Everything was great until this happened ⚠️

I’ve enjoyed renting cars with Turo and maintained my 5 star Guest rating until today when I received an outstanding invoice of $615🤯. Here is what happened… Three months ago I rented a car and paid for 30 days and got monthly discount applied… Returned the car (5 days earlier which was confirmed over the phone with Turo rep to make sure there is no extra charges) and that rental order was closed no problem. Fast forward two months, today receiving that $615 invoice, calling support, they are saying that your discount was automatically changed from monthly to 3-week discount and that is the reason for that invoice… I’m asking to fix it, but after being kept on the phone holding on and off for almost two hours, I’m told there is nothing they can fix, even though I explained that at the time of dropping the car earlier I had a confirmation over the phone with Turo customer service that there will be no extra charges. Now I need to escalate my issue to the management because it doesn’t seem like Turo customer service can figure it out. You can do better Turo! Update: the rep just promised to review all previous communications including calls and send me an update within one hour… So I hope they figure out the issue and cancel that invoice altogether, because you can not be changing terms of the deal two months later, charging people $615, it’s just wrong 😤

Refused full refund, with partial refund to travel credit that I cannot use.

I am blown away at the fraudulent practices I have witnessed on this app. I am in need of a rental after my car and it’s contents were stolen. I reserved a car with a total cost of over $280. The car was for commuting to and from work. I didn’t really have the $ to spend but have to work and Turo was more economical than two uber rides each day. Since my car was stolen, my license has passed its expiration date, so I took a day off work; and since Alabama has a 60 day grace period in which my license is still valid, I was using the first day of my rental to go renew my valid license. As I was leaving to pick up my rental, I get a notification that due to issues with expired license and photos that Turo was canceling my rental and only refunding $150 of the $280 rental that THEY wouldn’t allow me to check in to. There policy CLEARLY STATES that if they cancel the trip a full refund will be issued immediately. Even with screenshots of the notification, their own policy, and information from Alabama’s DMV website they said their partial refund was final. And the real kicker is that refund was issued as travel credit that I can neither access as cash or redeem for a rental, so in reality they have refunded NOTHING, leaving me with absolutely no transportation to work. BEWARE, the policy that is written to make you comfortable using the app is NOT the policy they follow in reality.

My first trip

This was my first trip with Turo. The pick up was as easy as I was told it was the keys were placed on one of the tires. I took pictures and besides low windshield wiper fluid and tire pressure and a little bit of cleanliness it was on all an amazing trip. Unfortunately, we got caught in a snowstorm and was forced to wait the storm out which led to me, dropping it off later than anticipated. I tried multiple times to contact the owner with no response. I did see he had a trip booked, but it wasn’t going to be until the next day so I figured the best thing I could do was make sure the car was completely filled with gas. The windshield wipers fluid fluid was filled with the tire pressure was filled, and I cleaned the car as if I was going to be the one driving it. I seen the owner on my way out. I placed the key exactly where he placed it for me. He checked it out and then I left all in all. It was very easy. Check in very easy checkout very convenient of the communication could be better, but everything else was great so far I definitely at this moment recommend this to my friends and family and thus far unless anything changes, I am very impressed and I will book again in the future. Thank you for allowing me to have an experience with my family that I haven’t seen in five years. It allowed for memories that will last a lifetime. Thank you, Toro and thank you to the owner.

Be careful, the insurance or their warranty are all false.

My car was rented to a renter that was arranged by Turo for a trip from end of November 2018 to December 2018. This renter received to parking tickets in New York City, one for double parking and another for parking next to a fire hydrant. I had no idea this guests received these citations. The car was returned safely to me, four months later another renter from Turo took the car to New York City this month, August 2019, and the city placed a boot on the car. The new renter frantically called me afraid with what happened, if my car was being repo-d or something. I asked if there is a number I should call. I called the New York City boot Release and I learned that the tickets were given in December 2018 when it was rented thru Turo. Now I called Turo to see if they can issue a reimbursement of tickets that was received to the prior renter. They said we’ll look into this and they responded by saying we will not issue a refund, bc reimbursement timeframe has passed. It is only 90 days from end of trip. I’m out a total of 644 dollars!!!!!!!! The trip only earned me 345 not including depreciation and mileage time lost. In all their service is outsourced and there is no true service. Clearly, those aren’t my tickets, however, the chose to not pay for the tickets that their renter had received. So all in all. You are still responsible for your own car even though they charge 30% for commission. The company is a joke. Move on, don’t get desperate.

Incredible Service

I don’t normally write these, so you know it’s either super good or super bad. In this case I was blown away with how responsive and fair minded Turo is. I rented a Tesla and paid about $1000 ahead of time. About a month before my trip, the car was unavailable due to mechanical problems or something, I’m not really sure I just got a notification that I had been refunded and my trip was canceled. I was very worried, I thought I wouldn’t be able to rent another Tesla of the same year and model (I’ve never driven one and was super stoked for this!). Luckily, it was super easy to find a help button and choose the option to speak with a customer service rep. I pressed 2 on the call to speak with someone and within 1 minute I was explaining my situation to a real human (something very important to me). Within 10 minutes I not only received confirmation of my full refund, I had also received an additional $500 of in-app credit to use towards my next rental. I was able to rent an even nicer Tesla I wouldn’t have been able to previously!!! Let’s goooo. Outstanding customer service, I highly recommend this app to anyone looking to rent a car. Much better rates than the big companies, more flexibility, AND nicer cars. And obviously from the rest of my review you can gather that they have incredible customer service that responds very quickly!

Turo is dope

Found myself in Honolulu paying a hefty price renting a Jeep from one of the airport counter rental companies. Was told about Turo by some random dude on the elevator and looked it up. Ended up taking the Jeep back the next day and getting a Honda Pilot through Turo. It was not brand new, but it was clean and ran excellent. The total cost for a 3 day rental in the Honda through Turo was within about 10 dollars of what we were paying for the Jeep PER DAY. Huge savings for us. App was easy to use and the guy we rented from had done this a lot and was easy to work with. A few things that will help if you decide to use Turo: they are not based out of the airport. So plan accordingly and call an Uber or cab to get you from the airport to the pick up site. Also, you won’t be able to simply drive it up to the curb at the airport at the end of your trip and hand the keys off to the person at the counter. There is a check out process to make sure the car is in basically the same condition when it comes back as when it left. The individual owner will need to meet up with you and receive the keys, so plan accordingly for that also. Most of these people have full time jobs doing something else and responsibilities elsewhere and may not be able to meet up with you any ol time, so try and be conscientious of that. When we come to Honolulu again, or any trip to a major city, the first thing we book will be the car through Turo, and then we will plan the flight schedules around that. Overall, a very positive experience and lots of savings for us. Thanks Turo

Fantastic Car Rental Experience with Turo!

Review: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ As someone who travels frequently and appreciates convenience and flexibility, Turo has been a game-changer for me. The app interface is incredibly user-friendly, allowing me to browse and select from a wide range of vehicles easily. Whether I need a compact car for a quick city trip or a spacious SUV for a family vacation, Turo always has plenty of options available. What sets Turo apart from traditional car rental services is the personalized touch it offers. Communicating directly with the car owners through the app gives me peace of mind, and I've found them to be responsive and accommodating. Plus, the ability to choose the exact car I want, rather than settling for whatever is available at the rental counter, is a huge plus. The booking process is seamless, and I appreciate the transparent pricing and fee structure. There are no hidden surprises, and I always know exactly what to expect. The added insurance options provide an extra layer of security, which I find reassuring. Overall, Turo has exceeded my expectations in every way. It's revolutionized the way I approach car rentals, and I can't imagine going back to the traditional rental companies. If you're looking for a convenient, affordable, and hassle-free car rental experience, I highly recommend giving Turo a try!

First timers

We are new to the Turo community and at first we were skeptical about renting or car to complete strangers. However after doing more research and becoming more knowledgeable about how Turo vets all renters driving backgrounds, and authenticity; gave us peace and mind about who will be responsible for our car. Being informed about their different coverage options to best fit our needs also a huge plus. The app is very easy to navigate through and with step-by-step instructions, makes it easy check in and out of each trip. We’ve only had two trips booked with our car and at the rate we’re going, i know it’ll definitely be worth the while. Why not make money off your car if you don’t need it at the moment. Before apps like lyft, Uber and now TURO came out; the number one depreciating asset was a car. But now its an investment with being able to create income to pay for your car and make profits compared to constantly putting money into it. This rating is 100% real and honest, im not being paid or influenced by incentives; apps like this are created to help create a business and earn income from nothing into something and because of that, I want to make sure this review helps other people like me who want/need the extra income to support their family.

