What's New in LeadNav GPS (v6.42)

Group Tracking — Big Updates
• New Teams: organize the people you track into named teams, each with its own color and on/off switch — flip a team on or off to show or hide just those members on the map.
• GoTo a teammate: tap anyone you're tracking and navigate straight to them — it follows their live position as they move.
• Off-screen teammates now show as a color-coded marker at the edge of the map, pointing to them with live distance.
• Faster updates with a selectable update interval and an instant first position when you start tracking.

Performance & Navigation
• Major speed improvements with large GPS files and long, detailed routes — smoother and cooler-running.
• More accurate GoTo guidance — the "come left / come right" direction now points true to your destination.
• Open-terrain GoTo guidance now works at walking pace, not just while driving.
• Voice prompts play in the right order with better timing.

Maps & Markers
• Copy or share multiple markers at once.
• Offline-map fixes and a new Performance setting.

Fixes & Polish
• More reliable group tracking.
• Numerous stability and iPad fixes, including a reliably tappable settings button on iPad mini.

Pro licensing is unclear

Wasn’t totally clear that the 5 seat license claimed by the PRO level licensing is through Apple’s account licensing so be aware that you have to have all of your devices tied to the same appleid in order to use them. Additionally, when the automatic download of apps put the app on my iPad (after I installed it first on my iPhone), it did not recognize the license even if I tried to restore purchases. This might be a bug or quirk with the app getting auto installed on the iPad before I purchased the license. Deleting the app from the iPad and installing it again seems to have fixed the issue in case others run into the same thing. FYI on this nuance for the developer and appreciate they responded to my initial review after a few days so I’ve revised my original post.

Truly impressive software capabilities

I bought a military humvee from the gov auction…like an idiot. It showed up new and so incredibly awesome. I have no experience and no experience, also I don’t know what I am doing. But this machine is so capable it just takes me everywhere. I am too wide for the UTV trails so I get caught in washes and slot canyons. I needed something and started digging around. This software is not only preferred by the hardcore racing teams I know, my new fabricator uses it on his toys, but surprising I was in contact with another gps system developer that uses the same GPS puck thing and they admitted LEADNAV has really provided the best option for in the field off-road route acquisition. It’s insane how even more capable I am now. I had to buy an iPad and learn from level zero, even just simple iPad buttons, but this system has completely changed my quality life. With this software now, We can leave from the house and search out historical landmarks, from plane wrecks to mines, to public hunting cabins. We can load up the kids to search out wildlife tanks, desert springs, Native American grinding pots that I had no idea were all within a 2 hour radius and plan the route in my new humvee to get there. So easy it’s actually fun to do. Lots of online training available, but you could figure it out on your own. AND I have reached out to the developer and received personal replies answering my question fully and guiding me to a more efficient tip, which he didn’t need to do. If you don’t have this software you are doing it wrong. I need to screen shot my master map with like 100 markers and 20 routes that reaches about 50 mile radius. This is a mush have for anyone camping or off-roading. You have no idea what cool stuff is just around the corner. And you can import all the other app trails and overlay them on these maps. This is a game changer. And once set up you don,t need a signal. On a side note: A camping iPad was not really a priority of mine, but now that I have it, I am not mad about that either. It runs my lights and dash cam. Runs my offline stereo library. Has a few movies for road trips or the 3 and 5 yr old to do puzzles on while in the RV. Cant do that on a garmin or fish finder thingy which I also looked into. I bought it for this software but really everything is better once I committed to LEADNAV.

Throw that old Lowrance away

This app has completely changed how I plan my off road adventures. I used it for a 2500 mile Baja adventure, and was able to create daily routes from stop to stop. I do a lot of off roading in the Western US and pre plan my routes with this app. There is a learning curve, but they have great videos on their website to help. I gladly upgraded to the pro version and the $120 per year is a spit in the bucket for the function/features you receive. I raced in several Baja 1K’s and NORRA M1k. I fought with lowrance god units every time. Using an IPad is so much better, and there are SO many more features with LeadNav.

OldBroncoGuyVersion: 5.8.6
Awesome!!

