AUM - Audio Mixer App Comments & Reviews

AUM - Audio Mixer Positive Reviews

Finally Found My Favorite iOS WorkflowI’ve been doing iOS music for many years. People always raved about AUM, and used it in videos. I held off for awhile using other DAWs/Hosts that were great for me at that time, but never quite perfect. As I learned more, and the development of apps progressed, I began to see the value of AUM and finally purchased it. I hate to use buzzwords, but it was a complete game changer for my workflow, my music production, and my songwriting. The app has stepped up my game and helped me learn so much. It’s just brilliant in so many ways. It lets you pick and choose the pieces you need, in a very open and creative way, instead of feeling like a closed workspace. It’s super stable, great gui, great built in fx & features. There’s also been several amazing updates that continue to make this the best app for music production on the App Store. Not sure where my music would be without 3.5 years of daily AUM usage. I can’t sit here and say it’s for everyone because workflow is a personal choice, based on feeling comfortable, creative, and being able to do the things you want to do. I will say this app can basically do everything. It completely revolutionized my music making, and made so many things “click” for me. I can’t recommend this app enough. My most used app, hands down. 10 Stars!.Version: 1.4.0

Still UnmatchedFor nearly a decade I’ve been doing sound design and composing music using my iOS devices. While at first a lot of that was out of curiosity and for my own amusement, its become a viable professional platform in the last few years. One app has been a constant through almost all of that time, AUM. I can’t even imagine what doing sound work on iOS would be like without this app having been made. The developer has also done a phenomenal job of staying close to the community, listening to feedback and continually improving the app over the years. It has only gotten better and more incredible. Now there is Logic for the iPad but they aren’t the same thing and aren’t mutually exclusive in any way. I really kind of wish there was AUM available for macOS so I could just work in the same way. Regardless, its absolutely essential imo and worth every single penny. A big thank you to the dev. I see you man, big ups for all your work..Version: 1.4.5

The one essential music appWhat is AUM? At first it looks like it’s merely a mixer. But it’s simplicity belies it’s immense power. That’s good app design. But as you explore the app you realize it’s so much more than just a mixer. It’s the glue that binds all of your audio apps. Keeping them all on time and in sync. It works with your midi hardware, your midi software and best of all these amazing AUV3 apps which include special effects and virtual synthesizers and drum apps and really everything. If theses apps are well designed AUM let’s you easily route things to them, like midi messages and LFOs and sequencers. It’s quite literally the Rosetta Stone of audio apps. To say it’s indispensable would be an understatement. Best part the developer is super active in his community and fixing bugs. This app is in active development. This is a no brainer purchase, worth every penny. If you wondered how to make mobile music or take your music to the next level, look no further. This is it!!!.Version: 1.3.11

Stands in a class of its ownI rarely write reviews. I detest being nagged for a review in apps. I also buy and try many apps, not many stick around for a long time. not the case with AUM. I’m primarily a live guitarist, and this app has been the heart of my rig for almost a year now. it’s amazing what it can do, and with plugins on the iOS platform, the only limit is my imagination. I have an 11” 2020 iPad Pro, and I have never gotten the CPU meter consistently above 45% - ever. and I have come up with some pretty crazy setups, running two discrete guitar signals live. the MIDI flexibility is amazing as well. coupled with Ableton Live running on another computer on the network, my entire show is automated. it’s amazing - and it’s all because of AUM. there’s simply nothing else like this on the app store. if you’re a mobile minded musician, stop wondering already and get this..Version: 1.3.10

A Must Have For Music Makers! The best yet,AUM draws the elements of the iOS music world together seamlessly and makes music creation a joy. The experience has been a pure pleasure and I’m blown away by how much I can get done on my iPhone. I’ll have Korg Gadget, Bias Amp and several synths and drum apps as well as audio in via usb mic or guitar DI, and Bluetooth midi controller and keyboard all going in a session. I don’t really need to fire up the DAW too much, I still love Propellerheads Reason but AUM along with Gadget and Auria Pro is just so dam fast to fire up and start recording whatever idea I have at the moment. Incredibly powerful and inspiring, the software gets out of the way, I don’t want a computer around when I’m tracking, always hated it,hate looking at a big screen and waveforms, so this interface is for me much better than anything previous I’ve used. I love it! AUM and AudioShare are must have tools..Version: 1.3.3

