Universalis App Comments & Reviews
Universalis Positive Reviews
Including the option to use the New American Bible for the Liturgy Of The Hours is mandatoryThe app has been awesomely created and in presentation it looks qualitatlively superior to all the other free apps I‘ve run into so far for the Liturgy Of The Hours. I live in the US and have recently started to lead a prayer group in my workplace, and here comes the big problem: fellows familiar with the Office and owners of physical breviaries or users of free apps follow the New American Bible translation. And of course I cannot force people to spend money in an app just because I as the leader just feel comfortable using the Universalis app and hence following a Bible translation that nobody else follows in my group... So I guess in the meantime I‘m gonna start using another app like iBreviary, which is great and uses the NAB translation but is not that flexible and rich as Universalis. That until hopefully the Universdalis developers incorporate the NAB option as it‘s the case for the Readings at Mass. I don‘t regret having spent 11 bucks for the app though; like I said, it‘s been a great tool but for the moment just for personal prayer here in the US, maybe not for group prayers with American fellows..Version: 2.81
Fantastic Resource and Well Designed InterfaceBRAVO. I am a Lector and am very familiar with the official Lectionary of the Catholic Church. Universalis always gets the Calendar, Readings, and Mass prayers correct. I use Universalis “Readings at Mass” and “About Today” every day for my personal study and devotion. In addition, when attending Mass at a church where there are no full Missalettes, I use the “Mass Today” and “Order of the Mass”: it is always right on the mark for the entire readings and prayers for the Mass! I also like the ability to quickly go to any day of the Liturgical year and see the Feast/Memorial of the Saint of that day. Universalis has already added the brand new Feast “Mary the Mother of the Church” for the Monday after Pentecost! Praying the Liturgy of the Hours is somewhat complex for the average lay-person. Universalis makes it simple. The translations are different than some Breviaries, so may not be as useful for group recitation if all do not have the App. But the essence of each prayer is the same. May not be 100 pct perfect, but the ability to pray the LOH anytime, anywhere on your mobile device is literally a God-send. NOTE: to get the correct readings and calendar for your Diocese - it is important to go to the settings and select the local liturgical calendar for your country / region. For instance, in the USA, 6 Diocese celebrate The Ascension on the Thursday; the remainder celebrate on the Sunday. The Universalis settings options get it right..Version: 2.83
EaseBecause my routine changes frequently, I like that there are audio options for most categories. I can maintain devotions no matter where I am which is wonderful not only spiritually but practically as I am often in locations beyond WiFi and cell phone signal. The audio has human readers. Mostly, though, I just read. There are long versions and short options for many categories. It has been simple to adjust the print size so that I can read and pray without my glasses. My young daughter loves singing Salve Regina at the end of playing the rosary. She loves praying the Angelus, too, partly because of this app. I think it’s because she can hear the voices of children praying with the adults in the audio versions. The app updates regularly and I have not experienced glitches within the app..Version: 3.150
Transformed my prayer lifeI always wanted to engage morning and evening prayer using the catholic liturgical calendar and liturgy of the hours. I had some success, but felt there should be a better way. The Universalis app is almost too good to be true. First of all, the app is world-class and offers a beautiful, super intuitive user interface. Furthermore, it meets the challenge to create a Breviary that is accurate, comprehensive and provides customization for each person or group to make their own decisions within the structure of the Liturgy of the Hours. My time in prayer has exploded from perhaps 15 minutes per day (on most days) to about an hour a day because of this app…and I never miss a day. It has inspired me so much that I have goals for growing my time in prayer each day further. Thank you for this life-giving app!.Version: 3.94
The Best App for the Liturgy of the HoursAs someone who prays the Liturgy of the Hours daily, I can honestly say that Universalis is one of the most spiritually enriching and reliable apps I’ve ever used. It’s become a central part of my daily prayer life and I highly recommend it to anyone looking to deepen their relationship with God through the rhythm of the Church’s prayer. The “About Today” section is one of my favorite features. Each morning, I start by reading about the saint of the day or the feast being celebrated. These reflections immediately draw my mind toward God and set a reverent tone for the day. The app includes all the canonical hours—Office of Readings, Morning Prayer, Mid-Morning, Midday, Afternoon, Evening Prayer, and Night Prayer—and they are all expertly compiled. The layout is clear, the translations are faithful and