OnX Hunt: GPS Hunting Maps App Comments & Reviews

OnX Hunt: GPS Hunting Maps Positive Reviews

Best Hunt Mapping AppThe features available on OnX are better than any other hunting and mapping app I have used in the past. Excellent array of mapping layers to select from, even including NOAA nautical charts, logging and burn data and federal land. Very good property ownership data, though I wonder how often it is updated, as I have noticed some parcels that are currently labeled incorrectly just based on knowing the current owner. The vast selection of possible waypoint markers, the ability to track your movement and save the path, and the ability to share those data points with other users of the app is great. They recently updated the satellite imagery to more recent imagery, which has been helpful in many cases, but therein lies my only complaint I can think of at this time. I would like the ability to choose between a small number of satellite imagery layers from different dates to display the map in. I often use OnX to e-scout for waterfowl hunting and the satellite imagery from before the update was taken in the winter, allowing me to better see creeks and marshes which flow under tree canopies. The latest imagery makes it harder to see into those possible duck holes. The ability to switch between winter and summer imagery would be very beneficial for that purpose and many other hunting and angling pursuits. Overall, love the app and all of the available features..Version: 20.18.0

Wyoming, Minnesota & MichiganI have used onX Hunt app for the last three years for many different applications and has proved more valuable than I could have ever imagined. The first experience was hunting a different area in Wyoming I had never hunted before, and onX proved to me almost immediately that this was a very useful tool to have. I made sure I downloaded the area maps I was to hunt and not having cell service was not an issue. The information I needed for boundaries was spot on and the features the app has was very useful, too. The second time was when I spent a week in the, Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness for a week. Again I downloaded four maps in the area I intended to explore and the maps even included information such as Forest Service camp sites in the BWCAW, portage routes, and even additional lake depth information. We were on a rather large lake and the weather got bad and I was a little unsure where I was in relation to my paper map and the numerous islands on this lake. I took out my phone turned it on and quickly figured out I where I was and paddled to the portage I needed to get to before the weather got really bad. The last adventure I used the onX app was in another area of MN on the Superior Hiking Trail. Again, I downloaded the area maps of my hiking route because cell signal is sketchy at best and the entire trail, and the information like the SHT Trail, camping sites, and parking areas are all there. I think it’s a great backup tool because I’m a paper map person first, but I always like to have a back up plan to save myself unnecessary lost time (pun intended)!.Version: 5.7.2

Great product, great customer supportI have been using the onXmaps program on my iPhone for over a year here in Montana. It has become an indispensable tool for me. As in many states, Montana can have some very confusing land ownership patterns. There are places where the fences and mix of private and public land are so confusing that I refused to hunt them. Now I can go there with confidence. I had an issue recently with my saved for offline use maps. It was probably my fault. Still, I couldn't resolve it so I contacted onXmaps support. Right away I got an email with step by step instructions for resolving the issue which worked. So, great product, great customer support. I have told everyone that I know about this great product. If you hike, fish, hunt, backpack, you should buy this. Update: I have been an enthusiastic user of the hunt app for years now. The app just keeps getting better and my uses for it continue to expand. I and my hunting partners have used the app to scout new areas among many other uses. This last season, we hunted a private ranch that had been broken into units on which the public could hunt in limited numbers. Before we hunted there, we put the boundaries of the partitioned ranch on our offline maps. We hunted that place with confidence. This is a great product and a great company..Version: 20.14.1

Only needs one thing to be perfectAbsolutely wonderful when compared to all other apps in its market segment, and although 3D maps are becoming a thing I’ve found them to be very slow and not so useful (topo tells the same story and doesn’t lag like most 3D maps do; I still just use Google Earth if I want a quick look). The only thing I notice between all apps is a less-than-accurate trails layer, and this is across all of them. But I know that’s asking a lot. MVUM and local hiking trails maps are still your best bet for accurate info there. The onX Hunt is the best all-around and most reliable app of all, meaning when you go offline you don’t suddenly have issues with the layers not being there or things of that nature. The only thing it could improve on is a layer that shows springs/creeks/rivers. Would help narrow down a place quickly. To date, there isn’t a one-stop-shop when it comes to e-scouting, but onX is by far the closest thing to it. I still use onC and goHUNT and Google Earth, but all my Waypoints are saved using onX & it’s the one I use when in the backcountry. This is a rapidly-evolving market segment however, so we’ll see what 2022 brings to the table..Version: 21.48.0

WorksUPDATE/EDIT: The app was crashing and freezing. The developer suggested I uninstall it and reinstall. That fixed it, mostly, for a while. I use this app daily, and just had to do it again, but at least there’s a fix to it. The only thing I hate about uninstalling and reinstalling is that I have to re-download the offline maps, which I need. And to be fair, I’m betting that I push it (and the phone) to its max. I manage 4 large ranches (almost 100k acres total), with almost nonexistent cell service. I have put in a LOT of info, in the app. Plus the highest resolution maps available are downloaded for all 100k acres, and the surrounding areas. The developers are responsive as well, as they’ve finally fixed the screen timeout issue, which is GREATLY appreciated. The app won’t even open in my phone now. It started off having issues if I switched apps, like to a ballistic calculator and then back to onX. I updated it, and now it won’t even get passed the red loading screen before it crashes. Shutdown and restarted the app, my phone, closed everything else, both on/off wifi. Nothing. It’s literally worthless right now. I used it daily, on the ranch. I’ll go try the desktop site now, but it’s pointless if it won’t work on my phone..Version: 22.47.1

