DraftCode for PHP IDE App Comments & Reviews

DraftCode for PHP IDE Positive Reviews

Great start but iOS falls short?Ok, l know this is a huge undertaking and iOS is severely limited so far as a development tool. What issue this app seems to suffer from is as a developer, I can’t really work on a plugin in WordPress while WP is running. Pretty ineffective to have to start and stop WP each time to edit a file and then see the result rendered. Update: I contacted the developer and he has been VERY responsive to my concerns. He has provided some ideas for workflow that seem acceptable. Running web apps on iOS is no small feat. My hope is that this app will be well supported and the product will continue to be updated..Version: 1.6.7

Great start, but has some severe problemsWhile the app does exactly what it says, there's some things you should know before dropping the 10 bucks: - The Javascript messages viewer is always empty no matter how many times you try to print through the console. - You can't Cmd+F or Cmd+G to quickly find strings or lines. This is a huge blow to working on larger documents. - You can't quickly navigate lines because tapping any line only brings you to the front, and Home/End don't work. - Scroll position jumps to either the top or bottom of the document every time you switch between files. - You can't work from an existing workspace folder; you MUST copy a folder into the program's folder in order to work on it, or manually import individual files. That means if you're working on a number of files you have on Dropbox, every edit you make must be manually saved, file by file, back into the original folder. - And this is made doubly difficult by the fact that copying between the two locations is a nightmare on iOS. I can't even paste my project into the DraftCode folder anymore because I just get an error saying "Couldn't communicate with a helper application". This is actually a Dropbox problem, but it's one that you have to be aware of since you can't work straight from the Dropbox folder..Version: 1.11

Good tool for learning PHP on the goI use it to learn PHP and web development while commuting. Not sure how well it would support a production environment. I want to start learning Laravel too and I am not sure it can be accommodated in this environment. I am amazed at what they did get working in iOS and the product interface is really good and is fast..Version: 1.7

A Top Player!I find this mobile IDE to be becoming a trusty tool in my workflow belt. While, there are bugs (especially the undo roulette, lol), I will say, at this moment, this is the best of its kind of app on the market, in my opinion. I look forward to following the developers as you all continue to enhance this wonderful application..Version: 1.9.5

Terrific app!I love this app. If you’ve used (or heard of) WAMP or MAMP, this is like that, in a “lite” version. When I travel - or even when I’m just home sitting in bed - I often prefer my iPad to a laptop. DraftCode let’s me work on web applications without dealing with remote servers or even needing an internet connection Sure, it isn’t a 100% replacement for working with a full-featured IDE on a laptop, but it’s great for knocking out prototypes or demos, working on a plane, or any time mobility is the #1 consideration..Version: 1.9.5

Solid App!Well maintained; functionality true to description. Many thanks 🙏.Version: 1.7.6

Impressive!Well worth the price. Thank you!.Version: 1.9

Great for practiceIt’s a little buggy. The keyboard gets in the way of me scrolling. Sometimes I can’t scroll at all..Version: 1.9.1

Local WebserverI agree with the other folks, this is definitely a powerful web server for the iPad. awesome! I was searching for an app that was similar to MAMP, and this is filling my needs. I know this is geared toward PHP, but it has the potential to be some much more (e.g. full stack syntax highlighting, file management vs. defaulted php extensions). My recommendation to the developer is to expand on this foundation. Some enhanced UX, power user/work flow enhancements. more focus on managing projects. For instance, I created a new html, css, js, php project (took a little while to set everything up. A ’template’ project configuration would be so slick) and would love to render the project (like switching to the browser and hitting refresh) instead of rendering the file that you’re viewing. I have to traverse back to the index file and run that file to see my changes. thanks for the work you’ve put into this; can’t wait to see where it goes..Version: 1.4.1

Hard to tell what it's capable ofThere's little to no documentation or tutorials to show off its potential..Version: 1.6.5

Buy it!!!Iif you don't know know anything n jist jump into things n learn that way like me well buy the pro its worth mu leagal tender.Version: 1.9.1

Great so far...only 1 day inI am impressed with the ability to do PHP on the iPad. I got phpliteadmin by downloading and unzipped it using short PHP commands. Also brought over files from my online site the same way. Awesome! I am able to "share HTML/CSS files" built in PHP to Koder (another great app) and run on a local web server that connects to other users on my network. This might be a good way for me to have a completely offline server for my app to host static pages on my local network right from the iPad. Not sure yet how many connections it will handle. I was golfing in the Adirondacks with 30 guys for 3 day fall event and used a big laptop and printer for our tournament results -- no data coverage, old school. I am assuming Apple won't allow a dynamic language like PHP to be a web server but if they ever do this would be the app to host local dynamic pages..Version: 1.4.1