beautiful, and everything flows in a way that encourages not just reading, but real prayer. There are also additional features I’ve only begun to explore. The app includes access to spiritual books, broken up into short daily readings, which I’m looking forward to diving into more. Another highlight for me is the Rosary, which I pray daily using Universalis. I love how the app incorporates Scripture between each Hail Mary, bringing the mysteries to life and helping me stay focused and contemplative throughout the decades. Universalis is more than just a liturgical calendar or prayer book—it’s a well-crafted tool for daily devotion that helps bring the liturgy, Scripture, and the saints into every part of your day. Whether you’re praying alone, in a group, or on the go, this app makes it easy to stay connected to the heartbeat of the Church..Version: 3.147
Excellent! No, really! This App is well worth it. A bargain! It’s fair to say that, discovering this app changed my life because it made accessible to me the Prayer of the Church, the Divine Office, the Liturgy of the Hours, Praying the Psalms, these Holy Poems and Canticles. I was never going to get the flipping around in a book, setting ribbons etc. I’m too distracted for that (ADHD!). I choose the dark format and page flipping, but you can have a white background and scrolling. Reciting these Holy Songs out loud makes me aware that all my sentiments, emotions, lamentations, grievances, works, joys and sorrows have a place in the life of prayer, and in the Church, as long as they are given context through the ancients who pleased God. They make accessible to me ALL of God’s emotions too, and help me understand Christ and the history of God’s relationship with man..Version: 3.91
Good value, easy to useI’ve used the Universalis app for about four years. For travel, it’s easier than carrying the breviary, but the best thing is that all the Liturgy of the Hours and readings for Mass are easy to access. I also appreciate “About Today,” with its sketches of the saints of the day. Heavy on British ones, but after all, I believe this app originated in the UK. I can also check the calendar to verify which week of the psalter we’re in when it’s my turn to plan our convent liturgies. Well worth the cost, roughly a dollar US per month. Update, two years later. Still like to his app for all the reasons cited above. Still a good value. Update Advent 2025: cost has increased over the years, but still a good value for all the reasons I’ve already mentioned..Version: 3.159
Great app with the liturgical resources of the Holy Church all collected in one app.Years before Universalis was developed, it was very difficult to find all these resources. They existed, but needed to be searched for on the Internet, bookmarked, and constantly checked to see if they had changed or even had disappeared from the Internet. With the rise of smart phones and other devices like tablets, universal could now put that all together for us and is at this point confident assistant to the liturgical life of the Catholic Church. I would never be without it at this point. It has had its glitches, especially around the iOS 8 update, but that seems to have been solved and we’ve never had that problem since. I highly recommend this app..Version: 3.161
Almost perfectI love this app. It has almost everything I can think of to make it possible to follow Mass, to pray, to read.... The things I would love to have are: access to the continued readings when using the proper readings of the saint of the day or the optional readings for a common Mass (this is what is done where I go to Mass) also to have drop down menus to choose from a selection of proper readings instead of having to scroll through all the options (e.g. all the possible readings for Our Lady on Saturday) to get to the ones chosen by the priest, and to be able to select from votive Masses (e.g. votive of the Eucharist is said a lot on Thursdays where I go to Mass). I love reading about all those venerable English martyrs... great examples for us today. Thanks, Universalis!.Version: 2.92
SIMPLE YET THOROUGH SCRIPTURE THROUGHOUT EACH DAYThe app is beautiful in its simplicity, structure, adherence to the correct literary wordings, and thoroughness of readings and instructional stories. I start each day reading About Today, inspiring stories about the saints. I then read Readings at Mass, that are correct scripture readings for Mass each day of the year. Then I read the Office. In this way I gain knowledge and understanding of God’s desire for us to be obedient to His commandments, how He abhors wickedness and rewards righteousness with kindness and mercy. It helps me to focus each day on doing God’s will. Before falling asleep each day, I try to read the Compline, apologizing to God for any offense I may have committed, thanking Him for all the graces given during the day, and asking Him to keep me safe and near to Him forever..Version: 3.96
