What happenedGoogle has been the word that changed social media as well as the internet almost as soon as Google hit the internet. We no longer just "browsed" the internet or "searched", we now "googled" and soon just about everyone knew exactly what we were talking about. To google became the very personification of searching for info on the internet. Not sure what happened but I just deleted google as it has gone wonky. Overall solid app but few annoying things...Google is my go-to app throughout the day to quickly look up and research stuff. BUT two things are annoying.... for one, Google seems to remove re-add functions like the translate drawer at the bottom which is really helpful but recently disappeared for a long time before it got added back in — WHY?? The more annoying thing is that every time I leave the app to check something else in my phone sands come back, it reloads the feed! And I have background refresh disabled! Often I'm still seeing articles I want to read but have to go to another app in between and when I come back, they're gone and feed is refreshed. STUPID!!!! AkstylesThe only search engine I trust and has been my go to since the conception of the term. I’m really loving the personalized news feeds. As someone who intentionally avoids today’s unreliable news sources, especially from social media apps, the google news feed has been a welcome addition to my routine. I no longer have to miss out on reading articles I may be interested in because of my choice to not login to FB. Instead I often find articles I’m interested in through my google feed in between searching for things. Google Search is one of my top 5 most used apps. Google the go to.For years, I have been using Google products in various ways and forms. It is the dominant search engine and provides a simple and accessible experience that other search engines fail to deliver. In my opinion, Google Maps is also the best, as it allows users to see and comment about the places they visit. It also keeps track of threats to the route of destination easily. BOOOO!! Completely useless.I have an iPhone so I only got the app for the picture and music aspect and it has worked zero times. I tried humming the songs didn’t work and I kept trying but it still wouldn’t. I even sung a song I KNEW to see if I was just getting some notes wrong or something and it STILL didn’t work. Losing pages.If I’m on a page and I have to either step away so my phone goes to sleep or switch screens, it resets to the homepage search bar. Not all the time, but enough that it’s incredibly irritating. I’ll have to scroll all the way back down to where I was (I love reading comments on articles, so sometimes it’s a lot of scrolling) to continue reading. This has only become a problem in the last few updates, I believe since the overall look has changed. Sometimes the page I was on will be completely gone from the history as well, saying I have no browsing history when I clearly do, as I was JUST reading something. Then I have to remember what I searched and the title of the article. Apps are supposed to be streamlined, quick & beneficial. I might as well read on a computer. I’m disappointedI know people may not have a problem with this but my google is being annoying right now. So usually when I would search up images, it would show some other images once I click on it. Then I have the option to save and that. Now every single time I click on a picture, it sends me to the website on where it’s from. I don’t want the website, I just wanna see the picture and save it on my camera roll. Now it’s annoying how long it takes me save an image. I’m always seeing the website with its picture. Good as Expected but...This app basically does exactly what you’d think a Google app would do. For that reason, it’s a fine app. I deleted this app though because I didn’t see the advantage of keeping it when I could just use a mobile browser to search on Google. I wouldn’t even think twice about downloading this app again if it incorporated just 1 specific thing... the first is that I wish this app had a reverse image search feature similar to Pinterest’s. Google already has a reverse image search option for non-mobile users (PC, Mac, etc.) in the browser, but the Google app doesn’t have this function for mobile use. Google window on the bottom of screenI like using this app, however, I really dislike the google window at the bottom of the page. It’s in the way when I need to make a selection at the bottom of the screen. I know how to make it smaller so I can make a selection. It’s just to much work just to see the bottom of the screen. Most times I just give up and click open page in Safari so I don’t have deal with it. Its also slightly annoying because it never goes away and I don’t see an option to close it. The only time it goes away is when I scroll up which does me no good if I want to look at the very bottom of the page. Almost got a virus! (Think I actually have)So I thought that this Kahoot bot website was really funny so I clicked the link… yeah, bad mistake. It started to give me pop up ads that were really unnecessary and some of them were not even related with the topic. It told me I needed a vpn for the website. Special Friend93 y/o Mom needed 24/7 care after breaking a