Watch to 5K-Couch to 5km coach Positive Reviews

Does exactly what it says it’s going to and worksI generally don’t write reviews but I kinda had to for this app. I’ve run pretty seriously before so I’m familiar with how you can set intervals inside the Apple workout app on your watch. The thing is, everything on this app you can basically do yourself or cobble together from a couple different apps for free. And it’s kinda fiddly and doesn’t always work how you want it to, and for couch 2 5k you would have to make a decent amount of pre-sets. So this app is just nice, pay a reasonable price once, and get a solid native watch project that lets you skip the head ache. I still encourage people to figure out how to set intervals for themselves in the mean time. It’s good not to feel like you Have to pay for stuff like this and to have the freedom to set up custom workouts. But when your picking up running again, it’s really easy for small speed bumps to stall you. And having just like the first month or 2 of training totally preset can smooth the way.Version: 5.0.2

Exactly what I’ve been looking forThis app is everything I’ve been looking for. I’ve completed the program a few times (!) using different apps and none of them come close to this one (including the one from Active). This is a native Watch app, as opposed to an afterthought for a phone app, and it shows. No fluff, everything that you need and nothing that you don’t. I hate running with my phone. With this app, I can just leave it in my car and go. No setup, no fiddling for 5 minutes. No endless confusing settings. It just starts, and it just works. The prompts are clear as day and to the point, the voice is not annoying (I do appreciate the GB accent!). Integration with the Music app and my bluetooth headset is flawless. Lastly, the Watch screens are great. Easy to read, and again, to the point. Integration with the Health app just works. I really like that it logs separate workouts for warmup/run/cooldown. But maybe that should be an option. I’m in week 3 and haven’t found a bug yet. The only improvement I’d ask for would be to be able to see the workout details before doing them. Oh, and a Watch to 10k app :) There’s nothing like putting on your running shoes and just going out with nothing but your car keys in your pocket. Thank you. I would have gladly paid more..Version: 3.0.2

Blown AwayAfter searching through dozens of subscription based apps for this function including the big names who I think just got greedy, this is a refreshing gem. One time payment, flawless simple functionality, clean interface, no ads or up-sells, no subscriptions or ‘pro’ tier. Just a really solid app that gets out of your way and does the job. I understand it is called WATCH to 5K because it can function on just your watch without you having to drag your phone on your workout, slapping your leg and potentially getting caught in the rain, however, it does come with a companion phone app that is equally thoughtfully designed. There are rewards, you can see a map of your runs, option to automatically update to Apple health as a workout. I cannot recommend enough..Version: 6.1.0

Exactly what it needs to beThanks to this app, I ran 5k today! I’ve never been a runner before, and in fact have always hated running. This app literally changed my life. I tried a few other C25K apps, but almost all of them were subscription based and/or had dumb characters and way too much going on. I wanted something simple that could tell me when to start and stop running, and give me some stats for each run. This app does that PERFECTLY. It was so easy to use, and the design is nice and clean. The update that allows you to see miles instead of kilometers made it even better for me, and shows how the developer listens to the users. My one suggestion is that it would be nice to have a step count to see my running cadence, but honestly that isn’t super important..Version: 7.0.1

A really well-designed appSo far I’m not impressed with a lot of apps for the Apple Watch. I bought the Watch with cellular connectivity specifically so I could go exercise without my phone. Other exercise apps seem to really want you to either bring your phone with you when you run, or require all sorts of options and configuration. All I wanted was an app that told me when to run, told me when to walk, integrated with Apple Fitness, and worked reliably. This app is it! It works great! I love that it logs the warmups, cool-downs, and runs as distinct workouts, so Apple Fitness knows to report something as a walk and not a run, etc. The display is intuitive and informative. The interface is dead simple. tl;dr: it just works, and it works well.Version: 3.9.0

Simple and EffectiveThis is a super streamlined application of couch to 5k, perfect for the watch. It's an uncomplicated way to free you of the phone. All the analytics are available in the Apple Fitness app, so it's fine that it doesn't have all the bells and whistles. If I could, I'd give it 4.5 stars because the volume on the voice prompts is too low. It doesn't dip the background music enough and it doesn't seem to match the volume setting. It also logs the warmup, run, and cooldown as separate workouts in the Fitness app. It's annoying not to be able to see the total distance and route in a single workout. And you can't see your route for the warm up and cool down because it logs it as a walk which doesn't record the route..Version: 2.5