Very nearly perfectThe two elements of the Catholic liturgy are the Mass and the Liturgy of the Hours (or Divine Office). This app gives you both in one package, serving as a joint missal and breviary. The order of the Mass and the prayers and readings for each day can be viewed separately, or can be viewed together to provide the whole of each daily Mass. These can be tailored to fit your local calendar. All the hours of the Liturgy of the Hours are provided as well, with all the elements in their proper places—no need to switch volumes and set ribbons! The hymns used in the Hours are drawn from an English repertoire, and personally I find them better than those used in the United States. In addition, there’s information about each day’s saints and the authors in the Office of Readings, resources for spiritual reading, and a guide for lectio divina, as well as the Angelus and Rosary. So why very nearly perfect, and not perfect? The print version of the Liturgy of the Hours is prefaced by a General Introduction, which provides an overview of the liturgy and guidelines for saying the Hours. In particular, there’s a chapter in the Introduction on the rites to be followed when saying the Hours communally. I think it would be an improvement if the General Introduction were included in the app, and if instructions on what to do in a communal setting were provided in the appropriate places, as they are provided in the order of the Mass. This version of the Liturgy of the Hours seems to be intended primarily for private use, but I think it would be useful to provide guidance for communal use as well. One could even take over those communal elements into private practice, were one aware of them. (For example, crossing oneself at the beginning of each hour and at the beginning of the Gospel canticles.) Still, I can’t recommend this app highly enough. It’s easily the best app of its kind..Version: 3.65
Excellent!I use this app everyday to follow along at Holy Mass (Mass of St. Paul VI). The additional features, e.g. saints of the day, spiritual reading, and scriptural commentary, are wonderful to keep me attentive during mental prayer. While I do not regularly pray the Divine Office, it is a blessing to have it available within the same app. The layout of the entire app is beautiful and conducive to prayer. While there is little I can suggest to make this app even more useful, I would say that the widgets could use a facelift, and readings and prayers for the Mass in the Extraordinary Form (Mass of St. John XXIII) would be a much appreciated addition. All in all, I’m grateful I purchased this app over ten years ago!.Version: 3.109
Lectio Divina, Mass Readings, Compline…This has been the best app I’ve ever used for my prayer life. I’ve tried Hallow, but this app is much better to my liking. I also use it for mass readings during the week because misalletes usually don’t contain the full reading during the week day. The only issue I have is that I tried canceling the Mass Readings app that is also distributed by Universalis. Unfortunately they won’t let me cancel the Mass Readings app without also cancelling the Mass Readings function on my Universalis app. Now I’m getting charged for both apps. Hopefully somebody form customer service can contact me to help me get this resolved..Version: 3.96
Glory be to Jesus ChristI recommend Universalis for many reasons, but here are three: #1 is the user interface. This app doesn’t feel like an app, it feels like a Roman Missal/volume of the LOTR that you can customize. It has been beautifully made. #2 The in app reminders are great! You can have reminders set to notify you for daily recitation of the Angelus, Mass Reading, LOTR, and more. One of my favorite features is that every hour on the hour (from 6-6) I get a verse that come up on my phone. It really helps me to pray throughout my day. Also, the reminder tone is a old church bell! Love it! #3 The remembrance cards, and smartphone calendar integration. Remembrance cards allows you to put information in for someone who has died, helping you to remember their life and pray for them annually. Because the app has a liturgical calendar built-in that will sync with the calendar on your phone, you don’t even have to go to the app to see feasts and solemnities, and the remembrance cards will be on your regular schedule..Version: 3.128
I CAN’T BELIEVE ONE WOULD GIVE LESS 5I can’t believe one would give it less that 5 stars. When I give reviews I make sure that I’m being very honest because I do not want to deceive others and prevent them from getting the true benefits of the product. I’ve used this for over 10 years and shared it with priests. We used it in Jerusalem, Corinth, etc where there’s no internet. The freebie version requires internet. This one, you pay once and you can use anytime. And share it with your spouse or family if you have family sharing cell phones. I recommend it to my prayer community. It’s awesome and useful..Version: 3.30
Great addition to prayer life for laypersonsIf you already have a prayer schedule and realized you can pray a bit more every day, this is a great addition. I set my alarm for 9 am, 12, 3, and 6 pm (the first and last prayer is upon waking and before bed) as a reminder and if I’m not busy, which is most of the time, I breeze through that hours prayer. I always wanted to memorize the Magnificat and after a few months, I did. The book form looks daunting compared to this medium but I’m getting one anyway as a backup now that I know the order of prayers. The audio portion each week is probably the best part of this app..Version: 3.129
