Grade: C+The idea is a good one, but there are two basic problems: 1. The data the map is based on looks like about 7-8 years old. It needs to be current as of like say… last 30 days. 2. The data is not detailed enough to be useful in say, if you life in a metro country, where are the micro areas that have darker skye due to geographic shadows, or less commercial/street lighting, so that you don't have to drive hundreds of miles just to find reasonably darker skys… Somewhere in the US government, someone is actually tracking all this on a night by night basis down the 1/10 acre pixel world wide. The US Dept of Ag. and US Dept of Commerce, USGS, EPA, not to mention CIA,DHS, FBI, DOD, etc… I am sure that data set is available if the right request is made… If not, I have connections that can make that happen, but like everything dealing the the Gov., if you don't ask, you don't get....DremWkrVersion: 1.1

Very cool app but needs some bug fixesI am very pleased that I can use this map on an iOS device since it's difficult to control on any other websites that offer this. My problem is that the app will crash about 40%-50% of the time when I try to tap on the info button when a location is selected (I'm using an iPhone 5S running iOS 8.0.2). Another major issue for me is that I don't like how I have to either choose between turning location services on all the time even when app is not running or just turn it off all together (then have to manually turn it on in settings if I want to use it). It would just be nice if I could do like other apps do and just have it running when I open the app. Other than that everything is great. It would also be nice (but not necessary) to allow you to copy the address or gps location so you can copy/paste it into another Maps application like Google Maps or whatever. From personal experience, I try to stay away from Apple Maps solely when I'm driving in unknown rural areas because it has taken me on some strange dirt backroads in the past that it shouldn't have. If you fix the crashing and location services issues then I will surely increase my rating to 5 stars!.IwasatACLVersion: 2.0

Great Idea; Needs ContentThis app will become more useful as more sites are added. For most users, it will not be a "dark sky finder," but an "away-from-bright-streetlights" finder, which is still a valuable service. Currently, there are only a few sites listed within a hundred miles of me. Questionable whether a sole developer can moderate entries forever, to make the app stick among astronomers. Incredible Astronomy AppFinally a smooth, easy-to-use app that allows me to locate great places to take out my telescope! It's hard to find places devoid of light pollution, and it's sure annoying to drive all the way out to a place I've just "heard about" only to realize when I get there that there are lights everywhere. This app allows you to see for yourself, via satellite, where the darkest skies are located. You can read/write your own reviews about sites. Great app but freezesThis is a great app, everything one could ask for if they are looking for dark skies near them. However, it freezes a lot and takes a long time to load some screens, and honestly great idea of clicking on the directions link to open up the location in the maps app, doesn't work. It just sits there. So I need to note the site name, google it to get the address, then type that into maps. Kind of a pain that could be avoided if the link worked. Find great places to observe the night skyVery well designed and easy to use. Tons of observation sites located all over the place, which is really helpful for finding dark places to watch a meteor shower with friends or go take my telescope. Seems like new locations are added daily, although some could use more detail (like is there camping available?) although many have this type of info.