Great app for Pro Max users! My phone is an absolute brick and any sling or chest pack I bring on a run adds heat and weight that drives me crazy. I love that I can run with just my watch and listen to music without a phone. The program itself is great. I was training for a 5k before but was basically just throwing myself at it which meant long recovery and it was not very rewarding. I committed to myself that I would do my absolute best to push through each session and so far in week 7 I have. Some are harder than others but some of the milestones are very rewarding and I feel really good about myself afterwards. The data is just enough to help me understand my pace and how hard I exert myself. Some enhancements I’d love to see: 1) AOD support 2) Additional interval callouts (like 15 seconds remaining) 3) Zone training options There is the occasional glitch where my watch vibrates to conclude a run and no audio comes out but they are few and far between. Overall I highly recommend this for anyone struggling to start running. For years I was bored by cardio and now I actually consider myself to be a “runner.”.Version: 5.0.1

Did exactly what it said!I don’t write reviews but I’m super happy with my purchase of this app. It’s very easy to follow, buzzing your watch every time you switch from walk to run or vise versa and when you reach the halfway point and automatically connecting your stats to Apple health. The only suggestion I have is to give the option of seeing your distance/pace in miles per minute instead of only km. Understand that we’re working up to a 5K, but I spent a lot of time at the start memorizing km to mi pace conversions to understand what speed I was running at. Super satisfied with this program and def will be purchasing the 5-10k expansion!.Version: 6.1.0

Great watch based running app, needs workout improvementsAs I go back to running on the treadmill at the gym again, I decided to go back to using this app. Overall I really like it, easy to select the run I want, it makes separate workouts for the warmup and cool down as well. Complaints: I have it setup to do inside runs, but when I review the workout there is always this ridiculous squiggle drawing of me running like a madman in all directions at the gym as if it were an outside run even though it is classified as an indoor run. I hope this can be fixed. Also in the workout data there is no breakdown by heart zone. I hope these are things that Apple gives third party developers access to fix..Version: 3.9.0

Simple and FantasticThis app is delightfully straightforward; it really is as easy as turning it on and clicking the run you need. It has a 5-minute warm-up/cool down you can toggle, you can set the runs for indoor (and it works well!), and you can control currently playing music by swiping to the right during your run. I don’t usually use headphones for indoor runs, and this app allows you to toggle on the ‘coach voice’ to prompt you when to walk or run out the watch speakers. Super handy! You do NOT need your phone at all for using the iwatch app, which is great if you want to pack light, but the iPhone app does provide a clean interface for reviewing your run stats. So far, the only nitpick I have is that you have to manually switch in each screen to toggle from km to miles; it would be great if there were an overall setting to permanently change it to miles, but km makes the distance ran sound more impressive, so I’m not that broken up about it. 😂.Version: 6.1.0

Great App, Missing One FeatureThe app is really well put together. I like that you can re-do runs and it still tracks your progress. It’s also simple on the Watch but you get good stats on the iPhone after. My only criticism is that as most of the weeks are a mix of walks/runs, I can’t check to see what my current pace is during an interval. It only shows the total pace over the entire workout. I’m trying to hit a certain pace and after I hit a walk I no longer know if I’m running fast enough until I check the intervals on the phone afterward. So I can’t adjust to speed up or slow down during the workout. Overall, though, the app is great and I recommend it..Version: 3.1.0

Just What I NeededThis is an excellent watch app that was just what I needed to get back into running. No need to bring your phone along, just my watch and AirPods. I start my music, then start the the app and go! The app will lower the music volume temporarily while it’s giving you instructions on when to run, walk, or if you’ve hit the halfway point. A bit of advice I learned the hard way: when the app tells you to slow down to a walk, be sure to walk fast, it will make the transition into full time running easier..Version: 3.0.2

