Learn to Read Music with Note Rush! Note Rush boosts your note reading speed and accuracy, building a strong mental model of where each written note is on your instrument. Now even better with Note Rush: 2nd Edition!

How it Works
---------------------------
Note Rush is like a virtual flash card deck for all ages that listens to you play each note, giving instant feedback and awarding stars based on speed and accuracy of note identification.

Race against the clock to improve your performance or hide the timer to gently engage those just starting out with the staff.

Includes built-in levels for piano and a range of other instruments as well as custom level design.

What makes Note Rush Different?
---------------------------
- Play On Your Instrument
Note reading is best learnt in the context of how you identify and play each note - on your acoustic or MIDI instrument.

- Designed for Teachers
...and not as a replacement for them! Create fully customizable note sets and easily send them home to students.

- Fun Themes
Engage with fun themes that don't get in the way of learning, or opt for traditional notation.

Landmarks: The best way to learn your notes
---------------------------
Note Rush fits with all teaching methods, whether you favor a purely intervallic approach or use traditional mnemonics! We promote learning key landmark notes then reading adjacent notes intervallically for the best results in learning to read piano notation.

Note Rush features a unique landmarks-based hints system (optional) that highlights nearby landmark notes to read intervallically from. Over time students naturally move from reliance on landmarks to a more intrinsic staff-to-keyboard association.

Preset and Custom Levels
---------------------------
Use preset note ranges or create your own set of levels to suit your teaching style. Create a personalized level to target a particular student’s needs.

- Individual Note Selections

Note Rush: Music Reading Game Positive Reviews

Ability to change number of repetitions in the presets?I am a piano teacher and I really appreciate the app for its ability to isolate notes that certain students need help with. I had all my students purchase the app several years ago and appreciate that we all got the upgrade without having to pay an additional charge, thank you! I really like the new “Pre-sets” and like still having the “Level Designer” option. I would like to request the availability to increase the number of repetitions in the Preset, if thats possible. And a couple of questions: Are there a limited number of Level designer exercises I can make? And can they be kept in a numerical order in the Level Designer tab?.Version: 2.01.2

Good starter, but could use refinement. Some of the timed sessions are too short, and it should have a continuous scrolling option. My only REAL complaint though, is that the app does not always detect a note being played. Maybe it’s calibrated for acoustic pianos, I don’t know, but my digital piano needs to be turned up pretty loud, and or I have to slam on the keys for the app to detect a note being played. This is aggravating when you are trying to beat a time, and you are pressing the correct note, but the app is not giving you credit for it, and you have to press it a second time to get the app to register that you’ve pressed it at all. That needs to be fixed. Edit: after a few more days of using the app, I am getting even more frustrated at it in ability to detect certain notes when they are played. For me, it is primarily the G and the F. This is particularly frustrating when you are trying to beat a certain time on a drill and you can’t because even though you have pressed the correct Notes, it is not detecting it, and you need to sit there, confused for a few seconds about whether or not, you played the wrong note only to find out you did play the right note and now I have to play it again..Version: 2.01.2

Quickest way to memorize notes!I haven’t played the piano in many years, mainly because it’s been so frustrating trying to play more advanced songs when I’ve forgotten the higher and lower notes on the scale. This app has helped me recognize notes much faster within the first two days I’ve used it! It lets you isolate bass and treble or practice them together. It also lets you start with the notes around middle C and then move to other levels that bring you gradually further and further out fro middle C. And you are literally training yourself to see a note on a scale and press the appropriate key, rather than memorizing whether it’s A, B, C, etc or just matching it with an image of a piano key. I highly recommend it- totally worth the $4.99 I spent on it..Version: 1.60

The perfect app to learn piano notes!I wanted a simple app that could help me learn and memorize treble and bass clef notes on my piano. This app did exactly that!! Warning! This timed game style format is addictive as you try to beat your time. While the audio recognition was good, the MIDI connection was perfect allowing me to practice and not wake up the rest of the family. I wasn’t using the theme notes until my grandson came over and wanted to try playing but only using the soccer ball and the ghost at Halloween; what a brilliant idea to encourage children!!! My only request to the developer is to now create the ability to learn and practice chords in addition to single notes ( with MIDI connection this should be workable ). Well done app! Thank you.Version: 1.60