GratitudeI have been using OnX for several years, both as a scouting tool and as a live tracker/GPS in the field. As an app I have never been disappointed in its performance nor have I had any need to reach out to their support staff, which I hear is world class. This app has only ever been a powerhouse for me in times of need and I lean on it heavily. OnX truly has become indispensable to any outdoors trip I do. The battery usage in offline mode is very reasonable, and the features they add with each update make it continue to improve on itself over time. It makes navigation in the dark significantly easier, has extremely detailed maps with customizable overlays and pins, locates your position with pinpoint accuracy, and you can take meticulous notes from every situation. In fact, I consider it so important to my loadout that I also carry a sizable power bank to ensure that I can keep the GPS working, in case a trip takes a negative turn. I solo hunt often and OnX is my constant companion in the wild. I am glad to renew this service yearly as well as to support the team behind this incredibly useful app. Great product and thank you from a grateful customer..Version: 21.37.0

No more guess workI camp exclusively and regularly on BLM and National Forest lands. Much of this land is not marked and it is often interspersed with private properties whether by private individuals or State, City and county owners. The ONX maps remove the guesswork and accidental trespassing that one will eventually find ones self confronting. ONX clearly labels property lines by ownership. ONX also indicates offroad types by width and conditions with recommendations of vehicle types best for travel on these roads and trails. I can mark locations with icons of available ammenities in each location. Then i can map the route to that location and follow the route in real time. This takes away the possibility of turning to early or missing the route all together. I can copy the coordinates and transfer them to my maps app, add that camp site into a route that i have to other stops on my travel maps app. I love this app and use it regularly. If you have ever found yourself confronted by a private land owner and evicted when you thought you were legally camped on BLM or NF land, you need this app. That stress and embarrassment will never happen again! I highly recommend either ONX HUNT and/or ONX OFFROAD..Version: 26.19.0

Found Bull Valley with OnX!After 18 years of applying, my wife and I Drew coveted “Early Rifle Bull” Tags in our home State, Arizona. The extended drought in the Grand Canyon State left our National Forests under strict closure. No access was granted except for Ranchers hauling water to their stock. We were relegated to Scouting from the Highway shoulder. Or, you could get out the iPad and cyber scout with OnX! I poured over our Elk Unit and great glassing spots in neighboring Units into our Unit. OnX makes it easy to see where your Unit’s boundaries end and the others begin as well as identifying private property too. Being barred from the Forests until July 13th, OnX Scouting was our only viable option for a Unit we knew very little about. I was able to discern areas far from roads and study the topography, water holes, (which are are full now because our drought was replaced by a conga line of heavy rainstorms) heavy timber and feeding areas with their Satellite view. Anyway, I identified several areas that deserved inspection. We went to the place that looked best to me and were blown away at the amount of Elk we saw. This valley/Canyon we were glassing turned up 16-18 Bulls, including a really nice 6x6 Bull in a bachelor herd of 9 Bulls! Other raghorns were scattered throughout the valley, as were man cows for them to woo here in the very new future. They are just starting to bugle and the valley was alive with their haunting music. Thanks OnX. This is a must have app for your phone, tablet and GPS. When we purchased our new Garmin Montana 610 GPS, getting the OnX chip for it was a no-brainer! I’m gonna shoot that big 6x6 and OnX was invaluable in helping me find him..Version: 4.18.2

Only one issue I’d like to have correctedI’ve been using OnX since 2020 & I love it. It is a very seamless system, easy-to-decipher weather data, accurate GPS-to-map location, wide spectrum of waypoint customization, many tools including area creation/acreage measuring, line measuring, etc. Offline maps are easy to obtain & so forth. The ONLY thing that I’d like to see OnX do “and it is something that is much-needed” is to update their maps. The mapping data is very out-dated. I find myself constantly having to goto Apple Maps or Google maps to get a more-updated view of a property. The other map platforms a lot have a lot clearer of an image (OnX is clear, but google and apple are Crisp images). Lastly, and this is more of a pet-peeve than it is something wrong with the app, but all these images were taken late-spring to late summer timeframe. So it is really hard to see transitions in the woods. Google maps has a satellite shot that was taken during the dead of winter. It really helps to see like oak-to-saplings, or anything really that’s a pine transition. It also helps to see the topography of the land (different tree types going into a wooded creek bottom and etc). So if they were to update their maps, I would suggest that they provide two map overlays. One from a winter shot & one from a summer shot. Those summer shots can be very helpful too, just not as much as winter shots. If they were to update this one item, they would have my 5-star review & I know tons of people that said they will subscribe to OnX and get away from HuntStand as soon as they update their map overlays……..OnX; if you are reading this, please take this suggestion under advisement. All of your consumers would be extremely happy to get a map update..Version: 22.45.0

Best hunt map app! Easy to use!I’ve used a couple other apps in the recent past that were recommended by friends, but none of them were really user friendly or had all of the options that I was looking for. Then I found OnX. SO much easier to use than the other apps. It’s now my go-to-app when I’m at home looking at my maps or in the field marking game sign and scouting new areas for stands or blinds. I’m sold for life; OnX is perfect for my hunting map needs. Highly recommended! **Update after 4 months of use** The onX app continues to be one of the most useful hunting tools in my arsenal! I have completed mapping our 1200 acres of private hunting land using onX, including mapping all of the trails and marking locations of more than 110 tree stands. Throughout the process, I have learned more about the land that we hunt than I ever could’ve imagined. Thanks to onX, learning the (complete) lay of the land was so much easier than I thought it would be. I’ll definitely have the app open every time I go in the woods! Being able to share way points with friends has been super helpful. If you’re considering trying out onX, do it with confidence! The app is great!!.Version: 5.2.0

