Sorcery! 3 Positive Reviews

Even betterI went over the four apps in my review of the first book, I’ll just add a few things. This third volume is again exceptionally well done. The story is complex, mysterious, and difficult enough to keep you entertained for hours and hours. Each volume seems to get even better. This one is smart, well-written and incredibly enhanced compared to the original book. This is simply one the best mobile games I have ever played—and undoubtedly the best RPG game on a mobile platform I have ever seen. In fact, it’s the first mobile game I actually advised my friends to buy! As far as I am concerned, it should live in the top ten games in the Apple store..Version: 1.1.1

Found a bugGreat game, I’ve spent hours on it! I did find a couple bugs though. In Elthera’s cave, when you “Look at ropes” it says I’ve found a rope ladder and put it in my pack. But it’s never obtained. Second, there’s random treasures to be found in the swamp, or stolen from Fenestra. All of them only ever give me Jewels of Gold, even though I already have one. They’re supposed to give items one doesn’t already have..Version: 1.1.2

An App Based Game Worth PlayingExceptional storytelling that keeps you enthralled choice after choice. An interactive fantasy narrative with all the classic ingredients you'd expect (magic, exciting swordplay, trolls, goblins, etc.) but with such a fresh uniqueness, I'm only disappointed that I've started with Sorcery 3 and not the first edition. Can't wait to go back and play the others! (And then the 4th!).Version: 1.1.1

Engaging from start to finishAnother very impressive entry in the sorcery series of games. This episode adds a few new mechanics while continuing and refining the systems that work so well from previous versions. Crisp, compelling writing and fantastic worldbuilding make this an experience not to be missed..Version: 1.1.1

Great GameDon't listen to the 1, 2, 3, or even 4 stars. This is the best game I have ever played. The adventure and action mixed with the design is incredible. I have played and completed this game series twice already. However, get the bundle of the sworcery! games or it won't make sense..Version: 1.1.1

Really funThis is a really cool game. Very well thought out. You can tell they took the time to do it right..Version: 1.1.1

Love this series!I find myself thinking about Sorcery! all the time. An amazing series that pulls you into its world and story..Version: 1.1.1

Must get seriesPlease choose this adventure series, it's great.Version: 1.1.1

Horribly addictiveMasterfully built - astonishing..Version: 1.1.1

Love Sorcery my top five phone games!!!I only just began Sorcery 3, as I am still halfway in Sorcery 2 (I beat sorcery 2 but there’s an alternative storyline I really want to attempt before fully immersing into sorcery 3, I can’t wait to fully play through as I have with one and two) More than likely you could play this game ten times over and not see the same thing twice. It’s a very thought immersing, sophisticated, well put together and designed strategy game. The story, characters, lore, the items even are memorable, and the places you have traveled definitely will give you either fond memories or bad memories. Those memories and feelings can change quickly for one event that was previously not explored, or even a spell, or a different conversation can and will result in different reactions. I have so far, gotten through Sorcery One and half through Sorcery two, I did try Sorcery three and stopped to finish the second. I can’t wait to finish them all and play again. You do not need thought provoking applications or memories and brain enhancing apps. Strategy, euphoria, thinking five, six and sometimes well ahead, while being mindful to a common person and just as cautious with what appears benign, but being open to take risks progress you in so many facets and ways in your mind and the game. It is in many senses, almost a game that can be utilized as a very seldom life experience for real life. Always be careful in all situations but live your life and have fun always while listening to all your senses and feelings. Your mind is the present, logic, and memories or reason. Your heart is what guides you and the present moment to always be aware of and follow. Your gut is instinct and the future. Always remember that and it will be understood in time to know if your heart and mind are being tricked by something you can’t see if your gut is telling you no. Or if your gut says yes and your heart is weary is only telling you to proceed guarded but with courage. Always rationalize and never listen to anything but your internal voice. If it doesn’t feel right. It’s not. I guess I’ve been playing this game too much. Well. Back to it. Thank you!!!!.Version: 1.1.2