hip, and Home Instead stepped up to the challenge. They sent reliable, nice, trustworthy people that knew how to care for someone in her position. They worked with us to whittle down the staff as she needed less help. We ended up with the nicest most caring person, Fannie. She has become part of the family and been so good to our mom. Lift missed ride on May 20, 2024I called Lift on the above date with pick up point on La Mamarcada Bakery on Santa Monica Bl. Corner western Ave.. waited fo r the ride which never came. Street vendors selling fruit who were witnesses noticed that my pick up point changed to 1198 western Ave. at that point I changed to again the bakery address at the corner of Sta Monica Bl and western where the lift ride appeared. The Interface is Getting ClutteredIt was nice having the streamlined layout of the app several versions before, and with every update version, the interface loads up with more buttons of questionable interest, and an excess of information that would be best left hidden or condensed. The tab feature is also getting cluttered with excessive numbers of saved pages after simple searches. I do not need a new window every time I want to view a new image, I just want to browse in peace. This is a petty and personal issue that doesn’t impede the app’s usefulness, so I will leave this with a decent rating, but I would greatly appreciate it if options for less screen filler were available in future updates. Has been my favorite app but has been crashing for weeks nowThis app has been my favorite iPhone app but a recent update led to constant consistent crashing issues. Any time I try to use it it crashes. This began to occur after an update. I have looked ever day for an update assuming the developers would want to repair a problem that leads to complete inability to use app, but nothing. I have begun to look into other search apps as the lack of any response is concerning. Once critical app now unstable under iOS12I have used this app since its early days, a majority of my experience was excellent: on an iPad Pro, it was a godsend in split-screen mode when I needed to pull content from several sources into my primary apps by dragging or pasting. Once iOS updated to its current release, this is the least stable and highest-lag of Google’s iOS offerings (several of which also suffer under iOS12). I didn’t understand when the ‘tools’ option was suddenly deactivated on image searches, but tolerated it because the app overall was still strong. Now, I use this app only when I can afford to have it freeze or crash. Scrolling through saved item collections is impossibly laggy, with several seconds elapsing between a touch or drag and the app responding — when it does scroll, it stutters and freezes. I have a top-tier current-gen iPad Pro with 70% of internal storage available, and would hope Google values stability and performance over feature-adds that aren’t ready for public release. SocraticI have used the Socratic app for four years to help with schoolwork. It’s straightforward to use and answers questions within seconds of taking a photo. Today, while working on homework, I went into Socratic. The app told me they had moved to Google, I didn’t think much and downloaded the app. Trying to find where Socratic went in the Google app, I realized it is now “Google Lens.” I started to use Google Lens, and I truly hated the experience. It doesn’t give you a straight answer like Socratic did. You have to go to each website to look for the answer. Socratic will show you the answer with the website attached. The process for taking a timed homework assignment has been extended due to this change. Socratic was perfect and did everything most college or even high school students need. Fast answers with the website attached was perfect. If they had to search for the answer on the websites, all Google Lens does is write the question in the search bar. Now I had to delete Socratic (rip) and delete Google to download chat GPT. Gemini advancedFor the first half of the year 2024, it gave information that favored one political party. After repeatedly asking it for just the facts and not an opinion, it would simply apologize and then give the facts. For the last half of the year now, it will not give any political information whatsoever. If you ask any information about any political party or individual, or even the date of the US election, it will simply say: "I can't help with responses on elections and political figures right now. I'm trained to be as accurate as possible, but I can make mistakes sometimes. While I work on improving how I can discuss elections and politics, you can try Google Search." It’s quite obvious they were getting backlash because the system was programmed to not just promote the Republican Party, but to show favoritism towards Trump. Disappointing Image Scanning and Redundant FeaturesI recently tried out the Google app and found it to be quite underwhelming, particularly in terms of its image scanning functionality. Song hum featureEvery time I say “what’s this song” into the microphone it takes me to a google search of instructions on how to use the feature instead of actually performing the feature itself. I also can’t find the “song search” button after exploring the whole