I’ve used this app for well over a year for many things. Yes mapping things out can take some time, but for me that’s not an issue. Off road courses, and rescue plans and options, the fact i can coordinate with other units using this app and be able to see them as well is great. Being able to leave notes on destination or warming/ caution markers is awesome. All around love the app as well as my team loves to use it as well. I work rescue from a busy metro city all the way out to the middle of no where and this app had never left me not knowing where I’m going.

Off-road racing

This application is a game changer and we have been using it for many years in Off-road Racing. Being able to drop a waypoint and voice text what we want it to say makes pre-running way more effective while allowing us to race faster, knowing that we have detailed Way points talking to us along the entire course!

Invaluable tool!

I’ve been using LeadNav for about 4 years now and it’s become an indispensable asset for off-road racing and navigation. While many seem to have jumped on the bandwagon of new apps because of their baked in routes, it’s nowhere near the functionality of LeadNav. I love the route creation feature and the audio cues are a complete game changer for me as a moto racer. Keep up the good work Damien!

Rsmith03Version: 6.13
Simple & Powerful

This platform has been my go-to for years now. Plenty of tutorials that show how to create routes on Google Earth, convert those routes, and import them into LeadNav. You get a lot for the basic app, with plenty of added conveniences with the upgraded versions that make route editing fast.

Aguilar6222Version: 6.30
Great app, slightly outdated UI

This app is well made. Easy to use and good for offline navigating. I use it when going off roaring or traveling outside the US. I find the buttons on screen to be somewhat clunky and instructive. It would be great if you could tap on the map and hide unnecessary things. A minor inconvenience.

Wouldn’t Race without this app

I’m a co driver for KOH, BITD, and SCORE and this is the only GPS system I use. Easy to use and mark hazards and VCP’s. If you are racing this is a must use. Plus every time I’ve had a question it get answer pretty quick via Instagram. Thank you keep up the great work!

PhockerFabsVersion: 6.0
Awesome!!

I was up and running w LeadNav right away on my off road race car and mountain bike but once I went through the vid tutorials I was on a new level. We will forever sure be faster through the course and A LOT safer. ....not to mention it’s a fun system to run.

The BEST navigation app!

LeadNav is the ultimate iOS gps app. Nothing from Racing in Baja to the weekender UTV guy in the desert. The versatility and in app upgrades set it apart, if you are serious about you mapping and navigating offroad this is the ONLY app you need.

The BEST gps app I have used.

Buy it. Pay for the map subscription. Download maps for use offline/no cell service. Know where you are. Build courses. Record tracks. Share via airdrop or email etc. I haven't been happier with an app purchase. Very solid app, with excellent customer service and support. I use this app at least once a month, and recommend it to anyone that is ever off the grid. Such a valuable tool at one tenth the price of a comparable independent handheld GPS unit. I use it both on my iPhone 6+ and iPad Pro. Everyone that starts playing with it on my devices, immediately searches for and purchases it. 5/5 stars. And it will only get better - because the support team actually cares about their user base.

Adammm68Version: 5.5.1
Excellent off-road navigation!

I originally purchased this app to use as a supplemental GPS to my Lowrance unit in my off-road race buggy. However, after using it a bit, and purchasing one of the subscription packs, I think it will become our primary navigation system for the race car. The interface is easy to use. The app works just as fast, if not faster than the Lowrance unit. Setting waypoints is easy. I would definitely recommend this app to anyone who does serious off road racing/driving, as well as the adventurous amateurs. We can't wait to try this app out during our next race!

RickosuaveVersion: 3.5.0
Worth the purchase

Until you have it, it's hard to imagine just how useful it is to have this level of detail and capability in a GPS system. I have a fairly recent GPS device which I've used for quite some time but after using this app I won't be going back. I use this app mainly for boating and love how I can store each track for future use, label hazards and harbor details and always know exactly how to get back to my lucrative fishing spots!

JakeSully25Version: 3.4.1
Best customer service in the business

I am quite surprised. The customer service and dev team are too notch. Unlike most apps they actually care about their fan base and want to make the best app in the market. The app looks good and has a good easy to use feel to it, a must have if your trail running or scouting a new location for off-road. Also has the potential to be quite useful if you work in the oil field. Top notch guys keep up the good work!