Fraud smoke charges

Our 10 year anniversary trip to Miami was good until the end. The Camero we rented looked like it was in a crash derby. I was absolutely 100% set up by my host Shivek! He made fraud pictures. Turo charged me 150$ for smoking cigarettes and marijuana when I cannot even smoke. I carry a CDL and drive a daily route, we drug test regularly. He literally put cigarette tobacco in the cup holder and ashes on the floor, and took pictures and said the car smelt like marijuana. I feel setup because he knew I was pressed to make my flight and he could not meet me to check in the car. Also I was suspicious off the start because he told me I don't have to take any pictures when I first picked up the car because he already handled it. I told him that my app required that I do take pictures. He got a attitude with me but at the time I thought no Big deal, because I read his reviews and they seemed decent. I was wrong there. We are guilty of the sand from the beach but absolutely did not smoke at all. We've used turo for many years. Never had any issues at all. My wife and I and also my company. Turo "investigated" the incident and said his smoking charges are valid. This is ridiculous and I will never use Turo or recommend it again. Not every host is like this but Shivek was horrible. Thanks, One Unhappy Customer

Turo mean less hassle!!

I have used Turo a few times now for family trips and when traveling with kids, ease of travel accommodations is essential. The entire process with Turo is user friendly from the beginning. The search, and selecting a car is step 1 and the details regarding specifics of each vehicle is user friendly. Fees and cost are up front and available to see, not hundreds of fees added at checkout. Prior to the trip a few minor steps to upload drivers license, etc is quick and can be done in a matter of minutes from your phone. Obtaining the car varies depending on location and host. I have been picked up and baggage claim or walked to shuttle and dropped at car. Both were seamless and zero hassle. Way less waiting and hassle than any car rental company I have ever dealt with. Beginning the trip requires documenting a few photos, again phone friendly steps and drive away! The return is as easy as returning to the prior spot and handing off the keys, and again a few pics. I typically pay for the cleaning service $20-25, I know I don’t want to wash and vacuum the car so much easier. That doesn’t mean leave trash!! Be respectful. Throw away your trash. Also, prior to each of these steps the host will send you written and often video instructions so nothing is confusing.

Okay Service

I’ve been meaning to write my review about Turo for a while now but I seemed to have forgotten about it. Turo is definitely a good choice to you ONLY if you plan on using the vehicle throughout the designated state that you are in and not for vacation rentals. The hosts / Turo itself might be okay with it when receiving your initial payment but if anything happens to the car outside of your care then you will be held liable. I had a bad battery issue with one of my rentals and because of that I had to get my vehicle towed back to the dealer however, Turo never gave me a replacement vehicle due to it being out of state. They were very unaccomadating and lied to me about a replacement vehicle and I ended up disputing with the bank. So again, only use Turo if you are within the state and have your own AAA car insurance because they will dispatch locals to help with car issues instead of actual car services. And if you are able, always have a paper trail & do not rely on the agents to tell the truth; unless you record them. They will lie most of the time & to save time, energy, & money dispute charges with a bank if they don’t provide you with their services. But again, book through Avis / any other car rental company if you need to rent a car for vacations. They are not worth the headache.

Best way to rent cars!

For renters: I love turo. It's a great way to rent cars but It doesn't go without flaws. Remember, you ARE renting someone's personal car, Not from a business. I have seen owners try to rip people off by saying they caused damage when the renter didn't. Turo has a way of avoiding this in the app by taking pictures before your trip starts. Make sure to take pictures of any damage you see to the car even the tread depth as the owners can see if you are doing burnouts in the car. For owners: Turo is a great way to make some passive income if you work at home or have a secondary vehicle, it is the perfect way to turn a liability into a asset. Now to end the review, the only reason I give turo a 4 out of 5 review is for the young driver fee. I understand most if not all rental companies have a young driver fee but the prices on turo are a little ridiculous. If you are younger than 26 years old you will have a young driver fee. The more day you rent the car the higher the fee is. I am 22 and I needed a car because my job requires me to travel. I needed a car for 2 days & I found a decent car on turo. After check out it would've saved me alot of money to just rent the car in 2 separate check outs then to just say I needed the car for 2 days. My young driver fee was 75$ per day if I chose to keep it for 2 days, while if I only had it for one day my fee would had been 35$ for the day. So I'm not sure how turo calculates the fee for young drivers but if you are renting for more than a day the fee becomes ridiculous

My 1st bad experience with Turo.

Good morning! My name is Brandon and I recently rented a Jeep Compass through Turo. I’ve used Turo previously and have never had any issues until this latest rental. Upon getting the car, I was met by the owner’s next door neighbor because the owner was out of town on business. Before he handed me the keys, he notified me that the tire sensors on the front tires were inoperable. The owner never said anything to me about this. Strike one! After driving it for about a day or so, I noticed that the brakes were seriously overdue to be changed. The whole vehicle shook when I had to slow down or come to a complete stop. Strike two. On top of all of this, the rear tires kept losing tire pressure. I’m assuming that there’s a nail in the driver’s side rear tire because we had to put air in it on 5 different occasions. Strike three. I was under the assumption that vehicles rented through Turo had to go through an inspection before being rented. The owner of the Jeep Compass seems to be a nice guy, but is slacking on the upkeep of his automobile. Every time that I encountered a problem, I alerted him of the situation through the Turo app. He told me that he made an appointment to get it looked at and I hope that he is able to get everything taken care of before anyone else can rent it due to safety concerns. Thank you!

Never had a problem with Turo before now, and it was mostly because of the host

Honestly I had no issues with their service, but I had a host give me a vehicle that wasn’t up to par. The gas wasn’t full and didn’t have windshield wiper fluid car wasn’t clean and the tires didn’t have air air. I complain for them to get it all fixed, but with the tires ended up getting a flat but instead of this issue being on them, which I was told by the host that they understood that they didn’t take care of the car and the problem would be on them, but then they filed a damage claim because of a flat tire And to back them up instead of me when it was clear that they were wrong the house even allow me to switch to another vehicle because of this issue happening with the tires, not having an air in it and giving me a flat no problems at all, but all of a sudden I’ve seen a fee on my account saying I owe when that was never discussed in Turo continuously tried to charge my car an amount saying I owed when I never did oh and they decide to to have the house back instead of mine when it was cleared that the host gave me a junkie car and I feel like they tried to cheat me out of my money and the fee wasn’t even worth the damages. It was like three times as much.

Love Turo. Renting hit or miss

I have rented from Turo. Just recently I booked a cargo van to bring my daughter back from college in. I book a month ahead. Two days before the guy cancelled it. MAF Intetprises. Not Interprises. Kind of like the Minnesota Learing Center. No reason and shortly after I sent him my drivers license. I feel this person is drivers license farming. No messages and would not reply back. He had the cargo van listed still. This behavior worries me. Maybe the guy is just using Turo to get our drivers license info. I called Turo customer service about him. They confirmed he cancels a lot. Hello! Red Flag! She patronized me until the call ended. She said she would escalate but no reference case number or email was sent. Thank God renters like Rabiou are on Turo which is an honest man. . With two days left he helped me out and I was able to pick up my daughter. I believe people that cancel without reason should be investigated. By the way, the reason MAF Inteprises (No r) canceled per Turo was a family emergency. Hmmm. Then why did he immediately repost the vehicle. Crickets when I brought that up to Turo. Also, when they cancel you can't leave a review for them. Please to all that read this, be very careful and look out for this type of "Host". This is for Turo: You need to protect your customers better and get an algorithm or filter for these Hosts that cancel all the time.

An alternative one should strongly consider

With the depleted rental fleets due to a year of very slow travel and rental companies cutting inventories, the act of renting even an Altima has become an expensive effort. On a recent trip to Texas, I looked over the usual suspects and noticed -even with my emerald membership with a rental company- prices were very high. So, I looked for an alternative and found Turo. I rented a Porsche for only a few dollars more than a mid-sized sedan. So, you know, get the Porsche. Now, what you have to remember is you’re paying for the use of someone else’s car. I picked up the Porsche and was very happy with it. It was a 2015 and 70k miles, clearly well maintained, but it had 6 years of wear (paint chips, slightly milky lens covers, a broken sun visor clip, scuffs from shoes on the interior, etc.). Still, it’s a Porsche for a little more than the price of an Altima. Was it rental car clean? I mean, there were some small crumbs in the passenger seat (no big deal -Porsche-), a dusty dash (no big deal), and a paper cup from a coffee chain rolled out from under the passenger seat when I braked at a stoplight (no big deal, you’re borrowing someone’s freaking Porsche for the price of an Altima). So, if you travel and want to drive something cool for the current price of a slushbox cookie cutter, use Turo. If you’re thinking about buying a used performance car but want to live with one for a few days to see what a used 4 series BMW or whatever is like, use Turo. This will be my go-to from now on. I’m already planning my next trip and I’m going to use Turo.

Total Breeze

I have tinkered with the app for a few months looking at various cars in my area just seeing what’s out there. Finally took a trip and figured I would give Turo a spin figuring if it went horribly wrong I’d be at a major airport with a half a dozen rental agencies as back up. Not only did I not need any of them, but when all was said and done and I returned the car I made the decision to use Turo whenever possible from now on. Additionally as easy and painless as the whole experience was I would feel highly confident recommending this application to anyone with a smart phone, even my dear old mother. No more reserving a car at some rental agency, then standing in line, then getting fear mongered into buying extra insurance for a smaller car then I reserved because they don’t have my rental type available and I don’t wish to pay 35$ per day more for a slightly larger car. With Turo, just scroll through and click on what car you want and that’s exactly what you will get. If picking the exact car and color you want isn’t enough, with most of the vehicles I’ve looked at you can purchase extras like unlimited mileage, worry free cleaning, worry free fuel option, and various insurance options if your personal insurance isn’t enough. Pick up and drop off is a breeze and most owners offer flexible pick up and drop off arrangements allowing you to literally walk up, show your license, snap a few photos of the car, ask any questions you might have and that’s that. No paperwork, no hassle, and no lines. I guarantee that if your Turo experience goes anything like mine and you’re into writing reviews then I’m sure your review will be as glowing as mine. Well done to whomever created Turo.

