Now in their 11th year as a mobile app, and their 13th online, the Wise Pilgrim Guides are the go-to source of up-to-date information on the Camino de Santiago.
The app is updated regularly with new content and new features and offers you the ability to leave tips for pilgrims following behind you.
This guide covers the Camino Portugués and its three most common variations; the Central Route, the Coastal Route, and the Variante Espiritual. It has been redesigned and now works almost exclusively offline (to share your comments with others will require a data connection). As more an more albergues share their WiFi this becomes less of an issue, and the guide will tell you which ones offer WiFi.
Accommodation Directory:
A full directory of Albergues, camping, hotels, pensions, paradors, and cases rurales. Over 400 in total, with special attention to those that can be booked online.
Stageless Guide:
No more "stage anxiety" or guide created bottlenecks.
Maps:
Offline and online versions of a beautiful topographical may will give you a good view of the terrain ahead.
Photos:
Photos of albergues, monuments and other points of interest along the way. Currently 400+ images and growing.
Scrollable Elevation Map:
This one is hard to show with just a screenshot, but the elevation that appears at the top of every city page scrolls East to West. One complete elevation, from St. Jean Pied de Port to Santiago, uninterrupted by page folds.

Promising but broken.A few points to start. I used it. It worked to get me through the Camino. I’m comparing it to the unfortunately defunct Camino Ninja app. The most annoying bug is that it won’t zoom to your current position without crashing. At least on my phone. If this had behaved better, I wouldn’t have been quite as annoyed with the app, especially after paying for it. I was constantly having to select my route and scroll for a ridiculous amount of time to find my position. There’s some inconsistency in links within the app. Sometimes clicking the elevation profile brings up the profile for the wrong route. Selecting a town on the map doesn’t seem to display a list of accommodations there, while selecting it from the list-view of the route does. There really should be a better way to visualize stages. Being able to select a desired end point using current position (or closest official point to current position) and visualize elevation, distance, and services only along that stretch would be better. Again, it worked. I guess I got my money’s worth. Still a bit disappointing though..Version: 5.7.6
Missing info?Hi Michael, I love your apps, but with the Portuguese Coastal route it appears that there is something missing as Vigo isn’t there though it talks about getting through Vigo and the detail ends with Castrelos Park (though there this no detail either only the kms info). Am I missing something? Should I be switching to another section? Thanks!.Version: 5.5.1
Great for Portuguese Coastal and LitoralAbsolutely loved this app for navigation on the Portuguese coastal/Litoral Camino. Was spot on for navigating 99%. Not that this would be a difficult route to navigate by simply following the arrows and signs most of the way, but there were several times, especially in larger towns and cities that the app was very useful for not getting lost. Loved that it combined the coastal and Litoral routes. Also very good for the Spiritual Variant, which I highly recommend. Only used this for Navigation, and there are other resources for other info..Version: 5.7.4

(RESOLVED) App won’t open on my new iPhoneDownloaded Apr 27, 2018. When I tried to open it on my iPhone X it immediately closes. I read another review saying to open it 3-4 times in a row. After that it opened and now it works. This needs to be fixed. Also no way to contact the developer except through this review. That’s why it gets 4 stars. Now that it is working, it has lots of good information I will be using on my Camino in May..Version: 2.2.10
Good but Elevation maps seem incompleteThe elevation maps have no Y-axis!? The profile is given, but there’s no way to tell the change in elevation height; no measurement is given. I have the Wise Pilgrim app for Finisterre and the change in elevation IS meters shown on the maps. Without it the map is not very useful-showing only relative height, which make it impossible to tell if something is just a dip or a mountain. I love all the details and the ease of access. It would be great if there were a way to mark and “favorite” any sites or even Albergue! Otherwise there is no way to anticipate And any work reading or planning ahead is lost over forgotten..Version: 4.1.1
Very helpfulWhile this app is very helpful, no one source should be your guide. I use three different sources for guidance. The map function was very helpful on the Frances route putting me back on the route while in a large town. I believe this app should be part of your journey..Version: 3.0.5
Great for Portuguese section of the CaminoThis app and the Off-line maps were a fabulous resource for our Camino trip. We used it extensively and appreciated being able to know that we were on the right track when arrows were sparse..Version: 3.0.4
Awesome App!Used this during Porto to Santiago and it was quite helpful to help with the mileage. Right now, I can’t seem to get to the Spirtual Variant Section. It does not show up on my IPad even after reloading it..Version: 4.0.8
Online maps is not working!! **update!I am a few days into my Camino, and the online maps are no longer working. I've depended on this app so far. I've deleted the app, and re downloaded-- but no luck. I don't see how to contact the developer to ask if it is going to be fixed. Could really use some support!! Normally love the app! I will change my rating when it gets fixed. **maps have been down for 24 hours. I checked my Frances Route app I purchased from Wise Pilgrim, and the maps work fine. But obviously you can't see the Portuguese Route on the Frances app. I'm disheartened that there is no way to ask the developer what's going on. And that the app has been down for 24 hours. (That really matters when you are on day 5 of the trail). Update: got ahold of the developer and he is promptly fixing the issue. He found the bug, and has submitted it to Apple. Hopefully they move quickly!.Version: 2.2.9
Fantastic AppInvaluable tool for my Camino Portuguese. I love the “breadcrumbs“. When used with my location they guided me with confidence. I also used Wise Pilgrim to walk the camino in reverse back to Porto. It worked flawlessly. Especially helpful are the links to the various accommodations. Made making a reservation a breeze. Portuguese CaminoOn first impression, this looks like a good resource, both to prepare for, and to bring along and use while walking The Portuguese Way. On initial read, I found the author’s approach of blurring the Coastal Route - Caminho da Costa with that of the Seaside Route - the Senda Litoral, a touch confusing, as they are in fact two separate routes. The historic coastal Portuguese route, dating back to the 1700s, is the Caminho da Costa which is different from the more touristy and newer seaside route known as the The Senda Litoral. I do however appreciate the significant work that went into compiling a massive amount of information into a visually appealing format. Buen Camino! Happy Trails!.Version: 2.2.10
