CharmingI was skeptical when I first got this game. I thought it would be childish/overly simplistic but wow…was I wrong. The graphics in the game are just breathtaking-you really feel like you are there. It is so cool to be able to explore the island and to save it. There are a couple minor issues with the game: first, a lot of the “tasks” in the game involve tapping the screen once instead of actually manually completing the task. For example: in the part of the game where you fix up the castle, all you have to do to build stairs or bridges is just tap the hammer icon on top of the broken area. Same thing with treating the animals with the first aid kit-all you do is tap the “first aid” icon. I feel that this game could’ve been a lot richer and more challenging if you could actually do the stuff instead of just tapping an icon. The other issue is that there are only 2 speeds at which you can make Alba walk: really slow or sprinting. An adjustable walking speed feature would be much better. These issues wouldn’t cause me to take off a star, they’re just suggestions that would make the game a bit better. Other than that, this is a really awesome and relaxing game with relevant messages about protecting the environment and appreciating nature. :) Edit: WHERE IS THE NEW UPDATE?! CaptivatingThis beautifully captures the joys of managed civic wildlife affinity through a child’s eyes, with well-observed details at virtually every turn. The controls are needlessly gimmicky on default settings and pose a real impediment to the experience, especially lack of landscape on iPad and the choice to make gyroscopic controls ignore the starting orientation of the device. In spite of all that, the beauty of the experience shines through and I found myself getting a little choked-up toward the end. I don’t understand why there’s no photo mode. Hopefully they add that. All there is, is a handful of lookout points where the UI disappears except even then a pesky “X” in the upper-right _always_ stays visible (couldn’t you hide it behind a tap?). This game is the stuff Apple Arcade subscriptions are made of. Please, Apple, don’t change your emphasis away from gems like this in favor of more “monetization” and “engagement”. This game is exactly what someone would pay a premium subscription for to get exclusive content of this caliber, even if replayability may be limited (in fact, it’s such a lovely place to be that simply booting it up and spending time in it could actually be the type of “engagement” that gets players coming back, _without_ distorting the creative of the project!)..PhilodygmnVersion: 1.1.6

AdorableGreat little game. I’ll get the only negative out of the way right off the bat: it’s short, like only a few hours to complete the main quest. Thus I would love to see another island added to explore further. As someone who lives on a lake I’ve seen and heard many of these birds before, even their behaviors in game are accurate to the real world - bravo. Good graphics, fantastic sounds and smooth game play controls. It’s truly a pleasure to play with no stress in a relaxing open world. The game is low key - explore at your own speed, nothing is forced or rushed. It’s really about walking around and experiencing your surroundings. Observing nature and noticing small things (like finding the gecko). It’s a VR version of Seek where you capture photos of various wildlife, mostly birds. Unlike most games in which the difficulty ramps up this game gets easier as you complete tasks restoring the environment by cleaning up trash, saving animals and fixing things in an eco-friendly way. Excellent game to teach kids about the joys of the natural world. Colorful town full of friendly people and simple message bubble exchanges. The use of an in-game smart phone for photo tasks and messages is a clever way of moving the plot forward. Just super cute and very enjoyable. Well done by the developers! Best arcade gameThis is the best Apple Arcade game I have ever played. The graphics are great, and all the animals are beautiful as well. Although I do feel like there are a few bugs maybe. I do not know the last 3 achievements nor do I know if they are out yet. But I feel like 1 of them is identifying all animals. I beat the game and identified all the animals before the game ended and your on the last day, Clara who is supposed to give you that badge thing for your hat ( I beat the game twice because I wanted the achievements) doesn’t talk about you scanning all the animals when you identified them all before the last day. Therefor I can’t get the badge for your hat. Another few badges that I have in mind but I don’t know are repairing everything on the islands and also cleaning up everything on the islands. Again I do not know if these are the last 3 badges I am missing but if they are then you have to complete them after the festival. But I have absolutely no complaints and those are just small bugs for achievements that might not even be achievements. Take As Long As You NeedThe game could be said to be short by those who blast through the story, but I’ve sunk in more than a few hours already and I’m only halfway through the story and still have at least a dozen animals to photograph - as well as lots of litter to pick up and probably more bird houses to fix too. This is a very enjoyable game and I think the entire concept is great. The only suggestions I have would be to add the ability to play in landscape mode: one side walks and the other moves the camera - the portrait mode is nice but can be a bit clunky at times. If landscape mode was integrated, you could have Alba holding the phone for pictures in landscape mode too. I also think it would be neat to have simple areas to quickly see/explore indoors - like the church on the hill, or the flower shop in town - but the game is already pretty detailed and large. I have never had any issues at all, except one time I left the game standing on one of the bridged I fixed by the rice fields and when I booted back up, I was in the small aquaduct/stream - thankfully there was an easy ‘reset character’ button in the settings I had seen earlier..Apple VideologsVersion: 1.1.9