IF YOUDON’T USE ONX SOMETHINGS WRONGI have been using On xfor the last four years for all kinds of hunting with it be deer, turkey, coyotes waterfall and it has helped me a lot or knowing my property lines and line ownership information for permission to hunt lands and to know where border lines are or utilize on exit every day when I’m in the woods even when I’m at work scouting for a place to hunt I highly recommend you use ONX for your every day hunting fishing Even Camping needs. It is help me to stay off other peoples property and it’s also help me get me an owner information for hunting properties and ask permission and be able to scout from the air and see where a really good spot could be to hunt using the pin locations has helped me so much and being able to mark trails, robs sightings of animals and even being able to place where my truck is parked or where I should park and where my tree stands blinds or spots to set up should be. It is the best app I’ve ever used to be able to find work locations to hunt and be able to get my spots figured out from the air. Don’t waste your time or any other app get ONX..Version: 22.45.0

Most useful app I haveI was hesitant to try this app after some other ones came up very short, but after a few friends recommended it I tried the free trial. I was hooked the first time I used it! For once there is an app that actually does what it advertises. Just today it was well worth the yearly subscription, I had hiked about 7 miles into the woods along a game trail and it was getting very hot and I was very tired, I decided to open OnX to see how much further I had to go if I stayed on the trail to intersect the road, when I opened the app I saw that I had just started paralleling the road but the intersection was another two miles away, but as the crow flies I was only a half mile from the road, so I just hiked the half mile and was back on the road I had parked on saving me probably a couple hours. Also customer support is great! I was having an issue with the app when off grid sometimes, I emailed them about it and they responded quickly stating they were aware of the issue and it had already been fixed in the update that got released that same day, I updated the app and it has been flawless ever since! Best app ever.Version: 4.19.0

Bruh I got no titleI don’t even hunt but I got this before I knew about the other versions; had it since 2021. I assume new features get added here first tho cause it’s like the flagship app. I use this for quite a lot of GIS purposes in addition to general navigation and knowing land ownership, and I’m pretty happy with the ease of interface compared to Avenza, Gaia, Alltrails, or anything else you might find out there. Also they support increased public access to places in a couple ways so I’m compelled enough to make a review. Also also, I have so many polygons, pins, and lines on my map but it doesn’t crash anymore since some kind of improvements they did. One thing to be cautious of is the fact that a lot of the road and trail data is not totally accurate, but this is almost always because whatever source they’re pulling from is inaccurate so other places you find the data are inaccurate too. Like Siskiyou county CA’s GIS parcel data is off and OnX’s. data is off in the same exact way. Do your due diligence but this is a great tool and well worth the subscription I think..Version: 26.11.1

Great product, great people, that’s a company I can get behind.OnX is simple to navigate and a great resource. I use the app primarily for fly fishing. I love being able to customize waypoints to differentiate where I have fished, and the new spots I’m scoping out. Downloading offline maps is another awesome feature. It brings ease in locating spots I’ve scoped out and maintaining awareness of public/private land to avoid accidental trespassing, regardless of whether or not there is cell service. I use a few apps with a similar purpose, however, none come close in comparison to the capabilities, clarity, and user friendly nature of OnX. To top it off, I had the opportunity to meet multiple OnX employees while working at a local coffee shop in Bozeman. I was no longer working in coffee when I got into fly fishing, but when someone recommended I look into the app, I remembered the fun group that I used to serve espresso to daily. The people I met were so memorable, this tied with my new found love for the app, only furthered my support for this company. A great product created by great people, that’s a company I can get behind..Version: 22.21.0

Solid Conservationist AppThe versatility of this App is second to none in regards to the realm of conservationists. Being able to see all public, private, leases, wilderness areas, weather reports, etc. all from one app AND being able to ping places you’ve hunted so you can remember them for the next time is just too handy. That paired with the unbelievably reasonable subscriptions there truly isn’t anything to complain about, a service like this I was expecting to pay $$$/ month. The customer service is beyond exceptional. I originally got signed up in Texas and use only the Texas OnX maps, I am now moving to Wyoming and when reaching out to support to see if I could get my states changed over there was no hassle. No, “well we can’t really do that” no, “well you have to pay a fee” no nonsense. I asked if that was something they could do and within 5 minutes they emailed me back politely letting me know that my request had been completed. Every conservationist in my family uses this, I would and do recommend this app to every conservationist I come across. Thanks for the awesome service OnX!.Version: 4.31.0

Definitely a FanI have been using the app now for approx. 3 years now. I have had a number of Garmin GPS units which helped to keep me on track in unfamiliar territory. None provided the amount of info that OnXmaps delivers and I was always having to work through bugs with them. I found myself using OnXmaps more and more and eventually only carried the GPS in the holder on my Ranger. Last year I found myself in a dispute on some land that was listed as US government trust land but was apparently being leased to an unnamed Native American tribe. The told me I couldn’t hunt on the land and called law is enforcement. Law Enforcement upheld my position and said that they also use OnXmaps. The only thing that kept me from giving it 5 stars is that it only works in the vertical position on my IPad and doesn’t rotate. Yes, I admit that all of the landowner info isn’t up to the minute accurate, but last time I checked I’m not right 100% of the time either. If there is a piece of property I want to hunt on that’s private, I don’t take it for granted that it’s okay to hunt on, I try to contact them. If I can’t contact the landowner, I hunt somewhere else. Simple enough. Highly recommend. Good luck in your adventures..Version: 5.3.0

