"It’s one of those rare photography apps that creates effects that few others are capable of, and it does it easily and with better results."
— Marty Yawnick, Life In LoFi

-----------------------

How many times have you tried to capture artful images with your iPhone camera but were left wishing you had more features to work with? Slow Shutter Cam puts an end to mere snapshots and gives you some of the most powerful features of a DSLR camera. All this, in a package that fits in your pocket.

Slow Shutter Cam offers three capture modes to capture unique images:

MOTION BLUR: Equivalent to the shutter priority mode on a DSLR, the Motion Blur mode is perfect for creating ghost images, waterfall effects or suggesting movement in your photographs by adding a blur.

LIGHT TRAIL: The Light Trail mode allows you to 'paint' with light, show car light trails and fireworks or capture any other moving light in a unique way. Unlike shooting with a DSLR and being tied to specific rigid settings to obtain good results, the Light Trail mode takes care of the essentials, letting your creativity soar!

LOW LIGHT: In low light conditions, this capture mode allows the camera to accumulate every photon of light hitting the sensor. The longer the shutter speed, the more light it will accumulate. You can even fine-tune the result using the exposure compensation slider to achieve the exact effect you want!

Highlights:

• Unlimited Shutter Speed and manual ISO
• Option to resume capture and create multiple exposure photos
• Real time live preview - See the result in real time
• Innovative 'Freeze' and ‘Blur Strength’ controls
• Tap to adjust focus/exposure
• Time-lapse Intervalometer
• Apple Watch support and handy Self-Timer
• Full resolution support on every devices

With Slow Shutter Cam on your iPhone you get the features of a DSLR camera with the convenience of a device that you can drop in your pocket and take with you wherever you go. Download it now and put an end to mere snapshots!

Slow Shutter Cam App Comments & Reviews

Slow Shutter Cam Positive Reviews

Good but noisy night photosOnly used the Low Light capture mode. The controls are easy to use so I rarely needed to review the instructions. I like how the display shows the image live. Night photos are bright, showing stars fainter than the unaided eye can see. Photos show the brightest dark sky objects such as M31 even from the bright skies at home! Photos are noisy even with High Noise Reduction. Longer exposures are slightly less noisy. Use at least 8 sec to reduce noise; 30 sec has slightly less noise and no star trailing. I usually use the app when I put the iPhone in a Pocket Tripod, a plastic holder that folds up to fit in a wallet..Version: 4.9.4

It’s good, but low light isn’t. (11pro max)First things first I am using the 11 pro max. I tried using this for low light and night sky photos both, and while the app itself isn’t too bad, it just doesn’t work right. The low light photos come out blurry, iso messes with the color of the environment if it’s too low, but if it’s too high then the photo is way to bright, and the noise reduction doesn’t seem to help. I understand real iso should be adjusted to the correct level but iso should also be as low as possible to reduce noise in the photo and not change colors. If this is remotely what you’re going for and have an iPhone 11 I wouldn’t even bother because the low light on these phones outplays this app with the quality it produces, even if it can’t get super bright..Version: 4.9.2

Simple & powerfulCreativity doesn’t require complexity and complex to learn photographic tools. This is a deceptively simple, powerful tool for every photographers tool bag. I appreciate the apps automatic options which allow for advancing to the next image without having to hit, delete and slow down my workflow. This app adds a tremendously beneficial & Powerful, creative tool, which enables even beginner photographers to widen their creative repertoire without expensive lenses and complex post production techniques, time and efforts. The old adage that a (well curated) picture is worth so much more than 1000 words is true. For those interested in seeing the potential of this app I have a website showcasing what can be done with only a camera phone & this app. (WOW) No postproduction Photoshop just the phone & your tool that slows down time allowing pocket photographers to unleash their creative photographer within- with ease. Enjoy your new creative tool!.Version: 5.7

An amazing creative toolI’ve been using this app for years now — it’s my all-time favorite app (and I’m an app junkie). I never write reviews but this one deserves recognition - heck, I keep it on my tool bar. This app has loads of professional controls (I don’t profess to understand them all but they are a lot of fun to play with). It takes fantastic (and forgiving) selfies — set the self timer and intervalometer, stand in front and just be natural... talk, dance, be still, whatever. The creative possibilities of this app are endless..Version: 4.8.1

Nice tool. Could use a few tweaks.Love the app and use it a Fair amount as I love motion blur and light trails. Here the thing though...I really wish I could take several shots, and go back and edit them later. I miss out on some good action because I have to shoot, edit, save, and clear the image before I can take a second shot. Solving that would be awesome. Maybe it’s something they could put on a future release. Or maybe that capability is there and I’m just too dumb to find it. Would also be cool if it didn’t think I wanted to compost every shot. Could you make a setting that clears the shot after saving or something?.Version: 4.8.1

