Benny Greb, well known for his contributions to the drumming education community, shared the approach he has taken to develop his sense of groove and improve his timing on his instrument in his course "The Art and Science of Groove." Now with the Gap Click app, everyone can practice his method easily using this intuitive app!

Unlike standard metronomes, which only provide time, Gap Click helps you improve your sense of time. Gap Click is more than a metronome that focuses on improving your ability to keep tempo, become more aware and comfortable with off-beat clicks, and become bulletproof and accurate with all notes of the subdivision.

GAP CLICK
By scrolling through the numbers of bars and patterns, you can quickly configure a "gap" of time in which the metronome drops out. When the "one" comes back around, will your playing still be in time? How long of a gap can you play through and still maintain a solid tempo?

MOVING CLICK
Next, you can experiment with all kinds of off-beat patterns in the Gap Bar, which moves the click from the downbeat position to a different location. Can you still play your instrument and maintain the downbeat internally even when you hear the click sound on an off-beat?

Both the "click" and the "gap" portion supports various syncopated patterns, allowing you to practice in binary or ternary rhythms - with more or less safety depending on your settings.

Features
• Ability to choose from various syncopated patterns and the number of measures for both the standard "click" and the "gap."
• Use the nostalgic click wheel to find the right tempo or tap to set your desired tempo from 10 to 300bpm
• Standard quarter-note time signatures: 2/4, 3/4, 4/4, 5/4, 6/4, 7/4
• Support for VoiceOver ensures Gap Click is fully accessible to users with visual impairments

Personalize
• See visual feedback for each note or rest that the metronome plays
• Accent beat 1 of each measure or turn accents off for a more significant challenge
• Flash the screen for a visual indication when switching between the "click" and the "gap" sections
• Find your favorite sound from a variety of click samples hand-picked by Benny

Buy Once, Use Forever
• There are no In-App Purchases - a one-time purchase includes all current and future features.

Gap Click by Benny Greb Positive Reviews

Very useful toolSo I just read that Benny Greb released this app and I was very intrigued. I love his drumming and sense of timing/groove. I mainly use the Soundbrenner metronome app but this is different than that. After installing and checking out the features I have found this to be an exceptional metronome app tool for timing development. First, there isn’t any other mobile metronome apps which can do this. Second, I was able to understand and navigate the app within a minute. The UI is very clean and simple to understand. The many options for subdivision are great with both duple and triple partials. The idea of alternating with gap measure subdivisions along with the click is genius. Third, very easy to change the tempo either you using the arrows or scrolling the circle around (like the classic iPod). The tap tempo is also a useful feature. I know this just released so I cannot count this as a negative but the meters which can be selected are ONLY in simple meter. 3/4 up to 7/4. Would be nice (and I’m sure in future developments) to have compound meters such as 3/8 up to 12/8 to allow for beat groupings. Notably 5/8 or 7/8. (3/8, 6/8, 9/8, 12/8 can kind of be felt with the 4/4 in triplets). Otherwise this is awesome and look forward to using this app while practicing. I’ll be sure to add more to this come future developments! Congrats..Version: 1.0

Been waiting for this one! This is a great app!!! I first learned about the gap click practice method from Antonio Sanchez and after hearing a lot of other musicians talking about it (including Benny Greb) I started working on my time with the “Double Time” Metronome and the “Time Trainer App”. When this one came out though I had to check it out. It’s really good and it has some features that the other’s don’t, including being able to place the click on different subdivisions (such as the “e” or “a” beat). I also really love the different time signatures you can put in, which is what was missing in the other met apps. As far as improvements, I will say I would like the option to put those e’s and a’s on the 1st bar selection - in fact probably mirror the options in both selection wheels. Other than that, the layout is very simple and beautiful. I’m enjoying it overall so far..Version: 1.0.1

Could use more time signatures and higher max tempoThis isn’t the metronome to use when working on complex prog tunes with changing meters, but it wasn’t designed for that. I don’t expect this to be a full-featured metronome, and there are other apps for that. However, it would be nice if there were a wider selection of time signatures. I can’t imagine it being a big deal to give users the ability to simply type in the number of beats per measure, for anyone who sometimes plays in 11 or whatever. Also, the tempo only goes up to 250. The slightly imperfect workaround is to turn on 8th note clicks. If you play jazz, you can double the tempo by feeling the clicks as being on 2 and 4 only, although sadly I’m not used to that yet. That said, it’s great despite its limitations. It’s been fun and frustrating to discover just how unsteady my jazz ride pattern can get when I’m playing in the 300+ range, or how certain licks cause me to rush or drag..Version: 1.0.5

Incredible App!I love this app. This is something that I’ve been looking for for a long time. The design is super simple, and makes the app very easy to figure out. I love the changing color display as well. My only complaint is the lack of features. I hope in the future that more time signatures can be implemented, as well as more subdivisions in the “content” section. This would make the app all the more useful. It would be nice if you could add more than 8 bars as well. However, despite these downsides, the app is incredible, and such a great tool for any musician..Version: 1.2.2

Great and Innovative AppI really like the design of the app. It gives you everything you need in a metronome and then some. The customization of the sound is really nice, as well as the ability to add in silent bars. The only big issue is that you have to have the phone on in order to hear the metronome. It would be great if you could close your phone and still have the app running. Regardless, I’d recommend this app to anyone looking for a metronome application..Version: 1.2.2