Awesome app for adults. In reading the reviews I wasn’t really sure what I was going to get, but so glad I purchase this app. It’s actually my first review ever for an app because I’m quite surprised folks don’t love it more, and wanted to share my take on it. I am learning piano and just wanted to have an app to figure out the notes with, it’s absolutely perfect for that. You get to choose exactly what notes she would like to practice and then it makes a little game for you to practice, just in the 10 minutes I used it it was so helpful. So definitely purchase if you want a simple to learn notes. And for adults it has just a simple interface that doesn’t have animals or goblins or anything for kids..Version: 1.60

Please add sharps & flatsI recently bought this app for my son and also to evaluate it for my violin students. While I really like many things about it, I have a few suggestions. Most importantly, it would be so helpful to include sharps and flats. This is especially true for string students because sometimes the natural notes are more difficult to play for beginners since they involve different finger patterns students may not have learned yet and aren’t ready to tackle. Also, learning to read sharps and flats correctly is a very important skill. The other improvement I would suggest is enabling the repetition of pitches. This may already be possible, but I couldn’t figure it out..Version: 1.60

Bad reception—good conceptAlthough this game has an amazing idea of teaching students how to learn notes (as a student using this app for years now), it's response to notes is garbage. I really feel bad writing this review, because it as always been my go-to piano practicing app, but I think it is time to point out the problems. Often times when I am playing notes correctly, it glitches. Sometimes, it gives me a couple of seconds penalty (even when I am playing the notes correctly and in the correct octave), while other times it just completely ignores me. Either way, the app is glitchy. Even though of it's defects, in the long run, it helps get the job done. Amazing concept and I really think it definitely hooks players. Looking forward to the new update!!.Version: 1.60

Exactly what I was looking for!!I am so happy with this app. I am a piano teacher and I am so excited that I found this app! I love that it works with the sound from a real piano and that it recognizes octaves! My students love working in this app and one even asked to do it first because she wanted to beat her own score. Thank you so much for making such a perfect customizable and yet simple app that even my younger students can use. I used to time my students playing notes with regular flash cards but I couldn’t flip the cards fast enough and it was a little stressful because I would drop cards or the timer wouldn’t work right. So many things for me to have to think about. Not any more! I am so happy!!.Version: 1.55

Speedy Response TimeAt first I was worried about the “listening” response time so I purchased the Yamaha MD-BT01 Bluetooth adapters for my Disklavier Enspire piano before purchasing Note Rush, but “listening” via the iPhone microphone is just as speedy as the MIDI Bluetooth. At first I couldn’t figure how to save multiple versions of my own level cards but one reviewer’s video showing saving QR codes to Photos and then loading those was very helpful. If there’s a manual describing the process, I couldn’t find it. It’s an interesting solution to the problem of how to save your own level cards. Also had a difficult time figuring how to get naturals, sharps and flats in the level design mode, but then realized there are ghosted columns for naturals, flats and sharps. Just select the note you want on the line or space in the appropriate column. This is a terrific app! Associating the notes on the keyboard with the notes on the staffs is much better for me than clicking a button on the regular flash card apps. The other listening app I tried had very slow response times..Version: 1.60

Really great app!My young flute students love this app! If you’re looking for simple note recognition flash cards, this is not the app for you. However, this is a great next step from note recognition to actually playing the correct note on your instrument. For beginner flute players getting the correct combinations of fingers is challenging. Making it into a game makes it fun. I would give 5 stars if this had a level for treble clef that didn’t go below middle C but went into higher upper ledger lines (think F6-B6) to make this a more useful tool for my specific instrument. (Reading upper treble ledger lines is a really important skill for flautists to learn.) Still great as is, but not as useful for my 3rd year beginner-intermediate students..Version: 1.55

Mostly greatI am pretty impressed that this app can recognize notes on the piano. However, sometimes it won’t recognize a note. It doesn’t recognize treble clef b, which is super frustrating for my son. Also, I have 3 kids who play piano and it would be really nice to be able to have more than one custom game. Their teacher assigns them certain notes to practice and they each have different ones. It would be great if they could each have their own custom game so I don’t have to make a new one each time..Version: 1.60

Love this app! (would love to see moveable clefs)I teach music, and this app has been wonderful for my students. It’s a great way to warm up at the start of lessons or to break up activities. I love the level editor! It allows you to choose the notes students are quizzed over. The ability to change themes on the home screen is also great! Students love to choose a theme before starting the game. I would love to see one featured added to this app: moveable clef support. I have some students who need to learn tenor clef and alto clef, and I would love to be able to use this app with them!.Version: 1.60

