National Hurricane Center Data App Comments & Reviews

National Hurricane Center Data Positive Reviews

Look No FurtherThis dedicated hurricane tracking app is worth every byte of storage on my phone. I’ve only used the free version of the app, but the free version already offers a lot. Between the time-of-arrival predictions, cone trajectory predictions, spaghetti models, rainfall predictions, and multiple satellite image displays showing everything from enhanced photos to humidity levels, all gathered from the most recent NOAA data, the free version is wanting in nothing. I was able to keep total up-to-date awareness of Hurricane Ian as it came through my neighborhood, and was able to make informed decisions thanks to the data provided by this app. I basically didn’t need to check the news for info on Hurricane Ian, but I did anyways, and the data lined up every time. In fact, I found that the news was unable to provide more information than this app, with the sole exception of Doppler radar, and there are other dedicated apps for that, like MyRadar. With all that said, the paid version is enticing considering a considerably expanded toolset to track hurricanes, and it is fairly cheap ($9.99 for a year, or $3.99 per month). The free version definitely gave me everything I needed to track Hurricane Ian, but the app is so good that I am willing to support and get the paid version..Version: 1.15

Absolute best app for real data that’s also easy to understand. This app is critical for anyone who lives in an area with tropical weather/systems. There have been hurricanes where the data in the app (which updates at the same time meteorologists get their update) gets to me faster than the news on TV/online. Living on the Gulf coast of Florida, anyone that’s been here for the last few years knows how many storms have been down to minute changes in course or strength to determine when to evacuate or change plans. This app keeps you 100% up to date and I highly recommend the subscription. With the subscription I usually have a 1-2 day lead on storm development before the news is even talking about it. There are so many features and maps and graphics that I feel like real meteorologists must get about the same data if at all any more. TL;DR This app is as good for the average person as it would be for a trained meteorologist, and is the ONLY app you need to be totally prepared in any hurricane..Version: 1.30

The best hurricane data source aggregatorThis app is simply the best for tracking storms, gathering data and displaying it in useful ways. A variety of model tools are available. The app, and especially the Pro subscription is worth every penny if you live in an area susceptible to hurricane impacts. The Developer support is terrific, the developer responds quickly to questions. Updates and improvements just keep coming and the app is getting better and better. I do wish the developer would embrace “dark mode” or simply modify the screen colors to tone down all the white space; the menu screens would be so much more pleasing and easy on the eyes. Finishing up with another hurricane season coming to an end. I wouldn’t want to be without this app, even after hurricane season is over. The model forecasts are great, providing up to 16-day forecasts that show future storms across the country. As a traveler, this app keeps me informed. Worth every penny!.Version: 1.30

Good reviewI have lived in the panhandle of Florida for the past 35 years seeing many hurricanes come and go. What I have learned is that no two of them are totally alike. This app and you people are great in what you’re doing for us. I feel that the criticism from some in Ian’s path recently are unfounded. We were hit by Michael four years ago, so I know how bad it can be when it comes to your back door. People are too ready in this time to try and find someone else to blame when they make an error in judgment You guys are doing your job very well and I ask you to please keep up the good work. Florida has such an influx. of people that are new and uneducated in hurricanes, but become experts overnight. You guys are doing a great job. Please don’t let these few negative people hamper your efforts. We appreciate what you do. Thank you and keep up the good work!.Version: 1.15

Can’t live without itAs someone who lives in a hurricane prone state and has lived through a cat 5 storm, I was thrilled when NOAA came out with this app so that I can find all the data I need in one place. The radar images are particularly stunning and the forecast information provides enough range to make educated decisions about timing of evacuations and such. I also don’t have to hear overdone weather forecasters hyping situations up (though, in fairness, it’s not a real hurricane until Jim Cantore appears on screen fighting the elements ;-) ). I appreciate that I can get basic data at a glance as needed and do deep dives into the science when I’m curious. If you want an app that gives you no nonsense information, this is the place to find it. (If spaghetti models terrify you, however, stick with something more basic.) Thanks NOAA et al for this fabulous app!.Version: 1.7.16

