GOHUNT: Research & Maps Customer Service

The function of the app is great just a couple things that could be addressed is when using the distance measuring tool to see how long a hike you’ll have there is no undo button especially when using a touch screen it’s very easy to accidentally make a mark way off and then have to restart at the beginning to fix the mistake also I purchased an iPad mostly for escouting and it won’t let me use the whole screen just a strip down the middle which is about a third of the available screen it’s not a big issue still bigger view then my iPhone but was hoping to be able to utilize the whole screen over all it’s really good and I still really enjoy it especially the the three D is really awesome and being able filter the different elevations is great

GoHunt has been very easy to learn to use. It has some amazing features and I will continue to use this platform. If the GoHunt team were ever to ask me, I would suggest adding a couple features. 1. I used another platform before (IHunter) and loved it because I could click on any location and it would give me information on the unit. The information I have found that GoHunt does not include is the season and season dates. This was always such a nice feature to just be able to click on and double check. Hunting for elk and you see a grouse, oh yep it is in season. Great! 2. I would adjust the offline mapping feature. I prefer the cache feature on other platforms for off line maps. Instead of having to previously download sections of the map to take into the back country, you are able to cache what you have looked at when online (need to make sure the picture you want to see offline is what you have looked at online). I have found more Beni fit in the cache option, as you may want a large area cached to make sure your roads to access is available to you and then zoom in to get closer details on areas you are interested in hunting. A lot of download space is wasted when you have to download a whole section and it may not be everything needed. I had a great example happen to me recently; our access road was one way in/ out and a fire was nearing the entrance/ exit. We were forced out of the areas our plan A-E were in. Now we didn’t have mapping downloaded to go to the next location we went to.

There’s a lot to like about GoHunt. To be honest, I’d give the app less stars but I’m a big fan of the company. I love the podcast, films and articles. And because of all the things they’re doing outside of the app I hate to lower their overall score. But, It’s not the most intuitive platform for me. as I learn to use it I’m enjoying it more. The research tools are great but I needed someone smarter than me to explain how to use it. Draw odds are not for the upcoming draw, but can definitely be helpful in deciding how to apply. Seems obvious now that it’s been explained to me. I dont like that a lot of the layers disappear in the apps 3D mode. I utilize the land owner info quite a bit and it’s very out of date. My biggest issue so far is that as an IPhone and IPad user I am very limited in my full screen e scouting. The app does not go full screen on the IPad and the websites mapping doesn’t really work on the IPad. I’m going to pick up a laptop because I’ve been told that the desktop mapping and e scouting platform is great. But, I’m bummed I need a new device to get more out of my membership. I hope the folks at GoHunt take all this feedback back and make an undeniably great product for everyone.

I like the platform, the desktop is clearly the better performer and I love how all the filters are available. On the mobile app it was expected to be less efficient but when I’m in the field I have to be very wary not to go into a full research binge. I have a new phone so I wouldn’t think the app would be so demanding on processing power but I’m limited by overheating, battery drain, and the odd crash or 2 within minutes of e-scouting. I’ll reduce the noise with disabling some filters but I’m on a time limit as soon as I start really digging in mostly from phone temperatures, especially in 3D mode. As I said, it’s a fantastic platform tool and I should be more diligent doing the bulk of my E-scouting on a computer and using the mobile app to verify my funny theories in the field. I still don’t use GoHunt Maps for tracking for the sole reason that it is prone to crashes and killing my battery even when using offline mode, if there was an option for a ‘low demand’ mode I would absolutely utilize the app more

I love the tools on this app, they are extremely useful and very good ideas. However, I would love it if there were updated maps to use on the app. The satellite imagery is extremely blurry, at least in the areas I look at. I would love clearer imagery if possible. I don’t know the legality behind what you’re able to use, but in my opinion it would increase the usefulness of the app. I use this app for a lot, except digitally scouting. I still use Google Earth for that, but would love to just use one app! Really a great idea and a great product. A little glitchy sometimes, especially on Androids, but overall a really great app!