Roughneck1989Version: 2.0
Can't believe I just found this app! Blows everything on the market away!

I have been an outdoorsman for over two decades. I have used many gps devices/apps but the functionality and capabilities of this system far exceeds anything I have every used or seen. Take the time to read the tutorial in detail...once you use this app, you'll never want to use anything else. App has my highest recommendation!!!

KfamVBVersion: 3.4.1
Great App & Awesome Support

Hey, LeadNav is a great app and will be really useful when exploring back-country trails. Purchasing and installing the app were simple and fast. I'm still learning the app, so I don't have a lot to comment on about some of the finer points; but, it seems to be very capable. I also want to comment on the great service and support that I have received directly and through the website forum. I know a lot of my questions were pretty basic. The answers I received were quick and well-explained. I also purchased some hardware through the online store. The parts were in stock and they shipped less than a day after placing my order. Highly recommended app and vendor! Jeff

Jeff2016*Version: 5.5.2
Awesome App!

Have used other GPS apps and this one crushes them all. Works whether you have cell coverage or not. Download every detail of where you're going before you head out and everything is accessible throughout your treck. Day or night...deep woods or open terrain...I'll never have to worry about getting lost or not knowing exactly where I am again!!

CaliHillz25Version: 3.4.1
Good and reliable

As I said, good and reliable app. Pricey but offers quality. It seems is the only one with voice guidance for tracks, also. Maybe some small improvements - photos for markers, custom names for the downloaded areas, smaller on screen buttons as zoom, speed etc., they take space. Anyway, me happy user. Good luck to developers.

Nuad-userVersion: 3.2.0
Awesome offroad nav app!

Overall app is very streamlined and user friendly. With a variety of map types available and the ability to store areas for offline use truly makes this app shine when off the grid. Coordinates can be input in advance for geocaching, waypoints, or any other destination. The user interface works great in offroad conditions!

GToffroadVersion: 3.1.0
Where have you been all my life!!!

This is the app to have if you want to have a off road GPS system in your race vehicle like my wannabe trophy truck. I can easily upload any map file and make my changes on the fly. So easy to set up and follow. Who knew that a $20 app can do the job of a $500+ GPS system. Keep up the great job!!!

Rufio_USNVersion: 3.4.1
Best Nav app on the market by far

Started using LeadNav after attending a Baja 500 race in Mexico. I'd never heard of it until I noticed 4 of the 6 starting trucks using it as their primary nav system. An amateur racer myself, now I can see why their using it. 100% situational awareness and unmatched system feedback capabilities. Only wish I had found it sooner.

A constant continuous improvement app. These guys are no joke. Every update has applicable real world enhancements. I've used it off shore, hunting in the middle of nowhere, snowmobiling, even crabbing in the backwaters of the Chesapeake...I simply don't go off the grid without it anymore. Buy the $20 version with map cache capability...well worth it.

Hunter, fisherman, hiker, ATVer

Great for navigating my property. My logging roads are not on any map out there, but now they are in my phone. I can have new hunters come and find their stands every time. There is nothing more annoying then a lost hunter wondering around. Now they get to their stands and take the specified route I want them to take. Thanks!

Finally an iPhone app for off-road mapping!

This has become a game changer for my buddies when we're riding in a new area. Being able to download maps and use them without cell service offers peace of mind in all of the remote areas we ride.

Favorite App on the App Store

This app is great when it comes to biking, riding dirt bikes and just going off road. Also it is extremely useful to figure out where you are, get back to a place, and to just keep on the trail. Going hiking, I love how it tells you exactly where trails are so you don't stray off.

AidanVMWVersion: 3.1.0
Excellent

Great app if you’re the right user. I found it a bit difficult to get the hang of, but once you’ve got it this app is extremely useful and has tons of features. You can do a ton more with LeadNav than is possible with other gps apps. However, if all you want is something basic I wouldn’t recommend.