THE ONLY WAY YO MAKE PHONE PHOTOGRAPHY A TRUE ARTLook, I did the photography thing. Manual camera. Developed my film. Etc, etc. Back then, there were no digital SLR’s. In fact, digital cameras were just point and shoot devices, a novel new thing to hook up to your powermac G4. Sure there was photoshop but digital art was still generally viewed warily by the art community at large. With manual cameras, you gotta painstakingly adjust every single thing, from the camera itself, to your own physical position, and take things you can’t control into consideration; ambient lighting, ugly backround objects, etc. In the end you can’t just edit the photo and erase this or that. My point? I CAN NOW USE MY PHONE AND TAKE PHOTOGRAPHS AT NIGHT UTILIZING THE SAME SKILLS AS I DID WITH A MANUAL CAMERA. AND THEY ARE AMAZING. Thank you slow shutter devs. You have truly made an impact on my life..Version: 4.9.9

This took great phone pictures in Asia!Love this app. A few summers ago, I could either afford a fancy digital camera or a plane ticket to Taiwan from a neighboring country where I was working. I picked the latter, and armed myself with my iPhone 6 and this app. I got such amazing pictures! Love the slow shutter for water blur effects with a tripod, and how the night camera lights up my images. It remains one of my favorite trips, and this app helped me capture some of my favorite pictures..Version: 4.6.2

Worth every coin.Depending on how hardcore, you as an artist, in the field of computer art of any kind, souls have this app. With just the little it has, the amount of abilities you can find in those is fascinating. I know I have created some pieces that I couldn’t creat any other way. This is probably that, diamond in the rough, one needs to have within their Arsenal! Thank you for the creation of this app. Highly recommended!!.Version: 4.9.3

Best for ICM and Light paintingReally pleased with this app. Like the way you see the results as they render, and the way you can pause, save interim file, and continue to layer effect. I have submitted several support questions and they have been responded to quickly. Only thing I would put on my wish list is the ability to save result as a RAW file..Version: 5.3.3

The best camera app on appstoreOut of all camera apps I've tried in iPhone, this might be the best app that gives the most controls to the users. You can even shoot I'm bulb mode. I'm not sure if this actually controls the shutter speeds or it is just another illusion effect that it uses but the night pictures look great using this app. Totally worth the money. Five out of five..Version: 4.6.2

I never write reviewsThis is probably my first review on an app in 2-3 years. It’s just not something I do. But this application does exactly what it says it does. If you want double exposure, blurred motion, painting with light, or ultra low light pictures with up to 1 minute exposure this application does it. And instant favorite app!.Version: 5.1

Thanks... for no help. This app was supposed to help me take a picture in the dark... at night.... but I’m still getting blurry/grainy photos. I steadied myself, I tried HDR I messed with the shutter as well as anything else that was supposed to help, but I never got one good picture. All I wanted to do was take a picture of the Blood moon. I literally wanted only to take that one picture. And I’ve missed my opportunity now. -_- Although I will say this app has potential for other good photos... just with light..Version: 4.8

Good alternative for heavy dslr camerasI haven’t rated this app since time I purchased it cause I haven’t been satisfied with footage made by shaking hands. Then I bought a lightweight selfie stick with tripod, and right after, I tested this app again. So it works just perfect now. Just don’t forget to keep your phone still and you get better pics..Version: 4.9.2

My Go To App for Abstract PhotographyFor the past couple of years, I’ve been working with ICM - International Camera Movement/Abstract photography. SlowShutter is hands down the App to use. Actually gives better results than my so called real camera. It’s used by many members of the ICM photographers group..Version: 5.2

So Far So Good...Took some amazing photos of two mountain streams coming together into one-definitely use a camera stand or some other stabilization for your phone otherwise you will be deleting every photo if your trying any blurring... only 4 stars because I haven’t really used it more than once or any of the other options...once I have I will update my review! But so far so good! Cheers!🌸.Version: 4.8.1

One big problemWith this new version if you’re m shooting tiff format the first exposure works fine. But when I shoot the next exposure the app crashes in the middle of the exposure this happens repeatedly. My only work around is to take my first shot, then quit the app , launch it again and repeat the process for every shot.Version: 5.7

AmazingGoogle “dunns river falls” I used this app for the first time at this place in Jamaica and the pictures you find are the pictures I was able to also take without my professional camera. Once you learn how the settings work you will be very surprised what your iPhone can do. This app is amazing!.Version: 4.8.1