Really funReally fun, and detailed!.Version: 1.1.1

An oldschool friendI love Sorcery! I had the pleasure of reading the actual books when I was a kid because my mother collected them when they first came out. Enjoyed every moment. They were so much more in-depth than "Choose Your Own Adventure" books and took a more mature approach to things: the story was intriguing, there was so much to explore and you got to act like an actual adventurer casting spells and battling monsters. It felt like a less complicated, single player D&D campaign. Playing this again on my iPhone has been a blast. I love having more visuals to enjoy while roaming about, while inkle still preserved the great original artwork. The "twist" of being able to change the topography with special items is particularly eye-catching. And of course the writing holds up to this day. This series is a true gem and if you're a fantasy fan you owe it to yourself to see these classics glossed up and presented in such a fun format. Something else to note, I've always appreciated that you can play an adventurer of either gender and inkle has retained this option. So often you're stuck playing as a male in other (modern!) games yet here a series decades old was bright enough to offer such a simple yet considerate choice..Version: 1.0.2

Inkle raises the bar for the third time with Sorcery 3It's a lot more than expected with fresh ideas brought to a new gaming genre being developed at Inkle. They've entirely reworked what a digital game book can be. Breathtaking, non linear interactivity and freedom to move back and forth across the land. Perhaps they've gone a little too far as I never disliked the essential linear and canned nature of game books. They've also taken more extensive liberties with the story line then we've seen before. Still I'm impressed with this bold and ground breaking installment. It's now obvious why Inkle required more time to bring this installment to us. I would just suggest a more perfect balance of game / story would dial it back to where you aren't frequently faced with wondering where to go or what to do next or feeling like you're running against a clock. Please note that due to the much more sophisticated 3D map performance is unsatisfactory on older devices such as my iPhone 4. I'm playing on my LG Nexus 5 where it runs flawlessly until I get my iPad repaired. Good: Ever more sophisticated gaming mechanics (spell effect timers, daily status updates, et al) 3D map updates Increasing complexity of spell system (new spells & spell countering) Less Good: A bit too open ended? Too many liberties with original lore? Poor graphics performance Highly recommended!.Version: 1.0.2

Amazing continuation!I bought the Inkle bundle months ago on a hunch that it might be worthwhile. Best game purchasing decision I've ever made. I was instantly hooked onto the Sorcery series, and have been awaiting this game since the announcement. I love it! I feel like Sorcery 3 encourages you to use more spells than the other 2 games (at least the way I played them), and the time mechanic is very interesting. If you love games that draw you in, and don't mind a bit of reading, then I encourage you to get this! One note is that on my iPad mini 2nd gen, the device gets quite warm while playing the game and drains the battery awfully quick compared to the first two in the series. It might be the new mechanics at work or just isn't fully optimized yet. I've had a couple of crashes, but the game auto saves after almost every event, so no worries there..Version: 1.0.2

An immersive textual adventureThere's nothing else like the Sorcery! series. In essence, they're a choose-your-own-adventure fantasy adventure. But playing them is far more exciting than that description suggests. No one does rich, novelistic text-driven games the way Inkle does, and Sorcery! is their crown jewel. Their worlds are so rich that you'll want to play through the series at least twice. Within the series so far, I would rank Sorcery! 2 as the best and Sorcery! 3 as a close second, but all three are 5-star games in my book. Nothing you can play on a touchscreen is as rewarding..Version: 1.0.2

Ups the ante, but only justHaving played Sorcery 1 and 2, I had to get 3. However, two days later I am done with it and have no desire to play it again. While it was not as frustrating as Sorcery 2 with mandatory replays to finish, it has similar issues with some hard to find quest areas. Pros: -The changing environment with the beacons' light -Nice continuity with the first two -More interesting monsters to fight and a few new spells -Swindlestones is back! But another game or some variant rules or handicaps would have been nice. Cons: -Some non-choice decision trees -Too short (to be fair the main story is probably a little longer than Sorcery 2 without the backtracking) -Relatively empty landscape so a lot of your quest is spent traveling, eating and sleeping (and stupid mud trying to slurp up your boots). It's particularly evident when you're running around looking for the last serpent you missed somehow. - The ending is...less than epic. Sure it's not the final chapter, but there's no building to a climax here; just a to do list and a nebulous time limit. So in summary Sorcery 3 is a solid, albeit short, game book. It is a fitting continuation of the saga but if you had problems with previous installments this is more of the same..Version: 1.0.2

