Playing this game as a kid was a core memory for me. It's a fantastic way to introduce new generations to baseball and get families involved in sports together. My favorite character is Kenny Kawaguchi; his use of a wheelchair is a great example of the game's focus on inclusion. For a modern re-release, adding cloud save functionality is essential. This would allow players to access their game progress across all their devices, from an iPhone to an iPad. Additionally, releasing a version for Mac computers would open the game up to a wider audience. Additionally, this game needs to tweak to be more touch responsive Ultimately, Backyard Baseball '01 remains a delightful trip down memory lane. While it could use a few modern tweaks like cloud saves and better touch responsiveness, its timeless charm, inclusive characters like Kenny Kawaguchi, and simple, fun gameplay make it a must-play for anyone who wants to revisit their childhood or share the joy of baseball with a new generation.

I still own my copy on disc from all those years ago. But being able to play this on my phone now is nuts. It’s the same game that it was then and now I can take it anywhere. It’s a shame that 3 of the players aren’t in the game but they’re actually replaced with some solid created players. Also I wish the old player baseball cards for mlb players were still in the game, but maybe that was a copyright issue. The old bugs I’ve found are in my season mode the created player “Chase Walton” I think, has no stamina lose when pitching. His stamina goes down very slow and resets each inning to 100%. Other than that the controls are fine and the game runs smooth. And maybe it’s my memory but I could have swore Pablo was stronger and some of the others were a little faster, Kenny Loften and Pete wheeler in particular. But all in all I’m glad this classic lives on

2 iPhone specific fixes I would recommend to the Devs: 1. The iPhone “home” bar at bottom of the screen should fade out in full screen apps like this. Currently it does not, it is constant and blocking a portion of the game. (iPhone 11, iOS 18.1) 2. I understand this is not a 16:9 game but if you’re sticking a stationary non-changing background image behind the game, players now have to worry about screen burn-in, especially when playing the game for long periods of time. It just seems like this was an after thought and I would prefer it be black or animated or fade out every so often so I’m not worried about screen burn-in. The game itself is just like I remember, but really well optimized for the iPhone! I honestly cant believe you guys removed the Oakland from the Athletics. I’m sure MLB made you do that, but it breaks my heart no city even wants to be associated with my favorite team and this greedy owner. 💚💛 Anyway, great game, I loved playing when I was young and great job by the devs to bring it to iPhone in its practically original form!

Glad to finally see Backyard Baseball 2001! Can’t wait for all the other Backyard Sports to be released. I’ve been playing BYB ‘97 and really like ‘01. I did notice the strike zone is tight on ‘01, and the ball will be a strike if it touches the edge of the strike zone unlike ‘97. Hitting seems easier on ‘01. I like how you can speed up batting practice after you hit the ball. I also like the sound notifying you of a power up earned. It would be nice to have an explanation before the game starts as to why a certain player gets skill points taken away or added (ex: playing against rival team, etc.) Overall great game. Wish there was an online mode for all of the BYS app games.

A great option for the mobile version would be to have a button on the right hand side of the screen to swing, instead of having to touch inside the batters box. Your thumb gets in the way of trying to see the pitch. Additionally for switching stances you could have the button on left hand side. I don’t even use stances because I accidentally swing if I try. I think this would improve the mobile experience greatly. Otherwise love the game and great work getting this on a mobile platform

The game is great, brings back very fond memories from my childhood. The change over to IOS is a little buggy. My biggest issue is when hitting, I’ll tap the screen to swing the back but it doesn’t register. It’s frustrating when that happens, as well as when fielding, I’ll tap on the green spot where the ball is going. The fielder will be in the position and will still drop the ball. Maybe that’s something I don’t remember much from my childhood but if they could add a button on the side of the screen to make batting easier that’d be great

Really enjoying playing this game. A couple things to fix would be 1) during a pop fly, if you have any runners on base and have them run to the next base, the game won’t let you have them turn around, even by mistake until the ball is caught. Makes it a little frustrating. 2) The strike zone is inconsistent. I’m playing on medium mode and pitches that are on the outside are called strikes. Other than that, I’ve really enjoyed the experience.