Another FloridianI count on this app for information I cannot get from anywhere else. I live between areas of TV coverage…a weather no-man’s-land. I can track storms with the spaghetti models, look at various satellite imagery and make my own decisions. To me, this app is a life and/or property saver. If I could improve it in any way, it would be to have the ability to filter spaghetti models. In the 7 years I’ve been using this app, I find the UK model seems to be the most accurate. Most recently, it was the only one that most closely predicted the track of Ian. Now, it appears to be predicting the track of Nicole to my doorstep, it’s just hard to tell with the jumble of the rest..Version: 1.15

Ok...not great. This app is marginally better than going to the NOAA website. Push notifications are nice. Satellite page loads all of the loop images before displaying. What if i don’t want the loop? I have to wait for all the images to load? What if i have a slow connection? The interactive map is beta quality in my opinion. It takes forever to update; you need the eyes of a five year old to read the minuscule fonts on the storm. Oh, you can zoom in and read it just fine....that is until it updates then back to the fonts for ants. Tapping on the storm does nothing; does not bring up any info. I would pay $20 to get Hurricane Pro or an equivalent app back. So far I have found nothing that even comes close. Some features in the latest version of this app may be worth $2 for some. For me only because nobody can seem to put out anything better..Version: 1.1.6

A must for storm tracking.I check the weather report every morning, and during hurricane season I’m constantly pulling up this app because they let me know about a possible storm even before the Weather channel or my local news apps do. I live in Houston, so being warned about a possible hurricane could mean the difference between life and death. Usually there’s plenty of time, but not always, especially when living so close to the coast. Any advanced warning is greatly appreciated, so if you or those you love near anywhere near an area ripe with hurricane traffic, I strongly suggest you get this app. It might even save your life..Version: 1.15

New user to this appWe live in the midwest, own 2 houses in St. John, USVI. We were hit hard 2 years ago and have been using the NHC NOAA website daily during hurricane season. Just found this app today. I like the different map views. They provide quick and easy differentiation to multiple aspects. Also works well over the mainland. I would like to see these maps in action for the next official hurricane. I had no issues whatsoever giving 2 bucks to the store. 2 suggestions: Larger Atlantic overview if possible. All these storms originate from the African coast and I couldnt see that area very well; also it might provide a larger picture if the app would rotate to landscape view when i turn the device sideways. Thank you to the developer for all the work you have invested..Version: 1.2.8

The Best Hurricane AppI live on the Gulf Coast in Mississippi. Hurricane Katrina destroyed my whole neighborhood when it hit. I rode out hurricane Camille in 1969 when I was a child. I’ve been through all the Mississippi Gulf Coast hurricanes since the mid 1960s. That being said- This app is hands down the greatest tool for understanding these incredible storms. I love the hi-res satellite photos, radar animations, And frankly more data than I am capable of understanding. It’s a wonderful tool with all the available filters on the radar images, I didn’t realize there were so many ways to look at storm data. Try it, you’ll be impressed with what’s available with this quality app..Version: 1.7.22

App is getting better all the time.I wrote an earlier review that was less than positive. Soon after I was contacted by the developer. He is working hard to make this app one of the most useful hurricane tracking apps available. One update has been added; another is on the way which allows users to keep informed with potential storm developments. We’ll check back here again when there is a named storm. Thanks for the improvements. The developer’s willingness to listen constructively is an added bonus! Go to Settings and find a direct link to the National Hurricane Center website. This is a real plus. This app just keeps getting better..Version: 1.0.7

Best Hurricane App!I live along the Florida coast and I cruise about 30-40 weeks a year and this is by far the most helpful hurricane tracker I’ve found. When on cruise ships, and people get worried I open the app and show them where the storms are headed, help people plan other routes home, or give them peace of mind when our course changes. When I am home, I can prepare based on the potential storm tracks instead of based on the news media hype. I watched local forecaster’s bad acting holding onto a pole for dear life due to strong winds while 2 locals walked into a restaurant across the street holding an umbrella with zero issues..Version: 1.35

