A classic is reborn! With its introduction nearly a decade ago, Magellan pushed the boundaries of iOS technology and quickly took its place among the platform’s most popular synths. Continuing this pedigree, Yonac’s flagship Magellan Synthesizer 2 is a new alchemy of pristine sounds, innovative features, and devotion to user friendliness — all the same preserving the wicked soul of the original.

Cutting-edge synthesis technology, punchier tones, warmer filters, greater modulation options, AUv3, MPE, brand-new presets: these are just a few of Magellan’s features for a whole new era.

SIGNAL GENERATORS

Magellan’s beating heart is its three realtime virtual-analog oscillators: with their pulse width and blend parameters, the first two connect to a unique Timbre module to derive many additional waveforms. A special Oscillator Unison stage activates additional “secret” oscillators to supply up to 24 oscillators per voice — perfect for supersaws, or true chorus/flange effects obtained right at the synthesis stage. A fully configurable Maximizer module helps create even bigger stereophonic sounds by activating up to 120 simultaneous oscillators per voice.

FM

A powerful yet intuitive FM module gives life to Magellan’s unique hybrid design. With its very own ADSR and variable contour generator (with 3 different envelope shapes), it works as an additional sound source and transforms Magellan 2 into a very capable frequency modulation synthesizer. Combined with other oscillators and modulation features, it generates strong multi-layered textures impossible via subtractive synthesis alone.

FILTERS

Two independent filter banks, 11 different filters, series/parallel selection with variable balance — these newfangled filters incorporate nonlinearities and analog-derived quirks that impart them hefty servings of aural “sugar”. The addition of “FAT” controls helps give added gravitas and harmonic content. Dedicated ADSRs (with extra long maxes) feature A/B/C contour generators for totally different playing characteristics.

MODULATION

Twin LFOs, modulation envelope, as well as direct control: the backbone of a powerful and versatile modulation system that can take 16 simultaneous targets, each with its own variable amount. In addition, each LFO/Envelope target can be assigned a secondary control (including via MIDI) to dynamically vary or even “piggyback” its modulating signal. The inbuilt XY-pad can hit any pair of 140 parameters for realtime control, while the “EZ Velocity” module helps quickly dial in the right touch for amplitude, filters & FM.

SPAWN2

Second generation Yonac SPAWN unlocks the power of A.I. to help create countless original presets. Powered with an Expert mode, three different algorithms, and configurable machine autonomy down to module level, you can produce anything from subtle variations on a theme to wild new sounds with unrivaled “hit rate” — all at the touch of a button.

AUv3, MIDI & MPE

The ultra-efficient synth engine and flexible user interface are specially designed so that you can run many Magellans simultaneously in your favorite AUv3 DAW or Mixer. Along with massively featured MIDI I/O (complete with MIDI learn/recall, program changes, et al.), Magellan 2 is also MPE compatible with full polyphonic pitch control. Aftertouch and even CC74 are assignable through the mod matrices — and the new onscreen MagTOUCH MPE controller provides voice-wise expression not only within Magellan, but to other MPE apps/devices and inside compatible DAWs as well.

...AND MORE

Analog-inspired 32x4 step/pattern sequencer with gate, velocity and skip; ChordMaker with note matrix that maps one key into a chord; powerful, easy-to-use arp with live & program modes; FX rack featuring 10 stereo units and configurable signal flow; 360+ factory presets, with a bank custom produced by Sunsine Audio; Ableton Link, YPAT3 preset management, patch translator, app recorder are just a few more of Magellan Synthesizer 2 features.

Magellan Synthesizer 2 App Comments & Reviews

Magellan Synthesizer 2 Positive Reviews

Great jobI was hoping we’d get a Auv3 update to Magellan for the longest and don’t mind having to pay for a whole new app, tbh I was apprehensive at first because as much as I love Kasper and Kauldron I always have to go into the midi settings and turn of the hardware midi in when using them with Daws so they don’t play when I’m playing other midi instruments, happily that’s not the case with this. Idk if I can import all my user patches from version one yet. As the other other mentioned apps, it would be great if e could just not have to turn off hard midi when using them as audio units in Daws.🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼 Anyway great sounding and feature rich synth!!!.Version: 1.0

Great app, but....This appears to be a great new synth app except for the surprise the second time I used it. It starts with 366 presets, but eliminates 261 of them the next time you use it, so plan on the additional $6 IAP, especially when you have no idea which of the deleted presets are on which IAP. Please disregard the above as I opened the app again to find all of the presets were now working again. Obviously some user error here. I then purchased an IAP and received an additional 64 presets for a current total of 430 presets. Rating is now 5 stars. Good job, Yonac..Version: 1.0

