Ceiling Fan Balancer Positive Reviews
I’m amazedFirst time writing an app review - I just had to for this. I’ve been trying to balance my ceiling fan on my own for hours and just couldn’t figure it out... trial and error over and over again. Asked myself “I wonder if there is an app that can help”. Found this app and figured for .99 I’ll give it a shot. I followed the instructions and it identified blades 1 and 5 to put weight on. It also specified the distance from center to put those weights. It immediately improved the shake but not by a degree that I wanted. My ceiling fan might not by like typical ceiling fans, there is a lot of weight to it. So I added additional weights and moved it a little further back than the suggested distance and it eliminated all wobble. Only giving 4 out of 5 stars cause it’s not “perfect” but it tremendously helped me identify how to better balance my fan. Highly recommend anyone to give it a shot..Version: 2.1
Good lighting was key to it registering4.5 Stars really. This app has saved me many hours of fiddling with getting fans balanced. I read the reviews and instructions and the right lighting was key to it registering the movement. I replaced 6 ceiling fans in our house. Prior to finding the app, the first fan took over an hour to balance, then I tried using my phone to take a slow motion video to track the shifting, which was a good idea that didn’t work. I guessed correctly that if I could think of it , someone smarter definitely did before me. When I replaced a fan a year or so later, I had issues downloading because of software updates, but the developer quickly responded to my email, that it was a temporary issue with the AppStore, and in a day I was able to get the new version and it worked as well as it did previously. Please support this app. I even offered to repurchase and pay more, but he assured me it wasn’t needed..Version: 2.2
Great Tool !I was having trouble balancing a 60" fan. Tried moving weights around and just couldn't find a good starting point to add weights. This tool will help you find what blades weight needs to be added and you can run the test procedure a second time after adding weights to really get it good. Also just using the wobble check to move the weights back and forth on a blade to find the sweet spot will help you find the perfect spot. Took a little time to get the feel of what it can do and it really lets you measure your progress . My fan really had a heavy spot so it finally took weights on three of the five blades in different places to get it good. One other thing I found it better to switch the camera mode on my phone so I could look down at the screen instead of standing with my phone over my head and looking up at the fan..Version: 2.2
Wow, this app works great!Ceiling fan balancing is usually such a hassle, but with this app it takes much less time and no guesswork. I balanced most of my fans in one try. It really helps to use the front facing camera and have your phone or iPad on a fixed surface looking up at the fan so There is no phone motion and the wobble measurements are more accurate. Having enough light illuminating the center alignment dot also helps measurements. I had one fan that was difficult to balance since a couple blades had a lot of weight differences from the others. The app kept telling me to put 6 grams of weight near the end of two blades but the fan still wobbled. I put a 13 gram washer on double sided tape on those two blades and re-ran the balancing procedure. The app nailed it with weight adjustments to a couple other blades and that fan is now perfectly stable..Version: 2.2
Great AppI was a little skeptical because of some of the negative reviews. This app worked great and my fan has finally stopped wobbling. I have a couple of comments that may help other users. 1) when checking the wobble of each blade keep aiming the camera at the center dot til you get told the reading is good. The program won’t let you go on to subsequent blades until the reading is good so be patient. 2) at the end you are told where to place the balancing clips on each blade. The instructions say to place the clip xxx inches from the center of the fan, but I found it should be xxx inches from the blade tip For these reasons I only rated it a 4, but it is worth a 5 for just the time and effort it saved me..Version: 2.3.1
I was a skeptic, but now a believer.I spent about an hour trying to balance my fan, using a balancing kit following the instructions in the kit. I had it pretty close, but being the perfectionist that I am, I wanted to get it perfect. A little Internet searching pointed me to this app, which I tried. I had doubts that it would allow me to get the balance any better but I went ahead with the instructions in the app, exactly as outlined. I removed the weight that I had originally installed and much to my surprise. The app had me put the weights almost where I originally had them with a few minor additions of weight and slight change to the location. The fan is balanced perfectly now. I’m impressed to say the least..Version: 2.5
