Tunefox App Comments & Reviews

Tunefox Positive Reviews

It’s Key To How I LearnI’ve been an early user of TuneFox and love the new app and the ease with which I can learn new songs, either solely by ear or with some of the tools (ease of isolating measures, hidden notes, ability to switch in different licks, Scruggs/melodic and backup playing styles). With TuneFox, I’ve stretched myself like never before, and it’s all self-paced. When i’ve got a tune I want to master, as happened this week at a jam session, TuneFox was my first stop. I love being able to isolate one, two three measures until I have them nailed and then move on. In the past, I’ve always started at the beginning of a song and as a result, i don’t get to the back of the song as much. That’s all changed and I am seeing progress I’ve never seen before! I’m now using it for mandolin and plan on using it to learn guitar..Version: 3.0.5

Musical innovation!!As someone who hasn’t played music in several years this app was a perfect way for me to hit the ground running with learning the banjo. After a month of working through the lessons I am feeling more confident in my ability to start playing with a group. The support for this app is top notch. I have mad suggestion to them through email and Facebook and have had great response time and friendly service. They have even implemented one of my suggestions already. There seems to be an active development staff and the Facebook group has been very helpful. The value for the subscription is great when compared to lessons or other online instruction. If you’re thinking about learning a new instrument or just learning bluegrass TuneFox is amazing..Version: 5.4

Love Tune Fox!I had to take a couple of months off from banjo lessons when a family member was injured. Once I found Tune Fox, I was able to pick up where I left off. I’ll definitely resume lessons this month, but am still going to use this stellar app to improve my skills. I’ve had a couple of minor issues when on iPad, but it’s been mostly smooth sailing. I use Bluetooth headphones with one ear on and the other off, so I can hear my mistakes (or lack of em!) I love that you can change app settings to help you improve playing by ear, playing faster, and slowly adding challenges. Great selection of BG tunes too! CAN’T THANK YOU ENOUGH TUNE FOX! Well worth the reasonable price..Version: 8.8.0

Mostly AwesomeThis a great and helpful app. The layout is fantastic, and the ability to switch song segments to pentatonic scales, chromatic, etc. is an unexpected boon. The Lessons are great, but regrettably limited, and don’t take you very far. There are a few things that could be added, for sure, such as expanding the song library to include more than folk/bluegrass music (though I understand that’s the primary genre for the target instruments, mandolin can easily transition to more classical melodies). It would also be nice to switch from numeric tablature to a standard d musical notation (staves and noteheads). All things considered, if you’re learning your instrument for bluegrass or folk, this is the perfect app. And even if you’re not interested in that genre, the mechanics and techniques learned can generally carry over to any other..Version: 4.2

Regarding recent updatesHard to hear the metronome and the back music is a bit too loud and just tends to drown out what was once a decent metronome. I have been contacted promptly by the CEO of Tunefox and they’ve been awesome about helping explain and correct my issues. What I love about it is the ability to play along with the Tabs in both the Lessons, riffs and songs, it really helps to hear and play along. Since I am just starting out I loved too that I could click the link to the chord and find the shape WITHIN the song While Playing it! Great features, I also love the video lessons and the teacher does a Wonderful job on every single video explaining! I really can’t say enough good.Version: 6.1

Good App for Learning MandolinAlthough I enjoy the App and think that it's helped me a lot with my mandolin playing, there are two issues which prevent it from getting a 5 star rating. The first issue is that when in learning mode, the music never starts at the count in. It jumps in at the first note much too quickly for me to actually play the first measure. I always have to enter learning mode, stop the music, hit the "back to beginning" button, and go from there. The second issue is more of a nice to have - sync my progress across my various devices. Finally, a request - please let me delete stuff I've looked at but am not interested in from Back to the Beat..Version: 9.0.2

I’ve been looking for this!As a newbie banjo player, I’ve been looking for an app where I could practice and go at my own pace! This is better than I could’ve imagined! I love how you can slow the tempo and make it easier and harder, based on your progress. I love how it shows the tabs. Lessons are bite sized, so progress feels easy! Thank you for making this! I recommend it to everyone!.Version: 8.6.0

ShucksThis sounds really cool! But I haven’t used it yet..and I probably never will. You need to pay for a subscription which is totally fine I’m sure it’s worth it but I personally can’t pay so bye-bye Tunefox. Also please don’t get me wrong, a company should do what they need to do to pay their employees and feed themselves so please Please don’t spite them for making it subscription only I think it’s better than barely being able to do anything because you don’t have a membership. So yeah I’m not at all mad more like “oh well” anywho from what the other comments say it’s a great app so if you can are willing to you should..Version: 6.9.4