Blown AwayIf you came to Apple Arcade to find a cozy game, look no further. This is the first review that I’ve ever felt compelled to write for any app, if that tells you anything about the impact it had on me. I was searching for a game that could provide a beautiful visual experience with a captivating story line and stress free quests, expecting a downloadable app to only tick off one or two of those desires with maybe an hour of entertainment. I reluctantly started Alba, expecting a game geared toward children. What I found was a heartwarming and beautifully written narrative that caused me to nearly play the game straight through, revisiting it the next morning to reach the end. Saving and documenting animals, finding hidden objects, bonding with other characters, stopping to admire stunning scenery throughout a pretty large island… this game truly had everything I’ve been looking for, and played so easily on my iPad! I even found myself emotional at the end. I hope Apple Arcade continues to offer games of this style and caliber - I would be hooked. Good Game, But Not a Big Fan of the Use of SlangI like this game due to the realism in its environments and the message that wildlife should be protected, but the only thing I don't like about it is the use of modern slang, mainly used by the character Ines. She often exclaims "YAS!", a butchered form of the word "yes", when she's happy or excited about something, which leads me to believe that you made her do it just to show how "hip" and "cool" she can be with the kids. I don't like it when a game or cartoon uses outdated slang like "yas", which for some reason is still being used by some people to this day, to try to remain hip with today's kids. I think you could've done a better job. Maybe have Ines say something else in place of "yas"? Maybe "HEYYYY!" or "YOOOOO!" when she greets Alba in the beginning of the game, "Yay" or "Yeah" when they fix the bridge and get close to receiving all the petition signatures they need, and perhaps a cry of “YESSSS!" (with an E, not an A) when they finally get all the signatures. That might make the game a little better to play and not have Ines be such a cringy character. Other than that, it's a good game. Please please PLEASE ADD MORE!!!I love this game! My 5 year old and I play together and it’s honestly such a great game for all ages. I just wish there was more! We have already done everything in the game, my son still plays and runs around the town or he has even restarted just so he can identify the animals again. I love how relaxing the game is, the music and animals sounds are nice and it’s not overstimulating for kids (or adults). The game has been so much fun that it has actually gotten us into bird watching in real life! But once I got to about Wednesday in the game, it was easier to play. I only have one small problem; when I was about to go back home on the game and I was talking to Ines, she walked home, then I walked home, and that was on Thursday, so on Friday when I whent looking for her I never found her. I looked everywhere, but couldn’t find her. Some Glitches, but It's a Cute and Relaxing GameI'm playing this on an M1 MacBook Air base model. I have to get the glitch out of the way first, but it was driving me nuts. I couldn't exit the game. I'd press all of the button on my gamepad controller and none of them would bring up the main menu which allow you to exit. I had to force close the app. After, I did that and re-started it would work as expected. Also, the an 8-bitdo gamepad that normally works fine with Mac games wouldn't work with this game. With the bad news out of the way, here is the good news. It a cute relaxing game where you wander around taking pictures of wild life and try saving a nature preserve. The game play is simple, but satifying if you are just looking for something very relaxing. The environments are stylistically beautiful, but not very detailed with the except of the wildlife. The artwork of the many different creatures is very nicely done and it was enjoyable to learn a little bit about lots of different animals. The dialogue is simple, but gets the job done. Amazing!!I love this interactive story where you become this girl that likes wildlife and wants to save it! I really love it because in my science class I’ve been learning about the human impact on Earth! This game has amazing graphics, a cute storyline, and REAL bird sounds! This game is great for people learning about the human impact on Earth and people that want to find ways to help the environment such as picking up trash. There is a bug in the game in the area called “building site” where an “Barn Owl” will get stuck in one of the platform thingies. I have a picture of it if you would like to see it. The next thing that I would change is how long the story takes to complete for me it took almost a day to finish it because I like to take my time and enjoy things. An exquisite & heartfelt adventureNear perfect games like “Alba” are the sole reason I maintain my subscription to Apple Arcade. This splendid and honorable little gem of a game had everything one could want or expect: simplicity, adventure, humor, suspense, positive messages - all