My Essential Performance PlatformI’ve been creating ambient electronic soundscapes for more than 30 years. My tools have evolved from massive modular analog systems to Virtual Analog hardware to, now, iOS. AUM is the tool that has allowed me to seamlessly layer a multitude of sound sources, effects, and complex systems in real time. It offers a surprisingly comprehensive set of audio routing tools, and a vast midi toolkit, all coded with rigorous efficiency and skill. The design is simple and clean, and the functionality intuitive. Also, Jonatan, the developer, is remarkably engaged with users, and is constantly improving and updating features and functionality. Because the feature set is vast, I strongly encourage you to read the User Guide, and watch one of the many great tutorials, to make sure you understand whether AUM can meet your specific needs..Version: 1.3.11

Great app but not so practical....yet.This app would be so cool if you set it up as a live performing app. Every live keyboard player knows that you do not have time to turn down the volume knob on one patch and then turn up another patch. Last time I did that was with my arp quadra in 1979. Since the early 80’s we’ve simply pushed a button which gives us the next sound. So if I have to play horns for 2 measures, strings for 2 measures and organ for two measures I simple push ( for example) button 4, 1 and then 3(or however the patches are set up) When you are performing live you have no time to think about pulling levers down and up, you just want to push the next button, preferably larger than the itty bitty solo button on your App. I understand that AUM is set up as a mixer, I get it. And It is a brilliant app. I love what it does. But AUM could do for the iPad what main stage has done with the computer. Make it usable on the gig..Version: 1.2.5

The Best There IsYou can try others, but this is where you want to be if you are running any type of mobile rig. I found my happiness with this app, my instrument apps, an Novation Audiohub 2x4, a korg nanoKontrol2, and any keystation you’d like. I map different apps to different faders, and any parameter i want to. What makes this app so powerful is the fact that I can map any control value or anything via usb midi. And it just works. So good. Thank you for an amazing app! Keep up the great work! Only thing I wish was different was that I could have landscape and be able to zoom out to get some visible reference to when I control values on my interface. But it works great the way I have it too. 🤘🏼👍🏼.Version: 1.2.5

Game-changer for live performanceThis is incredibly useful for running a live performance keyboard set up from an iPad. I am new to this, and it is working super well. In conjunction with MidiFire and MidiFlow, I am able to achieve everything I need to between programming various MIDI controls and routing and controlling audio. Maybe I could’ve done it all in one program, but I know how to use those other two, and I find each better at certain things. Some apps display a little better than others in here- Korg Module is too zoomed in, and I can’t seem to access the velocity curve setting, although I can modify that from outside MIDI apps..Version: 1.4.3

Next level!I usually don't write reviews but I had to make an exception with this one! simply put: connect anything to anything, audio or midi, brilliant graphics and ui, it's been a long time since an app made me this happy, I run it on a old iphone 4s with tonebridge and a bunch effects, 3 channels, guitar and bass and aux with recording on a NI Komplete Audio 6 card and runs like a charm with cpu to spare, guitar rig and effects on the budget better than hardware.... on my iPad air (first gen btw) I mix and record a whole live band, guitar, bass, mic, 3 synth apps, effects just with AUM, everything in 24bit 48k, crazy how far technology has come and creative programing can take it! thank you! mind blown!.Version: 1.2.5

Always the bestI own pretty much every audio production app/synth/effect/midi/blah blah, but AUM is what brings everything together for me, including my analog synths, guitar, and drum machines. Audiobus is great but no recording, and Cubase is great but no midi control... AUM does everything that other apps cant do or do poorly, and all in one. This would be the last app I delete. I use this for both recording external instruments, and iOS synths, and I can’t see anything that my pc does better as far as the recording process. Simple, ergonomic, the GUI just makes sense. You need this. And to the guy complaining about the size of the solo buttons, have you heard of a midi controller?.... heh.Version: 1.2.6