What I have been missingThis app has helped me get back into picking up my banjo and guitar. I had continuous frustration and just gave up several times before. This app provides a continuous song loop at various bpm and lick change-outs which has allowed me to figure out melodic vs Scruggs distinction. I wish I had this many years ago!! I can’t wait for more songs and licks to be added. I ask that there be a lick “companion” where you can start composing and it gives you options and variations on what to go on to next. The visual timing on the tab is a huge bonus I also would like to see some Celtic tunes added too, along with Christmas tunes (esp What Child is This)..Version: 5.1

Updated ratingWhen I first paid for a 3 month subscription I couldn’t actually get access to all content. Bennett worked with me for a few days, I sent proof of payment and they manually opened my account. I couldn’t be happier. I don’t believe there is any better learning tool for banjo available. Highly recommend..Version: 5.4

Time to pick up the banjo again. Was learning banjo many years, and life happened. Started again and looked for a teaching app. Wow, there are many out there, some very good, a lot, not so much. Tunefox is one of the more expensive, but well worth the money. Many options in learning how to play and improve your skills..Version: 3.0.3

Outstanding valueWhat a brilliant learning system to enable a 73 year old to play banjo, this app has brought me a new lease on life. Thank you Tunefox for all the help through both group and individual support, I wish you could have been available 50 years ago, I would be on stage now next to Scruggs!.Version: 4.1

Great for musicians and beginners alikeFinally an app that has so many cool features it’s hard to mention all. This app was created by professional musicians and teachers so it addresses all aspect of music learning. I am a professional musician and teacher and now use this app with many of my students. Good job guys!.Version: 2.1.0

The 5*The best app and software I have found hands down. I struggled a lot with timing and keeping rolls. This software made me a beast at jams and keeps me going. I am addicted and strive to learn every song in this software both banjo and guitar. I love it. I tell all my friends about it also!!.Version: 5.2

Wonderful App & Great InterfaceI’ve used a ton of different methods to learn songs but Tunefox is one of the most streamlined and fun. It’s easy to work and has a lot of good tunes built in. Can’t recommend it enough..Version: 8.1.3

Limited accessI think this app is GREAT for early learners. The ONLY thing is that you only get like 4-5 songs if you don’t pay like $19 a month, which is insane for a simple banjo app. Like I said, besides that^ the app is great! I would actually strongly recommend..Version: 8.1.2

Learning BanjoI love the way you can slow the music up or make it easier or harder. This has been extremely helpful for me to learn with and it is fun!!.Version: 8.6.3

TunefoxI’ve been playing the banjo for 2 years. This is by far the best way to learn the banjo. Great lessons and hundreds of songs to learn to play. Plus they add new songs every month..Version: 9.0.0

Great appI’ve been playing Banjo for many years. I have subscribed to many web sites and purchased countless books and tabs. Tune Fox is hands down the easiest and most comprehensive approach available. Great app. Dr. Kirby McGill.Version: 3.0.5

Want to make your learning music easier? What a great app!!! It is great for all skill levels. It has become the tool I most often use learning Mandolin. I highly recommend Tunefox..Version: 6.4.1

Alexander NamoradoVery cool app. Really intuitive and easy to use. Definitely the most condensed and accessible platform to learn bluegrass tunes that I've seen online. Highly recommend it!.Version: 2.0.2

Great app thats been very helpful!I would recommend this app to anyone who was looking to learn the Banjo or Guitar. Great interface that makes the learning fun!.Version: 2.1.0

Happy with new approachI appreciate the ability to slow the tablature playback. A couple of lessons show up blank for scales on my iPad is my only issue. It’s great to have something new to work on..Version: 6.3

Best learning app in the world!!Get this app! It’ll change your playing skills 100%.Version: 6.9.9

This app rocks!!!Love it. It’s exactly what I needed to get me going again on the Banjo. Very easy to follow along with the tabs. Love all the bells and whistles..Version: 6.9.4

TunefoxWonderful way to learn to play banjo👍.Version: 9.0.2

Great but priceyAbsolutely the best way to learn anything bluegrass on any instrument, the only issue is how much is locked behind a $15 a month subscription..Version: 8.6.3