Best app everI’ve had this app for only 2 full days and I’m already seeing improvements in my timing. 😮. If you think you have good timing, this will really put you in your place. This is now my new favorite app. Metronomes don’t help much with timing for me so when I saw this I was skeptical I thought I have good enough timing then I saw it was sooo cheap so I bought it. The next thing I know, I’m realizing that my timing is not as good as I thought. I’m already way better. Thank you Benny Greb.Version: 1.0.2

Instant benefitWhile this may not have the bells and whistles of a really nice metronome, this thing is still an amazing tool. I saw instant improvement in my soloing and fills and just timekeeping in genera…. after a few practice sessions. it has proven itself to be an Absolutely essential practice tool going forward.Version: 1.4

Great app! Just one detail. This is a great app! By far Benny is one of the most influential drummers from the last decade. I do like the GAP concept and how it helps to improve timing and consistency. I just wonder if they can add a timer in the settings menu. As a musicians is crucial to work on a variety of things. And being able to keep on track how much time we focus on one specific thing, helps to improve time practicing..Version: 1.2.2

Can’t leave app/lock phoneThis app would be wonderful if you could leave the app or lock your phone, and the metronome kept playing in the background. Sometimes I need to reference a photo of sheet music, save battery by locking my phone, or use the camera on my phone to record myself, and I’d love for the metronome to keep running when I do those things. Hoping this is an easy fix that gets added soon!.Version: 1.2.2

Great ClickJust got this and haven’t used the more advanced features, but being able to drop the clock out is an incredibly valuable feature. No other clock i now does this and it’s SO good for my timing, ear, and sensitivity. A really good tool for real improvement..Version: 1.0.3

AMAZING!This app will quickly expose any timing issues you may have, which is great because then you’ll know what you need to work on! The UI I very simple and straightforward 👍🏻 definitely worth the price.Version: 1.0.5

Useful, Simple, Cheap......what more could you ask for? I have so many metronome apps and this one is truly unique..Version: 1.0

Game ChangerThis is amazing, this app makes it so much easier to take drumming to the next level!.Version: 1.0

The best!!Campers have been waiting for this app, and it doesn’t disappoint. As expected from Benny, one app that is versatile and as fun as it is challenging!.Version: 1.0

It’s from Benny. Come on now.Anything from Benny that has to do with groove is way worth it, and at 2.99. It will be the best investment.Version: 1.0

Sieze the time!Wonderful app indeed. Any chance of including feature on iWatch?.Version: 1.0.1

Time signatures.Good concept. Sorely lack more more/custom time signatures. Hopefully they’ll update and fix this..Version: 1.0.5

Must-HaveBest mobile rhythm app I’ve found yet!.Version: 1.0.1

Great App, Needs a few thingsGreat app and clean UI. It just need more subdivisions (5s, 7s etc). More complex time signatures would be nice too..Version: 1.0.3

A Must HaveI started playing drums 5 years and 9 months ago. For the first 5 years and 4 months, I always practice with a metronome. In a way, I was limiting myself. A few months ago I was recommended to try to stretch myself a little bit and practice without one. That was great for me and my development, and a lot of fun. It also affords a lot of freedom and spontaneity, which is important. I noticed though that whenever I tried to go back to the metronome I’d find it boring. I just lost that connection with it, and I felt like I might just never again be interested in using a metronome. I saw Benny’s video on YouTube and figured ah, what the heck, I’ll get it. Have to say I have zero regrets because this thing is a blast and makes playing with a metronome fun, creative and challenging. The user interface is simple yet layered, and affords a ton of possibilities to the user. Additionally, the design is pleasing to look at so that’s never a bad thing. Overall, I highly recommend the Gap Click. I’m excited to finally be excited to use a metronome again, and I can see that this will really improve my groove and timing. Thanks Benny and your dev team!.Version: 1.0.5

Incredible toolThis thing just kicked my ass! Do you think you have good timing? Nope, you’re wrong. And this will prove it to you! I’ve never had so much fun being destroyed in my practice session. And there is almost limitless potential in the creative ways you can utilize this in your practice. This is by far the best money I’ve ever spent on a practice tool, worth so much more than what they are charging. Buy it! But I warn you, this thing will destroy you and send you back to square one, practicing on the fundamentals. It will make you a better musician, I guarantee it!.Version: 1.0.2

Best metronome there is.This app is hands down the best metronome I’ve ever used. It helps you build a rock solid internal metronome. It is extremely powerful but not bogged down with useless buttons to tweak. It is elegantly and simply designed..Version: 1.4.1

Liquid goldThis app builds your internal clock like no other. It’s also extremely easy to use and looks great. Fantastic work Benny!.Version: 1.2.3

Great! Some recommendations though...I love it! Definitely a convenient way to learn different subdivisions and internalizing various bpm’s. Would wish though for a few things if possible: 1) For the content to not be slip between the “CLICK” and “GAP”. It sacrifices the simplicity of the interface but it adds more exercises that can be done with it. 2) For the option of changing the bars for each “CLICK” and/or “GAP” repeat. It would be nice to cycle through different subdivisions while playing the same thing over and over to cement your understanding of that beat/rhythm. 3) For more (maybe even custom?) subdivisions. Especially for 16th notes, it would be nice i.e. on the ‘e’ and ‘a’ of every for 16th note grouping per whole note (1e+a)..Version: 1.0.3

This app will change the way you hear music! This is my new go-to metronome. Gap click exercises improved my internal clock, my confidence, as well as my creativity around my drum set. This app makes it incredibly easy and convenient. It is slick and highly versatile. Highly recommended and worth the money..Version: 1.0