Incredible!I’ve had this app for years. Almost forgot I still had it and noticed it’s been regularly updated for the entire time. Took it for a spin and blown away how great it is. Dang! This app has aged and improved like a fine wine! Thrilled to have rediscovered this bona fide gem!!!.Version: 4.9.2

PerfectionThis app is absolutely perfect for capturing images while controlling the shutter. I’m sooooo looking forward to video mode soon. That will be a game changer and will spark so much creativity for me personally and I’m sure others. Robert said it should be coming soon, so I’m very excited!.Version: 5.1

My go to app for photographing waterfallsI think this is the best slow shutter speed app out there. It does a great job at motion blur. I haven't tried the light trail or low light modes, but hope to try these this summer. Two additions that would make this a primo app would be a tiltmeter and the ability to shoot in RAW. Thanks.Version: 4.8.1

So slow it's goodI’m really happy with this app has never glitched on me & I’ve used this app with a few different iPhones. Iphone 4S, 6, XR & 14. It has always performed as expected. I do wander why the exposure and focus lock reset after an intervalometer session is complete..Version: 5.7

Be sure to buy the right app… This one! There are two slow shutter apps. This one is the one you want to buy. I bought the other by mistake first. 👎🏻 So save yourself the hassle and buy the app from Cogitap Software..Version: 5.2

Review Slow Shutter AppIt’s a decent app with quick shutter capabilities for nice sequence shots captures a broad effect of settings you can customize to your liking all in all I rate it a 5 even though it was a cheap purchase I was not let down..Version: 4.9.9

I’m not quite sure how to use light modeWhen I use light mode in a dark setting and set to around 30 seconds of shutter speed. The photo don’t any brighter than normal? Am I using it incorrectly? How to get the photo to brighten up like with the default camera app where a 10 second exposure time will give you a night shot?.Version: 4.9.6

Greatest for ICMThis is my favorite app for doing intensional camera movement. I like it for doing blur with single or double exposure. Since my DSLR cannot do multiple images, this is my go to for overlaying multiple images along with movement in my ICM photos..Version: 5.6.3

Love this App!!!Knowing that we’d only have about 6 hours of daylight on our trip to London I looked for an app to help me with photos taken in the dark. This app did not disappoint!!! I have some spectacular photos of London all lit up for Christmas and gorgeous shots of the London Eye, all from my phone!!!! Fabulous App!!!.Version: 4.8

Clean intuitive AppLove the app and the control it provides. Would be amazing to have integrated with the Fjorden grip to be able to cycle through and set options would make it perfect.Version: 5.7

I sure it will be great!I was looking for a quick long expo. app to snap a few shots for the 4th and came across this app. I am totally unfamiliar with slow shutter so I am excited to learn what this app has to offer. Customer service is very concise and helpful. Great app. for a great price!.Version: 4.9.4

It does pretty goodI couldn't find another app that help take nighttime pictures. But you have to realize that the iPhone camera or really any mobile device camera is not optimal for capturing super long exposure starlight pictures..Version: 4.5

Great intentional movement appWorks just the way I want. My only issue with the app is that it does NOT include a 2:3 ratio Aperture option. Why does no one offer a 2:3 option? 35mm cameras have been around forever, so why not 2:3????.Version: 5.3.2

Made a noisy camera usefulMy iPad takes pictures that are too speckled with noise because its camera is a bit defective. With the motion blur feature of this app, the noise is reduced by about 95%. I can actually take still pictures now!.Version: 4.6.2

Amazing App!I downloaded this while I was at the Vancouver lookout to take some photos with my iPhone. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the photos which came out! The light trails option was spectacular!!! Highly recommend it!!!.Version: 4.8

Just starting outWhile I am a photographer, I really enjoy trying new technology. I’m having great fun with this and figuring it out as I go BUT file size has been very small. Just found out I can save as PNG or Tiff if I have room. Maybe that will solve the file size issue. I’ve gotten some nice shots I’d like to keep.Version: 4.9.2

Best for long exposure shotsIf you like to shoot at dusk , night with minimal lighting this is the app for you If you like to shoot waterfalls and get that silky look on the water this the app for you I have tried others and this is still the number 1.Version: 4.8.1

Super fun and easy to get into.Just wanted to express the insane amount of fun I have had playing with this app. This app is so expressive and easy to use. Wish there was a way to post some of my pictures I have created. Thanks to the creators!.Version: 4.6.2

Amazing! It’s a great app for the price it’s at. If you want to make professional looking photos then this is the perfect app. The in app editor matches the apps quality, and it’s easy to navigate around..Version: 5.6.3

