GPS Diagnostic: Satellite Test Customer Service

Literally one of the most useful apps I have ever used. My iPhone X was having horrible GPS issues under an iOS 11.4 install. I suspected a hardware fault after this app proved the phone was not pulling <any> GPS satellites and was instead relying on cell tower triangulation. After I did all the (failed) usual internet tips of resetting network settings, resetting privacy settings, toggling cell signal, etc. I thought I had proved the hardware fault. Went to Apple store to shove it under their nose. But there was a freak break-in the night before and the store was locked shut. Desperate and dejected, I went back home and decided to do a full wipe and reinstall for giggles, thinking nothing would change. Lo and behold, GPS diagnostic shows multiple satellite tracks after the wipe and reinstall (iOS 11.4). And a full on lock while standing outside using Google maps. Moral of the story: this can’t necessarily PROVE the exact nature of your hardware or software problem, but it can flag for you whether or not your GPS is actively tracking satellites. Knowing is half the battle. From there, it’s up to you to guess and check where your exact problem lies. Still saved my life because there was no other way to get this critical satellite feedback data. Now I don’t have to go to (another) Apple Store tomorrow! 5 stars.

Used this app to determine that my internal gps antenna/software weren’t functioning correctly. When any mapping software was open they often didn’t seem to accurately display my exact location and any movement shown I was inaccurately spinning or wrong streets or direction etc etc. This awesome little app was extremely useful as it displayed whether I was actually connected to gps satellites and I discovered that I wasn’t. After firmly pressing on my phone where the internal antenna was located would reconnect a loose antenna and viola, a refresh of the app displayed correctly connection and functioning and my navigation apps instantly worked better then I thought they were supposed to to work to begin with. THIS IS AN AWESOME GPS DIAGNOSTICS TOOL and will be a permanent addition to my utilities folder of apps. I cannot say any bad about it at all.

This App is Fabulous! Apple refuses to update their Apple Store / Apple Care troubleshooting diagnostics to include ANY GPS Functionality. If you have such a problem they will tell you that you have No Problem. They will either deny it (Because it passes their tests ) or suggest you buy a new phone (sighting their diagnostics do not find ANY problem with your GPS). With this diagnostic, I was able to prove the issue to Apple in seconds, but as my phone was out of warranty it was obvious they weren’t going to do anything about it. Tell anyone you know about this diagnostic especially if their phone is under warranty! In my case I was able to repair the iPhone 6 hardware issue by reconnecting the “F” antenna of which one side had come loose during the defective battery replacement procedure.

The GPS Diagnostic app is nothing short of phenomenal. It’s incredibly refreshing to find an app that not only meets but far exceeds expectations. Where do I even start? First off, the user interface is clean and intuitive. The app is surprisingly easy to use but doesn’t compromise on the depth of its features or settings. Navigating through the options feels like a breeze, thanks to thoughtful design choices. What sets this app apart is the exceptional in-app help and documentation. Far beyond what one would expect, it offers just the right amount of information, in just the right place, at just the right time. The attention to detail in providing this support is truly remarkable and way above the prevailing standard. Overall, GPS Diagnostic is a shining example of what an app should be: functional, user-friendly, and respectful of its users’ intelligence. I couldn’t recommend it more highly.

I've long been a fan of Garmin devices but was frustrated by the "just trust it's working" nature of the Garmin GLO 2 bluetooth GPS receiver. Garmin offers no status application to confirm device operation and basic navigation parameters. All you get is single LED on the device. This app is FANTASTIC. It works well with the GLO 2 and provides the information that adds confidence to the device. It's also great for built-in GPS, as it provides all critical navigation information. Most of the time, I just want to know the coordinates and altitude. All of this information is front and center in this app. The app makes it simple to copy and paste coordinates. It doesn't require a login or internet connectivity - a great weakness of many "full featured" gps/navigation apps. Simplicity is a huge benefit of this app. This app is worth every penny.

I had to buy an external gps to get things like google maps working on my phone. Apple refused to acknowledge my issue was a bad gps chip. This app worked flawlessly to show the Apple Genius that my issue was indeed hardware and not software. Connected via the phone GPS — no satellites found. Connected via a Garmin external GPS and suddenly fantastic satellite strength. Absolutely fantastic customer support from the development team as well who helped me with the diagnostic.

As advertised, the app shows you detailed data on your devices GPS functionality. After a few days of seemingly terrible gps, this app helped me troubleshoot. My location was only being reported by cell, WiFi, and Bluetooth. No satellite connections for gps. Luckily it was not the chip, after restarts and resetting network settings, a factory reset finally fixed the issue. This app confirmed it by showing i now has signal from gps satellites.

I have been having issues with my IPhone 8 GPS. Never seems to know where it is. I have tried everything. I downloaded this app and boom...I found the culprit. Unplugged the phone sees all satellites. Plugged into the infotainment system on my 2015 Subaru Legacy, immediately shows "no satellites". Very odd but now I know the problem. I verified the same behavior on my iPad as well and in 2 different cars with the same radio. Excellent app.