Overall great watchI love love love that there’s a native Apple Watch C25K app. I’ve used 5k trainer apps on my iPhone for years, but this is by far the best. I can *actually* leave my phone at home. One thing I can’t quite figure out how to make the haptics when switching from running to walking (or vice versa) more prominent. The first workout session there were multiple taps before the timer started for the next interval, but my last two sessions have had just 1.5 taps to cue me to change my pace. Since I don’t use headphones when I run, I rely on the haptics heavily. I hate having to feel like I need to keep an eye on my watch so that I’m not missing an interval..Version: 2.8.0

Low cost for high utilityThis is exactly what I wanted from my exercise and Apple Watch, an app that can take me from couch to 5k with no frills. I love the dialogue when wearing Bluetooth headphones. It would be nice if the app could beep or play a message over the speakers when I don’t have headphones, however. Sometimes I don't feel the prominent vibration while running, but its not a big deal since I think thats a limitation of the watch itself. I highly recommend this app. There are no hidden costs and the features are perfect for my running goals..Version: 2.4

Simply worksI’ve worked through the C25K program a few times over the years and with various apps. Ben’s option here is the beat for runners who want to carry minimal electronics on their runs. I only need my Apple Watch and my AirPods. It is a very well-designed and developed app. It hasn’t crashed a single time or misreported or caused any other problems for me. Other running apps on the store often treat the Apple Watch as an afterthought which lead to frustrating user experiences and issues with recording the runs. Keep up the great work, Ben!.Version: 2.1.2

Great Native Watch Running AppI love quite a few things with this app. And hope for tweaks in just a few areas. The fact it works seamlessly on watch only runs is tremendous. And the cues are great, easy to hear, and with great haptics. It also breaks the walk/runs into separate activities. Which I haven’t seen on other apps. The only tweaks I would have would be to allow for the option to utilize miles over km. I understand the logic. But it just isn't something I am accustomed to seeing after a lifetime of running. And it would be great to see interval runs as well. Great app though. Kudos! 👏.Version: 3.7.0

*updated* figured out the crash issue, now 5 starsFollowing up on my review from earlier this week, I found that when listening to music through the music app, the watch crashes when Watch to 5K enters the first run or exits the final run. This is also when the Watch to 5K music option begins and ends. Solved by listening to music through the Watch to 5K app only. Feature request: I would love to be able to listen to music during the warm-up and warm-down walks too..Version: 2.4

*Updated* Distance not recording**updated**user error on my part- all of the permissions were not turned on, therefore not tracking distance. Turned them all on and app works great :) Thank you!! I just got this app today and did my first run. However, my watch and the fitness app did not show the distance. ‘0’ is shown for distance, active calories, total calories, and average pace in the fitness app. I do however love that I don’t need my phone and it shows a map of the run. Just need to figure out the distance data..Version: 2.2.0

Incredibly easy to use!I have never been a runner and am quite a bit overweight. I started with the 5k plan and then continued with the 10k program. This app makes it so easy to not only learn to run but also to sustain long term running. You don’t have to bring your phone or headphones. Just start the run on your watch and go. It’s so simple. I also love the stats after each run so I can look back and see my improvements. I highly recommend this app!.Version: 6.2.0

No Phone? Yes, Please!Since injuries limited my cardio, I needed something new. At 70 y/young, I’ve never run in my life… until now. I just completed Week 6, Run 3. Watch to 5K is the perfect app for me. I crank up my Praise tunes on my earbuds, start the Watch to 5K app on my Apple Watch, warm up with a 5 minute walk & the app tells me what to do when. “Start Running” Slow Down to a Brisk Walk” “You’re Halfway Done” CONGRATULATIONS, You Did It”. The program starts slow with walking interspersed with short runs (jogs in my case)… and builds 3 days a week. I did have a conflict that turned off the voice the 2nd week - I think it was the Find Me app notifying me my iPhone had been left behind (hurray!). I turned off Find My, deleted and redownloaded the app and it talks to me again! No watching my phone for time! Thanks!.Version: 7.0.2

Great App that really works!I had run for about 35 years, quit for 5 because of injury and needed something to get me back into running. Tried a couple of other apps but this was by far the best for me. I liked the longer walks in between the runs. Used it up to the 7th week and then went on my own. Ran a 5K at the end and felt strong. Minor complaint is that while running, pace is metric and I think miles for pace..Version: 6.1.0