I loved the Backyard Franchise. I had and played most of them as a kid. So seeing this game come back was awesome. However, the game has at least one fatal flaw, “SCUMMERROR” (3,2101 Out of array pointers). I keep getting this error no matter how many different teams I start or delete. It’s getting to the point where I don’t want to keep trying to load up a game. The developers need to patch this ASAP. It’s a great game aside from that.

Backyard Baseball 2001 is pure nostalgia and still an absolute blast to play. The mix of real MLB legends like Derek Jeter and Cal Ripken Jr. with a cast of lovable neighborhood kids makes every game feel like a Saturday morning cartoon. The mechanics are simple but satisfying, the commentary is hilarious, and the ballparks are packed with quirky charm. Pablo Sanchez is still the undisputed GOAT. Whether you’re replaying it for the memories or discovering it for the first time, this game nails fun in its purest form. A timeless classic.

The game itself was really fun and had generally the same feeling that it had before. But, after I finished my season and headed toward the playoffs, this SCUMMERROR appeared on my screen and kicked me out of the game. I tried again and the same thing happened. I had to start a new season, I haven’t made it to the playoffs yet but they need to fix that bug first. Everything else was really fun though.

The game plays exactly like I remember, so much fun to play! However, if you do season play and get into the playoffs you’ll get a lot of in-game errors, and the game kicks you out. I’m currently stuck at the last pitch of the League Championship, but I can’t finish the game, because when I go to leave the end-game screen, an error pops up.

For the next update, please add current playing players as kids too, like ohtani, Tatis, and Aaron judge and you can pick country’s to play with like my home country, South Korea or America, or Japan, like country’s taht play baseball. Also big papi, Trevor Bauer, babe Ruth, Mickey mantle, mason miller, and my favorite because my home land is Korea, Ha seong Kim. But thank you creators for making this incredible game.

After first playoff series in season mode I get an error, like that’s the end of the game they cared to program. Lazy? I paid $5 for this, same for 97. And even dropped 10 on the steam and couldn’t make it work. Love the game but it’s too easy too, even on hard with no indicator. Head to head online would be a nice addition.

So I was playing the game right and I decided to try out batting practice like how I used to do when I played on PC but when I tried to hit it would not work and would be bugged out no matter which player I picked please fix this soon devs I love y'alls game and wanna se backyard baseball 03 added love y'all.

Great game just how I remembered as a kid. However, when I select a pitch and try to deliver a pitch it won’t let me, same when I’m at bat, I’ll try to swing at a pitch and it doesn’t swing. I’m constantly having to back out of the app and go back to fix this bug but it happens over 10 times a game…

Backyard baseball 2001 is a amazing game but when you play it for a while is gets to a point where it says out of array pointers no matter how many times you delete or restart it other than that great game devs please fix this now

It’s good and all just like the original one, but there’s some mistakes, 1. There making bad calls, such as and outside ball, called it a strike. 2. There was a ball on the ground and was bouncing, it went away from the screen, and they called it a home run instead of a double. Please fix the mistakes.

Please add controller support for all Backyard Sports games. Thank you! Love your games! Also, allow manual tag up, because it’s annoying to have double plays from the other team when your player’s halfway or more to the next base.

This game is amazing, but it’s simply too easy. I have the difficulty set to hard, and the computer still makes numerous errors and poor decisions in the field. Can we please get a mod to increase the difficulty!?!?

Use to love this game growing up! A couple things though, playing on a massive phone, it’s tough that you have to touch the square everytime to hit - a good product update would be to just tap the screen.. Additionally, the game speed could be quicker.

It is so fun to play this game is my favorite you will love it but when you first play it will be hard for you to hit when ever you get better then you will hit the ball some times I love this game Peblo is my favorite player he is the best.

For some reason whenever I click the season mode team page the game reloads the intro and kicks me back to the club house, and no matter how many times I restart the game it keeps happening. Please fix.

Purchased 97 version on my PlayStation love it as good as it was 20+ years ago, I hope you bring the 01 version to PlayStation love it on the phone, will be even better on the big screen !