I love the “comprehensiveness” of UniversalisThis is, hands down, my favorite app - all the way to the monthly e-mails I get letting me know of any updates and changes. Thank you to all who obviously work so hard to make this happen and that you make the readings so pleasant to listen to. Lately I’ve been praying the Liturgy of the Hours with Universalis rather than with the “American” version I’ve used for years and it’s SO beautiful! Thank you all again! (P.S. This is probably one of maybe three times I’ve ever given a five-star rating for any app ever!) May God bless you as you spread the light of Christ- Mary M.Version: 3.115
Amazing app.I love the Universalis app. It’s like having a breviary in your pocket! It’s very convenient as you can read the liturgy of the hours anywhere you are. It’s perfect for me because I am visually impaired, and as a result, it’s hard for me to read a traditional breviary, but I have no trouble reading with the Universalis app since I can adjust the font size. I would not be able to pray the liturgy of the hours without this app. I am so thankful that I downloaded this app. It’s worth every penny. It has helped my prayer life and faith life tremendously. Thank you to the developers, and may God bless you all..Version: 3.80
Highly usefulAs a priest of 25 years, I’ve tried many apps to use, especially while traveling. This one, by far, is the best that I’ve discovered. I’ve been using this app for all my daily prayers, including the Divine Office, and find it inspiring and easy to use. I love all the options, the translations, and the extra information on the saints. It’s especially easy to use when I celebrate mass and don’t have access to an English Missal. I recommend it to all of my priest friends, and to the laity who ask me for direction on daily prayer..Version: 3.132
Great prayer appThis is an app that I use daily. I started off using Universalis for praying Morning and Evening prayer. But I quickly found out it has a lot more useful options such as all the other prayers of the Liturgy of the Hours including the option to combine the Office of Readings with Morning prayer, and the option to choose the two year or one year cycle for the Office of Readings. It also has several good Books to choose from for daily spiritual reading (reading a small excerpt each day) and Lectio Divina, the Angelus, and the Rosary..Version: 3.130
Much better than iBreviaryUnlike early editions from years ago, all the antiphons and prayers seem to be exactly according to the official breviary. This app has completely downloaded all the prayers and options, so you don’t need a regular Wi-Fi connection to pray the office. My only annoyance is that the drop-down menu to switch between hours (e.g. from vespers to compline) is in the same place as the iOS switch windows dropdown, which makes it easy to hit the wrong button. That’s rather annoying, but my only complaint..Version: 3.110
God bless you, Universalis!! 😇I had been using the Divine Office and now deciding their Hymns to be like a cookie cutter…same authors/music and other generic qualities that I’ve noticed over time. Now I’ve paid for Universalis, and never happier I be now!! It’s more than worth the price. These folks have gone the extra mile with ease of operation, as well as the marvelous user friendly options. The best part…I don’t need to activate the web to use this. Simply FANTASTIC!! I wish to thank ALL the folks who’ve made this app possible for all of us.💫 THANK YOU!!!.Version: 3.100
Very helpful prayer appI have been using Universalis for many years and I enjoy it more now than ever. I converted to Catholicism over 20 years ago and found Universalis on my journey into the Catholic Church when I was going through RCIA (now OCIA). I wanted to start praying the Liturgy of Hours and thankfully found Universalis which made praying the Hours so much easier and less intimidating. I love the Liturgy of the Hours and all the additional help, prayers, history, and insights provided by Universalis! Keep praying and many thanks!.Version: 3.155
Love this app. Makes praying the Liturgy doableThis app makes praying the Liturgy of the Hours very easy. I am very pleased with this app. I’ve been using it for for a few years now. I have the 4 book set and also Christian prayer but I find myself using the app over the books (and I love books!). I like that I can easily copy verses that move me so I can sen them to my loved ones. I really like the ability to see the Readings for the Mass each day and also the anniversary cards are a great bonus feature..Version: 3.96
Beautiful, easy-to-use appUniversalis is bar none the best app in which to pray the Liturgy of the Hours. It is beautifully customizable- font size, background color, and choice of language, or even a parallel language (a great way to learn your prayers in Latin, French, and others). The display is gorgeous; the interface is a graceful delight to use. I appreciate too the option of reading from the Jérusalem Bible. There are options also to have the prayers read aloud, and Compline ends the day with beautiful chant, if you wish. I.Version: 3.91