First time Turo user…will never use regular car rental companies again.

Family trip to Reno/Yosemite/Lake Tahoe. Regular rental agencies were charging ridiculous rates and after the “add ons” that were necessary, along with all of their fees, multiple taxes, and other goofy costs, well, we couldn’t believe the price, and we weren’t even getting a premium automobile. As a matter of fact, we wouldn’t even know what we were going to get until we checked in. So, enough of that nonsense. Oh, and don’t forget about the wait in line to get your rental (usually an hour due to agencies trying to save money by skimping customer service). We took a chance on Turo. Best decision of our entire vacation. Seriously. First off, we were able to see the actual car that we would be renting. Second, we were able to speak with the owner of the car directly. So many questions, as this was our first experience, and the owner took great care of us. So, the exact car we wanted. Plenty of miles to more than cover our trip. We even purchased the insurance from Turo so that we had zero concerns about the rental. Ready for this? We literally saved $900. Half of what the normal agencies were going to charge us, and with none of the hassles. I have two words of advice if you’re reading this: 1) use Turo from now on for all of your car rental needs (make sure that you read the reviews on owners and pay attention to how many times they have rented out their vehicles, as Turo has those tools available to assist consumers with choosing great owners), and 2) if you own stock in ANY regular rental car agency, sell it now, because as soon as Turo becomes main stream, the regular agencies will all be put out of business. Thank yo Turo, and thank you Adam (owner in Reno)!!!

Request an explanation

Some body help me out here in case I misunderstood something. Im a fair person and try hard to write true and factual reviews according to my experiences. Im all for supporting the locally owned businesses and prefer doing business with them. So In searching for a van rental for an upcoming trip I responded to a Turo add advising me to compare the lower prices and availability on car rentals through Turo. So after getting the prices from the major auto rental company’s I down loaded the app and started my search. My shock and confusion is all the higher prices and for much older vehicles the Turo results came back to me in respect to the rental companies. I don’t get it? Why should I pay more for an older van than the cheaper prices offered by the auto rental company’s for 2023 and newer? This is not to include all the hassle Turo requires preparing a user account with selfies holding your DL and such which I wouldn’t mind complying to ….but where’s the deal? From the results I got it sure isn’t in the price and product. I gotta be missing something here. So please some body needs to help show me whats the big benefit here using Turo before I rewrite and explain this more clearly for everyone’s benefit in a 1 star review and over social media. In the mean time I guess I’ll rent from one of the rental companies.

What is not to love?

I absolutely love Turo, so much that this review won’t do it justice. Not only is this a genius idea for a host, but it’s unbelievably convenient for a guest! We were over paying for subpar rental vehicles through Expedia and car rental companies for years until we found an unexpected need to search elsewhere. We thought we would be stranded without a car because we waited too long to book a vehicle, but Turo came to our rescue with a better deal than we could have asked for. I must admit I was skeptical during our first use, afraid of an unknown first experience. But that all changed after our first trip using Turo and we will never go back to the way we were renting previously! We had 24/7 communication with our host, pick up and drop off were so easy and convenient, and we didn’t wait in any lines after we picked up our luggage! We went straight to the airport parking lot and drove off in our beautiful, affordable rental- we felt like locals! If you are new to this app and considering using it, please do yourself a favor and go for it. You will not be disappointed- I have recommended using Turo to all of my friends and family already and encourage you to do so as well!

They cool when they wanna be

I’ve had some great experiences on Turo but these last 2 times are what’s going to make me not rent from them in a while . First my car in the shop so I used this car and the car tire bust soon as I pulled out the parking lot. I got the tow through MY tow service and put a new tire on there with my money. They had the nerve to charge me a toll fee and I’m like he could’ve just let it slide because I paid money to put a tire on HIS car so I learned to never rent a car without a spare in there and this coming time was my birthday and I admit I didn’t fill the tank up all the way and had no problem paying it but my problem was that the agent I talked to said I will have to initiate the charge but no they took it out anyway without my permission and I told them I was paying it when I got paid but they JUST had to have their money and customer support no help because they didn’t even reprimand the agent who told me and was so quick to send an Invoice and send over dispute charge in favor of the host that when you respond back to the email they go ghost. So just remember when you rent from these guys that they will ALWAYS favor the host and the customer rarely wins with them

Headache

Customer service is the worst, issues never get resolved you get sent directly to a chat service even when you call the toll free number. The agents all have the same set responses and will tell you best they can do is pass you on to another department. Turo reps will apologize, Thank you for being apart of their “community” and that’s it.

Turo — Better Car Rental Negative Reviews and Ratings

Bad updates ruin great apps!

Starting March 26th this app is requiring every host to automatically accept EVERY request. This app is NOT my primary job and I only have one vehicle on here. I might have to stop listing it since I can’t make this side income a primary one. I have mentioned great updates in the past that could fix this issue. I have been ignored. I already drive this vehicle over 100 miles on my days off (ONE WAY) to make a little extra money to help make the payments. I mentioned giving a minimum and maximum miles from my “home” delivery location. I have also mentioned limiting the drive time to drop off this unit. Ex: I get lots of requests from Columbus, Ohio. This drive time is a couple minutes short of THREE HOURS away from me one way (6 hours to drop off and another 6 hours to pick up). I live 1 hour from Charleston, WV and only have two drop off locations to choose from. Parkersburg, WV is also an hour away and they have no drop off locations, so anyone renting there would have to pay the same $120 delivery fee. Having an address or pinpointing it on a map would be a couple of great alternatives. Having a maximum delivery distance and delivery time would also be great! Neither of these features have come to fruition. TURO! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! This isn’t making this easier on me or many others trying to use this app that used to be pretty good. I also think their fees are much higher than they should be. A flat fee with awesome coverage would help out.

Need to work out their customer service.

I’ve used Turo a number of times in California and Florida. It’s a great alternative to rentals in Florida where the companies want to charge a 300% surcharge for Sunpass and California where rentals are easy targets for break ins. This last trip, however, the car I rented had a maintenance issue and the host wasn’t able to resolve or switch the car. When I went back to Turo to get a replacement their call center was disorganized, I wasn’t able to speak to a supervisor, and they clearly don’t have a plan (or if they do the reps at the call center haven’t been trained) for how to handle car replacements when the original rental breaks down. I had to advocate to get an equal value replacement without being charged the difference and for a Lyft credit to pick ip the replacement. They’d clearly not talked to the host or explained that the rental was a replacement and I had to take a Lyft at 11:30 at night while traveling solo as a woman in a city I’m not familiar with. While I didn’t end up paying any additional fees, I spent no less than 3 hours navigating two different customer service reps, who as sweet and understanding as they were, clearly were not prepared to resolve what I would assume is a basic liability of this kind of business. I’ll use them again, but only with newer cars (the car we’d rented was 9 years old - 3 years newer than my own vehicle) and hosts with a larger fleet of vehicles.

Horrible customer service

I never write poor reviews, I think it’s unfair to judge an app so harshly over something that can be talked about with customer service. That being said, I went through Turo’s customer service THREE times before I had to move onto another app. While Turo has some great features, it’s customer service line member did nothing to help. I provided all of my valid information and was not yet approved to rent a car for some reason. I talked to customer service and was told I would get an email in about an hour resolving the issue but it might be a little longer. I totally understand things needing to take longer, it’s a delicate process. However two hours later and I was getting anxious because I needed a car that day. I messaged agin asking for an update. All I was told was that they will “expedite further”. I messaged back after thirty minutes to a third member and asked if I could get a status check and how much longer it would be. She told me another HOUR. Right now it’s been FIVE HOURS since my first time reaching out and I still haven’t heard anything back. Not to mention customer service had typos and seemed all around impersonal and unprofessional. Treated me like I just needed to be shut up. I wish I could add pictures of the conversation but I was so shocked how I was being treated after being so patient. I wish I could say better things as I heard highly of this app. I hope other have a better experience than me.

Support teams service was not as solid as it sounds

Before renewing my driving license 2 months before I turned 21 I had my 18+ license that I used you verify my identity and I got notified to try again later a few times. After trying again I was shown that I'm not eligible to book a car because my ID didn't look legit enough. Fast forward months later after I have already turned 21 I wanted to retry verifying my info but turns out that I'm apparently restricted from booking anything for the next 2 years. I contacted your support team to appeal for the restriction 2 DIFFERENT TIMES only to get the exact same email not even trying to acknowledge that I wanted another chance to prove my ID was legit and not trying to look suspicious in any matter with a fake one. Only to be told I have no other choice but having to be kept restricted with no proper explanation or reason why for the next 2 years. Incredibly disappointing having to even write this review because I have never even gotten a chance to book a single trip. Along with this app already making it harder for people under 25 having to go through lots of extra steps of proving they're legit. This isn't the first time either I have seen many other peers of mine dealing with the same issue as me even after multiple attempts and different times periods of trying to prove they're legitimate. Do better Turo this is outright not fair to many including myself.

