ASL Fingerspell Dictionary Positive Reviews

Almost Perfect - 2 SuggestionsThis is a great little app. It helps me practice what I’m learning in class, and i LOVE that it works w/o wifi or cell signal. If the developer doesn’t mind a few suggestions: (1) instead of holding the first and last letters for a while in FS quiz (which I assume is so fist and last aren’t cut off by video), hold a still hand or hold hand out of site for a second or two. Having the first and last letters held for a long time makes it too easy and unlike IRL. (2) For the FS quiz where you type in answers, set it to work in landscape as well as portrait. It’s annoying to have to rearrange my tablet to portrait mode for this app..Version: 3.8

Read what is app offersI only read the reviews and decided to purchase based on that. The app it self is good. The app offers and does everything it says it will do. Since I did not read it fully I didn’t see that it only goes up to 5 letter words. This is app seems more for beginners or those still in ASL classes. I went through the levels very fast. I’m currently an interpreting student. I still have trouble with finger spelling. The app however is not comprehensive enough for my level. I need more than 5 letters words. Also the speed is good but I wish it could be made faster. In my experience I often come across a lot of deaf who Fingerspell faster than what is provided in the video. Hopefully the developer can add more levels that include larger words. 6+ letter. Also provide an option to make the speed faster, not only slower..... After using the app more. I would still buy it knowing what it is. it is really good practice. Also I think I may have misspoke saying this app was not comprehensive enough. At its current level it is still a challenge. Long term In order to remain a challenge i believe more words should be added. Either new words 3-5 letters. Or expanding to longer words..Version: 2.1

Hand position-At times it’s very difficult to make out some letters as she doesn’t have good positioning of her hand facing the receiver (us using the app) -Also with the poor positioning of her hand... when she blends letters halfway (which is common in FSing)... you can’t make out what letter it is, even in slow motion because of the bad positioning of her hand. You have to guess or fill in the blank. -adding more words / higher letter count words would be awesome. And please have the signer face her hand out front, not inward to herself. That’s so weird, even with beginners all the way to full on Deaf people and instructors, never have I see someone fingerspell inward. -3 stars because of her hand positioning. Otherwise this would be a great app. -maybe make a 2nd version (I would pay) or add on this one for higher count words + add numbers. Something like the price of an item, years, age of a person, would be good for number practice..Version: 2.1

ASL Fingerspell DictionaryI became severely deaf in the last five years. I have been learning ASL with a tutor during the last year. I find receptive fingerspelling one of the harder aspects of learning to communicate in ASL. The ASL Fingerspell Dictionary is very helpful in this regard and fills a need not available otherwise . The displays are clear. The pace of presentation very adequate. The progression of difficulty well chosen. And to top it all, after finding a bug in the application and contacting Tech Support I received a reply within two hours acknowledging the problem and promising a prompt fix. Two days later I received an email alerting me that an update was available in the App Store. Installed and working!!!.Version: 3.2

It is great but...I love this app as a person getting back into ASL. My only problem is the person’s hands are not facing the screen which makes it difficult to see what handshape she is displaying. At times I think she signed one letter when really it was the other because her hand was facing to the side. Hope this helps! Otherwise, love how challenging it can get..Version: 1.3

Excellent, real life appOther fingerspelling apps simply show a sequence of static letters, But this app actually shows whole words as they are, thus showing the transitions between letters which are very important for developing fluency. The inclusion of a dictionary, the ability to mark favorites, and the quizzes, are valuable features, too. A simply superb app!.Version: 1.3

Excellent Learning ToolThis app is fantastic...it allows you to adjust the speed, quickly replay and get comfortable with the natural transitions between letters. Finger spelling has always been the most challenging part of learning ASL for me...this app has really helped me improve quickly..Version: 1.3

Amazing appI love this app. I only been learning this for a month and I'm already getting the hang of it. The quiz is helping me learn the sign languages more. I absolutely love this app. If you want to learn and understand sign language then this is the app for you.Version: 1.3

Wanna-be-interpreterThis is a great app! Still needing practice “reading” asl, this app does a great job. I mostly use the Learn feature and set it to play-all. True the app only goes uo to 5-letter words but it’s a great start. I highly recommend this app to all non-expert signers!!.Version: 2.1

Receptive skills! This app has been super useful in improving my receptive finger spelling skills! The small fee is worth it!.Version: 3.8

Good practice, but...The signer finger-spells with her hand near her bellybutton and her hand facing away from the camera. It’s not very clear, but is good practice for real life conversation between multiple people as you’re not always going to have the person fingerspelling facing you..Version: 1.3

Great app for learning to read fingerspellingA great tool for improving your fingerspelling reading skills, lots of levels, great practice..Version: 1.3

Landscape mode pleaseI want to be able to use landscape mode for typing the answer, why? Because I have a Smart Keyboard and its easier to type with that than portrate..Version: 2.1

Great App!This is an awesome app. Thank you to the people that made it..Version: 2.1

First app I've found of its kindI like the large variety of words, the quizzes, etc. It is easy to use. I like that you can slow down the video. I found myself learning immediately..Version: 1.1

Great way to practice reading finger spelling! It's fun to use and I'm noticeably better at understanding fingerspelled words. Love the ability to playback in slow mode.Version: 1.2

10/10Great app! Helps me improve my signing! Highly recommend!.Version: 1.0

Great App!This app is great for practicing your finger spelling 👍🏽👍🏽.Version: 1.1

Best by farI tried several different apps and this is the best by far. Only complaint I have is that I can’t find it for my android phone. If it came in both Android and Apple, it would be nearly perfect. Thanks for making an app with real people signing real words making it really easy to learn..Version: 1.3

Great help in practiceAs a beginner at ASL, I am finding this a great help with my finger spelling..Version: 1.2
