Jupyter notebooks are a powerful tool used in education and research. You can write small snippets of Python code and observe the result on screen, combine with paragraphs of text, using Markdown.

Carnets provides a complete, stand-alone, implementation of Jupyter notebooks. Everything runs on your device, using the embedded Python interpreter; you do not need an internet connection. Compared to the standard version (Carnets), this app adds several packages targeted for scientific computation and learning: scipy, sklearn, seaborn and coremltools. You can switch between standard notebooks and the more modern jupyterlab using the Settings app.

Of course, all the packages included with the standard app are present too: numpy, simply, matplotlib... To see the full list of installed packages, type "%pip list" in a code window. You can add more packages using "%pip install packageName", but only if they are pure Python.

You can share your notebooks with other apps and also open notebooks or directories managed by other apps.

Partial list of installed packages: astropy, babel, bokeh, cartopy, cryptography, cvxopt, Fiona, geopandas, geopy, gym, inequality, libpysal, lxml, mapclassify, matplotlib, networkx, nltk, numpy, openCV, pandas, parso, pillow, pyFFTW, pyproj, qutip, rasterio, regex, Rtree, scikit-learn, scipy, seaborn, segregation, shapely, soupsieve, spopt, statsmodels, sympy, wordcloud.

Carnets - Jupyter (with scipy) Positive Reviews

Super UsefulThis is a powerful tool with awesome quality, especially for a completely free jupyter notebook app for iPads, really it’s super awesome. I do have to close and open the app somewhat often if I sit down to develop for more than an hour or two as cells will stop running, but the easy file management of this app makes this well worth the download!.Version: 1.8.0

UGH I want to give you 5 stars...This is a truly amazing project...but I just lost over 2 hours of work after trying desperately *not* to lose it. I worked on a notebook file from OneDrive, and completed the work. I tried to download the .ipynb file, but nothing happened. I tried to download it as a PDF, and it save the file couldn't be saved. I, hesitatingly, left that document, opened another one, and came back, and fortunately all my changes were there. So I worked on the second document, went back to the first one, and Carnets refreshed it from OneDrive, wiping out my entire two hours of work. There is no checkpoint to revert to, and opening 'recent notebooks' opens the refreshed one from OneDrive. Carnets never pushed the change to OneDrive, so it's just... gone forever. The worst thing, I think, is that when I went to post this as a bug, a comment on GitHub says ALL of DropBox, OneDrive, and Google Drive are "known to not work." But like... WHY do you have them enabled there if they don't work?!? You couldn't warn people or something??.Version: 1.5.8

Excellent Tool: Help with IOS would be terrific.I began using this tool recently, as I am taking an online data science course, and I have an iPad as my computer. So far the libraries I need are all present, and additional ones can be installed using the !pip install command. A challenge for me has been how to specific a path to find Excel data I need to access on iOS. I need to use the path command to specify the directory holding the Excel file. It would be helpful if the author produced a short paper showing how to specify the path for OneDrive (I have multiple accounts for OneDrive.), Dropbox, the On My , iPad Files App, Google Drive..Version: 1.8.0

Hope For More Machine Learning SupportIt’s really fantastic, excellent Python coding environment for machine learning on iPad. And I do believe it could be better if there were Tensorflow-macos/Tensorflow-metal and torch support inside. By the way, a miniforge conda environment support will be really more fantastic. The Apple Silicon support from conda is much better than that from the others. Best Wishes, and hope for better improvement..Version: 1.5.8

Fantastic, and something of a miraclePacking a build of python, Jupyter and all of the libraries to distribute this is something of a miracle. When people gripe about missing libraries they are unaware of the restrictions put on developers by Apple. This is an incredible thing for someone to put together and offering it for free is a great public service..Version: 1.8.4

Exactly as described - incredibly useful!I would like to thank the developer for creating this, and moreover making it free. This is something I would buy once without hesitation..Version: 1.8.3

Unable to install paramikoWould be 5 stars otherwise but I see a constant error while trying to “ !pip install paramiko”. But I am able to install other pip packages just fine. The error is “Too many Python scripts”. Could this be fixed or at least show some meaningful messages?.Version: 1.6.2