UniversalisI submit to you, what is the purpose of this short human life set before us? From the Balt. catechism and from the New Catechism: (Paraphrasing) “to know God, love God, and serve God with all your heart: for His Glory.” That is not reasonably possible without falling into the trap of worshiping and praying to the god of one’s own imagination unless one possesses genuine knowledge of The Word. Universalis, read to me every morning, permits me a path to knowing the true God of the universe, the mystery of the incarnation and His passion, while safeguarding me from idiosyncratic meanderings and terminal confusions..Version: 3.135
HymnsThe site is most useful but the selection of hymns is poor. During seasons such as Lent and Advent the same hymns are used day after day. Some are long and use archaic language. Since I pray the Office of Readings and Morning Prayer one after the other - as I suppose other people also do - the same hymn is used for both hours. There is a very rich hymnody in the English language, both older and newer, so I believe that the choice of hymns should reflect that tradition. Thank you..Version: 3.108
UniversalisI really appreciate this app! I am able to read the Lectio Divina and the reading daily before mass. It helps me be prepared for the reading and I am more attentive to the homily. I really love the spiritual readings! They are timeless and beautiful. The office of the readings is very convenient even if I am unable to read them all in one day. This is helping me in my spiritual growth. It is convenient to access when waiting for appointments or when taking a pause at work to refocus..Version: 3.150
Love UniversalisIt is easy to use. I can quickly get to the daily Mass readings. I can choose which version. Also if the lecture is doing an alternate reDing I can easily switch. I also know ahead of time if there are alternative readings. Great for when I am a lecture. I have a notification for the 12:00 prayers. And it brings me right to my prayers. Also new that I came be reminded of my loved ones date of death and read something that I have written about them..Version: 2.99
An excellent ministryAs clergy, one of our commitments is to pray the office. This application provides us with the text and audio, in English and in Latin (the Latin voice for some of the hours), such that I can close my eyes transport myself, along with the brethren praying all around the world, into a mystical union. It’s absolutely beautiful rendition with a clear voice that is peaceful, well paced and understandable. Note that the English version is a bit different than used in the USA, the Latin is provided which is purely consistent the world over. God’s Blessings!!!.Version: 2.95
Keeps my focus on prayerThis app has changed my prayer life. I have at my fingertips the width and breadth of the Catholic Church’s liturgy, readings, Divine Office and more. It’s easy to use (once you understand how the menu works) and is filled with golden nuggets of surprises that enhance worship and knowledge - weekly podcast, readings from Church Fathers, the option to have prayers read aloud and more. I wholeheartedly recommend this app for those who what to deepen their relationship with Holy Scripture, the Church, and our Lord..Version: 3.163
Compassion, Intention, TeachingAlthough our Lectionary is a bit different, your reading has the intention of the Word that helps my understanding. You are teaching me in practice to proclaim with the Holy Spirit to our congregation, Saint Angela Merici, in Pacific Grove, California. The resources you provide are essential to a deeper probe into the poetry of the Word of God. Thank you for coming to my side in this glorious journey. I look forward to the compassion in your voice and professionalism in teaching and proclaiming. I pray for your peace and strength. Beverley Ann Schmidt.Version: 3.159
Who would have thought…Although definitely not the same as praying with the community it does the job in light of its portability. I’ve been using Universalis for a number of years. It’s been a great help in keeping me focused on taking a few moments during the day to stop and reflect. This app is especially helpful in that I can take it with me anywhere. There are those times where carrying a book around is impossible.Version: 3.110
What a joy to useThis has been a game changer for me in terms of opening up the Liturgy of the Hours to me as a lay person. I tried to learn how to do it with all the ribbons in a print version…but I just didn’t have enough brain space available to pull it off. Universalis has made it all easy so I can focus on the actual prayer. It’s such a relief. Also, I just paid once and I’m always up to date. I couldn’t be happier with my purchase..Version: 3.102
Universalis provides a superior English breviaryThose who regret the American adoption of colloquial language in prayer will delight that there is now an inexpensive alternative online. Universalis provides a reverent usage of English for those who demand intelligence gent worship and prayer. All of this is provided not in a 4-volume bookset, but at a nominal cost. Universalis is an ongoing service that provides ongoing current information for subscribers. I, for one, am deeply grateful to our English brethren for this distinctive alternative!.Version: 3.96
