Lockdown blocks trackers and badware in all your apps, blocking an estimated 100 million trackers per month for over 300,000 people.
— Comprehensive Protection —
Lockdown has two privacy features: Firewall and Secure Tunnel VPN. Each feature protects you from different threats, creating the complete solution for protecting your personal data, browsing history, and sensitive connections.
FIREWALL — Blocks Hidden Trackers: The world's first on-device, open source blocker that stops ads, trackers, and badware in all your apps.
SECURE TUNNEL VPN — Keep Your Data and Browsing Private: It's the no-logs, blazing-fast, privacy-first VPN. The only VPN to prove its Privacy Policy and be fully audited.
— BASIC FIREWALL FEATURES —
- Simple, one-tap to get protected against thousands of trackers for most users
- Fully customizable blocking for advanced users: block any domain / service
- Works for all apps, not just the browser
- Useful preconfigured block lists that are updated every week
- Blocking works "on-device" meaning it does all of its blocking without sending all your data to a third party server, unlike other blocking apps
—ADVANCED FIREWALL FEATURES—
- Import and create your own custom lists
- Export your custom lists to share with others and save offline
- Block thousands more trackers
- Access to advanced curated lists and app specific block lists (e.g. TikTok, iFunny, Junes Journey)
— SECURE TUNNEL VPN FEATURES —
- Hide your location and unique IP address with one tap
- Keeps you safe on public wi-fi hotspots and sites
- Stops spying from snoopers and your ISP or cellular provider
- Ultrafast with over a dozen regions globally
— TRANSPARENCY YOU CAN TRUST —
- Other privacy apps lie on their Privacy Policy and secretly sell user data, even if they promise not to
- To solve this issue, the Openly Operated certification requires apps to *prove* their Privacy Policy
- Lockdown is Openly Operated certified with a public 38-page audit report, and audited multiple times by security professionals
— UNPARALLELED PRIVACY —
- Open Source: Since firewalls have access to *everything* you do, it's critical that any firewall you use should be open source. Lockdown is 100% open source.
- On-Device: Lockdown Firewall doesn’t connect to any servers. No logs of your browsing are sent to third parties or to our servers when using Lockdown Firewall.

Lockdown Privacy: AdBlock VPN App Comments & Reviews
Lockdown Privacy: AdBlock VPN Positive Reviews
Stopped Working In Background..(UPDATE)UPDATE: I figured out with some trial & error that this app will continue to block trackers in the background but only if you have the VPN “secure tunnel” activated in the app with “background app refresh” turned on. The “Firewall” must also be turned on. If you only have the “firewall” activated but not the VPN “secure tunnel”, it does not seem to block trackers like Facebook that collect data on you while you sleep. I’m adding one star. It would be great if they made the firewall work by itself in the background because I’d rather not use a VPN at home, but I can live with it for now. Overall, I really like this app & company and recommend this product. 1st review: I’ve been using Lockdown for about six months now. At first, I thought it was amazing. It would block many add trackers like Facebook and Google, even while I slept at night. However, I noticed recently that those trackers stopped showing up in my “tracking log” each morning. “App Background Refresh” is turned on, but it makes no difference. Nothing seems to be getting blocked unless I am actively using my phone. This is a big concern, and I hope they can figure out what’s going on or I will need to start looking at other options..Version: 0.4.2
It simply stopped workingAfter 3 weeks of the app it simply stopped blocking any trackers, I would go into the app and it would show the firewall is off and it would turn back on only to still not block any trackers whatsoever. It was working great beforehand but then it kept forcing me to connect to the vpn that I wasn’t subscribed to and it keeps connecting me to the vpn but since I didn’t pay for it my phone doesn’t have access to the internet on top of e firewall not working. Hopefully this gets addressed in the future because as of now this app is slowing down my phone. Update: ok so I even got the vpn trial and I turned off low power mode and I turned background app refresh on and it STILL won’t turn on the firewall. What do I have to do to get it to turn on?.Version: 1.2.3