Only App That Does ThisCouldn't find any other app that runs PHP and looks usable. It's actually on par with the better web editors in the App Store in that the text formatting and look of the editor's UI. My one wish is that they made it so I could multi-task on my iPad Pro. Currently I can't swipe another window to show Safari or Kindle. Since this is mainly for testing out stuff and doing tutorials, that would be a huge improvement over having to switch apps back and forth. Great otherwise though. Even does file management functions.Version: 1.5.3

Love this abilityIn meetings and such while on iPad I can run hypothetical tests and pull entire repos to edit and run them. Only thing I would really like to see is source control so you can apply the changes you made directly. If this app had that functionality then there would be no competition clan case + iPad + DraftCode is a programmers dream..Version: 1.4

DraftCodeThis is the app I've wanted for quite a while. Finally, a PHP app that implements POST and allows me to call another form that can retrieve the data. Now I'm finally making progress on trying to learn PHP. Thanks - this app replaced Kodiak PHP for me, since it doesn't support POST..Version: 1.0.2

AmazingThis app is one of the best PHP programming apps I've ever used. It could use a manual but it's still an amazing app..Version: 1.4

Could be good. After installing the app it was freezing after only entering a few characters. I shut down my iPad and restarted and now it seems to be working fine. Not sure if it will start freezing again. It's a promising app so hopefully any bugs will be taken care of..Version: 1.3.4

Si far so goodI have been testing for a couple of minutes and so far I believe this is a good program. On the negative side, it desperately needs shortcuts for common php programming characters like <> ? , = on the iPhone as already does on the iPad..Version: 1.6.2

Some features neededThe app works fine, overall i think is worth the purchase. It needs two features: - Font size management (the font is small) - Syntax highlighter (for PHP development).Version: 1.2.1

Yep, this the oneLook no further. This one is pretty good. No SQL server extensions built in but WP (very nice) and MySQL/phpadminlite. Really cool!.Version: 1.4.1

So far so goodNice app. if you want to know what this app is capable of then run their latest addition to it, wordpress locally on the ipad..Version: 1.3.2

Wow.A real PHP install? Wow!.Version: 1.0.3

Er...IOs 6.x + only.Version: 1.0.6

A great toolThis is a great tool in combination with version control to get an existing code base to run locally, make a few changes locally, and upload to test/deploy. Do not expect this to be a robust development platform like on a desktop. It is amazing enough I can run a full install of WP and make specific changes, see them, then deploy them. Major win!.Version: 1.11

Powerful editor ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️If you develop websites, need to code a plugin, create a WordPress theme, and need speed, efficiency, this is the right application! Powerful code editor, with the possibility to run WordPress on iPhone/iPad. Furthermore, you can export your projects in a simple and efficient way. Amazing, perfect and professional! Recommend!.Version: 1.9.5

Great, but not perfectThis is an amazing app and it allows me to code on the go when I’m bored. If there’s one feature that I would need is the ability to transfer my projects between my phone and my computer more easily. There are a few limitations, but that’s due to the iPhone, not the app. Still a great app, totally recommend..Version: 1.8.1

Still blows my mind... please try to add Drupal?I see that it supports WordPress, which is insanely cool! Please try to add Drupal. There is practical use for mobile development. I love this! One suggestion: focus more on the MAMP server, rather than code editor. If you could somehow integrate with Coda or an established code editor for iOS, the possibilities would be endless! My current setup: Prompt 2, Coda, DraftCode. I'm virtually able to do any sort of development now, at any time, and it's an amazing world. Thank you..Version: 1.8.1

Works great on the iPad.I was able to connect the MySQL to my computer through ngrok (tcp 3306) and use my Bluetooth keyboard to code anywhere I had internet. So, not only just great for offline dev..Version: 1.8

Better PHP IDE than a DesktopThis is the type of application that shows the full power of the iOS platform. Running even the simplest PHP code on a desktop machine requires running a web server and all its dependencies. On iOS, all I need is DraftCode and with the most recent update, it is even better. Patronize this developer and keep apps like this in active development!.Version: 1.6.2

Goo app with ways to improveI waited for months before I decided to buy this app. I wasn’t sure if the app does what I need and basically it does some of the things. It actually runs the PHP code even when the file has HTML and/or CSS markup on it. It’s perfect if you are trying a website that use modules or common codes to include those files using PHP. What I will say it needs it’s a way to access a folder in iCloud. You can import the files from the cloud or an entire folder. Now, the changes are saved locally in the app sandbox but no in the original folder in the cloud. If you are working in a project in your Mac you will be able to import to DraftCode but those changes are no synced back to your Mac. Textastic is a good example of how sync files on iCloud. In order to get them back to the cloud, you need to export the project as a zip file. Also, the app is not yet iPhone X optimized..Version: 1.6.7