LeadNav GPS Negative Reviews and Ratings

Poor execution of a good idea

Trying to map out the desert for offline use is a grueling process. Takes a $20 per year in-app purchase if you want satellite imagery. Zooming in beyond your pre-loaded resolution will result in the map rendering itself blank. Marked trails are not able to be overlaid onto the satellite map. Even pre-loading non-satellite maps to show marked routes requires the same process as the satellite maps and has the same issue of zoom/resolution blank rendering. Would require hours of work to preload a large area. I'm sure it's a great app for racers with detailed, planned routes who pay the $150 per year. It's not a good app for weekend warriors / exploring unless you are willing to pay extra and spend hours pre-loading your planned area in small increments.

Quick review

If you’re looking for backcountry application that uses tiles to zoom in and out this application will do that but very poorly better intended for racing preloaded maps and destination or Propack will get you what you need For us outdoorsman and we can avengers probably not the best app for us be sure to read all reviews on there forum You still have to import your own maps leadnav does not come with maps purchase the application for $20 then purchased the advanced subscription for an additional $30 not extremely impressed but I’m out 50 bucks might as well make use of it

Many issues, high cost, low value, look elsewhere

Original review: Among the many flaws of this overpriced app, that should have been addressed years ago, two of the most annoying ones are related to the renewal of your annual subscription and to the overall value of the subscription. 1. Annual renewal: You will be charged but the renewal will not appear on the app and none of the purchases will show as active. Using the “restore purchases” function does nothing in most cases. Over the years, as I renewed the subscription, I have had to delete the app completely from all my devices. This means that all files are deleted as well. You will need to do a fresh download of the app after which you will have to reupload all your files again. This process takes forever as there is no way to upload multiple files at once. 2. Value: the satellite maps were downgraded over the years from high resolution to low resolution maps as the developer switched map vendors. While the maps were downgraded, the cost not only did not go down it actually went up. The advanced package turned into nothing more than a low res off line maps download with no other features. It is outrageous that for the cost of the advanced package you get so little. You cannot even download off road maps along the route. You have to go tile by tile to download these low res maps. Comparing to other off road navigation apps, the cost is super high and the value is super questionable App owner response: “LEADNAV is the professional GPS interface that we needed and dedicated to our smaller group professionals” What??? What does it even mean? Where is this statement in the app description prior to purchasing? Professionals at what? Evidently the owner works with a small group of subscribers and is committed to making the group smaller, much smaller. As far as the rest of the response goes: none of my other off road apps ever had any issues when the subscriptions renews but I guess it’s easy to put it on apple. Also, thanks for advising me to backup my files, seriously??? The downgrade in maps’ quality is mentioned in other reviews.

AFishHeadVersion: 6.21
Not for the casual off-roader anymore

Used to be a great app. I have used it for many years. Now, in order for it to be useful offline, you have to purchase their “pro-pack” for an additional $250/year in order to be able to import MBTile maps that you used to be able to do for free. It seems they have turned their focus to professional race teams and neglect those of us that have been users for years. It’s a shame because it really is a very useful nav app. Guess it’s back to Gaia.

Jeep On The CheapVersion: 5.21
Alphabetical order COLLECTIONS!!!!!!

How is it 2022 almost 2023 and all the files are not alphabetical order. I have over 100 maps and takes forever to pick the correct one. Also make it so we can call out way points in advance. Once you go through all that it’s an ok program. Once that is fixed I’ll pay for the high package.

Bait & Switch

I paid the $20 to be able to upload my own GPX maps and now they’ve taken that ability away and want $250 per year to be able to do what I originally paid for. Not cool. I will be seeking a refund.

Still not sure of the app. Looks nice, but three different iPads and I cant plot a route without the app dumping out of it! Also not sure the price and all the add on's are worth it. Bit pricey. Hope this closing on its own gets fixed or I may need to go back to my Google app which has been extremely reliable so far. Can't see this being that good for military use! The stuff we used was way better.

No metric units

For an app, it is a relatively expensive app and it has in-app purchases to boot. For a pricy app not to have metric units is unacceptable. I use a free GPS app and it has metric unit and I can download map offline for free as well (I have to pay more money and subscribe for off-line map with this app). I was trying your app because it has markers and voice prompt but I guess I will try to have my GPS app designer to add those features. Also no way to contact the devs of this app through their support option