Perfect standalone game, landmark seriesI cannot begin to express my awe for this game. It's level of interaction is just unparalleled. I say this because not only can you fully explore the world, but you can also manipulate the map itself with the use of 'time towers', changing the world you walk through. Incredible. My boyfriend and I cannot put the game down. We like putting it on our Apple TV and playing it from the couch. This is an amazing game, and right after I finish this review I'm going to play it through again..Version: 1.0.2

Excellent!!! But not without some flaws. If you're reading this and you have not played the first two games - stop what you are doing and get the first two games now. Just do it - they are amazing. TLDR - buy this game, it is extremely good. This iteration of the series adds some very cool time based gameplay. Also, the interface and interaction feel more polished than the previous games. Other reviews have said that this game feels empty compared to the prequels, but I disagree - the game just has a broader scope I think. It is an excellent game!!! If you liked the first two this one will not disappoint you..Version: 1.0.3

Great but lackluster endAwesome game, ridiculously well made, incredibly well executed concepts, beautiful art. I wish there were more interactive game books like this. The end feels very anti-climactic compared to Sorcery 2, but that's not really the developers fault, just where this section of the story ends. Still, when get to the end of this beautiful, interesting story, be aware that you'll probably think: "That's it? That's the end? Well, that's lame." Regardless, highly recommended if you like this sort of thing..Version: 1.0.3

Amazing!!!!!!This app has a fascinating storyline and an adventure I just couldn't put down. I literally played this app and finished it in a course of 3 days. It has great graphics and the ability to choose what your character will do is exciting. Also, it's pretty fun seeing what your spirit turns into based on your choices. Definitely worth the money, in my opinion inkle deserves more, but it's the best app I've seen in a long while. Can't wait until the 4th one!!!!.Version: 1.0.2

These games are well thought outBut you need to think! Unfortunately some reviewers did not think through even the most basic instructions of the game. The punishment for this is built in and comes in the form of certain inabilities, such as rewinding effectively, or accessing eclectic locations. For people as these (you know who you are) the AppStore has other, more age appropriate games at competitive rates. Do check them out! Please join me in taking stars away until these slackers give us Sorcery4. Blink - just dropped to a 4 ....Version: 1.0.3

Gamebook GloryI loved gamebooks as a kid; I spent a lot of time reading (and playing) quite a few of them. If I had known then what the pinnacle of the art form would eventually look like—this brilliant electronic version of the Sorcery! series—I'm not sure my childhood self would have been able to handle the sheer awesomeness of it at the time. (Of course, the whole concept of smartphones probably would've blown my mind first. But these amazing books-turned-apps would be a VERY close second.).Version: 1.0.2

Couldn't put it downPlayed for hours. Very well done. Improvements over the previous two. I've re downloaded the first two now just to play through with the same character , especially so that I'll have the spell components. I will say that it is infuriating when they get stolen. You also should be able to speed up the guy walking from place to place..Version: 1.0.2

Great game!A little different style of play from the first two, but still an excellent game! Only one crash and everything recovered fine. Because it is more non-linear, the story isn't as "tight" as the others, but still holds up. When I think about the complexities involved in trying to craft a game like this, I would say they did a great job pulling things together..Version: 1.0.3

Crashes but still 5/5Sorcery! 3 and the seven serpents is by far the best out of the three. However I may have to reinstall it since it won't launch anymore. Although I did get plenty of play time in 5 out of 7 serpents beat. This has added and redefined what a game book port can and should be. Also I'm fairly sure the crashes are my device not the game. (iPad 4).Version: 1.0.3

Eats Battery Like No Other!I would be playing this at 100% and by half an hour or so, I'd be down to 75%, give or take. The game is as challenging as its predecessors, along with the new animate map and Beacon puzzles, it is a refreshing take on the entire series! Just be sure your packed to the brim with rations, you only have like four chances to get any food, not counting foraging and finding nourishing moss..Version: 1.0.2