Extreme Design Unique App!Seems like now Days I am always rushing trying to get somewhere. CaregiverHere's the thing: I'm a caregiver to both my elderly parents and sometimes I need to just get away or destress. I love coloring by number and I have a couple apps I like and would love to just start coloring and lose myself for a few minutes. What I don't like is ads constantly interrupting me while I do this, so here comes Lockdown Yayyyy!!!! I was so excited when I found this app and so appreciate how it blocks ads on my iPhone and on the internet. This app is so needed on everyone's phone in my opinion. So thank you so much Lockdown for a beautiful much needed app😬! 2nd Review: I still think Lockdown is a 5 star because nowhere in AppStore have I found anything that will do what lockdown does! I realize that it is not cheap making or updating an app like this but at this time I cannot afford a subscription, or at least not an expensive one. I’m a caregiver and it just takes all I make n have to live everyday and care for my parents. But again in my opinion, this is a must on everyone’s phone. Thank you Lockdown for a superb app, for me it is everything 😀!.Version: 1.4.1
Great app…I have been dealing with hacking issues for the better part of two years now…most of it being harassing and I do believe I know who it is, though I’ve been told time and time again there’s nothing I can do about it. Apple, isn’t any help, though they’ve confirmed I’m hacked. I do know my “hack” isn’t a hack. RT BUDDY (look it up) and I’m sure there’s more. I know I’m “geofenced” as my phone acts up when I’m on the move. I’ve changed phones, numbers, SIM cards…nothing changes. Since getting this app…I have regained about 85% control of my phone again. It does still get turned off from time to time…(remotely?). The program works. No doubt. I’m not confident the updates are actually updating…i do manually input blocks as I come across them. I could use more help, perhaps understanding my situation better. I’ve reached out with emails…no response as of yet. Again…this has given most of the control back to me, but I want more. More stars if customer support existed. J..Version: 1.2.4
Works So Great That iFunny Is Asking Me To Uninstall ItIFunny seems to use way more resources on my phone than it should even need, most likely because it’s trying to track my activity or do other nefarious things in the background. Since installing this app, my phone has been faster while using iFunny, and my phone doesn’t physically heat up when using iFunny anymore either. Recently iFunny has started displaying a pop up when I open the app asking me to uninstall Lockdown to “use iFunny safely”. They are claiming that my phone is open to security risks and that because I am using the Lockdown app my personal data is vulnerable, which is absolutely hilarious because obviously iFunny is doing the shady stuff and Lockdown is messing it up for them. Overall great app!.Version: 1.2.4
VPN works but the app doesn’tI’ve used this VPN for a few years now. One thing I can positively say about this app is that I’ve rarely had ads that fully get around this VPN, as in, never had all ad placements in any app/web page that act like the VPN isn’t even on. I’ve had a few ads sneak by every now and then, but very rarely. I’ve had trust issues updating this app. Anytime I have, it cuts off my wifi from working when my phone isn’t unlocked and takes a minute for my wifi to work once it is unlocked. This has lasted anywhere from a week to a month after an update. Big oof, don’t like how it’s affecting my wifi. If it’s going to be iffy after an update, I’d rather have ads (the VPN not work) than have no wifi at all. A small issue is that it can take a while for ads to start working after I’ve purposefully turned off this VPN. Makes sense but still. The most recent (and major) issue I’ve had it’s that the app isn’t loading at all. I’m still getting the benefits of the VPN, but the app gets stuck in the title screen. Can’t even turn the VPN off except through my phone’s own settings. I’ve tried the app for weeks now. The obvious thing I should do is uninstall the app and redownload, but I’m hesitant if all that’s going to do is give me weeks of my wifi not working. :/.Version: 2.0.6
Functionality ConfusionThe app appears to be divides into two sections, a Firewall and a VPN. If you want both. Your golden. If you are looking for something to just block the litany of domains contacted by your apps, its a little more complex. It automaticall wants to add vpn config, even though you never turned vpn on - dont like it. It is defaulted to connect on demand - dont like it. After more scenarios than i can describe here, i finally got the firewall to run alone, no vpn. I get the sense that wont last though, we’ll see. The idea of an app firewall is great and with the added information in apples’ app privacy report, you can visualize just how much something in this realm is needed. It just doesn't need to be complex to do what it needs to do. I would submit the suggestion that dev separate these features or at least allow them to operate on a more clear stand alone basis..Version: 1.5.1