Excellent Divine Office AppThis app is very frequently updated. It has many extras including free books to read. I was able to use the Anglican Ordinariate calendar for North America! For a small monthly fee you have access to the spoken word by a human for all the hours. Also you can choose the Bible translation for the Mass. There are many other choices as well. Altogether this is an app which over delivers for the money..Version: 3.164
Thank youUniversalis a wonderful app for today that we can carry with us where we go on our phone and pray the office during the day. It is both inspirational and educational.. Sometimes there is a problem though when I stop a reading and then try to continue it then goes back to the beginning of the office. I wish they could fix that glitch.. but I am very grateful for this app..Version: 3.128
Great App! The Developers Listen!!!Curios about LOTH, just starting, every once in a while (myself), or every day prayer… This app is a must if you use electronic format! I have the notifications set up in the background (just in case I make time to pray)… it works! The readings grab you, scriptures draw you in, and before you know it… you’re participating in the ongoing liturgy. I recommend you read through the ‘Help and Tips’ section under information. There are so many options to personalize the way you use this app… I may have missed something, but after reading all the comments, it appears the developers have worked through all the comments (requests and critiques) to meet the needs of the users. Great app! So thankful! Praise be to the Lord Jesus!.Version: 3.88
My daily companionUniversalis has been my daily companion for years. There have been times when I have drifted away but it always is there - in patiently awaiting my rediscovery. It is a place of peace in a busy, chaotic and sometimes frightening day. With it I can quietly get close to God knowing that millions of other people around the world are offering the same prayers to Our Lord at the same time. It brings me peace and closeness to my Creator..Version: 3.91
Superior app for the Mass readings in Liturgy of the HoursThis app is far superior to any others for both the readings of the Mass, and the Liturgy of the Hours. It is accessible whether or not one has access to the Internet. The new addition of the spiritual reading is very helpful. I also like the Lectio. I utilize nearly every section. Thank you for your continuous updates and improvements. I have been using this app for over six years..Version: 3.25
A wonderful practice to add to your lifeI got this app wanting to get all the guesswork taken out of the liturgy of the hours since I had never even heard of the practice before. It’s wonderful to start the day with scripture and songs and meditation. Bonus points of peacefulness when I pray it outside in the morning. I love that this is a flat rate and not a subscription. Totally worth it, it’s like buying a book..Version: 3.149
This app continues to impress me every dayI started using Universalis a few years ago ago for Morning Prayer. I love the speakers’s tone and reading speed. Once iOS 14 allowed developers to use widgets, this app immediately creates beautiful widgets that are color-coded based on the liturgical calendar. Additionally, I just discovered that they have a CarPlay app for easy access to prayers in the car. This app and it’s developed deserve more credit!.Version: 3.72
The developers are very responsiveThe app is always getting improvements and I really appreciate that. One more request: when the prayers are being read, have the Watch app open the now playing app so that the volume etc. can be controlled. Right now the Watch app opens Universalis to the scripture readings of the day which is not at all useful since you are praying the hours..Version: 3.122
LexioMy wife and I begin many days with morning prayer and lexio divina. Through the Holy Spirit they guide our morning reflections which prompt our daily intentions. Grateful for the ease with which this app blends scripture and letters of the saints for our prayer life. We likely would not do the same with a book version of the liturgy of the hours. This technology is a bright spot in these troubling times. Pray for humanity. Pray for families everywhere..Version: 3.110
The LayWe must do our part. We must pray and learn. As Bishop Sheen said, if lay people could just give 15-30 minutes of solid prayer. Jesus asked Peter for one hour. We can at least give 15 everyday. I found routine I like and I love learning of the early church writings. When I see people like Bishop Barron sending out post about the same Saints I just read. Means we are reading the same text together. Very cool..Version: 3.164
My first choiceUniversalis is my first choice for praying the Liturgy of the Hours. It is maintained with excellence. I am grateful for being able to access the Carmelite Calendar, among others. I also love the Remembrance Cards the will bring up your deceased on the anniversary of their death to facilitate praying for them. It is rich with Spiritual reading and biographies of the saints. It is worth every penny for the audio..Version: 3.133
Love the spiritual readingsI was introduced through Laudate to this app. It is a great part of my daily routine now. My favorite section is the spiritual readings because it has introduced me to the writings of Church Fathers and Christian teachings. I do recommend the app. If it has Spanish option that would be great for those family members that only want to read Catholic content in Spanish..Version: 3.149