Get an iOS app with watch app insteadIt works and is there on your wrist. It shows you when to run and when to walk. Can’t fault that. Also it gives pulse and distance. It tells you how far you went after the workout. Until you hit done. Then it forgets all record except that you have done it. There’s just no way to find a record for the run in the health app. I have to look in fitbod to see my record of the run. Native watch apps are a cute idea but take a lot of work to be useful. This costs the same as an equivalent phone app that probably includes a watch app gratis. I recommend that..Version: 1.1

Perfect 5k Training Companion 🏃I’ve tried a few different apps and this one is the best! One-time payment and everything just works. The prompts are clear and the tracking is great. I highly recommend this app to anyone looking to start, or re-start running. It’s one of the few apps that don’t try and get a subscription and is truly work the price, without a doubt. Very great app..Version: 3.9.0

Works through watch, is a weekly progression app - RECOMMENDED FOR ALLThis app did everything I needed it to with only a couple things I was left wanting it to do. 1. You don’t need your phone to use this program. 2. It’s a weekly build up program for running. 3. It tracks and syncs to Apple Health. 4. Allows music to be played and coaching queues still work. 5. The phone version is great for a full view of the runs and progress. Wants: 1. Quick pause button - I have to scroll (swipe sideways?) the page to get to pause. 2. Warm up/Cool down and music player - you can’t play omusic while in warm up or end it in cool down because you can’t scroll (swipe sideways) to the music page. You can bypass this by opening the music app on your watch and playing through there. Nice job dev team - it works great..Version: 3.0.2

Only Apple Watch Couch to 5k programSeriously I looked high and low for a couch to 5k app that can be used with only your Apple Watch. Every other couch to 5k program app requires you have your phone with you not ideal as I do now want to hold my phone or have it strapped to my arm. I just need to have minimal electronics on me and this app fit the bill so thank you for making this app!.Version: 6.2.0

Simple. Perfect?I rarely write reviews for anything, but this app deserves it. It does exactly what I needed that no Fitness+ configuration could do for me. Two simple taps on my watch and my workout is going. The little blurbs it shares are not rocket science but all very relevant and motivating. Gives me all the data I actually need at a glance. Makes running easier and takes the guesswork out. Kudos!.Version: 6.1.0

Delightful!I came across this app in a running subreddit and I have been thrilled with the experience so far. It gives me the program pretty seamlessly without extra fluff and I haven’t run into much in the way of bugs. Also, no subscription! Just pay once and you’re done! (Although, I did kick in an extra tip, since I like it so much. 🙂) Great work!.Version: 5.0.2

Great, Simple AppThis is exactly what I was looking for: a couch to 5k program where all I needed was my Apple watch and my AirPods. This is just that. Prompts you via your headphones when it’s time to walk or run and gives you an alert when you are half way through so you can turn back around. Also love that this is a 1x purchase and not an ongoing subscription. Great app!.Version: 2.8.0

This WORKS.Wow. I was a complete runner whos now in week 8 of the 9 week program. I love this program and the way the app guides you without focusing too hard on calories/distance/etc. It's all about making it to X time. I do sometimes have some issues with connecting my AirPods to the watch but it feels like more an Apple issue. Thank you so so so much for this app!!.Version: 6.1.0

Best of its kindThis app is perfectly setup to get you to complete a 5K. Just enough customizing available but perfect out of the box. I’ve had issues sometimes with battery drain/random restarts of app and or watch but that could be because I’m running it on an older watch. Highly recommend it, especially for beginners!.Version: 6.1.0

Very motivating, and well integrated with podcasts appI love how easy it is to hook up my earbuds to both a podcast and the audio prompts simultaneously. The fitness tracking built into the watch & monitored through the Health app has shown me measurable improvements to my cardio health. I’ve never been a runner, but I just finished the last scheduled run with this app! 30m straight, woo!.Version: 5.0.1

Simple, great appIf you want to train for a 5k run only with your Apple watch and leave your phone at home then this is the app for you. It works simply and does what it claims. I had tried a more expensive couch to 5k app previously and their watch app didn’t work right - the voice prompts didn’t work. This one work seamlessly, I highly recommend it..Version: 2.4

