Chordbot App Comments & Reviews

Chordbot Positive Reviews

Incredible tool for composers!Hard to believe that an app that has been around for so long is still so useful. As a songwriter working on a musical this is just what I needed. The only disappointment for me was that the audio export is mono. It doesn’t look like this app is getting new feature updates, but I would love to see stereo export!.Version: 3.1.9

Why no 444hz?While i was pleased to see 432hz available, why no 444hz? it stops at 443hz? honestly i dont know why just about every single music apphas to make it so hard to tune to whatever frequency we want, it really makes the whole internet conspiracy theory about 440hz seem substantial when every single app makes it just about impossible to use anything else without lagging from pitch shifting etc. i really hope the chordbot developer can make 444hz available, that would be great and make me happy with it. besides the occasional crashing and losing my work, ireally dolike chordbot and think it is really great, but i do want to use 444hz and yes, 1hz is an audible difference to me and the 443hz sounds out of tune with my guitar tuned perfect 444hz. i recommend anyone trying 444hz tuning standard, it makes everything feel happy and enriching somehow, whereas both 440 and 432 leave me feeling depressed after a while. 432 feels natural and like nature but in a way, dull, while 440 sounds mechanical and like machinery more than human music, i find 444hz is just about right, not so far from 440 that you have to relearn how to sing yet just brighter enough to feel really nice and positive..Version: 3.1.4

Amazing App! Needs a pro versionGreat for creating song starters. Excellent if you need to quickly make songs for film, television, and or online content. Would love to see a pro version where you buy download more packs of different styles and user templates..Version: 3.1.4

Great platform for launching song ideasThis app is truly versatile and ranks with Suggester as a fave for chord progressions. Even supports midi export. On my wish list is importing midi files. (Please, please, please.) Would also be nice if it supported midi out and worked as audio unit. Very reasonably priced, considering the expansive potential..Version: 3.1.10

Best app for composers who don’t play instrumentsI have written so many songs with this app. I use it for inspiration and quick recordings. Only wish the instruments sounded better. Maybe in the next update 😁.Version: 3.1.10

Raw Idea GeneratorWhile some the interface is not perfectly intuitive, this app still deserves close to five stars for its simple utility when you want to explore chord progressions and modes before exporting ideas into a DAW. Love this app!.Version: 3.1.4

So, so usefulGreat for composing, great for taking notes - and, actually, surprisingly deep if you're willing to dig. I wish it had a few other features, but even without them, it's a Killer App..Version: 3.1.10

Clean, effective, intuitiveThis app is a cut above everything else I’ve tried like it..Version: 3.1.10

Exactly what I neededWhat’s looking for a simple backing tracks app that sounded decent to practice my primary instrument. Amazing value for the price and has the features I need. Great little app packed with functionality..Version: 3.1.10

Well conceived, excellent value, works perfectlyThis app is precisely what I went looking for, only better. If you're a songwriter, it is perfect for sketching out & experimenting with chord progressions. I had tried other more fully-featured sequencing apps but they were all just too complicated & time-consuming for the kind of "sketching" I wanted to do. Chordbot nailed it in terms of intuitive interface, fast, smooth performance, more than enough stylistic options (in the paid version) to help you visualize the song you have in mind to create. Even the free Lite version is excellent and completely usable as-is. I was so grateful for having found it that I wanted to buy the full version in part just to thank and reward the developer. The additional functions in the paid version are well worth the price. Unlike some of the other reviews, I personally would not want to see more features crammed in. As-is, it works perfectly well as a songwriter's companion (or as a backup band for improvising over) and I'd hate to see it get bogged down and more complicated..Version: 2.0

Good but some weird hiccupsI like the layout, like the ease of use. The multiple instruemnts help write chords, since writing for piano is different then guitar. I love the support and the cheap price. However, there are a few things missing that other apps do and some weird, albeit unneccesary hiccups. Not being the best on the spot music theorist, it would be nice to know chords are in and out of scope of whatever key id like to record in. Suggester tells me after a few chords which keys my chords would fit in, restricting me from being too outside the box progression wise. Also, I understand after talking to a very quick and responsive help support, big big plus, that I have 9 tracks to work with, being able to add many layers of instruments to write an entire ensemble, however, I am annoyed that when I export my midi track all 9 tracks, even if I didnt use them, export. I.e. I write a simple C maj to D Maj chord progression in a piano tone, I export it as a midi file, when I import that midi file in Ableton or Logic it adds 9 seperate tracks, in fact in logic it creates 8 extra virtual instruments shutting down my workflow, Ableton is easier to delete. But why? Why does it always have to import 9 midi tracks, 8 of which that are empty?.Version: 2.0.5