Like water to fish. Like air to birds.AUM is essential. Why are you still reading this? AUM IS iOS music. If you’re making music on iOS, AUM is core to your creative workflow. Sure, record to a DAW later to master it, but AUM can do that too. DAWs are for perspiration; AUM is for INSPIRATION. AUM is like alienware: a paradigm shift that was almost perfectly designed at inception. Flexible, freeing, fast, fun, and stable as a rock. A big rock. Why are you still reading? AUM should cost 10 times more. Do you like air? What would you pay for air? Get your music unstuck out of the DAW mindset. This app changes everything. Set your music free..Version: 1.3.9

Brand NEW ios musicianI am brand new to making music on iOS and have been fumbling around and doing research in all realms and finally came upon AUM being something that every musician should have… the more I use it the more I discover… I originally thought it was just a random mixing app but it is much much more… it has become the glue that holds all of music apps together in one convenient place… once you get past the initial learning curve you be be pleasantly surprised again and again when you unearth more and more features….Version: 1.4.2

My main music making appDespite having an obscene amount of all sorts of music production apps ranging from countless synths, all major iOS DAWs and down to obscure effects and arpeggiators, there is no app in my amateur wannabe music producer’s arsenal that enjoys the same level of use and love as AUM. Ironically, i wouldn’t even get it if it wasn’t for all the raving it gets on forums and in music oriented social media groups. Now, i can’t even imagine any music making effort i attempt on my iPad without AUM being its cornerstone. Had it for almost two years now..Version: 1.3.11

Easily The Best, Easily 5 StartsWrote this review a few years ago, and in 2021 it’s the same sentiments, ESPECIALLY THE MIDI CLOCK IN. I guess the ability to restore last deleted channel is a step closer to UNDO button. “Been using this for years, and it’s a well-thought-out app. Tiny footprint for the large chest of features. UX is brilliant, especially with the new midi channels. However... I'd really love to see an UNDO button. Also, please allow midi clock in. Other than that, keep up the great work.”.Version: 1.3.11

AUM changed my iOS lifeI do a lot of live performance using my iPad as a plugin host with a MIDI (wind/breath) controller. AUM is an indispensable part of my setup, absolutely essential. It allows me to configure and save my instrument and effects plugin chains and setup customized MIDI control routing with the various apps. AUM allows me to use my iPad in the same way I setup these kind of patches on my laptop host. Being able to run this kind of setup on my iPad is a huge bonus, since it’s more portable than dragging my laptop rig around..Version: 1.3.11

Great and Awesome/Special to us app - but 14.5 broke Link!!!Dev, Could you please take a look at the latest IPad IOS update 14.5? We have never had an issue syncing with Ableton and our modular rig using AUM, but since this “important” update it seems our ability to use Link has been broken. Sorry to bug you… thank you for the joy this app brings us everyday… just wanted to know if it’s a known bug, or if you could look into it. Thanks so much!!! Peace :) Steve and Karly - Instagram-Altruit.Version: 1.3.9

Really nice to use and as deep as you needI usually do write reviews and AUM, to me is the shi-i-it! It blows my mind to use it and everything just works as smooth and glossy as high-end feels. It was hard at first to wrap my mind around the best use but I throw samples and loops at it effecting them with au and other plug ins and set up synths and drums triggered by midi. AUM acts as a digital console and on a 2017 iPad 128 I have not been able to max it out as far as tracks and massive sound are concerned. It truly is ausome and worth every penny..Version: 1.3.1

Great App, with 1 weaknessGreat app, pretty much an essential on both my IPad and using IPad apps with my desktop, it’s an amazing mixer for all my iPad instruments and affects and then some. The only weakness is that it doesn’t receive midi sync, which is pretty sad. For instance Id love to be able to sequence my hardware synth with my MPC and record them into AUM and have AUM wait for a midi sync signal to start recording. I wish the developer knew how amazing that would be , but every app has at least on major flaw. Other than that it’s amazing..Version: 1.4.3

AwesomeI spent , rather I wasted, a month and a half fighting with another companies Audio/MIDI mixer finally gave up on that and purchased the AUM I was up and running in five minutes and the functionality is incredible, it has not sucked up any CPU or crashed because it’s using too much CPU unlike some other audio midi bus which would peak at 350% (!!!) CPU randomly I deleted the other companies product from my iPad.Version: 1.3.10

