Great port bad controlsIt’s a great port of doom2 but the controls aren’t that great. I have gotten used to the touch controls but it took quite some time. If the developers aren’t gonna fix them. At least enable a way to connect a blue tooth keyboard and mouse. Keyboard and mouse does work but you can’t turn or fire your weapon. I feel like it’s such a low effort fix. They should also allow button mapping for touch controls as well. The activate button is in a weird spot on the screen. I’m just hoping they take all these comments into consideration since 90% of them are complaining about the controls. Oh and one more thing! Controls are better now, but...First off, I’m going to say, this is an EXCELLENT port of Doom II! I really appreciate this last update, especially brining back the classic title screen! Now, this update made the controls and map FUNCTIONALLY WAY better than before, and the gameplay is all the better for it and much appreciated, BUT the downside is that AESTHETICALLY the control and map button icons are really bland looking. I would recommend the following: - Using the in game open bare fist sprite for the pickup/interact hand button control. - The LOOK (not the functionality) of the joystick in the last version for the current joystick, but keep the functionality of the current joystick. -Maybe add some color (but still be transparent enough to see through) to the shoot bullseye button. - The map function WORKS great but it would LOOK better as a roll or grid map icon (in color as well). -Lastly, an option to adjust control size, location and transparency would be much appreciated. Overall, this is a fantastic port of a ln undisputed gaming classic and the latest update is certainly appreciated and most definitely a step in the right direction. Not digging the new controls.I’m glad Doom 2 finally has an iPhone port, but I wish they’d kept the mappable control scheme of the original Doom port from a few years back. I used to map it so it was just like this new control scheme, except I’d just slide my right thumb up to fire, and it worked perfectly. This double tap to autofire thing is kinda dumb considering half the arsenal is automatic weapons and a lot of the enemies require concentrated fire. The rhythm that you have to double tap is also oddly specific, far too slow for the kind of quick reaction time this game requires on Ultra Violence. Half the time I get it to work, it’s by accident, which made Barrels of Fun exactly the wrong kind of hell. The analogue movement makes thin platforms like in The Chasm a lot easier to navigate though, so that’s a plus. I second adding custom controls!Great game obviously, not going into the history of it once again, but these controls don’t do the gameplay justice. Matter of fact, they are so sluggish and accidental that they full on drag the experience down. For example, it’s like playing electric guitar and having to hold it up at the same time because you didn’t buy a strap - playing’s almost impossible. These controls are like the equivalent to that. The gameplay indeed suffers as a result. If we could adjust the size and position like others have said, that just might be crazy enough to work! Please add custom Contols Settings!!!Nothing crazy but adding the option to move some of the buttons on the screen like the shoot and action button to make it bigger smaller or just move it where ever the user would like. Another alternative could be adding the option to just tap the right side of the screen to shoot, it’ll be more comfortable especially for somebody like me with big hands. I keep missing the shoot and action button cause of my thumb covering the buttons. Joystick and bullseye icons are my only complaintI love this game! My only complaint is that you cannot adjust the transparency or just turn off the joystick and bullseye icons. They are really distracting and make the screen look like a cluttered mess. I don’t believe in the previous ports that this was an issue, as there was an option to turn them on or off. Please give control optionsHonestly I’ve been waited for Doom II on iOS for a while and for the original Doom port to be updated to work. And my prayers have been answered... almost. I’m so pumped to have these games now, but the control scheme has been updated and it is terrible. To top it off there are ZERO options to change it. Why? The word to describe this game is insane!!!This is the first time that I play Doom, the only thing I can say is incredible. AWESOME!!!! When played with an external controllerI just recently learned you can play this with a PS4 controller and it. Is. AWESOME! Controls are so crisp and clean, and Doom II is a classic for a reason: the game is amazing. So if you have a PS4 controller lying around (or presumably any Bluetooth controller) I STRONGLY recommend this as a five star buy. I’m giving it three stars because with default controls … well. You can have fun playing with God Mode enabled or on “I’m too young to die” difficulty, but besides that it’s basically unplayable. The fire button on the right side is so tiny you cannot fire at will. Then on the left side the fire button is so close to the “use” button that you waste ammo constantly when trying to open a door (or take a rocket to the face) With an external controller this game is AMAZING. PS4 be iOSI launched my PS4 versions of DOOM and DOOM II to see that it’s actually 60FPS and the controller support is on-par. These changes don’t seem to be implemented in the iOS versions of the games. I was wondering if 60FPS and better controller support (at least