Game is just like I remember! Game has crashed a couple of times but overall game play is just how I remember the original. Pete stealing bases and Pablo smashing dingers! Crash says out of Array Pointers. Doing it almost every batter now. 1st 4 games no issues.

In the playoffs I had my second strike and hit a foul and kept getting out that happened a bunch of times but other than that it’s a pretty good game that you can play on road trips or something

This has been a great game so far. Really bringing back memories of playing as a kid. I hope they are able to update it and get Ken Griffey Jr back in the game. Also as of yesterday I have been crashing a bunch….. something about a SCUMMERROR. It is making the game unplayable.

Playing on an iPhone, it’s difficult to line up my outfielders to catch a fly ball. Also the players don’t seem to follow where I want them to throw. Enjoy the nostalgia but wish I were playing this on a PC

This games great and I literally cant believe it originally came out in 2000! I like its newer graphics and love the mlb players and I’m glad you guys could fix the glitches!

Would make the game a lot easier and simpler to control and there’s a lot of open space on screen so why not

The game works great! I know they will fix the little bugs but I wish they could get KGJ to agree to being on the game as he was my favorite player growing up.

This game is extremely fun and really well made and would definitely get 5 stars from me. The reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 is because there is insane match fixing some times. I play with hard settings and swing locator. Every once in a while I will run into a pitcher and the swing locator will be just barely in the strike zone. I can understand that sometimes by chance things like this happen where it will be a small chance that a strike will be thrown and it manages to be a strike. But three in a row sometimes even more than that is insane and it is pretty annoying to go up against. Another match fixing issue it sometimes when playing, the game really wants the other team to score so no matter what kind of pitch you throw a .250 0 for 3 with a literal 1 in the batting stat just scores a 650 ft home run. This happened multiple times because my suspicion grew so I restarted that pitch by refreshing the app on my phone and this batter kept hitting insane impossible home runs. This game is very fun but can also be incredibly rage inducing.

Backyard baseball 01 is ok it’s fun to see actual baseball players in the game but it’s just not like backyard baseball 97 it’s gameplay is just not as smooth but if I wanted to Stendhal my money on something at least it will go to a good cause just a thought as a fan would love to see backyard golf now I know it’s not the first sport you think of but here me out when you begin you pick your golfer and caddie out of the kids may be throw some pro golfers in with the rest for quick play some holes could be Petrovich pastures and Phillips field you can choose between your clubs a driver a spoon a 7 iron and your putter and with special powers like robot ball were when you putt it always makes it in the hole your announcers of course sunny day and the legend himself the ‘’lizard’’ chuck Mathew’s as a young fan who finally gets some family friendly games to play thank you playground productions even though 01 is not your best game good job. 👏

Literally I want nothing more than to be able to relive my childhood by playing all of the backyard sports games. However, these apps are not giving me the excitement I felt then. The year is 2025, to play these games, the controls and layout should reflect that. There’s several games in the App Store that use better layouts that make more sense than what is being put out on these apps. Please modernize the controls. I’ve purchased every app you’ve put out and would love to continue to support this franchise, but please for the love of god figure out how to make the controls better.

The hitting mechanic is tough as your fingers get in the way of seeing the timing. Would love the option of a hit button in the bottom left corner instead of having to block my own view. Also in audio controls would really really love the ability to turn off the heckling audio. I like the game sounds but the repetitive lines really get old fast. I think a few small updates and this game would have a lot of playability.

The game was working perfectly since I bought it last week. It took some time getting used to the touch aspect of the game but the feel of it is just as I remembered. Unfortunately now the game crashes giving you a "scumerror" and closes the app. Can't continue playing the season I have saved as the error just keeps reappearing when I try to resume the season. Don't feel like starting a new one yet. Hope they fix this soon.

I have played a few games on mobile so far. The screen of the actual game only takes about half of the screen.. also it takes about 45 mins for a 6 inning game.. it’s a fun game though and it’s only going to get better. The nostalgia is there and the style is smooth, everything you loved about the OG Backyard baseball on the pc is there for mobile. I’m very excited to see where you guys and gals take this game. Thank you for bringing back my childhood. I would recommend making it full screen on mobile..