app, despite the unwarranted google search telling me there is a button. Going to have to rate a 1 star and uninstall the app for faulty software and false advertising. Unfortunate considering this is a cool idea but it seems to have been executed very poorly. IPhone Frozen by ScamFor the second time in the past few months using google , I encountered a scam. I opened an article and the only thing I saw was a message telling me I had a virus and I should hit Okay. My phone was frozen. I couldn’t close it or go back. I deleted the app as it was the only way to regain control. I’ve also had experiences where the headline in the newsfeed did not match the article once opened. InconvenientIt used to be good, but now, from what I'm assuming was an update, made it into an overall inconvenience. The websites you want to open do not open into a full screen. At the top of these web pages is a pull down button—like on an iPhone that drops down notifications and reminders—and it completely takes away the main back button that used to be an arrow. Because of this, whenever there are pop-up ads on a webpage, you simply can’t just go back to the webpage itself, but have to completely exit it altogether. Another thing is that Google will constantly refresh itself when you leave. This is fine when you leave the app for a long amount of time but if you have a webpage open and close it for a few seconds or a minute, then it will completely refresh and you will loose whatever it was you were doing. One thing that annoys me …I receive notifications through many channels some I follow down their rabbit hole others I delete. I followed one this morning about iOS options and how to keep or turn them off. Bug: New articles not opening in new tabWhen I open the app and see several articles on the Home Screen, if I try to open 2-3 of them, they start to open on top of each other in the same tab. This wasn’t the issue few releases back. With the latest release, I had 11 tabs before the installation of latest version, and not I have 2. Rest of them mysteriously disappeared. Seems like with each new release, a perfectly ok working app is getting worse n worse. I truly believe new version releases are not required all the time just to keep an app going, especially if they are going to introduce bugs and other issues for the users. It's getting worse tbhI have used this app for a while instead of safari because I just trust google more. But recently its been hiccuping and I can't stand it. One thing is that it won't let me change my picture. I don't know why and I want it changed because its an old picture of me. I will click on the icon and I will tap the camera on the profile picture and it will say "you can't change this profile picture from this account" but the problem is I have before. Also I've had this song stuck in my head so I tried to use the "find song" feature on the app and when I tap on it the dots will show up for a few seconds, like its trying to find the song, then it will go back to the home page. I’m switching to safari because of the June updatesBefore this month the app was fairly good for a search app but now it’s useless. At first it was hacking trouble just saving what tabs I wanted open and would delete whatever tab I just opened once I left the tab. This applies to both new tabs where I wanted to compare results and tabs I had open for a few days that I went back to frequently. Then it made the layout of websites go into a weird zoomed out format that made it so you could accidentally swipe out mid read. Lastly the reason I’ve given up is because you can no longer save images. When you hold down an image now it just shows “image source” and “search within image” neither of which I would ever use. There used to be a simple way, but they updated that out. It’s no longer there. Issues with tabsI’ve been using this app for years as my primary search engine. I even recently noticed a feature where you can save recipes to “cookbook”, which is nice. The feature I use the most, however, has been an increasing source of frustration: tabs. I keep tabs open so I can return to them at a later date. The delete tabs setting is on ‘never’ so that my tabs never disappear. Yet today, when I opened the app, all of my tabs were gone. And there’s no easy way to restore them. I’d have to comb through my search history and go off of memory. I’m ready to discard this app in favor of the chrome app, since it turns out restoring tabs is pretty simple for that one. Some Major Problems with the 3-DThere’s a huge problem that I’m having with the 3-D Bengal Cat. The problem is when I attempt to videotape it in 3-D, I will try to move the animal around as I’m taking the video. It shows that it works, as the red line is moving around the circle, however the video does not actually take. I have seen a couple times at the top of my screen “Touch to return to Snapchat” or “Hangouts” but even after I have closed these apps it still fails to work and says the same thing. Afterwards when I try to take a video without moving the animal, it doesn’t take either! I have to close and open the app again, or exit out of 3-D in order to get a working video. They took away the connectivity to Apple Maps. Why? This was one of the main features I used the app for.