Bogus charges

So it was my first time using the app I rented the vehicle for a week. I had noticed that the vehicle had issues with the suspension so I had messaged the host telling him that there were issues with his suspension and he messaged me back saying that he had just fixed it three months ago upon dropping off the vehicle. I was about 45 minutes late because my phone had died while I was taking the return so I had to go and get a charger which was fine. I didn’t mind paying the late fee because it was my fault, but I was also charged a smoking fee. Because there were crumbs and little green pieces of foam next to the seat rail, which I didn’t remove the mats and take pictures beforehand because I didn’t realize how extensive you have to be with your pictures while the host didn’t take pictures of removing the floor mats either but in his evidence pictures, he had all the formats removed with pictures of crumbs next to the seat with the seat pushed all the which is ridiculous cause I don’t even smoke and that mass could have been there beforehand, but I didn’t realize it because I didn’t remove the Matt’s so I relayed this to the support team. They told me they would review the pictures. There were also pictures that I had taken of the interior that had burn marks on the seat that proved that there was a previous smoker in their but it was determined that I was at fault and I was charged $150 for smoking when I do not smoke so this was my first experience with Turo

Willing to give them another chance

Update: Turo reached out to refund me the difference between the original, unexpectedly cancelled reservation, and the replacement reservation I had to find. I'm still unsure whether this is standard policy or not, but this gives me reason enough to give them another chance. Original review: I booked a specific vehicle for a long road trip two months out and Turo cancelled it two weeks out, citing safety concerns with the vehicle. Unfortunately, they provide no useful help to replacing the vehicle or giving a discount, and this close to the trip, options are much more limited and prices higher. Using updateTuro is a gamble that I'm not taking again. Second experience, the Airport pickup/drop-off fee is $163. Yeah. For the price of ~3 days of car rental (give or take), you can get the vehicle dropped and picked up at the airport! /s However, the vehicle I rented gave no options other than to pick it up on airport premisis. Only in this case, the vehicle is in a remote car-share parking area on the outskirts of the airport, and I, the customer, am responsible for paying the $42 parking fee. However, Turo has an unyielding policy that, because it is within the airport grounds (which is 52 square miles, btw), the fee is valid. They could care less about customer satisfaction. But they assured me that they wish they could help! (More sarcasm)

Don’t waste your time!

Although the ending result was being able to get a replacement vehicle, the steps to get there were absolutely insane! It took me seven hours to get a replacement vehicle after the original host became unresponsive when a light on the dashboard came on, there was a burning oil smaell coming from underneath the hood and the vehicle wouldn’t get up to speed! Turo expected me to download and create an account with Uber, in order to get around after I was informed that I’d get a replacement vehicle. I did not do this and informed them I was told they’d get me a replacement from a different host—not have to go through Uber! This drained our last night in Orlando by working on this problem for seven hours, including dealing with a third party company that Turo uses to tow the first vehicle. The host would not respond to provide me an address to share w/ the towing company on where to take his vehicle to. Our first time going to Disney during the holidays was supposed to be stress free and it was far from that after the host became unresponsive. The second host that offered their vehicle was misinformed about which airport I needed to leave the vehicle at, in order to fly home; therefore almost backed out to let me use it, up until Turo paid the extra cost. For this being my first time using Turo, I do not feel confident nor trust using the services again! Delayed time, sleep, unhappy family during our Christmas Disney vacation!!

Great Idea Terrible Execution

I’ve had two cars canceled out of four that I have rented so far. One time was the vehicle owner stating he didn’t change a bulb on a turn single out so he would have to cancel. Why don’t you check the vehicle before putting it online? I was relying on that vehicle to be ready and it left me stranded less a than hour before my pick up time! Who does that? More recently the app cancelled an upcoming reservation and neither the host nor I knew why. When I called Turo it went to some third party call center in India where the guy was absolutely zero help. Had me on hold for 7 minutes just to tell me the reservation was cancelled by a “higher department” and that he has no other information. I asked to be transferred to a manager or said other department and was told no. They offered zero compensation for my inconvenience caused by their issues. Completely unprofessional and rude extremely frustrating. Worse part was the guy on the other side end of the phone did not give a single care about my issue. I can totally tell he gets these calls all day long and just reads from a script to get people off the phone. So 50/50 experiences using the app isn’t good enough for me to justify to continue to use it. I’ll just stick to traditional rental agencies. There is a reason they are still around and Turo hasn’t put them out of business like Uber / Lyft did to Taxis. Garbage customer service.

Scam

Deleting application after 1 use. Wanted to try a different way of renting a car for our trip. We typically use regular rental car companies like Hertz and Enterprise, but we wanted to try a cheaper alternative.. or so I thought. We rented the car, and we opted to pick up the car at the airport. The car was dusty and filthy, the car had a lockbox on one of the handles and it looked like someone attempted to saw it off. Overall the car had several dents and was in poor condition. It didn’t look that bad upon reviewing and booking the vehicle but seeing it in person it was in rough condition. We took lots of pictures and submitted them, and just used the car for our trip. A couple days late, after dropping off the vehicle and checking out with the car, we received a message from the owner of the vehicle that the car had a flat tire and just accept responsibility and I wouldn’t get charged. I disputed and sent pictures of all the tires in good condition when we returned it. I received a call and email from Turo stating they aren’t saying I’m at fault, but because a claim was filed and I didn’t pay MORE for more coverage insurance they will be charging me $200+ and stated they would just charge my account. Mind you, we did get insurance just not the most expensive. Any money I thought I saved I got scammed out of, it wasn’t even worth it since the car was in such poor condition. I will be using Hertz or Enterprise next time for a better experience and not to be scammed.

TURO Suggestions When creating a new template message, under “Schedule”, create a “Checked out” option. After adding “unavailability’ to your calendar…have an option to modify/edit it. Currently, only cancel is an option. In Earnings… where “We owe you…’ is, maybe a link or floating info box (like in the chart) to simply what the amounts are owed from. Hosts need a better compensation for cleaning, other than the “cleaning violation”. Most guests know a small cleaning fee may be coming if the vehicle is left dirty. But, $150 only angers them and places both the Guest and Host in a bad situation.

Good cop, bad cop, five-fold increase in rental

After our original rental was in an accident, and the owners could not replace the vehicle, we struggled to find other available vehicles where we were going to be traveling. Our Airbnb and flights were already booked, so our dates were no longer flexible. I had an offer on email for Turo to cover the difference between a rental they found and the original cost, but when I responded to that email, no one replied. I called in four times, spoke with some very kind people over a total of four plus hours on several different days over the course of a couple of weeks. Three of them said they would escalate the concern and get back to me within 24 hours. None of them ever did. I have received no credit, no reimbursement, and no contact, and we eventually had to rent the only available vehicle in the city we were traveling to which could hold our family of six, which was five times the cost of our original rental! I can’t imagine that this sort of thing happens frequently (accidents prior to rental), and Turo completely dropped the ball, seemingly caring nothing about our reality. Additionally, they pointed fingers back-and-forth between US and Canada offices, claiming their policies were different, and they “couldn’t help”. Concept is great. Execution and customer service abominable. Clearly something about their business model cannot accommodate these circumstances, and they dumped the burden back on me, failing to come through even with their offer to reimburse the amount offered in their email.

TERRIBLE customer service

My spouse and I have used Turo for several years with no issues. I found a car I wanted to rent, but was confused with the times available listed for that day, so I tried to message the host, but Turo doesn’t allow messaging until you book, so I booked and immediately contacted the host. I wasn’t expecting an immediate response, as people have lives and jobs and aren’t always glued to their phones or computers, but after 12 minutes I edited the trip to a different day so I would not get a last minute cancellation fee. Rather than changing my trip, the system booked it as a separate trip, something I wasn’t aware of until the host responded to me later and said they were also seeing 2 different trips on their end. I contacted customer support and it was an absolute disaster. The first representative who allegedly entered the chat didn’t respond at all, so I started a new chat, and was disconnected twice because I didn’t answer within 2 minutes. I have things to do, as does everyone. I’m not sure if the representatives I was connected couldn’t see previous messages or if they just didn’t take the time to read them, but it was very time consuming to have to constantly check for new messages, only to ultimately be told tough luck and that they would not acknowledge the error with their system and I would still be charged the “last minute” cancellation fee. We will be canceling upcoming trips and no longer use Turo.

Turo does not care when you get scammed

I took a trip with Turo renting a very specific electric vehicle. The listing was ambiguous, so I followed up immediately after booking confirming it was the exact model with extended battery. When I picked up the car it was the standard battery which affects both range and performance numbers, lowering horsepower and acceleration. The range is what I was most insulted over, I specifically mentioned I was road tripping and the loss of 20kwh battery space made us charge more often and limited the use of the vehicle at destination. We went to a place that only had level 2 charging but if we had the extra capacity this would not have been a difficulty. Instead we had to take taxis while we let the car sit to charge at 7kw/h. Turo didn’t care, at all. They refused to even engage with me until I combed their terms and conditions and found the very specific way you have to complain to them to get a response. They told me that because the vehicle was a premium model that it didn’t matter I was lied to over the battery size. They offered me $25 future credit. Like I would ever rent through them again. Told me I could pre-pay $375 to arbitrate, pro-tip: when you sign up for Turo send them an email saying you opt out of forced arbitration so when you get screwed you can just file small claims. All in all, Turo and Michael Dennis the owner of the standard battery Ford Mustang Mach E are scum who scam. Do not recommend. Use at your own risk.