The negative reviews were mostly about slow gameplay. I assumed that was an older version and they meant glitchy or whatnot. Not the case. It’s just a SLOW game to play. The delay between every pitch is like 5 seconds. Not bad but if you’re looking for a FAST/quick game to play, don’t buy this. Really they need an option for “fast play” that cuts out all delays, animations (bat twirling, walk up, etc). I mean, it’s really neat, but just way too slow for me.

The gameplay is great and reminds me of my childhood… However, I was only able to get through 7 1/2 games before the app had a major crash and now I can’t continue my season. It is very frustrating because I shouldn’t have to have issues in a game like this. It needs to be fixed, but it doesn’t seem like it will be. This is an issue. I’m seeing all over social media so I know it is not just me.

The players constantly repeat the same lines over and over “we want a batter not a broken ladder” . You need to have the option to mute these sounds. You can mute music, commentary, background sounds, or all sounds but you can’t mute these stupid comments from the players. It’s obnoxious how often they chatter in a game.

It’s very frustrating that this game was released as a paid app knowing we would all buy it. The game runs worse than it did on windows 98. The controls don’t make sense for iOS and the game often bricks itself when the ball gets stuck or I get “scumerror” and it crashes. Optimize the game or get rid of it and refund the people who were excited enough to pay you.

I want to love this game so badly, idk if it’s my phone screen or what but trying to swing at pitches is driving me insane. I’ll click to swing and they won’t swing. This has happened since I downloaded it. It’s super annoying. Other than that it’s awesome super nostalgic, but any suggestions to getting that fixed please let me know.

I love this game it’s definitely bringing back some nostalgia. However recently my game has started giving me an error message and crashing and I can’t continue to the next thing. Error message says: [34,131] array read 35[6][0] out of bounds, dim [0….5] [0…3] this message comes up and then the game crashes and I’m back to the last thing I did.

I absolutely adore the game. I have it installed on my PC because it’s incredibly enjoyable to play. However, playing the game on my iPhone 16 Max with its small screen makes the game significantly more challenging for me. If the developers could release a patch update that enables a full-screen mode, it would be a fantastic addition.

When you get to the playoffs , this error message appears after winning games . The game crashes and then picks up at the last batter of the previous game . There’s no way to advance it just keeps reverting back to the last batter of the game. Update : new update that supposedly fixes this error allowed me to complete the game in question but then happened again as I got to the last out of the next game .

This glitch needs to be fixed, the glitch in question is when you are playing season mode randomly SCUMMERROR will pop up and make you get kicked out and have to restart. It makes the season mode unplayable because you cannot avoid it.

Love the game…just like it was back in the day. Running into an issue where the game crashes on because “Insufficient Array Points.” After about the 12th game I’ve played on it’s been happening quite frequently. Hope it’s just a bug issue that can be fixed soon!

The Cleveland Guardians were the Cleveland INDIANS in 2001, i don’t know why BYB would make an senseless decision here to appease the smaller percent of customers/population that is radical Leftists, if this was BYB 2025 it definitely isn’t an issue. this is just altering a great game and accuracy of 2001 teams and logos for no legitimate reason. guess BYB forgot that Woke is dead and is the only factor from is being a 5⭐️ rating

Really fun and nostalgic experience but if you’re like me and play season mode you may want to wait for a patch. I can’t get past game 6/7 on any season without getting a SCUMM ERROR that crashes that season mode, rendering it unplayable. Happened on iPad and iPhone. I know they’re working on it!

The game brings back the nostalgia. But it lack everywhere else. The game moves slower than the original, you nerfed Pablo and others. Just make it like the original and stop changing things. Last I checked it was the Cleveland Indians in 01 not the guardians. Stop with the woke. Recreate the original for mobile

I opened up the game and have to watch a long loading screen every single time, when I was batting I didn’t know where to click because there were no buttons, also the pitching I did not understand because there also where no buttons. Overall, I regret my purchase.

I'm so excited to have this game available on mobile. When I first started playing, everything was great. The last few days, an error has rendered the game unplayable. It says out of array pointers and mentions a SCUMMERROR. I hope to have this issue fixed soon, because it's been a ton of fun.