Good app could be great with one fix.The design is great. The single purchase is perfect. The big glaring problem with this app is the vibration notifications between run/walk aren’t unique or strong enough to really grab your attention when doing physical activity. It means that I have to keep looking at my watch to not miss the next prompt. I, also, can’t for the life of me to get it to play through the watch speaker or my AirPods when they’re connected..Version: 3.7.0

Excellent - does what matters and does it well.So many apps try to do many unnecessary things, animations , video, etc. also, most apps use the watch as a secondary screen and sensor. This app not only gets the job done in walking you through the program, it uses the watch as the PRIMARY device to complete the program. No distractions. AWESOME APP..Version: 6.0.1

Excellent and simple app. Start today!I literally went from couch to 5k in 8 weeks with this app. I didn’t even know I was capable of this. Thanks to the developers! If I could change one thing it would be to adjust from kilometers to miles during the the runs, not just afterwards. No big deal though..Version: 6.1.0

Quintessential Couch to 5K appThis is basically a perfect app. It allows you to run the couch to 5k program from just your watch (so you don’t need to run with your phone). The user interface is smooth and good looking. It’s not bogged down with too many metrics. It’s a joy to use! I just completed the program and loved having this app..Version: 5.1.0

A life changer.I’m 55, and haven’t run in 20 years. After quitting smoking, I finally had the lung capacity and energy levels to try again. I hated the idea of dragging my phone around on runs, so this app—combined with my iWatch, EarPods, and Spotify—was perfect. It helped me accomplish something I’d wished for for many years, but didn’t think possible. So thankful for it..Version: 3.0.2

Great app!!!!Updated my review after using for two weeks. It’s a fantastic app, and it feels so good to not have to carry a bulky phone. You can easily see your miles logged in the activity on the phone, so the fact that’s it’s in kilometers on the app doesn’t matter. Will you be developing apps for 10k and half marathon training?.Version: 2.7.0

Almost thereExcellent app for the purposes of tracking runs without having to carry the dang phone along! I like it so much in fact that I wish I could use it to the exclusion of native fitness apps. If it had just two more features (the ability to track free runs at the end of the 5K program and the ability to toggle to miles), it would be a dream..Version: 2.4

Great and easy app to useThe only point of frustration was with the initial setup. The instructions on the website say to make sure to setup in the health apps settings. The app won’t show up in there until you hit start on the first training. After that it is simple to setup. This is a great app well worth the $2.99 one time fee..Version: 2.4

PerfectI used this app for my training and really liked it. Simple interface, easy to use. Not really any customizations, but it did the trick and helped me run for the first time in a few years. Now I am running 30 minutes 2 or 3 times a week without any pain. Definitely worth a few bucks!.Version: 2.8.0

Simple, Elegant, and exactly what I wanted! The interface is clean, the voiceover is encouraging, and it lets me leave my phone behind while focusing on my music and my training. This has been a real help in actually starting and committing to a training regimen! Simply put, it does everything I need, and nothing I don’t. If you want to do Couch to 5k with only your Apple Watch, this is the app..Version: 2.1

Excellent app!I love this app! I used the Active couch to 5k app years ago and recently redownloaded it. The UI is so clunky and outdated, and I hate having to take my phone with me when I’m running. The UI of this app is so sleek. It’s amazing having it all on the watch, and I love that it doesn’t have a subscription or a need to create a new account..Version: 5.0.2

Made the impossible possibleI am shocked and insanely grateful for how easy this made running for me - something I didn't think was possible. I started it having actually never ran for more than 3-4 min in my entire life (I'm 30) and then to making it through the program..Version: 3.7.0

Great app!Just started today, so far so good. I love the voice assistance; no need to keep looking at watch. I couldn’t get the music to work though…but I don’t know if that is user error. Seriously, get this app!! I hope the developers continue and make a sequel..not having to carry your phone is amazing!.Version: 3.0.2

Great guide through the programI got this to track my attempt at the couch to 5k program and it has done that as expected. It’s easy to use. I like having the prompts telling me when to run and walk. I feel like this app is making the whole process easier for me..Version: 4.4.0

Great app!I went from barely completing a one minute run without walking to running for 25 minutes straight. If you are contemplating running and don’t know where to start, this app is a great, affordable option to get started with. I can’t recommend it enough!.Version: 6.1.0