Love it, but…I downloaded the free version at first, and really enjoyed using it. In fact, the waypoints and scouting data I was able to record helped me bag my first turkey in 7 years. I wanted to get a subscription but had been laid off at the time. I received a free 3-month trial for the full access version with the purchase of a tree stand, and was very impressed with it, to the point I decided to pay for a subscription once it expired. It was expiring before Christmas and I asked my wife to buy a subscription as a gift. The trial period has expired and I am now unable to edit the maps, add waypoints, or even interact with my established waypoints like I was before I had the subscription. I find this supremely disappointing and it has made me second guess whether I will choose to buy a subscription. I put in way too much time and effort scouting to lose all of my data, and I will go back to using an inferior but free app if I feel my scouting data is safer there. If the app makers could let me know what I’m missing or if this wasn’t supposed to happen I would appreciate it. I want to love this product and will adjust my rating and purchase a subscription if this issue is addressed..Version: 23.45.1

Best app I have ever usedThis is my first review. Ever. I have been using OnX Hunt for a few years now. I cannot stop recommending this app to everyone I talk hunting with. I mark everything. Trails, tracks, rubs, scrapes, roosts, kills, sightings, treestands, blinds, trail cameras.... everything. At first I used it to keep inventory of my gear and where it was left. Now I share a few hunting spots and hunt some friends ground as well. They are now able to see where the trail cameras, stands and blinds are and can hang theirs accordingly. If I need or want them to check a cam? No problem. I can show them exactly where it is. From satellite and topo maps I am able to scout a lot from the air before I ever step foot on the property. And having landowner info is AWESOME when bow season is over and we change gears and start predator hunting. I measure, figure areas, scout, drop waypoints for everything. Best. App. Period. I will continue to pay for this app and will continue to recommend it to anyone that truly takes their hunting seriously. Thank you for creating an app that is, in my opinion, one of the best tools a hunter can have in his pocket..Version: 4.4.0

Excellent technical supportBeing that I am, from time to time, technologically challenged, it come to me as no surprise that I often cause myself trouble. A week or so ago, I noticed two separate charges to my credit card for OnX Hunt. After sending an email asking about the nature of this double charge, I promptly received an email clarifying that I was charged twice because I had created two accounts; one account subscribed to Elote services on a monthly basis, and another account subscribed to elite services on an annual basis. Acknowledging that the error was mine, I replied thanking the technician for helping me understand the cause of my problem, and asking them to please cancel the lesser used account, which was the annually renewed account. To my surprise and satisfaction, not only did the technical staff cancel the account, but they refunded my annual fee for the account I cancelled. Even though the error was my own doing, they refunded my money. Besides that, the app is great when outdoors, whether hunting, fishing, or just being in nature. I never leave home without it!.Version: 21.43.1

OnX is piece of mind!I use the app for two states. It give me peace of mind, knowing that I’m in a LEGAL spot to be hunting and without the worry of catching a trespassing case or hunting somewhere where I’m not supposed to be. OnX hunt greatly improves my abilities to scout certain areas to hunt at and all at the tip of my fingertips. Thank you onX Hunt, it would be a lot harder without you! ***Update: I just upgraded to the “Elite” membership. Saying that im impressed is an understatement! The benefits of the app is incredible! I love being able to now work all 50 states! This is an invaluable tool and I can’t imagine being without it for all of my hunting and pre-hunting needs! I especially like the newest feature of see what the land looks like as of ever two weeks! That’s incredible, showing me current field conditions for hunting. Finally, I have to tip my hat to OnX hunt’s customer service! Their reps are awesome and super helpful. I’ve called them twice and resolved any questions I had. Thank you OnX, I’ll never leave home without your service!!!!!!!.Version: 24.31.1

Keep Coming Back to OnXI am exclusively a public land hunter and have been incredibly impressed with the features of OnX. I have tried 3 other apps, one of which I use in conjunction with OnX to digitally scout. I have found the layers on OnX superior to all others. One suggestion I would make on the app is a hover option over crop fields to textually identify the crop type. On the web app I don’t have to click on the field and read through the whole card just to tell what is planted there. I find myself going to web app more then I would like just to have that feature. I realize there are colors to differentiate crop types on the phone app but I don’t want to have to memorize the colors to differentiate. Especially with crops that have similar shading (eg. soybeans vs winter wheat). It would be nice to just hover the cross hairs in the phone app over the crop and have a small text appear on the screen to indicate the crop type. Same goes for tree types as well. Overall this is a great app!! Keep up the good work!.Version: 22.47.0

The app is fantastic and their customer support even betterI’ve had this app for two years now and as I use it more the benefits are even better. I have sent sure how well it could find my stands and blinds in the dark but it took me to each spot right on top of it! You can’t get lost with this app! So what about customer service? That’s pretty much gone these days except for ON X. After mistakenly deleting some important waypoints (even after their typed response are you sure you want to delete this waypoint” I assumed they were gone forever but not for ON X! I called their customer service line and actually spoke to a couple of real sharp guys and they were even able to repost these two waypoints for me in seconds! And reaching them took only a few seconds to actually speak to someone!!! Get the app if you’re a hunter because it’s the best money you’ll spend and it works flawlessly and if you have questions they’ll speak with you on the phone!!!! Imagine that..Version: 24.41.2