The WayTime and time again our Church talks about the importance of prayer; about creating and nurturing our relationship with our Heavenly Father through prayer and works. This form of prayer, the Liturgy of Hours and Mass, leads us to Love, Faith and Hope. Universalis provides us with “The Way” to Jesus Christ, our Blessed Mother Mary and educates us with history of salvation. So happy to have and use this in my life..Version: 3.143
Liturgical Living Made EasierMy wife and I recently have decided to have our family homeschool and live liturgically. And this app makes everything unbelievably easier for me as the leader of the house. The saints of the day is really really interesting. Having all this integrated into our shared iCal is amazing for our family. Oh and Latin! 🥰 keep up the great work!.Version: 3.72
Fantastic Daily Prayer appFor anyone interested in praying the Catholic daily prayer in the “Liturgy of the Hours” format, this app is a fantastic way to do it. No longer do you need to learn the logistics of manipulating a breviary in order to pray the Hours properly, because this app lays them out with the daily propers and specifics in one readable format for each day. It’s a fantastic resource..Version: 3.164
Was once faithful to the Magisterium but no longerIn today’s commentary on the Gospel, I came across this little gem: “To fail to appreciate the other great religions of the world is an act not of homage to the Christian God but of failure to appreciate the divine omniscience and omnipotence.” There is only one true religion in the world and all others are in opposition to it. If we allow them even one foothold in the battle that Christ has called us to engage in, then we have lost the entire war and will be responsible for the loss of countless millions of souls. I for one have decided that Universalis no longer teaches orthodoxy and will therefore go elsewhere for my Divine Office..Version: 3.49
One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism. (Eph 4:5-6)It’s simply the best app for a Christian in today’s world..Version: 3.163
MrGood for the soul and am daily trying to extend it to many other believers. May God bless you all.Version: 3.162
Beautiful way to get closer to God🙏Blessed to have this.It has changed my life. Like the priest told us in mass,"If the prayer does not change you, change the prayer🩷.Version: 3.159
ThoughtfulYou can tell this was developed with lots of thought and care. The anticipatory prompts are very much appreciated. Great resource..Version: 3.157
Great AppI love this app. I tried Ibrivary but I prefer this one for it ease of use and it is easy to celebrate Mass with this app as well.Version: 3.152
Best prayer appEasy to use and very comprehensive.Version: 3.143
Best LOTHThis is undoubtedly the best Catholic app for the Liturgy of the Hours, if not the best Catholic app all around. Having purchased this twice since 2017, it’s one of the best purchases you can make for your spiritual journey — user friendly, lots of options, and the developer is always updating the app..Version: 3.142
SusanThis a tremendous resource. As someone involved in liturgy planning it is great to be able to find the days and readings that I need easily. I like the reflections that accompany the Mass readings. The ability to have access to a variety of reading materials by many authors is also a source of enrichment. And, of course, access to the hours of the day is wonderful!.Version: 3.142
Beautiful appWhat a blessing this app is. So good, try it..Version: 3.134
Best App EverIt's been several years now that I have this app. It's amazing. This is my favourite of all apps I have. It even has the reflection verses for each Rosary bead, and even some books included you can schedule to read little bits at regular intervals along with the Divine Office. I also use this as a planner for liturgical music at Mass. i can't recommend this enough..Version: 3.132
My AM GO ToThanks for all daytime options, lectio, the hours, the weekly “look ahead” but especially the Mass Readings with commentaries by Hugh Wansbrough OSB. I find myself saying “never thought of this before” after a read of the HW commentary. Paul H Canada.Version: 3.122
UniversalisWith my Liturgy of the Hours prayer book this Universalis is a helpful guide to me when there are special feast days and just to follow along with the book. I don’t know what I would do without it..Version: 3.90
Lovely apps with a few small quirksThis app is an indispensable part of my routine as a Priest. The only fault I can find is that within the order of Mass not all the rubrics are there. I also dislike being charged more to have audio when I’ve already paid a lot just to have full use of the application. I find it odd that there is not the option to choose Fransiscan as an option for religious order..Version: 3.102
Great Bible AppThis app has all the bells and whistles, literally. All the daily readings you need, all the saint days, Catholic Art resources, audio if you want it. Awesome! Highly recommended!.Version: 3.100
Thank youThis app is just what I needed. A voice that is clear and pleasant to listen to..Version: 3.82
ThanksThanks.Version: 3.71
Beautiful addition to my prayer lifeChanging a widget doesn’t always make an app better. A selection of widgets in this case is preferable..Version: 3.54