GoodBeen looking for an interesting game that I can pick up on and off when I have a few minutes throughout the day and this one is perfect for that. I wasn't familiar with the series before but I tried it because it was on sale. Liked it enough that I wish I'd played the others first, but it's still enjoyable on its own..Version: 1.0.3

Superb Game! This game was a worthy addition to the Sorcery! series, and improved on it it many ways. Interesting story, lots of different places to explore, beautiful visuals, and fun combat, lead it to be an amazing game. It is definitely worthy of your 5$, but I suggest you play all of the games in order, as they are also amazing games. Thanks inkle for this masterpiece, and I can't wait for the fourth installment!.Version: 1.0.3

Insta-buy material!I have not played the game yet, but I'm willing to bet the $5 I've spent on this game that it will be absolutely fantastic while writing this review and waiting for it to download. The first and second instalments of the series were exemplary on its own right, and I'm certain that the third instalment will set the bar for digital gamebooks above and beyond 80 days and sorcery 1 and sorcery 2..Version: 1.0.1

Hours of enjoyment! This is a great game. I've played all 3 installments in the series so far and have spent countless hours at work reading this and ignoring my job entirely. At $5 a pop it seems like $15 well spent in my opinion. I see a few negative reviews about not understanding the rewind mechanic, it's simple and effective, those reviews should be ignored. Bottom line 5/5..Version: 1.0.3

100% Worth The PriceI played the first the sorcery games and fell in love with the series. After playing a couple hours of this new one I can tell the amount of effort put into improvements. The game might seem expensive for $5 but it's worth it. For the price of a cheeseburger you can get one of the best apps on the App Store and hours of entertainment..Version: 1.0.2

Love it and hate itThe object of the game is simple kill the seven serpents but I cannot pass the mountains separating you from the water serpent I have been playing the game for days (real days) and do not see any conceivable way of winning but the game is cool noneoftheless I suggest buying it after you play the first two and tip (watch out for the red eyes) 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔪💣🔫🚷🚯🚳🚱📵🔞lol I died twice also ask someone who has won how to win.Version: 1.0.3

Amazing as always!I just beat the most complicated book in the series with all 7 serpents dead in just 18 days! I hope others will post their times bellow so that the devs can see the records too! As always amazing work Inkle I have all of your games and have enjoyed them all and am looking forward to book #4..Version: 1.0.2

Surpasses nostalgiaReading fighting fantasy game books when I was a boy is one my happiest memories. Waiting for Sorcery!3 reminds me of those days waiting eagerly for each new novel to come out. Thank you, inkle, you folks have not only honored the original books, but have created a new way to discover these adventures for a new generation..Version: 1.0.2

Superb TwistThis installment is a great upgrade to the first two. The time-traveling adds a great nonlinear element to the gameplay as well as making the world more evocative and immersive. Superb job by Inkle taking the original book and changing it from a meh intermediate step into a haunting place of tragedy and loss. Well done..Version: 1.0.3

Great game, very tough on battery lifeI love the original books in Sorcery series, but Inkle has done better and added terrific touches that bring the story to life! Great additions include: an addictive swindle stones game, and puzzle elements from the beacon towers. 3 star rating because of this bug! The game seriously kills my battery life. A session of sorcery could leave my iPhone 5s uncomfortably hot to hold, and drains my battery in 2 hours..Version: 1.0.2

One of the best mobile has to offerWhat can I say? Sorcery! Is possibly one of the best titles in mobile gaming, and if you haven't tried the series yet and have been looking for an actual game rather than a skinner box, this is the one you should start with..Version: 1.0.2

I hate to read...But this really captivates me! Much better than I expected from a choose your own adventure. There are some extra flavors- battling, drawing your path, graceful music and nice image renderings..Version: 1.0.3

Continued to crashThe game is fun, interesting, and challenges you to think. However, it crashes all the time, most of the time in the middle of a fight. I finally just gave up and continued on to game 4 without defeating all the serpents. Maybe I'll play again if they fix the bug, but until they do I'd skip this installment..Version: 1.0.3