Love note RushThis is a Extremely good App plus I really like it and and it lets me practice my piano a little bit most of the times I really really like it now that I fix my piano problem because it didn’t tell the letters but ever since I’ve open that little top part it’s been working because the thing you open that you can hear it I guess when you can hear like super loud it’s only when you open the little thing that’s on the piano and then ever since I’ve done that it’s been working so yeah I gave you five star raid.Version: 1.60

Fantastic!I’m 28 and learning how to sight read music for the piano. I’ve searched all over for something to study the grand staff and this is exactly what I was looking for. The custom level designer is brilliant. The only thing I could really see to improve this would be having multiple notes at the same time. Even just one note on each clef to practice sight reading with both hands. I could see how this would be difficult to implement with the microphone but if possible it would be a game changer. Love the app. Keep up the great work!.Version: 1.55

Great app for my studentsI have used this app for several years. I love the upgrades made and appreciate getting them with no charge. I didn’t even realize the price had increased until a new student downloaded the app. The only frustration I have experienced is the inconsistency with being able to hear the tone played. It confuses my students because, they don’t know if they’ve played an incorrect note or it just wasn’t played loud enough..Version: 2.01.2

I love this app!Technically it’s already a 5 star platform. I love how it builds my topographical confidence while reinforcing not looking down to find my hands on the keyboard. The reason for 4 out of 5 stars? I would like to see multiple note practice. I.e. chords and intervals. I would also like to find notes simultaneously on the bass and treble clefs. That would build a great foundation for sight reading. Thank you for providing such an awesome learning tool!.Version: 1.60

Fantastic!I use this with all my piano students at lessons. We keep a chart of who has completed each level and who has the high scores. I also encourage them to download it for home practice. Thank you for keeping this affordable with a one time purchase. I can’t recommend it enough! My one suggested improvement would be an option to reset the high scores..Version: 2.01.2

Best sight-reading app I know of.I have found no other app where you can practice playing the notes on your ACTUAL keyboard, not just touch the screen. Also, it’s only 5 bucks once, not some expensive monthly subscription. I hope this developer also creates one like this for chords and intervals (this one only does individual notes) because as far as i know no one’s ever done that.Version: 1.60

Great app for learning notes!I really like this app and have started using it with all my piano students at their lessons. They love trying to beat each other's time. I like that the app requires them to play the correct key on the piano/correct octave rather than just choose the right note name. All the different themes available in the app make it fun for kids too. Can we have more to choose from in the future? 😁.Version: 1.26

Really Great Game! Would totally recommendI think that this is such a great way to help students learn these notes because it gets their mind sharper with notes and it is also really fun! For any potential buyers I would tell you that this is basically the best note memory game ever! I would definitely recommend it to anyone. I love all the themes as well!.Version: 1.60

Fabulous! This is my students’ favorite game for practicing note-to-key identification. A note appears on the staff and the student plays the key on any type of piano. The app “hears” the note played and responds appropriately. The game can be customized for each student. Seasonal items can be chosen in place of regular notes. This is a well-designed tool for reviewing notes. I highly recommend it for both teachers and students..Version: 1.53

Nice!Love this app- using it with my Celtic Harp, had taken a break from playing for a couple of years and needed to review note reading- this is doing the trick. the only suggestion is to make the ‘playing-testing’ time longer or adjustable; spurts are a touch too short for my tastes, but everything else makes up for it Highly recommend this app for new and need to review players..Version: 1.60

My student’s favorite! My students ask if they can do Note Rush in every lesson and then they ask if they can do it over and over. I have now encouraged my parents to get this app and am using a chart to allow each of them to see their progress. It encourages them to get better and better through friendly competition. I highly recommend this app!.Version: 1.52

Great for Music Teachers and Students! This game goes above and beyond any other flash card type game out there. Some apps have tried to come close to this level of awesomeness but have seriously fallen short. My students love this game and ask to play it weekly. You NEED it if you’re a music teacher or if you’re a student wanting to work on your note reading skills!.Version: 1.40

Excellent for teachingLots of my students struggle with reading notes coming out of the hand position training you get in most method books these days. Note rush really helps to recognize notes on the staff quicker! I just wish they would put in the number of inaccuracies on the results at the end of each round, to help track progress.Version: 1.55

Ok appI bought this app as a requirement for my piano and the mic or audio doesn’t work as well as I would like it too!! I started humming with the tune as I play but apparently that screws it up so now I get confused and even when I am not playing it still sometimes won’t listen so if there was a way to fix that, please let me know!!😅.Version: 1.60

Fantastic note training app, responsive developerI really like the idea of a mic to play along with the notes. I asked for a few more ledger lines and the developer replied really quickly with an upgraded version of the game. I’d recommend this to anyone who wants to go from note naming to understanding space on the keyboard..Version: 1.60