Extremely dissatisfied

I had my original booking cancel at 8:06am when I was on my way to the airport arriving at 3:00PM pick up time. As anyone who knows there is much time to sort out any hiccup in the midst of travel let alone find a last minute rental the within hours! The original host had apparently cancelled more than half of her rentals by choice. Mine was the shortest amount of time. Why she’s still able to be on Turo is beyond me! Not only did I end up paying almost double the price of most cars I could have found 2 months prior to my trip when I booked, it was a lower end model. That owner was great to work with and I’m appreciative, because I had no clue “delivered” could mean shuttling miles off the airport to get to the rental. Turo offered none of this at the time I chose my vehicle, which also isn’t fair to the owner’s of the vehicles. I paid additional for delivery yet I picked it up out of a parking lot miles away! It caused a rather negative domino effect running a bit behind due to things out of my control which would have been avoided if I was able to drop off at the airport as originally planned. Will never use this option again. Sounds great “skip the line” hassle free. Wait til the owner cancels as your on your way to the airport and left scrambling because you’re entire vacation depends on a rental you paid for. Oh and now this person has all my personal info and didn’t cancel until after I provided the required photo of my license with me in it. Fuming to say the least!!!!!!

Unbelievable

I’ve rented and had a vehicle from Turo since April 2023. It’s never been for leisure for me to rent a vehicle I’m always on go and I’m a single parent there’s a million things I have to do in a day. After having the car for almost 3/months $12,000 plus later their system started moving slow but it would take longer to process. I ended up waking up late and my trip had ended I was able to call and have them reopen the trip. Extended and received a message saying the trip was successfully updated. I woke up in the afternoon to see messages emails and miscalls telling me to return the vehicle because I failed to extend or reach out to the host with 24 hours. I was so confused gave them a call and versus them having an understanding or taking some responsibility for their system I was called a theft and a liar because they didn’t properly process the payment on their end. They just wanted the car back. I was able to speak with someone over the phone that took the payment within seconds but now my account is locked. Now I have no vehicle and they restricted my account like I’m a delinquent. No one understands your situation cause they all from 3rd world countries and barely speak English. Whoever Tom is lied to me and told me once I got my payment up to date my account would be cleared but here it is 50+ hours later no one has reached out to me and now I'm ineligible can’t even log into my account. For a person who was using this app religiously to make sure I had transportation it’s so frustrating.

Scammed by Turo Host

Rented a car for a 4 day trip. Took pictures of the ext and int of the car as instructed by Turo. About 15 minutes into the drive the engine light came on, so I pulled over, messaged the host, and called Turo. Turo support said that this was likely an emissions light and I could either continue to drive the car, or I could return it. They also said that because the engine light came on at the beginning of my trip that I would not be held liable for it, since the issue would have occurred before I picked up the vehicle. I continued the trip, but two days after I returned the car I was hit with a damage claim, stating that the muffler assembly had been damaged and that repairs would cost thousands of dollars. I repeatedly messaged Turo support, getting a new agent every single time, asking them to reference the call with their support team, which they refused to do, and refused to provide me with the recording of that call. When they finally sent over the repair bill I noticed drastic up charges for the parts that the host claimed needed repairing, and sent over multiple listing from the car manufacturer with cheaper costs, which would save well over $1,000. Turo basically emailed back and said this wasn’t their problem and they used a third party assessor and wouldn’t adjust claims unless contacted by an attorney. Go rent with an actual rental car service that has integrity and isn’t looking to support hosts who are scamming users to fix their cars.

Improve your customer service

Had a situation where the host did not meet when I dropped off vehicle. Waited over 30 minutes and host was unresponsive. Called customer service and was told I was responsible for the car. Was advised to leave key in the car or in a “secret location.” I was in the middle of the hood and that was not an option. I didn’t know the pickup location until after the fact or would not have rented the car. Pickup location also seemed like an abandoned home. TURO needs to verify pickup locations to match Driver’s License or some property record from the HOST. Customer service was outsourced call center that would not understand the situation. I ended up just taking the key and messaging the HOST that he could pick it from MY address. This whole situation is absurd. Had I left the key in the vehicle, someone would have broken in to take it. There was no “secret location.” What the heck? Am I a mind reader? Leave it in trash can? Under a rock? In the mailbox that was full of mail since it didn’t appear that anyone lives there? Was advised tk leave it under the car. Kept explaining the neighborhood was not safe, with a high traffic area and people were observing me. Not a safe place to leave an unattended car. Customer service kept telling me it was my responsibility. Yeah, okay. Tell that to my insurance company when I show them the documented photos and video of the neighborhood and surroundings. Won’t ever use this app again specifically because of these safety issues.

Worst Car Rental App Ever‼️‼️‼️

So I signed up for this app because the idea behind it seemed pretty intriguing. I travel a lot both for work and for family outings so renting a car to avoid adding extra mileage on my car is usually the route I take. With that being said I downloaded this app and attempted to rent a car but was denied. I wasn’t given an explanation from the app & after several & I mean SEVERAL attempts to reach out to the Turo support team I finally received an email MONTHS later & they were extremely vague about why I was being denied. The only thing I was my account was banned. I was soo confused because I had never used the app before & I’m a CDL trucker with a clean driving record so there was absolutely no reasoning for my account to have been denied. I til this day have no explanation for my account being banned & they never responded after that email so you can only imagine how bad their customer service is. I new a coworker that used the service once and got scammed by the host with bogus claims of “damages” to the rental car despite the fact that my coworker sent pictures of the condition he left the car in. But without question the app deducted several hundreds of dollars for bogus claims of artificial damages to the rental. From my understanding my coworker is lawyering up to sue both the host and the app. All in all I would never recommend this app to anyone. I just go threw a legitimate car rental service like Enterprise or Budget Rentals

I am a host

I am a turo host who has 3 cars and has been on the platform for a year and a half. I love the idea of this app and the opportunities it gives people. So why a 1 star? Because Turo doesn’t care about their hosts. One of my cars were involved in a minor accident and turo has been giving me issues the entire time. This isn’t the first time either, but this time is by far the worst. I have been waiting for over a month with not one word about when they are going to be sending the money to fix my car per their insurance agreement. Not a single word from them. I have called them 50 times, each time being told I will receive a call back that I never get. I have emailed them over 100 times about this. I have called and spoken to multiple managers who all tell me they are putting me on priority to get this situation resolved but yet nothing ever gets done. Still no emails, still no word. I am currently losing money on an investment I made simply because this company cannot look at an email and send the funds to do what they promised. They don’t even have a claims department phone number for their hosts, only guests! I am very seriously considering closing down my turo business and selling my cars because I refuse to do business with an organization that doesn’t even respect their partners enough to stand by what they say and to do it in a timely manner. I’m sick and tired of how this company mistreats their hosts, as I’m sure other hosts are.

Worst car rental service ever

I tried using TURO for the first time last weekend. Being my first time renting there was a lot of information I didn’t have as a first time renter. My first booking was a no show. No response. I gave Turo a second chance and booked another car same day. TURO has so far charged my card over $1000 days after I returned the vehicle. This is for a weekend. There is no Live agent to talk to with billing disputes. Imagine the frustration I have been going through the whole week. Host can accuse you of every violation days after your trip is over. Plant stuff in the car. Take pictures and TURO will honor what they said based on pictures received days later. As a user I have been exploited and not heard. All the chat agents I have messaged asked for before pictures of every inch of the car. Which I only took 3 pictures per the live agent I was talking to at time of pickup. I was charged a smoking violation 72hours after returning the car. I have never smoked a day in my life. I have no way of proving that the host is lying to get money from me. I was also charged for cleaning violations when I received the car dirty from Host(RED) Before you have a chance to review or dispute a violation they automatically debit your account. I am currently waiting to hear back from all the emails i have sent. Being a person that rented from traditional rentals this App has so far been my worst nightmare. I need to talk to someone to that will listen.

Beware Rigged Seller Ratings

Turo is a great way to save money and time for rental cars. I’ve used it several times successfully. However, take owner ratings with a grain of salt as Turo removes low stars left for owners at owner request, artificially inflating owner overall scores. For a rental in the Asheville NC market, I rated an owner 5 stars on all categories except for 3 stars for accessibility of the car. There were several reasons for this, but most strangely the owner had parked the vehicle with the only license plate flush to a wall, and required me to have my face and id and the license plate all in one picture before he would allow access to the keys. Imagine me on the ground in a dingy airport parking lot twisting myself to get this picture! There is no requirement of this type of thing in Turo’s policies and it’s also just moronic. So, there were clearly accessibility issues hence the 3 star rating. Unfortunately I responded to the owner’s message wondering why I had left 3 stars (won’t do that again). He was upset that his rating was lowered, took it to Turo customer service, and they deleted my entire review. When I spoke with them about this, they refused to reinstate it despite the fact that I hadn’t even left a comment just stars, and despite the fact that what the owner requested was not in Turo’s policies. They expected me to just walk away from the reservation instead. The agent even said if I were an 80 year old person I’d still be expected by Turo to get on the ground and squirm for the photo.