wrapped up neatly in a game that isn’t too long, isn’t too short but just the perfect amount of time to keep you interested and eager to play. Really cool and addictingSo, I downloaded this game thinking it might be for little kids. I was wrong. This game is really enjoyable and I think it can be fun for all ages. I guess I should’ve been thinking harder because why else would this game be in the Apple Arcade? It’s one of the best! Before I downloaded this game, I read through the reviews and saw that there were literally only 5 star ratings. That’s why I downloaded it. It totally deserves the 5 stars. I also do think it’s a really creative game, not many games are like this. I think the graphics are amazing. All the people are so cute! Good, but needs updates...I think the game has a really great message, it’s very fun, and quite immersive, but unfortunately there are some glitches. One being with the camera controls in game, I can only move the camera at what seems to be a snails pace, so most of the animals I’m trying to identify move before I can get a picture. My next complaint is that I can’t go back into my save, I played the little tutorial part and went through to Tuesday and now when I open the app, it won’t load. I have left the loading screen open for seven minutes before I gave up and have tried over and over again in these past few days. If these things were fixed this game would easily be a four star. I Love This Game!!!I absolutely love this game! It’s one of my favorites! You get to take pictures of beautiful creatures, and have an adventure along the way! Absolutely phenomenal!I found this experience to be amazing in every way. The rhythm and balance of the game is perfection *chef’s kiss. I thoroughly enjoyed each day of the game and found myself immersed in Alba’s charming world. I did find 2 very very slight bugs or hinderances that don’t really have a negative impact on the overall experience but just thought I would mention as a way to support the creators with feedback. 1. Sometimes when walking around the island (especially in the town) the camera view makes it tough to navigate. The camera angle moves up making the majority of the view looking at the ground which makes it tough to see where I’m going. 2. If you’re in a menu and an NPC walks into you, your view of the menu gets bumped a bit offscreen. All you have to do is close the menu and reopen though. FWIW I played alba on a 12.9” iPad Pro. Peaceful and beautifulI’m usually too lazy to leave reviews but I really love this game (and I’m 29). It’s relaxing and cute. Especially great for nature enthusiasts. I love the background music and animal sounds/bird chirping, it’s very casual yet engaging, you discover real species, it’s free roam/open world game play so you can explore at your own pace. What prompted me to leave a review was I encountered a glitch where Alba got stuck under the road and I was really disappointed. Alba loves wildlife, and we love Alba.While Alba features elements of open world design and exploration, it maintains the core of an arcade mobile game. Sessions are small, and gameplay is easy to pick up from where you last left off. The hardest thing with Alba however, is putting the game down. Cute and AestheticThis game was very enjoyable a cute game to kill some time if you’re bored. I would’ve gave this 5 stars because I just loved the aesthetic, graphics and music in this game beautiful scenery...but the controlling could be a better and the map is so confusing maybe put the map onto the screen that way we can see where we’re walking to instead of constantly clicking on the map and getting further and further from the destination. And maybe have her get around faster the running took so long she should have had a bike or something to make her go faster. Also make it easier to find the animals a lot of people are struggling on that part some were easy but the other animals took up way to much time they would run or fly away and would not come back. Highly recommendI think this game is amazing. It has great graphics, A large variety of animals, and a highly detailed map to explore. The story keeps you interested and would be great for anyone that can read well (probably 9+). I love that you can document photos of the animals you find and it is very specific about the variety of animal. For example, it says lesser black-backed Gull ( Larus Fuscus)when it could just say seagull. On a scale of one to ten I would give it a 8 to 9. I don’t have any complaints so far and I have no idea how long the game is. I highly recommend this game to anyone who loves animals or nature in general. My Favorite Apple Arcade GameAfter playing an hour or so, I suggest Apple use Alba in its marketing materials for Apple Arcade. It is the best game I’ve played on the platform and one of the best mobile games I’ve played. Visually, Alba is gorgeous. I love low-poly games and this scratches that itch. The environment encourages exploration and the lighting and effects complement every scene. And while the few songs are great, the sound design is excellent. It really sounds like a natural world as you explore. I can’t wait to keep exploring this little world. The story is objective and tasks keep you playing through. There are some moments even I found humorous and heartwarming. And again, I only played about an hour so far. Gameplay is solid too, with smooth transitions between your in game items and controls. So far the only negative is battery drain. This gorgeous game comes at a price and my iPhone 12 Pro got quite warm and the battery drained significantly during my play through. If you’re planning on playing, make sure you got a charger