for DualShock 4) would be implemented. Love how it’s actually 60FPS on console. In the new release notes for these apps, they say 60FPS, yet they still produce 35FPS. AmazingIt’s like going back to the 90s, totally worth the $4.99. Even has an option to activate the old school cheats like “god mode” and “give everything”. I don’t have any issues with the controls which seems to be the main complaint in the App Store - because I use it with an xbox controller. iPads and iPhones now support xbox one and PS4 Bluetooth controllers which has been a huge jump in using them for gaming. Good game, but control is a challengeI was waiting for a while to play Doom 2 on IOs. Before I was playing the previous Doom version. I really liked the different options of the control. So I found the right setting for me. But at the moment the control is quite a challenge, due it can‘t be changed. Auto fire is nearly impossible for me to use. So no chain gun or plasma rifle for me. Almost perfect!The original game was the perfect run and gun action shooter. This version brings all that back with the exception of auto fire. The huge rooms full of monsters require an auto fire from either the chain gun or plasma rifle. Both are extremely weak when shot in single click bursts. WhyWhy I’m giving a 5 star. because it’s Doom 2 and it’s in my hands. The controls definitely do need work, it’s hard to do the double tap to get automatic weapons to keep firing but it’s only a minor annoyance for me. I was thinking 3D Touch to shoot. New contentYou should add arcade mode to both DOOM 1 and 2 because sometimes I want to replay some of the older levels but I need to start a new game and work my way up. Needs screen layout optionsWorthless game. Terrible control. No option to increase or decrease fire “button” or open-door “button” size. No option to move buttons around on screen. Turning on run all the time turns it off. Because i can’t increase fire button size I miss pressing it often, resulting in getting pelted by enemies that should end up dead. Why do I miss the fire button? Because I have to use my right thumb to turn my character, and it never seems to stay on the same place on the screen. And it would be nice if I could open doors with my right hand and not only my left. Also, I don’t want a fire button on both the left and right. I know a touchscreen isn’t an ideal way to play an fps, but giving the player options to change the screen layout would go a long way to making this a better playable game. Does Bethesda even care about this?I appreciate that Bethesda has released Doom II for iOS. It’s great to see that there is still life left in this classic! Unfortunately, it feels like a step back from the original Doom port. The game doesn’t expand to fill widescreen phones. There is no gyroscope or 3D Touch support, so it’s difficult to aim and shoot at the same time. The joystick requires a swipe across center to strafe, which can be frustrating when trying to move quickly. And, most glaringly, there is no multiplayer. Before [or after?] spending $5 on this game, check out “Marathon 2: Durandal” (which is a contemporary of Doom II and is free on the App Store) to see how well a retro shooter can play on iPhone..DecimalDaveVersion: 1.0

Controls are absolutely awfulI’m a veteran doom player, I’ve played every port out there over the years and this is easily the worst due to the controls. For one the iPhone can only handle so many inputs, so even if you somehow master the terrible controls you can’t play doom how it’s meant to be played. And another fatal flaw is you can’t sprint with 2 directions pressed at once (AKA strafe sprinting) which gives you faster running speed in the other versions which is absolutely required for some secrets. Do not buy. Until controls are fixedThe controls a really bad. You can’t fire automatic weapons unless you double tap the screen just right. You also have to turn left or right with the same finger you are shooting with. And you have press the center of the screen to open doors and turn switches. Where’s the multiplayer? Update - gone.(Updated to remove a star as references to multiplayer have been completely removed from App Store description. Cons: 1) The App Store description says there’s local 4 player multiplayer death match and co-op, but I can’t find it anywhere in the menus when running this on both iPad and iPhone on same WiFi network with Bluetooth enabled. 2) touch screen shooting mechanic doesn’t work well with knuckles or chainsaw. Pros: 1) works with my Nimbus Bluetooth controller! Key mappings make sense and work well, and don’t have issues with chainsaw with this input method. Ok controls but crashingRecently updated the controls which are a lot better than that god awful control scheme they had a few months back. Still not as tight or easy as the original iPad version though. I also think some customization for button sizes would be much appreciated. Would be 5 stars if…On the Nintendo switch version you can tilt the switch to aim it’s Alamo as accurate as a mouse. It’s the closest you’ll ever get to mouse aiming and could easily be added. Controls are awfulTapping to shoot works maybe 25% of the time. It's absolutely ridiculous that I am dying over and over again on the first level due to my taps not registering. The movement acceleration is just horrible too, you will go from Sloth to Sonic and vice versa constantly. Not to mention you will continue to move like you're sliding on an ice rink long after you let go of the movement side. Fix these three things, and the game will be so much better.
