiping to close the app and then reopening will allow the game to continue until it decides to freeze again. I’m talking 5 freezes in less than 10 minutes. I’m running the latest update of the game closest to this review date. It’s a shame the difference in experience between these two devices. One runs like butter, the other is an exercise in frustration. iCloud saves. I have yet to see the ability to pick up playing a game left off from one device to the other. This was absolute magic years ago, now it’s standard and common place amongst iOS and iPad OS games. Why is this not available here? Finally, I’ll echo others, but start by adding - the in game music is excellent, and the composers should be proud of that work. But an option to play your own music would be welcomed. In short - I still can’t wrap my head around how a game based/rooted in poker has recently taken time away from from playing StS, which has been my most played game (of any genre) over the past 5+ years. Obviously, I know it’s much more than just a poker game - and that’s what makes Balatro so amazing. The developer took a very simple game, and somehow used it to create an absolute juggernaut of a deck building game. It seems to simple when you first play it, but the more you play the more you realize how many different ways you can build and/or play a deck to potentially succeed (quick tip: don’t immediately disregard “bad hands” like high card, pair, and two pairs - you’ll see them in your hand constantly, so look for ways consistently cash in with them!). Fun at firstThis is a great Apple Arcade game for adults and definitely one of the most fun and challenging games I’ve ever played. It takes a lot of thought and time and I seem to learn something about the game every time I play. My only issue, and it’s a big one, is that once you get to the more challenging levels, (I am at 16 of 31), winning is almost impossible. It’s like there is an invisible brick wall that the developers don’t want you to pass. The final antes jump from 200k to 600k points (ridiculous) or you just don’t get any decent jokers with the right hands to progress regardless of which deck you use (it’s like that joke about the definition of insanity). Finally Gave In to Peer PressureI’m in my forties and rarely play video games anymore, mostly due to lack of time. When I do, it’s usually a word game at the end of the day. I kept seeing Balatro recommended… here in the App Store, on Reddit, on Steam, etc. I didn’t have any interest because I’m not a poker or solitaire player. But, I finally tried it on Apple Arcade and cannot put it down! While the poker-meets-solitaire analogy is apt, it also feels a little like poker-meets-Magic-the-Gathering. In any case, it’s an amazing, thoughtfully designed game free of ads and micro-transactions. A must-try, in my opinion, especially if you have Apple Arcade..Nthdesign-v2Version: 1.4.8

Not my genre of choice, but I’m still hookedI probably wouldn’t have tried this game if it weren’t for all the awards it’s been getting. I’m honestly not really into poker or the casino aesthetic, however this is one polished card-based roguelite. The charming pixel art, the snappy micro-animations, and the mesmerizing music all come together to create a very satisfying experience. My only wish is that it supported portrait mode instead of just landscape. Another potential downside is that it’s also very addictive. I was VERY skeptical at first, hearing that it was “too addictive” and a Game of the Year nominee; I couldn’t help but feel that it was being overhyped. Great Game with Terrible Saving IssuesI really love this game. It’s addictive and fun. It is actually a 5 star game in terms of game play. That said, the reason for my 3 star rating is that randomly, the game will not track/count your win. I have not noticed a pattern that would help me prevent this from occurring. I won 5 challenges that it tracked, and on the 6th that I won, it didn’t show on the menu screen that it had been beaten. This has happened several times in various game modes. The other issue is that it drains battery life like crazy while playing, but I could overlook that if the game would always save when I win. I keep discarding!There is little more to be said about Balatro than what is already available on the internet, I’ve rarely gone a week without playing at least 10 runs since its initial launch, and decided months ago that I’ll be voting for Balatro to win GOTY if it’s nominated. However, I would love an option to alternate the positions of the ‘play hand’ and ‘discard hand’ buttons as where they sit now is remarkably intuitive for right-handed play if your express goal is to discard good hands. Just downloaded TodayI love card games and I am always looking for something new. I am thrilled I ran across this one. So far I love it. I am learning how to use the Jokers, Taro, and other misc cards. I know they can increase my score I am just trying to figure out how. Learning how to use other features to my advantage as well. One thing I would ask is an option to make the #’s & letters on the cards larger for those of us who have a little harder time seeing. I CANT PUT THIS GAME DOWNNNNNThis game is amazing. I found it on the arcade and decided I would download it to have a relaxing game to play. But nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo onononononononononono. This game is difficult very annoying, and designed to make me smash my device in every way. But insanely fun. Does not syncLeaving at 5 stars since this is probably a Game Center issue. I can see achievements on both devices (the least important thing works… wow), but all the card unlocks from one device are unavailable on the other (the only reason you’d want Game Center logged in anyway duh). I am not trying to sync a run, but seems very basic to expect the same unlocks to be available across devices when logged in. Very very basic Apple. Do not install on multiple devicesThis is a FANTASTIC game, and you shouldn’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Like any game, though (especially one from a small team), it has some bugs here and there. Most of them matter very little. But the save syncing feature seems to be badly broken for some people (including myself). I