If you don’t have this app as a outdoorsman or hunter then you are seriously screwing up! Their topo, and REAL 3d service truly sets itself apart from all competitors. The layout, design and friendly interface for all devices is easy to use, and extremely reliable. Dependability in the backcountry is something I don’t take for granted and gohunt gives me just that. Their range finder feature, layers and offline maps has been some of my favorite features for this app. Take my word for it - become a gohunt member and download this app. You won’t be disappointed.

I’ve used all the hunt apps and GoHunt is simply superior to all others. While it is better then the competitors for all states they really shine and crush the other apps in the west. Not to say having another mapping app isn’t a good idea for comparison but GoHunt is the source of truth for my eScouting and offline maps. Add in all the other features like hunt plans, historical imagery, the insane 3D, reliability of offline maps and the speed stuff loads (which is lightyears faster than basemaps and OnX at this time (2023) it’s just a no brainer and I didn’t even get to insider/filtering 2.0. Just do it

This is a great tool for the desktop and e-scouting, however I have had multiple problems with my “downloaded” maps not showing satellite image or topography lines. Everything the map is just a blur of colors. I will set a track and it won’t record my distance it shows the miles traveled as ‘nan’. Some great features and potentially a really cool tool but not a reliable in field tool when you go offline with a downloaded map. Maybe I’ve been using the tool wrong but I thought it would be easier to use.

Really love this app, I’ve used on many hunts and its always been top notch! Really glad the released the new gh topo layer, I think that really makes it better then onx as far as maps go. One thing I would like to see, would be an iPad version of this app. I do most of my e-scouting on my iPad, so it would be nice to be able to use the app that’s designed for iPad, and not just the website. Overall you can’t beat GOHUNT, the whole package with the insider membership is amazing. Totally worth it to anyone who does any kind of hunting out west.

The maps are on point with the information they provided. All features have worked flawlessly for me both with cell service and offline. Color options help as well to distinguish different types of data and their insider membership is hands down the best. Only thing I would wish for is to add the names to campgrounds available but that is just me. Lol. Love goHunt and will continue to spread the word about their products and tools.

My fourth season Colorado hunt pushed me To my very limit with no elk seen on public ground after five days. I glassed up four bulls leaving private to bed on public the last day of my hunt. . Walking with my phone in hand to fallow the boundary, i reached the far west end. Glassing across the canyon i just seen a bull bed. Using my gohunt we studied the terrain and determined he was just inside public. Using the rangefinder features and my rangefinder binos confirmed it was a green light. My biggest bull lay dead 35 yards from the boundary. I would if never taken the shot if not for my saved maps.

I use this app for both escouting and when I’m out hunting and it has features that I haven’t found in any other app. It’s got the basics like public and private land but the other features are what get me. The 3D is especially cool - I can zoom around and see exactly how things will look without having to actually travel to the unit. It’s really helped me get more prepared for my hunts. Totally recommend.

GOHUNT has helped me in so many ways. Growing up I always wanted to go hunting and my dad and I would put in but rarely got the opportunity here in AZ, now with GOHUNT we have now been applying in multiple other states and I harvested my first deer last year thanks to them. The amount of knowledge they have available for the insiders is unmatched, I have grown as a hunter significantly faster than I would have on my own. I will always use GOHUNT and be an insider.

Just started using GOHUNT a few weeks ago, been a OnX guy for years. Thought OnX was the best out there, and don’t get wrong “it’s GREAT” but GOHUNT seems to me at least may just edge it out. So far the desk top version out sines OnX, better features and usability and I feel it has better readability of the maps. I will always use OnX Off-road for my road navigation but I think GOHUNT will be my hunting app. Heading out scouting tomorrow for the weekend and this be will be the Test.

Maps are awesome detail and 3D are amazing. Downloading maps is terrible though. Maybe I’m doing it wrong but I have to keep the window active (not let the screen go black/keep the app open) to even download. Most apps allow downloads in the background. To download the are I needed took like 15 mins of just keeping the phone awake.

