An extraordinarily poor an ideaHow is it in 2025 anybody is deploying such poorly designed apps? First of all a stupid reason to force me to now have two separate apps for AMEX. And then after I’ve been forced to do that, I cannot filter by the options which allow me to use my benefits. In the past, I would search for a hotel in a city, and there would be selection buttons where I could select the hotel collection. And if sold out it would show up and say sold out. Now, as an example, I search Syracuse and there are zero options for fine hotels or hotels collection. So, does that mean those hotels are sold out and so doesn’t present? Or does it mean that there are none in the collection in Syracuse? Well, now, after having to download a second app, which never went through any usability testing, I have to call into the call center to speak to an agent who also wasn’t able to answer that question. Unusable GarbageThis travel portal “app” is not an app. It’s a redirector to website but worse because it logs you out constantly. I got a text message, went to my texts to reply 3 words, hopped back in the app and it logged me out for “5 minutes of inactivity” … it was like 10 seconds of inactivity. Annoying!I’ve used this app a lot since getting my Amex Platinum as I am planning a major trip. While the deals Amex has are fantastic the app is getting on my nerves. It times out very quickly. If you pause to look up information like your loyalty number it will time out. Log back in? Well no matter where you were you will have to start over. Then it will freeze in certain spots. While trying to book a flight it kept freezing when I tried to enter my known traveler number. It would notify me that it was timing out but I couldn’t click on continue because the keyboard was frozen above the notification (this could definitely be an IOS problem but it happened over and over). Keeps logging you outIt logs you out for inactivity after a few minutes the same way the credit card amex app does, and you lose all your progress and have to start over searching for hotels every time. Filtering by hotel name is also tedious — you can’t search by city then filter in a separate search field, you have to put the exact hotel as your destination. You also can’t book multiple rooms of different types in the same transaction. Filters such as “all inclusive” don’t work at all. The only way to use this app is to just scroll through all the hotels in a city. There’s also no map view that I could find, and the average cost per night multiplied with the number of nights doesn’t add up to the total cost. Yikes — not ready for prime time!!!Yikes, this latest App from AmEx is absolutely not ready for primetime. While their primary credit card app has always been a leader in its industry, the Amex Travel app falls far short of what you’ve come to expect from American Express.
A few examples:
* The app requires repeated logins as you move from the logged in state in the American Express card app to the Amex Travel app, and then even more when the experience switches to a web view. Someone needs to do a much more thoughtful job about designing the experience so that a single logged in session can be passed in the background — without users having to keep logging in repeatedly.
* Literally while filling in a form in the app, it timed me out because my “session has been idle for 5 minutes.” More problems with poorly executed login and session management.
* Features that work perfectly well in the mobile web experience are incomplete in the app. For example: displaying card travel benefits works for only one of my multiple cards, while the others display, essentially, an “under construction” message.
Just an okay attempt. I wouldn’t launch an app in this state of incompletion. I suggest hitting pause, getting it right, and then relaunching an improved app..ThornsworldVersion: 1.7.0
40% MARKUPDon’t use this app! I recently booked a hotel stay through American Express Travel and was shocked to discover I was charged dramatically more than the hotel actually charged for the stay.
American Express billed my card $572, but when I checked out, the hotel’s final folio showed the true total cost was $415. That is a $157 difference — nearly 40% higher than the actual hotel price.
I contacted American Express customer service and was transferred three times. Every representative insisted Amex Travel “does not charge extra fees” and could not explain why their charge was significantly higher than the hotel’s documented amount. No one opened an investigation and no one provided a real answer.
I have documentation showing both the Amex charge and the hotel receipt. This was not taxes, incidental holds, or a misunderstanding — the hotel confirmed that $415 was the full cost of the stay.
Customers use American Express Travel assuming they are getting transparent pricing and cardmember benefits. Instead, I was charged far above the merchant’s actual price while being told there were no added fees.
Until this is resolved, I will not use Amex Travel again. I strongly recommend travelers compare prices directly with the hotel before booking through the Amex portal..LB96797Version: 1.8.0
Terrible, Lots of bugsHeavy user of Amex Travel. Had been putting off using new app since launch last fall and still just booking my travel thru regular Amex app. Downloaded travel app yesterday. Been a disaster. Prices wildly inaccurate for the hotel I was trying to book for yesterday. Ended up calling to make booking; was on hold for 21 minutes before being able to speak with agent to make booking over the phone. Uggh. WORST BOOKING EXPERIENCEI have been an American Express Platinum Card Member for over three years, and this booking experience was extremely frustrating.
The terms and eligibility requirements were available on the website, but they were not clearly disclosed in the Amex app at the time of booking. I booked the hotel through the app in good faith, expecting the Platinum Hotel Credit, as there was no visible indication before purchase that the property required a two-night minimum or that the credit would not apply.
After the booking, I later discovered that the website does include this disclosure, which highlights a clear inconsistency between the app and the web experience. This lack of transparency directly affected my decision to book.
I spent a considerable amount of time speaking with multiple representatives and supervisors, but the response focused solely on the existence of the terms rather than the fact that they were not presented in the app during checkout.

Close but no cigarThis is light years better than the previous Amex Travel website but still falls short in many ways from what one would expect of a “world class” credit card and travel company. Why is there no map search or any ability to view hotel locations on an embedded map without clicking out of the app? Software BugsI used the App to look for flight booking for 2 people one time and ever since then the App is stuck in perpetual 2 people search mode. I make sure each search is for one person but still result still shows 2. The only way out of this is to edit your search from the results page otherwise you won’t be able to purchase ticket for single person.

Barely UseableThis app really struggles to have basic functionality. In order to book travel, it opens a browser. It logs you out, even if you are in the middle of searching for travel. Re-logging in and not enough filtersIt’s nice to have an app instead of having to use the mobile website but it is a hassle to have to login every time I go out of the app for more than a minute or two. Also having to use an OTP every single time. Then I have to restart my search.
Also can’t filter hotels by whether they have breakfast or not which is a major consideration and typical for hotel booking sites make it hard.

It’s like they fired QAThis has to be one of the worst apps I’ve experienced in the last five years. When you scroll it has a habit of jumping to the top. It regularly logs you out while actively using it. When you want to see a room’s images, you can’t because tapping a photo takes you to some other set of photos.
