Visit www.gypsyguide.com for route maps, sample commentary, and tips & advice.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

It's so simple! All you have to do is start driving towards wherever you want to go. The commentary will play automatically. This includes all the instructions you need for places where you have to make important turns or decisions about which route to take. Once you have launched “Start Driving,” the commentary will play automatically as you pass through the activation points. The narration seamlessly transitions from each area and park to the next.

As you tour, you're going to see giant, classic Rocky Mountains with their sheer faces and distinctive ridging. There are many opportunities to see glaciers, especially around Lake Louise and along the Icefields Parkway.

Always watch for wildlife, frequently seen enjoying grassy meadows. Grizzly bears and black bears aren't always guaranteed, but the tour will give you tips about places where your chances are better.

There are many gorgeous lakes with colors too good to be true. Don't miss Lake Louise, Moraine Lake, Emerald Lake, and Peyto Lake, which is at Bow Summit on the Icefields Parkway. And if you love waterfalls, the Rockies have many—each one demonstrating amazing power.

The tour is filled with entertaining stories about characters from the region, the forces of nature, and other tales that will give you a personal connection to this incredible location.

WHAT YOU’LL SEE:
Commentary will play automatically as you pass from one area to the next through Banff, Yoho, and Jasper National Parks.

• Icefields Parkway – Voted the World's Most Beautiful Mountain Drive
• Lake Louise & Moraine Lake – Famously beautiful lakes with mountains and glaciers
• Yoho National Park – Spiral Tunnels, Emerald Lake, Takakkaw Falls
• Jasper National Park – Maligne Lake and Canyon, Miette Hot Springs, Pyramid Lake
• Banff townsite and area – Banff Gondola, Bow Falls, Lake Minnewanka
• Bow Valley Parkway – Johnston Canyon
• And many more scenic lookouts and photo opportunities

CHARGING:
++ Continued use of GPS/location services in the background increases battery usage. We strongly recommend using a cigarette-style (DC outlet) car charger to keep your phone charged, and avoid charging through the USB port.

AUDIO:
Listen directly from your phone or connect to the car stereo via Bluetooth. Avoid using a direct USB connection in rental vehicles, as this can cause audio issues. The audio can play through your car’s Apple CarPlay and Android Auto display; however, the map will display only on your phone.

iPADS:
iPad models must include a GPS chip. Please note: only the iPad Wi-Fi + Cellular models contain a GPS chip. Wi-Fi-only iPad models have limited location capabilities and are unable to play commentary automatically.

DOWNLOADING:
The apps are larger in size to function offline. You must download the app ahead of time using Wi-Fi (recommended) or cellular data. Once downloaded, you can tour offline without cell service.

Canadian Rockies GyPSy Guide App Comments & Reviews

Canadian Rockies GyPSy Guide Positive Reviews

Friend recommended last minute. So thankful they did!I had no idea about this app and was getting ready to go to Banff, Lake Louise, Icefields, etc when a friend told my wife about this app and how helpful it was. I’m so glad I spent the $20 and got this. The narration was spot on and I learned so much about the area I would’ve never known otherwise. We ended up stopping at places we never would have without this app and I can honestly say there was only one stop that was so-so which was the spiral tunnels. Really not much to see here but it’s at a pull out so not much time wasted. The rest of the suggestions were fantastic. My wife was upset because she wanted to see more wildlife and all we had seen were birds, squirrels and rabbits. This app was talking about the left hand side of the mountain coming up as we were headed south from the Icefields and how it is a great spot to see mountain goats and sheep horn. So we pulled over at the turnout and sure enough we both immediately spotted a mountain goat. Highly recommend!.Version: 2.8.2

This app is an absolute “must do”If you are driving in the Canadian Rockies I “highly, highly recommend that you do not miss” this app (to use a GyPSy-ism). Our family just got back from 9 days in Banff, Jasper, and Yoho — sadly we only found out about this app from another visitor on day 2. But it’s an understatement to say that GyPSy radically altered and improved our trip. First, some nits in the interest of transparency: the spoken-word volume is a bit low relative to Apple Music. The app brings you to a “getting started” screen every time you load it fresh, and the map re-centers so it’s hard to have a passenger pan around for a route preview during driving. None of that matters. For the first time on a road trip we didn’t listen to music, or podcasts, or audiobooks - we were too eager not to miss any of “Professor Yoho” (as we named him)’s guidance! The script was funny, interesting, and accessible even to our 8 year old, and the narrator was fantastic. For the most part we didn’t even use GPS, as we found that just following his instructions made for a more spontaneous and surprising trip. We actually ended up changing our hotels and itinerary to more closely map to the GyPSy route - and we had a blast. Given how expensive everything in the parks is $20 for the bundle is an absolute bargain— we have even discussed aligning our future road trips to be “GyPSy-compatible” with their other offerings. I could not recommend this app more highly..Version: 2.8.2