Awesome Update!I'd call it quick and dirty, but it's quick, clean and mean! The workflow is easy and logical where most comparable apps are confusing and frustrating. Sure, MIDI out would be interesting bit it's not necessary if you have a DAW i.e. GarageBand, Logic, Ableton Live, etc. The export options are fantastic. You could spend a lot more for a less intuitive program. This is a must for any computer musician! Some things I'd like to see added however is a key or mood selection because I don't see one. Also, I don't see scale selections. I think scale selection with an on/off ability would be useful. Also, the scales and templates could use more variation beyond Western styles to include Eastern influenced scales and World music templates as well as more Modern but less mainstream or conventional template, scale, and rhythmic choices. Lastly, I don't know if the suggestion of adding melodic development would ruin the ease of using Chordbot, but this is another area that I could use help in my compositions. Thanks for this major leap forward!.Version: 2.0

Not BIAB but great portable toolI've used Band in a Box a lot on PC for songwriting support, to try out chord progressions and styles (zillions available) and sometimes even to make a starting track for recording demos (MIDI transfer to SONAR). Chordbot is similar but on a smaller scale (with a lot cleaner interface). The concept and interface are great, and what styles and sounds exist are very good, but it would be nice to have more, even as an in-app purchase since making more styles is clearly more work (and a potential income stream) for the developer. Also for those styles that have drums, a check box to turn drums off would be nice. And also a way to insert a duration with "no chord" (rest or break) would be great. Allowing user-defined styles via MIDI would be cool but probably would require a more complex UI. So room to grow but I still have to give it 5 stars!.Version: 1.1

One of the best song writing/producing appsI use Chordbot for a while now and it’s awfully useful for setting up an entire song quickly. Once the basic arrangement is complete , I just export the midi to a DAW and build on the arrangement in the DAW. I often end up using the piano parts in my produced songs. I would love to see an audio recording feature so I can lay down vocals when inspiration hits or when I don’t have access to my computer. I hope the developer will take time to update this great app with features like intros and fills and much more styles and patterns. I’d gladly pay extra for the update. One thing I noticed is that the app seems to crash more often on the iPad than the iPhone. But those are rare occurrences though. Overall, an incredible tool!.Version: 3.0.5

Technically flexible with few hiccupsChordbot offers excellent export options though the .midi file option does need more general midi export refinement so each track is exported and subsequently able to be imported cleanly. Also an undo button is needed as the interface does not allow for easy and accurate deletion of chords without frequently worrying about careful timing of delete button pressing. Aside from these simple improvements that can be addressed in update, chordbot unlocked offers compelling options to create interesting and dynamic chord and song creation. enhancements like additional chord suggestion options that harmonize well and naming or displaying notes in each chord along with chord name would help the package sell even better.Version: 2.0.5

Like lego for song structuresIt is deceptively simple, but like lego, you can build so much. Contrary to other apps, this one focuses on getting a big picture, from chord progression to overall mood. Like lego, you are limited by the lego pieces, but they are so you can build anything with it. The nice part is it’s very to hear how the pieces work, even if one doesn’t understand everything, they kind of connect anyway. This is why it’s great for sketching, or even stumbling upon ideas. I imagine someone with a lot of familiarity with music theory can be a lot more intentfull, where as someone with no idea whatsoever can build things by trial and error, just like you’d build a car in lego, will be easier than handled steel and rubber..Version: 3.0.5

Still a gem!!This app is just about perfect for what it does and in my experience, there are none better on the app store right now for playing with chord progressions. The developers keep adding awesome new functionality in upgrades. definitely among my top 5 music apps. The latest version adds some cool new functinality with the stylle mixer and chord inversioms with auto or manual inversion sekectin. This really helps in making good-sounding progressions. The interface is still elegant, but I do wonder why they exposed the mixer as the top-level style ui (new users may have trouble with the mixer) but at least the presets are still available (though slightly buried),.Version: 2.0

AwesomeHey guys, I was wondering if you guys could add maraca's, sandbox sounds like that that would go with the acoustic guitar. The drums are awesome electric guitar the acoustic guitar I don't know what legacy means if you would get back to me about that I would appreciate it there's nothing that comes up on my iPhone or iPad for that matter. The app is marvelous and has all the features that I like and a music production I can take it and save it and imported to my drum machine unfortunately the drum machine I have on my phone does not have maracas so you can see the difficulty there also if we had maracas on the on Chordbot I could add it and sequence it with the acoustic guitar. Thanks for a great app.Version: 2.0.5