Slow shutterIt is a wonderful full app, that does just what it is supposed to do: long exposures, light trails, etc.. It like all cameras, does work best with tripod of other methods of steadying the camera. You do have to practice to get it right..Version: 4.9.1

Plz add countdown timeLike native photo app, one may hit the shoot button and after two seconds the picture will be taken. This will help a lot in reducing the effect of movement of device when taking pictures!! Please!! It is really helpful for long exposure.Version: 4.8.1

Never BetterNot only is the APP just what it says it is, but the response times to my email query was nearly immediate. If every APP developer acted in this manner there’d be a lot more 5 star ratings. Best App for this purpose in my humble opinion..Version: 4.6.1

Shutter TimerI wish you would change that to allow more than 60 seconds before the bulb option. Up to 2 minutes would be nice.Version: 5.1

By far my favoriteI have tried many long exposure apps from free to paid and this app offers the best settings and interface to me..Version: 5.1

Great for light trailsI really like the help this app gives me to get great street photos. I can control the density of light trails from auto traffic. The tools are simple and easy to use. It’s a great addition to a photography toolbox..Version: 4.8.1

Remote blue tooth shutterIn my apple 15 pro max my remote blue tooth shutter works fine but using this app it raises the phone volume! Can you fix this? I turned on the volume shutter and the remote trigger works, thanks..Version: 5.7.1

Works great!Had an issue with the app connecting to my Apple Watch, but it was user error, phone was lying on the table instead of pointing at an object. Support for this app is awesome! Love this app too!.Version: 5.1

Great tool and fun tooThe creators of the app obviously I’ve put a ton of energy into it and I enjoy time to exposures it’s a capability that this app excels in. So many useful settings. Give it a try!.Version: 4.9.9

AwesomeI’ve been trying a lot of apps.. but this one tops it off.. love how simple you can take photo,, and I recommend this app for those who want to take those good photo with out use or forgetting a dslr....Version: 4.8

Great appI don’t really take videos so this is fine for me. It serves my purpose. It’s a great app, very simple and easy to work with. Developer response immediately when help is needed. Highly recommended..Version: 4.6.2

Good appVery good app just learning how to use it . I enjoy astrophotography and use it for that , open sky shots though I’m getting an adapter for my 8” Schmidt Cassegrain. Would love it if this app could have a hands free bulb type setting that could be activated remotely ( voice maybe?) Thanks.Version: 4.6.2

Easy to use but pics are blurryI got this for night time photography, but the iPhone11 camera seems to out perform every time. I haven’t found what this app is good for, but based on other reviews, I must be missing something..Version: 4.9.6

Great!!It’s a really great app, I’m just finding it hard to find places to take long exposure low light..Version: 4.5

Night camera go-toWhen the night is clear and I want to photograph the stars I set up my phone and use my Watch complication to take the photos so I’m not disturbing the focus. This is my go-to app for night shots but also for painting-like photographs of waterfalls and flowing waterways. Just change a few simple settings and let the app do its magic!.Version: 5.6.3

BrilliantExcellent App ! Easy to use, fun and worth the money. Quickest five star rating of 2023.Version: 5.3.2

Tutorial MAYBE!!!!!So a reasonably priced app but come on, no sort of introduction or tutorial to help you get shooting with a bit of confidence. I think I can figure most stuff out but I want to take advantage of the full functionality of the app. This is typical of apps with shortcomings and developers not looking at things from a layman’s perspective. Hopefully YouTube can help🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️.Version: 5.4.3

Great app!I like everything about this app. Clever, easy to use, great picture quality..Version: 5.2

Excellent serviceThank you Thank you Thank you! I now understand what is/was happening with this app when it is on bulb mode. It is exactly what I want/need to do the type of light painting I wish to work on. Your or quick and helpful replies to my many emails we're wonderful. Thank you again. This apps well deserves the 5 star rating I gave it.Version: 5.1

Best long exposure appThis is the best for any form of long exposure - whether by tripod or handheld with ICM effect..Version: 5.1

AmazingAn alternative night mode for devices that don’t support it natively while also a great tool to shoot long-exposure Timelapse.Version: 5.1

Night stalkerI’d be lost without this app!.Version: 4.9.3

Amazing app!The pictures we can take with this app are fantastic! Love it!.Version: 4.9.3