The best way to tour the Canadian Rockies!!I discovered this app a few days before leaving on my trip to Banff/Jasper/Lake Louise, and I am SOOO glad we tried it!! This is EXACTLY what I had been looking for to help us make the most of our trip. We love the freedom of driving around on our own time, at our own pace. GyPSy guide is perfect for pointing out key sites, prioritizing our activities, and learning about the area, historical background, and traveler tips. Informative, entertaining, and spot-on with directions/recommendations (so precise that I was able to turn off my Google maps and just follow “Uncle GyPSy”!). If you’ve ever driven through a new area and thought things like, “What’s that mountain I’m looking at?”, GyPSy guide is for you! I only wish there were more guides available (Iceland, major US cities)....Version: 3.0.1

Superb app, a must haveWe used this app on our 7 night tour of Banff, Lake Louise, and Jasper. It worked incredibly well and kept our entire family engaged, including 5 and 8 year old boys. The information appealed to people of all ages, and the narrator did a great job. The way the app was triggered by our GPS location was spot on. At one point the guide said we may see some wildlife up ahead, and literally seconds later the kids spotted some sheep. There was so much interesting information on the history, geology, and animals. I was pleasantly surprised that it provided turning directions that complemented our car’s GPS. We looked forwarding to using the app every time we got in the car. Felt like the guide was with us everyday. Actually kind of miss him now!.Version: 2.8.2

Honeymoon in the RockiesThis tour was absolutely wonderful. We were able to see so many hidden sites that we would have missed without this tour. We named the speaker in the tour “George” and felt as though we had a friend with us the entire time sharing secrets about the best places to visit and best times so that you had the best experience as possible. The stories along the drive were very interesting and we were able to learn so much about the history of the Rockies. We will be sure to continue to use the other versions of this tour for other vacations in the future!!.Version: 2.8.1

Great Content, Functionality Needs WorkThis a great app. I think it’s a must if you are traveling to the Canadian Rockies. The content is very interesting and made our drives from place to place fun. I gave it four out of five stars because it could use some functionality improvements. First, every time you open the app, you have to go through the same start up screens and tutorials, which can get annoying. Second, I wish you could click on the little arrows and see what attractions were coming up. Finally, the app constantly recenters you on the map (which is good) but you don’t have the ability to see what’s coming up on your route. Overall a great app. Worth the price..Version: 2.8.2

Fantastic narrated guide to Canadian RockiesThis narrated guide to the Canadian Rockies is fantastic. It took our trip to Jasper and Banff to a whole other level that we would have never experienced otherwise. We loved it! It is extremely well researched and scripted and synced to the drive. The narrator is excellent. The information provided is very interesting and educational and helpful. We had a few times when we were wondering about certain things on the drive when the narration started up and answered our questions. At one point, the narrator said, “By this time you’ve probably seen bighorn sheep“ and right at that moment three big horn sheep were standing by the side of the road waiting to cross the road. It was unbelievable timing. I highly recommend this guide. You’ll love it too!.Version: 2.8.2

Very good appsWe had Gypsy app for Maui Road to Hana before. It was ok experience. However, we decided to try the app for Banff and jasper national parks. This was much better than the other one. Really enjoy it. We did not give five as the volume was lower. We had to mute the XM radio when the app was silent as the radio was too laud. Our cell phone was set at max. We try to play itune during the silent and unfortunately itune was also too laud. Hopefully, the app can be improved at this aspect. Otherwise,we felt it was very good app for us while driving through those national parks..Version: 2.8.1

California to Canada / 40th anniversary / two non hikersWe flew to Calgary and drove to Banff, Lake Louise and Jasper (all Fairmont properties). The concierge suggested we download this APP, best thing we did the whole week. We saw amazing wildlife, grizzlies, black bears, deer, elk, sheep, goats, marmots and moose. The app guided us through the Icefields Parkway and the Bow Valley Parkway and around Jasper and Banff. I would highly recommend this guide service. It’s informative and lively and full of facts about the area. He even says something funny every now and then..Version: 2.8.1

Worth every penny! This was so interesting and informational. My mom and I rented a car and drove up from Calgary to Jasper. This app was like our own private tour guide that we controlled when we got into the car and could personalize based on our daily itinerary. We used the Bluetooth on my iPhone to play on the car speakers. Great way to tour the Canadian Rockies without spending a ton on private tours..Version: 2.8.2

Fantastic guideI can’t rave about this app enough. At first the $20 price tag seemed a bit steep but it was absolutely worth it! I was directed to so many great places, on and off the beaten path, without the need to look at a map! And I got to use my own car instead of joining a group tour which is priceless (and much, much cheaper!) Hope to use some of the other programs soon!!.Version: 2.8.1