If you want a good, solid, under-the-hood look at your GPS hardware, and do some Location Services troubleshooting, this is the app for you. Data is presented in a very clear and comprehensive way. You can reset the GPS from within the app, too. Loaded it on my iPhone 8 while a friend with a 6 did the same, and screen grabbed to show that mine saw multiple satellites, while the 6 was proven defective— no satellite bars. Highly recommended!

Reason I bought app: iPhone 6 no longer had working GPS - wanted to see if it was a hardware vs. software/iOS update issue I sent an email to the developer to see if he knew of any possible solutions, after seeing there was no satellites being detected by my phone. Less than a day later, I got an incredibly thorough answer explaining the GPS functionality on my iOS, details on similar incidents among his other GPS diagnostic app users, and some possible troubleshooting solutions. In all, straightforward app that promises what it delivers for just a few bucks, but, more importantly, above and beyond responsiveness from the developer (with an issue that wasn’t even directly related to the app I purchased from him).

App worked as described. Was instrumental in diagnosing the issue I was having with gps signal. Simple easy to use interface. Had a question about possible cause of my problem, used the option to contact developer via email. Got a reply within 24 hours with exactly the info I needed. Would highly recommend. Now I can get my phone fixed, saved me a costly replacement.

This is a great tool for ensuring my other GPS-based apps are giving me valid information. It is worth the price many, many times over! Thanks so much for your perseverance in creating this! I wish I had had this app back in my earlier days when I was flying Rescue missions and working as a flight test engineer. Invaluable!! Thanks again!!

My iPhone 6 started having gps problems resulting in navigation apps giving approximate location. Most of the time it shows me off the road. Annoying to say the least. This app showed my GPS had a signal problem. “ GPS on “ “ no signal “. Was able to install a new gps/WiFi antenna. Long story short, my iPhone gps works again. Thanks to this app I got it sorted right away.

I purchased a Bluetooth connected GPS receiver from Dual and I was having trouble figuring out if the receiver was communicating with satellites or not. The app from Dual is absolutely worthless. By using this app, I was able to see live satellite connectivity and confirm everything was working properly. There is a lot of other specific gps data available through this app.

I successfully used this app to confirm the quality of the reception of satellite data. Months later I find myself in Japan on the Shinkansen “bullet” train wondering how fast we are traveling. This app provided the answer. In case you are wondering, we were traveling about ~275 km/hr!

My wife’s iPhone 6 was having difficulties using turn by turn navigation. I went through all of the usual steps recommended by Apple and finally downloaded this app to confirm that my GPS was not seeing any satellites. Replaced the Wi-Fi antenna on her iPhone and now everything is working perfectly. Thanks for a great app.

Was looking for an app that would help determine GPS Satélites, WiFi Location, Bluetooth and cell triangulation. This app checks most of my boxes and it’s great when performing location testing with different hardware. It helps diagnose issues with connected devices that rely on gps as wel as FEM2Cell position for businesses that rely on good communication.

I bought this out of curiosity and I’m very happy with it. Gives you a ton of information about what your phone is actually doing. Great support when I tried using my new iPhone X to map my progress on a commercial flight (no, apparently new iPhones won’t do it any more)

For whatever reason, the GPS in my iPhone 6s stops working whenever there is an iOS Update (starting with iOS11). This app has been terrific at helping ensure that when Waze, Google Maps, etc start showing a lack of signal or incorrect location, that it’s an Apple/iOS issue and not a hardware (broken GPS Antenna) issue.

This app allowed me to confirm a hardware problem with the GPS antenna. I didn’t want to dismantle my phone unless I was sure it was a hardware issue. With the app running I could slap the phone into my palm and see intermittent satellite signals come and go. That knowledge plus a $3 part kit has me good to go for a few more years!

Had a problem with navigation apps on my iPhone intermittently working and this helped diagnose the problem as software related. Saved me buying a new phone. The Apple Genius Bar people were very impressed as well. They said they were going to put it on their phones as well.

My iPhone 6S Plus was getting erratic distance and pace readings with multiple running apps. This isolated the problem to the iPhone’s GPS. Apple support had me reset the phone and reload firmware and iOS (from iTunes and a PC). That was painful, solved the problem. Great app if you suspect GPS problems.

I believe this is the only simple app around to check GPS satellite acquisition. Gives lots of good data about accuracy activity and allows a reset of the GPS receiver. Simple, useful, and still supported well by the developer. Definitely worth the small cost.

Let’s me see my actual coordinates and provides useful diagnostics on how my phone is determining my location. I like having access to raw data from the sensors on my phone and this gets me better information than any of the other apps I have seen.

I was looking for an app to give me the raw data from the GPS. I used to have one but it was abandoned by the developer and no longer worked. This app dose more than I want but hey I like it especially because the info for elevation can be set to feet instead of meters so I don’t need to convert.