Absolutely Terrible EVERYTHING!

Terrible company! They will say you did damage to the car when pictures clearly show otherwise! I had the worst experience with this company!! And still dealing with it as I’m writing this. I’ve rented hundreds of times in my life and I want to make sure no one else has to go through what I did. The host controls everything and you have no rights as the renter/guest. My host changed the pickup location right when I landed. The location was at a haunted house parking lot in a dark, muddy in the middle of no where location. Couldn’t take any before pictures because it was so dark. I drove the car for 3 days and basically had it parked most of the tine away from other cars because I was working in a small town in Indiana. I returned the car at the original location and took my pictures of the car that clearly shows nothing wrong with the car! Here’s the best part, the host messages me and asks me if I hit the car on anything in the whole driver side of the car? I said no, look at the pictures I took. Well it doesn’t matter what pictures I took, the host has all the power to make a claim and say I did it. That’s what she did! I got the basic coverage and it states I am liable even if it’s not my fault!!! I would have to pay 3k out of pocket for something I didn’t even do! I’m still dealing with this and just want to make sure you watch out for this company, they will screw you over big time!!!

Don’t be a host!

I loved Turo for over a year and recommended it to so many people. After four months as a host I know the truth. Rent out your junky extra car but not your personal vehicle. Guests can be hit or miss like anything but the Turo customer support will screw over the host every time. Reimbursements have been impossible to get and I’ve lost out on over $200 for mileage driven, tolls, and empty fuel tank. Had all the appropriate pictures taken through the app and still get denied. How is this legal? Car returned dirty inside and out with dents in my leather seats on a 24 hour rental and the company denied any compensation. Pictures showed it was just detailed and washed. If you care about your car don’t rent it out on Turo. Turo will side with the guest every time. And if they don’t respond you don’t get paid. Why am I assumed to be lying and the party who won’t respond is sided with? I’m the one with photographic evidence. Update: Turo did not respond to the email I sent after their reply here. They also never reviewed the escalation. Clearly just trying to save face and not serious about fixing anything. Guest chose to pay after I took matters into my own hands. Thanks for nothing. I shouldn’t have to harass guests to receive payments. Being told very nicely that “we don’t believe you and think you are a liar” was a wonderful experience that I will look forward to never having again. Hope your company goes out of business you jerks.

Modification nightmares

I was looking for a vehicle and had the right dates and times for my trip but everytime I would move to a different app to verify flight times, the app would reset and I would have to put all my info in again. After I finished my reservation I realized I had out the wrong time down resulting in me having to return the car a few hours earlier than expected. I tried to modify the time on my app and it said for no charge but kept erroring out when I’d confirm. I messaged the host and he graciously agreed to allow me to turn the car in a few hours later than my reservation since my pick up was actually 12 hours after my scheduled pick. When I picked up he did mention that Turo may try to incur fees if I turned it in late. So I try chat feature in their website, they ask me a thousand questions and then ultimately give me a phone number because they can’t resolve it. I call the phone number and the customer service begins scolding me on why I didn’t call before my trip started, I responded well why don’t you make an app that functions correctly. After nearly an hour phone call, his resolve was to charge me $125 for the modification and then refund me 3-5 days later. Such a mountain of stress while on vacation having to deal with these people. A rental agency would’ve just marked the time I picked up and tell me to bring it back before that time on the day of drop off. So absurd that the car owner doesn’t wish to charge me extra yet Turo wants to squeeze every penny they can out of you. Don’t use this service!

Horrible against host

If you a customer is great you can smoke and peoples cars, Turo will always side the customer. If you are a host it is terrible if a customer doesn’t leave a review it goes as a zero, it is impossible to get every customer to leave a review, if the weather changes for example come from Vegas to Colorado in winter months, tire pressure will go off as the temperature changes if a customer leaves anything below a 4 starts over the weather changes and changing the psi on a tire it goes against you. Customer support is ran by Indians and you can’t understand anything, if customer damage your car and don’t want to pay for it, and leaves you anything below 5 starts as retaliation and you call support to get that review off thy will tell you that’s not their problem, also if you list your car for 44 bucks a day and you borrow your friends phone to see where your listing stands, you will see Turo will inflate the daily rate about 10 dollars more, and that doesn’t include the trip fee and whatever other fees they charged. So that means you list your car for 44 a day and it will show to consumers for 54 a day, and they take out of the host daily fee anywhere between 30% 20% or 10%. So thy love to double triple dip. Do your self a favor if you are a host to go private, it is mathematical impossible to take all the risk and they take so much out of your pocket. And they never pay out claims like cleaning, like smoking etc.

Low key breeding space for scams

I’ve only done two rides with Turo and I’ll never do that again. I’ll stick to traditional car rentals. After my first ride, I was charged for a late fee. The car was never returned late. It was later explained that charge was for an improper return stating I returned the car to the wrong location. The car was returned to the exact location it was picked up from. Tried to dispute with the host he turned it over to the support team. The support team requested my proof which o submitted. They then sided with the host without even looking at the documents. I disputed it again this time speaking with an actual agent who actually looked over the documents and understood my reason to dispute they said they would hand it over to a manager and they would contact me by the next day. That was almost a month ago I’m still waiting to be contacted. Set aside from that let’s talk actual pricing. The car I used was a beat up 2010’s Nissan Sentra with stains and a smell inside it was about $45-50 a day. I literally could’ve went to enterprise and rented a newer cleaner car for the same price. I tried Turo based on the ads targeting convenience. Nothing about my experience was convenient. So long as I have breath in me I will tell anyone who will listen to not use Turo. It’s not convenient and host can make up charges and the support team will back them up even if you have “indisputable evidence” their words not mine.

Turo “super host” scammed my girlfriend’s elderly Asian American mother

I’ve used Turo in the past and have had mixed experiences. However I will never use this company again due to the recent experience my girlfriend’s elderly Asian American Mom had being scammed on the app and taken advantage of by a complete jerk. They thought they rented a Mercedes Benz by a super host user named Vidas J. The car had decent ratings when they picked the car up at the airport on Christmas Eve the car had severe exterior damage that looked like rust. It looked like a drug dealer’s car and nothing like the photos. The super host mentioned “sun damage” in the footnote of the posting but they had no idea it would look the way it did based on the windshield. There were cracks on the windshield and the tire sensor was out. Since it was Christmas Eve they had no choice but to take the car in order to get to their family. They took a ton of pictures of all the damage on the car to ensure they wouldn’t be blamed. To make matters worse the “super host” tried to intimidate them and shake them down for new “cracks on the windshield” and the tire sensor being broken. Can you imagine! I will never use Turo again and will tell everyone I know not to use Turo again. Turo support did nothing to help and didn’t have a person to contact. The super host was able to call and prevent us from eating the experience and gave my girlfriend’s Mom a 1 star. They felt threatened and taken advantage. Never use Turo

UPDATE: To think that these people wrote back on the review to say I should email them to solve the problem, I really thought they were going to but like I said they just did that to save face and didn’t even bother responding back to my email. Save your money, because company like this love to act like they care when truly they ware unwilling to do anything to help the customer in need. This is truly the worst car rental company ever. I had a friend who even told me not to use them but I didn’t listen. I had a rental that I was going to get for my birthday in which my host canceled whiles I had a thirty minute grace period. I was LIVID due to being in another state with no way of getting to my destination. All I received was a notification stating the I CANCELLED so that it looks better for the company. I called them because they took a cancellation fee from my account when I WASN’T the one that cancelled. I decided to give them a call in WHICH they all claimed that I will receive my refund but now all of a sudden it’s not going through. They decided to tell me in two business days I’m supposed to receive an email, in which I haven’t received any email or call of any sort about my refund and issues I encountered with this company. This is the worst thing one can do to a valuable customer. Please don’t waste your time on a company like this because they truly don’t care about the wrongs that they do.

Bad customer services

The car that I booked was defective broke down due to no fault of my own in the middle of nowhere. Their roadside assistance lied to me when asked if I was able to leave which created a huge inconvenience for me as I waited for hrs. Because the car broke down before I wasn’t able to complete the trip the host charged me with $28+ tax which I would have to pay. Now when I called Billy from the Quebec location he had me on hold for majority of the call to look into my file after explaining to billy that the trip created a huge inconvenience for me and the expenses that came up from a faulty car he spat on me by saying to talk to the host about the reimbursement after arguing with him for another 10 mins he told me he can only give me $25.00. The trip for 2 days was “over $91.00. I stress to billy that as a result of the inconvenience I was out money for making arrangements to get picked up, a babysitter and my lost wages he then chuckled and said he is now able to do $35.00. The worst customer service ever, when I told him he was essentially making a mock of me I ask him to speak with a manager or floor supervisor, he said that there is no one available which is blatant lie. It’s a call centre there is always someone supervising the floor. The host was wonderful but the staff at turo have no respect for the company or their clients. They treat their customers like joke and try the best way to get them off the phone. Every time I ask for manager billy stated that they’re aren’t available and someone will give me call. I kept asking for a estimate time of when I would be able to receive this call, he wasn’t able to provide me that. He is very condescending and I felt like a joke dealing with him. If this is what turos staff and customers service is like, I’m not comfortable doing business with them anymore what if I got into an accident and had serious injuries this is the same treatment I would get huh?! Atrocious!!!