Saved the dayAfter struggling to balance a new fan for hours and having trouble figuring out if anything made a difference, this app saved the day. It gives you a wobble score and can recommend where to place weights to reduce wobble. I only had one weight but the recommendation confirmed the position I had been hovering around all day. I ended up using the real-time wobble screen to compare weight positions until I was near zero. And now I have no visible wobble at all! I recommend pointing a light at the fan when using this app. It also seems to have trouble with dark colored blades. My only comments to the developer would be: (a) allow me to go through the balance process with only one clip/weight, (b) consider the distance from center to the start of the blade when giving a weight recommendation; my recommendation had me placing weights on the motor housing, or otherwise where the clip couldn’t fit on the blade, (c) maybe add a mode that logs the weight position and the wobble score so I can look back without having to write down or remember Overall this is well worth the money and I am so relieved!.Version: 2.3.1
This app really worksI spent a good 30 minutes trying to balance a new fan by the usual trial and error method and wasn't making much progress. I downloaded this app and gave it a try. Initially it didn't work because i had someone reading the instructions to me and I numbered the blades in the wrong direction. Once i corrected the numbering, I ran the process again and it suggested 3 weights on one blade and one on another. Once they were on, the fan went from a 55 wobble factor down to a 6. At the very least, the wobble calculation is very helpful. You don't have to guess if the fan is wobbling less or more after moving the weight, the wobble mode in the app gives a good indicator. Half the problem with trying to do it by hand is trying to determine if its better or worse. I gave the app 5 stars but I found the UX to be a little confusing when navigating between the next screens while moving the weights from blade to blade. There is popup modal on the screen while the app is actually recording the wobble. i constantly had to pick Try Again while the fan was coming up to speed..Version: 2.2
Perfect - finally balanced!I don’t know if I’ve ever left a review for an app before, but had to for this. We splurged on a much nicer fan than we’ve ever bought, but after 4+ hours of trying unsuccessfully to balance the lightweight materials (before getting the app) it still wobbled & clicked so couldn’t run above the slowest setting. It’s had the weight clips on it for a month and has been frustrating reminder of a project not yet finished. I found this app, followed the instructions, and within 10 mins the fan was perfectly balanced. We slept all night with the fan on high, no noise, just a wonderful constant breeze. Thank you for making the app and for a good night’s sleep!.Version: 2.2
Ceiling Fan BakancerAmazing app. A little difficult to use but once figured out, easy and accurate. Some things to watch: 1. make sure black dot is 1/2”. Did not work if too large. 2. Proper lighting. Too bright or too dim did not work. Seemed to work better if black dot was flat, not glossy. 3. Camera should be directly under black dot. If angled, calculated distances not optimum. 4. Need to HOLD camera for several readings. App will tell you when complete and if the several readings were sufficiently consistent. RESET did not seem to work. RESET did not reset previous measurements. Worked well with 52” diameter wood blades and 36” metal blades..Version: 2.0
My mechanical engineering degree taught me to find apps like theseI just used this on three different sized ceiling fans and it worked. Not always on the first try, but always by the second iteration. Heck, it’s $0.99! And thus it saved hours of frustrating trial and error using the age old method. Yes first I cleaned the fans (vacuum and wet cloth wipe down) and made sure the screws were tight. A little masking tape and a marker plus a tape measure is all that is needed In Addition to the cheap balancing kit parts (clips and stick on weights). All our wobbles now seem so far away. And it looks as though quiet fans are here to stay..Version: 2.3.1
UnbelievableI had so much doubt that this app would work but shockingly it worked PERFECTLY. You really have to follow the instructions exactly as they say and have patience because the process takes like 10-20 minutes but once it told me where to place the weights exactly the wobble was COMPLETELY gone. The developers should spend some time fixing the English on it though, for example when it tells you where to place the second weight, it says place 2 weights instead of “place weight number 2” which is a bit confusing..Version: 2.3.1