I love the features. the large download areas, the 3D, tracking, measuiring. All of it is awesome, except the apps ability to track where I am. It’s a 50/50 tossup that I open it and it actually shows me my location, half the time it’s off by sometimes a 1/4 mile and sometimes has been off by over a mile. App wasn’t closed, screen was just off. So that’s frusturating to need to find something and not have it show where you really are

This app is phenomenal as far as land graphics and such. It covers a ton of information required to literally go hunt. That being said it needs improvements. Such as state land updates that are turned into county lands. The hunt areas need to be CLEARLY MARKED. Here in North Eastern Wyoming for example. Many state land areas are not allowing hunters due to coal mining. Some state lands are cut in half. You can hunt half, some or none of that section. This app is very good but state lands open/closed is a huge miss by this app.

I used Gohunts app last year in 2022 and had a bunch of issues, I thought about canceling but glad that I didn’t. I’ve been using it for scouting this year in 2023 and WOW have they improved it drastically. The features are incredible and the app is always on point in the field. I’m at the point where I’m getting ready to cancel my OnX now - nice work Gohunt team!

I’ve been using GoHunts app for a few years now and love how easy it is to use. Easy to filter through the information you want, put more of an emphasis on particular features you are looking for, and is very intuitive. Looking forward to seeing what they are able to improve upon next!

I see some of the land owners needs to be updated. Out side of that. This is a good hunting app. And in my state the layers are available for the seasons for the whole state and not just half the state like other apps. And I don’t have to buy extra levels to get access to the compass. Comes down to brand x was a bust for me. I’m enjoying this app. Thanks

This app has everything you could thinking or want. As I say that they still seem to come out with improvements every few weeks. The team at Gohunt isn’t satisfied with perfection. Oh and there videos have such a wealth of knowledge they should be charging for them.

I like the app and the features but when I turn off the screen and move significantly from my last recorded gps location , I usually have to close the app and re-open it to get it to recognize my new location

Track does not work. Tracks for roughly 2 hours then screen freezes. Have to close app and reopen to get it to unfreeze, but track has been lost. I like the desktop maps, but mobile app maps are unreliable.

GoHunt is the best app and hunting company to research and buy all things hunting. Their customer service is top notch and always have the best products to choose from at the best prices. Do yourself and all of us hunters a favorite and support a hunting company for all your hunting and research needs, buy from gohunt!

Everything GOHUNT does is top notch. The app has worked well for me for my hunts online and offline. Definitely looking forward to more updates to have some of the features of competitors, but the elevation filter on desktop alone is gold.

GoHunt is the best hunting tool out there in my opinion. Unbeatable access to unit information with their filtering option. Maps are great and easy to use, and the app has research tools all in one place. Also the best customer support and service that I’ve experienced. Excellent company.

I I use the app for all my outdoor needs. Hunting, fishing, hiking. It’s a great way to keep track of where you are and where you’ve been. Waypoints are great for keeping track of animals and points of interest. I use it to e scout during the offseason to plan my next hunt. Love the app.

The mapping software worked well to plan an elk hunt to a new area for our party in 2022. We were able to identify target areas, that when we got in the field held elk. The offline features worked well in the field as a backup GPS.

This is a must have tool as well as the ability to pick units and see data and info that would take hours to pull apart. Highly recommend if you want to increase the odds in your favor!

Being a new hunter everything can feel a bit overwhelming. GOHUNT makes it easier to get going. From the app, planning hunts, to the customer support team answering my questions on gear. Not only is it worth the $ but most importantly it’s worth your time.

I have had all of the the mapping services and GOHUNT is the best do it all and do it best mapping I have even seen. And not to mention all the kickbacks you get in the gear shop, and wide gear selection to pick from. Solid believe that this app makes me successful!

I use onx primarily because I hunt the Midwest and go hunt doesn’t have the best land coverage out here. But I always use go hunt for their topo maps if I think I found a nice spot. The detail and shading is awesome and makes understanding the land layout way easier!

First I would like to say that I love GoHunt a a company. I love the insider, articles, store and podcast. It truly has made me a more effective hunter. That is why I am disappointed in the mapping software. It is great until the time I have to take it offline. I download my maps and head to the field, once out of cell service is when the trouble starts. Either my app won’t open, takes a long time to load, does not load maps at all and can’t keep track of where I am if I lock my phone. Yes, I have tried uninstalling, reinstalling and worked on location settings. I work in the tech field and am pretty savvy with these things. Unfortunately, I just cannot get offline maps to function as they should. I use another navigation app that has never let me down and must stick with it until these problems are solved. Note, I will continue to buy the full bundle because I like gohunt so much and hope in the future the mapping software is better.