Sudden issueI love the app as it’s been very effective even at blocking the colors and trackers that number in the hundreds of thousands on the apps I use but suddenly it seems to have stopped working. As soon as I exact the lockdown app the firewall turns off and when I manually reset it it seems to be working but then I notice it shuts off again. Has the recent update caused this to happen? Update: I saw one of the top reviews suggest a fix was activating the VPN and firewall at the same while making sure the background app refresh is on but it only seems to be as bad or worse and the apps I’m most concerned about are running over the firewall or it is turning off on its own entirely..Version: 1.2.5
Lockdown is essential in today’s worldBy now you’ve probably heard all the privacy issues companies such as Facebook and Google are causing by harvesting and selling your personal information. It almost seemed impossible for privacy to exist in a smart phone world with so many entities tracking your every move. Lockdown has provided an amazing way to take back and protect your right to privacy. This app is great. Such an innovative idea and it works great with my existing VPN. A much needed tool in the balancing act between having access to information while not allowing providers to compromise your personal privacy and security. This latest version is super solid and allows the rest of my phone to continue to access Apple mail and my other essential services while giving me the peace of mind to know I can control my information by limiting the trackers that booby-trap the Internet. I don’t usually leave reviews but when I do it’s for a product so awesome, I want to support it to ensure it remains available to help protect our privacy from the prying eyes of private corporations. Thank you Lockdown!.Version: 0.1.3
Drained batteryI loved this App but lately is draining my battery. Is actually using 72% of my battery power and my battery goes dead in just a few hours. I’m going to have to delete it in order to get better and longer use of my phone’s battery. I found the solution to the battery drain problem on my own. Since it seemed like this problem happened after an upgrade (can’t pinpoint which) I decide to delete the App, which immediately helped, since my battery now lasted for almost two day. Then waited several months, on the hope that the problem would be resolved by developers at a later upgrade. After a few months I reinstalled the App and kept an eye on the battery use. It is still the highest battery user, since is on all the time, but it no longer gobbles up the battery. Had the battery drained as fast as before I would’ve deleted the App and given it up for good. Right now is working fine and my battery last all day without totally draining. Good job to whoever fix the issue. Kudos to you!.Version: 2.0.6
Recent Update IssuesLockdown was working well for me for a long time. Certain apps would start overheating my phone without the firewall. However, I just had to uninstall it today because something about the VPN connection was causing me to have no internet connection via cell data. Turning off the VPN and restarting my phone would fix it but once I tried turning it back on, the issue persisted through restarts so I had to remove the app entirely. Side note: Facebook messenger doesn’t open at all while the firewall is enabled. I had stopped really using messenger anyway so it wasn’t a big deal..Version: 2.0.6
Great appUpdate: I’ve stress tested the latest version and can’t find any issues. It “just works”, invisibly doing what it should. Great update! —————— I’m amazed at how much evil web traffic was going out my phone. This app stops it cold. Simple install and easy to set up - one button and a few options. Some growing pains for a new app but their support is very responsive and helpful. They are improving the app constantly. I love that you can set it and forget it. The only thing that ever broke for me was Mail and they had a updated version with a fix the next day. This should be a default install for every iPhone user!.Version: 0.2.0
A good work in progressI like that the blocking component is free and only the vpn service costs money. What I don’t like is the inability to whitelist individual domains. If you see a domain being blocked and it’s causing in app problems (like the games that give you bonuses for watching a 30sec clip), you have no way of easily figuring out which list that domain sits in. Then you can only set the entire list from being ignored, which defeats the purpose of having this app. If there were an option in the log to select and authorize the hostname or domain or a separate ignore list where you could add one off domains that would be useful..Version: 0.4.2