Incredible app and customer serviceI have used this app over the last 3 years for hunting and many other outdoor activities and is by far the best mapping app I’ve used. It’s user friendly and accurate. The 3D maps make it so much better when planning routes and timing. I’ve not seen anything that comes close to comparing. Recently on a hunt with my cousin he was very satisfied with his mapping app until I showed him what OnX could do. He referred to my maps the rest of the hunt and was convinced to get it for himself. Great customer service as well. When I upgraded from premium services to elite and the upgrade went through the Apple Store and the annual premium service auto charge went through OnX at about the same time and I was double charged, it was a simple email to OnX to get it fixed. Within the hour I had an email reply and refund already headed to my account. I travel several states for hunting, camping, hiking etc and this is the best app and worth the annual fee many time over..Version: 23.45.1

Locked out of accountSo the new year is coming up and I have a two state account. I thought living in Maine maybe I’d go to NH and it would come in handy. I didn’t, so I realized that spending the extra money didn’t make sense since I barely have the time to hunt in my own state so I decided to cancel my two state into a single state I searched how to do that and it’s rather simple. Click cancel subscription which logs you out and then you log back in and what you payed for is there until the subscription ends say December 1st in my case. Like most people my phone is my password keeper. I can’t remember or use the same thing so often that it’s not recommended so I use a difficult password and my phone remembers it. Problem was it didn’t work. I’m freaking out I want back into my account now. So I email them. Then I email again explaining that I’ve tried what it says and I keep getting re routed back to the same spot with out any help at all. A nice person named Travis sends me an email saying you’re all set to get back into your account and now you can re set your password. Personally it was a godsend but for him it was 10 seconds and 3 clicks and my life was changed. I know nothing special but I love using this app as it takes me from comfort to out there which is how I was able to kill my first deer ever this year and was able to track back to that same spot a couple days and a couple months later by using this app. Keep up the great work!!.Version: 25.43.0

OkApp is ok. Satellite imagining is just ok compared to other apps that do the same service. Every other app is a lot cheaper also. I have been an on x user since they released the app. In my opinion they pull some shady things when it comes to billing. Most apps remind you before they automatically bill you for the coming year. OnX doesn’t. They send you tons of marketing emails but nothing to remind you your billing is going to renew. On top of that, if you already have a subscription, don’t bother taking advantage of any sales or one of the discounts they offer on multiple social media/podcasts. If you’re current subscription is still active the new subscription will just replace the current one. So really you just lose months of already paid for service if you renew before your subscription is up. All of this was figured out by trial and error which is fine but customer service and or more transparency would be nice. From a long time user, who has relied on this app for a lot… there are a lot better apps out there now that offer the same or more for a lot better price..Version: 21.45.0

The BEST Outdoor Map and UI Experience!Almost a year ago I had the opportunity to try OnX at a reduced rate annual subscription and figured that as an avid outdoor enthusiast I could not go wrong. Since then, I have made OnX my premier map interface solution for ANYTHING outdoors. Whether I am hiking or driving, OnX allows me to chart the path, or if I am feeling bold, explore new territory which complete confidence of where I am and who owns the property I am on. Setting up waypoints and tracking my travel could not be easier or more customizable than what OnX offers. I am able to share my information with others to allow for geolocate tools or cross-reference to finer detail in Google Earth. What makes OnX really shine is the ability to download areas directly to your phone for non-service use. All smartphones have built-in GPS that allows for satellite (not daw tower) usage to continue tracking your location. This is critical when you are in areas where service is unavailable. In addition to this are overlays unique to your area based on a plethora of data sources. This could be fire history, drought history, etc.. The layers are nearly endless, but each add a unique value that can be toggled on or off. There are dozens of incredible features and functionality that surely one person couldn’t even take full advantage of in one year. I am still learning more and more about the app through their Live Q&A sessions. You do not want to pass on this one!.Version: 5.6.0

Property Ownership Updates SlowBased on my direct experience using the app as well as providing correct land owner information to OnX, they are very slow to update land ownership changes. I would venture to say that the land ownership is one of the most if not the most important map layer that hunters want to see. For the price that users pay for this subscription, this is the information that needs to be as current as possible, especially when the app is showing a property as open to the public when it is actually privately owned. I own property that was shown on the app as open to the public when I purchased it nearly a year ago. The app showed the property that was previously owned by a University Foundation as open to the public even though the foundation had it posted as private. I alerted OnX to this error and provided them all of the information they requested but the error still remains today. This land was never open to the public. If this is the speed at which the company handles a critical map error, as a user I would not pay the extra for “elite” membership. Just my personal opinion as a hunter and subscriber..Version: 4.23.0

Best hunt map I have ever used! This map has always been accurate on my New Mexico hunts! I recently found out that it is so accurate that even our New Mexico game wardens use this system. However, the best yet is the fact that every time I’ve a question someone has picked up the phone almost immediately when I call. I love talking to real people instead of some others with new AI business communication system that says they can answer questions because they speak like real people, but in reality they are useless with only canned answers to canned questions. Every time I have called ONX I’ve spoken with a real support team member answering my call. Each support team member has resolved my issues or questions. This service is A++++ for me. Don’t ever let modern AI answering service crap out there nowadays with some companies set you back from your perfect personal support abilities!! Thank you, ONX!!! Rick from New Mexico..Version: 23.37.1