IPad Musicians Friend For Life!!!I have used this app since like 2016 I think and as my iOS music apps library grows this app becomes a mainstay especially at a live gig when I’m doing auxiliary keys, key bass sometimes clicks and stems using one or two iPads simultaneously and seamlessly holding things down sometimes by myself AUM has made me look like the smartest guy in the room especially during social distancing and the halting of most live performers. Thx for being useful..Version: 1.3.5

Re: the “Change the name to wormwood” guys reviewAUM isn’t really that complicated. Is there a learning curve? You bet. I don’t understand how anyone that spends 15 minutes learning this fantastic app doesn’t see all the benefits. What are you even doing. Anyways, it’s an incredible app, I’d even go so far as to say it’s essential if you want to do more that simply play synth apps one at a time w you usb keyboard. So good! Thanks, K!.Version: 1.3.11

Glad I finally got it!I delayed buying this for a long time, and then one day just got it out of curiosity. I just didn’t think I needed it because I like to record everything I play, in case I come up with something interesting. The things I love about AUM are: - it’s got such a clean UI, - super intuitive to use, so it’s the fastest app for making music - Excellent project management with folder creation and alphabetical ordering - Efficient and reliable I use AUM with Xequence 2, and that’s all I really need to compose MIDI tracks. The two apps feel so professional, with attention to little details, and incredibly smooth workflow. Both really shine on this touch platform. Highly recommend this perfect combo! Edit: Thanks so much for updating the AU/IAA icons!!.Version: 1.3.6

IndispensableThis app takes a lot of reading the manual, research, and experimentation, but it is powerful to the highest degree. I use it in conjunction with Xequence, and I’m able to control playback and recording of almost any aspect of production. Used in conjunction with Audiobus3 and Auria Pro, it provides a solid basis for post-production work. I can’t imagine anyone who is serious about using iOS for making music NOT having this app!.Version: 1.2.5

Help!!I love this app to use with my iPad but now it stopped working and says the audio engine isn’t on. I’ve uninstalled it and reinstalled and still have the same problem. Is this an iPad issue? GB and Cubasis 3 and the other apps are working fine. Any suggestions? Also, I wanted to contact you on the website but it says it’s not secure???.Version: 1.3.10

Amazing, but lacks a couple key features for me…This is truly my go to app for music, except when it comes to more complex and rehearsed shows. The key feature it lacks is scenes within sessions and a set list feature. For those I use Keystage2. I would much rather use AUM though. AUM just looks so much better and is great live when I have more liberty to improv. Please add scenes and set lists, please please please. Thanks for an amazing app!.Version: 1.3.10

Best App for Live Playing, but please add a few features..I love this app for live playing. It is the best to just get the ideas to flow. It’s so easy and simple to use.. But please add these features: 1. Being able to save all the plugins on a specific channel, so that you can for example, load up a guitar rig channel and maybe a bus channel for reverb. 2. Being able to freeze the channels that are loaded with heavy plugins. 3. Being able to set how many bars that you want to record, because if you don’t press stop right on the dot, if you loop a recording, it will gradually get off beat. 4. Being able to use GarageBand as an inter app plugin because they have the best acoustic drum sounds. That’s all I can think of so far. Please consider adding these features..Version: 1.3.8

You need thisI’ve had AUM for about 2 years now, I use it every day just about. Always can find an answer to what I need to do, best app for quick jams or coming up with concepts on the fly using all of your auv3 apps. The multiout works fantastic, never an issue. This is. A must have for any serious iPad music producer. Get it today..Version: 1.3.11

Please, iPhone Landscape mode please 😭AUM is a beast, there is no need to be specific the ratings speak for themselves - it’s either this baby, ApeMatrix or Loopy (at least for me), all other “DAWs” (not that these are “DAWs”), simply cannot compete. Regardless, AUM has had this “flaw” for years now, I’ve been asking for an iPhone landscape mode and I simply cannot imagine I’m the only one - AUM on iPhone is kind of a pain to handle (constantly needing to rotate the device is honestly an experience killer). Please consider adding landscape mode for once and for all - it would be greatly appreciated. As for everything else - AUM is TOP DAWG for real. Enjoy it - trust me - you will!.Version: 1.4.3