Nice but..I had the first Magellan and bought all the expansions… but now I can’t download the expansions into the first app as it crashes when attempting. I’ve had this second installment since it was released and bought the expansions here… but now I’m wondering why my old purchases aren’t available as a restore in this one since they seem very similar to each other and since It will not let me restore them into the old version.. maybe this issue can be visited and hopefully a solution comes out of it.. holding my breath..Version: 1.1

A Pleasure to UseReally clicked last night how streamlined and fun this thing is to create with, and the sounds are great fun to explore. I won’t hold you hostage with one star, because that’s kinda messed up, but I do have a true request: Could you implement recording in from the keyboard to the sequencer? This would speed up the process of making sequences tremendously.. and less tedious on smaller screens. Thank you for a great synth..Version: 1.1

Bluetooth A2DP not working stand alone, only in AUMMy Jlab Bluetooth earbuds don’t work with this synth. Sound only comes out right earbud and of poor audio quality. Sounds great with wired earbuds into 3.5mm port. Sounds great both ears for Jlab Bluetooth earbuds if run through AUM. Reviews suggest you fixed this for Trooper, how about a fix for Magellan 2? All my stand alone synths from other vendors work great with my Jlab Bluetooth earbuds. Can you please fix this? Then you will be my favorite analog synth app. But for now, kind of frustrated with the app. I really want to run it stand alone. Thank you!.Version: 1.2

Not as good as the originalI had both Magellan 1 and 2. Magellan 1 was by far better. But it stopped working and crashed. So I deleted it hoping to reinstall, too late. They took it off the market. So now I’m stuck waiting to see if it will be opened to me here in America. If not where’s my refund with all the add on’s And as an add on review I was told Yonac will not refund my money and that it’s Apple’s responsibility. But any first year Law Student will tell you Yonac is wrong it is indeed their responsibility and their’s alone..Version: 1.2

Broken when I bought it, its fixed now thanks. Some of the features of this app barely work since it crashes every time you use them. This app is very buggy, if you mess with the FX it immediately does this weird cracking noise and mutes your sound. You also hear a crackle sometimes while playing any of the existing presets. ^ All of that has been fixed and works as normal now..Version: 1.2

NOICE!!! Love all Yonac Apps and this one is immediately a favorite... only thing is...It’s not showing up as AU v3 or inter-app or anything... also bluetooth headphones are disconnected as soon as I switch to Aum, Garage Band, or Cubasis... not sure if it’s a bug for everyone or a setting on my iPad glitching out... either way figured I’d share... Also, both preset packs available as in-app purchases are great. Really loving the sequencer-arp feature as well.... plan on exploring mpe preset pack as well. Thanks for all the great releases. Any chance we can get a throwback of Thereminator??? Loved that app.... not sure why you discontinued it but would love to see it again if possible. Thanks!!!.Version: 1.0

Great MPE Synth for iPad!I have quite a few Yonac synths. Started with Kauldron and most recently discovered the original Magellan. Such beautiful sound came from that old synth, but I wished it was auv3. And ever since getting a Linnstrument, I’ve been wishing for more great MPE-compatible synths. Well, this synth does not disappoint. Lush sounds. Excellent and diverse patches. This one is fun to play!.Version: 1.0

Sounds great, but I think there’s a bugI was really excited to try these Yonac apps, but was left really underwhelmed by how they actually sound. At first. This synth didn’t have a very rich, warm tone, but instead sounded very flat and lo-fi. I tried different effects and even different devices, and the result was the same. I actually thought this app and all the other Yonac synths sounded terrible. Then I tried opening it inside AUM, and it sounded brilliant. For some reason this app only lives up to its potential when it’s paired with either AUM or if I open Korea Gadget first. Otherwise it sounds really flat. Using it with another app is a workaround I can live with, but it’s still a fairly annoying bug..Version: 1.1

I adore Yonac apps- Game changersI will say sometimes I get bummed that Yonac releases sequels instead upgrading current apps (but the apps are never over priced and they NEVER pull the subscription model). They are smart and have been in the iOS game since early days. Their apps have always been easy enough for beginners, deep enough for power users, and truly make use of iOS real estate. Bluetooth audio works intermittent for me but not a deal breaker because most of the time I am hard wired but it works sometimes and sometimes it doesn’t. Still a killer app. 🤯😀🤯👍🏽.Version: 1.0