Great app, lacking in a few placesI love this app so far, but one gripe. The downloadable maps should be more customizable, or at least give me more options. I’m locked into low/medium/high res maps for offline use. The high and medium res maps have amazing detail, too much for my uses, and only lets me download a certain size (5 or 10 mile wide) plot at a time. If I wanted to download a 100 mile square I would have to download 10 different maps. Not the hardest thing in the world to do, but tedious when compared to other offline gps app like Gaia(onxhunt and Gaia are very different, Gaia/off-roading navigation and onxhunt I use for hunting). The low res covers practically all of Colorado, and is close to detailed enough, but not quite. If they could make an offline map download option that was in between the low and medium res options, this app would be everything I could hope for. I could download 4-8 maps and cover the entire state, and never have to worry about not having service when I want to check my location..Version: 4.4.0

App improvements in the future? Maybe? I hope! The great Support team understood what I wanted in see in their app. First, my suggestion is when the live tracking is turned on your phone, your home computer with this application of Onx should instantly see you. It’s all web based. You shouldn’t have to save tracking first to have your home computer see where you have been. It’s a great safety feature that needs to be incorporated with app. Secondly, I would like to see new tracks start with a different color when you first use it. It helps seeing easier where you started and stopped during a good week of hard hunting. Currently you have to save track and then change its color. Cumbersome. I hope onx will listen and get these features for others to use. It’s a great app that I will continue to use. They are kind and considerate and always willing to listen to new suggestions..Version: 21.35.0

Amazing hunting appBest hunting map by far. I really love the app the only problem I have is when saving maps offline the icons stay big and you can not see pass them. This is the only reason why I gave 4 stars I will change my rating when fixed. Update. After messing around with the layers on the map I figured out the problem. The problem is one of the layers as soon as you take it off it will make the problem go away. So you have to delete the layer with the trail and recreations. Then re add them. Solved the problem and hasn’t happened anymore. I must admit customer service is amazing and fast but they couldn’t figure out the problem. But A+ customer service. They did offer some solutions but none of them worked but greatly appreciated. Overall this is the hunting map to get. It’s great for trying to figure out where property line start so you won’t trespass. I would highly recommend to any hunter. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ App.Version: 5.4.2

Great for location, too many crashes while trackingI really loved this app for both of the features in my title, but now only one works. When tracking, the app appears to close now when the iPhone screen is turned off. It may pick up the track by drawing a direct line from where it stopped tracking, to current location. Or the track will have been lost. Shucks. I really liked this app, I’m hoping the developers can figure out this issue. Perhaps it could be my iPhone, but since this is the only app with challenges, I’m guessing it’s not. UPDATE: developer responded with tip on how to recalibrate iPhone compass, which led to discovery that the app only had access to location services when using it. Changing this permission to “always” should allow it to work more consistently when it’s running in the background. So I’m happy, thanks for the response!.Version: 21.48.0

Deserves 5 stars but will only give it a four.Compared to HuntStand this map app is more user friendly on my iPhone 13 mini running iOS 16. Now what I love about this app is that it: 1. Shows the accurate property border lines. 2. The maps are pretty clear when zooming in. 3. The directional pointer is large and clear to see, making it easy to know which direction you are facing. 4. Easy to access offline maps and modes. 5. Using the folders for easy organization and sharing. Now here are what I think should be improved compared to HuntStand: 1. Monthly updates of property. I don’t know how HuntStand was able to do it but it was accurate when getting boots on the ground. Only downside is that there monthly updates of the property isn’t clear when zooming in. 2. Adding the ability to share your maps with your friends and showing them to also make edits. 3. Accuracy of location or slow updating to find my exact location. For some reason HuntStand does not have my location moving all over the place when using their maps they seem to have it pin pointed exactly where I am but when I use OnX location i see my location moving all over so it’s hard to get an exact location of where I am and where i place my pins for trail cameras and stands. Offline mode does work. But with full service and using both apps. Not sure why HuntStand would have a more accurate location service..Version: 22.39.0

Slow with blank spotsSo far I do like the app. I’m only in the trail period, but so far it’s been a little slow to respond and their are a lot of times their has been blank spots, in other words white spot blocks all over my map when I move in or out. Sometimes they go away after a very long time or they stay and I don’t know what is behind them. The layers have been ok, sometimes a little hard to follow. I wish the whole app would rotate, not just the map. I’m more the likely to get the app. But before I do I will be taking it out and doing some of my testing. But the biggest thing I’m worried about is the slow loading and big areas of white spots. I’m using the app on my iPad. Update: the white spots have improved a lot. Still a little slow in loading. Now it’s the speed it’s way off or it freezes. It mostly shows the speed faster then I’m going or it’s why below what I’m going. I still would like to see the whole app rotate. I like my iPad in landscape. It’s much easier for me to see it..Version: 4.22.0

Great app for hunters and copsHonestly the app is great. It takes a little time to figure out some things, like adding layers so that the user can view private land ownership. I really feel that this should be a default layer that you shouldn’t have to hunt for and add since it’s one of the most important features for determining whether customers purchase it or not. Once you figure out how to add it though, things are great. I had to contact customer service twice but fortunately those guys are on top of their game and helped me very quickly: once to figure out how to add the private land layer and once because I was just a dummy and tried to log in with the wrong email address. Overall, I’m really satisfied with the app. It’s useful for more than just hunting season too. I work in law enforcement and frequently have to contact land owners. This app makes traveling to or calling the county appraisal district obsolete. It’s really been a handy tool..Version: 20.48.0