I was very excited about GOHUNT as an alternative to ON X. My gripes with the app include, waypoints not being saved in the location they were originally made, waypoints not being transferred accurately between online and the app (might save a waypoint on the website as a glassing point, but it shows up on the app as just a waypoint). The app does not continue to track location after your screen has slept if you do not have an active track going. This is really annoying, especially if you’re trying to find a turn off while driving. You literally have to close the app completely and then reopen it. The app has been crashing regularly for me recently. Also, now the app also ask’s me if I want to save the track from the previous session, even though I did not have an active track while I was previously on the app. I feel like this could be a very useful app, but it definitely has some growing pains.

Online, this mapping system works great and even offline if you can download your maps. The amount of crashes and download restarts I’ve experienced is insane. It usually takes me 3-4 times before I can actually download maps. Compared to other mapping sources like OnX or BaseMap, this app takes FOREVER to download your maps. I assume this is because they are high resolution, but it still feels like other platforms have a quicker system. Once maps are downloaded, everything works great, just getting there is the challenge. I really like the direction this app is going and knowing GOHUNT, I’m sure it will get better over time but it’s not there yet. I will update this review if my experience reflects but for now, I can’t go above 2 stars since the offline feature is such a huge deal for me. The computer version is great, so I might just stick to that for now and use a different mapping app until this one becomes more stable.

This app covers bases descentky well, but underperforms gaiaGPS and OnX hunt. When opening app it can take in excess of one minute for the app to ping for GPS coordinates leaving me standing off the trail wondering exactly where I am. I would constantly open gaiaGPS to get my location immediately. This is a huge inconvenience in my opinion when you are trying to keep moving. I do like that it downloads the highest resolution satellite imagery. The topo map it gives only sparsely gives you the elevation on the topo lines meaning I’m scrolling around the map just trying to see what elevation I’m at, also annoying. Overall it doesn’t not offer much that gaiaGPS and OnX hunt maps don’t also offer. Everything else that gohunt has done is been great though.

The desktop app is clean and easy to use. Offline maps work great. The price point is better, too, as you get access to all 50 states. As others have said, though, they’ve still got a little ways to go. Here in the East where we don’t have all the Western public land, door knocking is still required. You can’t view landowner data from the app to do so, which I relied on heavily with OnX. I was promised back in August, just days after subscribing, that it would be available “in a few weeks,” but almost 3 months later it still wasn’t functional. I requested a refund and cancellation and only got a pro-rated refund. Would have canceled earlier and got it all back if I’d known I still wouldn’t have it by now.

The mapping works ok but lacks functionality and needs some fine tuning to be useful in the field. - when marking locations or adding photos, make sure to pay attention to the small cross hairs. If you just hit the GPS button to center on where you’re standing the cross hairs don’t automatically default there as well. I’m now having to move lots of saved marked locations around because I assumed it would mark where I was standing. It doesn’t. Need to fix this. - kind of clunky to add photos. Not clear that they all save and there are a few different layers of folders to navigate to save correctly and into the correct “hunt” folder. Details are good but too many steps in the field. I ended up frustrated trying to squint in my screen in the field navigating all of these. - topo with sat photo overlay is set on 200’ topo lines. Personally this is useless because 200’ lines is WAY too broad. No way to adjust these. - buried in their disclosures but 3D maps not available offline handful of other quirks but overall it’s a good concept but needs some honest feedback and fine tuning. Maybe version 2.0 will be better.

I really like the interactive maps that help me know terrain along with the standard layers like public use land. I’m not a fan of the big jump in price to get the insider info so won’t use it because it’s cost prohibitive. Will have to do the research myself. I also don’t like the tone color of the satellite maps. Everything is hued to be too warm. I would like to see a layer that shows established trails that can be zoomed in and see elevation gains like that found with the “all trails” app. I left ONX maps because they try to nickel and dime you with all the ads ons for all the different formats of enjoying the back country. I just want one app that gives me the options and not charge an unreasonable amount.