Great app and getting better with every release!I’ve been using this app for a while now. Originally, I was just looking for a way to view NHC images easily on mobile. Their web page isn’t the greatest on a mobile browser. When I found this app, it was exactly that. Not many features at that point, but it worked well and was easy to navigate. Basically, it just had the images along with a radar. Every release since then has improved the app and there is now so much interesting information. If you live in an area where paying attention to hurricane forecasts is important, there isn’t a better app!.Version: 1.6.7

My GO TO Hurricane appI have been using this app for a couple of years and have been extremely pleased. Living in Florida and having a home on the water can be stressful in the event you need to evacuate. This is the only app I use to get right to the facts and alerts without scrolling through a lot of unnecessary garbage. Plus it updates very quickly and has all the information needed. I would highly recommend this to anyone wanted to stay up to date on tropical weather systems. In fact, most of my friends have started using it after they see how user friendly it is and how the current information is easy to find..Version: 1.6.7

My (and should be yours) Go To Hurricane AppI live on the Gulf Coast and have been through my fair share of hurricanes 3 of which were cat 5s. I have also had multiple “hurricane tracking and info” apps … many were very good. However, nothing holds a candle to this! It provides early, detailed and concise weather info to keep you informed and prepared. I’ve used the Pro version for farther-reaching data and forecasts to make both decisions for my business teams and my own family. This IS the definitive app to have if you, or your friends and family, live in hurricane prone locals!.Version: 1.36

BETTER THAN 5 STARS!!!How do I love thee app, let me count the ways :) This app is so easy to use. As others have said, the developer took free information, put it all in one place, made it easy to navigate, and doesn’t charge for it. Who is this person or people? Don’t they know that they should charge a lot of money for this? Seriously, I would gladly pay money - a one time purchase - for this app. GREAT feature: the developer puts a note on pages. For example, today we are watching hurricane Laura approaching land. He / she / they have a note explaining that the website is getting so much traffic that it will probably load slow, just wait and it will load. And this app is FREE. I am learning from the notes, I am getting all the information I need, and this app is FREE. I think everyone should have this app, and check out the other apps by this developer! I now have 4 apps from this developer, did I mention that most of them are FREE. Yep I kinda like this app..Version: 1.6.9

Totally works for meThis app is my go-to for any hurricane information. I like the ability to select a storm or see a full ocean view (Atlantic or Pacific for example, especially helpful during peak season with multiple storms). Then I can select details about the storm and get not only maps and forecast cones but detailed specific info provided by the National Hurricane Center. Detailed and Public advisories are available. I use this often during the summer and multi-times daily when storms are headed our way, like today with Hurricane Nichole!.Version: 1.15

GoTo App for Hurricane Forecasts and TrackingThis is an excellent app for watching models of approaching storms. Forecasts can change during the course if a storm but these are generally very reliable and it’s not surprising (though it probably should be) how close some long range forecasts turn out to be. I routinely check it for 16-day storm forecast tracks and the 16-day GPS model to get an idea if anything is brewing out in the Atlantic. These are well in advance of reports by any weather service. It has numerous forecasts and models (probably more than anyone could want or need). I love it!!!.Version: 1.7.17

Awesome appDoes really great job of consolidating and presenting tropical weather systems. Access to the GOES satellite in real time is great for seeing active weather systems. Live near Galveston so current information is critical. One app vs searching multiple sites is way more convenient and less stressful. Started with free version several years ago and have upgraded to the pro version. I would highly recommend either version. Developer is VERY good at quickly responding to questions. During the recent Laura/Marco assault on our area this app was heavily relied on..Version: 1.6.10

Excellent and necessary weather appI wish I had known about this app when lived in south Texas, where we were in the path of at least 4 hurricanes or tropical storms. If we still lived there I would subscribe to the Pro version. Viewing NHC information on my iPhone or iPad rather than having to access the NHC website makes this app very convenient. Information is easily accessible making it quite user friendly. The radars rock! Even though we now live in north Texas with no coast near us, this app is still a favorite..Version: 1.15

The BEST Storm trackerYou can not find a storm tracker that will give you more information than you will find in this app. I literally have thousands of apps, but very few I pay a fee to subscribe to. This is one that is well worth the subscription fee. Having used this for years I have found that this developer really cares about his app, as witnessed by the constant updates. Not just by clearing out small bugs that happen with any app, but by continually adding more function and more data sources to make this THE BEST STORM TRACKER APP..Version: 1.7.16