Six stars ( now 0 stars - see update)Have had this firewall on two phones for 18 months and it‘s worked almost flawlessly on both. Initially, it didn’t play nice with my existing VPN; couldn’t run both at the same time. But once I switched the VPN protocol to IKEv2 from OpenVPN, both apps were able to operate simultaneously without one or the other disconnecting. UPDATE: The latest update has ruined this app. Battery usage is extreme, blocking is curtailed, custom blocking has been removed, and the phone is forced to use Cloudflare without the users knowledge..Version: 2.0.3
Stopped working?I’ve been using lockdown a lot for I don’t even remember how long, but today I’ve started to notice it not blocking ads it used to for the second time. Reached out once and got an email back saying they were working on it. In the meantime, went through the phone and blocked a bunch of stuff manually, which worked. However today I’ve noticed that the firewall seems to simply be turning itself off? Privacy report in the phone shows trackers that used to be blocked no longer being blocked, and ads are coming back like crazy. Did something happen? Maybe this new update messed something up?.Version: 1.3.4
Amazing it really works! Oh yea! After I bought my iPhone at the phone company store I used the phone for a few years without any idea . I had a vpn service , a some what good vpn. However I read this story in the NYT Last December about how all these people including myself were being tracked all over the place by leaky apps. I know they say that we gave them permission oh my. But I had no idea after you delete an app it keeps tracking you!!!! Oh my goodness . I started to look for something to help. I found this Lockdown app and lol It shows all the analytics for each day that it blocks and wow it really does what it says it does. I am surprised that our trusted retailers the biggest online names are hacking us for every and anything they can get. Sad to know that they really are the insidious crowd . No I am not sorry I got this app. Thanks Johnny Lin and Partners for making this app. You deserve real public service award 🥇 Thankyou.Version: 1.2.1
My favorite appWatching lockdown accumulate blocked connections is as satisfying as playing some mobile games. I've had the app for almost exactly 6 months and have nearly 10 MILLION blocked trackers. The only critique I have is that when I go on Google to try to shop, it blocks me from going to those Google product ads. It doesn't stop them from showing up, but I can't follow the link. I have to turn off the firewall to keep shopping. Not a big deal though. Love this app and love denying my information to data hungry corporations..Version: 1.2.3
Amazing VPN but..I’ve had this VPN for I don’t know 8 months now with well over 1 million trackers blocked! But I’ve been running into trouble the past couple of days. It seems the firewall keeps connecting and disconnecting every time I open the application, even outside of the app at times (funny enough seems to have done it as write this review now, fingers crossed this posts) I’ve also noticed that I now have 4 lockdown configurations in my VPN section (possibly related?) other than this strange occurrence, this VPN has been wonderful and very effective to use. Thank you!.Version: 1.2.4
Most useful app in the App Store for the privacy conscious!I wish it would tell you which apps are sending all these connections. I am disappointed with Apple’s responses to my privacy and security concerns about what my apps are doing on my phone. I won’t even get into it here, but suffice it to say Apple doesn’t really do their due diligence when it comes to security and privacy resolutions in the wild. I am continually left in the dark after reporting serious issues. We need more control over what these app developers are doing with our highly confidential data..Version: 0.2.9
Perfect!I had no idea the number of trackers or ad servers I was having - upwards of 40 each minute. I have always been concerned about privacy I am learning to relax a bit. That’s the Firewall at work. I have one movie/TV app that crashes when I start one. So, I turn off Lockdown, start the movie and immediately leave the movie. It works - back to block up to 40 trackers a minute. I love it when a site shows me what they think is my location (hundreds of miles away). That’s the Secure Tunnel at work..Version: 1.2.5
Pretty GoodI used this app for a couple of years now and it is very good, but I no longer need it. I have setup my own private DNS server. The server can do everything this app does and more so I will leave this last review before I go. A thing to note for all users reading this, you can save a lot of battery by turning off background app refresh in settings >> general >> background app refresh >> background app refresh again then click the green toggle to make it grey. The issue is this app requires that function to work..Version: 1.5.1