Great Tool, but can be Buggy!I bought this app last week. I like it a lot. Lots of chords to experiment with, and that's great, but I have one problem. When adding another chord to the song structure, it changes other chords along with it! That's a bummer. This happens almost every time. I have had to save after every chord addition. Why is it doing this? Please fix it and five stars for sure. This also has some nice sounds without having to go Midi and that's a plus too! Oh and a way to quickly undo would also be a plus. Thanks for your quick attention. Nebben.Version: 3.0.5

BrilliantThis is an amazing app. You can select chords from a large range of chord types (some pretty exotic (Min7(#11) or 6/9 anybody?), voicings (inversions, slash chords), time values; set tempo; arrange them into sections and sections into complete songs; hear them with various instrument combinations and styles; transpose; export as audio or MIDI; and other things. I bought this as a way to play around with chords, but now I actually rough out songs on it, import the MIDI files into Logic, and build whole recordings around it. It’s really an amazing Swiss amy knife of song creation. Couldn’t recommend it more highly..Version: 2.14

The MOST COMPLETE CHORD APP!I'm a music producer and songwriter with very limited key skills. The ability to plug in my chord progression and choose a styling makes songwriting a breeze. And for those times I can't figure out what chords I need to compliment my melody, it's perfect! And the Auto Inversion feature is GENIUS! I discovered that on accident and almost crashed my car when I figured out what it was doing! This app is already a staple in my music, as I've used it for 3 songs already. I can't wait to see what's in the update!.Version: 1.25

A Music Sketchbook SupremeAn intuitive, creative, and streamlined app just got better...and this from an app that was already just about perfect. The mixer and abundance of styles allows the user to tweak chord progressions for a more song-like experience. And the developer wisely improved the app without bogging it down with lots if fluff or changing up the workflow that was already a fast and spontaneous experience...I don't need a studio, after all; just an app that allows me brain-storm chord progressions and song ideas. This is that app--it simply works!!!.Version: 2.0

I would give it six stars if I couldI love this app. I am a musician and it gives me a portable way to quickly audition chord progressions and substitutions in a detailed but mostly intuitive UI. It pushed me to try more exotic chords that would otherwise be too complex for me with a paint or guitar. For non-musicians, I can see this as a great app to feel their way through some music without having to know how to work it out on a piano. It’s also a quick way to lay down a simple backing track to play an instrument on top of..Version: 3.0.5

Great and easy to useThis is a fantastic app if you are looking to practice soloing over chord changes. You just program the chords in whatever configuration you'd like and start playing... It's that simple. For jazz players, this is superb. It not only lets you use seventh chords in any key, but also provides extensions, all the inversions, and even some altered chords to challenge your playing. Moreover, you can choose from dozens of styles, from Latin to electronica... Just a great, useful tool..Version: 2.11

Best app I've ever purchasedThis app is an amazing tool for creativity. As a musician I have dropped a decent amount of money on related apps but this has been my number 1 Pros: 1. Versatile: the chord selection is awesome (major, minor, 7th, aug, sus, dim, +many more) 2. You can export files 3. Random chord generator for those moments of "writers block" Cons: 1. Needs an "undo" button" (very easy to accidentally edit all sections of your song when you meant to only edit 1) 2. Guitar sounds are a bit weak, I never use them, but there are plenty of other sounds o work with so no biggie. Despite those I still rate this app 5 stars, this has been a big tool for inspiration. Tip: save often! Save often! Save often! And wouldn't hurt to save 2 files of the same song..Version: 2.15

Excellent! This is an excellent and highly useful app for song creation. Thank you the audio copy/paste, that's extremely useful. A couple of suggestions: 1. If its possible, it would be great to set a play pattern (dramatica, hammered, reef, etc) for each chord, so you could create a track with multiple styles; 2. Being able to select an octave for a chord would also be great, although your built in octave selection algorithm does a fairly intuitive job of that. Still, having that control would be great; 3. add the ability to create multiple sets of chord progressions per song, then have the ability to arrange and trigger those groups in whatever order you want. See Xenon for an example of a very good pattern editor and sequencer, as well as iSequence. But that's a big "next step". Great job, thanks!.Version: 1.1