All time favorite app, till death do us partThis app is incredible, absolutely marvelous. Not only is it amazing at updating you on hurricanes all the way through their development visually, it also informs you on every detail in writing. It has satellite images of the entire United States, Mexico and Caribbean, as well as a few others and they are constantly updated. It even lets you know when there are typhoons on the other side of the globe. I can’t understand anyone that doesn’t love this app. It’s pure perfection. Get it. Don’t even think about it..Version: 1.4.1

The Best all Around Hurricane AppThe information provided in the Hurricane App is very compressive. It covers a lot of information in one location giving early warning to people in the project path of coming storms. The area of coverage is extensive and detailed for future projected path, expected intensity, and other weather that could effect the path way of storms that can develop into tropical and hurricane storms. Look no further for the best in kind application for PC, cell phone, and watch storm prediction. Thank you for such a great application..Version: 1.16

Vetted info. No hype or hyperboleI’ve lived in Florida for over 30 years. The most frustrating thing about hurricane season are the newscasters and their sponsors who make money with their predictions of doom and gloom. We lose confidence in them, and then fail to adequately prepare when the situation truly requires it. This app provides the information we need to know in an easily accessible format. It stays current and allows us to exercise our own judgment based on information from well established and respected sources..Version: 1.15

My go-to app in hurricane countryI live in South Florida and turn to this app first every time a tropical system approaches. There is no editorializing or commentary, just aggregation of National Hurricane Center and local weather service official publications — which is perfect. The NHC is amazing, but their website isn’t the easiest to navigate. This app centralizes the resources I need to help understand my risk. I’m giving 4 stars instead of 5 because, first, I’m a tough crowd, and second, there are a few small areas that could be made even better. For example, I’d like to see the location in the UI of Update and Local bulletins switched, and it would be nice if flood and storm surge products were more prominent (water kills more than wind!). Local watches and warnings would also be a great addition; they’re basically the only thing I need another app to check. Kudos and huge appreciation to the solo dev, who’s created a truly useful resource..Version: 1.15

Great app! Shows everything from spaceMy son lived in NOLA and this gives my by the second imagery when hurricanes head to the gulf. Plus I live in Southern California we’re in Palm Springs we don’t get much rain but it’s nice to know when it’s coming, and to see if a winter storm is on the way. You can see where the clouds are thick or thin. Are used to work on the satellite programs when I was in my 20s in aerospace and it’s nice to see it all come to fruition. They use GPS, internet and satellite tracking and more. Your app is the best I’ve seen so far. Marlene Mendoza.Version: 1.6.12

Category??I wish there was one update shot that is brief with just a few facts. Hard time finding the Category info and actual real-time data such as, what did the Hurricane hunter find for wind speed, at what time? Yes I know they only update a few times of day. Did the speed increase or decrease since last measure, did movement speed increase or decrease? Just a few quick details on a single screen would be extremely useful instead of having to go through pages of data. Everything else is plentiful. Maybe it is there and I am just looking in the wrong spot..Version: 1.1.12

Very nice, but...I really like this app, and it is the only one that shows me all the map and charts I want. Love the spaghetti map, which is hard to find online. The only problem is that after a few uses, it disables any touch commands on my iPad Mini4 and locks my iPad Air 2 in portrait mode without having the locked mode show up in the command panel or settings. For both problems, only a hard reboot will let me use the iPad again. I have seen this before in apps that only offer portrait view on iPads, and really hope that a landscape view will be a forthcoming improvement and bug fix..Version: 1.1.12

I love this appI live in the Florida panhandle and use this app every hurricane season. I went through hurricane Michael and it’s really important for me to stay up to date, I won’t be doing that again lol. The data is from national hurricane center so it’s reliable. I don’t have to watch so much of the tv news with their intense music and doom/gloom no matter what mentality. It’s a quick way to check on things as I go about my day. I also like how easy it is to switch between storms..Version: 1.15