Amazing. Finicky, but worth it!I spent several days trying to get everything to lineup right. Tried making the dot bigger, added more tape, did it when it was dim outside, did it when it was bright… couldn’t get it to work. Finally did it at night, lights off, lamp on. It worked. Gloriously so.I had even tried doing it manually with two clips, bunch of times. Nothing… And this thing just solved it in about two minutes. Amazed. Blade 1,17” and blade 2, 13”. No way I would’ve figured that out, and so I am indebted to this app..Version: 2.1
FANTASTIC APP!I spent hours using the “trial and error” approach. Assuming you always test with the fan at the same speed, there are several variables to figure out: How many blades need weights, which blades are they, how much weight do you need for each blade, and where should the weight be positioned on the blade. This cool app measures the wobble through a brief testing process, then tells which blades need weights and where the weights should be placed on each blade. Som pretty cool math. Thanks for putting this one together, Danny! Using your app I was done in 20 minutes..Version: 2.2
Better than expected!Make sure the dot you create is high contrast. Blue painter's tape didn't work for me, I needed black on white. I spent two hours trying to balance a fan with two warped blades on my own with only modest success. Another 30 minutes using this app resulted in a bit more improvement and a combination of weights I wouldn't have found through the normal trial and error process. I adjusted a bit more from the app's suggestion, but it was a helpful tool. For a warped fan it's doing pretty well now..Version: 2.5
Can’t believe it!You still have to go through the whole balancing process, but with so much less guessing. I finally gave up on guess and check and paid the $1. It took me 10 minutes to label everything and another 10 go through the testing process. The app spit out which blades and what distance to place weight. I put weights on and gave it a go… ZERO WOBBLE. I couldn’t believe it. No way I could have gotten this accurate on my own after any amount of time. 🙌🏼.Version: 2.3.1
Where has this been all my life?I live in a house with 19 ceiling fans, many of them vintage. I’m actually not bad at balancing the “old fashioned” way but THIS is so much better. Follow all the steps and you end up with a result like “place 1 weight on blade 4 17cm from the end and 2 on blade 5 30cm from the end”. And it WORKS. Steady as a rock!! There is no way you could do this the trial and error way. I don’t think there’s any app for anything I have been so grateful for. Thank you, thank you, thank you!.Version: 2.5
Way better than expectedI was a little skeptical of this, but was willing to accept a little wobble if I could improve it enough to not make noise. I went through the process twice and it is absolutely perfect. I ended up putting weights on multiple blades at various lengths. There is no way I would have gotten it that still through trial and error on my own. Saved me hours of work, a mental breakdown, and probably a still kinda wobbly fan..Version: 2.5
Awesome appGetting things set right was challenging at first. I had to enlarge and darken my dot and turn off the light on the fan. I tried a blue marker to start but went to green and it worked. Once it was set up it was a breeze so do t give up. I got great data and went through the process 2 full times. Things I would do differently are using green painting tape to make it easier and applying permanent weights after each round rather than at the end of all rounds. I would have loved having this app so many years ago..Version: 1.1
So Easy Compared to Hit and Miss MethodIt worked great on a fan I tried to balance manually. Giving a 4 because the steps shown while going through the process is a little clunky. It would be nice to have added steps where you stop the fan, add or remove clips, start the fan, then a continue button to test. But no real complaints, it is a sanity saver!.Version: 2.3.1
Now I want to balance all my fans!!This app is the tool I needed to balance my wobbly fan that squeaked. It helped me find which blade needed the weight and where to place it. I like its objective measurement. I started with a wobble score of 30 and ended with 2.5. To my eye, it’s perfectly still at full speed. A few tips, put the camera on a step ladder for consistency. I used small paper binder clips from my office. I numbered the tops of my fan blades with a magic marker..Version: 2.5
Well worth the $0.99This app can be a little confusing to use, but the joy of having a significantly quieter fan ~10 minutes after downloading the app was well worth it. The app recommended 5x 3g weights for a 60” fan and it is a big improvement after installing them. I wish there was a zoom option while using the camera - I wanted to rest my phone on a step stool and record from there but the app needed to be just a bit closer to see the dot..Version: 2.0