Essential App for iOS Music MakersThe most essential app for iOS music production in my opinion. Beautiful intuitive UI with great attention to detail. Tons of functionality and constantly updated. Modular design that allows you to build your own custom workflow. Pretty please just add Midi clock in and this would put it in GOAT status for me..Version: 1.4.4

Must Have for Live PerformanceAUM isn’t a traditional ‘old skewl’ DAW….. it’s a futuristic workhorse that let’s you create sounds; both for live and recorded purposes. It hosts a myriad of AUv3 plugins that let you sound-sculp live and generated sounds of all kinds. I use it in live performances with my violin. I have different “patches” and can MIDI control AUM to switch between them as needed..Version: 1.3.11

Amazing Audio routing and mixing app.I wrote a longer review twice but my iPad kept closing the window and erasing it. So I’m gonna be brief. Buy this app if you are even considering it, amazing workflow capabilities and awesome dev who obviously cares about improving their software! 20 bucks is nothing for this level of functionality..Version: 1.4.5

An amazing iPhone app for musicians! It’s crazy how sophisticated and powerful iPhones have become. I remember having to manually program drum machines in the 80s, only being able to do midi on macs in the 90’s, barely being able to do multitrack recoding on PCs in 2000s. Now all of that can all be done on your iPhone using AUM - an app that glues sequencing, third party synths/effects into an integrated host. AUM is definitely a well designed and high quality piece of audio software (that’s coming from a guy that has been a musician and software engineer for over 25 years). Not to mention at a great price!.Version: 1.4.4

The best and really easiest app for live use with an iPadAUM is a must have app if you want to use an iPad live. The ease of use. MIDI implementation, and ability to layer and structure channels, stack keyboards, and sync tempos is phenomenal. It’s taken my bands live show to another level. About as flexible and easy to learn as one could want. Just fantastic..Version: 1.4.1

This app is awesome. The mixer is the best I've found and the ability to create Send channels is immensely useful. The only problem I have is that if you try to use iOS11's Screen Capture, it only records the audio from the first app you load. Everything loaded after that outputs silence. Great job on an otherwise excellent product..Version: 1.2.1

BestIm using this on small live performance, and i must say its fest light and reliable. But one thing i wish it shuld be, to be able to route evry Channel to evry out how much i wont so i can use it for monitors etc (maybe to get matrix out ). also the solo mode i should be able to hear evry track on solo without changing the main mix thanks.Version: 1.3.8

Keeps Getting BetterI really can’t say enough how much I appreciate this app and the developers continued support, personal responses, and ingenuity in implementing new features! It’s become totally integral to my music making and playing and opens up new possibilities all the time. Thank you so much for your work and passion!.Version: 1.3.4

New update is a game changer. Amazing work! Now you can swipe right on any plugin or synth and see individual CPU usage and how many ms it adds to your signal. Helping you decide which ones are worth keeping in your signal chain and workflow. Thank you for the hard work!.Version: 1.4.0

IPad Pro upgrade...Please.I absolutely love this app. It just needs an upgrade for the IPad Pro so it can do split screen with other apps. I am currently using Audiobus 3 for live applications when I need to see the chord sheet and be able to change/adjust sounds on the fly. Thank you for such a great app..Version: 1.3.7

Crackling soundsBought the app like a week ago. I have 6 channels in total with some effects added in 1 or 2 channels. There are crackling sounds time and again which causes some lag between the channels’ tracks in the final mix. Please fix it. Or is it only on my iPad mini 5 that is not able to handle the throttle?? I’m running iOS 13.6.1. DSP shows above 50 and goes up to 128 when the crackling happens..Version: 1.3.7

Astounding! This really is an amazing framework for music-making in iOS! It provides incredible power by handling AUv3, IAA, Audiobus, and even sound file; by recognizing the (class compliant) MIDI hardware you’re connected to and all managed in a clean and innovative UI. If I sound like I’m gushing, I am, because this app is the proverbial “game-changer”!!.Version: 1.3.9

LFOs is all we needEveryone who makes music on iOS needs this app. Thank you so much for all your hard work in developing AUM. I only ask for one more thing; built in LFOs for all the app parameters. Please consider this. Thanks again..Version: 1.4.1