Highly recommendIf you are looking for alerts and real-time information on hurricanes, I highly recommend this incredibly comprehensive app. Continual improvements are being made including new functionality and user interface improvements. And if you want even more there is a cost effective pro option that includes even more resources and views. The developer has been very responsive to any questions and suggests I have had..Version: 1.6.7

Accurate dataI’ve enjoyed this app and have found it to be accurate and a useful tool to navigate hurricane information without all the commercials of regular news /weather apps . Sticking to the data is the best plan when monitoring a storm. I’m in the middle of hurricane Dorian , ot is providing me with the most updated and accurate information . The app developer was kind enough to email a quick reply to a simple question I had . great customer service also... kudos to you !!.Version: 1.2.8

Worth it!I downloaded this app during Hurricane Ian. I was on a trip to Orlando, and I was very anxious we weren’t gonna get out in time. Even though I’m back in Pennsylvania, I still have this app downloaded! It’s amazing for tracking storms, INVEST storms, and even more. This developer is amazing with the app, and I love it! The only thing is that sometimes I can’t see the satellite that well, but otherwise, I think it’s awesome!! (P.S. we made it back to PA 24 hours before the storm hit. Thank God!).Version: 1.15

Split decisionI am on a sailboat in the Caribbean Islands and pay strict attention to hurricanes during the season. These graphic forecasts are a valuable addition to other resources, and has become my goto source. I do wish there was a way to connect through this app to the « spaghetti models » or that the land areas (islands) would be clearer, without having to make the cloud layer too transparent to be useful. Perhaps the outline of the land (lat and lon) as the topmost layer, would do it. With so many storms in the N. Atlantic, thé overlapping tracks become hard to read..Version: 1.6.10

Fantastic AppHaving a boat in an area susceptible to hurricanes, you need to have an app that allows for current accurate information when monitoring potential storm impact. This app is fantastic in allowing me to monitor storms and may impact the array where my boat is located and I also use it to track storms that may impact other areas since I have a PhF in Emergency Management and I am a Red Cross disaster responder and Emergency Management Coordinator. Highly recommend having this app..Version: 1.30

My go to app for hurricane forecastingI’m an emergency operations director. I found this app three seasons ago. It remains the best I have seen for timely summary and presentation of the info available from the NHC. During the season I’m on it daily and when our area is at risk I’m using it several times per day. This app, in combination with the my radar app, and the weather underground app provide me with forecasting equal to and sometimes superior to that provided by the local meteorologists..Version: 1.7.17

My GO To App for All thing Hurricane InfoI live in Florida. I need reliable info. Can’t always go by what TV news is saying. There is a big difference in wind speed on Coast and Inland. The stations report major impact along coast. People assume a hurricane has equal strength everywhere, all at once. It doesn’t. Having accurate and detailed info is important in determining a level of risk for specific area. Couldn’t do what I do without the detailed info I find in this app..Version: 1.35

BEST-EVERI’ve been a ‘weather bug’ ever since learning to fly small planes & land on grass runways & frozen lakes as a teenager in Michigan, and this - especially the variety of storm pathway/intensity modeling & forecast options - is the most innovative & feature-laden app I could ever imagine...& that’s just on the FREE part. So whether you’re flying, floating or driving, this is THE go-to Weather app to have on your pre-launch checklist for every trip, or for just staying inside & expertly tracking potentially dangerous storms. Thank you!.Version: 1.6.9

Absolutely the bestI live on coast of SC and I use this site everyday from early May till December to check what storms are brewing, and where they’re heading. During the peak of hurricane season I’m checking it multiple times during the day. It shows tracking of all the storms, even early potential problems off coast of Africa. It’s simple to access & gives me the info I need to make decisions for my home. I recommend it to anyone living on the coast!.Version: 1.7.17

Great App for Hurricane Tracking In the Atlantic, Caribbean and PacificWherever you live you can follow hurricane developments and see where the hurricanes are tracking. Not only for your own area but you can see what’s happening in the hurricane prone areas elsewhere where your family and friends live. Took me a few times to get use to all the available information in the app but don’t give up. It’s an extremely valuable tool..Version: 1.15