Best Privacy App in the App StoreAnyone who wishes to reduce the amount of tracking they are subjected to should get this app. It’s not perfect but it should be part of a defense in-depth approach to privacy. I wish the app blocked more trackers. I still see a lot of stuff getting blocked by PiHole that the app misses. When I leave my house I would like to retain PiHole quality blocking via this app. The app does allow me to add custom entries. This allows me to look at the worst offenders in the PiHole logs and add them to Lockdown. In spite of this limitation, it remains one of the best tracker blockers available for iOS..Version: 1.2.1
Great app!I appreciate this app, it provides an extra layer of protection to my internet life. It’s easy to use, however, the iPad version of the app is just an expanded iPhone version. This is frustrating because I use my iPad in landscape mode 100% of the time and I usually have something plugged into the bottom port, making it difficult to use the app. Granted, its not an app I have to constantly be looking at or use beyond turning it on...but it would be nice to at least have proper iPad support. Keep up the great work! I am happy to keep using this app on my iPhone and iPad..Version: 0.3.2
Security basicHi, Not sure how effective this is, but I am loving the fact that it’s blocking soooooooo many trackers on web pages. Also, go figure, it shows my location all over the place.... one minute i’m in Eastern Europe, the next minute, holy cow, i’m in Idaho. There’s probably other things you should be doing, like secure passwords, never use the defaults and such, but, let’s be real, 99% of people just aren’t going to make that effort. This? this is a download and two clicks and it covers some of your faux pas..Version: 1.2.2
It Just WorksI work in Trust and Safety and I've seen many a broken, insecure, or malicious app or extension claiming to be a privacy/security extension. Lockdown is one of those rare apps that does exactly what it promises to do and nothing more, without fuss, and without needing any regular attention. You just install it, do some quick one-time setup, and leave it be, and It Just Works. It is very rare these days to still be able to find "It Just Works" software, and I appreciate this one immensely..Version: 2.0.9
Simple and EffectiveThe free firewall has made a lot of apps like iFunny usable again. Even if privacy doesn’t concern you the battery life and overheating issues associated with the amount of data these apps track can be resolved using this firewall. I decided to pay for the VPN service as well. So far so good. I’m a relatively new user but I haven’t had any of the problems indicated in previous reviews. Thank you for designing this app. I hope with it being open source than continuous improvements are made..Version: 1.2.1
This is the OneI tried several ad blockers recently, even paid for one. But none of them could stop ads within apps, just Safari and I don’t use Safari as my default browser. This one works right out of the box without any setup other than turning it on. (I think I did have to pick a ad list provider.) Immediately stopped all kinds of ads everywhere. I can finally scroll meme apps without a barrage of in content ads..Version: 1.2.4
It worked, until it didn’t . . .For reasons I could never determine, the firewall continuously disconnected, although the tunnel stayed connected. With the new update, I wasn’t able to access the App Store, and some other apps that I use in a daily basis. It took almost an hour with Apple tech support, and the next level up, to determine it was the VPN causing the issues. I disconnected both the firewall and the tunnel, and everything started working again. This is on an iPhone XR and iPad Gen 7. I hope this issue can be resolved quickly..Version: 1.1.1
Great idea, but not if you use your VPNI get it - the VPN service is what pays for the app development and it's a great app for 99% of the users - simple to use, nicely (and almost invisibly) integrated with iOS. If, however, you use any 3rd party, corporate or actually 'private' virtual network configured from the VPN settings in iOS - you will not be able to use the app. Or the VPN - because they simply can not co-exist on single phone. As I run a private VPN to a private server on my phone 24/24, if I could configure my own VPN within Lockdown, I'd happily pay for such a feature..Version: 0.3.0
Ads and reduced privacyThis app used to be good for local use several years ago, but has become worse over time. They moved a few key block lists, like Facebook, WhatsApp , Snapchat, etc., behind the paid subscription (these were available for free before). Now they have a pop up ad for their paid subscription every time the app is launched. I don’t even know if the block lists are updating any longer when I tap on the notification, because the app opens and shows the ad to subscribe..Version: 2.0.13