Really Good...This is a really fast way to prototype a progression and hear it with a complete 'band', rather than a bunch of bleeps and bloops. It has an awesome "Export MIDI To.." function which lists all the apps on you pad that can import MIDI. In may case the output went straight to Cubasis …. each instrument on its own track…. then I could reassign sounds, edit the MIDI, add effects and do a fader based mix. WOW! I kind of assumed I would be able to drag/rearrange to chord blocks … but the dev has a feature request link on the web site. Also good. Get it..Version: 2.0.5

One of the most useful music appsThis app is a songwriters dream. If you are interested in a tool that will allow you to easily map out the structure of a song in an easy and comprehensive manner, this is the app to do it. The sounds are more than good enough for their purpose and the selection of chords and inversions seems to cover every possible variation. If you are a songwriter and don't have this app you are missing out. This app is awesome!!!.Version: 2.0

Best, easiest, and fastest way to make backing tracksI needed an easy way to make modal backing tracks in all keys because it would have taken forever to make them myself. This app has many options and sounds good. You also have the ability to have a bass note of your choosing under the chord which is essential when creating modal jam tracks. I'm very please to have found this app..Version: 2.15

FantabulousI love this -- have been waiting for this for years. I just got it today and have already written and saved 3 songs. It is very intuitive. This is just what I need for practice, and composition. If you can get sections to play on command like ableton live (waiting for the previous section to finish) in the section view, this would become the default application for performance..Version: 2.0

Great Song StartI’ve been using this app to create chord progressions for my latest songs and it’s incredible. It makes the process so much easier. It includes all the instruments and rhythms you need to help bring your ideas to life very quickly. Just think it up, lay it out in Chordbot and then export to your DAW (as an audio or midi file) to start creating your song..Version: 3.1.2

The secret App you can't compose withoutFew apps keep my attention - let alone deliver on their promise. This will be my first review. In fact, I usually don't bother to rate Apps as I delete them. But - ChordBot deserves the recognition! Now, you can easily compose custom progressions, jot down ideas or just browse the rich content for an accompaniment to match your message and mood. Need inspiration? Don't wait. Install now..Version: 1.1

Needs some more harmonic systems to work with. Some augments chords and some minMaj7 chords, just for examples, should really be included to make use of harmonic minor and melodic minor systems. Also, no b9s or b13s, etc.? I get that they are trying to keep it clean, but there are ways to keep it simple while still allowing important harmonies in contemporary harmony (and classical, for that matter). I have a feeling people that want to use this are trying to expand their palette, rather than practice the same old same old..Version: 3.0.5

Great app, Great SupportThe app works very well and I really like it. I was having a problem and emailed the developer, within a few hours I had an answer from them, and it was really just as simple as clearing up some space on my iPad. (Admittedly, I should have thought of this myself). So if your play button is non functional, just erase some unused stuff from your device..Version: 2.0.5

Best so farNow this is an app that is worth the purchase...as a contemporary synth player...I am constantly writing soundscapes for new tunes...this is a great app for sketching ideas...I particularly like the ability to use slash chords...all the critiques for improvement I agree with...even without those improvements I am definitely getting my money's worth as a working pro musician...buy it!.Version: 1.25

Arrangement BlissDude, you can Angel two acoustic guitars on separate tracks and mix all these picking patterns...then you got so many interval and inversion choices that it sounds better than what a straight 12 string would do...ingenious! You may even use these instruments in your production. Trust me, if you're a song writer and don't have this app, it's the next one to blow you away!.Version: 2.15

Issues with iPad Pro 12" until restart, otherwise fantastic! The screen is not resizing properly (too zoomed in) when first installing on an iPad Pro and there is no access to anything, so I restarted the iPad Pro 12" and it's working. I love the new updated interface and the program is really brilliant for the money. Highly recommended..Version: 3.0.4

Great app! This is really a wonderful app. It's easy to use but the results are incredible! I use it to set up chords to songs and send them to friends so they know how the song goes. I also use it to practice leads and licks. The Song-O-Matic option is great for coming up with interesting chord progressions and for practicing. The export feature is icing on the cake. The app works flawlessly..Version: 1.25

Best songwriting tool ever!Seriously, this is awesome. The only thing that would make it better, and this doesn’t subtract any stars, is if there was a keyboard representation of the notes in the chords so you could more easily visualize how the non-root notes of the chords are progressing. Of course you can transfer it to a DAW for this, but it would be nice for the writing process..Version: 3.0.5