WonderfulThank you for the update, very much appreciated. Use it most days on my iPad Pro/Magic Keyboard, works like a charm. Hope it keeps getting updated, when needed..Version: 1.8.0

Excellent implementation of JupyterIf you want something to take your Jupyter Notebooks on the go, this is it. I use Anaconda and have found nothing that I couldn’t do in Carnets. Well worth it..Version: 1.7.9

Heeey, monsterswithi…It’s ok to be (even so completely) wrong about what you (obviously) do not understand, buUut: to not find the character to correct your own mistakes, or the courage to make things right? That’s not ok, at all. This is the second cleanly and crisply free app I’ve found from this developer of elegantly simple to use solutions to what are typically complex problems. Much appreciated ~;-).Version: 1.8.4

Great appBeen using. Works very well. Is there a way to include CoolProp? Unable to install here through pip..Version: 1.8.4

Can’t installI’ve tried several times to install on iPhone XS on iOS 14.4 but it gets stuck about 80% then goes grey and won’t install. I have plenty of storage available (50+ GB) so not sure what the problem is..Version: 1.5.7

Cannot install REBOUNDMy recent work focuses on solar system integration so this is quite a con. Hope to see updates. Otherwise it’s very solid..Version: 1.7.2

Just Started Using but Amazing!Works for everything I need..Version: 1.8.4

Thank youThis is a incredible app.Version: 1.8.0

Tensorflow support is neededApp is overvall 5 stars but Will tensorflow support be added?.Version: 1.8.4

Great AppDidn’t know how to use it at first, but now that i understand. It’s great..Version: 1.7.9

A dream come trueA perfect Jupyter notebook for iPad! With scipy and seaborn! For FREE! I would happily pay 20 dollars for this! I’m living in my dream! Thank you Nicolas!.Version: 1.5.7

UPDATEThere is no torch , can’t use pip install torch hope update!.Version: 1.5.8

Can’t believe this existsWorks like a charm on my iPad Pro + magic keyboard. Super handy as I’m going through some online courses about data science and I can just tab over to Carnets and try out the code in a Jupyter notebook. Thanks for creating this app!.Version: 1.7.1

Same here -Will not download😥..Version: 1.5.8

Matplotlib导入失败更新以后,就连导入matplotlib都失败了.Version: 1.7.2

A surprise for how much I have enjoyed thisAs a CS student who wants to focus in machine learning and does part-time research in the field. I have absolutely loved using this for on-the-go coding on my ipad. What has surprised me the most is the support for so many packages that I use on a daily basis. My only wish for the app that keeps it from being perfect is not being able to ssh into other machines to run my jupyter code. While I can run most basic ML projects on my iPad, there is some research code that would make it massively easier to run through a remote machine. Hopefully this could be a feature added in the feature or even a different app if that is easier for the developer..Version: 1.8.4

Hello holzschuI really don’t think you should hard code your username into the app. It is not very professional, and might include some information you wouldn’t like to share..Version: 1.7.5

Very useful and convenientIm a CS student. This app is awesome! I dont have to bring my laptop to my part-time job anymore. Just put my little iPad to work and have a quick review code anytime without any issue..Version: 1.6.1

Outstanding!Given the App Store’s constraints, able to run all these on device is simply an amazing achievement. Though, I don’t get why developer would pop up the scary “Could not access iCloud folder” error message when it could have use a local Untitled.ipynb as substitute. The latter has better user experience for those who chose not to enable iCloud Drive..Version: 1.8.4

Critical issue fixed in 1 dayFirst time the developers fixed a critical issue within 1 day of me reporting using reviews. I am amazed that the developer actually cares so much about their application. Great Job! Highly unusual but this is how it should be done!.Version: 1.8.3

Convenient toolIt is a really convenient Jupyter notebook. Make iPad Pro more useful. Only drawback is it drains battery pretty fast. Like 10% per 30 mins.Version: 1.7.6