Really usefulI really like DraftCode. I'm not using it as an IDE; I'm simply using the webserver runtime as an engine for a note-taking app that I wrote. It's a good feeling to be running customized code within the confines of iOS. If you're curious, my app can be installed from my website kylla.info . (The install uses the download zip file suggestion from stackoverflow.) DraftCode is well worth its purchase price..Version: 1.4.1

A solid app that is well on its way!I recently reached a point in my coding work where I need a solid development environment on my iPad and Draft Code fills that need quite nicely. The program is incredibly simple to use and comes with a fully functional installation of PHP that opens up a world of development possibilities on iOS. Howver, it does have some drawbacks. Specifically, there is no reliable FTP or cloud interface protocols built into the program so uploading edited files to my server or opening new projects is a little more cumbersome than it needs to be. If the developer adds Dropbox, OneDrive, or FTP support in the future then Draft Code has the potential to be an absolutely killer app. For now, you will need custom PHP scripts or other apps (I use Readdle's Documents) to upload your files one they are modified..Version: 1.5.4

Very Nice!!I like being able to write coding whenever and wherever I like. I’m a beginner at Php and like having a place to practice. A couple of things I would like to see added. Enable mcrypt in php.ini file and when you update WordPress to 4.3 that it works. One more thing. I would like to send feedback or request for future releases without going thru twitter. Thank you for a job well done....Version: 1.4.1

Local WebserverI don't know if I would call this an IDE as much as I would call it a local Webserver. It's more like a mobile version of MAMP and not so much a mobile version of PhpStorm, however, it does offer you the ability to edit and run your code on the fly. If you get it working with a solid text editor and sync it with a repo or ftp server then you'll be close to building full featured apps without your desktop in no time. Considering I spent $6 on coffee today, this app is a steal!.Version: 1.4.1

A super useful development tool for web apps!Draftcode is a great application for my web development as I can fully code PHP scripts and have them function just like they would on a desktop right from the convenience of my iPad. As far as I know, it's the only development tool on the App Store that makes use of a web server, which makes it great for working on form processing programs. For longer programming, I use a Bluetooth keyboard, which makes typing much faster of course. You can move files in and out of Draftcode easily if you know how to do copy/paste or "open in...". I've also used it for testing scripts using the PHP MySQL functions on databases stored on localhost and on remote hosting, and it works fine. Also, the product support is very responsive and top notch. So if you're looking for an awesome web app development application for your iPad, you should definitely get this one..Version: 1.3.1

GREAT app for serious offline developmentThe app store has only two apps for offline PHP development. I bought them both and I can tell you that DraftCode is the only app that will let you develop professional PHP web apps offline. DraftCode's user interface needs some work. They have a decent extended keyboard but they could use a better one and they lack colored syntax highliting, however if you know what you are doing with PHP this is the app for you. DraftCode has an internal web server (or at least an emulation of that) so you can use most $_SERVER variables and pass $_POST variables between pages, something that the other competing apps do NOT allow you to do. DraftCode also supports JavaScript, CSS and HTML so you can be in total development mode and never need an internet connection. It lacks a way to email the files you created to yourself or to upload them to a server when you do have internet but you can use AirDrop of copy and paste the code from the app to your email program of choice. Again, if you are in need of a serious offline PHP coding solution, get DraftCode and you can get straight to work. The competitor's app is called Kodiak. They have a beautiful user interface but they lack web server functionality so you can't really do any serious coding and anything you do has to be self-contained to one page. DraftCode is the way to go for me!.Version: 1.1

Was hoping for moreThe GUI is okay. No way to increase/decrease font size in codeview. No way to import or export files using sync function. I am pretty sure there is no way to change the php.ini. It does what is promised. I was up and running writing data to a file from a remote file_get_contents in less than a minute. Var_dump is nice and pretty (zend style) Would be nice to be able to play with the php.ini file, and even try different builds of php. A good start. Fingers crossed for more next version.Version: 1.1

Perfect php appI can confirm that the app description matches. What I really like about this app is its ease of use, its comfort, its design !! (really this is exceptional).Version: 1.10

Amazing toolWorth the price, and very simple and easy to use UI. Thank you very much! If the editor had a search function that would be nice..Version: 1.9.1

Super app! Many thanks to the developer. Must have for on the go for anyone into PHP..Version: 1.6.4

Not perfect.Doesn’t fully support iCloud files. It won’t automatically update the file on iCloud, you’ll need to “move” it back. This is the biggest issue I have. Only includes an outdated, discontinued and unsupported version of PHP for the $14 it costs. Demands $7 for a reasonably recent version. Second issue. No swipe gestures throughout the UI, creating slight delays between tasks. Not a dealbreaker but inconvenient. Doesn’t include multiple syntax colour themes independent of the UI theme. No biggie, but you best hope you like their colour scheme. Hmm. Feels half-baked to me. It has SO MUCH potential... Not overly impressed..Version: 1.9.1