It's About Time! Now Six Stars!I've been waiting for an IPad version... it's finally here and it's unbeatable. It was worth the wait. It does a great job and is fairly intuitive as well. Update One day later... the more I use it, the more I like it. In some ways it's better than Band-In-A-Box, which has been around for decades. Best music app anywhere? Maybe..Version: 2.0

Excellent Compositional Aid! WOW!I am so happy I bought this app. The sounds and arpeggios are great, not to mention the wealth of chord types. Only thing that could make this better would be to search for chord substitutions by melody notes or the ability to specify chords that share a common note. Still, though, this gets a 5/5 easy! Buy it!.Version: 2.15

Great useful app, but bugsIt’s a great app, useful for quick putting together a song, for practicing or jamming. But an annoying bug in latest IOS (pretty sure this worked in the past): I can no longer Rename a project, which means every new project that I create overwrites the previous one that was created with the same default name. Can this please be fixed?.Version: 3.1.2

Great songwriting toolThis app is relatively easy to flesh out a song and/or try out different chord progressions. IMO, there has been a lot of thought put into this app. It has a good design and clean interface, and MIDI and WAV export via File Sharing. Yes! Future versions can only expand on what is an already great start..Version: 0

Wonderful updateThank you for the thoughtful update. This app was serviceable at first, but now it is irreplaceable. The new features and workflow are very practical. I use this as a quick and dirty way to brainstorm a song before trying it live in GarageBand. I also use it to practice scales and melodic ideas over harmonies..Version: 2.0

Needs playback fix!Just started the app and made a simple progression with a verse, chorus, and chorus 2. Playback glitches and will start in the wrong section (I want to start on the 3rd but it begins 1/2 way through the 2nd every time). I read the manual and it seems to be a glitch, not a user error. What gives? Also needs an easy way to move sections around in a song (change their order).Version: 1.25

Nice!Cool app, has some nice presets, although it would be nice to have some more flexibility in terms of styles, it would be nice if I could make my own..Version: 1.1

Excellent!I’ve been using Chordbot for years. It is user friendly and is the simplest way to create backing tracks. There are a good amount of styles to choose from. I appreciate the way you get to choose chords; how they’re highlighted according to suitability. This has easily been my best app purchase. Would love it if you would implement dark mode..Version: 3.1.10

AmazingI had to leqve a review for this app. It is so simple to use. You can build beautiful and complex melody in an instant. I use it with Cubasis 3 and I’m having a solid blast!!!.Version: 3.1.9

WonderfulWonderful, wonderful, wonderful. Great styles. Simpler to use than irealb (which is still great). Love the polished refinement that when into the styles and samples. Bravo!.Version: 1.1

ExcellentFacile à utiliser. Des tonnes de possibilités. Suggestion de progression très utile..Version: 3.0.5

Looked at them all : this is the best !Easy to use with no manual dexterity required, but gives you tons of control over your composition. The underlying architecture of this app is so perfect, I could see a Chordbot Pro being quite successful : simply a version offering more complex and subtle accompaniment patterns in more rhythms and meters....Version: 3.0.5

Chordbot C7There is simply no easier way to discover beautiful chord progressions. Has been my favourite app for years and now it's even better. Thanks again for creating this app!.Version: 3.0.4

Love this AppJust bought it. Works great and I have been working on my first song with I. Great App Updated Interface is awesome..Version: 3.0.3

Great AppI've been looking for an app to create music to play along with my violin. Finally I found this app and it works great, it's easy to use and the instrument sounds are good quality. The more I use it the more I like it. Keep up the good work with the development on this app, looking forward to new features..Version: 2.15

Wow!The best app out there!!!.Version: 2.0.5

Fantastic !This is the best songwriting aid I have ever found. This can also be used as a musical theory learning device if you only have a basic understanding of major and minor chords. Thank you Lars for a great app!.Version: 2.0.5

Very Nice AppWorks Very fast on my ipad 1,.Version: 2.0

Incroyable le meilleur outil de composition point final.Pour un auteur compositeur..Version: 1.25

Very goodI love it. Very handy app to find exact colors of chords when composing. *Thanks for the update ;o).Version: 1.25

Great product with huge potential.I downloaded Chordbot last night and in a matter of 15 minutes had a song laid out ready to sing/play along. Simplest app I've had the privilege of using. Very intuitive interface. Good job guys! I'm hoping to see a few additional feature down the road, like annotation (intro, verse, chorus), ability to copy/paste based on those song segments and ability to import comping styles or simply more comping styles added. Good job again on a great app. Great for jamming, improv and even live performance..Version: 1.1