Works great! No more fan wobble!Tips: You need two weight clips so you may have to buy 2 balance kits. My kit came with one clip and three weights so I just used 1 clip and temporarily taped a weight on to test out before permanently attaching weights. Put the clip on the very end if the blade instead on the side. The more accurate you make your measurements, the better results you will get. Took about 10 minutes and now I have zero fan wobble..Version: 2.3.1
Tedious but worthwhileI read the poor reviews and purchased anyway and am extremely happy with the results. Instructions are detailed and I needed to follow them precisely. The app DOES work with sloped ceilings - when it says blades should be the same distance from the ceiling and your ceiling is sloped or uneven simply spin each blade to the same spot before measuring distance from ceiling. Buy a balancing kit that includes 3 gram weights not 5 gram for better precision. If the bottom center of the fan spins along with the blades then your “black dot on neutral color painters tape “ must be exactly in the center so it doesn’t move when slowly spinning the fan. Be sure to use the 3gram clips with the 3gram weights or the 5gram clips with the 5gram weights. Do all this and the app works beautifully..Version: 2.5
Great App, Works Great and Fan is Balanced.I downloaded this app after spending hours measuring blades, moving clips here and there, and watching endless videos. I was about to quit and decided to look for an app and found this. Worked great for me and my fan is perfectly balanced. Be sure to following the directions closely, as it will safe you time. In the end, I need 4 clips to get it balanced, which my fan only came with one..Version: 2.3.1
Works amazingly well!Best buck ever spent. Just getting a vibration reading is worth it versus trying to figure out if it’s a little better or worse when you place weights. I spent a couple hours on a wooden 3 blade fan and was getting closer- this hit it in one shot! It does tricky math to determine exact effects and it’s real good. Buy it! I’m going to do it over with careful measurements and see if I can get it perfect now that I trust that it works..Version: 2.3.1
Impressive! This app made rebalancing our wobbly ceiling fan a breeze. You have to do some simple math to match its instructions to the weights in your kit (tip: double the amount of clips you are using to take initial measurements if a single clip doesn’t give you valuable data) but it brought my readings down from about 9.7 Wobble Strength to 0.0 on the first try. Wonderful app and well worth the price..Version: 2.5
Very impressedI was a little skeptical that an app could help, but this app was amazing. It walked me through the process of calibrating each blade and then made suggestions for weight placements. It was exactly right and removed almost 100% of the wobble, as I could verify using the app instead of just eyeing it. Highly recommend! Worth anything you spend..Version: 2.3.1
Works like a charm! This app works exactly as advertised. I had installed a new ceiling fan and was struggling to get it balanced. I followed the steps in the app; moving the weight and pointing the camera at the fan, repeating for each blade. At the end, the app instructed me to put two weights toward the tip of adjacent blades. I was pleased to see that the wobble was almost completely eliminated. I moved the weights inward slightly from the tip and now have a nicely balanced, silent fan!.Version: 1.1
Very ImpressedI didn't have high expectations for this app but for $0.99, I thought I would give it a try. It worked perfectly to balance a large 8-blade fan. I appreciate how simple & well layed out the app & instructions are. I'm not sure I would have gotten this fan balanced without a lot of time & maybe not this well without this app..Version: 2.3.1
Good except for one thingIt reduced wobble, but the app tells me to place weights that are so close to the center of the fan that the weights would have to be on the blade holders themselves which I cannot do. It would be great if I could specify the length of usable blade space where I can actually stick a weight on top of. Otherwise it’s very helpful.Version: 2.5
AmazingI am an unpaid purchaser of this app. I am typically skeptical of apps like this, but after struggling for an hour, I thought losing $3 on the off chance that it works is totally OK with me. I should have bought it at the start of my struggles! It worked great the first time I tried it, even with me fudging on some of the measurement steps!.Version: 2.5
Easy-PeasyI installed a new ceiling fan this afternoon. It’s mounted on a vaulted ceiling and the fan blades only have around an inch of clearance. I should probably get a longer downrod, but the two previous fans were fine. The new fan had the very slightest wobble. Not enough to really notice, but enough that the fan blades were tapping the ceiling. I tried balancing it manually and spent too much time with no better results. Then I read about this app on Reddit. It took around ten minutes using the app and got the exact best place to add weights on two blades. Now the fan is completely wobble free at all speeds. Truly a great tool..Version: 2.5