Very Well DoneGreat way to learn a banjo!!!!!!!.Version: 8.4.2

Excellent when you already know the basics!Tldr, despite my first paragraph, Tunefox is excellent if you have foundations from elsewhere. I got Tunefox a while back when I began banjo with virtually no music foundation. It was not the most helpful of foundational lessons. So many things I didn’t understand that the lessons lack (learning is a personal thing, so I won’t take a star for that - it may be excellent for others), so it didn’t work well for me then. A bit later after going through lessons from different internet instructors and really getting almost all of the fundamentals down, I had a problem with figuring out tempo and getting my songs to sound like music rather than methodical picking. It’s something that recorded non-personalized lessons will lack, and I found it hard as heck to learn just by recordings and blogs. THIS is where Tunefox is really shining for me. Cripple Creek is such an identifiable and “easy” melody to play in the beginner banjo realm, but beyond that I had a tough time getting melody in songs like Old Joe Clark and the other basics. In just 30 minutes (it that) in Tunefox, I was finally able to get my tempo fixed up and the melody is finally really shining, and now it’s such a fun song to play. I’d assume it’s still no replacement for a good old fashioned human instructor, but it’s the best for the things recorded lessons or static tablature can’t teach that I’ve experienced. It’s a very simple app to navigate and extremely clean. There’s a bunch of settings and ways to use it to just practice individual measures, progressively speed up, hide notations (to help with memorization), different versions, and other good tools for practicing what you know..Version: 6.9.2

Not freeNeed a subscription to use.Version: 9.0.2

GreatLifetime member Love it 🪕🪕🪕.Version: 8.1.0

Really effective for improving skillsHad this app for about 2 months and can't believe how much my play has improved. I'm an advanced beginner and there are quite a few songs perfect for my level, though a few more would be great. I love that I can learn a simple version of a song and then substitute in more advanced measures. Please keep creating new songs!.Version: 1.3.0

TuneFoxThis is a great new app. One of the advantages is that you are hearing real banjo instead of midi sounds. It lets you loop any section you want to practice. It also teaches the backup to songs which is such an important skill in jamming..Version: 1.2.0

Difficult to readI find the tabs difficult to read. With the white on gray lines, there appears to be 7 lines and I often find my fingers on the wrong strings. You get to choose 3 free songs from a generous list but the songs I chose were all just 8 measures. This is offset some since each song includes 3 formats (scruggs, melodic and backup) and some of the measures have alternate licks..Version: 1.0

Worthy! If you want to learn banjo on your own, working with this app will make it happen. I play banjo and I've learned a ton (especially melodic style). Totally worth it. Test it out on the 7 day trial and buy a month or more. Love it..Version: 1.3.0

Great learning tool, amazing design! This is the best music learning tool I've ever used. As a banjo player this is a must have. The design is also fantastic , I lvoe how the tab works and playing around with the lick switcher is a ton of fun!.Version: 1.0

Great Idea!Love this app! The melodic substitutions are terrific. The audio is top notch too. Would love to be able to export arrangement as a PDF..Version: 1.0

By far the best app for learning.. well anything.I’ve always wanted to play the banjo, I’ve spent months trying YouTube and guitar tabs but this is by far the best in depth app I’ve ever used..Version: 5.4

Love TunefoxI subscribed for a few months for my family iPad. The accessibility wasn’t worth it. I’ll come back when\if you ever go android. I despise apple, iTunes, etc. You guys are the only interest I have in it. I’m sure I’m not alone. Hope y’all expand. Awesome app for sure. Peace.Version: 6.4.1

This is the best tutorial app I’ve ever usedI’ve tried YouTube videos, tablature apps, even tried slowing down songs to learn banjo, and nothing has done it like TuneFox. Each lesson builds on the last one and before you know it, you’re pickin!.Version: 5.4

Very coolThis app. is just what I was looking for. It takes the expense out of getting private lessons and having to go lessons some where. Great tutorials for all levels. I particularly like the video tutorials and play alongs. This app. will save me $200.00 a month in lessons..Version: 4.0

Mastered 3 songs in the first monthBought a lifetime subscription after the free trial because it’s made learning Banjo so much easier. I mostly use the web app because it’s nicer to use a bigger screen on a laptop or monitor. It’s been great learning with tune fox! I wish they had some more popular hits though. It’d be super cool to do Britney Spear’s Toxic on a banjo! Lol!.Version: 6.9.6

BravoThank you so much this motivates me to learn more good teacher !.Version: 5.1

Learn at my paceI really appreciate how extensive the library is with tunes for all levels. Once I pick one to learn, the app allows you to slow down the speed while learning it. The speed control make alls the difference for learning new music..Version: 4.5

The new best tool for banjo playersIf you are a banjo player you need this.Version: 1.1.0