Essential Hunting ToolI've used the one state app as a Premium user for my home state of Oregon for a few years. Recently, I upgraded to the Elite package and have used the Offline feature extensively on several out of state hunts this year. Backcountry is one thing but I may be searching out access near private lands close to town where suddenly I lose service and have found I am saving these maps no matter where I hunt. It could be me, but the opacity/transparency is darkened many times making it difficult to see my layers. That's my only issue. I suggest watching podcasts featuring the OnX guys to glean more info on getting the most from the app. After seeing one such episode, I learned about the layers for wildfires and timber harvests where you can see what year and whether it was a thinning or clearcut. This is vital info for hunters in the logging country of the PNW. Overall, this app has become an essential tool for all of my hunts..Version: 4.2.0

Life saverIf you hunt public land, big country, national forest, or if you just want to look and mark things on your own property this app os perfect! I downloaded a map of national forest and me and a buddy took it to the mountains (Miles and miles away from service) and we hiked 10 miles after we left the truck and came to a rock cliff. On the way back down we wanted to avoid the rock cliff in the dark so we swung right and accidentally went 2 draws over and started down the wrong hollow. Pulled out my phone (still no service) and looked at my downloaded map and walked to the truck which i had marked. Not only that but i was able to mark specific sign and leave notes on the map to remind me whats going on for next season to have a game plan. Highly recommend this app to everyone! Only downfall is i wish you could pay for more than 1 state, but not pay for 50 states when you might only need 1-4 states..Version: 4.27.1

Best hunting advice: get this app! This app will save you TONS of time in the field. Scout ahead for likely spots, mark your access points, track exactly how you got in/out of the field, save stands and tracking info for later, save maps for offline for when you’re out of coverage, track your most successful hunting areas, keep track of signs for game you didn’t have the appropriate gear for so you can get right back later, and about a thousand other things. I’ve shared favorite camping/hunting spots or signs for game I wasn’t hunting with other hunters I met in the field, I’ve helped people who didn’t use the app to become a bit less lost, and I’ve identified hazards (like an uncovered well!) that I could then easily report later to a ranger. Heck, I’m buying a new house and I’ve used it for things as simple as figuring out of the field near a prospective house was publicly or privately owned! OnX Hunt lets me scout more area more quickly and spend more time stalking or standing for game that can go on my plate. Now, does it do everything I wish it did? Nope. I can’t figure out how to take the layer off of the public lands I hunt. It’d be nice not to be staring at terrain through the green filter, sometimes. I’d also like to be able to say, “These spots are the only thing I care about,” and then have other things be shaded out to highlight where I was scouting. I hunt in TX, and TPWD has pdf maps for all of the public hunt zones they manage. It’d be great to have a link to that pdf in the description. (Those PDFs have all the means & methods info, along with other rules for that site.) Likewise, it’d be great if the description for public hunt zones didn’t just list deer, but all the other legal game, too, like hogs, hates, squirrels, etc. Bonus points if the app also listed legal methods to cut down having to cross-reference with other resources. And while it does list sunrise and sunset, I find myself constantly flipping back to my solunar calendar app to verify when peaks start/stop. Having that in OnX Hunt, too, would make it my one-stop app for all of my hunting info..Version: 20.42.1

App is starting to freeze upBeen using this app for hunting for the past few years its been great i pay for the elite membership and for the most part its gotten me to where i need to be i have been out in the backcountry and the app sometimes cant locate where you are at and just wont work even with offline maps this past elk season a buddy of mine who also has the elite membership couldnt even use his offline maps when we were out in the backcountry somehow mine was working and his wasnt. More recently iv noticed the app completely freezing I couldn’t zoom out or in it wouldnt be able to locate you i would have to basically restart the whole app and it would still have issues personally i dont really know if this app is worth the money anymore worked amazing when the app would work and i had zero issues I suggest checking out basemaps unless onx can figure these issues out i will probably be unsubscribing due to constant issues.Version: 23.3.0

Great Hunting App!I have used this app for the past two years on multiple hunts, in multiple states. Not only has it been great for learning boundaries and a good overall picture of my my various hunting areas, it’s also great for the areas that I’ve hunted for years. OnXMaps is useful for everything from planning my hunts to using it in the field. The tracking feature has worked great, pin pointing waypoints and marking my location have been super valuable. Even the off-grid maps without internet work great. Before this app there were questions as to where property boundaries were. This has made that much more clear and makes hunting new areas more comfortable. They are constantly adding new features and improving on existing ones. The guys in customer service have always responded quickly with helpful information. Great app! Keep up the good work!.Version: 4.19.0

Great app.Love the app for knowing where you are at and staying on the right property or public land. I sold my Garmin and bought a charge pack for my phone and haven't regretted it. Just a few ideas for developers if they read this. 1st please at a "navigation to" function. It's useable to navigate as is but it would be awesome to navigate to your truck for example and it would keep track of how far and what direction it was. And secondly, would be the ability to just measure a distance from your current location instead of having to mark two location. Also the ability to change units of measure (to yards for example). There have been a few times I've ranged an animal near an unmarked boundary and having to do the math to figure out what side of the boundary it is on is tough in the moment. Both of those are improvements and don't detract from the fundamental purpose. A few small improvements would make it 5 star..Version: 4.4.0