Very happySuper helpful. It took some trial and error figuring out the app, and the process of testing and adjusting and testing and adjusting is tedious (I have a cheap fan, which probably affected the accuracy some), but three hours later I am so happy to have a wobble-free fan instead of a “will this shake the fan from the ceiling” fan!.Version: 2.5
I am impressedI have tried to balance many fans. This program is very easy to use, and once you balance your fan, you will be impressed too. First time using, I spent about 20 minutes and this $$$ fan purrs like a kitten…that was not the case when I first installed it. Thank you.Version: 2.2
MagicalMy son’s fan was a wobbly mess. I bought a weight kit but it seemed like it was going to take forever with trial and error so I bought this app. I was skeptical despite the positive reviews but it worked like a dream. Followed the simple instructions and boom wobble fixed. This developer needs to be building rockets or something..Version: 2.5
Works for meThe app worked fine and helped me fine tune the balance. Following the instructions is important. Initially my dot was too big and my blue blade markings were outside of the desired area. After adjusting both I could capture repeatable wobble readings until I went from a 60 to a 4. At the lower levels, camera movement becomes critical..Version: 1.1
Simply AmazingThis app is awesome. If you follow the instructions, it will tell you precisely how to perfectly balance your fan. I had to run it twice because the adjustment took more than a single 3 gram weight on two blades. After these two adjustments, my fan is completely stable at all speeds..Version: 2.4
Worked great for me!I followed the instructions, and bingo! Almost perfectly still on High! This ceiling fan was driving us nuts with its crazy wobble and clacking sound. I was having a frustrating time balancing it by trial and error. I knew that someone had to have thought of this already. Searched the App Store, and there it was. Thanks.Version: 2.0
Time SaverNew ceiling fan had a shimmy-shake thing going on after install. Before breaking out the food scale, disassembling the blades and measuring each one, thought I’d try this optical balancing app out. It worked perfectly! Went from 20.7 units out of balance to zero/one (barely visible wobble). Aces!.Version: 2.5
Gets you in the ballparkMy fan's wobble was reduced somewhat but definitely not eliminated. I really wish it provided follow-up adjustment recommendations to get you all the way to perfectly balanced (rather than telling you to start over). As it is I was able to achieve similar results just by putting a marker on a blade and using a slow-mo video to guess where the imbalance was based on how it wobbled..Version: 2.4
Best way to balance fan!Don’t waste your time balancing your fan by eyeballing. This app takes out all of the guess work and tells you exactly where to place your weights. It’s like magic! If you’re balancing your fan, spend a buck and get this app, you won’t regret it. A+++++.Version: 2.2
It works! After trying for an hour to balance my very wobbly fan via trial & error, I decided to see if there was an app that would help. After 3 passes of placing weights with the app I was close and was then able to do a much more informed trial an error to get the wobble practically gone at the top speed..Version: 2.0
Reddit ReviewI was directed here from Reddit and had low faith. Just installed a new 5 blade fan from Home Depot that clicked against the wire housing on our slanted ceiling and was driving me insane. The set up is a bit of leg work, but WELL worth it. 15 minutes later and this fan is spinning like a dream. Great app!.Version: 2.3.1
Make sure your final weights are equivalent to your clip weight. What a time saver.Recommendation: 1. Optional clip/test weight and final weight inputs. I used clothespins, quarters, and tape. While quarters and clothespins both weigh 6g on my kitchen scale. The clothespins are slightly heavier. This didn’t effect my desired outcome of minimizing noise. It is visually off..Version: 2.3.1
Workout perfectly - needs patienceI bought 3 balancing kits. Needed them all. After running the first dynamic balancing the wobble was not solved. After another test and more weight added. I had to run the app three times before the fan was perfectly balanced..Version: 1.1
Works as advertised.I need to get another set of weights as I only had two, but, I got rid of even a hint of wobble all the way up to full speed with my test set. Worth the cost. Follow the instructions exactly and don’t screw around and it works..Version: 2.5
Works as AdvertisedI was somewhat skeptical that it would work, but it was only CAD$3.99, so why not? It worked perfectly. I placed the weights exactly where the program said, and the wobble disappeared completely. However, I did need 2 clips for testing, so I ordered a set from Amazon..Version: 2.5
Worked for meNew fab was a little out of balance. Used wheel weights, followed the app. Now perfect no wobble..Version: 2.5