For the price of insider, the maps and other tools could be better. Theres a lot of copy and paste going on with the filtering 2.0 information. A lot of units in utah say the exact same things worded slightly different. As far as the maps go, the satellite imagery is very grainy and shows no detail when zoomed in, and downloading/using offline maps is pretty buggy. The download will often get stuck halfway through and never complete. Some map features are only available on desktop and not the mobile version which is inconvenient. Overall I think its a really great concept that could be amazing with some more fine tuning

I have had the app for a couple of years now and recently tried to us it on spring bear hunt in Idaho. Layers don’t work well in the offline mode (even though I downloaded them). Roads and trails disappear or don’t show up. The ‘transparency’ setting I set goes back to 100% solid colors on all layers as soon as I open the app. 3D mode doesn’t work and I only get two choices of map types, not 3 as you can have in the online mode. Lastly, it was so grainy when zooming in that was practically useless. I called guhunt trying to see if I was doing something wrong but they never returned my call. Really wish this actually worked.

I have been using onX maps for several years. And have been very satisfied with it. When I saw the advertisement for a free trial for the gohunt maps I thought I would download it and compare it to onX. The only problem is, the free trial does not allow you to access the different layers, which is what I wanted to compare. Very unfortunate. If you’re going to offer a free trial, you should be able to access all the features so you can see if the app is going to work for your needs.

Online, PC based work this tool is fantastic. Mobile, not to much. When you can’t get details of land/GMU/layer details all you are looking at is RATHER frustrating. Ended up back on OnX for some scouting….was going to give this another try after tech support told me map details were coming. So for this past week in MT I tried again and after trying to download maps for multiple days, App restart, ditch/install I gave up. Want to love it guys, maybe next year….it will be OnX with me this Fall.

I’ve been a insider member for years. It’s quite expensive but they do great giveaways every month. I have yet to win anything, which tells me that the odds are pretty low. I always used the website to read the unit profiles for research, but it seems like they stopped doing them with the new updates. I will probably be canceling my subscription. Hunting in the west is becoming a rich man’s hobby anyway and middle class people just can’t compete anymore.

First and primary was that the 7-day free trial was not free. It immediately billed $26 despite the advertised cost was free for 7 days then I’d be billed the annual cost. This app isn’t bad. But onx is cheaper and the user experience feels like a hunter built it. GOHUNT feels … a little clunky. Looked at areas I knew well and accuracy was good there but not better than onx. I came here wanting an alternative to onx but ironically I think this kind of pushed me towards that platform.

I used to have more filters to utilize on this app last year. Plus it was more user friendly. How many points do you have, first or second choice are the big ones. How can you get accurate results without those? Stop trying to get fancy and stick to what worked. Granted this is in the desktop version but I’m definitely not always around it when I have a thought I want to check out right then.

Would give 0 out of 5 if I could. I’m trying to scout in various state. I’m trying to use roads to navigate where places are and no highway or street names show up. No country road names nothing! I’ve redownloaded the states various time reinstall the app multiple time and put every layer on to see if that would help and still nothin! 150 for just research is not worth it. I can’t use the maps if you can’t even see the road names!!! Very frustrating!!

App UI design is good but the app freezes stuck on opening sometimes for minutes at time. It just hangs up on the opening page (with the camo background and company logo in the middle). Not every single time but invariably when you need to navigate or mark a moving animal. Not worth busting an opportunity or burning 5-10 minutes waiting for a stupid to just open. Ive had it on multiple generations of iPhone pro maxes so it’s not a one off issue

Just as the title says, 3 times now where I have gone in and lose service I’ll be using the app. At some point it logs me out and then I don’t have service to log back in. So the app is worthless to me at the worst possible time. I tried to contact customer service about this but never got a response.

GOHUNT has always been much better on the computer, with better filtering option in the hunt planner and searches. The past week, however, the app has not worked at all, with everything loading and not showing up. I can’t select units, states, species, or anything like I once was able to. I like GOHUNT and enjoy using it on the computer but the app has been a frustration since the beginning. It needs to be better.