Needs to show...It would be a huge bonus for the added functionality of showing what processes/services are dialling out to external servers. I've seen EXTREMELY ALARMING number of listing for connecting to Amazon when I have nothing opened/launched/backgrounded. I've blocked cancers to privacy like G**gle, F@b**k, and &m&zon because I'm sick and tired of our right to privacy has become a commodity. Please, please, please add the ability to identify transgressors to privacy. Great app, just needs a little more. M..Version: 1.2.3
Almost perfectWe just need a way to import a large list of urls, because manually typing each url is kinda painful.Version: 1.1.8
Often need to restart itLove this app, blocks nearly everything anywhere. My only issue is that sometimes it randomly stops, once to a few times a week I have to manually go in the app and start it again. Not sure why that happens, otherwise it’s a great app.Version: 1.2.4
Recent update (March 2020) with disconnection issuesApp works great until March 2020 when it repeatedly disconnects. Hoping for a stability fix to restore stability which wasn’t an issue until recent update..Version: 0.3.2
Seems to work for meI like it so far. Glad to see it’s blocking sketchy Facebook. One feature request I have, could you show more detailed stats on what is being blocked and maybe the source it came from? Other than that, A+.Version: 0.1.2
Very useful and greatI like it.Version: 0.3.2
DecentThe tracker blocking is great, I wish I could add apps to the list though. As far as the VPN goes it’s quite expensive given all the other choices out there. Maybe they’ll come up with a multi-year bundle on par with the likes of NordVPN or VyperVPN. I also have no idea what the difference between the pro and regular VPN is..Version: 0.2.9
Blocked all my iMessages over wifiWish you lots of luck. Great idea but i didnt get a single iMessage while this was on. Turned it off and dozens showed up at once..Version: 0.1.1
Omg lockdownOng this is working on Crunchyroll and not only safari tysm my n.Version: 2.0.16
Why remove the custom ip address blocking featureI really don’t know the reasoning behind only allowing to block domain instead of ip but it’s a huge setback.Version: 2.0.12
Perfect for mobile gamesGot this about 10 min ago and it blocks every single ad on my mobile games. Games are so much more fun without the annoying ads.Version: 2.0.8
I wish Lockdown VPN would stay activated!!!In one day of installing lockdown it stopped over 1000 trackers. Not a bad showing. The one issue that Lockdown needs to address is the fact their Secure VPN Tunnel keeps disengaging itself. Another thing Locked should do is give the app the ability to show the user the list of trackers, and other intrusive risks it has stopped. Outside of that Lockdown seems to be a good application doing its Joe, because when you do an IP leak test at ipleak .net it shows your Canada server location in the middle of a park in Montreal Canada. That what I like to see when I run an up leak test. Not my true location. So do me a favour, and fix the VPN Tunnel disengaging problem please!! Thanx Lockdown..Version: 2.0.6
Has potentialThis app has a lot of potential, but is lacking in several areas. There are not many blocklists included, and the ones that are included are quite short and limited compared to other DNS blocking solutions. The ability to configure blocklists would be helpful. While you can add enable or disable pre-existing blocklists, you cannot add new ones. Another huge downside is that you cannot setup a custom DNS server. The app will default to whichever DNS server the network you’re connected to is using. This is not good for privacy. Also, I think the VPN that they offer should be separated into a different app..Version: 1.3.4
Free onboard firewall, but -Developer says the free portion of the app is all onboard, but it prevents any other VPN (other than the paid version optional on the app) or DNS service from working. It’s been posted in Reviews before, but still nothing. Too bad it’s ignored..Version: 1.3.2
Pretty coolI really the idea. My only issue is that there is no persistent "on". Once in a while I go back to the app only to discover that it has been off since I don’t know when. Probably when I switched from cellular to wifi, but that’s a guess since it doesn’t tell me..Version: 1.2.2
Used 7 GB for some reason?Used a ton of data I’m not sure why.Version: 1.2.4
Good butWhat can’t I use it with my VPN of choice? It turns off my VPN when I enable the firewall. If it can work with YOUR VPN, it can work with others. Not cool..Version: 1.2.3
Open-source firewallThank you for this amazing app. Most likely the only one of it’s kind on the App Store..Version: 1.2.1