Great App but would like more customization optionsI love the app and the fact I don’t need my phone while running. However, I would like the option to increase the time allotted to run a 5K. I can’t complete it in 30 minutes and would like the option to add 5 to 10 extra minutes before the workout ends..Version: 3.5.0

Very Buggy on Series 5 watchGreat concept and app. Unfortunately I keep having bugs and the app will freeze up midway through a workout and if I restart the app it takes me back to beginning. Not optimal when you’re trying to squeeze in a quick run. Makes it almost useless since it doesn’t prop me when to run a walk and half my workouts are recorded due to the restart ..Version: 3.2.0

Perfect 5k app for Apple WatchI love this app, easy to use, provides all the details for each run, and has been great to use with just the Apple Watch. I’m in my last week of the plan and it’s been a great tool to keep me on track. Even works for treadmill or outdoor running..Version: 7.0.2

Recommended!!Writing to say I love the app and have waited for something like this for ages!! 🙏 I’d love to see the ability to freely redo a part of the cycle, the same way you can skip it. Other than that, I totally recommend it. Thanks!!.Version: 5.0.1

Love the app, butEverything is perfect with the app, but there seems to be an error with the running program. Week 5 starts with 5 min runs on day 1. Day 2 jumps to 8 min runs and day 3 has a 20 min run. Week 6 day 1 then drops down to 5 min, 8 min and 5 min runs. That makes no sense. I can’t go from running for 5 min to a 20 min nonstop run and if I can do 20min non stop then I don’t need to go back to the 5 min run. I saw other apps in the AppStore and it seems like this one has the order wrong..Version: 2.5

Almost perfectI love the app, love the fact it’s not a subscription and love the fact it records HR and splits up the runs/walks in the fitness app. However… Adding an option to change Siri’s accent would be nice. It currently sounds a bit too robotic and can be a little hard to understand at times..Version: 3.2.0

Better than other appsThis app is great I like the fact I only pay once and it’s a small fee, but I don’t hear the voice even when my headphones are paired to my watch and my workouts aren’t sent to my Strava account which I dislike. Not sure if this is just me and I’m doing something wrong or what. Thanks I’m advance if there’s a response.Version: 3.9.0

Why isn't the app icon an Apple Watch?Seems like an obvious thing to have done..Version: 3.3.1

All you need to start running!Best investment ever! I paid few bucks for this app and it has all I need with my Apple Watch! Sure, it does not have thousands of (useless) extra features, but it has all the basic ones working perfectly and smoothly. It gives me everything I needed and NO SUBSCRIPTION <3. For me this app is one of the best ever I purchased.Version: 3.0.0

Absolutely the best running companion with a watchCan't praise this app enough, I had been used a phone based one for years and this is exactly the improvement I was looking for to no longer have to carry my phone on runs. Only suggestion would be to hire a voice actor for the coaching sections as the text to speech leaves a bit to be desired, but that's such a minor thing in this otherwise amazing app..Version: 3.0.0

Glad I found this app!“Perfection is Achieved Not When There Is Nothing More to Add, But When There Is Nothing Left to Take Away” - Antoine de Saint-Exupery..Version: 2.4

Great App! Responsive DeveloperThis is a well-executed app, and is exactly what I was looking for. I had a problem with the map route not showing in the Fitness app, but after a discussion wit the developer we got it all sorted out. Happy to support!.Version: 2.3.1

This app needs more loveGetting back into running is the main reason I bought an Apple Watch. The other apps have cumbersome Watch integration that had me frustrated. This developper came to the rescue with a simple and great little app!.Version: 1.1

Convenient and easy to useI like the app in general. It’s very easy to use and set up, tracks all parameters well, good music app integration, and good apple fitness integration. My only dislikes are that it creates a separate “workout” in the apple fitness app for the warmup and cool down, and I wish the prompts to start walking/running were just a touch louder..Version: 2.3.0

Cool app but can not import runs to StravaRecently went for a run with this app. The run shows up as a workout in my fitness app but it will not import to Strava. Pretty disappointing but the app is still good..Version: 2.2.0

Simple and awesomeWas looking for just this. Simple C25K that I could have on my watch. Nothing to carry. Just watch and headphones. Any plans to add GPS tracking for the runs?.Version: 1.0