*Impossible to speak with agent. *Can only hope that you rent your vehicle to good people. Ridiculous user fees. ***Please! someone create competition!! Maybe that will force this company to at minimum hire a human competent enough to have and use a phone. Over a year with no resolution or even a response to a request made for compensation from a client who abused rental privileges. Abuses included significant mileage over-use, returning my Lexus RX nearly a day late, text and verbal abuse when trying to receive compensation from client. Multiple attempts to find any resolution from turo. The above is not an isolated incident. There is literally a third party site which dedicated itself to finding a phone number and steps needed to speak with a customer service agent if needed. You need to google Turo Phone number though.

Cheap Liar Rental Trash

DO NOT USE IT, OR YOU WILL BE HIGHLY POSSIBLY IN TROUBLE It seems to be like car -version Airbnb, but this Turo crap is totally a cheap joke. I have to pay $2000 as an accident victim to Turo, after getting into a rear-end collision, even though purchasing a protection plan. The collision centre and police decided that it was 100% other driver’s fault. After a month, Turo told me that they would charge me $2000, regardless of whose fault it was. I contacted the other side’s insurance company, and they opened a file and willing to cover the whole cost. However, Turo insisted that this is the so-called “Protection Plan” policy that it is charging the guest regardlessly. Turo does not show you the clean information during the order process, and delivers an illusion that you’ve purchased an insurance to protect the trip, however, it is a pure trap to only protect the company itself, and asks the guests to pay for everything. Dear peer user, please please think twice before deciding to use it instead of a traditional agent. You should hope you are lucky enough to finish the trip. Otherwise, you have to pay any unexpected bill even as a victim. The company will try any possible way to treat you as an enemy, and threaten you with their “professional” service. Believe me, no body wants to experience this horrible trash ever, ever.

The amount $ received per km is way too low, even if I increased the price Turo was suggesting (it was ridiculously low!). Also you have to meet with the person getting and returning, so it’s very inconvenient. I rented my car 2 times and am unlikely to do it again. Not worth it.

TURN AND RUN

If you are thinking about using Turo to rent a vehicle, or if you know someone who is thinking about renting from them I urge you not too. We needed a vehicle big enough for 6 people and could not find anything, I came across this website through a booking website reviews are mostly good so we booked a Ford Escape from the host named Volken because it seated what we needed. He picked us up at the airport as discussed. When he got there the vehicle had a noticeable dent and hole and you could hear it had an exhaust leak, but we were like okay it has to be okay if Turo uses it. We take off ready to have an amazing relaxing vacation in a different part of Canada. We drive for 1 hour towards are first destination and the replace oil light comes on. 🤷‍♀️ I am NOT doing someone else’s oil while on my vacation when that something that should have been done before. Then then next day (Saturday) we leave to go to our destination we are staying at while we are on vacation and after driving 2.5 hours out of the 3ish hours we start hearing loud noises and quickly realize that the muffler was broken. 😡 We finally get to our Airbnb without stopping to pick up groceries that are an hour drive in every single direction because we wanted to unpack our luggage stretch use the washroom then go get food. That didn’t happen because when Rick went to see what he needed to fix it until we could exchange vehicles, he saw that it was not something he fault safe doing. So he contacted Volken who refused to do ANYTHING about even after he knew about it and that it was nothing we did. So Saturday evening we call Turo, call 1 goes on to blame us and so forth basically not looking out for us as the pain customer and says the best they can do is refund and give us $250 for another ride we accepted and was left with they were getting us another vehicle and this car was going to be towed. We gave the address and everything and we were ready to go. Sunday morning we wake up and there’s still nothing no calls no emails no communication. So I call I get this really sweet lady named Sandra we talk. I tell her what happened. She is like OK. She looked into it and find out. She can’t get us a new car until this one’s picked up by a tow truck so we’re like OK. Can this happen because we have now not eaten anything in 24 hours so we’ve had no food for 24 hours thank goodness we had water and she said absolutely. We will do this. I will get it done. We go do some exploring of where we’re staying and then it’s been three hours and we still have not received anything either so call number three. The guy was like oh I guess Tow truck guy bailed and they just didn’t call for another one so now this is going on 36 hours without food so we’re like OK happen like now because you know you’re kind of making it look a little like your companies fraud you’ve taken all of our money we’ve not received any payment discount nothing and now you are basically withholding the basic human necessities not getting us anything and keep in mind where we are situated there’s no delivery there’s no takeout. There’s no cabs and there is no Ubers which we have told them every person we talked to. We told this information to so there are aware of our situation. The person then said that the tow truck was 45 minutes away and as soon as the truck is picked up, they can help us with another vehicle perfect so the vehicle gets picked up. We call and they’re like oh we don’t have confirmation that it’s picked up. Did you go with it? Did you take a picture? Did you do this? Did you do that You guys called the tow truck company you knew we were on vacation and we’re not gonna go back with the tow truck and why do we need to take all these pictures. As of Monday July 23 at 5pm we have yet to hear ANYTHING from Turo and anytime we call which we have been basically calling every hour. We’re told that it is now gone to the supervisors and management, which is above them and they cannot offer us anything at all except to say that we’ve called again. So we have been stranded in a province that is not ours where we have anyone we know and have gone without eating anything except for chips, thankfully we were smart enough to buy some chips and milk and cookies. So besides the little bit that we are sharing amongst three of us we have not eaten since Saturday afternoonish. I DONT EVER RECOMMEND TURO NOR WILL I EVER USE TURO. STAY AWAY! Thank goodness Rick’s brother is 5 hours away in a different province and stopped his work day to literally save us by picking Rick up to go all the way back to Nova Scotia to get the only car available just to have him come the 3.5 hours back to New Brunswick.

Fraud

I recently had a terrible experience with the Turo app. From start to finish, it felt like a scam designed to drain your wallet. The booking process was unnecessarily complicated, with hidden fees that only became apparent after I had committed to the rental. When I finally picked up the car, it was in terrible condition—far from the “excellent” rating it had received on the app. Customer service was unresponsive and unhelpful when I tried to address these issues. To make matters worse, they charged me exorbitant fees for minor damages that were already present when I picked up the car. I also had to deal with unclear and confusing insurance policies that left me feeling unprotected. Overall, Turo turned what should have been a simple car rental into a stressful and expensive ordeal. I would not recommend this app to anyone. Save your money and rent from a reputable company instead.

Worst car rental EVER.

It was my very first time booking with this garbage company (should I even call it a company??). Please be aware. I booked a car for 14 days but had to return it after just 4 days because the coolant hose burst. Turo's customer service is abysmal. I thought Verizon was bad, but Turo is far worse. Their customer service is outsourced to Southeast Asia or South America, and they have zero math skills and an incomprehensible accent. First of all, the host, Rebecca, didn’t have the vehicle ownership documents in the car, despite assuring me twice via message that they were there. I had to wait over an hour for her to find the registration and send it to me via text. When the coolant pipe exploded, Turo’s customer service told me to return the car and they would “take care of me.” I naively thought they would provide a replacement vehicle since it wasn’t my fault. They kept promising help but started playing games once I returned the car. My original car had unlimited miles and was only 7 minutes from my home. They found a replacement car with a 3000 km limit, located 70 km away from my home for both pickup and drop-off. They showed zero empathy for my situation. They offered me rundown old cars because nothing else was available at the last moment. Luxury cars were available, but they told me to take an old, garbage car or take my money back—they didn’t care. Imagine being in the middle of a vacation and your rental car company tells you “my way or the highway.” I chose to take the money back and book another car with Enterprise. I returned the car with a full gas tank, even though it was only half-full when I picked it up. Despite having all the pictures and evidence, Turo refused to refund me for the additional gas I provided. Instead of giving me a refund, they charged the refund amount again, so now I have to dispute the charge with my credit card company. I WILL NEVER EVER EVER BOOK FROM THEM AGAIN. PLEASE DON’T BOOK FROM THEM, OR YOU WILL END UP IN A SITUATION LIKE MINE.

Hidden Poor Reviews

This app deletes bad user reviews and hides the true problems underlying their transactions. I had a car that didn’t start and it took the host 1+ hour to find another. At this point, they offered a 15% discount which I thought was reasonable based on the circumstances. The new car we got had minimal tread left on the tires and became dangerous on rainy roads. Eventually I realized Turo wasn’t helping with the cancellation of the original booking or helping refund the money (despite having everything in writing from the host about the discount). So on the last day to review, I shared my experience via a host review. Turo has now deleted my review from the host’s page and their rating is at 5 stars again. I have never witnessed user reviews being deleted (especially without discussion with users) from a service before and after the terrible experience, I could never recommend this app. The entire process isn’t trustworthy. My advice: - Rent from established companies that keep their fleet in good condition; this service has no standardization and I’m still shocked to see my negative review deleted within the app - If you use Turo, have all discussions with your host documented in the app in case of dispute so you can show your credit card company - Take photos and videos of the car’s before/after condition

App issues with photos related to false damage claim

Be very careful if renting to take photos of car before and inspect with owner at handover. We had an issue with a rental. The owner claimed damage (minor paint scratches) that we didn't cause and were present before. The cost estimate was exaggerated. I had loaded photos of my own to dispute the claim but the app didn't keep them - they said it was a known issue in the app. We disputed the claim $1300, but the company totally supported the owner. Their "independent " estimate of damage was completed remotely based on their photos. Unethical one sided process.