played a bunch on my iPad; later, once I launched the game on my phone, it seems to have tried to download the existing save, but failed; then it uploaded the empty phone save to iCloud, overwriting the data from the iPad, and the next time I opened the game on my iPad, it downloaded the empty save and I lost all my progress. Fun and easy to pass the timeI really like it and it’s pretty addicting. But one thing I have noticed, especially in the boss blinds are there are times when it seems the coding for the boss blinds is broken and it’s debuffing or flipping cards that shouldn’t be included. Like wild cards in addition to hearts are debuffed. Or the boss blinds with every 7th card is faced down but half the cards are faced down in the first deal. Cloud Sync Doesn’t WorkThis is a great game that you can play for 5 minutes or 5 hours (and believe me, you will not believe how quickly 5 hours can pass). However, either cloud sync is not a part of this game or it doesn’t work properly, because I have made a lot of progress on my iPhone but opening the game on iPad or MacBook starts me off at 0%. The achievements sync across GameCenter with no problem, but collection progress does not (so no deck unlocks on other devices). Great, I'd add one final thingThis game is the definition of addiciting. The amount of different boosters and Jokers to collect, among other knick knacks, is staggering. You can really get lost in this game for hours, trying to beat your all-time best run. It's relatively easy to learn, and the introductory mission will pretty much tell you all the basics you need ot know - the rest will come quickly. I think the developers missed a really fantastic opportunity to include another level of depth to the game by introducing an overall currency; one that could be used to increase the odds of certain Jokers spawning in the shop. My favorite mobile game in yearsI've put probably 60 hours into it. It's very difficult and enjoyable. However there's some major flaws... Like some cards are poorly explained. Flush house, Royal flush have their own multipliers which are significantly less than a flush which is very counterintuitive as I've never seen a card to upgrade either. It's annoying that somethings give the expected bonus and others don't I have lost many times because of this. For example there's a joker card that includes "contains a pair" which works on pair and two pair? But not full house/flush house? Despite both of those including pairs? So lots of time it's not the expected result, it's very luck based and there should be an option to show the total turn outcome before playing the round. But then there is Balatro, and maybe you have watched the video for it on the marketplace and have no idea what the heck your watching, cards and chips and blinking and blonking, let me assure you though this thing is tight and right. Because of the simplicity of what the base game is, it’s easy to get into, the better part of the game is just figuring out how the heck it all works together, like the tarot cards, planet cards, joker cards etcetera. Then once you know what your dealing with, you then realize this game is frigging genius and deserves the 12.00 price tag ( when I bought it ). Perfect as well for when you need to put down the phone and take care of something or if you leave it alone for a couple days , you can instantly and easily just pick up from where you left off. Cloud sync and unlocks are still brokenI’ve played quite a bit, restarted several times, and was hoping the game-breaking bugs would be fixed by now. Even after deleting it from all my devices, deleting my cloud data from iCloud, and starting over with a fresh install of 1.4.5, I have to relaunch the game with Wi-Fi turned off just to get past the “Loading Cloud Save” screen. I frequently will complete a blind on a new stake and receive the notification that I unlocked a new deck, the deck will still be locked. I’ll buy new jokers, but they won’t show in the collection. My save state doesn’t transfer between my iPad and iPhone (which is strange, since it used to a few weeks ago). It’s so disappointing. I love this game and have played it extensively on Steam, but this version is just broken. Outstanding game, disastrous cloud savesThis game is phenomenally well designed and addictive, the gameplay is great and the sound and art design are fantastic. HOWEVER, the developers have failed miserably at implementing a simple cloud save solution. If you open this game on multiple devices, be sure to close out completely before switching - the game will overwrite your save with the least-updated instance. EVEN WORSE, if you uninstall/reinstall on an iPad for instance, and have 82% completion progress on iPhone - everything goes back to 0. My Game Center achievements are still there, but my progress in an outwardly completionist-minded game is totally gone. The developers solution has been to “only play on one device”. Serious bugs with Achievements and Play DataI wish I could rate this version of Balatro well but there are some terrible bugs currently. 1. I’ve won multiple runs including the tutorial run and my profile shows no wins. Play stats in general are wrong. 2. My previous play through unlocked new decks but upon coming back none of them are unlocked. This includes a few jokers, tarot cards, etc. 3. When you unlock something during a run the game repeatedly tells you endlessly that you unlocked that thing. For example, I unlocked a joker and about every 5-10 seconds I get notified again. If I then unlock more things I get notified repeatedly about both things until the run ends. It’s very annoying. I have this game on steam and none of the bugs I’m reporting here appear on the Steam release. Overall the games mechanics and play loop I love but you can’t screw up progression mechanics and save data on a rogue like otherwise playthroughs are meaningless. But it has a a longstanding bug where it doesn’t unlock achievements after successful runs. Complete the 8/8 antes with a deck? Nope, doesn’t recognize it and white stake remains locked and red stake isn’t unlocked? Trying to get the next deck unlocked? Prepare to play and win a deck a dozen times before it finally recognizes a victory and unlocks the achievement.