My 7 y.o. reads music because of this appSo much better than how I learned to read music in the ‘80s. It feels more like how I learned to type than how I learned to read piano music. My 7 year old quickly learned all the notes using this app. I wish that they would make a version for playing chords from basic chord symbols (Gmaj7, G7, G-7, etc.)..Version: 1.60

Great app for piano playersThis app is great for learning how to site read. It displays a note and then listens to see if you played the right note, only moving on after you get it right. You can also start with a smaller set of the clef if you are just starting out. Well worth it. Download this app. You'll be great at reading piano music in no time..Version: 1.26

Fun! Wish you could save different students profilesGreat app! Love that students have to play it on the piano...not just knowing what it is on a flash card. Only gave it 4 stars because I wish there was a way to have different student profiles on it so students could save their own times and progress (unless this exists and I don’t know how to do it!).Version: 1.60

Awesome appThis has been a staple during my piano lessons, my only critique would be that I would love to see quarter notes, eight notes, and half notes. Most student can pick out those whole notes, but the stems start to confuse them. I think having stems would be good practice.Version: 1.60

My students love this!I teach beginner to intermediate level piano lessons, and this app is our weekly warm-up. My students ask for it! And I notice significant improvement in their recognition speed in their repertoire. I would love to see accidentals added at some point. Maybe through a feature I could toggle on and off?.Version: 1.26

I think it is good, and I love the new update!I think that you should add songs in the game. I used to think that this this game would have 3 stars. Since you updated it, like you can have 5 stars in 1 game, or electrical piano works a lot better, that is why I would rate it a 4 star! PS. I think you did great!.Version: 2.00

Love this app!!!My 6 year old son loves this app and I can’t wait to use it with my beginner percussion students! I hope the future releases will be able to customize the game a bit more between the available notes and or just isolate a certain clef. I would love to be a beta tester if the developer needs more!.Version: 1.60

Student favorite! My piano students LOVE Note Rush! It’s my go-to app at the end of each lesson. It really helps with note recognition and keyboard geography. Kids love trying to beat their previous time and love being able to choose different backgrounds. As a teacher, I love that it is customizable to each student’s needs..Version: 1.53

Wonderful AppThis is a wonderful app to improve note recognition on the piano! Please consider adding an option to substantially increase the duration of play time or make it possible to play continuously until the user manually terminates play..Version: 1.60

AccidentalsI saw in a previous response that they added accidentals to this game, which I thought was great. Until I realized it was only in the treble clef, which was very disappointing. Most kids have trouble with the bass clef, and it would’ve been helpful to include accidentals in both instead of just treble..Version: 2.00.1

Great! But....I love the app and my students’ note reading has greatly improved using it! But the new update with the time penalty for wrong notes.... can we make that optional? For some students it’s really helpful to discourage guessing, but for other students it’s too stressful and discouraging for them. So I’d love to be able to choose that option..Version: 1.52

Almost perfect!Hello note rush! Is anyone out there? We would love higher notes please, please, please!!! Violins would benefit from some higher pitches so they can practice shifting. Also alto clef for violas and tenor clef would be nice. We have been telling everyone we know about this app. Well worth the $5 but would be an amazing practice tool with a larger note range. Thank you!.Version: 1.60

Great app, hidden features :)Love the concept. But it needs accidentals (oh wait, it has them if you make your own custom level!), and transposition for Instruments not in the key of C (oh wait, it does this automatically when you play the starting “middle C” reference note on, say, your Bb horn!). It could use more ledger lines (2 Cs above the staff e.g. for my flute students), to make it perfect :).Version: 1.52

Really Annoying GlitchI like Note Rush as an app and all but it has a really annoying glitch where it doesn’t show the note that needs to be played. Other than that, it’s a pretty cool app and it’s helpful when practicing reading notes :).Version: 1.60

Great interactive, self-correcting “flash cards”I recommend this game to all piano students. I love that it is much more fun than flash cards, and it self corrects. If you don’t play the note correctly, it stays on the screen. Any instrument can use this as far as I can tell; it doesn’t require a midi hookup..Version: 1.60

Great teaching toolI have taught piano lessons for over 40 years and this app is a favorite in my studio. You see the note and play the matching piano key. I love the customize feature where you can set up the game with exactly what notes you want to focus on..Version: 1.53

Note RushIt is a good app to use if you want to learn more to read more notes better, but the microphone could use improvement. Over all, it’s a great way to improve reading music and I recommend it..Version: 1.60