With the recent ending of CDMA as a time source for NTP servers we had to purchase new units that sourced time via GPS. Running into signal issues this app helped me locate a area where GPS signal was attainable. It’s a simple app but did everything I needed perfectly.

I’ve had this app for about 10 minuets. It’s exactly what I need for my DJI Spark that I haven’t even bought yet. Tells me everything I need to know about the quality of the GPS status including how many satellites it sees and the signal strength. Well worth the cost.

Have had issues with maps lately on my iPhone 8; very glitchy and seems off to precise location. Downloading this app seems to have helped a lot in resolving the issue.

Inside my house 15 feet away from the window this shows I pick up 4 + Satellites. It’s nice to know whatever map app I use I can tell I’m getting a correct reading (location). I recommend this app.

I wish the developer had made it clear in the app description that while multiple navigation systems are supported (GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, and QZSS) by iPhone the app can't display which satellite is which due to Apple’s limitations. Consider this also a request to Apple to open this data up to developers, people are interested.

Great product. Helped me diagnose some gps questions relating to a website we were developing. Very simple to use. Wish the Lodestone graph had one more bar to see when I have a 5th satellite.

This is perfect! I have questions about how to get the best accuracy and what ‘the best accuracy’ means in terms of limits to the technology to the public. Would appreciate a few paragraphs about this to make it clearer. Thanks for a great product!

With this tool you can see whether your GPS is still working or not. Great tool as iPhone 6 has some issues and you need to reset network settings once in a while to solve these

This is the only app I know of that shows the status of the GPS constellation it sees. It does a great job and certainly makes it interesting when the constellation drops out and Apple Maps starts to wonder. It is a must have!

This app is a gem. Lately I have been burned on a number of apps here and of course Apple, one of the richest companies in the world, makes it nearly impossible to get a refund. This app delivers and is worth the money.

This is a great diagnostic tool. I gave it five stars. There is one feature I’d love to see extended: the sat data has four signal vertical bars: 1, 2, 3, 4 and greater. It would be even better if it could horizontally compress and expand to a per-PRN graph with Az-El-S/N data. Great app! 😊

A must for drone fliers, especially DJI pilots who need to see how strong the gps is for following and because you often get the “can’t update home point, signal not strong enough” message. Thank you!

I was troubleshooting a GPS issue in my car with Apple CarPlay. This app clearly identified it wasn’t my phone, as when I am not hooked up to the vehicle the GPS is spot-on. Amazing app.

There are several apps that claim to provide GPS diagnostic capabilities. I think I looked at all of the others and they all fell far short of what they claimed. This app performs perfectly!

Ehh aren’t there more apps like this? Without this app, my 2021 iPhone will not show me as much basic GPS info as my Garmin handheld unit, circa 2000. Get this to unlock the power of your phone’s incredible GPS!

David has this app working fully on the iPhone 11 now. Now if the other GPS intense apps (Apple Maps, Waze, ...) developers could catch up that’d be swell for all of us!

Now I know why navigation says to turn in 50 feet after I was supposed to have turned!

Easy to use and not more complex than necessary. Great for sending my location.

Love it use it all the time. Let’s me know if I can trust my gps reading at the moment, also use it to measure my air speed while flying.

Just needs to add a simple text field count of the number of satellites in view, and the number of satellites locked, then it will be perfect. 4 stars until then!

All I wanted was an app to display the direct GPS data from my iPad and this works perfectly. Simple app that does its job.

After a few days of use, this APP seems to be providing EXACTLY what I was looking for, including “where the heck am I”🤷🏻‍♂️🤡 and how many satellites are being used at any given point to substantiate that. Thank-you

This app has solved my problem of poor GPS tracking when running or biking. Before, I would often lose the signal, either right at the start of my outing, or somewhere along the route. Now I start GPS Diagnostic before starting out, and wait until I get four green bars. Then the iPhone/watch location services have locked onto the satellite signal, and GPS tracking is good.

Display good informations with a pleasant interface. Now that the iPhone uses Galileo in addition to Navstar and Glonass, developer should find a way to show what kind of satellites is in use specifically.

I bought this app only to see if my Garmin GLO bluetooth receiver worked with this app. It works very well on showing GPS Satellite status. The app would get five stars if it had a battery Status Indicator, and Bars showing GPS and GLONAS satellite bars and strength signals, and an accuracy in Meters. Garmin does not make a status app for the Garmin GLO, this would fill the need that Garmin does not provide.

Very useful app. I really like that it shows your Lat & Lon!! I’m not sure why but it was the only GPS app that worked on the plane! It was nice to see the ground speed and altitude Update - for some reason it no longer works?? I know my GPS is still working because all my apps that rely on it still work perfectly but according to this app it’s not receiving a signal from any satellites! It worked good for years and it just quit . Doesn’t display anything. Tried all the usual things . Restarted my phone checked for updates nothing helped.