Powerful and intuitive!I found this app powerful and intuitive. Easy to get started with, with plenty of features under the hood, when you ready to dig a little deeper. My biggest challenge is learning how to use all the apps I plug into it..Version: 1.2.5

Indispensable for musicians! If you don’t have it......you should!!! It gets used almost every day around here. Wonderful app. Absolute must-have along with AudioShare. Kymatica apps are some of the best iOS music apps available..Version: 1.4.1

Love this app but some bugs latelyBeen using this app for years but using midi with the app causes app the to crash or the midi is inconsistent. Also crashing more often over the last few months. Still love the app.Version: 1.3.9

I don’t what’s going onI want to use a DAW. I’ve got loads now - Zenbeats/Cubasis3/Beatmaker/Auria/Auxy/GarageBand... but. Whenever I want to play music my finger automagically opens AUM instead. I really have to force myself to use the others rather than this. The only reason that I ever have a debate is because of the lack of timeline editing -but Imaginando’s LK and 4Pockets Multi-Track fix those deficiencies. AUM is the perfect host for AUV3/MPE workflows..Version: 1.3.8

AUM makes magicIf you make music on iOS, aum is a must have. It’s a playground for over 1000 auv3.Version: 1.4.5

If you love AudioShare…You will adore AUM. In fact the two play so well together it’s insane..Version: 1.4.5

Wow, Turns my iPad Pro into a live InstrumentThis app is serious. With all the great virtual Instruments for iPad this harnesses it and turns it into an ultimate live module situation. Game changer!! This can make expensive keyboards obsolete..Version: 1.4.1

Have an idea..I love AUM, it is my go-to daw and I appreciate the update.. I am curious to know if it is possible in the future to access the project notes from the session title? It would definitely help me to know what IAA’s to open ahead of time for faster load time, among other things. Thank you..Version: 1.4.0

Love It! Want More from it!…Love all the other great reviews. I have nothing to say that is negative about this app and it’s creator. All the same I would like to see more Dj style features included! May I suggest an actual crossfader channel that is preconfigured to operate like the variable cross fade on a Dj console! we need a touch fader that will do the task so that one does not need to hook up a controller; this would be especially useful on the iPhone! I have seen only three examples of how to do crossfade in AUM . … my other desire is to make it work with zoom audio sharing! The only app I found so far that is able to play audio through Zoom is “Beatime” which is awesome at what it does. P.S.: I think it is worth every $$$ and is a unique beast in the Metaverse! All love; all the time — give me more; pretty please😍🫵🏾.Version: 1.4.0

THE APPGreat app - works as advertised, solid performance, responsive developer, great community support, easy to understand well written manual and it’s future looks bright. Have questions ? Not understanding something about the app ? Reach out in more effective ways than leaving a bad review..Version: 1.3.11

Indispensable for iOS music makingEvery session I do with my iPad including hardware synths starts with AUM. It is the essential tool for recording and midi management. Top notch programming with so many fantastic and useful features. Don’t hesitate to add this incredible tool to your music making..Version: 1.3.11

Most Important App for musiciansI first reviewed AUM 2 years ago and refresh it every so often when it hits me how bloody amazing the app is. I want to thank Jonatan, the developer, every chance I get without being obnoxious. He keeps tweaking and adding features to improve an already perfect mixer. The routing capabilities makes this app over the top mind blowingly perfect. There is also the fact of having tons of little things to make you often think "WHAT, it does that too!" Jonatan tweaks when something comes to his mind that he knows will be appreciated by us. It's not like he makes a list of nice to haves and spreads out their addition to be able to regularly add one to make it look like he is doing something. He adds things as they come to mind. AUM is one of those music making apps for ipados/iOS that every one of us must have. I just can't say enough. I smile a lot every day because of the fun i have using AUM. It's just that great. Hey, if you want to ask for a feature, contact the dev by email. Don't take stars off the review to push for things. That will just lower the rating, and gives a dishonest evaluation for you to get something. Not fair to the dev and not fair to other musicians who could get a lower collective opinion. The rating is to communicate how good or bad an app is to help users decide which apps to choose. Just send an email and start a dialogue with the dev to make suggestions etc..Version: 1.3.7