Inspection of the vehicle Immediately on the spot when it is returned

I strongly recommend the car owner to inspect the vehicle immediately on the spot when the vehicle is returned with the presence of the renter like those traditional car rental companies. I had a very very bad experience that I was told that there were minor scratches few hours after returning the vehicle and I was required to pay for the damage repair cost which was absolutely ridiculous as when I returned the vehicle, I did walk around the vehicle taking pictures making sure there was NO damages. Due to this very very bad experience, I will NEVER rent a car through Turo.

Got “restricted” while trying to rent

Turo has falsely restricted my account based on the following: - Failed background screening - Risk flags triggered by Turo’s internal system - One or more motor vehicle record violations Which I have never had any vehicle accidents, or driving infractions, and no insurance issues whatsoever. Not sure what I have failed for “background screening” as I have never been a criminal ever. I have been a solid insured G class driver for 15 years, and I have no criminal record. Great screening process, they found me to be unfit somehow…

Useless Insurance

You might wanna read the insurance policy before renting a car from Turo, our first time renting here on a Vacation that supposedly should make us at ease and relax. Rented it for 6 days, unfortunately we got rock chipped on the windshield, A SMALL DENT. We took good care of the car, after the trip a claim was filed and they are charging us another $962 for the windshield. The insurance we paid with the trip didn’t cover even a single CENT. Ridiculous! This gave us a headache, what happened is not even intentional, and they held us fully accountable being the insurance we paid useless. A trip that suppose to be fun became so stressful.

Zero accountability in case of an emergency- avoid at all cost!

I regret having to award Turo a one-star rating based on my recent experience, which underscores their inadequate customer support, complete lack of responsibility, and accountability for customers during emergency situations. During my trip, I encountered a severe issue with the vehicle I rented through Turo. The car broke down in the middle of nowhere due to a critical mechanical failure. Despite the inconvenience and safety concerns, Turo’s customer support proved to be shockingly unhelpful and unresponsive. Not only was I left stranded for seven hours in a remote area waiting for assistance, but I had to make the difficult decision to leave the rental car by the roadside. Turo did not provide any meaningful assistance or guidance during this ordeal. It was an extremely stressful and harrowing experience, and Turo’s lack of support only exacerbated the situation. Furthermore, Turo failed to hold the vehicle owner accountable for providing a poorly maintained car. Despite being assured that the vehicle was in good condition, it clearly was not. The engine oil was low and dirty, the engine coolant was below the minimum level, and the car displayed multiple warning lights before breaking down completely. Turo should have thoroughly inspected and ensured the vehicles listed on their platform meet safety and maintenance standards. Adding to the frustration, Turo’s reimbursement for the ordeal amounted to less than 30% of the total cost incurred due to their negligence. This paltry compensation does not begin to cover the additional expenses I had to bear, such as renting another vehicle to continue my journey. Turo’s reimbursement policy is clearly inadequate and does not reflect the extent of the inconvenience and financial burden they imposed on me. In summary, Turo’s response to this emergency situation was utterly inadequate and demonstrated a lack of responsibility and accountability towards their customers. This experience has left me deeply disappointed and frustrated with Turo’s services. I strongly advise caution when considering using their platform for your travel needs, as their lack of support and insufficient reimbursement policies can lead to significant hardships for customers.

Would give it 0 stars if I could.

I am a frequent out of town driver, my family and friends who host some cars on this app recommended it to me. In a bid to support my own community, I was going to get this app to rent cars from people I know when I travel to various cities. Well Turo had other plans. 3 days before a trip I downloaded the mobile app to setup and try to book someone’s car that I personally know. The app first of all is terrible, the navigation is not intuitive and, when making an account if you make one grammatical error you cannot go back and update it. Because of this one simple number for my drivers license that I typed wrong, my account was unable to be made, so I had to go to customer support and give them a photo of myself with my license next to my face. Well that was an even bigger mistake. The next day they told me I was unable to make an account and they actually permanently restricted my access to the app. I know for a fact this is because I have a middle eastern appearance. I have been driving for over 10 years, fully licensed in my country, my demerit points are fully intact, I have had insurance for the whole time I’ve been driving, never missed a payment, never filed a claim for collisions or accidental, my credit score is near excellent status. So there is no logical reason why I’m being denied from using this app. They know there is no logical reason as their email does not divulge any specifics as to why I’m being denied services, but I know it’s racially motivated. My friends have rented out cars to white people who have damaged the car and still maintained access to the service. Yet for no explainable reason by anyone at Turo, I’m denied access? Realistically I know gen z kids are going to keep this company successful but I truly wish them the worst and I’m making this review so that anyone with a conscious will choose to avoid using their services. Just another greedy racist American company looking to make a quick buck.

Terrible Customer Service. Do not download

If I could give 0 stars I would. Rented the for the first time and the host claimed a scratch when in fact it was not true. Barely drove the car during our trip however customer service was terrible and didn’t resolve issue. Wouldn’t recommend. It’s not the same service as Airbnb because Airbnb protects their guests and they’re sooo much better. Lost money even though we paid for insurance. Went back and forth so many times with customer support and they still took the hosts side. We were basically scammed from the host and TURO believed it. Also what a joke of an automated email they send when you write a review lol. The email they provide doesn’t even go through when I respond back to help resolve this issue. Learn from me and don’t rent from them.

DO NOT use under any circumstance!

Don’t believe the fake positive reviews here. Check out their reviews online for the horrible truth. A scamming company with terrible customer service. The app is poorly designed and doesn’t function properly too.

Shady

Provide all your personal information along with credit card details just to have an account and then you can’t rent and they will not tell you why. Perfect driving record for over 30 years no ticket no accident and I’m in my late 40’s.

Choose ANY option but Turo

>> Please read before using Turo << I just finished my first Turo rental, and to the point – I urge you to find ANY other option for renting a car. The gal I rented from was wonderful and so was her car, but the car was broken into on the first day. Dealing with customer service at Turo after that was an absolute NIGHTMARE. Where to begin…being harassed at 6AM on a Saturday morning while on holiday, hundreds of dollars in hidden fees, refusing to extend the rental duration despite the owner being fine with it…the list goes on. Once again, a great idea is ruined by terrible customer service and ‘gotcha!’ small print. If nothing goes wrong during your rental, whether you’re a host or a renter, you’ll probably be fine. But things don’t always go perfectly, and you’ll read nothing but nightmares on both sides when things go wrong. Turo was a great idea ruined by greed, poor execution, and deceptive policies hidden in the small print. I look forward to another company coming along and doing it right. ** A follow-up 2 days later ** The moment I got home I paid the $500 deductible, believing I’d never have to deal with Turo again. No such luck. I immediately received threats that there could be more fees coming, and would I like to coordinate with their collections department so it doesn't affect my credit rating. Are you kidding me? This company employs predatory tactics to shamelessly exploit fear of credit reprisals to pressure customers into registering like deadbeats with their collections department. I’m betting this is the first step to discovering more small print and excuses to charge me further. There’s no question in my mind this is a common practice at Turo, and I strongly encourage you to find ANY other solution for renting a car. Literally anything. A mule and cart if you have to – it'll be less stressful in the end.

Insurance is a scam!

Rented a car and got a chip in the window. Charged the owner 250$ and me 750$ and I had a quote to do mobile repair for 199$. It’s just a rip off and I will never use Turo again.

Horrible Customer Service

Every single member of my family tried to book a car for an upcoming trip. We all got the same error message. We all contacted customer service (a chat bot) and was told our case would be expedited. We never heard back. Beyond frustrating. Despite having positive experiences in the past, I hesitate to recommend Turo to anyone given how bad this experience was. I could not get a direct email address for anyone or get a human being on the phone. Deeply disappointed.

Glitchy app

I have a hard time with the app. It constantly logs me out of host mode and I can’t get back in. I have no idea how to access my tax forms but I need that so I can do my taxes this evening. Doubtful that’s going to happen.

Terrible Customer Service

If you’re thinking of putting your car up on Turo, do NOT do it I was a host for a few weeks until a guest got a flat tire which should have been a simple fix but it ended up taking 3 weeks for Turo to settle the issues. I had no car and no communication. I had to chase customer service for 2 weeks and they just pawn off the issue to the next person, sending you in circles The experience has been a nightmare working with them

Trash company, trash team, trash app

Don't ever try to download this app. They won't let you book cars for no reason. Customer service is trash. They can't and won't solve any problem that you have. Keep yourself away from here. Try only rent cars with those big and legit rentals. This turo trash is gonna die soon.