nearby. Overall, as a PC gamer, I can say this mobile game surprised me. It’s charming, gorgeous, and solid. Amazing!I just downloaded this game yesterday and I finished it today! (Had a lot of time on my hands haha) It was an fun game and I loved the story! I do have two little issues/wishes with the game but those can easily be fixed/done! My first one is the controls. It’s very easy to learn but sometimes turning or moving a weird way it’s harder because of the vertical view. This game might be better played as horizontal view! My second issue is, I wish the game was longer! I hope to see maybe some updates where their is more islands you can go to or something fun like that! Cute little gemI love this game. It’s super relaxing and cozy. It really helps relieve stress and anxiety, and I enjoy learning about the fauna (especially with the sounds of the birds!). Such a beautiful game.... I need more!This game is an unexpectedly profound and beautiful experience, one that left me feeling nostalgic and teary-eyed. It’s message is simple but powerful, yet not too in your face. I loved exploring this island and discovering its natural treasures. We Need More!!!!I’ve never enjoyed playing a phone game for this long in QUITE a while. It was absolutely wholesome and beautiful, as well as the message you were sending across about wildlife. Inspiring for my 4 year oldMy 4 year old daughter played through this game with me over the course of a couple weeks. She was immersed in the story, developed a love for identifying animals (she wants to start her own journal of animals she finds in real life), and learned to navigate the entire island by herself utilizing the map and identifying landmarks. While I enjoyed seeing how much she was learning, she had a blast, enthusiastically asking to play it everyday. After finishing the story she was determined to complete all the remaining tasks. We just found our last animal, the Peregrine Falcon, that had eluded us the whole game. Some of her highlights from the game: - Helping heal the animals with the first aid kit. - Finding the dog and taking it on walks - Finding shortcuts, like the one in the backyard to get to the castle faster. - Seeing the sunset She had the following requests: - “I really want to go into some of the buildings!” - “I want to find more animals, like crabs and flamingos!” - “I wanted to go to a playground” - “I wanted a mountain with snow” (maybe different types of weather).PerpetualanticipationVersion: 1.1.9

AmazingI Love this game. I love the music and the story. I LOVE it. There is just some things about it than are a little weird. some times the animals appear somewhere different than the book. One time l found a barn owl in the farm, but the book said that it would be at the town. I also can’t find the frog in the nature reserve .And one last thing, I have found all the animals and picked up trash and fixed the signs, and it didn’t do anything. Pleasantly SurprisedI thought this game was going to be a bit childish and not have a good storyline. I couldn’t have been more wrong. Graphics are great and this was a wonderful game! It was more of a ‘cozy’ game that you could complete at your own pace, but I really enjoyed having that flexibility. Excellent Game!It’s a very good idea to take initiatives from a child's perspective. Cute but bugsSo the game is cute but I had to disable gyro controls because every time I try to use the phone the camera/scene would literally flip upside down and everything would be inverted even if I try to bring out my animal guide the scene with a flip upside down so that meant that I ended up having to spend a lot of time manually moving the camera around in order to take a picture which really is slow and frustrating. I think I would enjoy the game more if the motion controls worked. Load and Won’t OpenI started playing this game about 3 days ago. I got about halfway through the game, and I was in love. I was even telling all of my friends about the game because I enjoyed the graphics and the adventure, and something about it just made me happy. But then, when I saved my progress and left the game, I was never able to open the app again. I would tap on it, it would load the “Apple Arcade” intro, and then the screen would go black and kick me out. Sometimes it wouldn’t even make it to the Apple Arcade and just kick me out. I tried everything- resetting (regular and hard reset), offloading the app and downloading it, fully deleting the app and re-downloading it, checking my storage to make sure that wasn’t the problem, checking my wifi, everything. And absolutely nothing worked. My subscription is still going strong and I didn’t cancel it, and when I download it on my iPad it lets me play on there. It’s just my phone. I checked to see if it was a compatibility issue, but it wasn’t that either because I have the latest software update and the iPhone 11. I really don’t know what else to do, and I’m really upset because I really was in love with the game and now I have to start all over on my iPad. It’s fineI was super excited about this game when I first started playing it, but the game can be completed in less than 4 hours. With the amount of effort that went into the graphics and sounds, I feel like they forgot to actually put any substance into the gameplay. Once you beat the game, they allow you to have a “sandbox” mode, but it’s relatively pointless because everything there is to do is done during the quests. There is absolutely no replay value, and for a game that only lasts 4 hours, that’s a pretty big necessity. This is a game that is definitely not worth paying extra for arcade for, and really should be free on the App Store.