Yonac makes great appsHonestly, for the .99 deal buy all of their products. I owned this one, Mag.2 and ToneStack for full price, and I would suggest them for that price completely. A great company and great products..Version: 1.1

I stopped writing reviews but this is amazingI’ve had the first version since day one, I can’t believe so much time has passed, that said, the MPE implementation is better than Roli! Thank you for continued development of a great offering!.Version: 1.0

ValueAmazing features. Really great synth. Tones, adjustments, and intuitive controls. One of my favorite synths to open up an idea. Worth every penny!.Version: 1.2

DecentThe app is decent. It has some great sounds, but most presets are not doing the synth justice. Hope the developer offers some more in future updates - would love to see sounds that can be used straight away in music production. An interesting sound does not always sound interesting in a song..Version: 1.0

Just WOW!I would have never believed you could do better than the original Magellan. I was wrong. This, is, awesome!.Version: 1.0

Soundcuts outsSo far i have run into sound cutouts mutltiple times. Once it happens you have to restart the app to get any sound back. I am sure this will get fixed but right now its frustrating..Version: 1.0

Solid sounds, tape machineYou'll like it. Things sound sophisticated, not what you expect from an app..Version: 1.0

Great SynthThere really is so much here for the price: lots of sounds, effects, a powerful ARP generator, a sequencer, and more. Recommended..Version: 1.2

Love itAll around great monster of a synth..Version: 1.0

TAKE MY MONEYDon’t even hesitate on this app.Version: 1.0

FinalllllySuch a flexible useable tweak able synth yeeeahhhh now Auv3 woooo.Version: 1.0

FANTASTIC!!!Enough said..Version: 1.0

Even BETTER than I anticipated!!I would give Magellan 2 five stars even if it were identical AUv3-supported version of original Magellan synth. I was sure it’s coming because, well how could it not have been, it’s Yonac’s best synth! So I was 100% sure they were working on converting it to AU but I must admit I did not anticipate *this*... I wrote a 5-star review for the original version too for it’s great sound quality and beautifully designed UI. What they’ve done here was, they went back to the drawing board and redesigned it to look great as an AU instance. Most synth look much better in standalone than AU version (inside AUM or Cubasis etc) so I usually design sounds in standalone and only do minor adjustments in AU mode. This one looks awesome. Large enough controls, smooth scrolling, just really pleasant to use in AU as well as standalone mode! The scrollable top navigation bar with ability to jump to specific sections is brilliant. (I actually suggested this in my review for TeraSynth some time ago, but I don’t want to brag ;) also a must-have synth btw. There’s really no adequate review on YouTube at the moment illustrating it’s true capabilities, it keeps surprising me!) The range of sound Magellan 2 covers is broad enough + amazing UI - so I would highly recommend this synth to anyone because really, who could ask for anything more? ;) Oh, and it’s pretty efficient as AU, which is a big thing on iPad, because the more things you can run simultaneously the more fun you’re going to have! Another great app from Yonac is Kauldron. Also pretty efficient, got good sound range, and excellent UI. I used it in several of my tracks. Now that Magellan got AUv3, I’m gonna use it a lot more often too!.Version: 1.0

Is a complete analog synth for me tanksIs very good tanks.Version: 1.2

100% worth itThe test of a soft-synth, for me, is whether or not I can make it sound like my analog synths. I’m blessed to have some actual hardware synths, and soft-synths usually show their limitations pretty quickly in an A/B test. This app replicates my best go-to hardware synths so convincingly that I couldn’t consistently tell the difference between the two - and I pride myself on my discerning ear. I recreated all my default patches for every piece of hardware in my studio, and use them for songwriting on the iPad itself. That’s pretty amazing stuff. Now that Logic Pro is coming to iPad, I’m seriously rethinking having a hardware setup at all. Hats off!.Version: 1.2

WhoaThis app is amazing. Great sounds and UI. Feels like i am using actual hardware..Version: 1.2

Needs to be updatedIt worked great in iOS 13 and a few versions of iOS 14 but in iOS 15 it not longer works fully as an AUv3. It crashes in Audiobus 3, BeatMaker 3, Keystage and Camelot Pro in iOS 15. I reported this to the developer through the support page on its website and on Facebook but have received no response. Some communication on this issue would be helpful. Edit: Yes, thanks so much for fixing the issue. It’s working great now!.Version: 1.2

My favorite since first versionI love this synth. It rarely has issues. The thing to do if you find any problem is to contact the developer by email. NOT HERE..Version: 1.2