Worth every penny and moreThis app is really informative and we ended up making stops at fantastic places we would have missed if not recommended by the guide. Even our 6yr old while playing iPad was taking in information and then telling family members about it later! It is definitely worth the money..Version: 2.8.2

Fun in the RockiesWe loved this tour! We saw so many things and places we would have not seen if it had not been for the app. The stories were interesting and some quite funny. It seemed every time he would tell us to look out for wild life we would see it. Kinda crazy how that worked. Looking forward to using this app on other trips..Version: 2.8.1

What a great find!Ann and I were in the Banff village following a great time at the "stampede" and ran onto the advertisement for GYpsy Guide. It made our visit to the Canadian Rockies. We played it over the radio while traveling - like having a great tour guide in the vehicle. We couldn't be happier with the quality and use of today's technology - are recommending it to all our friends. Mike.Version: 2.8.1

Fantastic !!This app was both informative and entertaining. It by far contributed to a wonderful drive with insight into incredible viewpoints and trails along the way. I highly recommend this app to anyone driving through the Canadian Rockies! Add this to your list of must buys if you’re vacationing in the Canadian Rockies and renting a car to explore..Version: 2.8.2

Amazing! This was a for sure game changer for our vacation to Alberta. The information and history was incomparable to any tour guide out there. So nice and comforting to have a fun and informative tour guide. Especially having no service in most of the areas. Thanks so much and please travel the world and create more. Perfect!.Version: 3.0.1

Best tour app!We affectionately called our tour guide “Canada Bob!” This app knew what questions we were going to ask before we uttered the words ourselves! Such great information and tips! Great that you don’t have to be using data. We really loved it and will definitely be using GyPSy guide again! Thank you!.Version: 2.8.1

Great navigation! This has been a wonderful companion to our trip. Great narration as we drive, we’ve been learning all the things you aren’t going to get on any of the expensive tours. When you’ve spent the money on getting here, another $20 is well worth it!.Version: 2.8.1

Soul ChargingGame changer. This made an absolutely perfect trip even better. Louie (The name we gave our guide) helped navigate us through national parks from Banff to Jasper. You need this app in your life!!! We even treated up when he said his last goodbyes at the end of our trip!! Thanks Louie!!.Version: 3.0.1

Best $20 I ever spentI rarely take the time to do online reviews, but am doing so because this app was so fantastic. As we toured the entire area covered by the app, we never once turned on the radio because we enjoyed listening to the history/geology/ recs. Well done.Version: 2.8.2

Don’t go without this programDon’t drive the ice field parkway without this guide. It added enormously to our knowledge of what we were seeing and understanding of the history. It made the trip very special. We listened to it going both north and south..Version: 3.0.1

DorisBest app ever for national Parks System. Feels like tour guide sitting in car with you.Version: 2.8.1

Excellent and informativeWell worth the money! Everyone in the car ages 19-82 found the narrative informative and entertaining. We nicknamed the guide Fred and missed him when we didn’t have him on. Highly recommend this download..Version: 3.0.1

Needs Major UpdatingThe narration shared some interesting history, but the presentation used some outdated terminology regarding cultures, which was a bit jarring at times (it was very whitewashed 😬) It would benefit from incorporating a broader range of perspectives, updating content to reflect recent major events like the Jasper fire, and including more than just the most popular stops along the route. The only sort of “out of the way” stop it included was Beauty Creek, but we’d drive by stops with signage and there was absolutely no mention of it. Compared to ShakaGuide in Hawaii, for example, it was a lot less comprehensive. With some major updates it could be really awesome. As such, we did enjoy it, but it felt pretty dated as well..Version: 3.7.2

Canmore to Jasper and back to CalgaryAbsolutely loved it! Not a dry way of telling the stories, even had few jokes . Great way to explore the history of the area once you are driving mostly..Version: 3.0.1

Banff to JasperExcellent guide! Well worth the cost, it helped make the most of our drive through Banff and Jasper national parks..Version: 3.0.1

Wonderful experienceWe downloaded the Canadian Rockies and Kamloops to Banff tours as we explored the Parks on our honeymoon, and were really impressed with the commentary. It really enhanced our visit. Thanks Gypsy Guide! We recommended you folks everywhere we went!.Version: 3.0.1

Sumply the best! The next best thing since sliced bread! Yes that’s how amazing this app is! We learned so much - things we never would have known! Loved listening to the history and geological lessons. The commentary was just enough! We had such good discussions and could teach our kids to be curious and ask questions. Amazing- WILL NEVER TRAVEL WITHOUT OUR GYPSY GUIDE AGAIN!.Version: 3.0.1

Amazing & Highly RecommendHonestly thank you for making such a great app and your material. My wife and I traveled from Calgary to Jasper and back and the drive was full of great information about important landmarks, wildlife, recommended activities, etc. It was like having our own personal tour guide in the car with us and all of the recommendations were bang on.