Amazing during the pandemicThank you for making this app. It is so helpful as I try to pray and live a liturgical life during these times when churches are still closed here in Ontario, Canada. God bless you..Version: 3.42
Love this AppI use it frequently and really appreciate it- simple and intuitive- no bugs or issues- a blessing and a help! Thank you very much!.Version: 3.35
Great app!!I use it all the time. All that's missing would be the responsorial psalm for the mass and the antiphon for each of the prayer psalms in the divine office and it would be set..Version: 0
Useful and neededI have used Universalis services for a number of years on different formats and I am glad that the company has made them available for the iPhone/iTouch platform. This is a program for those who need it and we will gratefully pay what is demanded. Just for the record, the printed format expands through a set of five books, $40 each in most editorials. You calculate. I have used it for the past two weeks and I am not disappointed. I had no crashes even though I found browsing through long text a bit slow. Today I downloaded a new update that seems to address this and other minor glitches that are typical of v. 1.00. I haven't tested yet. I respect the individuals who wrote some of the negative (no technical) reviews, but not their opinions. Because they write from the ignorance of someone who does not know what this program does for those of us who need it. There's no place in iTunes' reviews for such misleading rigidity. Kudos for Universalis. I look forward for future updates and revisions..Version: 0
Needs WorkA useful app for the few who need it but it crashes when you pinch to change the text size. It is necessary to have the pinch, rotate and scroll all working to allow the user to change the text size on the small screen to make it readable. I look forward to a update to get these things working..Version: 0
Thanks be to God for this appIt's the reason I wanted an iPhone. No, not kidding. The finest Divine Office, ibreviary app there is, not reliant on an Internet connection and fully searchable - go to any day of any year any time. Not biased to one country's calendar; select your country for more specific readings..Version: 0
ExcellentA lot of content, worth every penny. No crashed, text sizing and position sensing work well..Version: 0
App won't update on iPadGreat app! It is used daily but the latest update March 15, 2016...won't update...the updating process for this app only, stalls after showing a complete download icon (blue circle around pause button). Please fix.Version: 2.32
Need Psalms addedThis is a great application. I would give it 5 stars if the Psalms for the daily Readings at Mass were added. That way the application would be completely self contained..Version: 0
Does what it says and does it well.... However....$33 is insane for this app! I think this is one of the most expensive app on iTunes..Version: 0
Very Incomplete albeit HelpfulFor Canadians it is helpful but incomplete: various Eucharistic prayers variants IV and V are missing and our readings based on the NSRV-CE also missing. Considering the price of this app this is barely acceptable..Version: 2.55
Superb app ...In every respect. But it doesn’t look like the new feature regarding the Today screen showing the Saint of the day works..Version: 2.11
Almost perfectI have tried several missal apps and finally the translation is word for word even the psalms in this app but it really depends where you live. I live in the Caribbean. However, the negative is that the font size is way too small and there is no ability to change the size..Version: 2.10
Great app to keep up with daily readings.Like the app, and I haven't used it much since I get daily emails. But one thing I find annoying is the inability to open the settings page with any sort of ease and not being able to scroll between pages, because the page flip just doesn't cut it, feels too unnatural..Version: 2.10
Wonderful application ... presentation needs workThis application is great, and really I would give it 5 stars if not for the terrible implementation of the page-turning animation. Please, your application needs to look like it belongs on an iPad. Look at the animations in Calendar and iBooks. It actually looks like you are turning a page there, and not some pseudo-3D hinge effect. That said, the application makes praying the Liturgy of the Hours very simple. No need to fumble with a breviary, the liturgical calendar is at your fingertips, as is a great amount of information concerning the saints. Likewise, the new English translation of the order of Mass is very helpful. Overall, a good app ... just fix that page turning and it would be beautiful..Version: 1.68
4 out of 5Hope this version fixes the 'go to' star on the bottom of the calander. If you accidentally hit a month on the right side of the calendar the star on the bottom is supposed to bring you back to today's date, but it hasn't worked in the last few versions (it used to work) other than that its great although I don't know which bible version they are using at Mass because the wording is not the same and sometimes completely different. New American orJerusalem, must be another..Version: 1.88