Very HelpfulI moved to a Hurricane area after retirement and I had no clue about what to look for or when to get out! Now with this app I know more than the local news does! I think the news stations just want excitement and viewers. This App shows you the true warning and direction or a storm. I would highly recommend this App for anyone wanting to know about storms in the Ocean. It is a lifesaver when it comes to Big Storms!.Version: 1.15

Great app!I grew up on the Gulf coast in the panhandle of Florida so have been watching weather and hurricanes my whole life. Now I live on North Caicos Turks and Caicos islands and yes still watching hurricanes! This app is the best I have found consolidating all the data in one place at your fingertips. I had one glitch recently and contacted the developer and he responded immediately with an email telling me how to fix it and it worked! I highly recommend it and the pro version!.Version: 1.7.15

Everything I need and want to know. While the TV “weather” people do their best to scare as many people as they can (and in the process cause people to disregard their warnings… did you ever hear that you should “never cry wolf”?), this app give the best information available and helps people prepare properly when needed. Weather can’t be forecast with 100% precision, but this app gives the best information possible. Thanks!.Version: 1.30

Exceptional Application for weather buffsI would like to just take a moment of my busy day to compliment you and your team on delivering quality weather related products. The scope and content of each application that I have installed so far are just right for interested beginners to experienced meteorologists. Great information for planning vacations, flying drones or fixed wing aircraft. Keep up the great effort in maintaining and developing new products..Version: 1.7.15

Great App For Those in Hurricane-Prone AreasI’ve had this app for over a year. It has been most helpful, and I don’t have to deal with TV meteorologists whose first priority is viewership. Graphics are easy to understand and up-to-date. My daughter who lives in Central TX called me today about the Pacific storm that is forecast to pass through her area. I immediately gave her the latest forecast from the graphics available here. Great job!.Version: 1.7.17

Way better than trudging through the web siteHave had this for a while, but TS Cristobal had me pull it out and really check it out. Seems to have everything I use. I know the NOAA guys work hard on the website, but it’s still a 1990s mostly Text, too busy, cryptic, and all too often multiple click paths to find something or even worse look up what something is. SMH Three thoughts to improve it. 1) (important to me) am old and zoom all the time on my iPad/iPhone. Needs zoom feature. 2) (nice to have) Would be nice if there was an info button with each product that includes either a simple description or pulls the website’s description and displays it. 3) (would pay extra) Add ability to download product in max res to a PDF file..Version: 1.6.2

Most responsive developer!I was surprised to see that the app did not support Central Pacific region. I emailed developer on Monday with request for Central Pacific region coverage. He wrote back the same day and indicated that he would add it. On Wednesday (today), I was able to download an updated version with coverage for Central Pacific region as well as ability to track unnamed storms, like that one that is passing below Hawaii today! Wow! Thank you for your incredible responsiveness and desire to improve your app!.Version: 1.0.13

FANTASTIC!I’ve been using this hurricane app for three years now. I used the free version for a year, and loved it so much that I’ve continually paid for it the last two years. It’s extremely accurate, gives you lots of easy to understand data, and is a must have for anyone living in a storm zone. I look forward to keeping this fantastic app for many years to come. GREAT JOB DEVELOPERS! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟.Version: 1.33

This app is superb and vital during hurricane seasonReally well done, the app has excellent information presented clearly. It includes layers of detail allowing the user to take a quick glance at conditions or go into the details of the forecast and the models that underlay it. I use it on several Apple devices including a large tablet and it works perfectly on all. I would not go into storm season without it..Version: 1.30

Comprehensive and user friendlyWe live on the East coast and regularly bareboat charter in the Caribbean and Central America. This app is an indispensable part of our planning and monitoring of developing systems in the Atlantic. I keep a slew of weather apps on my phone, but really only need this and Dark Sky (sadly soon to go the way of the DoDo due to Apple buying their technology and discontinuing their superior interface) for all of my weather needs..Version: 1.15

Fascinating!Got this app because I wanted to see spaghetti models and other actual data re: approaching storms, not hear “interpretations” of the data from my local news outlets. I was surprised to find this app simply fascinating - I have learned so much about weather and how data is collected and presented. The app is well-designed, clear and concise, easy to navigate, with timely updates and minimal ad intrusions..Version: 1.15