Great low light, noise free!Update (iPhone 11 Pro): I just realized this app has an intervalometer, and used with long exposure means awesome nighttime TimeLapse not available in the native photo app. This is good for water as well, achieving smooth surface and not jittery water. Also I love how all options have an explanation as to why so you understand why a particular setting is not available or constrained in some way. Great work! Original rating (iPhone 6 Plus): This app is fantastic for long exposures! I was able to get some great indoor photos that came out super crisp and noise free, leagues above the stock app that does not stack the exposures so it's quite noisy. Light trails are a cinch too, all round recommend it highly! Great preview video, the Ferris wheel is a great idea, I’ll keep an eye out for moving objects like that!.Version: 4.9.2

Great appBeen using it for a few years, no other apps beat this one on capturing during low light.Version: 4.9.2

Probably best photo appThis app gives you the creativity and quality pictures. I love it!.Version: 4.9.1

Works really wellThis is my go to app for low light, you can achieve great motion blur or no-noise low light images. This is a must have for anybody who wants to get more out of their phone camera. 5 ⭐️.Version: 4.8

Works great!Very nice app. Extends useful light, and opens more night photo opportunities. Simple to use..Version: 4.7

Slow shutter for serious workOne of the best camera apps in this special category, with intuitive controls and unexpected refinements [not found in lesser apps] such as professional output formats [tiff, heif!] variant workflows [so you are not stuck with just one that someone decided would be best for you] and ability to vary shutter speed, blur and iso for fine control over the look of motion abstractions. one wish for future: a mode that offers multi-exposure like image blend [multiply, subtract, screen, etc] controls.....Version: 4.6.2

SuperbA must-have app for doing slow photo work..Version: 4.6.2

Great appThumbs up👍🏻👍🏻 after you took a picture by this app, it looks like a pro. Just keep this updated. Good job guys! Great app👍🏻.Version: 4.0

More than AwesomeHonestly, It made me laugh, It impressed me, It was fabulous!! Love it and will always keep it as my best App!.Version: 4.0

AwesomeThis is an awesome app, I love the way you can adjust the shutter speeds and it looks as good as a real camera.Version: 4.2.2

Fills a gapDefinitely deserving of a spot in my camera bag. But the applications are pretty specific. Produces some very grainy shots. But the occasional gem. Not bad at all considering there isn't much else out there that does what this app does..Version: 1.6

Great idea for low light photographyFinally and app that takes solves low light issues. This is great for boosting light in darker areas but not great for taking pictures in very dark areas. I recommend it for someone that want to take pictures in low light but not in darker areas pictures will become overexposed..Version: 0

Low light perf is okI bought this app to take pics in very low light and for that purpose, and considering the iPhone is not a DSLR, it works as advertised :).Version: 0

Nifty!I am a big fan of long exposures and this app is nice to have in my bag of iPhone photography tricks. Well done!.Version: 0

Great with the iPhone XI've downloaded and paid for probably a dozen manual settings, long exposure camera apps and this is probably the one I'll stick with. I use it exclusively at night for the northern lights on my iPhone X and this app seems to provide the best quality images. The interface isn't perfect but it's a good quality app that does well with the iPhone X - not something any of the others seem to be able to do..Version: 4.2

In a way this app teaches you photographyJust by moving the gauges you can see how the changes of speed etc change your photo results. Good for beginners to Pro. Almost leave your Canon or Nikon behind.Version: 4.2.2

Beautiful picturesExperimenting with the settings I found the pictures I take come out beautiful now, soft, natural and much richer. Able to take low noise, nice pictures in the darkest scenes..Version: 4.1.2

AmazingYou can take the best photos with this.Version: 4.2

Fantastic appLove the option for blur effect on water and light.Version: 4.1.2

Useful!Effects available to shoot with this app are incredible. One of the few really useful photo-widgets on the phone. The app is good enough to get its own photo mode in the standard Camera app!.Version: 4.1.1

Cool appIt does what it claims. No issues no freezes or crashes..Version: 4.0

Almost perfectGreat app, however I wish the Intervalometer mode would compile a timelapse for you. I don't want a bunch of photos in my camera role that I gotta compile after. Also I don't think there is a manual focus feature. Developer please take these 2 points into consideration..Version: 4.0

WoWFantastic ,,, easy to use ...Version: 4.0

Great appAwesome. Highly recommended!.Version: 4.0

Really Good!!!What a good app. Probably the best camera app I've seen in a long time. It's worth the $$.Version: 3.4

Really works in the dark!I was looking for such an app to take better pics of Aurora Borealis w an iPhone. Got some good ones! Taking a street shot at night makes it look like daytime. Fun to play w this app. I use a tripod..Version: 4.0

Get it. Use it. Love it.Easy to use and works great. A fantastic app to have..Version: 4.0

Best AppFor light trails and motion blur without losing details, this app is excellent. Consistent updates and great support makes for a great app..Version: 3.4