So much better than flash cardsMy son loves using his app and his note reading has improved tremendously since starting. I'm thankful he can do this on his own and it keeps track of his high scores which is highly motivating for him..Version: 1.26

Good start, needs more features, limited and not updated enoughThis is a great start but missing critical features and doesn’t get enough updates. No iCloud synch between devices. No ability to configure repetitions or standard scales, arpeggios, or modes. Quite a bit missing..Version: 2.01.2

Very good but glitches at timesMy daughter has been using this app for a year now and it glitches here and there. Overall it works pretty well and would recommend for learning notes. It’s also really fun to try and beat your high score.Version: 2.01.2

Best sight reading app ever!!You can custom your own level card to practice sharps and flats!! One of a kind. The microphone recognition is accurate and sensitive, unlike some other apps takes long to recognize.Version: 1.60

I like thisIt’s a great app but sometimes it glitches and takes more time to finish with one note even though you’re playing the right note ❤️❤️.Version: 1.60

ReviewMy learning was stalled by not knowing the notes. My teacher recommended this and it helps. Thanks.Version: 1.60

Great appThis app is wonderful for kids and adults with challenging notes and fun themes number one recommendation for at home or online teachers.Version: 2.01.2

BestBest note game ever.Version: 2.00.1

Note rushIt’s fun.Version: 1.60

YesI really love the app it’s really helps me it’s the best app I’ve never known.Version: 1.60

This is a good appThis app really helped me with my sight reading skills and has made practicing piano fun! I really recommend this app..Version: 1.60

Really good app for learning your notesIt really helped my kids to learn the notes. It was really good. Try it download the app. There teacher recommended this app to help them know there notes! Thank you!.Version: 1.60

Good enough but…I’m not very impressed by this type of note rush. But I think it needs an improvement. Somehow it keeps thinking that I’m doing the wrong notes. Why does that have to happen? I dunno.maybe god or heaven knows the answer..Version: 1.60

Great appIt’s great I just wish there was an ‘infinite’ mode where it continually sent randomized notes without stopping. I don’t care too much about the timer or getting stars I just want to keep practicing without having to stop every time I complete the loop..Version: 1.60

Needs minor fixesSometimes the app shows the penalty sign even when it is not on, or I haven’t done anything on. Overall, this is a great app, and definitely worth the cost. Recommend for all levels..Version: 1.60

Note Rush ReviewIt is a really great app! Lots of fun for the younger students learning there notes, and even for me a grade 10 piano player , I can always get faster! It make note reading a lot more modern then the typical flash cards. Thanks Note Rush!.Version: 1.55

Best note reading App aroundI have been using Note Rush for over a year now. It’s works perfectly. It had some teething problems early on but that’s all fixed now and the new update that works with midi where I plug it directly into my keyboards with headphones, works amazing for my group lessons. Kids can’t wait to beat their peers each week. Thanks Thomas.Version: 1.60

Extra contentGreat app! Periodic new themes help keep it fresh! Maybe some additional content like sharp/flat notes? Harmonic intervals would also be a plus! I wouldn't mind paying a couple extra bucks for that content. Good stuff!.Version: 1.26

Awesome!I am a piano teacher with a PhD in music education. I use this app with most of my beginner and intermediate students and have seen tremendous improvement in their reading skills. It must be the only one out there (when I first got it) that had you PLAY the notes in the appropriate octave. The game and timing aspects provide great motivation to get better, the different levels correspond perfectly to the levels in their method books, and the create-your-own version is super! We love all the themes, especially the seasonal ones. Thank you so much for this! The price point is just right... parents don’t mind it too much (less than a book) but it’s just enough to take it seriously..Version: 1.55

Note rushNote rush helps us read notes.Version: 1.55

Why this game is four starsEverytime i play the correct note it ignors and says its not correct but when it actually is correct.Version: 1.55

New update sucks🙁🙁🙁🙁!But still it helps.Version: 1.53

A great addition to any studioI have had this app for over a year and have noticed an increase in successful note recognition. This has transferred over to better Piano proficiency and score reading..Version: 1.53

Note rush rocks!I downloaded this app after my child's piano teacher recommended it. Initially I didn't know how it worked and quickly wrote a bad review. The developer contacted me within a day and explained how it works. This app has helped my daughter a lot, she knows all her notes now. The app is definitely an essential part of her home music practice..Version: 1.23

He best note readying app!! EVER!!If you teach music, you need this app!! Most of my students now own this app and it has made a huge difference! So much fun, too!!.Version: 1.14