Question on feature options and applicationsI contacted OnX regarding a potential use feature and application issue, on how to actually accomplish a specific set of tasks I was assigned to complete for a work related field test project that had to be completed successfully in a timely manner. This particular assignment had very specific parameters that had to be met by exclusively using OnX to accomplish it. Failure to complete successfully meant failure to pass an entire field education training Id been working on for months. OnX personal promptly addressed my questions and returned an accurate answer to me that was a game changer. It applied to over 30 other people in the class too. Ironically the answer was not in favor of OnX, which makes it even more impressive. They were very honest and up front about what OnX could and couldn’t do..Version: 23.21.1

Excellent Customer ServiceI had an issue with a map layer covering the Satellite view on my maps as I zoomed in. It prevented me from seeing the landowner layer and land view details. I could figure out why I could see the satellite view when zoomed out - but lost it as I zoomed in. I searched the FAQ page, no help there. So I contacted Customer Service. They responded within minutes with the suggestion that I turn off the Forest Visitor Map layer. So, I did. It worked instantly. My maps went back to working to working as I had expected. I was afraid my problem description was too vague for them to diagnose the problem. Not so. The Customer Service agent knew exactly how to fix the issue and responded much quicker than I had expected. Well trained and experienced Customer Service agents are hard to find. But OnX has done a great job preparing its team. I really appreciate the team at OnX..Version: 20.50.0

Boy Scout Troop Master and an avid hunter.I have avoided more trouble and confusion on hunting trips thanks to the On X Hunt app. I can see exactly where I am before I take one step or drive over someone else’s real property. Property lines are not always marked with an easy to see fence. I have had the pleasure of calming down more than one person by asking if they were “Mr Smith, etc.,.” The registered land owner on the property tax records. That simple show of knowledge almost always commands a feeling of mutual respect. I want to make a friend for myself as a hunter. Plus, I want to put the best face forward for hunting in general. Legal and ethical hunting and the property rights of the various forms of land title or possession are two very different sets privileges of being a Citizen. They don’t have to be at odds with each other. Not when it is possible to know exactly where one property line ends and a new borderline begins..Version: 5.8.1

Good AppGreat app in the States, note quite there yet in Canada but still great..Version: 26.9.1

Would be 5 Stars if worked in CanadaWorks great for the 1 offline ore-downloaded map. But if you want to save anymore you have to upgrade but no Canadian option.Version: 4.2.0

AwesomeVery helpful.Version: 25.45.1

A+I used the onX App this fall for bird hunting in off grid areas in both Manitoba and Ontario. It performed flawlessly. With my iPhone attached to my quad I was able to consistently monitor my location while travelling the backcountry roads, and old logging and mining trails. Money well spent, and I highly recommend this product. 5 Star..Version: 25.45.1

OnxWorks great and helps to get big bucks.Version: 25.43.0

Best app for CanadaApp offers more detail for terrain and trials as well as links to hunting regulations and licensing for the area, something Canadian companies like BRMB doesn’t offer!.Version: 25.37.0

OutfitterAwsome.Version: 25.35.1

Not getting finedThis app shows a lot of roads and paths that most gps interfaces do not, even in locations that are very remote, helps keep you in your legal hunting zone, helps keep you from getting fines or confiscated property and game due to harvesting outside your designated zone, especially helpful when hunting in locations you are not familiar with, honestly I believe using this app for 13 dollars will save you money in fuel and potential accidental fines and will speed up your hunt if you happen to be under a strict schedule in cases where you may have only so much vacation time to use throughout the year and need ti get a hunt done as quick and cheap and efficiently as possible definitely worth the price.Version: 25.35.1

Canada eh!Works great but wish there was more layers and map support for the great white north. It’s still quite good..Version: 25.11.1

A bit to be desiredI’m sure it’s a great platform for USA customers, but it lacks features for Canada like downloadable 3D maps which you can get on iHunter and also a better integration of the hunting regulations. I can’t say I can depend solely on OnX just yet..Version: 25.29.0

Poor quality Canadian Map ResolutionAbsolutely love this app and all its features, very user friendly. However it would be nice to see some higher quality maps in Canada, Particularly Eastern. Poor resolution makes it difficult to follow paths and trails that are easily identified on higher quality maps..Version: 25.17.0

SpottingSo far so good new to it.Version: 24.49.1

Great appLove the app, only thing is I wish we could have 3D maps offline.Version: 24.45.2

Land researchIf you want to explore more and more your land and find out a specific area that might have a big buck, that’s the app. I spent all my season on it to be prepared and be ready that moment in the ground..Version: 24.39.1

Missing featuresNo 3D offline is a major shortcoming and not knowing the elevation when you drop a pin.Version: 24.43.0

Thank youAmazing app. Really helping with the trap line this yeast.Version: 23.45.1

Great tool.App is great. One thing I’d like to see is 3D offline maps..Version: 24.27.1

Good app…keep a back up plan!Really helps with planning, navigating and learning the hunting area you’re in! I hunt in Northern QC! I was using it when I got my moose this year pretty deep and late, went to get the gear and on the way back to finish dressing it, the App logged out by itself (pockets) at the worst time and couldn’t reconnect without wifi so it’s pretty much the only downfall to me! Even though good old GPS will always be on my side with extra batteries and the compas and map in my bag, I strongly recommend the app!.Version: 23.37.3

Works great but could be improvedAs a Canadian user, i have yet to see a property owner listed when land is private, would be great if it was.Version: 23.37.4