Amazing- Huge world to explore and any new paths. - one of the best 'choose your adventure' books and software. - I do wish the music/sound volume could be turned off in the app..Version: 1.0.2

Good but not the bestReally good game although I liked 2 better since there wasn't as much swindlestones! I only got to play dice once but had the option to talk anout it a load of times..Version: 1.0.2

Can't get past the start?Seems like IPad Mini 1 users can't play without the game crashing and loosing all progress... Hope it's fixed soon! I love this series.Version: 1.0.2

Another Inkle masterpieceThis is the only company whose purchases I will buy without hesitation. All of their games are original, innovative, and engaging. This one is no exception. Buy the whole series, though!.Version: 1.0.2

They've done it again.Absolutely brilliant. I didn't get the best ending on sorcery 2 but I don't want to go back to replay it. So far this is 100% better and I loved part 1 and 2!.Version: 1.0.3

I'm so excited!I've been waiting for this game since Sorcery! 2 arrived. This one is surely the best. With time travel and open world exploration, I highly suggest adding this to your collection!.Version: 1.0.1

FINALLYThe first two games in the series were amazing, and this one is even better! Definitely more than worth the five dollars..Version: 1.0.2

The series keeps getting better! At first, this one doesn't seem as big or as grand as Sorcery 2, but as you explore, there's so much more to find! Since release, the game has gotting significantly smoother, both in running speed and text changes. Big A+!.Version: 1.0.3

CoolFun.Version: 1.1.1

Amazing! It definitely lives up to the first two masterpieces, while bringing some new features to the already perfect gameplay. It's just great and there's not much else to say, just get it already! 😀.Version: 1.0.3

PerfectWaited long for this one and it totally exceeded expectations... The game has so much content & so many choices, and the details are rich and interesting too. Do replay at least once and try some of the wackier spells if you can, more fun that way. Overall this series is about my favorite game of this type, strongly recommend!.Version: 1.0.2

Game is fun but needs some clean-up.Typos in a text-based adventure. Yikes. While I enjoyed the narrative, the exploration process was rather tiresome; there was too much zooming in-and-out, and the character model moved a little on the slow side. I liked that there were different ways to destroy the Serpents--kept things interesting. The spellbook is useful but difficult to navigate; flipping through pages one by one is not an efficient way of finding the spell you need. I ended up ignoring the spellbook entirely in favour of testing out each spell combination in the constellations. These are all technical and rather nit-picky, though. The most important part of the game was the narrative, and I personally had a lot of fun figuring out different ways of defeating enemies and navigating conversations..Version: 1.0.3

Not as good as the first twoSorcery! and Sorcery! 2 are great, but Sorcery! 3 really put all the great efforts to waste. Unlike the first two, this one features a lot of shoddy game design, such as secnarios where no matter what you choose the outcome is the same (and bad!) or the fact where you can only have one of two paths open, except one requires that the other is also open! The whole setting itself is also very lame, a near-barren wastleand for starts and several uneventful location points. Stick to the first to and stay away from this one..Version: 1.0.3

Pumped!!I've been waiting for this game for months! Such an epic story to continue. Glad I have a 5s to play based on the other reviews.Version: 1.0.2

GreatTruly inspiring experience..Version: 1.0.2

Awesome but crashyLove the game. Crashing a bit on the iPad 2 and iPhone 4s. Thankfully saves constantly but annoying. I'm a huge fan of this series, you guys rock! Can't wait to see what else you guys come up with..Version: 1.0.2

It's finally out!Nough said.Version: 1.0.2

CrashingLoved one and two was enjoying 3 too. That is until it constantly started to crash can't play the game .. So not too pleased one might say..Version: 1.0.2

Pleeeease?I've liked all the inkle games I've played, and have been waiting months for this game to come out. I was hoping it would be as good as the other games. Well, it is. Sort of. The constant crashing really takes away from the gameplay. Please please pleeeease fix this!.Version: 1.0.2
